You shouldn't be negged for this at all. They lost to Penn State. Enough said. |
| 12 weeks 1 day ago | Pissed away 10 point lead |
You get what you put in whether it is a game or in life. The young men seemingly didn't put in much banking on a winless Penn State team cowering and looking ahead to Saturday. You would think since Penn State played them tough at home they would have really took it to them here. Not the case at all. This team just doesn't respond well to pressure which is what the tourney is all about. |

In places like LSU, Texas, and Alabama (there are more) football is king in the region. Alabama and Texas could drop basketball all together and football wouldn't even blink. Kids in Texas and SEC territory are just more focused on football and basketball is just something to do between football seasons. |
| 14 weeks 2 days ago | Maybe not 20 points |
But a number were blaming the refs for at least 19 points earlier on this board. The refs played zero role in the outcome of this game. Everyone here piled on LaVeon Bell for his comments about the refs screwing them because they were unfounded just as blaming the refs for not breaking 50 until MSU sent the walkons in is unfounded. Bad game by Michigan and a great game by State is why this was a slaughter. |
| 14 weeks 2 days ago | Sorry |
The refs are not a 20 point difference in this game. That's a lame excuse for the whooping that is taking place due to turnovers and just sloppy play. |

When then CEO (and A2 resident) Bill Ford Jr. decided he was not the right man to lead Ford Motor Company and hired Alan Mullaly to engineer their turn around. You can go even further back to when Henry Ford II bought the Lions for William Clay Ford to keep him away from Ford Motor in the 1960's. Bill Jr. has the humility to actually help the Lions by finding the right person to lead and not be a yes man to him. |

I could see LSUFreek making a video of Rodriguez putting a bag of flaming dog poo on Rosenbergs porch. Ha ha! |
| 27 weeks 1 day ago | Thanks |
I thought it was good to hear as well. Personally, I think its great to see Rodriguez supporting Denard and can only help him as he moves to the next level. Whatever a Michigan fans opinion is about Rodriguez, he is still a well respected and especially in the coaching fraternity. So who knows, maybe those words from Rodriguez could give a team the green light to pick Denard a little sooner come draft day. |
| 27 weeks 1 day ago | Thanks |
I usually don't either given the tone it usually gets and the fact that everyone has moved including Rodriguez but I thought this was a nice piece. |

You are correct. Just read any Denard or Michigan article on the Detroit newspaper sites and you will see not just a dislike but utter contempt for Denard Robinson. I had a guy near me yell "I'm glad you're hurt and a senior!" when he was shown on the scoreboard and he was agreed with by the guy in front of him. I almost said something but whats the point with morons like that. They'll never get it and really, who cares what he thinks other than people of like mind. There is a pretty nasty group of Denard haters. In fact John U. Bacon wrote an article in September about how more Michigan fans should appreciate Denard and Terry Foster (yes, I know) wrote a similar one on November 6th. Why? Because there are too many people that are haters and want everything both ways. When he is gone I hope the school and the program will have another young man with the respect, class and drive the Denard Robinson has shown. Maybe I am a prisoner of the moment but I can't think of a better face (or hair) the Michigan football program in a long time than Denard Robinson.

I'm just tired of people blaming the past for the issues of the last two weeks. If that type of thought was a poor excuse in 2008-2009, it's still a poor excuse in 2012. |

Two top 15 recruiting classes (2009,2010), both ranked second in the Big Ten to Ohio State. |

but it better not be a cinder block footed one that couldn't escape a wet paper bag when the line breaks down. There are very few successful QB's like that in todays game without an Alabama defense. Most elite college QB's can move at least a little so I hope that's what Michgan wants. |

Maybe the Longhorn Network is not thrilled with the subpar Texas football team they have to show. Luckily they still have the Texas womens volleyball team! Not being sarcastic either. I have AT&T Uverse and get the Longhorn Network here in Michigan and it's not hard on the eyes unlike Mack Brown's football team. |
| 30 weeks 5 days ago | Love that kid |
He takes a lot of heat, some of it is justified but a lot of it is not. No player in recent memory has been put on front of the media like Denard has and he handles it perfectly every time. He has never stuck his foot in his mouth and makes one hell of a rep for the program and the school. Go Blue and Go Denard! |

My dog has been very sick lately and I've been on the campus a lot and they have all told me they don't care what happens as long as MSU beats Michigan. Now that could be because their season has been less than expected but that was the attitude at least this year from 9 out 10 people I have come in contact with. All have been cool about it though. |
| 30 weeks 5 days ago | MSU Campus |
Have you ever been on the MSU campus? They live and die for one game and one game only. If they went 1-11 and the the one win was against Michigan it would be a good season. Not trying to be dick on the beautiful day but that's what Sparty wants, all or nothing against Michigan. |

I just give USC the benefit of the doubt that they had a bad game but I could live with them out as well. Stanford is overrated but at the same time many teams are so I guess they might be spot on given the turmoil of the top 25. |

There is so much contempt for a kid who has done more for Michigan football than myself or anyone else posting has. It's as if shitting on a our QB after a game that I'm sure he knows was terrible is going to make the loss any easier. This is when a fan base (especially a more educated one like here) should harden the f up and support Denard even more. There is no need to be a dick to kids who play a game for your team. If you feel the need to be a dick go follow Delvon Roe on Twitter. |
| 34 weeks 5 days ago | No! |
It's not FIRE BORGES either and yes Denard was bad but the Vincent Smith pass attempt had nothing to do with Denard and was a key play in the game. |
| 34 weeks 5 days ago | Agreed |
Especially in the Smith pass, what a momentum killer. Not that Denard has made it easy on himself but that really hurts and puts even more pressure on Denard to move the ball. Let's face it, all the pressure has been on Denard since he's the only one who can move the ball. |

