|3 weeks 18 hours ago||Good question. I have kept my||
Good question. I have kept my tix since I graduated in 1998 and have spent 10 of the last 15 years living in either North Carolina or Los Angeles. I have come back for 2-3 big games each year and given/sold the balance to friends/family. I am now in Chicago and have been considering giving up my season tix as I am now able to still go to the big game(s) every year mixed in with various away games (last year ND & Alabama, this year NW) which I find very enjoyable as well.
For me the consideration to relinquish my tix are based on three things: 1. My new proximity to away games which are actually on average as close or closer than AA. 2. The absurd explosion of ticket prices/PSL. 3. 2014 home schedule (how Brandon allowed MSU to host us in 2014 over his dead body is beyond ridiculous)
My decision has not been affected whatsoever since our win over ND. I generally only care to go to our home opener + ND/other decent OOC game + MSU/PSU/Ohio. So I just do not see a reason to continue to write a check for $1,000-1,500 every April for 2-3 games each year then go through the hassle to unload the other 4-5 games every fall. I'd prefer to pony up $50 for the opener, $200-250 for a big game home ticket then catch a game or two at Purdue/IU/Iowa/Illinois/Wisky/NW/etc. every fall.
So while I may be one of those that is "threatening" to give up his 2014 tix after 15 years it is not for the same reasons that are driving this thread.

Running those numbers for every play this season would be very time consuming. But I would be interested to see the mix of run/pass when Funchess used to line up as a TE vs. Williams for the first half dozen games. Gotta be 20/80 & 80/20 respectively.
I also wonder about other teams' tendancies as well, if they would tip their hands with personnel on the field decisions. If I were an OC one of my main goals would be to keep all as close to 50/50, or 60/40 worst case, splits just in case other teams hired Seths to do such time-consuming research.

Good post. Booing is always embarrassing to me whether it's meant for players, coaches, or officials. Booing players/coaches is terrible for the reasons you mentioned. I'm pretty proud of myself regarding the outcome of my first post on this board in quite a while. Only one snarky flamer and one guy that tried to put words into my mouth/post. Other than that not a bad effort.
|9 weeks 1 day ago||yep, it is lazy. What was my||
yep, it is lazy. What was my point about Manning? This is my summary sentence at the end of that paragraph:
"What this does is gives him (Manning) the last play call option against the defense every single time."
Pretty sure NW which is a college program does exactly this every snap. So if NW and MANY other college teams do this then pretty sure Michigan can as well no matter who is the QB. THAT is where my comparison with Manning begins and ends. Really odd that you then take that one point and lazily debunk my entire post by trying to pretend I'm comparing a college QB to everything else that Manning does. Having the option to change a play at the line, that's it. Nothing more, you are wrong :)

LOL, I mentioned Manning because he is the best at what I'm describing and annoys the fuck out of me. Feel free to insert NW in any of my arguments, which you will notice I mentioned more than once. Love the lazy captain obvious issue you have with me daring to mention the best QB in the NFL in my post. You caught me!
|9 weeks 1 day ago||maybe I didn't explain that||
maybe I didn't explain that part properly. My assumption is that when we actually huddle we break from it with about 10 seconds left, line up with 5, and continue to carry out whatever play we called regardless of the defense. If we do not huddle like NW for instance you get right to the line in a particular formation, the defense then has to line up as well. We then have time to either audible from the same set or make a quick set change and run a different play, all based on how the defense is lined up. This is giving us the last option which is a big advantage.
If we had plenty of time to make changes based on information given to us by the defense I could not care less if we actually go through the act of huddling. Of course if we score a TD on every play when we huddle then it wouldn't matter. It's gaining an advantage on the defensive set and having time to actual do something with that information that is my point. And when we huddle that eats up that valuable time.

