They missed/screwed up so many calls the whole game. In the first half, it seemed like it was directed at both teams, but in the end we got the shit end of it all.
Losing a good game is one thing, but losing a complete officiating debacle is another thing entirely. Unfortunately, we made our mistakes too.

We should also get rid of all fouls when there is less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. Teams just use them as an offensive tool in the hopes of winning games.
Any rule of the game becomes a tool that players/coaches use to their advantage. The nice thing about the charge is that it isn't that easy to pull off. It's a gamble.

Going to law school these days is an extreme gamble. A law degree used to be a license to print money. Not so much anymore. With the downed economy the last several years, kids graduating college have moved on to graduate programs (such as law school) to "wait out" the recession. This has resulted in a surplus of lawyers, most of whom graduate with substantial debt, and most of whom can't get a job.
I graduated back in 2008, and I still have friends who either have moved to a different (low-paying) profession or who are working for peanuts in law. A few of us managed to get good high-paying jobs, but only because we had weird specialties (e.g., I have an Electrical Engineering degree).
To the average LSA graduate, I definitely don't recommend law school unless you have a pretty solid plan for getting employed or are freaking amazing and can be in the top 10 (not percent) of your class.

The suit alleges that the right to an education is a "property right guaranteed under both the U.S. and State Constitutions." I have never seen any cases that apply the Constitution's right to property to something as ethereal as an education. I would hope that the attorney has some case to back this up, but hopefully he is stretching pretty far.
He also says that "the sheer lack of an orderly appeals process for students who were cut is also a violation of due process." In order to satisfy due process, an appeal is only required where a RIGHT is being taken from you. It does not apply when a PRIVILEGE is being taken away from you. In my opinion, the ability to play on a high-school sanctioned basketball team is a privilege, and not a right, and is therefore not entitled to an appeal. This can also be supported by the vast number of alternatives available to the student, including non-school-sanctioned basketball teams, public basketball games, chess club, track and field, etc., many of which do not require a tryout, accept all participants, and provide a substantially similar experience (competition, teamwork, etc.) as the basketball team.
My hope is that this case dies quickly. This is one of those cases with the potential to really screw everything up in schools, public leagues, etc. Please go away.
EDIT: I definitely agree that the preferential treatment was pretty messed up. Makes me wonder if there's a way for the judge to outlaw that type of activity, but not sure if s/he can. It probably depends on the way the complaint was drafted.

|4 years 6 weeks ago||This situation is not as||
This situation is not as clear as you seem to make it out to be though.
Is it right to punish all for the bad acts of a few? Dunno. Is it true that those banners represent broken rules rather than a piece of Michigan's history? Dunno.
Regardless of how those banners were achieved, one could argue that they represent a part of the history of our program, albeit a dark part of that history. Here is a (poor) example: years after Germany finally came to their senses regarding the atrocities of the crimes their leaders and military had committed during the second World War, the country OUTLAWED the denial of those atrocities and MANDATED education to all German citizens of those atrocities. In other words, rather than hiding their mistakes and hoping that people forgot about them, they forced their mistakes to be known and accepted the fact that they had been made.
I am, of course, not actually trying to compare the Fab 5 to WWII Germany. But, hopefully you can understand my point.
I've been wondering recently if there could be some way to bring the banners back in a symbolic way. Maybe reverse their color schemes, put them on their own rafter separate from the others, hang them upside down, etc. This would allow them to be displayed, but with the message that they were ill-gotten.
Just thinkin' out loud.

But thanks to an excellent home visit, Dunn will be able to bring his bulldozing style of play to Columbus for the next three to four years."
How does "one of top receivers in country nearly gets screwed over by Ohio football jerkoff" equate to "one of top receivers in country is thanking the heavens that he gets to play for Ohio football jerkoff?"

Ahhhh. Thank you. They may have thought that him laying on the table was disengaging. That wasn't disengaging, that was taunting.

