I'm old enough now to look at this like a dad. Kids are out there busting their asses and giving up their bodies just to read shitty takes all week from the media (why everyone like to dog us like no one else out there isn't losing tough night road games every year) and these garbage fans. We all need to be better parents to these kids who play here.
I don't hate MSU. The fans are annoying. That's about it for me. I think MSU hates Michigan. I think if MSU won the nc in football there is a large base of your fans that wouldn't be satisfied because Michigan would still be there. Michigan fans would still do Michigan fan things, players would still commit and as soon as Michigan does something there is going to be hype. State fans post more about Michigan than Michigan fans do. There's a big game Nee years eve and the State fans I know are still putting Michigan stuff on Facebook. My Michigan people are talking about Florida, basketball and recruiting.
The wording was wordy. They have had a lot of deep runs but THE run has become dated. A lot of their students weren't alive when the Flint Stones were doing their thing. Deep runs are awesome but I also find hanging final four banners consolatory and not prestigious. That's my opinion obviously. I also think Billy Donovan is a better coach than Izzo so there's that.
Basketball? Yes. Which is funny because Michigan is the last of the two of them to have the deepest run in the tournament, and that happened within in the last decade. Their national championship was 3 years after Michigan's last football NC. Football? They have had more success, but I don't think they overshadow Michigan as far as presence or image or marketability goes. That's what frustrates their fanbase is their football team's biggest wins have all been under covered on a national stage compared to Michigan's last 3 coaching searches.
1. MSU fans have never hidden their vitriol and hate for all things Michigan. For me this is not has always been a two way street. Since they have become a successful program in fooball social media has also become a thing so all that comes to you via newsfeeds very easy and you don't have to get out of bed to read something ridiculous or hear trash talk.
2. Although they have decent fans who are great to talk to about all things cfb and B10 they also have a very famous and large sect of their fanbase who takes pride in being over the top, offensive and off color and who may more than likely have been bullied by a Michigan fan at some point in there life and enjoy Michigan losing at anything more than MSU winning anything. More than likely they are only fans of State because they hate Michigan (see the RCMB). The good fans often go out of their way to acknowledge these fans and not condone their representation of the program and distance themselves from them.
3. Depending where you live in Michigan you probably have more Spartan fans in your ears than OSU fans. They will chime in every time MSU wins or every time Michigan has someone decommit. They are your classmates, coworkers and relatives. Especially if you reside in rural areas or the Lansing area. Because of your relationships with these people they will never go full RCMB on you and only rib you or give you a smirk, but to be safe you must assume they all post on the RCMB.
4. They will indict Michigan based on effigys and stereotypes that have been perpetuated long before I was born (arrogant, classless, etc.), and pride themselves on a code of honor from a Frank Miller movie, but when a State player does something and a big deal is made about it they will spin the story to fit their narrative. Jim Harbaugh yells at the refs too much. Tom Izzo sticks up for his team, Mike Hart is disrespectful but Draymond Green is just having fun. The Fab 5 were too brash and cocky. Connor Cook is just a kid and he was caught up in the moment.
Everyone's reasons are different, but I think most in state Michigan fans can probably relate to this list. Feel free to add to it.
That was dumb of me to say lol. I guess if anyone in a coaching position in the Big Ten should have an emotional reaction it should be Urban since they spent more time together. I understand why fans are upset because they are street level, but I have a hard time believing the staff didn't see a move like this coming from Durkin.
It shouldn't be this dark year 1 of the Harbaugh era. Maybe JH is going to stream DCs like he streams graduate transfer qbs? It sucks to see him go, but this wasn't going to be a long term thing.
I'm not going to speculate on the behind the scenes stuff or rifts this may have caused. He's Urban Meyer's protege so if any one should be upset that someone found a more permanent home in the same division it should be Urban. You don't think Jim lured him away from UF without knowing this was to be expected? Harbaugh turned down money to take care of his staff. I'm sure there are contingent plans in motion to get the right guy here. Stop eating each other alive you guys.
Checking in to be a part of the lovefest. It was a great season, and we were able to get a few monkeys off of our back. I think the staff needed to see what's been grinding our gears with their own eyes to get us where we need to go. Nothing is easy and everything needs to be earned. Love the team and I love you guys! If they controlled their own destiny to get to Indy it would be nice to have a late start. For some reason this weekend is bad no matter what is going on in my life (worked weekends or family stuff) so there is always a pro and con no matter the kick. It's been awhile since they had more than bragging rights to play for. Go Blue!
It's all fine and dandy in October for the game with MichiganMichigan State but that's water cooler banter, chiding your State friends. When it's all said and done The Game is prestigious, heated for both sides and perhaps the best rivalry game in the nation. A win is important to MSU this week but the only reason they are playing is because they are in the same division.
He does care more about the Michigan game more than any other game. It's going to take one win over them to fire up the fanbase again and everyone will be coming out of the woodwork to call them Little Brother. Agree with it or not it's a sure thing. It has to bother them that they thought their victory this year was all they needed to make Harbaugh go away, back to the NFL. Now here we are half way through November and Michigan isn't hitting rock bottom, or devestated. In fact in most polls they are just 1 spot ahead of us. That has to be unsettling to the sect of their fans that believed Michigan was never coming back.

