the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

That's funny - didn't realize it was that high. And I've never gotten a warning letter for this - have several for downloading tv shows. I recognize their rights but think it's silly to harass people for that. Is any of this connected to this new initiative they have in conjunction with the five or so big cable providers? I'm guessing not. They have some kind of increased surveillance going on to find torrents and the cable providers are agreeing to step up the pressure on users. Started in February. |

Thanks but not looking for a game. I seed a lot of torrents and was wondering if you still had all the stats. I have a lot of the games from the last few years and have always been a willing sharer |

| 2 weeks 6 days ago | Jacksonville is the team the |
Jacksonville is the team the NFL has identified as the most likely "London" team, at least partly because of their lack of success in Jacksonville as a franchise. IIRC they are going to start playing a few games per year in the not too distant future and if all goes well relocate permanently. The new owner has no ties to Jacksonville and is reportedly fully on board. Denard could be a big hit over there. |

"Poor Man's Tim Duncan" describes just about every big man in the NBA for the last 12 years or so which makes it not a very meaningful comparison. There are very few as good or better than Tim Duncan so what does that tell you? |

If we only lose Burke, as good as he is, with Albrecht and the recruits coming in, and the maturing of Stauskas, GRIII and McGary, we could be a better team next year. |

Add the early missed goal tend to this and you just have to wince |
| 5 weeks 5 days ago | Really saying the same thing |
Really saying the same thing - he was taking shots in a manner in which he wasn't comfortable. It wasn't just an off shooting night in the way you normally think of it. His normal shot just wasn't available. I expect him to bounce back tomorrow night. |
| 5 weeks 5 days ago | It wasn't so much that he |
It wasn't so much that he shot poorly against Syracuse as he couldn't get the shots he likes. To their credit, unlike Florida, Syracuse took them away - he got a couple of rushed jumpers and one off a dribble. To our coaches' credit they pulled him. As Stauskas gains more experience he'll handle that pressure better. He should get more space Monday night and hit some - one reason why I like Michigan in this game. |

Would you now like to got back and re-call every close play in the game? Come on, that's for the losers. For the record it was a charge - check the game stats. |
| 6 weeks 1 day ago | I agree on your points |
I agree on your points generally. However, I would think that suspending and significantly fining the basketball coach at a major university would take it outside of day-to-day operations. If nothing else it could impact PR and the fund raising activities the President is engaged in. The University President should want to know details of what happened. |

| 7 weeks 3 days ago | Was at that game and as far |
Was at that game and as far as I can recall there were no complaints. Things were different then - we routinely played out of conference road games. We were also pulling a fair number of players from the New England area at that time (e.g. McMurtry) which may have been an influence. I think Desmond Howard returned the second half kickoff for a touchdown to turn that game - he was running right towards me. Memories like that are what get me pumped about going to this game in East Hartford. |
| 7 weeks 3 days ago | Rentschler/East Hartford |
I live in Southern CT and have been to all the stadiums in the area many times. Putting aside the issue of who gets what revenue, for anyone going to the game the preference by far should be UConn's stadium in East Hartford - it isn't even close. Why anyone would prefer to fight their way to the Meadowlands or Foxboro is beyond comprehension. Rentschler has easy access by both car and plane, is a relatively new, nice facility, and at 40,000 a great place to see a game. The reason they put it there was for the access - I can't understand wanting to see this game anyplace else. Anyone going that hasn't been there before is going to love it. Besides, I'm not convinced they could sell 70-80,000 seats. For starters a lot of people in CT would stay home and watch on TV rather than endure the nightmare travel. |

I was joking of course - and was truly surprised when I checked their site and they had football. Those Canadiens are troopers. McGill is a great school in a great setting. My daughter is at Michigan now but we visited McGill when she was looking and we would have been very happy if she went there. |

I was at the game and it was a good night despite the loss. I live in Fairfield so know a lot of people on their side - very positive and non-hostile crowd. Everyone I talked to was impressed with Michigan, particularly with their effort, hustle, and of course the goaltender. Michigan went down early 4-1, came back to tie and it was close the rest of the way. A lot of Michigan people there - fun night. |
| 9 weeks 4 days ago | I still don't get why he's so |
I still don't get why he's so upset about what someone did to the program before he got there. If it wasn't wrecked he never would have gotten the job. |
| 9 weeks 4 days ago | Come on. Look how far things |
Come on. Look how far things have progressed. the thing that's missed with that kind of attitude is that this is one of the prices of success - big losses. When you're at the top, in big games, you're going to lose on average half the time against comparable opponents. This one hurt a lot but it's going to happen. The alternative is to not be in these huge games and you never have to suffer the pain. If you get to the final four and lose a game like this it really, really sucks, but would you rather not be there? Regardless I would still prefer to go down with class - it doesn't mean we put out less effort or wanted it less. A guy like Crean is a total self-absorbed moron and I don't really want to go there - and this was after he won. The season isn't over and we may see them again - I would prefer the last laugh. |