They're just clean and classy looking. It's been said before but I really like what UCLA and USC have done by both wearing their home jerseys. It looks great with the sharp contrast in colors. However there are two teams that could do it better... |
| 37 weeks 4 days ago | Glad someone posted this |
I was curious as to how the Alabama fans were given how rabid ESS-EEE-SEE fans are. So far the bottom of the barrel has always been MSU fans, even worse the OSU fans. After sparty its the Buckeyes but I've always disliked the Penn State fans and had some really mouthy ones tailgating nearby in 2007 after "The Horror". After Manninghams catch in the endzone I couldn't wait to get back to the tailgate and yes, it was served cold. Thes best fans for me were the UConn fans and the UMass fans. They were really excited to be there regardless of the outcome of the game and asked a million questions about the stadium, Ann Arbor etc. before and after. Never had a problem with ND fans either but I found Minnesota fans were a little mouthy last year as they walked around. USC fans are mix for sure but most were cool in 2007 at the Rose Bowl, especially the people we sat around. The drunken Brody Jenner look-a-likes in the parking lot after were total d-bags to the point where other USC fans told them to shut up. So its good to hear that the Bama fans were cordial because they could have been real jerks given how the game played out. |
| 37 weeks 4 days ago | "That was 2 years ago" |
That was the response from the spartys at the bar I was at and others I know. "It was two years ago and what happens two years ago doesn't matter today and this MSU team would have lost but only by 3." is what a couple of them told which made me laugh. So I asked for a score and they gave 23-20 for Alabama (a couple said 31-10 MSU) which made me laugh harder. I told them they wouldn't cross the 50 just LSU in the BCS game until the 4th quarter which was met with "yeah right Walverine". Then they preceded to talk up Boise St. and how great they've been the last three years which led me to point out if two years ago didn't matter why should three? They honestly didn't get what I was getting at. I "misremembered" what I was talking with and realized it was like trying to teach my bulldog how to cook me dinner.

He's just a little mad Denard went through the self check-out instead of his express lane when Denard bought his shoes. I would be bummed too. |
| 50 weeks 5 days ago | Last season |
For last season the only way to get Notre Dame, Nebraska, and Ohio State was through the ticket package option with all packages including Eastern Michigan. ND was gone for all but single seats however I picked up two seats for OSU with no problem at all. With a soft home schedule and in state opponents those MSU packages will go very fast. |
| 50 weeks 5 days ago | Packages |
I think there will be MSU tickets available but they'll likely be in a ticket package of three games and UMass will certainly be part of that package. Last season I picked up two seats for Ohio State (top row in the OSU section of sec. 7) but had to get Eastern Michigan, Purdue and San Diego State. It's highly doubtful to find any single game MSU tickets through MGoBlue.com so if you just want one game it could be tough or at least very expensive.

| 51 weeks 5 days ago | Banks should sue her |
Who knows if any of the money is left but Wanetta Gibson has recanted her admission of making it all up because she is worried about losing or repaying the money. Luckily it was recorded by a private investigator but when the DA asked her to state it again for the record she refused. That's just cold. On a side note, it's doubtful any NFL team would take guy who hasn't played since high school but wouldn't he still be eligable to play in college? If so he may still have a shot at making it or at least earning his degree. Interesting and sad story but it's a good post to share. Thanks MgoblueAF. |

| 1 year 3 weeks ago | MSU v. OSU |
Dont forget those stats include the cripple fight that took place in Columbus with key Buckeye players suspended and Joe Bauserman as the starting QB. A poster above mentioned MSU beating a RichRod defense a high school all-star team could beat well, Bauserman would likely not be on said HS all-star team in his current form. That said, MSU had a great defense and they played very well against Michigan last year so props to them. I'm definately not sad Worthy entered the draft either. EDIT: Damnit! This was supposed to be a reply to Homesick Alien. |

Berry had to know going on twitter after that game he was not going to find a lot of positive comments. If he didn't think there wouldn't be any ass clown comments then he is either stupid or delusional. To me it seems like he was actually looking for a fight just by getting on and reading the comments and then he must have read enough of them to upset him so much. Probably after the first couple he should have gotten the picture but it seems he read quite a few. This guy doesn't deserve a pass and if a bunch of tweets from random idiots affects him so bad he needs to get off twitter and get his mental game stronger. |
| 1 year 22 weeks ago | No biggie |
I do this when I am a little nervous like at a tight game or when I am ansty to get to work but have to sit for a minute to either explain instructions or receive instructions. It's fair to say that Hoke is not exactly at home sitting for a 20 minute presser either. His voice never changes and his posture stays the same through out so I chalk it up to being restless, sitting at a long press conference covering practice.
(Insert Iverson "practice" comments! Ha ha!) |
| 1 year 23 weeks ago | Nope |
I think it would be a lot of fun to play on back-to-back weeks for the players, the fans and anyone associated with either school, especially the loser of the first game! The sane Buckeye fan I sat next to this year (section 7, row 96. Yup, top row.) and I actually talked about this and we were in agreement. So if there is anything Michigan and Ohio State fans can agree upon it's that game, it's importance, and it's place on the schedule. Good luck to the suits trying to mess with it because it will not play well in Ann Arbor or Columbus. |
| 1 year 24 weeks ago | Let's recruit! |
We should recruit blogs like Penn State, Texas and others to join in the fun! The Ohio Stae debacle was humorous for pretty much any college football fan so I would be some would jump in. |
| 1 year 25 weeks ago | Dave BRANDon |
I'm not so sure. Brandon talks about growing the Michigan brand and if you could put the words "Michigan Stadium" on a bunch of Maple Leaf gear he would be interested. Plus he could showcase the stadium to a whole new audience in Canada who does like football and if they tune in to a few Michigan games and maybe buy a shirt to two its good for Michigan. UofM could be Canada's college team! Ha ha! |
| 1 year 25 weeks ago | Opponent wish list |
As for opponents for the Wings it's easy. Toronto. Maple Leafs fans travel like Nebraska to play Detroit and would make for a great atmosphere. For Michigan I would say it has to be sparty. There really isn't anyone else that would fill a 110,000 seat stadium and spartys like the Wings too. Wisconsin or OSU fans don't really care about the Wings so you couldn't sell tickets packages to both games. |
| 1 year 25 weeks ago | +1 |
I'm in favor of a plus one system and just voting again after all the bowl games. It seems that many questions are answered after the New Years Day bowl games and it would restore the traditional bowl game rivalries like the Pac12 and Big10 in the Rose Bowl. For a quick example I think back to the 2007 bowl season where there was debate whether Michigan should play Ohio State again in the National Championship game. Turns out neither should have been there after the beatings Michigan and OSU took but I would have loved to have seen USC play Florida. I just don't want to see college kids beat the hell out of each other for 16 weeks while trying to balance classes and life. That's asking a lot of 19-20 year old kid. After reading 3 and Out I doubt many college students would sign up for Denards day and adding a playoff would just make it worse. It's a lot of fun to watch but college football is just a game and I don't feel the players benefit from a prolonged playoff system and that's what this should be about. The other sports like hockey and basketball play much shorter seasons compared to their pro counterparts even with their playoffs and the physical toll is less. If you want an NFL season then pay the kids NFL money. |

