Holy shit strawman, by arguing that msu is overrated nobody is saying that michigan is actually good or going to beat them. Saying I think msu is probably like the 20th best team in the country still makes them way better than michigan and also overrated, both can be true at the same time.

Its more like last 2 years plus a game, not like this was an isolated incident here.

People keep saying it but yet it hasn't happened. Sumlin wears a stitt happens t-shirt and still didn't hire the guy. He may say he is interested in being an OC but chances are no head coach would ever actually give him full control of the offense because thats not how it works, at some point a head coach is going to want to make the call about going for it on 4th and 7 and the 50 and so nobody is going to hire stitt and he isn't going to want to get hired as an oc.

It has nothing to do with sports so doesn't really belong on the blog but while running for csg president he slandered another of the candidates saying she used an anti-semetic slur and using some islamaphobic language but never providing any proof, just spreaded it around campus via an email. He also used a campaign video with "daquan" who is an incredibly offensive charicature and appropriation of black culture and that really upset a large portion of the minority students at michigan. Just overall he does a very poor job of handling issues with any of the minority groups on campus and has alienated a lot of them. He has also along with schlissel poorly handled an anti-sexual assault movement but that is more of an opinion based off what friends still there and active tell me.

It's a shame Dishell has some serious issues outside of this because his handling of all of the AD stuff has been on point.

Serious question but why do you have respect for him? So far the only things I've heard about him have been about his handling of a sexual assualt movement on campus pretty poorly but I traveled in circles that tend to be pretty critical of administrators so I could have missed things.

They also always do budget stuff over the summer and out of town so they don't get student or faculty protests.

Regents meetings spent almost a straight year running out of seats and moved rooms three times because of student activists a couple years ago, this sort of thing happens.
|3 days 23 hours ago||You guys are going to be real||
You guys are going to be real dissapointed, nothing real ever gets discussed by regents at these things and they are horribly boring for the most part. Maybe the regents will urge schlissel to fire brandon but they sure as hell won't say anything about it at this meeting.

The difference between the nfl and cfb and your team is that they can sell gear to raise more money. If a uniform costs $100 to produce (it doesn't) and they turn around and sell it for $500 (game worn gear goes for more) they are still raising an extra $400 over just donating the money the uniform would have cost.
I also don't get why people are so anti awareness. Breast cancer is one of the most overfunded diseases that exist, especially relative to its numbers. I'm all for continuing to raise money for research but that isn't really the issue as there is tons of money in this research already while awareness could help save more lives by leading to more people getting screened and knowing what to look for. I'm sorry for your family, cancer is a truly terrible disease but your comment isn't really helpful. If you really want reform make sure you are giving your money to responsible places that provide more than just research grants and avoid the susan g kommen foundation.

Holy shit no he wasn't. In case people forget so easily he beat oregon last year and still lost 5 games. The program was only "improving" by the historically low standards he set in his first year, if you compare him to the previous 100 he was not on an upward trajectory but still below where he should have been in year 3. Hokes worst year so far (and I want Hoke gone) is still as good as rich rods best. Rich rod never recruited well at Michigan, the lack of offensive line and senior safetys is entirely on him and by the middle of his third year half the team (the defense) didn't even support him anymore.
Rich Rod doing ok at Arizona and Hoke being the wrong choice does not mean that firing rich rod was the wrong call. Everyone is operating in hypotheticals and just assuming shit because we aren't doing well now but none of it is based in reality. Denard wasn't a multi year starter because rich rod started tate over him and roy roundtree was our most talented receiver for a year because rich rod couldn't get athletes to come to michigan, you know why we don't have senior playmakers on this team? because they never came.
People keep liking to point out how great a coach rich rod is because he is succeeding with a young qb but then blame his lack of success at michigan because of a young qb. Well which is it? Denard was in the program for 2 years by the end of rich rods last season and looked no better at the end of the year against mississippi state than when he started his freshman year, electric but erratic and turnover prone. People need to stop obsessing that good would have happened, we don't know if it would have and all signs pointed to it not working by year 3, it was time to move on and we should just deal with it,

Oh jesus christ he beat oregon last year too and still finished with 5 losses, Arizona being succesful is the most annoying thing that could happen to this board. Just because it is happening there doesn't mean it would have ever happened here.

There is a lof of confidentiality stuff. As a student I had the opportunity to meet with a few of the regents outside of the monthly meetings and they made it pretty clear that anything discussed was confidential, they present a unanimous front when they vote but there is always discussion going on behind the scenes.
It's like the Warren supreme court regarding busing issues post brown v. board. There was tons of infighting among the justices but they all agreed that no matter what they had to present a united front or the ruling would not be followed so even though the justices split 5-4 on busing issues when they voted it was a 9-0 decision. Creating a united front is important to the regents but a lot of confidential discussion happen away from the meetings, they just don't involve all the regents in one place or all talking to each other to avoid breaking the laws.
TL;DR If Brian actually were to be elected regent he would only ever be able to post on very football specific things and nothing regarding the coaches or administrators or the goings on between the AD and the rest of the university.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||The things that Brandon has||
The things that Brandon has done to non revenue sports probably won't be seen in his tenure, the new facilities are going to be good but they aren't done. I'd say that's number 5, going back to plain block M made me happy too. I also don't think you can knock him based off what a hypothetical AD may have done. He's maintained a surplus in the AD despite spending a ton of money, considering most AD's including Michigans for a long time hemorrhage money not being in the red is still somewhat of an accomplishment.
In terms of the regents they actually do a lot but mostly just take the presidents lead which is why they are so in lock step. Everything gets done behind closed doors but I can tell as a student who was very active in trying to get institutional change while at the school the regents are the one's with that power. If Brian is seriously going to run for regent I would hope he is putting a lot of thought into the academic and university side of things, the athletic stuff is a tiny part of regents work other than rubber stamping the spending of money.

