Last year they were the 4

Last year they were the 4 seed that upset #1 seed UVA in the Sweet 16 - but then ran into the buzzsaw of UConn and Napier in the E8 and lost to eventual Champion Huskies.  Was that region gerry rigged for that to happen ahead of that game so a 7 seed could get to the final four?

I remember that crazy 2005 run - they played Duke, UNC and Kentucky - that KY game was Double OT iirc.  they were all 1 or 2 seeds.

the Ford Field FF they beat the overall #1 Louisville that no one on earth thought they could beat, then took to Stanley Johnson and Uconn, another #1 seed in the FF, then lost to #1 UNC in the Title game.  Oh, and they beat #3 Kansas before Louisville.  MSU has played just about every seed combo you can in this tourney over the years.  They've had a break here and there, but they've also beaten a lot of really good teams. You don't make two FFs as a 5 seed without upsets.  if he gets his 7th FF as a 7 seed, it may just be his best coaching job yet.  Which is a tad disconcerting bc I was under the impression they were trending downward and he was starting that retirement slide.  Gonna really suck if we have to deal with another decade of this shit.

Calling Oklahoma a joke is

Calling Oklahoma a joke is just plain stupid and ignorant.  Hield is the real deal B12 POtY, they beat Iowa State and Kansas in recent weeks, and earned a high seeding in the tourney.  They average in the high 70s and prefer games in the 80s.  MSU came out in the 2nd half and simply shut down their offense - i think they only made 4 or 5 fgs in the last 12-14 minutes of the game...rest of their points came from the line.  Every shot was contested and despite Hield's attempt at heroics, Trice and Valentine hit their Free throws and those two alone outsocred OU in the 2nd half.

That Trice kid is this year's Napier.  He just refuses to lose games.  I think they''ll beat Louisville somewhat easily in another ugly game, say 62-50.  Then either Duke or the Zags will truck them in Indy, but if you're an MSU fan, do you really care at that point?  You got a final four in a rebuilding year?  If they do make it any farther it will be 100% because of Trice.  That kid is just fun to watch, doesn't talk trash like some assholes out there, and makes big shots.  Dawson is an enigma to me.  He looks like he should be getting 15 an 15 every night, but his head seems to wander.  odd.

And i'm sorry, but that OU bench was a goddamned clown show.  saw sparties comparing it to Baylor's bench in the Cotton Bowl and thought that was pretty apropos.  Not the classiest bunch down there in Norman.  But make no mistake, they are a very very good team who blitzed MSU to start, took their foot off for a second, and then MSU did what they do - turned the tables, played stout D and just didn't quit fighting. Frankly I give guys like Trice and Costello more credit than Izzo for that.  They just said Fuck this.  We're not done yet.

And they aren't. No reason to make shit up about selection conspiracies (you guys do know that Hollis isn't in the room when MSU is discussed, right?   just like how all the other ADs and coaches on the committee leave the room when their school is up?) and other nonsense about MSU always having the easiest road.  The studio crew noted that no one on CBB history has beaten more higher seeds than Izzo - he's 12-9 when a lower seed in tourney games.  that's an NCAA record.  The guy knows how to turn these teams around and focus them.  I don't know how...but he does.  Give them credit.  It's great for the conference - one that was bashed pretty hard this year - to have the chance to take two teams to the Final Four.  That'd be pretty special.  My friends patted me ont he back and said "I don't like it all that much, but good like tonight man" with a smile when we were playing for the whole enchilada.  why do we have to be such whiny bitches about their success?  It's sad and reflects poorly on us all.

Uhm, i'm not sure where you

Uhm, i'm not sure where you get your statistical information, but that could not be farther from the truth.  of all coaches with his length of tenure Izzo has the top PASE (performance against seed expectation) in all of CBB.  IIRC, Brad Stevens' percentage was slightly better, but only after 4 or 5 years.  Izzo is above K, Roy, Self, etc.  He's taken two 5 seeds to the final four for god's sake.