I wasn't aware Rodriguez ever coach a juggernaut. If you think Michigan was a juggernaut before he came you better grab a dictionary because Michigan definately does not fit the the definition in any way. |

It's at least a cover of a traditional LSU Marching Band song where 'We are Notre Dame' is a cover to a trash can. |
| 1 year 26 weeks ago | Close |
It's not the fight song but it is a major song played by the LSU band. When I went to Death Valley a few years ago the band played 'Hey Fightin' Tigers' during their pregame for Louisiana Tech. The whole crowd sang it so it's not some obscure song that the band plays occasionally so I'm guessing it's along the lines of 'Varsity' for us. Here is 'Hey Fightin' Tigers' by the LSU Marching Band: |

Here it is on GameDay last week in Palo Alto. It's not flashy but I ike it.
|
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | I'll take one more win |
I will give up one of the next two games, maybe both to beat Ohio State at this point. Losing to Illinois wouldn't be good but would feel like Iowa. I've thought Nebraska would win from the moment the schedule came out but maybe not anymore. I could care less if the conference is weak and if we are "frauds". I don't care if OSU is down because they didn't care that Michigan has been down and they were dirtier than used Depends in their wins. For me perosnally beating Illinois and Nebraska only to lose to OSU would leave a bad taste. Going 2-1 isn't ideal it would be far more palatable of one of those wins came at home on November 26, 2011. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | Better competition |
I feel that term is debatable. This Iowa team is not nearly as good as last year which sent 6 players to the NFL last year. Adrian Clayborn, Christian Ballard, Ricky Stanzi, Karl Klug, Julian Vandervelde, and Tyler Sash are all impact players. The Minnesota team that came to Ann Arbor would have lost to a FCS school like UMass easily just like they lost to North Dakota State and New Mexico. (Yes, I am calling New Mexico a FCS school.) I think 2010 UConn was better than Western this year. Eastern is Eastern and yes last years Indiana and Bowling Green were bad but no one is upset about losing Penn State and Wisconsin off the schedule. I think sparty was slightly better last year despite their padded defensive stats this year from snuffing out FAU, a bad Central team and a offensively handicapped OSU.
While close I feel last year schedule was tougher. Ohio State was better last year than this year so that is yet to come and Michigan moved the ball well against sparty but with two red zone turnovers, one to start the game.
As with anything the truth lies in between but I think this years schedule is easier because the Big Ten merely average and that is being nice. This years conference bowl class may go winless. |