Good find on Wooden - he's shouting for a timeout. He was never a screamer. I get your point but I'm happy with Beilein and his demeanor. I don't completely disagree with you but don't think it is all systemic. A lot of it should get better with age and experience. I also agree that Hardaway is not improving as much as you would hope in certain areas and will not be surprised if he's back next year. To me the biggest problems in these last 4-5 games have been the absence of Morgan (back against MSU but I don't think 100%) and more importantly the wilting of Stauskas and Robinson on offense. The reason he values the charging calls so much is they exact a large penalty, especially if the player who charged was about to score. They lose the basket and get hit with a foul on the same play. The lost score doesn't show in the stats but it's real. |

| 13 weeks 1 day ago | Google "John Wooden angry" |
Google "John Wooden angry" and see what you get...I think he knew something about coaching basketball. Seriously though I appreciate the analysis but it's based on a few rough games in a brutal stretch of the schedule. Good defense is about moving your feet and being in position and these freshman are still learning. I think they hit a patch here where the thinking probably dulled the reactions and caused some hesitation. I'm looking for a bounce back toward the end of the season and hopefully a tournament ready team. This is a young team and it showed Tuesday night. Sparty looked bigger and older and I think for the first time we really got overwhelmed - it's a learning experience - these coaches know how to pick them back up and I expect them to. |
| 13 weeks 1 day ago | That's the thing - they don't |
That's the thing - they don't make a concious decision. It's impulsive behavior. If they have a gun they shoot - if not they hit. Unfortunately in this case he had a gun. |
| 14 weeks 1 day ago | I don't see why Phil's |
I don't see why Phil's hometown newspaper wouldn't want to do some digging and run hard with this story. You state as a given that they are struggling and thus preoccupied with "crime, serious corruption, or serious societal issues". Isn't this something that could land them on the front page of ESPN, CNN and the like? Everyone would be racing to the newsstand. There is no way people in that town don't know what happened. |
| 14 weeks 1 day ago | Even with the well documented |
Even with the well documented deficiencies we've had in recent years I don't see why it is apparent we had less overall talent than either Virginia Tech or South Carolina. |
| 14 weeks 1 day ago | The Big Ten will always have |
The Big Ten will always have to contend with the fact that certain schools like Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and probably Indiana and Purdue, are not in states that produce the quantity of football talent that exists in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and most of the SEC states. To call them out on not keeping up is lame and classless. Is Minnesota going to start grabbing top talent from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Alabama? Never, so they have to constantly fight to keep up. Plus, they don't cheat like Ohio and the SEC. Basketball of course is a different story and the entire Big Ten excels relative to the SEC. Urban Meyer is a self-absorbed asshole. |

Completely disagree - he more than held his own. He was mostly one-on-one against the best defensive lineman in college football and kept him silent except for a few plays. I was addressing the proposition that all SC wins were "comfortable". Thank you for the additional but unrelated information. Pardon any hint of sarcasm. I've just had enough of the SC lovefest and I think we're going to beat them. |
| 19 weeks 4 days ago | They barely beat Vanderbilt |
They barely beat Vanderbilt 17-13...but yes they did beat Wofford 24-7. Yeah they are good but let's not get carried away. If we can get Denard, Gardner, or Gallon for that matter, behind their front four we will have an advantage. Their ends come very hard and fast and the defense behind them is fair at best. Not saying Borges will get it done but that's where Michigan can do damage. |
| 20 weeks 4 days ago | I generally agree with you |
I generally agree with you except on one point. That a larger player should be able to handle the force may be true on the hit itself but not when that player subsequently hits the ground - the greater mass and speed he is carrying will then work against him, especially when his neck and head slam down. I'm not in any way saying it should or should not have been called but the play in the OP is a good example - if that hit were lower his head would not have shot back with the same force. |

The only time a team would risk a 4th and 15 from their own 30 is when they are behind, hence the greater opportunity for comebacks. Hard to imagine a team doing it while ahead. Also on average the field postion from the punt will probably be better than from the kickoff. I do however strongly agree with you on the facemasks and head leading. |

The problem with running it on 3rd down is it would have much less chance of success. The fact is it was pretty much open if he threw it somewhere near the receiver. I'm still not saying he should or shouldn't have called it, but if he was going to 1st down was the best shot. |