It's also worth noting that Beilein is right up there with him, just with a smaller sample.  But they are both among the top ten tourney coaches in basketball.  Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you need to make shit up.

two questions:  Are we just

two questions:  Are we just choosing not to believe John H. when he said publicly he has no desire to coach any college program, specifically Michigan?  Has something changed there?  Seems like a pipe dream at this point for either Harbaugh as we can't match NFL $$.

I find it interesting no one has mentioned Cam Cameron.  Not saying he's the best option, but he and Miles are the two left from the Carr tree that are viable candidates....and he seems far more likely to entertain the idea.  Could do a lot worse (like Brady Hoke!).  Is the consensus that we will actively go AWAY from the "michigan man" crap?

i don't know....what's he

i don't know....what's he supposed to do?  EVERY YEAR ABC/ESPN does a spotlight on the whole thing and it always starts and finishes w/ Mike's comments - they showed it again this year.  Seemed to me he was saying after the game that he's sick of it too.  The media has latched onto it and refuses to let it go.  He talks about it because he gets asked about it every goddamned year.

Hey coach, do you think the little brother thing has been turned around now?  Hey coach, do Mike Hart's comments still upset you?  As much as he can be an expressionless dbag, all that stuff comes from the media and he's kind of forced to respond at some point.  He sounded awfully tired of all the BS to me.

The fact remains is he's a good coach who has transformed MSU into one of the top 2 programs in the conference.  They'll probably go to the CCG again this year - 3 out of 4 since it started.  Meanwhile our coach can't complete a sentence, resorts to all kinds of bizarre motivational tricks, and flat out refuses to develop a single recruit into the player his potential suggested he might be.  All intense rivalries have petty nonsense that goes on....what's sad is we have NOTHING to look forward to.  There is not one single positive out of that game for Michigan.  We're his bitch right now, and until we do something to change it, he's free to do and say whatever he wants.  *shrug*

well BTN was on it....here's

well BTN was on it....here's the video of it.  how bizarre.  it's some kind of long stake or something.  and once again the entire nation is laughing at Michigan for doing something stupid.  smdh.

that would require winning a

that would require winning a minimum of two more games.  so not happening.

how can you not see the

how can you not see the difference between a studen prank during the game week - something we've done many times with the Sparty statue over the years - and something done by PLAYERS on a rivals home field right before kick off in a game where we are a 17 point underdog?  Apples and oranges, and for me the final straw that Hoke is not only an idiot, he has no control of this team whatsoever.  Funchess is mailing it in, Devin barely moves in the pocket.  They put Shane in for ONE PLAY then yank him to let Gardner finish because they changed their minds?   Hill gets trucked by Cook early, then schooled by Lippett for a 70 yard TD.  Kalis is a turnstile.  and now Bolden is planting a stake or whatever into the head of the Spartan at midfield to piss off a team that has been beating our sasses.

Lack of institutional control.  This program is in total and complete dissarray.  Hoke has to go.

Exactly.  Sadly the

Exactly.  Sadly the scoreboard matters at this point, especially with the Big Ten sucking ass and MSU and OSU needing to do whatever they can to boost their resume when playing shit teams like US.  We and everyone else gave them crap about only beating Purdue by two TDs.  It's not hard to see why they'd want to cover the spread and make the score look more like the reality on the field than it did.  Face it, it probably should have been a lot worse than 35-11.  They screwed themselves a couple of times and we only got points from turnovers.  all the committee will do is look at resumes, and 35-11 looks a hell of a lot better than 28-11.

And I can't believe we're talking about MSU being in the playoff conversation, while we need a freaking miracle to get to get to some shit bowl at 6-6.

I simply can't get past the

I simply can't get past the fact that Mr. Clap Clap Clap claims to not have been "fully aware" of the spear.  wtf does that even mean?  what IS he aware of other than the pregame meal menu and eating and practicing on time?!??!