How many times do you see a team take a delay of game penalty when inside the 5 to get a better angle? Usally the opposing team declines it if the staff is alert though but it's worth a shot. |
| 1 year 36 weeks ago | I'm not Coach Hoke... |
so I don't have to classy and hope state gets crushed. Yes Notre Dame can be annoying but state fans are even worse because they have tendency to be pyromaniacs and are experts in property damage. Plus I have be around them far more often. I see a 31- 28 win for the Irish. |
| 1 year 36 weeks ago | Thats cool |
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I don't see why your comment here got modded down. I feel this team is an engima at this point. After 7 quarters I really can't see where this team is at and therefore can't see if the coaching change was right or wrong or if it has even made a difference. That is something that I feel will take a little more time and 2-0 start with a good start to recruiting just isn't enough for me to say 'this is much better'. Just as you feel more comfortable with the new staff I need to see a little more after the great starts the past two years our guys have gotten off to. Regardless of the coaching staff I am sure we agree (hopefully EVERYONE agrees) that we really want these players to be successful because they deserve it. After what they have been put through by fans, alumni, and media these kids have all kept working hard and never quit playing for either coach. |
| 1 year 36 weeks ago | Experience helps |
I think the fact that a lot of these kids also have 11 more games experience versus last season helps more than coaching or scheme at this point. Say what you what about coaching but that trial by fire players like Kovacs went through pays off as this year goes on and Mattison will only add to that. |
| 1 year 36 weeks ago | Scored more sure |
But they also gave up more points and similar yardage so is defense worse? |
| 1 year 37 weeks ago | Don't mess with that guy. |
He's a real bad ass. He should have tossedd his wig in the fire to truely end the RichRod era because I'm sure when he sees that on YouTube he'll think "Damn you RichRod, you made me wear a wig!" |
| 1 year 37 weeks ago | To be fair |
I don't believe the band was in the stadium when they came back out after the first rain delay. |
| 1 year 37 weeks ago | Not a big deal |
It's just a different style, not any better or worse than a coach who wears a headset the whole game. I also don't see a coach who wears a headset as a micromanager at all, it's just their style. If it were about micromanagment then 95% or college and pro coaches would be guilty. I think some of those comments are thinly veiled shots at the previous coach at Michigan who wore a headset, like the three coaches before him. I looked at Google images of him and found a bunch of photos of him in the past wearing headsets so maybe he had some reason not to wear one most of the time. He may have been trying to get a feel for the teams attitude and intensity in their first game. It's probably hard to do when you have a headset on and people talking in your ear. Again, just his style. Different isn't wrong or right, it's just different and it's also just 3 quarters of football so far. |
| 1 year 37 weeks ago | Lane shift |
There is a lane shift on US 23 a little further south of Brighton but it is still two lanes going north and south. The right lane on northbound US 23 is closed so they added a narrow lane on southbound. Northbound traffic is split with one lane being the normal left and the other being southbounds left lane but going north. It's a little weird but better than one lane. |
| 1 year 37 weeks ago | Construction FYI |
US 23 is a cluster right now with construction at the US 23 and I96 interchange and a lane shift just south of Brighton. It's still two lanes for both north and south but it's still orange signs with orange barrels so it triggers the typical stupidity amongst drivers. I know because I have to drive it every morning and it sucks on Thursday so Saturday should be just amazing. |

| 1 year 49 weeks ago | ND is the toughest |
The reason I beleive Notre Dame will be the most difficult is based on last years game and the fact that Nate Montana saw playing time and it was a close game. They have a decent defense as well but if Dayne Crist stays in the game and plays well Michigan could be in trouble. After ND I would put Ohio State as the next toughest. They have been stacked on defense for years and that whole scheme will stay intact. The offense will stay mostly intact as well and if Miller is as good as they say by that time in the year he will be seasoned. If that kid gets hurt though they are in serious trouble and I think would have a hard time moving the ball being forced to rely too much on the run. sparty to me is the easiest for a number of reasons. Cousins is not Dayne Crist and he lost his favorite target in in Gantt. They also lost their best CB in Rucker and (IMHO) the key to great a defense, two very good linebackers which will make it easier to run the ball. Without good LB's that can get side to side Denard could have a big day either running or throwing on bootlegs. Also you never know what player might be in jail at kickoff. It's all a matter of opinion but I see sparty as the weakest because they lost some key guys and we have yet to see how well Dantonio can replace key talent. We know ND has a great passing game and Ohio State, unfortunately is always loaded with great talent. |

Aside from having limited options in finding a head coach in June I would not be surprised if Fickell loses the interim tag at the end of the year. Just basing off what Michigan alumni/fans wanted in a coach this guy has all of those for Ohio State. He's a Buckeye. From Ohio, played at OSU, coached at OSU and "gets" the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry. I do know he is one of their main recruiters as well so they wouldn't lose much there either. The negatives could be he was asscoiated with all of this since he was on Tressels staff and if he loses to Michigan hes a toast. |
| 1 year 51 weeks ago | I'm not sure about that |
The kids suspended for the first 5 games this year came up huge in the bowl game. Between Pryor playing well enough to win the Fiesta Bowl MVP to the backup lineman picking off Mallett at the end to seal the win were huge. I agree with others that if Troy Smith was ineligible he wouldn't have led that drive in 2005 and even more recently if the 4 players already implicated maybe wouldnt have changed the outcome but would have put Michigan in the game. As inconsistent as Pryor is I like Michigans chance better with Joe Bauserman at QB. |
| 2 years 4 days ago | I have no clue |
What does it take to build a program? Does it take 2-3 years to really get things moving at a major university? I have no clue because I've never tried it. Sure a lot of coaches have made turnarounds happen and the current and previous coach at Michigan have done it, all before they came to Michigan. Maybe there's a lot more to deal with than just X's and O's when you go from a smaller school to Michigan that neither me or anyone on this board will ever know. So to sit there on a computer and claim an accomplished college coach "doesn't know what he's doing" is pretty disingenuous. I support Michigan. I supported Michigan with coach Rodriguez, coach Carr, coach Moeller, coach Schembechler and now coach Hoke. I would have supported Michigan with a coach English or even a coach Deboard. It's just gotten old seeing any post on Rodriguez and seeing the same comments over and over. |
| 2 years 6 days ago | Good |
Aside from this being good for the student athletes think of the impact it could have on recruiting. If you're a kid sitting on scholarship offers from Alabama, USC, and Michigan where are you going? My only concern is conferences competing on pay down the road. It would be beneficial to all if the NCAA would step up and put together a plan or a way to cap the pay at $5000. A financial pissing match between conferences wouldn't do anyone, any good. |

Its always tough to see anyone at such a young age pass. I remember watching him a few years back when he was with Minnesota playing the Wings. He was a mountain of a player and by far the biggest guy on the ice. |

but whatever. They just killed a penalty and then scored. I call that a momentum shift. |

If Sharks score I hate to say it, but I think the Wings are toast. If they can kill it maybe they can get some momentum.

