A different Munich incident came to my mind, the Munich Air Disaster that killed 8 members of the Manchester United soccer team in 1958. They were two time defending English league champs at the time.
Last year's paucity of Big Ten teams in the NCAA basketball tournament is about to be rectified in a ferocious way come March, even if the league cannibalizes itself out of a couple of those spots.
Even if Harbaugh does end up in Ann Arbor, who's to say he isn't the next Nick Saban, with his eyes on the next prize. After all, his brother is doing well (for now) at the next level, you know he's seriously interested in an NFL job, etc.
Not trying to dampen any enthusiasm here, just thinking out loud.
I'm just interested how the program bounces back from the step back they took last year. After the NCAA berth the previous season, it was more than just mildly disappoint to see Beilein's boys to not only miss any postseason play, but actually end with a losing record.
I wouldn't be shocked if Michigan missed out on postseason play yet again. If it happened, I wonder how much scrutiny Beilein would come under, whether he'd face anything like the pressure RichRod finds himself in?
...that the 2012 game is as compelling as those three previous UM-Alabama matchups. Hey, maybe in another 2 years, RichRod gets his defensive (stuff) together. It could happen.
Either way, I'm glad to see Michigan stepping up to play a name opponent early in the season. It's been a while since we've been in a truly big time non-conference tussle.
...I'd love to see Michigan and the Badgers both make it to Detroit, so I hope that projection doesn't hold up tomorrow morning. Here's to them being placed on opposite sides of the bracket.

Last time Cornell was in Green Bay, they lost 1-0 in triple OT to Wisconsin, back in 2006.
So if anyone wants to be an ass to the cornell fans, start up a "triple overtime" chant before the game. And then watch it come true....