This sounds a lot like Bobby Williams after 49-3.  Didn't he get fired that Monday?  We can only hope the same happens here....

i'm just reserving

i'm just reserving celebration until we show progress vs. a real team.  This was not a real team - they are a bad FCS team that most schools would trounce.  It's GREAT to get the monkey off our back and all, but in the end we really don't KNOW anything yet.  Let's not start sucking each other off just yet.

i don't want to rain on the

i don't want to rain on the parade, but is no one a tad concerned with how well Golson played today? And then, well, there's this... http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=332430130

Whether it's excessive or not

Whether it's excessive or not is irrelevant.  the rule states that the new school has to be within 100 miles from home (I believe that's the number...it may be even closer).  Since they are in Chicago a number of schools fit that requirement, but AA is over 250 and therefore does not.  It's pretty cut and dry really and while there's no reason not to appeal just in case, I wouldn't hold my breath.  They're pretty black and white with this kind of stuff.  110 miles?  Sure.  2.5x the rule?  No way.

So we just have to hope that DG truly has gotten some speed back and is capabable of getting beyond the LOS in less than 3 seconds unlike last year.

uhm...you do realize that

uhm...you do realize that this MSU team shoots more threes than any Izzo has ever had and went 2 for 17 from 3 yesterday, right?  tired legs is hardly an excuse when it fits them better than us.  And it's pretty obvious that the only reason they finished 8-7 was that they didn't have their normal rotation of players for the entire conference slate.

Do you really think we win both those games if Dawson was playing and Appling was healthy?  This whining is pretty pathetic.  MSU is damned good and hitting their stride at just the right time - a lot like Louisville last year, another team that EVERYONE picked to win it all, and guess what?  they did!  It wasn't surprising to see a lot of MSU/L'ville finals picked.  We will struggle with any team that has a decent big.  But we can also go far if Nik is on.  But that's a lot to ask one guy, while MSU has shown they have multiple players that can take over a game.

I just don't see the point of all the whining other than simple jealousy and immature little brother nonsense.  It's like i'm reading tRCMB during FB season!

ooof.

looks like we all got

ooof.

looks like we all got some Mojitos coming!  and a lot of hats and shoes need to be eaten! lol.  Man this thread makes me sad.  so much hope 4 months ago.  ugh.

I think we'll be in the Texas

I think we'll be in the Texas Bowl actually.  not sure why they have Minny in the lowest bowl when they'll finish ahead of us and iowa in the division.  Name recognition I guess, and they'll only have one more win than us so I guess that's it.  Sucks for them though, and frankly i'd rather play Kansas State than Mississippi.

158 yards of offense.

158 yards of offense.  158!!!!!!!!   That' is absolutely pathetic.  the ONLY reason we weren't blown out 24-3 is that Iowa did their damndest to outsuck Michigan.  That's how far we've fallen...struggling to gain 200 yards of offense every week.  It's beyond bad.  Green's no better than Fitz w/ 23 yards on 11 carries - he's slow as mollasses.  Gardner w/ 3.5 yards per pass?!?!?  That's ABYSMAL.   And for as good a receiver as Funchess is, he's a horrid blocker - he simply doesn't even try to do it.  That wouldn't be so bad if he was a WR, but he's still playing TE and his inability to block anyone is a huge problem that hasn't gotten enough attention.  He had another awful day today.

So here we are, with our only shot to get to 8 wins being drawing a shit opponent in the Texas bowl.  Pathetic.  This staff is simply in over its head.

It rotates, with BTN getting

It rotates, with BTN getting first choice a few weeks a year.  So some weeks games you'd expect on ABC/ESPN are on BTN and vice versa.

and as others have noted: MSU and Wisky are on ESPN today, w/ OSU on ABC.  Like it or not, those are the top 3 teams in the conference.  History means diddly squat in terms of who gets what slots at this time of year.  Jockeying for the BW3 and Texas Bowls is hardly a marquee matchup.

and they have back ups who

and they have back ups who are already studs ready to replace them.  Ed Davis had 2.5 sacks saturday and Taiwan Jones has played a lot at LB and is a beast.  Lawrence Thomas will be healthy, Trae Waynes and Demtreious Cox are excellent in the secondary.