That's a pretty busy area (for Detroit), especially given the fact the Wings were playing tonight. It's right near the old Ponchartrain, just a block north of Cobo. People need grow up and harden the fuck up. No one knows what happened but it probably involved a stupid comment and more than likely a girl in the middle and resulted in a kid killed because of it. Just stupid "pride" getting in the way again. |
| 2 years 2 weeks ago | Time to reload |
They need to make some moves this offseason. Not saying blow them up, just some guys need to be moved out and some others brought in. The Wings looked great for 2 periods and the wheels fell off in the 3rd. |

I was at the base of a gigantic Buddha statue wearing my Mike Hart #20 away jersey and two Chinese guys in their late 20's walked up and asked if it was a Michigan jersey. When I said yes they replied "Go Blue", fist pump and all. They knew of Michigan through a friend who did a semester in Ann Arbor and traveled to the Flint campus as well. They said he brought back video of football, hockey and basketball gmaes and they thought they were amazing. |

I don't have any experience with Cubs fans but the White Sox fans get pretty mouthy if they're in the hunt. Bears fans are not great but neither a many of the Lions fans! Lions fans think they score a touchdown the game is going to be close one. Then come the next three quarters and that excitement turns to drunken anger. Blackhawks fans are the worst though as far as visiting hockey teams to Detroit. |
| 2 years 6 weeks ago | The city yes |
No one would deny that but not the hockey team. The Red Wings have owned them for the better part of 20 years and yet they "suck". |
| 2 years 6 weeks ago | Blackhawk fans= sparty fans |
Their obession with the Red Wings is scary. I've been to the United Center twice and instead of chanting "Let's Go Hawks!" they spend more time yelling "Detroit Sucks!". When the scoreboard says differently they get really defensive when you point that out. I don't really care for any Chicago sports fans in general. Everyone talks about Philly fans or Boston or New York but Chicago is right up there. They are obnoxious and rude for all sports, especially baseball and hockey. By contrast the Maple Leaf fans at the Joe a couple weeks ago were great. They were loud, cheered their team and were really interested in talking about hockey. The fans across the aisle were even better because we talked about the Wings and Leafs playing at Michigan Stadium when there is another Big Chill. |
| 2 years 6 weeks ago | Agreed |
Face it, this team overacheived on so many levels. They had a great year and I'm pround of it as I am sure they are. Winning the Big Chill 4-0, winning the GLI for the millionth time, playing in the NCAA tourney for the 20th conseutive year and making a hell of a run it. Thats a great year. Only one team in the nation wouldn't trade places with them and that's Minnesota-Duluth. |
| 2 years 6 weeks ago | What about Tressel? |
Do you respect him? He's won a lot of games over the years, proving that he is a good coach. Has one national championship and has made it to I believe 3 NC games. Has won BCS games and does better in rivalry games than maybe any coach in OSU history. I hate him for obvious reasons but I did respect him because he seemed less douchy than guys like Saban, Kiffen, and Spurrier. That went out the window when it came out his cheating directly led to wins. Tressel manipulated the game by playing people that he knew would be ineligable. Without those players he loses a couple of games early and their season is dead. OSU doesn't go to the Sugar Bowl and the school doesn't get the massive pay day. I don't see how his manipulation is bad and Manny's two failed tests and countless character issues is ok because "he's a great hitter". He can be a great hitter, when he wants to be. |
| 2 years 6 weeks ago | Dumars created this |
His managment has led to this debacle of a season. Stuckey isn't good. The talk of him being a "poor mans Dwyane Wade" are a joke. He might be a homeless mans Dwayne Wade at best. He also traded a player who loved Detroit in Billups for Allen Iverson who was washed up and a douche. I know he did that to make cap room but with that cap room he brought Villnueva and Gordon who are good guys off the bench but wouldn't start too many places. Then you have the constant coaching changes because he has assembled a group of players that call all the shots. When they don't like a coach they quit. If I were a coach it would be a cold day in hell before I came to Detroit to coach this group of overrated malcontents. That's why Kuester is the coach now, no one else wanted to be involved in this mess. They need to clean house and go back to building in the draft. The Pistons were regarded as an elite organization who like the Red Wings were attractive to good players. Rasheed Wallace could have left but he signed a 5 year deal to stay in Detroit after they won the championship. Maybe I am nuts but I think players want to go where they can win more than the weather and they can no longer win in Detroit. That's what makes people have to over pay. |

Check out the president of Central Florida. I am surprised that UCF has the highest paid president in the state of Florida given the shear number of major schools in the state. If I were a betting man I would be broke because I would have bet the house that FSU would have the highest paid president. Pair that with the fact Florida doesn't have an income tax and he is doing quite well. |

If you click the #spartanpride link it comes up "page does not exist". Just like spartan pride. Just to be clear, there is no such thing as "spartan pride". There is only Michigan disdain from spartan fans. State could go 1-11 if football, 2-16 in basketball (conference) and it would be "a good year" as long as those lone wins were against Michigan. |
| 2 years 11 weeks ago | Yes! |
The last sentence in your post nails it. This isn't so much people upset over a team rule as it is an objection to religion which makes this a slippery slope. This issue is a lot closer to making a kid run laps for being late to practice or missing a tackle than a caning. |
| 2 years 11 weeks ago | Exactly |
You and most of the others on here seem to get it but what scares me are the ones who think that this is wrong for the wrong reasons. The wrong reasons being the rules he agreed to. Does that make any sense? I think it's great the kid owns the choice he made. It's the opposite of what most people do today. |
| 2 years 11 weeks ago | Seriously? |
You equate a kid choosing to go to a college with strict rules to a woman born into a society with little to no choice in the matter. I don't think a muslim, female has much of a choice to what country or type of society she is born into. The kid made a choice to go to BYU which make kids sign the code when they enroll. If he didn't like it then he could have gone elsewhere. I'm sure he had other offers. This is about choices and the consequences that go along with them. He made a choice and knew the consequences. Why can't people own their decsions? If you can't see how different the two are I feel really bad for you and anyone else. |

