I'VE HAD JUST ABOUT ENOUGH OF YOU SONNY
|3 days 13 hours ago||Yes we did go toe to toe with OSU||
But we lost (at home no less). In the end, victories (not of the moral variety) matter.
|3 days 14 hours ago||I may be in the minority here.||
But the fact that Borges plays are often predictable makes be think that we should have gone for the PAT and see what we could do in OT.
|3 days 14 hours ago||Just as an FYI||
Meyer will likely have more talent and experience most years he plays us.
|3 days 14 hours ago||No||
You are supposed to play well against your main rival at home. And I'm glad hoke and co how to do that at least. But there was just too much ineptitude before that game to change any expectations.

Simply put: their fans are asshats. They have lots of shitty fans, and lots of good ones who don't police the shitty ones. It makes for an unpleasant experience going to that wretched hive of scum and villainy.

But he's a big OSU fan (he's originally from Cleveland). This year I told him I couldn't take him because he will wear red. He got kinda pissed. After the travesty I saw at Michigan stadium in the 2009 OSU game, I vowed to help ensure it never happens again, even if means that I get disowned by my family.
|1 week 4 days ago||I used to like Hoke||
But he might be even more unlikeable than RR now. His teams play so soft.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||I like your support of Hoke||
But you are so unobjective about what's going on. You pick a lot of non-sequiturs to justify this team performance. You'd make a great politician.

Because only "Michigan Men" aim to achieve that standard of excellence
|3 weeks 3 days ago||If I were Hoke...||
...I would just concentrate from here on out on preparing for that OSU game. No need to spend much time preparing for NW or Iowa - those games don't really mean too much at this point. 90% of practice until the end of November should be on prepping for the OSU game.

|6 weeks 13 hours ago||It's a perfectly legit feeling||
Given the fact that we haven't played well the past couple seasons and are potentially trending in the wrong directions. I understand that we need some time for our kick ass recruits to develop and Hoke to implement his system, but beyond his recruiting skills he hasn't shown us much to indicate he is an elite coach destine to meet the expectations of the program. Doesn't mean he won't, though.

Tickets for this game are going to be expensive regardless. Dynamic pricing just allows for the University to collect most of the profit as oppose to scalpers. And from what I have heard, these are still cheaper than StubHub.
The people this hurts the most are people like you, who want to buy the tickets at face and actually go to the game (not sell the tickets). But, word from the inside (whether true or not), was that the majority of major game tickets bought through Mgoblue.com at face were resold at helfty profits.

Howeva, if this kid was smart, he would have named it after a disease that was easy to beat, like the flu or something. |26 weeks 13 hours ago||Yea, I agree.||
Having a better overall record with some big bowl wins could mitigate a lackluster OSU performance, but overall let me ask you this. Would you rather have:
1. Lackluster 3-4 loss seasons, but beating OSU on a regular basis (beating OSU in Columbus from time to time, and not losing to them in AA)
2. Great 1-2 loss seasons (maybe a BCS bowl), but losing to OSU on regular basis.
At this point I would rather have #1. We have dug ourselves into hole with OSU over the past decade. They are on the upswing again and if we can't hold our ground, I don't know if I could handle another run they had in the 2000s. We have the talent, and BH "gets it", so if he cannot at least hold home field with OSU, then I think we should begin to look elsewhere. It would be a hard decision, but we have to set a standard and expectation. If a person cannot live up to that expectation, then we need someone who can. No one person is above this expectation.
|26 weeks 17 hours ago||Great column!||
I would like to underscore how important this year is in determining the fate of BH as coach at Michigan. And I think this will largely be based on how we do against OSU this year. Hoke was playing with house money last year, but if we lose to OSU this year, things could start to look grim for BH. If we look ahead to 2014, that OSU team will be absolutely stacked. Let's assume we lose to them in Columbus in 2014 for arguments sake. So, what we will have is after 4 years of Hoke, only one win against OSU (one of the worst OSU team in most people's lifetimes) and likely no B10 championships. Based on Hoke's own expectations, he would clearly be failing as Michigan's head coach and have no house money to play with. He would therefore, need to knock it out of the park in 2015. Pressure will be on.
So, that's why this year (in particular our performance against OSU) will be the determining factor is deciding if Hoke is the next Bo, or Hoke is the next Weis.

