The listed capacity would shoot up next year with the completion of the boxes to around 110,000 or 111,000, except they are planning to widen the aisles and seats to some extent. They won't be doing as much widening because of the lawsuit, which already took up a lot of space, but they're going to figure out how much they can do to keep the stadium's listed capacity at about 108,000.
That's only an increase of about 500, but the existing seats will be roomier. So they say.

|4 years 40 weeks ago||Well, I don't think anyone||
Well, I don't think anyone genuinely expects Forcier to be Jesus. It's a joke.
Realistically, he's likely to complete about half his passes, throw about as many interceptions as touchdowns, and only run for maybe 300-400 yards on the season. He's a freshman, and Devin Gardner will be a freshman in 2010, so I don't think people will expect him to be better, especially with his lack of polish as a passer.
Unless Denard's way more poised as a thrower than we think, I think we're going to see at least two years of Tate with sprinklings of Denard as a change of pace. After that, Gardner's greater physical upside might allow him to contend for the job (his RS freshman/ true sophomore year, Tate's junior year) but more likely Tate and Denard rule the roost for four years.
|4 years 41 weeks ago||Good point, although I think||
Good point, although I think the Caps ownership is confident the existing glut of young defensemen will mature to provide that physicality on the backend.
Milan Jurcina and Jeff Schultz both improved by leaps and bounds last season. They might very well take another big leap forward. And then there's our #1 pick from last year, John Carlson, who's only 19 1/2 now but at 6'2"/205 is already poised to make the depth chart as a big hitter.
Besides them, I expect the Caps to make a deal. They have Karl Alzner and John Erskine, both solid young defenders, as well as Shaone Morrison, and these guys can't all fit into the top 6. I think they'll deal a young defender, a draft pick and one of their two prospect goalies besides Varlamov and try to pick up an established big man on the blueline.

I'm a big Caps fan, and although I initially agreed that Morrison doesn't have anything left in the tank, I still think it's a smart move for the Caps. They're going to be losing some veterans players, having lost Kozlov and Fedorov to Russia, and there's a good chance Theodore and Nylander will be gone too.
A one-year, $1.5 million deal with Morrison is almost nothing, and it's a price I'd gladly pay for some leadership. If he can produce at his previous level, all the better.
And I'm straight-up excited about getting Knuble. I expect him to play on our top line with Ovechkin and Backstrom. He'll definitely help that line by providing some forechecking and a physical presence near the net.

No, the Nats will sign him. They've been running a tight budget the last few years and because they haven't made any big acquisitions except Adam Dunn, they have the money. The only way this deal doesn't go through is if Strasburg nixes it, and let's face it, he'll probably be the ace of an NL team in a big city from day one. Pretty sweet deal when you'll get the kind of money he will. The Nationals would have passed on him if they didn't think they'd be able to sign him ... and remember whoever passed on Prior back in the '01 draft did exactly that.

|5 years 11 weeks ago||I think Threet WILL start at||
I think Threet WILL start at the start of the season. He was placed in an awful situation and simply wasn't that bad. He was a pocket passer in a spread offense, with one returning wide receiver and one returning lineman, and yet he had a 100-plus passer rating, a 50-plus completion percentage and more touchdowns than interceptions on the season.
How often did Threet get to sit in the pocket and find a receiver? Practically never. Watch Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy or Graham Harrell and you'll understand why they put up record numbers — they had great protection.
On top of that, Threet injured both elbows, which clearly had a negative effect on his play down the stretch. This year, the receivers and linemen can only be better, barring epic crises, and Threet will have another year of experience in the system.
He'll clearly be preferable to a freshman, at least at first. I agree that Denard will likely get sprinkled in at some points, as long as his passing is decent enough to provide a threat. (not like Feagin) Forcier could take Threet's job as the season goes on, but IMHO, it's Threet's job to lose.
I wouldn't be surprised, though, if either Forcier or Denard ultimately gets redshirted. That way we'd have one QB who's at least decent in three straight graduating classes.

You do RC, IIRC.
Carrier routinely placed high on lists of the dirtiest players in the NFL.
|5 years 13 weeks ago||Well, we are fairly small||
Well, we are fairly small this year, mainly because our size consists exclusively of:
A. DeShawn Sims, who while pretty solid as an offensive post presence, thinks "defense" is the thing that surrounds your backyard.
The point here is that we have no big man in the middle to block shots and keep other teams from crashing the lane. Ekpe Udoh did that for us, but then he transferred to Baylor. I wasn't a huge fan, but in many games this season I've been wishing we had Udoh in at the 5. Guy could block shots.
Ben Cronin had the size, at 7'1" and 265, but he was a freshman, and a freshman with a hip-injury at that, and needs more coaching to play a little tougher down low anyway. So the redshirt was clearly a good idea.
Next year, hopefully Cronin will be healed and in better shape. He almost certainly won't be a monster, but he'll help. We do have two big men coming in as freshmen — Jordan Morgan and Blake McLimans. McLimans will probably be more like a 3-point-shooting Gibson than Cronin or Udoh, but Morgan could be another big body in the lane.
Really, let's hope Cronin works out. With Sims and Gibson graduating in 2010, it'll be a position of need. Between the new practice facility and the team's rising stock, I'm sure Beilein will manage to attract someone to play the post.
Sorry for the rambling everybody. Hopefully I saved Promote Richrod some time.