As someone else said, we've been claiming MSU's D would take a step back since Greg Jones left, and all they've done is get better year after year.  They lost Gholston and replaced him with Calhoun - who is a freaking beast.  The one exception i think is Bullough - that dude is a machine who not only plays well but is a computer back there reading the O and getting guys in the right spot . I watched him a lot and he's the heart of that D - that is tough to replace.  but as far as talent?  Nothing that we've seen in the last 5 years suggests they'll be anything less than intimidating and tough to score on.  And I don't buy for a second that the D is all on Narduzzi - Dantonio built that defense, and whether or not Narduzzi leaves they will still be a top D.

Meanwhile, where is the development of our guys?  They have 2 and 3 stars becoming all americans, we have 4 and 5 stars that aren't even playing, let alone playing.  Where's our Shilique Calhoun?

That's not really true.

That's not really true.  Langford looks pretty damned good to me - he's fast and strong.  Burbridge is the real deal.  That Kings kid is good.  The Shelton kid is a true frosh I think.  They are VERY young on offense so guys will emerge.  They lost a TON the last two years and are starting to recover.  Was it Fred Smith that went to them?  He would be a senior this year I think.  I don't think a single WR other than Fowler is above RS Soph - same for their Tight Ends and RBs.  Coupled with the improvement Cook has shown since looking like a dumpster fire the first few weeks and I have no reason to believe they'll do anything but improve on O.

D is another story, but we've been saying they'll take a step back there for 3 years now too.  They just keep finding new guys to plug in.  Bullough did for Jones - that Ed Davis kid got to Devin a few times today and looks to be very good.  And don't they have like 2 or 3 other Bullough kids there or on the way?  I seem to remember Max saying his little brother was the best of them all.  That's kind of scary to imagine.  That kid is going to play on Sundays.

and he had the audacity to

and he had the audacity to say THIS after the game?!?!

@chengelis Taylor Lewan when asked how tough is Shilique Calhoun: "He's not. They only put him on me a couple times... didn't really have a problem"

-48 yards rushing and Devin couldn't stand up by the end of the game and you didn't really have a problem?!?!?  WTF?  Take some responsibility.  Admit you got your ass kicked.  Be a MAN.  And Calhoun is the perfect representative for all that is wrong here.  They lose Gholston, who is supposed to be the best guy on D, and the replacement is some no name who is BETTER.  That's frightening to me.  We sure as hell haven't been able to do that in a long long time.

yep

I'm sick and tired of recruiting championships.  I want to see Big Ten Championships.  nothing but promises and lip service from Hoke and Co for 3 years and we get manhandled by a bunch of 3 stars who show heart, discipline, and speed all over the damned field.  They are simply a better coached team at every level.  That's extremely dispiriting.

They have young guys on their lines too....but they play well.  and they aren't five stars like Kalis - who looks like he's still in high school out there.  We have serious problems and it starts with the coaches.

MSU has won more

MSU has won more in-conference game than any other Big Ten team in the last 5 years.  I'd say that's something.  and can we really cast stones like "4-11" when we're 2-10 vs. tOSU in the last 12?

The simple fact is that he's done an incredible job turning that program around - and has done so with largely "inferior" talent.  Leveon Bell was a 2 star, Dennard was a 2 star...hell, the vast majority of that crazy good D is made up of 2 and 3 stars.  Sadly, he realized that both MSU and u of M being good aren't mutually exclusive and we have a situation where both programs are rising.  While it makes it harder to beat them, overall i think it's great for the rivalry and great for the State of Michigan.  I don't see why we have to result to making stuff up to disparage them....there's plenty of reasons to do that.  They DID play OSU the 4 out of the last 6 years before getting them off the schedule this year.  How easily we forget that we got the benefit of not having to face Wisconsin when they were going to Rose Bowls.