...with the no politics rule, but here it goes. This is probably a good move for Obama. Many studies suggest that many to most people don't really vote on the issues at hand. This was especially true during the past 2 elections. Instead, they vote on who they like best. As a proud Libertarian, I don't agree with most of Obama's policies (or a Republican's for that matter), but I can definitely say he has a very likeable personality.
Doing these brakets only ups this quotient.
|37 weeks 1 day ago||No||
"And if you're really feel worse about losing to App State than you feel good about winning the only National Championship in most of our lifetimes, and would trade one for the other, your priorities are really skewed."
This is not what I said. I said losing record against OSU AND losing to ASU trump the NC (not just losing to ASU alone like your statement alludes to). I may be in the minority, but I would trade the NC for a recent winning record against OSU and not losing to ASU. We as Michigan fans all know how we like to categorize the NC as "mythical" and that our goal is winning the B10 first and foremost. And because of our recent record against OSU and that damn ASU game we are a laughing stock to our rivals, and using the "well, we won the NC 16 years ago" meme doesn't do a lick anymore to mitigate that.
LC did some great things off the field, but probably no different than most coaches. But on the field, he did less with more, was too loyal to a fault, couldn't beat his main rival consistent basis. He was a good (not great or elite coach) at best.
|37 weeks 1 day ago||Wait?! What?||
The NC was sweet no doubt, but I don't think it trumps having a losing record against OSU or that ASU loss. Bo never won a NC, but he kept us respectable. LC eventually made us look like fools.
|37 weeks 2 days ago||What?!||
Having a losing a record against OSU (especially in the manner Lloyd accomplished this) and being responsible for the most embarrassing loss in school history is enough trump the 1/2 NC we got in 1997 (with someone else's recruits mind you)

Based on the anecdotes of many former veteran posters on this board, its seems that this is not the case (in fact quite the opposite) and that this is somewhat of an oversight that can be fixed. Still no need to through around the word discriminate in this case.
Before I forget, for those who have served this country, thanks a ton. Always appreciated.
|40 weeks 6 days ago||Agreed!||
I have this conversation about this with many others, and there is a lot of interesting factoids (unverified):
1. College enrollment has only gone up about 7% (as % of the population) over the past ~50 years.
2. Its much easier to get access to private (i.e. scholarships) or public funds (i.e. student loans) these days. It took me about 30 minutes to get my grad school loan to Michigan.
2. College tuition as % of per capita GDP has stayed pretty steady. HOWEVA, not for big brand schools.
The laws of demand are in full affect for big brand schools, but the supply for available schools are increasing. Therefore, college is fully available at a reasonable cost, you just have to go to somewhere other than the Michigans of the world.
|40 weeks 6 days ago||This sucks for him...||
...but did he really need to flash the "discrimination" card. Seems fairly isolated and correctable. Next up, Michigan "discriminates" against sub-3.0 GPA, no national honor society member, JV sports playing, couldn't find a date for prom high school senior.
I can just see it in front of the Michigan Union:
Rally Leader: "WHAT DO WE WANT?!"
Rally: "EQUALITY FOR AVERAGE STUDENTS!"
Rally Leader: "WHEN DO WE WANT IT?!"
|40 weeks 6 days ago||Relax...||
...Robo's comment is perfectly justifiable by the way you wrote your post.
|41 weeks 5 days ago||Yea. Agreed!||
The world can't afford to lose any more chelating agents.
|42 weeks 2 days ago||On your No.3 point||
Background, history, etc should have no impact or bearing on present day discrimination. Presenting an Irsh person as a short red-haired rapscallion in a green suit is flat out racist and VERY offensive to a lot of Irish. But what you are saying is because they were only partially discriminated (NINA for example), that they are just going to have to sit back and deal with it.
Discrimination is discrimination and should be equally intolerable regardless of history.
|42 weeks 4 days ago||We had one against ND about 7 years ago||
Granted it was in the NIT, but the game was in Crisler and was pretty awesome.
|43 weeks 14 hours ago||Wow||
I'm half way around the world and just checking in on NSD. Ohio just fucking killed it. We're fucked!
|44 weeks 17 hours ago||At least he won his bowl||
We probably shouldn't be talking...at least not his year.
|44 weeks 19 hours ago||Kevin Bacon||
|44 weeks 2 days ago||Ok it doesn't really matter who said this...||
...but his argument is pretty idiotic. He states the reason is that college players are not represented by a union and are not heavily compensated. Well, NFL players are and they still coming down with football related hit injuries. Unions and money have nothing to do with it.
|45 weeks 3 days ago||Yea. JH is kinda of dick...||
...but his good qualities far outweigh the bad, and I think he would run a clean program.
|45 weeks 6 days ago||How can Minny...||

...the Iowa head coach doing that freak out he just had. That was hilarious.
|47 weeks 6 days ago||Question?||
So you think we are at the point where we can challenge our main objective of winning the B10? I say this because it gives me pause that our objective is to win the B10, and not necessarily the NC. Don't get me wrong, winning the B10 is an achievement, but its not even close compared to a NC. You can't tell me that you wouldn't be disappointed in a season that we lost all our non-conference games, but won the B10.
Times have changed and Bo's mantra of winning B10 championships as our main goal should be put to rest. This is Michigan fergodsakes, he should be shooting for NCs. Plain and simple.
|47 weeks 6 days ago||Oh Really?||
From the story that he told (and perhaps I missed something in the thread), there was no indication that race played a role in in the restaurant's decision to not seat them. It was assumed that because the white people got what they wanted (they got to sit and eat) and the non-white people didn't (the restaurant turned them away), then racial profiling was probably the reason for this. Without understanding the full context of the situation, these untelligent assumptions do nothing but harm to the already shaky relationships between people of all races.
What's more, I think it can be construed that he racially profiled the white people.
|47 weeks 6 days ago||Omg.||
I know he's on our team, but that was hilarious.
|47 weeks 6 days ago||Currently at the game...||
...and I can safely say there are more M than NW fans. Although it is till break for NE students.
|47 weeks 6 days ago||I'm currently at the game...||
....and we are dominating the cheers here. And I would honestly say that it's mostly M fans.
|47 weeks 6 days ago||Well...||
...you did use that card. And based on your story, you had no real basis to do so. Why, just why?
|48 weeks 13 hours ago||8-4||
Unfortunately, one of those loses will be to to OSU in the big house. Hoke's seat starts to get toasty.

