Having been in the business, this stuff does matter to coaches and athletes, abeit to different levels. Jim Harbaugh has been a "Nike guy" his entire career, wearing Nike cleats as an athlete and even wearing cleats as a coach. So, advanatage Nike.
But this is ultimately Jim Hackett's decision, it's in his job description to worry about this stuff. I would expect nothing but a thorough, well-considered decision by Hackett seeing how he handled the coaching search. If it's not just about the highest monetary bid, I do expect Michigan to go back to Nike since they would bring the best package possible among the main players.

i wouldn't say 90%, but market reports show nike is still the dominant brand.
|1 year 11 weeks ago||You're contradicting youself.||
You're contradicting youself. First you say that shoe companies impact ingrecruting is false. now you say that it is a factor. No one is arguing that every recruit's decision is solely based on the shoe company.
Let's set aside the major football powers for now. Other college football programs without large budgets and product-only contracts with Nike still align themselves with Nike because of Nike's strong brand influence. in their recruiting pitch, they do play up the fact that they have nike prouducts. The major football powers will have other factors like facilities, education, tradition that should trump the logo on the shoe, but for some recruits, it's still a factor.
Another aspect that is not being discussed is that these shoe companies can help build the school brand. Oregon would not be where they are without Nike's help. Notre dame jumped to under armour with the expectation that UA will help market/build/maintain their brand. With a program like Michigan with so much tradition, we may not think much help is needed, but with so much competition, every little bit helps.
We want the University of Michigan football program to be sucessful, so for me the question isn't what logo do I want to wear for me, but what associations should Michigan make to bring the highest chance of success? Every detail matters.

Here are ar the stats from last year:
Looks like you have a decent shot.
My time was too long ago to be relevant, but do make sure that you have a plan for how to repay the out-of-state tuition costs, like getting a degree in readily employable major like someone else mentioned. You don't want to be in $100,000 in debt without a job, no matter how much you love Michigan. Don't forget it's an economic decision as well.
With your success in academics, you can also consider Michigan as a graduate school option. Yes, it delays gratification, but you can get assistanceships (teaching, research) that makes it much more afforable for out of state students. Grants, loans, and scholarships got me through undergrad at Michigan, but research assisantship paid for my grad school.
I'm not trying to talk you out of your dream of reaching Michigan, just trying to show that there are other routes.

|1 year 14 weeks ago||Michigan's switch to Adidas||
Michigan's switch to Adidas in 2007 wasn't because of money as Nike was willing to match the dollar offer. Adi made concessions that Nike wouldn't, which tilted Michigan towards Adi. The sports marketing climate was also different back then which motivated Adi to take a major team from Nike, and Michigan was it. The climate will obviously be different when the current contract is up and this ND-UA deal will definitely have an influence.

This probably means that Michigan will go with Nike or Adi, with UA not being an option in 2016. Notre Dame wouldn't let Michigan one-up them again. The rivalry continues off the field...

Kids are entitled to be kids without Internet strangers' criticisms. Having said that, there are some incredibly mature 17 year olds who already have a head start into being productive, respectful adults - Austin Hatch and Michael Ferns to name two. Let's celebrate these guys and the bright futures for them and Michigan. Nothing productive cones out of criticizing other kids on the interwebs.

if you call me a liar, it does not affect my integrity one bit. you are confusing integrity and reputation. i would hope that the way I live my life can allow my reputation to withstand false accusations of being a liar.
i am raising my kids to put off immediate gratification to do the right thing. also to treat others like how they would like to be treated - think of conseuqences of actions. to answer your question, if my kid was offered $100-$200K to act unethical/illegal, i would point out the consequences of taking the money. and i love my kids too much not to do what i can to prevent them from making such a huge mistake.

i don't think you understand integrity. integrity is something that can only be compromised by you - no one outside of you can "kill" it.
As long as guys like coach Beilein is running the program with integrity, Michigan doesn't need Chris Webber. the program is on the upswing and it doesn't need the Fab Five memories to keep moving forward. Don't fix what has been repaired.

I had a chance to chat with him last summer when his list included the likes of Stanford and Cal. Academics and career opportunities were the most important factor for him. He was talking about looking for internship opportunities that would lead to a job in the tech sector while in school. He walked the talk by selecting the most highly regarded academic institution in the B1G. I wonder if he was ever shown the Michigan North Campus if he visited Ann Arbor. Best wishes to a quality young man.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||i wouldn't get so worked up||
i wouldn't get so worked up about being "back." Michigan players have been quoted as being "back" while Hoke wouldn't.
If Michigan being back means having a punishing defense, it's still two recruiting classes away from having that type of talent and depth.
If Michigan being back means having a power offense, it's still two seasons away from implementing it with Gardner/Morris. (Borges did call the 2011 offense a "makeshift" offense.)
If Michigan being back means winning the Big Ten, it hasn't been back since 2004.
I say just win. Beat the teams that are inferior, put Sparty back into their place, beat rivals more often than not, and beat some national powers. Michigan is definitely moving in the right direction and it's fun again... and back to the norm again.

Who said this and in what year?
“The schedule is too tough for them to have a great year. In college football, you’ve got to have margin of error in there…You have to be able to have an off week.”
“Michigan has no chance to have a great football season, in my opinion. They play too many good teams that are as good or better than they are, and a lot of them away from home. That makes it more difficult. They can stumble and be a really fine football team, losing three games at least.”
|3 years 16 weeks ago||posted from iPhone||
Or they can be like Boise State by playing one or two tough games a year resulting in 10 or 11 win seasons. But unlike Boise State, they have a clear method of entry into the BCS bowls.

Bride is under center with 2 bridesmaids in the backfield in Pro formation and 2 split out left and right. My favorite picture of all time and always a conversation starter.

i attended the "weigh in" portion of "The Opening" today just for a part of it. This is where each athlete was introduced. For the part I attended, T-Rich, Ross, and Standifer were introduced. Only ~5% of all athletes wore hats of their school, but all three of these guys had michigan hats on. I shouted "Go Blue" after their intro to show them some Michigan love.
When they were dismissed, T-Rich and Ross came over to shake my hand and said that they appreciated the shout out. Magnuson shouted "nice shirt!" as he walked by (I wore my Michigan polo today).
I'm reporting this not to put the focus on me, rather the amount of Michigan love these guys have going into their senior season. I will attend more of this event and share what I can.

It is typically a concern when any working person switches jobs every couple years. If you look at Borges' resume, he has bounced from school to school. He's had successful offenses before, so why has he jumped around so much? I have no knowledge of his personality and interpersonal skills. But if he's lacking in that depatment, he just may not be head coach material. Being a head coach is so much more than X's and O's.