For the record, if you look

For the record, if you look at past results they actually only avoided OSU in 2009 and 2010.  They played them from 2003-07, and 2011/12.  Sure they lost most of them, but the FACT is that they played 8 of the last 10 years.

I hate that people here have to resort to lies to make their points.  You guys do realize we lucked out by missing back to back champions Wisconsin the last two years, right?  You can only play who's in front of you.  The reality is they beat OSU in their down year and then lost by a point last year, AND went 3-1 vs. Wisky in that time w/ the one loss in that glorious CCG.

It's fine to hate Sparty...we all do.  but lets keep the facts straight.

This may be difficult for you

This may be difficult for you to comprehend, but players actually improve from freshman to soph seasons.  Especially when they were injured for most of their freshman year.  an Improved Harris is a scary thought, and Valentine showed some pretty heady game in the last few weeks of the season.  He's very good.

Why is it so difficult to give them credit?  you sound like the tyipcal rcmb whiners who bag on Mcgary for being old.  And Trey was a 3 star....stars don't mean shit.  Players play...doesn't matter how many stars they were arbitrarily labeled with in high school.

Kaminski

Everyone here seems to be forgetting about Kenny Kaminsky.  Kid is a stud and is fully recovered from shoulder (?) surgery and is a classic stretch 4 who can shoot and play inside.  He and Costello will replace Nix's minutes and make the team more athletic overall.  Costello really came on at the end of the year in his own right.

No one seems willing to acknowledge that Harris was hurt all year and still won frosh of the year.  if he's 100% healthy he'll be scary good.  Schilling will probably redshirt, and the young guys will all be better - THAT is what will make them the favorite.  Not sure why that's so hard to understand.  Valentine will be more controlled, Trice healthy (also hurt all year), etc.  They have depth everywhere.

Dawson is the real wild card.  Kid could be a lottery pick if he could learn how to shoot.  Right now he's just a freakish athlete...but not yet a basketball player.  if he puts in the time in the gym they will be tough to beat.

Give credit where it's due: they have a classic set up for a run: RS Frosh to Seniors evenly spread across the court and two bonafide stars.

oof.

that's gotta be incredibly embarrassing.

Amen

This thread is pathetic.  I understand wanting to vent a little, but to act like we only lost because of the refs in a game where we were in the bonus for the last 12 minutes and L'ville didn't get there until 30 seconds to go is ludicrous.  McGary got away with a lot of contact down low and was lucky he didn't foul out earlier, we had about 7 trips in a row where Burke or THJ got to line for 2 or and 1s that kept us in it from about 5 to 2 minutes to go...Siva had a clean steal going the other way that was called at the last second that turned into a 3 for Trey - a 5 point turn around.  Behanen had some legit complaints in how he was mauled on some rebounds...there were a lot of touch foulson L'ville down the stretch, the kicked ball that led to a turnover, etc.

The fact is that the officials sucked - on both ends.  there is no way they did so in a way that decided the game though.  Louisville had what, 4 guys with 4 fouls?  McGary is going to get in foul trouble until he learns to control himself better in the paint on D and can set a proper screen.  But if you want to go back through the game you can easily find all kinds of bad calls in our favor too.  It was just a piss poorly officiated game.  In the end, what was really the HUGE difference in it all was Hancock hitting those 3s at the end of the first half and in 90 seconds taking a 12 point game to a 1 point game.  Why in god's name Beilien didn't call a time out is beyond me.  and then we let 30 seconds go off the clock  trying to foul to get them to the line - which only happened because we only had 4 fouls called on us in the entire second half!  They had 13 at that point!  How can you say we lost because of the refs when the disparity was so lopsided?

