For Comparison's Sake

Ohio State is selling full season student tickets for $252. That is steep. However, they also offer  a "Big Ten" package to students which includes only conference games for $144.

I've been an OSU season ticket holder for nearly a decade, ever since I graduated. Last year was the first and only time that I was ever able to purchase tickets directly from the Michigan Athletic Ticket Office for the OSU game. In fact, I was able to purchase the tickets cheaper from UM than OSU. I think that had much to do with Michigan's "dynamic pricing" architecture. The demand was lower than anticipated so the prices dropped by the time I got around to purchasing the tickets.

It appears that the AD's are trying to capitalize on the secondary markets (Gene Smith not excluded) but they are too late. The consumer is already exhausted by the increased cost of living, while TV continues to produce an attractive free alternative to the live experience.

One of the first things you learn in business/marketing is to understand your customer. The loyal decades long alumnus donor pool is shrinking. Meanwhile, students are "short-term donors" who should be treated like fringe customers. Raising prices while offering a sub-par product (noon games against inferior competition) is not going to build any brand loyalty.

At the 'Shoe

At the 'Shoe, the chair backs/cushions run $49 per seat for season ticket holders (assuming 7 home games). But I've never heard of buying "permanent" cushions only. Must be Michigan only as most of the B1G uses the same design with different logos/colors. I've been to the Big House once (in 2009) and couldn't believe how many people were crammed into a row. Maybe it's gotten better with the renovation, but I'd highly recommend them, if only for those of us with boney asses. Yes, I try to stand through most of the games, but it's such a relief during time outs, halftimes, etc. Also, having your seat truly designated by boundaries is a huge benefit.

7 in a row?

Yes, I hope we kill you guys. But I'm not going to lie, I'm anxious/nervous as hell about the game. Most of us have been around long enough to know that strange things can occur during this game when they're not supposed to. It's what makes this particular game so special. I have no idea how things will shake out to start the game.

In all seriousness though, I hate the douchebaggery between fan bases. My first trip to AA last year was more pleasant than I could have imagined. I'm just trying to return the favor.

Go Bucks!

I'm not big on fan bases

I'm not big on fan bases being dicks to each other in person, so I hope those making the trip to Columbus enjoy the stay. Good luck tomorrow.

Sparty is a bitch

I read this blog quite often because of the awesomeness. But being a Buckeye, it's not something I readily admit to family and friends. I don't post often, only when I am seriously compelled to do so. And today, I can't help but editorialize on this. i have a serious problem with Sparty taking such pride in the losses they've offered you these last three years. I get it; schadenfraude is schadenfradue, but this MSU has not earned the right to be such dicks about beating some of the worst Michigan teams ever. When did this become a real rivalry? I honesty wish we (Buckeyes) had them on the schedule, because this bullshit is insufferable. Sparty needs to do something in Bo and Woody's league before they can beat on their chests. We like to revel in your suffering because we're Ohio State and you're Michigan. We expect the same from you...but MSU? WTF? I'm embarrassed for them.

I know not all MSU fans are this way, but enough of them for are me to generalize. Pull off a 2006 and then you can talk.

See you guys in November.

Et tu Rufus...

This is what's so great about college football: your rival's blog posting analysis of your mascot getting attacked. Great analysis, this is hilarious stuff.

I was at the game and watched the drama unfold. I thought it was awesome, not sure why so many Buckeye fans got their panties into a bunch. I wish there were more passion like this amongst lame mascots and cheerleaders. To think that this psychopath had this planned for a long time only adds to the legend.

I would love to see someone belt that gay ND leprechaun in the mouth.

See you guys in November. Heard you have someone that can maybe play QB.

Remember Ann Arbor 24-12

OK, admitted Buckeye grad here...first post ever on this blog:

Same division, last game of the regular season. Has to be...

The prospect of going 11-0 and having to face your Michigan team this year makes me feel sick. This one game every year is a season upon itself. Who remembers Ann Arbor 1969? I wasn't even alive, yet I somehow remember. If this game was played in October, it would mean nothing.

The TV guys don't get that. They can't possibly get it.

That being said, keep up the great work on this site. Best blog ever.

Go Bucks!