You're right and I generally dislike this type of analysis for the reasons you mentioned. However in this case I do think his overall point is valid - compared to what the other SEC teams did vs. Alabama last year we look at least as good as most of them. And that includes LSU to a degree - they were shutout 21-0 and didn't cross midfield in one game. |

| 37 weeks 6 days ago | partially agree |
Agree on the D-Line, though I think that is pretty much the same in analyzing any team's chances. If you can stop the run and pass pressure with the front four you are obviously way ahead of the game. With Denard I disagree that he is secondary, though partly in a negative sense. Our success against Alabama, and beyond, will hinge on him not committing turnovers, particularly interceptions. I think Denard will prove to be a formidable weapon vs. Alabama - he just can't give anything back by throwing it away. Alabama runs a relatively conservative offense and that's what their defense sees in practice - they aren't familiar with defending a QB like Denard - they could have problems. If our D-Line can at least stand up, and turnovers are minimized, we can beat Alabama. |

Just an FYI - the game is not actually in Storrs, it's in East Hartford, which FWIW is very accessible by car or plane. It's small but if you were going to go from a distance the logistics are pretty easy. Also, there could easily be 20K M fans there for that game - might actually be fun. |

Set mine last night. I had been wondering when ours was coming. They obviously want the best at the end. |
| 38 weeks 5 days ago | slow down the camera |
Someone has to explain to the person with the camera that you can't move it that fast from side to side - all you get is blurred vision and a sore neck after 20-30 identical slant passes. |

It could be he's thought about concussion risk and decided to pursue another sport he is equally good at, and may like more. |

There are many worse things to double post. This deserves a pass. |
| 39 weeks 5 days ago | I'm sure he'll sit at least |
I'm sure he'll sit at least the first half, probably the whole game, but there's no reason to tell Saban that now. Saban will assume he will play because that's what he would probably choose were he in Hoke's position. Let him prepare for that and also any alternative. |
| 40 weeks 9 hours ago | I've had a feeling for a |
I've had a feeling for a while this was the case with Gardner and it's unfortunate. Gardner is unfortunate but the worst redshirt burn in recent years was Campbell followed closely by Denard. Imagine both Denard and Campbell this year as redshirt juniors with another year to go. Campbell was a real waste - given his current conditioning if he was looking at two more years he would be set up for a major impact - not that he can't be great this year. |

| 40 weeks 4 days ago | My understanding was they |
My understanding was they formally agreed to the sanctions so that should be the end of it. In that sense they're appealing their own decision. Their rationale was they wanted to get the NCAA part behind them and move on. This is more of internal fight than an appeal to the NCAA, at least in essence. |
| 40 weeks 6 days ago | I understand the analogy but |
I understand the analogy but boxing and football are so far apart I don't think they're comparable. Boxing is a sport whose stated objective is to punch a person until they're unable to get to their feet. Football is rough but is also a team sport played from middle school through high school and in backyard pickup games and 2-3 person catches. Yes more and more kids will stay out of organized football but the interest will not fade quickly like it did with boxing. |
| 40 weeks 6 days ago | we could all just stay home |
Not to mention leaving your house and walking down the street...life is full of risks. Some are more with taking than others, the big difference between smoking and football being that smoking does you zero good, while football brings joy and happiness to all it touches. The goal should be to try and make football safer, not lump it in with smoking. |

ACs #1 wasn't retired, and Braylon didn't wear a patch honoring AC. And other players wore #1 between AC and Braylon without any reference to AC. Having said that I like them wearing the retired numbers with the patches. |

| 41 weeks 3 days ago | Agree with that and have |
Agree with that and have always considered Goldeneye a favorite. Excellent cast, well written and acted, and Tina Turner's awesome theme. Epic opening sequence. For some reason, and I do think it is mostly the writing, by Brosnan's last Bond they had gone way off the rails. I read an interview with one of the producers who admitted the Bourne movies were what forced them to recognize how nutty the Bonds series had become, hence the return to a more gritty, realistic tone with Craig. Many hardcore fans of the books consider Timothy Dalton closest to Ian Fleming's literary Bond. |

