Just look at the airline industry. People put the lowest baseline price above all other factors, in turn airlines created incredibly shitty low baseline fares with tons of add on fees so that by the time a person gets to a comfortable flight with a checked bag they are spending more as much if not more as before the existence of super cheap fares from the spirtis or fronteirs of the world. Yes some people benefit from those fares existing but the overall experience of airline passenger is going down not up as people increasingly have to pay for things that just used to be included
|9 hours 31 min ago||The whole point is that espn||
The whole point is that espn can't function at $10/month because even if every single person who has ever watched espn pays 10$ month (they wouldn't) they'd still have to file for bankruptcy. The same thing goes for FX, HGTV, CW, etc. Those channels can't function the way they currently exist based off just their audiences paying $10 per month.
That's the whole point, in an unbundled world you don't get to pay $10 for espn and $20 for netflix. Netflix has the money to create new shows because they get tons of money from people to subscribe to also watch other networks. How much are people willing to pay for netflix when its literally just netflix content on there and nothing else? Because that is what it would be. There are hundreds of articles about how undbundling is bad for consumers. Every pro unbundling argument uses current prices for things like hulu and netflix to creata a utopia situation and that just isn't how this would work. And that doesn't even take into account the reality that intenet providers are the same as cable providers so the costs of everyone's internet will be going up even as everyone needs increased bandwith to stream. So congrats on getting to pay $80 month for internet, $20 a month for espn, $20 month for hbo and $20 month for fox and be paying the same amount for 5 channels and internet as you do now for cable. What a win for consumers.
|10 hours 23 min ago||I disagree with your||
I disagree with your assesment of unbundling. its bad for consumers. Are people really better off paying $90 a month for 7 channels than $110 for 100 channels? Because that is where unbundling leads. Not to mention the death of a lot of networks or good tv. We are in a golden age of tv right now because networks can put a lot of money into putting together good tv. If the only way to remain viable is to charge $10 or less a month then you can't pay for the good tv anymore.
And the biggest mistake everyone makes when discussing it is believing things like Netflix will still only cost $10 a month. When every individual channel needs to protects its paying customers netflix will either be cut off from network shows (and this is part of why they are trying to create their own) or it will be much more expensive, sort of like a cable package if you want to get many things in one place.

I've seen a few places with DJ wilson creeping up draft boards. If he has good workouts I think he is gone.

To allow Hopkins to kill off a minute of a man up advanage by literally letting them stand there is inexcusable. He should be fired before getting back to Ann Arbor, horrendous coaching.

Yeah I get all that, and like I said it is shaping up to be a solid class. My post may have felt a little more panic monkey about it than I feel but while guys move up and down I don't think there is all that much movement in the truly elite guys. Rashan Gary and Peppers were both top 5 for multiple years in recruiting rankings. DPJ was never out of the top 20, neither was najee harris. There aren't that that many example of the guys in the top 10-15 dropping massive amounts or guys ranked 100+ getting from there to the top 15 and that is the range I wish we were more active in this cycle. Those are the guys that took good 10-2 teams to undefeated national championship teams.
If we were starting noah furbush instead of Peppers last year our team would have still been good, I doubt we have the #1 defense in the country and if he plays in the orange bowl we probably win. Its things like that that matter when you start playing for championships instead of 10 win seasons.

Looks like a solid class overall but its a little dissapointing to see the staff in on so few truly elite level kids. To be willing to offer a scholarship in a small class to a 3 star guy at cb mostly so you can get his 4 star twin isn't an ideal world. Especially with the way OSU, and hell even PSU have gotten off to in this class. Know its tough to be truly elite every year but when your primary competition is there isn't a ton of choice.
Also I really wish we could get amon-ra st. brown because obviously.

Its also important to not Speigh got to have Gary and Winovich rushing him. Without the d line depth from last year comparing the two isn't all that helpful either
|1 week 2 days ago||You're probably less likely||
You're probably less likely to win a national championship with Speight but more likely to lose 4 games with Peters. There is a reason Saban has been so comfortable with game manager QB's. If you have an elite defense you want the QB option that provides the most stable performance, not necessarily the one with the most upside.
So in reality I think it depends on how the defense matures. If we are going to beat OSU or Psu 24-14 I'd rather have Speight. If the defense looks like it might be at risk at give up 30+ points to those elite offense you might as well go boom or bust with Peters.

Happy to be wrong but not a lot of confidence in this one. All signs and insider info seems to make it look its UCLA and has been for a little while.

Outside of multiple falls from both bama and Nebraska is there a score Michigan can put up to get themselves in?

Going to have to do better than third in the big ten by the end of year for that to happen.
|1 week 6 days ago||I'll certainly admit to being||
I'll certainly admit to being exhaustively pedantic but don't think I'm wrong about Jordan Morgan. There are many reasons to love the man and all he did for Michigan basketball, but if your goal is to put together the best possible basketball team with players under John Beilein Morgan doesn't belong as anything more than a glue guy veteran on the bench.
And I have nothing against undersized beneath the rim centers, I grew up watching MD basketball win a national championship with a 6'8 Lonny Baxter as their starting center. Baxter just also average 8 rebounds and 2 blocks a game the year they won the championship in addition to adding 15 points a game. Morgan in 2014 averaged 5 rebounds and less than half a block a game while chipping in 6.4 points a game. He can be a smart and heady player, tough to win a championship with that as your starting center.
|1 week 6 days ago||He started over McGary||
He started over McGary because McGary was a true freshman learning the system and people forget was actually injured before the season too. The second McGary could actually function in the system he got the start because he was the clearly superior player.
edit to say I thought you were putting together a single team, comprised of players on the bench and starting players and had mcgary on the bench with morgan starting on your dream team so my objection isn't really valid but your post is also confusing.

I sweat if you are putting jordan morgan as the starting center over Mitch this list is invalid.
You'd be putting a guy that lost his starting spot in over the person he lost his starting spot to, and the Kentucky elite eight game showed why a team with Jordan Morgan as its starting center is unlikely to win a national championshi, because when he went up against elite rebounders he lost badly.

Pretty much all the articles on the players tribune are ghost written based off interviews. None of these guys are actually sitting down and writing these articles themselves.

Attitudes like this are why legitimate cases of sexual assault go on unreported. You don't have to assume anything about Lewis, but if your first reaction is to attack her you should rethink your belief system a little bit.

They literally have an open guy on the crease every offensive posession. Its 10-3 but its just embarrasing how easily they have outclassed us. We still look like a club team trying to keep up with a d1 school. The athletes aren't there, the skill isn't there, and the coaching isn't there.

I know the record is good this year but every time I watch Michigan lacrosse they just seem to lack basic fundamentals of lacrosse and can't run an offense for shit
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Its not a dilemma. There is||
Its not a dilemma. There is no such thing as earning the right to retire on your own terms. Being a great coach buys you a few extra years before getting fired, but once a coach being around is harming the program they need to go, doesn't matter what they did in the past. You don't get paid millions of dollars to lead a high profile sport out of nostalgia.
|3 weeks 7 hours ago||I wouldn't count on that.||
I wouldn't count on that. This year is the first year they will supposedly be paying people out since it was enacted in 2007 and there are already reports of the department of education screwing people by saying stuff doesn't count. I technically qualify but I don't want to incur that extra interest so I still pay on a plan to pay off in 10 years. Just isn't worth the risk of counting on that program to still exist and not be something that gets cut.
