Glenbard North has only lost one game this year... To the high school I coach at! Batavia Bulldogs, 9-0 until we picked a bad time to play our worst game (first round of the playoffs).
Anyways, I was at the Batavia Glenbard North game, and Justin was impressive (although largely contained). I thought North's most impressive player was Murphy, the quarterback. He was small but very fast and athletic. He's a beast on the wrestling mats and the football field.

I roomed with Steve Kragthorpe's son in college and played football with him for four years. For those of you who don't know, Steve Kragthorpe was the very successful head coach at Tulsa, moved on to Louisville where he had a tough go of it (Bobby Petrino had left the program in shambles, not surprisingly) and is now the quarterbacks coach at LSU. His son told me that his dad would let him fill out his Top 25 ballot because he didn't have time to watch games and, frankly, didn't care enough to put the time into it. So here is this kid, 9, 10, 11 years old, playing a role in who gets to play for the BCS National Championship. Crazy to me, and proves how silly the coaches poll is.

|5 years 41 weeks ago||Tebow||
Let me preface this by saying that I've never had a problem with Tebow. Hating a guy for doing all the right things just seems assanine.
So, needless to say, I had no problems with his "speech" following the Ole Miss game. He publicly took responsibility for the loss, and his promise inspired the whole team. What he said really came true.
Tebow never has had a problem with the spotlight or being in front of cameras. That is just who he is. I'm not going to blame the guy for that.
Denard is clearly a guy that loves football and loves Michigan, but doesn't love being interviewed. So, he made his statement in the locker room. Again, that is just who he is.
Tebow's speech became a season-changing moment and a piece of Florida lore. I can only hope that Denard's will have the same effect.

"grant's" as you say, won't necessarily be affected for incoming players. A football scholarship is a full ride; there are no partials at the division one level. Self-imposed scholarship reductions will likely be made so they can just not give out scholarships to some walk-ons that otherwise would have been handed out. Since the violations weren't in recruiting, I don't see any serious scholarship reductions forthcoming.
|6 years 21 weeks ago||This was actually one of the||
This was actually one of the biggest concerns for me. I was happy that recruits weren't making a big deal about it, but now that the issues have been released and some kind of punishment certainly looms, it is up to the coaching staff to mitigate fears.
This is where I think Brandon's vote of confidence in RR is a big deal.
I feel like every year, RR and co have a new, and perhaps more difficult, task to deal with in recruiting then the year before. They've come up sparkling before, so here's to hoping they do it again.

You are going to honestly tell me you wouldn't do the exact same thing?
What does Kiffin care about Tennessee? He is a California boy. He was a USC assistant for 6 years. He is going from the 6th best SEC team to the virtually uncontested top dog of the Pac Ten. He gets to recruit California now instead of rural TN. He gets a pay raise. Are you kidding? I don't care about the sanctions, this is the opportunity of a lifetime for this guy. USC is his DREAM JOB.
Think about it this way:
You are the head coach at Ole Miss. You have been there for one moderately succesful season. Your phone rings. It's Michigan, the school you have wanted to coach your whole life, and they say they want YOU as their head coach. Then, on top of it, they tell you that you can bring your father along as DC, and you get perhaps the best OC and recruiter in college football. And they are going to pay you more!
Now I ask, would you EVER say no to this? You would say "to hell with Ole Miss" and you'd go to Michigan.
Kiffin was afforded a much better opportunity, and he took it. 99% of the bloggers pissing on him would have done the exact same thing.
|6 years 27 weeks ago||Honestly, I don't know enough||
Honestly, I don't know enough about Kiffin to indict him. He had a dream job opportunity, he took it.
Saban, on the other hand... I have it from a very reliable source (a D one head coach) that he is a capital d Dick and his own players don't like him. Look at the post NC celebration! No one was within five yards of him. And he was so pissed his shirt got stained red with gatorade he couldn't even celebrate. That man has very little joy in his life.
Saban is a douche, no question, and more vilified.
Kiffin is edgy, controversial, and reckless, but his douchiness is yet to be determined, IMHO.

