The NCAA should also have regional offices around the country (much like the regional university accrediting body system) for all matters that come under their jurisdiction. |

| 33 weeks 3 days ago | "Wind knocked out" |
I am sure that many who read MGOBLOG have had the wind knocked out of them at some point in life. Having had this occur several times in my existance, it is an uncomfortable, scary state to be in. As I recall these events I can clearly state at no time during any incident did I lay completely motionless for 30 seconds or more. You are trying to sit up and stuggling to take air in and laying face down motionless on someone else while having a real-life "flight or fight" reaction is not believable. I think Brian was appropriate in calling out anyone on MSU's sideline who had the authority to hold Gholston out, given what is going on with retired vets in the NFL who can't remember their name most days. The B10 office should investigate this occurrance. You can tell when Gholston stood up there was somethiing more happening than losing his breath. |

I am glad that Notre Dame did this since it reveals who they really are. Notre Dame is in every football relationship for themselves only. They have used the Big Ten by scheduling M, MSU, Purdue and other B10 universities every year, especially allowing their alumni to dictate to their administration to not join the B10 when invited a decade ago. They have used the Big East by having all other sports be a member of this slowly dying league while football has remained an independent. Now they have signed into a relationship with the ACC where all sports (exluding football, hockey and one other) will be full members and football will schedule five ACC schools per year, while the IRish get to continue playing on NBC and rake in big bucks. The ACC from a football standpoint will not be recognized as a super power when mega-conference realignment comes down the road. Notre Dame has always acted arrogant, superior and like the only child that has never had to share with a sibling. Bo had it correct... to hell with them. |

team speed to compete at flag football. Speed makes up for mistakes that can happen in defensing run and pass plays. On defense, force the opposing QB to run in the center of the field rather than giving up the edge. Study who are the athletes on the other team in trying to defense them. good strategies for offense are offered above. Good luck. |

I was taking a graduate of the program I direct out to lunch and was listening to ESPN Radio on the way to the restaurant. At approximately 11:45 a.m. Colin Cowherd told me that Bo had entered the eternal big house. I could feel my body tense then sag and found it very hard to normally breathe. You can presume someones passing but you are never able to anticipate the loss and feeling of remorse you feel when a giant succumbs and leaves your world much smaller. I thought of poor Don Shane and how he must have felt since Bo had his last cardiac event at the WXYZ studio where he was going to film the Big Ten Ticket show. I don't hold the news I received from Cowherd against him but I found it ironic that a pedestrian radio show host who had repeated for years that Michgan was no longer on college football's stage of major programs told me that the man who put us there was no longer with us. The simplest contradictions in life are always the most confounding. |

the first time this has happened with a major news organization jumping the gun on someones passing. I remember when the late Frank Reynolds from ABC announced former press secretary James Brady's death the day of President Reagan's assassination attempt. Reynolds bellowed on air "we are paid to get the story right!". I believe NBC jumped the gun on Joe DiMaggio's death. It has been said that Joltin Joe was lucid enough the have watched that report. The media also camped outside Jackie Onassis' apartment awaiting her end with some premature reports coming there as well. I just wish the media- all media- would let an official announcement come out first on the death of a famous individual. The dying person's famuly is at least due that courtesy.

I heard this from a Hokie fan this morning- "Michigan was out played. Virginia Tech was out coached." Having been a Michigan fan since 1968, I know there have been dozens of games that we "should" have won but did not. I also know that calls have gone against us in every bowl game we have played in that have resulted in an undesired final score. I can list some of them here but Wolverine fans know what games I would list. It's part of life's difficult lesson- everything isn't fair and works out the way you want it to. Saveferris is correct in his post above; Coach Beamer is first class all day and all night. VT football has been lucky to have had that man on board for as long as they have. |