Obviously we'll have to wait to see exactly where the seats are located...But I think that just like the $7,500 seats are the best in the house, you would have to assume that the $50 seats are not so great.
The better question is where the mean value falls. Are we looking at an average cost of $75 or $2,500?
This is obviously the price we pay for having such a huge alumni base, and such an awesome athletic program (which I suppose I can accept). However, I can't stand how boring (old) our fans are - probably because they are the only ones who can afford it. Remember when Erin Andrews commented on how quiet the Big House was? I wish that would change. Oh well.

|4 years 13 weeks ago||That's not true.||
I appreciate the safety element of this whole thing, but let's be honest. This is a contact sport. A VERY contact sport. I don't see how they can keep implementing rules like these.
Using similar logic, punters/kickers should immediately exit the field once the ball has left the tee so as to avoid getting crushed. Actually, that won't be necessary because we can just require the kick receiver to take a knee to avoid these types of collisions.
I could go on, but I think the point is clear. You can't prevent contact in a contact sport, and it's just as difficult to reduce/eliminate heavy contact in a sport with so many different facets.
Is it fair that a 160lb punter might have to try and stop a 275lb lead blocker? No. But that's the game. And we've been playing it for years. Why stop now?

The defense was definitely our biggest problem, and special teams (kickers?) a very close second. However, the other part of the equation was our passing game.
God knows I love Denard. Even more so now for staying with team after RR's departure.
However, while the spread worked excellently for Denard's run game, and while that is part of the point of the spread, the other point is the passing game. In addition to defense, and special teams (oh, sweet mother....special teams. ugh), the spread hurt from our inaccurate and highly inconsistent passing game. Repeat: in addition to defense and special teams.
I didn't like the spread, but we sure scored a hell of a lot of points.

|4 years 14 weeks ago||Likely Point of the Agreement||
This secret agreement, I can only assume, is to indemnify each of the defendants from each other.
So when Moore got hurt, he sued Bertuzzi as the one who actually committed the act, but he also sued Crawford (the coach) and the owners of the cannucks (as Bertuzzi's employer). This is much like going after UPS when their driver backs over your bike, for example. The owner has responsibility for his workers, as does apparently a coach.
In these situations, the company (team/coach) almost always goes after the wrongdoer (Bertuzzi) to recover any money coughed up in the judgment. However, this agreement appears to have limited whether they can all go after each other. The effect is that certain parties are protected that shouldn't be, and defendants that should be fighting only for themselves (and against each other) are now fighting together.
This also means that each of the defendants' interests are now in line with each other, which can be good and bad. Good because it will likely result in a quicker settlement, but bad because Moore won't be able to have a judgment pinned on any single entity. The agreement may also include some sort of share-of-the-penalty clause, which dictates who pay what percentage of the final amount.
In any case, the judge is going to want to know exactly what they agreed so he can determine how it will affect Moore's rights.

I wasn't arguing against the Joe (I love when we play there). I was only speculating as to why we may have struggled with MSU in the first place. Scary stuff.
P.s. I definitely almost heart-attacked when MSU hit post number 3? 4? Couldn't take it anymore.
|4 years 14 weeks ago||I finally made it to a game.||
I finally made it to a game. I live in VA, so this was a huge deal to me. So glad we won...and a great game at that.
My two cents:
First, it sucks that our home-and-home is actually home-and-neutral. There were a ton of MSU fans at the game. It was really hard to tell who had better support. Never a good thing when you already lost on Friday.
Second, we missed a lot of passes. Ironically, we had some beautiful passes that set up great chances and at least one goal. But notice that our game-winning OT goal was off of a BAD MSU back-ice blunder. So many times during the game we failed to connect simple passes. What's really weird is that the majority of the passes were on target, but were mishandled by the recipient. This not only minimized our offensive potential (by turning the puck over in the MSU zone), but also seriously hurt our defense. Those multi-minute-long attack sequences by MSU were drastically extended by multiple failures to connect passes.
All negativity aside, it was nice to be home. And an ugly win is still a win. I just hope we work these kinks out before playoffs.