|12 weeks 2 days ago||Thoughts||
1. The basketball situation was very poorly handled. I completely understand your plight and think Brandon really fucked this one up.
2. The skywriting is absolutely embarrassing and Brandon should do something like match MSU's fundraising efforts to try to save some face.
3. From a football standpoint you will not receive any sympathy from me or seemingly the majority of the alums. I missed one fucking game at Michigan while I was an undergrad and it was for a wedding against my will. I had to deal with multiple 4 loss seasons before being treated to our '97 championship. We actually made the decision to not tailgate for noon games because we looked so forward to each game. The decision to tailgate and lazily stroll into the games in the 2nd Q is justifiably being penalized IMO.
Our OOC schedules have certainly sucked and don't think that season ticket alums such as myself don't hate that shit too. But you reap what you sew and I doubt this is going to change anytime soon.

My disclaimer is that I went to UM for undergrad and Chapel Hill for grad school. I have lived in LA for 6 years. I have visited Austin numerous times. I have never been to the campuses of FSU or UF however my ex went to UF and I did go to the World's Biggest Cocktail Party UF/UGA game a few years ago.
If I were you I would narrow that list down to UCLA and UT right away and not even worry about the two Florida schools.
Austin is probably my favorite city, in fact I almost moved there a few years ago. It's a blue dot in a red state. Great music festivals, good weather 8 months of the year but hot as shit in the summer, beautiful girls, good nightlife. The town can get pretty small fairly quickly if you go out a lot.
UCLA is an amazing school and I actually do like the campus a lot. It's in a great area close to West Hollywood, Brentwood, and not too far from Santa Monica which is fantastic. Traffic sucks, girls are hot, weather is nearly perfect, nightlife off campus is great, cost of living sucks.
You really need to visit both before you make such a big decision, especially since it sounds like you are not getting just a two year degree. I personally would pick UT yesterday but that's me.
Good luck, but IMHO if you are choosing between UT and UCLA you cannot go wrong and will be very happy at either University.

|3 years 12 weeks ago||In my kindergarten picture I||
In my kindergarten picture I am wearing a Michigan t-shirt and missing teeth when I smiled. My uncle that played baseball at Michigan passed away at age 24 from cancer when I was 7. At my first Michigan game when I was 9 my parents had no connections and not a lot of money so we had "bad" seats, row B endzone corner in the old stadium configuration I beliveve. Jim Harbaugh ran up the sideline for a TD and I ran down and slapped him on the helmet in excitement as he ran into the corner. Those turned out to be pretty good seats afterall.
I was the only child in my generation that had a chance at following in my uncle's footsteps and attend Michigan so that was always my absolute goal. So to be perfectly honest I had no choice in the matter than to be a Michigan fan and attend Michigan.
I now live 2,000 miles from Ann Arbor and still pay $1,000 for season tickets every year that I really cannot afford. The only two bar "skirmishes" that I've been in as an adult involved the Michigan/Ball State football game and the Michigan/Boston College Frozen Four game.
I've since earned a graduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and live in Los Angeles. I find myself at times wondering why I didn't apply to UNC or UCLA or UTexas, etc. But at the end of the day I would have never gone anywhere else for undergrad.
That's my story. Congrats on your first child.

Certainly. The following is my opinion of what his future would mean to RR and his staff.
If he transfers to another D1 and succeeds then there is something wrong with the way RR and his stafff manage the players and the program.
If he transfers to another D1 and basically does jack-shit then RR and his staff are doing something right.
If he transfers to a non-D1 it shows that he can't compete or doesn't have the desire to compete at the highest level of college football, and RR and his staff are doing something right.
If he never plays football again then he doens't love football enough to play at the highest level of college football, and RR and his staff couldn't do anything to change it.
Everyone has their opinion, but this would be mine.