In the end a thread like this just makes us look like fools.  you might as well start burning couches too.  sparty and bucknuts are going to laugh their asses off at how stupid y'all sound cherry picking the calls that went against us while ignoring the numerous calls in our favor.  To my eye, I was amazed that we had so few fouls in the last minute when L'ville was the tem driving the lane nearly every possession.  Once I thought about it  i realized clls Trey was getting on our end Siva wasn't on theirs.  So it was shitty to be sure...but it was shitty for all involved.  Man up and enjoy the fact that we've emerged from the 15+ years of mediocrity and are here to stay.  We'll be back.

Spot on

The biggest problem with this team is the same that every beilein team has: Too much reliance on the 3.  That's going to be a problem come March.  They need to do more inside, drive to the basket and draw fouls and stop settling for jacking 3s.  I think that's all we did with 5 straight possessions in the last 2 minutes.  No set plays at all...just dribble and jack.

And thank you for actually using the proper name of our rival.  This "Ohio" crap makes us look stupid after last year's NCAAs.  We lost to a good Ohio State team, we don't play the Bobcats this year.  And road wins in the Big Ten are going to be at a serious premium, so there is no shame in losing today.  It was bound to happen.  Expect a dogfight at Minny too.  We got a tough stretch ahead with @MN, IU, MSU, and WI in the next few weeks.  We'll see what this team is made of.

Jonelle famously put Drew

Jonelle famously put Drew Stanton on the KO coverage team and he blew his knee out in a bowl game they lost.  It doesn't make sense to me to have starters pulling dangerous duty like that....there's just no reason for it.  You never saw Alfonzo Dennard or Johnny Adams playing gunner.

Hope he gets well soon...this is a HUGE blow for our D that was already thin.  Lewan better be okay, but i'm seeing some tweets that he may be out a month.

wait, what?  when did we

wait, what?  when did we vacate the NCAAs Ohio game?  and we lost anyway.  makes no sense.

How on earth is MSU a

How on earth is MSU a stepping stone?  to what?  I can't think of a single MSU head coach that's gone on to coach at another BCS school after MSU other than Saban - and he's a special case in every way who was actively using that job to bolt the first chance he got.  Bobby?  Nope.  John L?  Please!  Perles?  nope.  Muddy?  nope.  Can't remember who was between Muddy and Duffy, but don't think they did either, and Duffy sure didn't - and nether did Biggie Munn.  So that's back to WWII and I can't think of anyone but Saban who moved up from MSU.  for as long as I've been alive it's been more of a coaching graveyard than stepping stone!

Foreman is the RG....they

Foreman is the RG....they have a RS Frosh starting at C - Travis Jackson - who handled Mike Martin a lot better than I thought he would.  He's good.  Their next qb Maxwell is probably better than Cousins skill wise, definitely more mobile and has a better arm.  he'll be the starter for 2012 and 2013 barring injury or some miracle underclassman.  Bennie Fowler was supposed to be their big #2 WR this year but I don't know that he's played.  not sure why.  he's good though.  They have some talent in the pipes, but it's not like they'll reload like Wisky does with their O-line.

The big concern for the rest of the conference should be that there is only one Senior on that starting Defense (the safety Robinson) - they are very young and going to get a lot better.  It's time to admit that D is for real.

The good thing is that I think next year we have Gardner full time at QB and a real Pro Style offense that can ram the ball down their throats and a better D that will scare the new kids on the block.

not remotely likely.  And can

not remotely likely.  And can we stop with the "Ohio Buckeyes" nonsense?  it makes us look petty.  It's the ONE thing Hoke does that bugs me.  He's a great coach, and such pettiness is silly.  Mimicking him here when not one person has ever used the term is even dumber.

That said, they are delusional if they think they are getting Dantonio or Meyer...i'm guessing they will end up with someone far down the list.  Times are changing.