1. Michigan vs EMU
|49 weeks 6 days ago||Is it just me...||
...but does McGary remind you of Graham Brown...just a little?
|49 weeks 6 days ago||Vogrich||
Jeebus! Has he fallen on the depth chart. I remember when Illinois wanted him bad and I thought it was such a coup when we got him. He was the sporting news shooter of the year and like one of the best players in the state of Illinois. Apparently he went the way of Gavin Gronginger.
|49 weeks 6 days ago||Unless you've haven't seen...||
...Blades of Glory, then mind bottling makes perfect sense.
|49 weeks 6 days ago||They have something like 39 varsity sports||
We have 27. And most schools are in ~20 range. This leads OSU to lower (if any) profit. Profit (and risk) drive value in DCF model, which I'm sure Forbes uses some derivation thereof to determine their rankings.
|49 weeks 6 days ago||So yea...||
...making list is not an exact science, but it seems like an OK list to me. If I was to put Denard on the list is would be towards the back. He certainly WAS exciting in previous years, but this year he has been fairly absent in this category (with a few exceptions). In fact, he probably has had more bone-headed plays than exciting plays. With that, I hope to see Denard very little at QB in the bowl game because, to be quite frank, he does not put us in the best position to win.
|50 weeks 19 hours ago||But Hoke's status...||
...as a good coach or not, at least by Michigan standards, has yet to be determined.
|50 weeks 19 hours ago||I wish...||
...I had a krytonite cross, so I can keep both Superman and Dracula away.
|50 weeks 19 hours ago||Its funny...||
...cuz its true.
But to calibrate this thought, generally speaking, Ohio fans were more afraid of what RR could do than what Hoke will do. So yea, they isn't smart.
|50 weeks 3 days ago||Correction||
"Correction: Craig James only killed TWO hookers"
|50 weeks 5 days ago||Did you just say...||
|50 weeks 6 days ago||What would add more value to this...||
....is knowing the amount of varsity athletic programs it subsidizes. That way you can tell what you are spending and making on a per team basis. See below (best performers bolded):
Team: #of teams, Rev/team, Exp/team, Profit/team
Texas: 20 teams, $5.2M, $1.3M, $3.9M
Michigan: 27 teams, $3.2M, $0.9M, $2.3M
Georgia: 19 teams, $3.9M, $1.2M, $2.8M
Florida: 19 teams, $3.9M, $1.2M, $2.7M
Alabama: 21 teams, $3.9M, $1.8M, $2.1M
LSU: 14 teams, $4.9M, $1.7M, $3.2
Auburn: 19 teams, $4.1M, $1.8M, $2.3M
Notre Dame: 23 teams, $3.0M, $1.1M, $1.9M
Arkansas: 19 teams, $3.4M, $1.3M, $2.1M
Nebrasksa: 21 teams, $2.6M, $1.0M, $1.7M
For good measure, OSU: 39 teams! This actually explains a lot.
|51 weeks 1 day ago||Even in high school...||
...Hoke didn't wear a headset. What the hell!
|51 weeks 2 days ago||I was mostly being sarcastic...||
...but to address your point (and without making this an RR diatribe), Denard was a serious Heisman candidate in 2010. I believe he was the front runner for a few weeks.
|51 weeks 2 days ago||I'm surprised noone has brought up Borges...||
...who will single-handedly ruin DG Heisman campaign by week 3.
If he can't make Denard a serious Heisman candidate, I doubt he will for Gardner.
|51 weeks 5 days ago||Come to Penn State!||
Oh wait. Wrong video :(
|51 weeks 5 days ago||Why does...||
...Brady Hoke and Urban Meyer look the same as they would without the special effects?
|52 weeks 16 hours ago||Ding ding!||
Was my hint that obvious? :)
|1 year 5 hours ago||This has nothing to do with RR or any previous coach...||
...and everything to do with unrealized expecations.
As a point of reference, who am I?:
I took over coaching a well known and tradition-laden college football program after the previous coach whose underwhelming recruiting and coaching got him fired after 3 years. In my first 2 years at the helm, I compiled a 19-6 record, including 2 BCS berths and a national coach of the year award. My next 3 years I went, 3-9, 7-6, and 6-6. I was then fired. Who am I? (hint: I have a FUPA)
Again, I will reiterate. This has absolutely nothing to do with RR and I never once mentioned it in my post. Hoke has done well thus far (although this season was not great by any means), but he far from meeting expectations of this program, and we should probably wait until he hopefully does so before we determine if it was a good hire.