Tom Brady could be our kliff Kingsbury, young attractive former qb coach. Seems like Brady is pretty close to being done in the NFL since he said he would retire when he started to suck. Just bring him back and have woodson be the DC. This is easy.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||And yet they still lost 5||
And yet they still lost 5 games and gave up over 30 points 4 times and twice over 40. The offense also came up small frequently against better teams as it tended to do at Michigan. scored 21 in a 58-21 loss to asu, 17 against a bad washington state team, 13 against washington. Yeah they beat Oregon and that is impressive but outside of that one game the season as a whole was the definition of mediocore. I know someone will say mediocore looks great right now but people need to give it a rest with this rich rod is actually an amazing coach look at arizona bullshit.
He was terrible at Michigan, his best season through year 3 was Hokes worst, and he has been the definition of mediocore since he got to arizona. Thats great and all but proves nothing that firing him was a bad idea, we just made the wrong hire after firing him.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||That was his defensive||
That was his defensive backfield in 2010? must have missed that. Al borges had a productive offense at san diego state. The big east is like a half step better than the MAC winning there means you can move up to a mid level program and thats about it.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||When you boo after a timeout||
When you boo after a timeout call, or as the punt team is running on the field or as they go to huddle down 3 scores in the second half or call a draw on 2nd and 17 down in the second half. Those things clearly have nothing to do with the players and they know it.

I'm glad you live in a world that doesn't exist but I pointed out numerous examples of other "top" programs not getting their top choice to show that you are being delusional that thinking because we are Michigan we can get whoever we want when that is not true for a single program in the country. It also doesn't matter what you think adidas looks like, saying something is immune to sales would mean that it doesn't matter how big the fan base is people wouldn't be buying it and that is obviously not true since we are top 5 in apparel sales. Obviously I want us to hire a coach that will win but if I lived in your fantasy world I would just go get saban, get sumlin as my oc and qb coach and dantanio as my defensive coordinator because you know why not, we are michigan. Our rivals can do it (even though that isn't true at all since brain kelly wasn't nd's top choice, jim tressel wasn't osu's top choice when he was hired, al golden wasn't miami's top choice, strong wasn't texas's top choice, the list goes on ) why can't we?
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Jesus this post is just||
Jesus this post is just delusional. Texas didn't get their guy this coaching search, alabama had a rought stretch prior to saban, ohio state had to get jim tressel, it's not like he was a high profile hire, florida has had no luck since meyer, miami can't always get their guy. School tried for years to get peterson from boise state and he never budged, sometimes things don't work out. In 2007 les was about to coach for a national championship, nobody leaves that situation. In 2011 we lost to the nfl which is most coaches coaching dream. Its why saban and harbaugh and chip kelly and pretty much every succesfful dynasty building high profile coach leaves for it.
We also are top five in apparel sales and the second largest sports contract in college football, not sure where you get the unpurchasable items. You really just don't care about reality do you.

While it's fun to say the program was on an uspwing with rich rod I think people are still forgetting that hokes worst year (so far) is still as good as rich rods best. I think we need to get rid of hoke and brandon but I'm pretty tired of seeing this revisionist history that rich rod was about to take the program to soaring new heights when nothing in his 3 years here showed he was capable of beating a good team.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||There is little about sports||
There is little about sports that pisses me off more than players saying the role of fans is to just support since they can't possibly understand what its like to "actually" be part of the program. Fuck that. The program wouldn't exist without the players but it also doesn't exist without fans, both sides get a say and neither gets to tell the other one how they should react. If I want to boo so that the coaches know they suck I'm going to boo, they can deal with it or swtich careers. (I don't advocate booing college players, pro athletes can shut the hell up about it).
However having said all of that, while its a popular refrain here that Brandon only cares about money it is pretty clearly untrue. He has spent millions of dollars and a lot of time working to improve every non revenue sport at Michigan. Non revenue sport players love him because they have received mored support than ever before, that is the opposite of focusing on money. He may be attempting to ring every dollar out of Michigan football in order to subsidize it but that isn't caring about just the dollar, its trying to take advantage of your best assest to improve the none money making aspects, people who only support football don't like that because they don't care about an indoor rowing facility but the women on the rowing team, who are also the responsibility of the AD appreciate it a lot. Brandon still needs to go, but it isn't because he doesn't care about Michigan or the student athletes under his department.

|3 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah but they didn't and that||
Yeah but they didn't and that is the best 4 year stretch they have ever had in starkville and finishing 4th in the sec west usually means being behind 3 top 20 teams. Everything is in context, people were amazed by Franklin despite his doing less in a weaker division of the sec. Dan mullen is as proven a guy as you are going to get in less les miles decides he wants to retire at michigan which probably isn't a great situation for us.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||He has also taken mississippi||
He has also taken mississippi state to four straight bowl games for the first time ever and the ranked teams he has been losing to are alabama and texas a&m. He had one year of 4 loses and all 4 were ranked in the top 12 at the end of the year. Mississippi state fans must be suffering from amnesia since they have a history of suck and any coach that gets them above that is a win.