|6 years 39 weeks ago||This whole thing may be being||
This whole thing may be being overblown. This is a classic coaching move. Temporarily demote the starter, get him fired up and show him that his job isn't quite as secure as he thinks. See how he responds. Some players don't respond too well (see Cissoko, although there may have been other things going on here as well). I say Tate responds well.
I guess we'll see Saturday, but I see no way Tate doesn't start.
If RR wants to "play it safe and conservatively" as some have said, then Tate can throw the screens, quick slants and 5 yard outs and curls. He can do this just as well, if not better then, Sheridan, and his shiftiness in the run game adds a second dimension Sheridan can't hope to duplicate.
There is a reason Tate has started every game. RR is just doing what good coaches do. Being comfortable is never a good thing.

But for real, you wouldn't trade Tate for Tebow? Excuse me?! You wouldn't trade a 180 pound true freshman six games into his career, who, granted, has been relatively good for a freshman, for someone who has multiple All-America's, multiple National Championships, and a shot at multiple Heismans? Someone who might go down as the best college player ever?

Titus Young (#4 on Boise) is a stud. He had to sit out most of last year for disciplinary reasons. If he can stay on the field the whole year, he gives Boise a legit downfield, big play threat. I think his play is key on whether they can go undefeated.

I love watching Woodley destroy OT's in the NFL.
I'm sure the freshmen and sophomores (really anyone that didn't play w/ him) were ecstatic that he gave the speech.

They are very good and another prestigious Christian university. Last year was our first time playing (they aren't in our conference) but I would certainly say that the rivalry is developing.

I see the comparison, but our football team is much, much more talented then our basketball team. We had a 6'5 white guy starting at PF and walk-ons rotating at PG. Any team can fall asleep one week, but having more talent makes the weeks you do fall asleep less of a consequence.

Pryor lead the Big Ten in passing efficiency as a freshman.
He is the most out-of-this-world athlete to ever play quarterback.
He is faster, taller, more athletic, and has a stronger arm then Tate.
That being said, Tate Forcier is (two games into his career) undoubtedly the winner in moxie, decision making, and, to put it simply, is just a better quarterback.
I love Tate. I love his fit at Michigan. However, I think Pryor would have absolutely EXPLODED in this offense. If I had to pick one quarterback to run the system, it's him.

If you start manningham over braylon in fantasy you are clinically insane.
Even still, great play, vintage mario. It looks like he won that 3rd reciever job. Hopefully he can have a Breaston-esque season from that spot.
|6 years 45 weeks ago||I think the best case||
I think the best case scenario would be Tate and Minor (and possibly Junior) playing the whole first half, and then, if we have a substantial 35-0 type lead, they will have the first series of the second half and be done. Then, Denard, Shaw, Brown, Vincent, and Stonum and get some reps and some valuable experience.

We'll have to wait and see, but I see a minimal effect either way. I play college football, and I can say with some certainty that the majority of this is not bulletin board material to get 20 year old kids pumped up for the Broncos. I would venture a guess that the whole team has tried to move past this entirely already

If I'm not mistaken, Feagin was a "late-round flier," meaning he was a last second addition to the recruiting class because RR couldn't snatch another quarterback. Perhaps RR and his staff didn't have time to fully research Feagin?
|6 years 50 weeks ago||Feagin did something stupid.||
Feagin did something stupid. Incredibly stupid, granted. College kids do stupid things. The condemnation of a coach for the immature actions of a player is, in my opinion, silly. Especially if the happenings are sporadic. Rodriguez has zero history of this stuff being an issue.
For the most part, I'm not getting the sense that the media is spinning this against RR. I feel like the RichRod hating is starting to subside as the season approaches
|6 years 50 weeks ago||I feel like it is important||
I feel like it is important to realize how arbitrary these lists truly are. This isn't a "top 5 for Michigan's system," this is a top 5 of all quarterbacks. With that being said, the mere fact that Gardner is being mentioned despite not being a pure passer is exciting

I'm giddy like a school girl for the start of the season. It'll be interesting to see how things shape up once practice heats up. The only real guarantee is Zoltan's supremacy.