The business of college bball is now a dumpster fire lead by the Calipari's of the world and I'm not going to waste my time for the near future.

|3 years 24 weeks ago||Regardless of Udoh and||
Regardless of Udoh and Manny's reasons for leaving I feel that it's the coaches job to manage those two situation for the betterment of the program. Maybe even Izzo loses those two kids, maybe he doesn't. However if we go 10-22 this year those two departures will directly/indirectly be two big reasons why.
I understand that college bball is "as dirty as a dirt sandwich" and that's why I wrote that I'm basically over it. Whether 4/5 star kids visit campus for a free meal or not they aren't jumping in Michigan's boat at this point and I don't see that changing anytime soon and that is all that matters when you keep missing the tournament.
I will of course root for JB and this program but as a big picture guy that sees macro trends this program is really going to struggle for a while whether or not it's JB's fault.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Unfortunately I am now 99% in||
Unfortunately I am now 99% in the 'JB won't get it done at Michigan'
This last season was obviously an absolute train wreck. I don't know the details of Udoh's departure but suffice it to say that might be the beginning of the end for Beilein's tenure in Ann Arbor. Everything that Udoh brings to the court were the most important items lacking (besides shooting of course) last season. With Udoh last season we win at least 5 more games in my opinion. Then there is a better chance that Manny opts to play his senior season than deciding that playing in Italy is a better option.
Couple this with the fact that Izzo just warmed so many hearts by deciding to stay in EL. Izzo has done just about as much to unravel this program in the last 15 years as did Chris Webber. He has been kicking our dicks in for years and now that he has turned down the best opportunity that he will ever get I can't see that changing in the next 15.
The fact that 4/5-star kids basically jump into Izzo's boat and JB has a helluva time getting even a 3-star to come visit one of the nation's best fucking Universities just shows me the putrid state of college bball these days. I for one am pretty much over all of it until I have to fill out my brackets in March.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Well done. That was one of||
Well done. That was one of the more interesting pieces of "content" I've read in a while. A few items that jump out at me:
1. I'm actually going to root for McGuffie this fall. I hope he learned how to take a tackle and doesn't continue to take Ed McCaffrey-esque hits.
2. Witherspoon is probably the saddest item on the list. He was recruited with a lot of hype and it's sad to think that he isn't playing football anymore. Hopefully that means that he is still able to be a student somewhere and finish a degree.
3. Threet starting at ASU? Living on the west coast I'm sure I'll catch a random game or two. I'll definitely take a few minutes to check in on him.
4. Johnny Sears, wow. He put up some great numbers at EMU. I hope he can stick in the NFL.

|3 years 25 weeks ago||My RA Dickey Story||
One of the first girls I dated when I first moved to LA 5 years ago invited me to the Angels' home opener against Texas. It just so happened that her cousin was RA Dickey who was with the Rangers then. I had never heard of the guy but I thought it was an odd coincidence that I also know a guy back in Michigan that has the initials RA with Dickey for a last name.
So after the game she and I and RA went out for steaks and beers in Anaheim. I caught a foul ball that game so I thought it would be cool if he signed it so I have that sitting on my bookshelf right now.
He ended up getting hurt shortly after that and was done for the year. I guess that's when he picked up the knuckleball. He then gave up 6 HRs which tied a MLB record against the Tigers the next year. I figured his career was pretty much over at that point. I also stopped seeing the girl so I lost track of his career.
So I was pretty surprised to turn on the TV and see my Tigers facing a 5-0 RA Dickey tonight.
The last interesting coincidence is that the night at dinner I specifically asked him what he thought of Bonderman as Bondo was a young, up and coming pitcher that year. I remember him saying that Bonderman had nasty stuff and was going to be very good. Who is he up against tonight, Bonderman.
Just thought I'd share.