This is so ridiculous.  As if

This is so ridiculous.  As if the Big Ten isn't aware of these things and our Coaching staff isn't doing precisely that.  I've never in my life seen a group of fans set out to lynch another teams players like folks here have this week.  and i'll tell you what, as someone outside of the state - no one else cares.  in fact, i polled people at my office here in KC about it and the general consensus was "you guys got your asses beat."  Not one person had a word to say about Gholston, let alone rush.  Just shrugs all around.

It's football.  Gholston is not the first, nor will he be the last to throw a punch.  Rush committed a personal foul and was assessed 15 yards for it.  That's all that will ever happen to him in particular, and petitions to have him suspended are ludicrous.  What happens when Martin throws a QB down hard and he gets hurt?  will you all be calling Delaney to have HIM suspended?  These guys play with a lot of passion, and this game in particular gets everyone revved up.  Look at what Gallon did to #5.  Heck, #5 got his ass beat a few times.  I guarantee you MSU is putting a compilation of plays together as we whine about this that will show plenty of off the books behavior by both teams.

The ony thing we should care about is the fact that we couldn't take advantage of the GIFTS their lack of control gave us.   We should have won that damned game despite being outplayed because of those PFs.  That is what pisses ME off.  If Lewan can shrug and walk away from that "punch" then so can I - and you should be able to as well.  I just don't get the whole "I can't wait to watch them lose to Wisconsin!" thing - like that's some solace to our loss.  who gives a shit about MSU losing to Wisconsin?  I care about MICHIGAN losing to MSU!!!  How will Wisky kicking their ass help us one little bit?

I swear this place is in the midst of some serious mass delusion over the reality of the situation.  Gholston will probably be suspended, but Rush won't - and he shouldn't be.  And to suggest that a Big Ten Team goes out to deliberately injure players is silly.  It's just not true and deep down you know it.  Frankly, I wish all the Gholston nonsense would be locked up and the entire board would just move on to Purdue and focusing on what MICHIGAN needs to do to win 10 games.

why would Rush be suspended?

why would Rush be suspended?  It was a late hit, but hardly egregious.  happens every weekend.  if you are going to start suspending guys for roughing the QB there's going to be a LOT of starting players missing time.  Never gonna happen.

I'm glad #2 will get a suspension, but that's all that needs to happen.  Frankly, i've been embarrassed by this board's insane over reaction to this.  The punch was WAY out of line and he was flagged.  He got flagged for the facemask on Denard too.  We couldn't make them pay though - and that seems to be what people are mad about deep down.  I've never seen a group that over reacts more than this place though.

are we really complaining

are we really complaining about the garbage?  there were 50 mph winds all morning and 80 thousand people in there, of course stuff was going to blow around.  Go watch a Hawaii Game if you want to see true trash - both on the field and in the stands ; )

Please tell me this is a

Please tell me this is a joke.  For crying out loud people - GET OVER IT.

come on

come on...he pushed his face into the turf and was jawing at him ALL GAME long...Lewan is well known to be a talker.  Gholston reacted badly and got flagged for it.  he's hardly Jack the Ripper.  Just watch how non chalantly Lewan walks away after the punch...he did what he wanted, instigated the sophomore and got him to commit a stupid penalty.  all gamesmanship, but he was definitely pushing it.

I give Hoke credit...he

I give Hoke credit...he hasn't made excuses and dismissed questions about anyone playing "Dirty" - "I don't know how they played dirty," Hoke said. "They had some personal fouls on late hits on the quarterback, but you can get those all the time."

Martin: "We knew what type of game this was going to be," Martin said. "It's going to be a tough, physical game. Coach talked about keeping our poise and composure as a football team. I think we did a good job of it on that side of it.  "I mean, who doesn't know what this type of game is? It's a tough physical game, period. It's an in-state rival. It's big for both teams. That's what it's all about."

Kovacs: "They were definitely more physical, They pounded us. They beat us up. You've got to give them a lot of credit.