In my 30s now. I go a couple weeks between drinks now. Entering my 30s was like this unwanted switch was flipped. I used to be a more nights than not guy. Just destroyed my whole body all through my 20s and didn't feel a thing. Now my body can't keep up. I can remember why I loved it, but haven't had an enjoyable guilt free buzz in some times. Even though I've been forced to grow old I still don't know how to dress like a dad though. If you see me I may look like you, and may look like I want to party, but I can't party with you, but I may try.
The guy is gifted. Sadly this kind of reminds me of how Denard was grinded down to nubs through the seasons he was here. Hopefully we preserve this kid and keep him healthy. Very happy we got the "W" but don't like these games where we expose our wounds.
It's going to a tough game as long as Dantonio is coaching. If we go in there with Hill I like our chances a lot more. I haven't forgotten how bad they were after Cousins on offense. The first cut is going to be the deepest.
Pre season around the water cooler predicted Michigan beating either State or OSU this year? Still not impossible. When is the last time you wanted the bye to get over ASAP so you could see the team get back to business? Everyone needs to be proud of their accomplishments and their status, but no need to try to dissect your in rival's fan base. If the Spartan fans on my newsfeed are an actual sample of the fanbase as a whole I feel sorry for that team. The way MSU has been playing this year they can be proud for playing great today and all they have is a bunch of ungrateful cry baby fans who bail when the team isn't playing lights out football. Good job to both teams today. I am happy to say the threat is very real.
I didn't go to either school (Michigan shirt is from Meijer thank you). I did spend a year and a half at U of M Flint during Lloyd's last 2 seasons which is where my allegiance is for argument with Spartys. Had I gone to MSU I couldn't imagine not being a wolverine fan. Ready for this game and hoping we are solid on every snap.

A SI writer on the dp show today said UF is in the national title picture. I about crashed my car. This is the same UF who struggled for a half of football at home with BGSU. B10 is getting no love but not sure I want any of that love.
Get well soon Travis. Hope you get to play again sooner than later. That is a huge blow for that offense. Habitating in the Lansing area sports talk radio is pro Sparty. Heard this kid on the Mark Dantonio show and he's an anchor for that team.
If they had brought this up before they lost like earlier in the week they wouldn't look like spoil sports. Knowing OSU's snap counts isn't going to Maxwell throw less hard or make those receivers catch better.
I volunteered myself to further my wife's studies. She is in nursing school and I agreed to let her put an NG tube down my nose and into my stomach. She got to the point where I felt like it was going through my brain and then she stopped because she was laughing too hard and "was going to pee her pants". I wouldn't let her try again after I knew what it felt like so I watched two overrated teams slap each other around on ABC.
Gotta represent the Mitten. Dragon's Milk by New Holland. In my prime I drank two 22's and switched to swill. Now that much would put me in the ER. Great stuff though for any one looking for high gravity beer.
I spent the majority of my life not really caring about MSU too much. In a strange twist of events I have found myself living in Lansing and spending my work weeks close enough to EL. This being said sparty talk is in my ear all the time along with a U of M hate obsession (I do have 4 or so other Wolverines working there so it's not all bad). I can't punch people at work so I just hope that OSU takes it to them convincingly Saturday instead for the sake of Roses. Especially since they beat a hobbled Joe Bauserman led team early last year. I work with one buckeye fan and he is scared to tell people his allegiance. He also happens to be the only guy who actually knows anything about football and doesn't sprout a raging boner for a cartoon gladiator every Saturday.
I liked RR. I never once rooted against him or said he should be fired. He is getting taken care of now at Arizona. We don't need to stir up anything with that whole situation. Hoke is our coach we are moving in different directions and looking to the future. ND was really cool every year but the last 4 meetings it was just like an exhibition to see which program was the least wounded and in trouble. The program should be running on all cylinders by '15 so we should schedule someone to test ourselves against. I like Stanford if we are going to do the PAC 12 thing or an SEC team that gets great early season rankings like SC or Tenn.
Had my first after the Illinois game last year. He had a great little stretch there not ever seeing Michigan lose a game. Can't wait to have him be my football buddy till I die.

I wondered why Huge cooled so much on Michigan and I'm pretty sure it's because Harbaugh doesn't go on his show like the other coaches used to.
We go up multiple scores early and MSU fans won't stick around in the cold and rain so there's that.
