Cole Luke's middle name?

Please tell me it's "Hand."

It's maybe tough to boil this down into a category...

But yesterday the Raiders (vs. Lions) did what Charlie Weis did against Michigan in the 2009 game. Up by 6 with 2:30 left on 3rd and 3 and the Lions with no timeouts, the Raiders tried to throw deep to ice the game. Incomplete pass, clock stopped, letting the Lions throw over the middle to start their drive from the 2 yard line because they had a free TO with the 2 minute warning. If the Raiders had run the ball, even without getting the first down, they take the clock down to 2:00 and take away the chance for the Lions to stop the clock.

Right after that happened, my friend and I both texted the message "is Weis moonlighting as the Raiders OC?"

Rosenberg's methods

After I read Spencer Hall's takedown, I had to go check the SI article itself to see if Michael Rosenberg had written it since he's now at SI.  But it just looks like he has spread his brand of "investigative" journalism to the other writers at SI. The methods are shockingly similar.

Detroit MLS team

I've been to two MLS games.  I went to a Seattle Sounders game last fall. They play at the Seahawks' Qwest Field, and only open the lower level for seating.  The atmosphere at the game was incredible, and Sounders FC are known for having great fans. After the game (against the LA Galaxy), Beckham said that this was the first MLS game he'd played in that felt and sounded like a game in Europe. I think it helps that Qwest is a great stadium and naturally loud, so it amplifies and reinforces the crowd.

I've also been to a DC United game. While DC had a decent number of loud, die-hard fans, the game was at RFK Stadium, which is possibly the worst large structure ever built except for that unfinished hotel in Pyongyang. I'd be worried that the Silverdome would be much more like RFK than like Qwest - muted, and visibly too cavernous to re-create the necessary atmosphere.

It's too bad they couldn't have saved the infield portion of Tiger Stadium and then built new stands around the outside of a soccer field there. That could have instantly been the best stadium in MLS.

The greatest trick

The greatest trick the devil pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

Seconded

Brian has once again provided the go-to resource on Michigan football.  Many thanks for your hard work through a less-than-rewarding season.  Just like the kids on this team, you've earned your trip to the bowl game.

I saw this at the UConn game, too

After Denard got hurt, all the fans around me (Sec. 31, concourse ~Row 75 (presumably freshmen/sophomores) were talking about how they hoped it was Gardner and not Tate coming into replace him.  It seems like EVERYONE forgot about the Notre Dame and Indiana games last year, when Tate was the BMOC and the future of the program, and forgot about him playing through injuries.

I was happy to see him play well today, especially since his experience will be valuable in the Big Ten season to continue to push Denard and Devin and as a replacement or change of pace for the offense if anyone gets nicked up.

Thanks

I wasn't aware of the ongoing thread about Michigan-friendly bars.  Unfortunately it doesn't look like there as anything listed for the Princeton area.  I'd have to think that there are enough Michigan alumni there for grad schools and Michigan fans there for undergrad, but it also doesn't seem like a very sports-bar-y type of town.