I haven't seen much of this team this season, but Minney's loss was pretty tough to take/watch. Sooo many chances to put this game out of reach. Don't remember all of the specifics but I recall one shot up the middle hitting the Minney pitcher allowing him to throw a guy out a home which probably cost us two runs. Later we had a chance to get out of the inning when the Minney player rounded third and should have been doubled off second. That allowed them to score their first run.
Good season nonetheless but definitely a frustrating game/season to watch slip away.
I can't possibly imagine a worse overall Michigan sports season than 2009-2010. Here's to a much better 2010-2011.

|3 years 33 weeks ago||I may be in the minority here||
I may be in the minority here but I don't think any kind of statistical analysis of 2008/2009 is relevant for 2010.
2008 is a complete throw away year. We all know that QB play is 90% of RR's system and 2008's two QBs are no longer on the Michigan roster. Therefore 2008 stats are completely meaningless and there is almost no carry-over from that season to 2010 except for a few OL and a WR or two.
2009 has some relevancy for 2010 but the way things are going (Tate not improving apparently and DR improving greatly) I just don't think 2009 is all that relevant to what we should see this fall.
If anything year 3 should improve over the past from an intangibles standpoint. Returning players understand the system better, coaches have a better understanding of what works against which defenses, etc.
Your statistical analysis is great and relevant generally but I think in this case it's not a useful prediction tool for 2010's offensive success.

I will preface my reply by saying that I moved to the Los Angeles area from Farmington Hills 5 years ago.
1. This is the best law to come along recently for any state, any situation, regardless of the circumstances. I will not even argue this with anyone. It's a very emotional topic and no one is going to change their mind after simply discussing it. Over time it will become obvious. You either get it or you don't.
2. I would imagine your opinion of him would change if you lived where I live. A lot of people can't see through his BS but I can. I couldn't care less about how good someone is at putting a ball through a hoop. I'm not 12 anymore so I am over having sports heroes so Kobe means nothing to me, on or off the court.
3. Great movie.

Similar, we used to go booze at Good Time Charley's for their huge Long Island Ice Tea Tuesday nights. Anyway we talked to him a little and he was pretty grounded. Good guy.
|3 years 34 weeks ago||I agree with the board.||
I agree with the board. Westwood is decent but it's a pretty small pond especially in the summer. Santa Monica should be your goal most nights that you go out. The following places are worth checking out.
I'm assuming that you are in undergrad so spots like South, Qs, and Busby's would be decent targets for you. They are also in east Santa Monica towards Brentwood so they would be closer for you.
Wilsire on Wilshire is a good spot.
Father's Office as mentioned below is good.
The Viceroy Hotel pool/cabanas and the Huntley Hotel's Penthouse are higher end spots that can be fun.
Then there are some nice spots in Venice on Main Street and Abbott Kinney that are worth checking out.
Understand that drinks are going to be about twice as expensive as you are used to so trying to find some cheap college nights at the first three places that I mentioned will probably be a priority.
I forgot to add that I agree with the poster that said get/stay in great shape if you plan to go after some serious tail in LA. Having money helps but not everyone has that luxury. However almost everyone is in great shape. I'm 35 and in better shape than I was when I was 25. You really have no choice.
Good luck and have a great time.

Sure coaches can beat into kids' head to not do what Tate did. But in the heat of the moment I don't think a lot of kids really think about what they are doing. What Tate did probably came natural and if you asked him 10 minutes later what he did exactly he probably couldn't even tell you.

That's a great shirt. I remember when we played OSU a year or two ago and they ran the college marketing commercials back to back.
First they showed OSU's commercial. It was just basically a bunch of still shots of OSU fans/alums/whatevers lined up in threes spelling OSU with their arms.
The Michigan commercial came on immediately afterward. I'm sure most of you have seen it. It showed the earth from space. Then slowly Apollo 15 came bending around the horizon and the Victors got louder and louder until it passed by. Then I believe a caption popped up and said "Apollo 15: all Michigan crew".

Justin Turner really seems to be an enigma. I think most of us were hoping that he would come in as a freshman ala Woodson and be serviceable if not an all-big ten freshman type of player. Hopefully he will develop into a starter before the year is out as JT Floyd doesn't seem to have the athletic ability that you would like to see from an above average CB.
