watch me get censored by this "non political" site before you, however

The (non)enforcement of the no politics "rule" on this site is about as poltical as it can get.
Agreed upon poltiics=good.
At the risk of being banned by the latter rule: one can reasonably make the argument that MORE government spending on infrastructure etc. would help our nation.
So let's maybe stick to football.

Taking this tragedy and heroism as an opportunity for ignorant nativist french-bashing is embarassing to read. Interesting how the supposed "no politics" rule of this site really means only "no politics that challenge the dominant paradigm". Semper Fi, Vive la France and Go Blue.

I guess I really meant all upper classmen with starting experience to start the season. My guess is it's rare.

And the truly sad part is that once a brand starts to be marketed in a cheap manner, it is very difficut to reverse course and carve out the classy and unique image. For all the successes that people may see in Brandon's efforts, stunts like piped in music and clowniforms have cheapened the whole enterprise.

|1 year 47 weeks ago||Show-cause?||
Didn't he leave Tenn with a show-cause penalty? (or whatever the proper term is).
|1 year 47 weeks ago||I appreciate the attempt to be balanced here. BUT||
There are clearly both environmental and genetic components. I would argue that there is not "a" genetic abnormality, but rather a very large suite of genotypes that can predispose toward autism. If it were "a" single allele (gene variant) then we would ahve found it by now. When you combine a very large number of predisposing gene variants with environmental effects that themselves may vary with genotype, you get things that are very hard to nail down, like autism, adult onset diabetes, multiple sclerosis and on and on. You are right that there well may be an immune system connection (overly simplified: growing up in too sterile of environments seems to be causing us all sorts of problems).
That said, one envrionmental area that has been looked at extensively is the possible effect of vaccines. NO FLIPPING EVIDENCE AT ALL. NONE! It is not balanced to say that since it is complex and we do not know everything that everything is on the table. We have ruled out vaccines as causing autism. It is a deadly suggestion and not part of a balanced treatment.

No offense to Georgia (my wife is an alum and Athens is fun and loaded with tradition) and I'd love to see the series, but academically speaking (AAU membership and rankings), Florida comes out on top.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Flakes||
1. Devin is going to be a national star. He has poise in the pocket and turns sacks into first downs. As other have noted, the Vince Young comparisons are spot on. Maybe they should stop and he will just be Devin Gardner. More outings like this and Heisman talk will ramp up. The derp play sucked but a safety could have been 2 +7 instead of 7 right?
2. Jeremy Gallon. Wow.
3. Brady Hoke (shrugs and smiles) is WAAAYYYY more likeable than Brian Kelly (did you see the f bombs launched at his players early on?).
4. Notre Dame looked pretty damn good.
5. Fuck Notre Dame.
|2 years 22 weeks ago||Love it!||
I was at that game with my Dad on about the 20 yard line maybe 20 rows up on that corner of the field. Totally awesome surpise during a nerve-wracking game. My dad immediately yelled "There's an All-American!". Yep. He did not predict Heisman at that time.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||Thanks for the meme propagation||

And god I managed to completely block out that UC-B disaster. The only reason they are not on the list is due to how badly they have sucked the last 15 years or so.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||Sort of what I meant||
, but ill-stated on my part. I was a youngun' and the early losses hurt. It got burned in during the 4 run stretch.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||Notre Dame||
Far and away it's Notre Dame #1 for me. I cannot stand the program, their smarmy entitled players, asshole coaches, and fawning press. That feeling got seated early for me with their dominance over us when the series resumed in the late 70s. I simply had to root for other teams to stop them when we could not. I would like them to lose every game forever. I do pull for BIG teams over non-conference foes to help with conference image and the prestige of winning the conference, so no overriding hate for OSU or MSU. Within the BIG I typically want UM to be the one to beat OSU, so I do not explicitly pull against them (or little bro for that matter). Outside of the BIG I have to say USC and UCLA can lose every game and I would laugh (again bad memories against them). I have UW, Oregon and UGA connections so cannot hate there. I guess Alabama could lose every game and that would be fun. Fat chance.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||I'll have to investigate ;)||
But that playcalling never gets old. It had to be what every ND fan was thinking, minus the multiple f bombs.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||Right||
An Irish Catholic school with a butchered french name in the middle of Amish country.
|2 years 23 weeks ago||To hell with Notre Dame!||
I actually despise them more than that school down south. Losses to them suck worse for me than losses to other rivals. I ALWAYS root for ND to lose (which thankfully they do a lot) and I typically root for any BIG team against nonconference foes. The OSU program may be extremely shady and has too many players tending toward thugs, but the ND program and players are smarmy, whiny, privileged, pampered and thoroughly overrated. Here's hoping for another 38-0 rout this year. This string of nail biters has gone on too long.