Unlikely, at least to start the season, but don't be surprised if we have a freshman at the top of the depth chart by the end of the season. As disappointing as Stevie B. has been, he definitely played well at times. Safety's a high-risk position and it's hard to imagine the coaches feeling a freshman would be less likely to make big mistakes.
Warren and Cissoko are obvious starters at corner. Woolfolk will almost definitely be next in line, and Turner after that.

Via free media:
LIVONIA — Two weeks ago, junior Brandon Graham was walking toward the Michigan football buses outside Ohio Stadium after the Wolverines' 42-7 loss to the Buckeyes. He stopped to talk with director of strength and conditioning Mike Barwis.
The defensive end told Barwis he was excited to see what type of leader he would be next year.
Graham has already received a sign of respect from his teammates, who elected him the Bo Schembechler Most Valuable Player. The award was presented Thursday night at the 88th annual Michigan Football Bust at Laurel Manor in Livonia.
“I didn't see this one coming,” said Graham, who some have speculated might forego his senior season to enter the NFL Draft. “I didn't think I was going to be up here until next year."
Although Graham could change his mind and declare for the draft before the Jan. 15 deadline, he said he plans to return next year.
“We're going to fight even harder for next year," Graham said. “I'm going to be your all leader, man. You just have to follow me, and we're going to make it happen."

The difference: with Threet and Forcier looking like the best QB options for the next season at least, RR will have (please, let him have it) an offense that can threaten opponents downfield. WVU's offense simply doesn't do that.
Clearly, the problem with RR's offense at WVU has been that when Pat White is hurt, or when the running game isn't working, the team is out of luck. Hopefully, being able to recruit better players for the passing game will allow him to add that passing dimension. We'll know in 2010.

He had no good quarterback. Next year, he'll have a real option in Russell Shepard. As a Michigan fan, this explanation should be quite obvious.

Didn't you call him a fruitbat at one point? At the time, I thought you were being a little mean but this kid seems absolutely crazy. You know, Alex-Legion-crazy.

MVP is clearly Brandon Graham, IMHO.
Also, we don't really do the whole junior captain thing, so I don't think Ezeh's so likely... I'd say your first four candidates are the likely ones, and if Graham leaves, the remaining three.

I've heard *very* strong indications that he currently intends to return. Can't say how, but they come on good authority. Then again, he hasn't gotten all the pitches yet, and who knows how he'll react when he's being offered $10 million? As for now, from what I hear, he wants to be a leader on next year's team.
|5 years 22 weeks ago||Actually..||
Actually, the athletic department fudges the numbers. Always has. They apparently can't tally attendance at the turnstiles, so their calculations comprise the following:
TICKETS SOLD + OTHERS (players, media, bands, vendors, ushers)
So, the Toledo and Miami games had the lowest attendance, because those were the ones where the Athletic Department couldn't sell off the remaining single-game tickets. The Northwestern game was technically sold out, except that there were about 15 Northwestern fans in the whole visiting section, and methinks the Athletic Department couldn't manage to convince fans to buy tickets at the last minute to see 3-7 Michigan play Northwestern.
There were not 106,000 people at the Northwestern game. Hell, I doubt there were 100,000. Maybe not even 95,000. But the Athletic Department counted every ticket sold and unused into the "attendance."

Like Chet Steadman, the basketball team dealt from their have-to tonight.

Except we have to play UCLA and, if we win that game, probably Duke. I don't think we'd win either, let alone both.

That's some American optimism right there. Like Rich Rod himself, Michigan football will pull itself up by the bootstraps and by gum, it'll make something of itself. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

That's a bit of a stretch. His ankles must be made of toothpicks, because receivers have broken them repeatedly. I noted two instances in the Miami game where Brown fell down untouched and ended up sitting on his ass as the receiver moved downfield. His performance has not been 'The Horror' catastrophic but he still has a long, long way to come because my heart skips a beat every time a ball sails in his direction.

He can't possibly be the biggest bust, at least in recent memory. That title belongs firmly to Marques Slocum, who apparently traded three stars of recruiting value for a Fuck Lion.

I'm *still* optimistic about the ND game, especially because their offensive line is going from "the worst in recent memory" to "the worst in recent memory + 25 pounds of pizza fat."

Why do YOU think SARCASM is the right APPROACH? PLATITUDES and CLICHES can propel any TEAM to VICTORY. In my MIND Mr. MAIZEnblue is a CHAMPION for MAKING a bold STATEMENT no one else DARED to MAKE!!!
I'll be watching our MEN win on SATURDAY from my SEAT under the PRESS box. HOWEVA, I will be SITTING QUIETLY so I don't DISTRACT our players from the TASK at HAND: being CHAMPIONS!

Does that interviewer (ESPN's Darren Lyn) remind anyone else of Lloyd from Entourage? RichRod should have gone Ari Gold on him for asking such stupid questions...