Dumbest rule in sports the dumbest rule HAS to be the "when the ref intended to blow the whistle" rule. That one has overturned goals that happened before the ref could have possibly intended to blow the whistle.
Charlie Sheen I saw it and was reminded of the time when Charlie Sheen bought an entire section's worth of tickets for an Angels game in the hopes of catching a foul ball. It didn't work.
Wait so i'm unclear on who is the hot chick in your analogy: Kiffin? the recruit? USC? If anything, it seems like the recruit is the guy who gets called back by the hot chick (USC/Pete Carroll with an offer), then finds out that the hot chick is taken, but now Kiffin is the hot chick's friend who is available and got the dude's number from the hot chick.
Conspiracy Feagin may have been over-charged by the prosecutors, but it looks like the final agreement is fair. He arranged to act as a middleman and procure drugs for somebody else to sell. This is well within the definition of conspiracy. I also have issues with the reach of conspiracy law (and the criminalization of drugs for that matter), but this is not a controversial application of the law.
I had a feeling when I saw TCU's hat on the same table as Tennessee, UNC, and one other big state school, that the kid would pick TCU. It seemed so out of place that it had to be the one he would pick. I'm sure he had his reasons for going there, but it seems like academically and extra-curricularly(?) the worst of the four schools. And yes, I think he'll be a diaper dandy for TCUROTC.
Brodie you beat me to it.
Mike Komisarek Komisarek is also playing for the team, I believe. Analysis of the USA team: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/allan_muir/01/01/usa.rost… AP report on the USA team: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/hockey/nhl/01/01/us.olympic.team…
Boston College Brian's previous post (below) mentioned BC as a somewhat attractive dark horse possibility. Unlike Pitt, it would offer a new market for the BTN and the Big Ten in general. The distance involved probably isn't a dealbreaker either. And though it's not an AAU member, its academics are very strong. My entirely uninformed opinion is that BC would have a stronger fanbase than Rutgers, and at least on par with Pitt. Is BC no longer considered a possibility? http://mgoblog.com/content/big-ten-expansion-pros-and-cons
Drafting at the bottom of the round Drafting at the bottom of the first round every year doesn't help. This is also the problem that shows up with the Pistons. After so many years of success in the regular season, it's really tough to find good young players that can make an impact on your team when you draft in the bottom half of the first round.
Scholarship question Can any of the early enrollees' scholarships be applied to last year's class, thus allowing us to take more than 25 commits? I have a vague understanding that there are ways we can do this, or grayshirt players, or something.
18 million reasons not to resign Resigning would mean turning his back on at least $18 million. I have a feeling that he meant it when he said he wouldn't resign. Although he might "resign" in combination with a buyout to make it look noble.
ND Nation expectations Don't forget that at least one aging former member of the ND coaching staff expected the Irish to lose no more than 1 game and be in the BCS Championship game.
Strength of schedule ratings I've checked a few strength of schedule ratings and they all put Florida's schedule strength ahead of Texas. According to Sagarin's SOS ratings, Florida also has a tougher schedule than TCU and Cincinnati, and FWIW isn't too far behind Alabama's schedule. This is obviously all academic at this point, as either Florida or Alabama will be a clear number one after the SEC Championship as long as both win next week.
Woodley > Stanton I'm pretty sure Woodley would still have been a valuable player on the Lions, considering the state of their front 7 last year and his contributions to a Super Bowl winner. Just like DeMarcus Ware or Shawne Merriman would have been better than Mike Williams in 2005, even though they both play 3-4 OLBs as well. Speaking of Matt Millen, it really sucked that he, as a Penn St. alum and epic destroyer of the Lions, came to Ann Arbor to call the game yesterday.
Where to get unpasteurized cider The federal government requires most fresh cider to be pasteurized before sale. The only exception is for sales directly from producers to consumers (so no middleman like a grocery store). Therefore, the only way to get real, authentic, unpasteurized cider is from a local cider mill - fairly common in Michigan, probably much less common in Texas and Florida. Around Ann Arbor, I like the Dexter cider mill in Dexter and Parmenter's Cider Mill in Northville. Parmenter's has the best cider donuts, ever.
Sarcasm Meter Please check yours before you give me a negative point. Thanks for the comments so far.
Law Student at UM No.
D-Rob probably gets the nod. His state championship time was 10.44. Woolfolk's best time (listed on his mgoblue track bio) is 10.58.
That video is ridiculous But what's more impressive is how he made NFL defenses look like that throughout his career. Reggie Bush might be the closest college comparison to Barry, and he hasn't come close to replicating that success in the NFL.
Actually the last time I checked, 2>1
Hopefully Tressel will comment on the trip he just took to overseas military bases, which resulted in the picture shown here: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Headlinin-N… Truly priceless.
2009 Stanley Cup Finals It was Game 6 on the road. 3rd period. I received a pass on the blue line and carried it towards the goal on my backhand. Just as the defender tried to poke at the puck, I went under his stick to my forehand and lifted a quick shot over the goalie. Beat him cold. The puck's headed in, and then...Clang! hits the post, and the goalie gets lucky enough to sit on the puck instead of knock it back into the goal. We end up losing by 1 instead of going to overtime.