You just can't seem to get off the topic of Rodriguez. We know your feelings toward him because nearly every post is about how bad he is. He's gone, move on, get over it. Lets say Rodriguez ran him off. I say good, he's a spaz. Even St. Lloyd thought so. If he stayed and all these rumors persisted I'm sure you would have blamed the drug use on Rodriguez |
| 2 years 14 weeks ago | somewhat agree |
I agree some of the MSU hits were suspect but the Bowling Green hit that took him out was pretty clean. The only hit that was just rediculous was in the Illiniois game were he was clearly down for a good second and took the helmet to helmet hit. That should have been automatice ejection from the game but I don't even think it was called. I just remember Rodriguez going nuts on the sideline. |
| 2 years 14 weeks ago | Whats the problem? |
I don't understand why some on here are so pissy about giving props to a player from an opposing team or rival doing somthing cool. It should be that way. There is nothing wrong in showing a little class to people who have done nothing wrong. To me, that's what should set a Michigan fan apart from a spartan or a buckeye fan. If Bo and Woody can be friends, Izzo and Jonny B can repect one another why can't a Michigan fan think what Sullinger did was cool? Personally, I think it was cool on both Sullinger and the Gopher fans part. That's what heckling should be. Not the "F you, you piece of sh--! I hope you die" garbage so many seem to think is acceptable. That's not in fun, that's just stupid. When at Michigan games I always help an opposing fan if they ask (and are respectful) and offer help sometimes like when they want pictures taken in front of Michigan Stadium. It's just sports. |

Thanks, just more of the useless knowledge I carry! There is a school out there just gives them away for academics only. I want to say it's Vanderbilt but I might be wrong. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | A bit outside |
I'm sure this has been on here before but here is a quick Wikipedia list on helmet stickers. Fresno has three different colors and like Georgia Florida State recognizes academic achievements as well which is something I really like since they are student athletes. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Slightly OT |
I personally would like to see some recognition of the already retired numbers in the stadium. There must be a way to tastefully display the names and numbers of guys like Harmon, Ford, Schembechler, and Yost on the massive blue facades at the top of the suites. Maybe even some of the bigger accomplishments like Big Ten titles and national championships but nothing more than that. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | No |
No because helmet stickers only passable on less complex helmets like OSU's or Georgia's. Plus those wolverine heads are just too big. I do like what Georgia does with it's bones though. White for athletics and black bones for academic. Sparty give's an "S" for every week not in jail. I would never be 100% for it but if they were just small block "M"s instead of those massive stickers it might be at least tolerable. |

I was just responding to SeanOrnery's comment where he specifically cites the last three OSU games as bad, leaving out the 2007 game. Regardless, a one point loss toe OSU sucks as much as a 100 point loss. Of course hindsight is always 20/20 but I still feel that game could have gone better. Yes the conditions were brutal with the rain/snow mix but they really didn't play well over all. I was left soaked, cold, and hearbroken after watching it. Could Minor and Brown have played? Maybe. (Not to be a jerk but there is a good chance Minor was hurt too!) Should Mallett have started? I don't think so because like I said, Henne wasn't horrible. Mario had a serious case of the drops in that game. My issue is that things were not all rosy before Rodriguez like so many think they remember. Many wanted Lloyds head for years before he retired and when he did they many wanted RRs head before the ink was dry. Things didn't pan out, obviously with the the Rodriguez hire but I just don't see the "world of awesomeness" other see before he came here. I saw a good team but not an amazing or even excellent team and it certainly wasn't very deep compared to years past. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Hello them as well |
It would be hard to argue that 2007 was a wild year and the exception given that in many years you end up with either an undefeated teams or at the most one loss teams playing. Only one team had a perfect record after week 15, Hawaii from the WAC. Only two had one loss, Ohio State and Kentucky. Florida had 3 losses and were ranked 9th that year. The rest of the top ten all had 2 losses that year. Problem is one of their 2 losses didn't come to Appy. The only way could have played in the title game in '07 would have been to win out and that wasn't a possibilty after week 2. No pollster would have never voted a team with a loss to a D2 school and a loss to an ok Oregon (finished 9-4) team a week later to play in the BCS championship game. Never. They may not have even have voted them with the just the App. St. loss. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | I don't dissagree they were hurt |
However, the staff knew all of that going into the game that there were injury issues. Knowing that I would hope they would have planned a way overcome that because their injuries did not happen in warmups. Again, a first quarter field goal with "all that talent RR inherited" should have scored more than 3 points. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Old boards |
The current scoreboard at Michigan Stadium just doesn't have a small screen but it is pretty faded from the inside. I would even be cool with them leaving them the same size and just making the entire upper part a screen. I'm more excited about the fact Yost will have a video screen. Now they can show replays on goals which only the people behind the penalty box can see. This may be a stretch but I think a real screen would add to the home ice advantage when it comes to penalties. Sometimes the refs miss a penalty (ha ha!) but when you show it on the screen maybe you get a call to go your way later on? |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Let's argue then |
Michigan was at least in the BCS title contention for more than the preseason this past year than in 2007. You don't win a national championship with two losses and they were 0-2 after their first two games. To get to the championship game in the Big Ten you must win all of your games including non-conference games. For the 2010 season, through 5 games they did just that. I'm not saying that the Gator Bowl was/is better than the Capital One Bowl because neither matters in a nation title debate. They are both consolation games in that respect. In the end yes, the 2007 team was better then the 2010 but they were not any closer to contending for a nation title because of the losses to Appilachian State and Oregon. After you lose two games it doesn't matter if you win out the rest of the year. You are not in the converstation to play in the BCS title game. The title talk was about the same in 2010 as it was in 2007, non-existant. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Agreed |
Is anyone 100% in the last game of the season? Regardless, they should have scored more than 3 points because Henne didn't play horrible, In fact he hit Mannigham in the numbers a number of times but he had huge drops and the right side of o-line got owned. So I can't see injuries as any excuse for 3 points on the board. If it is the case that those two injuries were the reason for such a horrible offense that day then the horrible offense in '08 shouldn't have been a surprise. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Oh for sure |

| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Mallett |
There were many reports that Mallett wanted out halfway through the season because he was homesick. So there is a good chance that he made his mind up long before Rodriguez was even hired. Do I have proof? Of course not, I wasn't there but at the same time the only insight you likely have into Rodriguez's personality is what you saw on T.V. I'm sure there is more to a mans personality than what you see on the television. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Yup |
I remember it well since I had to sit there surrounded by USC fans laughing because we couldn't score on their 2nd team D. We did however score on some of their 3rd stringers with about under 2:00 left in the game. Take that John David Booty! |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | Maybe |
There is no sure thing but Michigan did get pounded by the 4th best team in nation in the Rose Bowl that year. The fact that is was even as close as the score show is because USC played it's 2nd and 3rd stringers in the 4th quarter. I would argue that Michigan was closer to an NC this past year than in 2007 as well. That dream was dead after the first game and buried by the second. |
| 2 years 17 weeks ago | 2007 |
You left out the 3 points they scored against Ohio State in 2007 with Henne, Hart, Long, Kraus, Manningham, and Arrington. Those guys were pretty decent I thought. |
| 2 years 18 weeks ago | +1 |
Not just from a recruiting standpoint but Lloyd never had a viable coach on his staff that could have become the head coach after he retired. Most teams with a coach at an advanced age have a guy on board who can take over. If not they go out and find one the way West Virginia did so the transition isn't so difficult. Just look at what dantonio had. Treadwell came in and they didn't miss a beat handing Wisconsin it's only loss till the Rose Bowl. He then gets picked up by a pretty good MAC program in Miami and Ronnie is buried at Eastern. I still get chills when he said either DeBord or English would be "excellent choices" during the search. |
| 2 years 18 weeks ago | Homesick |
I know it was mentioned a number of times that Mallett was homesick during the 07 season. People close to him said he was unhappy being so far from his family and friends and thought about leaving in the middle of the year. That's when Carr told him to leave. Whether it's true that he was homesick or just using that as an excuse to be an ass it was clear he wasn't happy in Ann Arbor. |
| 2 years 18 weeks ago | Screwed. |
I will have a problem if Fred Jackson is not on the staff. An article on here a couple days ago mentioned how Jackson has a strong recruiting base in Texas. Sorry but I'm out on the idea that only midwest kids are viable recruits. I want those big and fast Texas recruits and some of that Florida speed and skill that Coach Jackson has his finger on. Even the "great satan" that is Rodriguez kept him on staff during his transition. So he obviously has value as a coach. |
| 2 years 18 weeks ago | Down the road |
Even further down the road I don't think it matters but it will however put the pressure on next years class. You definately can't miss two years in a row like we did on 06/07-07/08 years. As we know that leads to trouble. |
| 2 years 18 weeks ago | Not a bad year to miss |
Say we only land 10-12 guys this year does it mean we're in trouble? I would say no because this team as a whole is quite young. With 20 starters comming back and some solid recruits who were redshirted last year there is some decent depth. Maybe the skill isn't as high as we want or they are the type of players Hoke wants but it's arguably a better situation than 3 years ago. In that transition we lost both starting WR's, QB, RB, LT, LG, and C (douche) on offense and both OLB and SS on defense. So if some of these guys go elsewhere I think it would be ok. Getting 20 guys back on a 7 win team isn't so bad and one of them will be a senior CB and another is D-Rob. |

| 2 years 20 weeks ago | He could win without winning in San Fran |
Think about it. He could go 8-8 and win the division and make the playoffs in his first year. Hell, he might be able to go 7-9 and make the playoffs in that division. That would attract free agents because they would stand a great shot at making the playoffs and possible getting a bonus as would Harbaugh. Even if Harbaugh isn't in it for the money as some claim, the players sure are and extra money attracts better players and more wins. That's something he is definately in it for. |
| 2 years 20 weeks ago | Devils Advocate |
Is it really fair to compare the Big East of now to anyone? Shouldn't the comparison be made between the Pac 10 of now and the Big East that Rodriguez was part of? The Pac 10 is really down this year. The third best team has a 5-4 record, lost to Notre Dame at home and is 8-6 overall. The fourth best team is 5-4 in the conference and 6-6 overall. Arizona St. finished 6-6 but two of it's wins were against FCS schools and therefore didn't qualify for a bowl. Say what you want about their wins but the Big East did go 5-0 in bowl games in 2006-2007. So the period Rodriguez was at West Virginia the Big East may have been more competitive than the period Harbaugh has been involved in the Pac 10. Regardless, we are going to find out a lot about the Pac 10 tomorrow and on the 10th and in the end Rodriguez didn't win here. I just wouldn't be so sure that the next will either, regardless of who it is. |