That pretty much sums it up. I went from Blackberry to iPhone one year ago and the only thing that suffered was email...and even that doesn't seem too much worse. Though I will be looking Android next |
| 42 weeks 2 days ago | You added that he didn't want |
You added that he didn't want to be a Wolverine. You have no idea whether that is true. He may in fact want to be a Wolverine very badly, can't get playing time, so decided to try and place somewhere else. Leave it at that. |
| 42 weeks 4 days ago | good for one year |
It's essentially a one year deal, until Gardner comes back. They have similar skill sets - fast, good field, good arm. The Yankees need him to be okay, not a star. |
| 43 weeks 1 day ago | I'm okay with this and would |
I'm okay with this and would be in favor of it. I also recognize it would relegate them to being a second-tier program for a long time, at least ten years. There would be a lot of empty seats and local business would suffer marginally, but not disastrously. This seems about right and more than fair to PSU. Let's see if the NCAA has it in them. |

| 44 weeks 4 days ago | It was in fact just a little |
It was in fact just a little bit of dark internet humor. However in some situations it's not as crazy as it sounds. Actually, rather than reformatting, you could replace the boot drive with a new one, reinstall everything, and keep the original as a backup/data drive. That is the surest way to get rid of any really bad stuff and preserve your content. Other ways may seem more painless but if they don't completely eradicate the problem the real pain will keep on coming. |
| 44 weeks 5 days ago | I was actually mostly joking. |
I was actually mostly joking. Please don't run that command unless you are sure of what you are doing. It reformats the drive, erasing all data. It will however eliminate all existing problems and give you a fresh start. If you can reinstall the OS and all programs, and have everything backed up, it is an option worth considering. But don't do it unless you are absolutely sure.
|
| 44 weeks 5 days ago | format c: |
format c: Probably the most underutilized command in computer maintenance. Seriously though, keep everything constantly backed up and don't be afraid to reinstall and start over. |
| 45 weeks 2 days ago | The point is though, what is |
The point is though, what is the alternative? Postulating a theory, then seeking evidence to support or refute it, is fundamental to scientific research. It doesn't mean you have pre-conceived ideas that are not open to change. It provides a formalized structure for experimentation. One of the great comments out of CERN today (saw it this morning but don't recall which scientist made it) was that it would actually be more exciting if the Higgs-Boson were not found because it would mean everything was more complicated than they thought. |
| 45 weeks 3 days ago | keep going |
Are you going to share with us your alternative methodology? |
| 46 weeks 1 day ago | If someone shoots really high |
If someone shoots really high but doesn't quite make it there is nothing lost for having tried, and a lot to be gained from the experience. Worrying about it not ending well would probably eliminate any chance for success. That's not how good things get done. |

| 46 weeks 4 days ago | he's okay |
I always kind of liked him - as much as I can like an Ohio player - so this is unfortunate. He's not super-athletic to begin with so any falloff could be really damaging. He played hard, came back for the second year, so no animosity toward him. If he goes low a good team may get a bargain role player. |
| 47 weeks 4 days ago | Agreed. Amazing how a few |
Agreed. Amazing how a few idiots can ruin something for everyone else. I suspected maybe it was a relatively small handful yelling the most obnoxious stuff but can't say for sure - it was not a lot at any one time. Screaming "Go USA" after MacDowell hit his opening tee shot was particularly obnoxious. I noticed he laughed it off but it sounded idiotic. It has gotten bad enough that I'm surprised they aren't trying to grab the shouters and stop it but that may not be feasible. |

Humidity affects the entire ball so has no effect on the consistency of spin. It's having the liquid, however thin, on only one part of the ball that causes the irregular aerodynamics. It's like having a mudball in golf. If he didn't think it worked he wouldn't take the risk. |

| 1 year 1 week ago | okay |
I'll always remember it because it was my first game at Michigan Stadium and it was all new to me. It was raining. It was a sluggish game, a lot of rumbling about Hewlett, and Wangler being cheered on entering. I thought someone threw a TD to AC that won it - must have been Hewlett. The 1980 team had a slow start but by the end of the year was clearly as good as anyone in the country. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | Again going strictly off |
Again going strictly off memory but didn't Wangler also come in to the Northwestern game to pull it out? That game was very close to being a major disaster. IIRC that was the NW team that hadn't won in 30+ games. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | They run a brief rookie camp |
They run a brief rookie camp after the draft and need the bodies - if one of them surprises they can keep him - if not they move on. It really doesn't hurt anyone. The player gets a short look at what he's up against and maybe gets a chance someplace else. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | This is strictly off memory - |
This is strictly off memory - 80 was my first year at Michigan - I don't think AC was significantly hurt at all that year. There was actually a moderate QB contoversy to begin the season as Bo had Rich Hewlett starting the first game before going back to Wangler. I don't know about stats but Wangler overall had a great year. They almost lost to to Northwestern in the first game - Hewlett played ineffectively - lost close ones to ND and South Carolina, then ran the table for Bo's first Rose Bowl. Wangler, despite coming off the knee injury, was excellent throughout. AC sorely missed him the next few years. |