And Denard makes the biggest staement imo - given all the hand-wringing here anyway - "Asked later if Michigan State played dirty, Robinson said, "No. We were playing football. It's a dirty game."

Hoke on the 4th down call:  “We’ve been very successful over the last two years off of that same play...It was Al’s call. I was the one who said, ‘Go for it.' "

huh?

you mean they pushed us and we were too classy to push back?  I'm not sure what this post even means.

of course it's a rivalry.  does it mean more to them?  of course.  does mean it's meaningless to our guys.  and there are a whole lotta threads on this board that testify to the fact that it means a lot to us too.  I hate losing to them.  That's a rivalry.

And look at the post game interviews.  To a man our guys admitted they got outmanned and beat up by that Defense.  That's not good.  But it has nothing to do with our guys "not having it" - that's nonsense.  I'll tell you what though, i'm glad our guys have the balls to admit it - that's how you overcome and come back next year and kick some ass of their own.  I'm old enough to remember some nasty physical games in the 70s and 80s...it's great to have that back, and I look forward to our guys giving as well as they take.  Or, to go about "having it" all game long.

Lines

My main concern for next year are the lines.  I'm genuinely concerned we'll actually take a step back before moving forward in 2013.  our o-line depth is bad.  very bad.  we're going to have walk-ons in the 2 deeps on teh o-line next year.

I also think Hoke's master plan is to have Gardner be the Starting QB next year...and that is why he is forcing him into games now.  This i like and think will make us a more well rounded offense and take some pressure off that line.  we need to use Denard as a hybrid WR/RB and get him in space as much as possible.

The future is certainly bright...but don't be surprised if there's some clouds for a while before the sky clears.

Yep

I guarantee you Hoke is over it already and on to Purdue.  They'll watch film tomorrow and this one will burn a bit.  But it's time to move on.  This obsession with Gholston is pathetic.  It was two plays that gave us 30 yards we did nothing with.  THAT's what makes me mad.  They tried real hard to give us that game and we didn't take it.  And in the end, they came up and took it back with that Pick 6.  who cares about a punch to a facemask or a twisted helmet?  hell, i've seen hundreds of facemask penalties in action way worse than that!

so much over reaction and too little focus on the real problems we should be discussing with this team and our effort and playcalling today.  EXCUSES.

Bingo!

it's clear all the people crying about Gholston have never been at the bottom of a pile!  Ask anyone and they'll tell you it's the meanest nastiest place on earth.  That kind of twisting, pinching, grabbing, biting, poking, and in general trying to hurt the guy next to you happens in ever pile in every game at every level.  Heck, didn't Marcus Ray say he was "a pincher" in that back and forth with Banks in the freep or news last week?  and that he amped it up for this game?

The only difference in this case is that it was on the OUTSIDE of the pile instead of underneath it - so the world got a rare clear glimpse of what is happening every 22 seconds on saturdays and sundays across America in the fall.   I guarantee you our guys were doing the same shit under the pile all game long.

agree

This is really getting out of control.  All this focus on a couple of personal fouls while ignoring the ass kicking we got?  I've read all the articles before coming here and was glad to see Hoke, Kovacs, Martin, and Denard all admit what we all saw:  MSU was stronger, better prepared, and wanted it more and beat us the hell up.  And Lewan is no choir boy, he gives as good as he takes, and you can see how he turns away like it was nothing after the "punch" - because he knew it was coming after grinding his head in the dirt.

Seriously folks, get a grip.  what we should be concerned with is how our Coach seems to have decided he doesn't want Denard starting at QB anymore.  It's clear he is goingo to continue giving Gardner more and more snaps until he can take over.  It's also clear that our D is not as good as we hoped.  and just like last year, MSU showed the world how to contain Denard and beat us.  THAT is what i'm pissed about...not a couple of personal fouls.  You all sound like extremely sore losers that want to go to the dean have some guy disqualified instead of accepting you got beat straight up.  It's pathetic, and very un-Michigan like.