| 2 years 21 weeks ago | There's a lot to like |
No person is perfect so of course Rich Rodriguez has his flaws but as a whole he has more integrity in his finger than all his detractors combined. I had the pleasure of meeting him once while attending UofM-Flint for my MBA at a leadership seminar in Ann Arbor. He was very warm to our group and even though he was short on time after the brief lecture he talked to all ten of us individually. I found him very engaging and genuine, something you don't always find. |
| 2 years 21 weeks ago | He's a good man |
I cannot agree more with SC Wolverine. The character assassination of Rich Rodriguez has been so over the top from the media and so called "true Michigan fans" it's almost comical. There have been so many comments about him being "a hillbilly" and "nothing but a loser". Some people like to ignore that this "hillbilly" is from the same area as Fielding Yost, the man who laid the ground work for Michigan's historical presence of today. Then you have people that say he's always been a loser. That group has a combined IQ of about 70 because to ignore what he has done prior to Michigan is idiotic. In fact many of "loser" crowd are amongst the biggest Harbaugh boosters. What makes that even more annoying is they point to what Harbaugh has done at Stanford (which is impressive, no doubt) but never acknowledge what Rodriguez accomplished at Tulane, Clemson, and West Virginia. Maybe Coach Rodriguez isn't the right fit, maybe he won't work out but when people assault his character and credentials you truly see how pathetic so many people are. If Brandon deceides to move on and things don't improve in 2 years with a new coach then what? Fire him too? Welcome to the age of instant gratification and character assassination. |

| 2 years 22 weeks ago | Minnesota is a major outlier |
Minnesota is a major outlier though. They were horrible this year and lost to South Dakota the week before and got hammered by NIU te week after the USC game. Arizona was ok but Iowa played awful that game but played great against MSU. ASU's record is pretty shaky at best being 6-6 with two FCS wins. Wisconsin was wasn't WISCONSIN until after that MSU loss which seemed to light a fire under them. |
| 2 years 22 weeks ago | Hyperbole |
I'll admit saying they are Big East weak (this year) is hyperbole but to say they are much stronger than the Big East is hyperbole as well. After Oregon there really isn't much beef. In my opinion, the PAC10 will win maybe one bowl game this year if any this year. The PAC10 as a whole is awful this year. The Iowa/Arizona game was Iowa's for the taking and they laid an egg the first half which cost them the game. Minnesota vs. USC... USC's second stringers years back could have beaten Minnesota this year so it shows how far they slipped. Also, Notre Dame beat USC at home. The ASU/Wisconsin game I feel would have been ugly had Wisconsin played decent. You can go game by game if you but as a whole I firmly believe the PAC10 is easily the second worse major confrence this year. |

I think two for sure and maybe even three. Wisconsin and Ohio State for certain and maybe even and early season Iowa. It really depends on when they played them in the schedule with the exception of Ohio State who was pretty consistant minus the Wisconsin game. The PAC10 is weak, almost Big East weak the past couple years and I think Auburn will crush them for the National Championship. The real test for Auburn won't be winning the title but being allowed to keep it two years down the road. |

That's because they've had their ass kissed for their entire football lives and in all likelyhood have benefitted from scewjobs. So they just assume it will continue and then they end up getting burned. They then end up leaving college and driving around with bottles of Grey Goose, AK-47's and bullett proof vests. |

How appropriate. |
| 2 years 22 weeks ago | Almost forgot |
With all the attention on recruiting and negative press swirling around the D (both of which are deserved) I almost forgot about the guys redshirting. It would be more then helpful to the D if these guys could contribute quality minutes next year with the loss of Mouton. |

I was just quoting the ESPN write up on him. Besides, I'm more interested in the "consistent" portion of the article. I think a lot of the kids in the secondary had some really good moments but as soon as they made a great play (yes there were a few) someting evilbad happend on the next one. If this kid can just be good every game I will good with that. |

Anything is possible when enough people are pissed off! |
| 2 years 22 weeks ago | Iowa Hybrid |
The Iowa robot is powered by a hybrid system of lithium ion batteries and blow but generally is not harmful to the public. However Spartybot does have a glitch where it offends laws repeatably but any reprogramming must wait until the football season is finished. |
| 2 years 22 weeks ago | I believe so |
They are still looking at jumping into the Big East but the story I saw said the study to determine if they jump may take a while. I bet they wait until the Big East is about to implode and become a Conference USA or WAC level conference, losing their AQ status. |
| 2 years 22 weeks ago | Good for them! |
When they were in A2 they played great and I though their fans where really classy. We had a blast with a group of UMass fans and players parents before and after the game. Plus they were very appreciative of little things like me offering to take a picture of them in front of the stadium after the game. I think they will do well in the MAC. Just watch out for Rufus! |
| 2 years 22 weeks ago | I like |
Right now there is nothing, I repeat nothing wrong with "very well-rounded, reliable and consistent". In fact I would take that all day long given how inconsistent the secondary has been really for a number of years. |
| 2 years 22 weeks ago | GERG? |
Is that you Coach Robinson? |
| 2 years 23 weeks ago | Wow! |
Look how "mighty" that duck is comming out of the ice! To be fair though that team never had a chance to have a decent jersey being saddled with such a horrible name. Since they dropped the 'Mighty' part the current ones aren't too horrible. |

Disingenuous is also a synonym for an article written by many Detroit newspaper sports writers. |
| 2 years 23 weeks ago | Hmmm |
Maybe Pelini will have an hour long show on a network to tell everyone he's taking his screaming to South Beach? |
| 2 years 23 weeks ago | Their time is now |
This home stretch is huge in determining what their postseason looks like. If they win a good majority you might make a case for a NCAA bid and perhaps clinch an NIT bid. If they stink this part of their schedule up they could be in big trouble. I just have a feeling the conference schedule will be very tough for them with Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin being very strong. Then you have Purdue (no Hummel), Minnesota, and Indiana who are beatable but will be better than decent. |

That is all. |

I completely agree. His article reminds me of a crappy paper I put together at lunch in high school because I didn't take the time the night before to do it right. Except mine were self-absorbed character hit pieces. I just feel stupid for clicking on it. |