SO MUCH FUN!
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Can I also say||
I love this technology! If one of you geniuses could post something similar for highlights of the 1989 run---low resolution and all-- you would be sure to win accolades. Glen Rice raining them in? Rumeal's ordeal at the line?
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Looking back||
(which is what we're doing I know), it's Spike. That sequence made me almost text my Gator fan friend to gloat in a game made for gloating. Looking forward, it's Burke to GRIII. That sort of play is what's going to win the championship.
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Who's turn is it? Robinson?||
Throughout the tournament, Burke has obviously been steady, cool and spectacular, and McGary's been a consistent machine. That's going to continue. Stauskas blew up (or blew back up) against Florida, but we cannot count on his going 6 for 6 again. So who's turn is it? Hardaway or Robinson finding a groove will be enough to win this game. Either would be fine, but I'd really love for it to be Robinson. Dude has so much talent taking it to the hole, but seems too shy to use it consistently. A "lights on" weekend for him is what I'm really hoping to see. Blow that zone apart. Go blue!
|2 years 45 weeks ago||Love it!||
Will power is a real thing, not just a cliche, and not to be underestimated. Burke has it in spades, and it seems to be infectious on his teammates. Go Blue!

|4 years 11 weeks ago||Writing as a Professor||
, I advise an early, courteous email explaining your absence, and your willingness to go the extra mile to get caught up. For most profs that should do the trick. Of course some profs might not give a damn about football, or might even be hostile to the idea of accommodating a football game. There is very little recourse in that unfortunate situation--it is highly unlikely that the institution steps in. Again, an early courteous email will uncover that situation too.
Also consider that any hint of entitlement might turn off even sympathetic profs. The "email the professor and tell them to deal with it" comment above, while maybe in jest, is terrible prof-management advice. Let them know you value the academics first.
And as a last straw, you could always try bribing them. Everyone bribes people ;)
|4 years 11 weeks ago||OSU was just fired up for The Game.||

They are on a roll and look to be the SEC runners up.
|4 years 13 weeks ago||They are a fine team||
who happen to choke a lot. They also have a fine coach who happens to turn purple occasionally. Be nice to them.
|4 years 13 weeks ago||both might happen||
Badgers whoop them in the championship game and then the Dawgs whoop them in a Bowl Game.
|4 years 13 weeks ago||9-7||
at the half sounds about right. I'd double that to 18-14 for the final score. Lots of fun ways to get to 18 points!
|4 years 14 weeks ago||I was impressed how||
the 2QB sets progressed through the game. I think Toussaint's td was set up nicely by the previous (not so successful) 2QB plays. Truly looking forward to more of those formations!
|4 years 14 weeks ago||Madison is rather like Ann Arbor||
but as you say it is bigger, with lakes. It is also without a nearby decaying metropolis and it is distinctly more left leaning. I have not been to all the B1G campus towns (missing Happy Valley and now Lincoln), but Madison might be the nicest. There are good reasons it always makes the list of the top places to live in the country.
|4 years 14 weeks ago||70% chance we beat OSU?||
I hope you're right on that, but I would not put money on those chances.
Interesting analysis however.
|4 years 14 weeks ago||Big10 is tough to figure||
but I think Wisconsin is still the best team, even with two conference losses. Their path to the conference championship game might be too narrow, but if they get there, I would wager that they beat whoever comes out of the Legends.
|4 years 15 weeks ago||It would have been fun||
to see RR's UM offense behind a quarterback with more than one year as a starter. It does seem like timing issues are critical and RR was very unlucky in what he inherited. Anyway...bygones (and the defense did suck).
|4 years 29 weeks ago||Excellent!||
Thanks for the post. I cannot wait! I was immediately hooked last season and during the off season I went back and watched probably every zombie movie that was ever made. TWD stands among the very best of the genre (original Dawn of the Dead is the best). Plus I was Steven Yeun's (Glenn) professor his freshman year in college so there is added personal satisfaction in the show's success.
|5 years 26 weeks ago||so excellent!||

I'd wager Tony gets more than one Big Ten Championship and one appearance (OK with the W!) in a MNC game.
|5 years 26 weeks ago||Yes. Act with confidence and that breeds more confidence.||
I love this move. It hearkens to the days of scheduling FSU and Colorado and UCLA and Washington and Oregon. Sure there were some real gut wrenching heartbreaks, but there were also some miracles. And they were nationally important games--like Michigan should have.
I believe we will beat Alabama since we ( on average) own the SEC.

Assuming Nebraska to the Big10 happens, it is likely only the first move of a multi-move game.
And it looks like a smart one. It forces action from other conferences--Big12/Pac10 obviously and then Pac10 and then SEC and then Big East--that will likely net the Big10 what it really wants (ND), but could not get right away. And if not, well then a 12 team conference with Nebraska is still pretty sweet. As a Big10 fan, I'd rather the conference be proactive and start the whole process than be reactive to the Pac10.
I think when the dust is settled this will look like a brilliant opening move. Texas was never happening. A 14 team conference with Nebraska, ND, and one of several other eastern schools? Nice conference! We could not get that in one swoop, but move by move it will happen.
Unless of course this is all bogus news.....
