I can't even fathom the thought of mentioning George Rogers to my father. He would disown me. His allegiance to Clemson forbade anyone in the house from mentioning his name.
My parents are actually pretty cool. They watched a 6 year old little boy turn into a Michigan Wolverine out of nowhere. They couldn't understand why their sweet precious boy right in the middle of Clemson country wasn't a Tiger...much less why he was a Wolverine fan.
I actually took them to the Big House for a game in 2008. My dad said something like this:
(Paraphrased) "Clemson might be louder and the fans might get into it a little more, but I have never been to a stadium like this. Its like hallowed ground."

Exactly. 99.8% of the fans who don't read MGoBlog also watched Tate throw 5 picks against Ohio State in the final game of the season.
I still think the majority of our fanbase wants to see Denard line up at QB rather than Tate. Even though Shoelace threw way too many INT's, fans saw his speed. Even those who don't follow Michigan's offseason are hoping that Robinson can get enough of the offense down to showcase what a true burner looks like in Rodriguez's system.

I actually feel kinda bad for Tate. This is purely my opinion, but I think Forcier will take the first snap against UConn. Of course nobody in the stadium would "Boo" but I do think majority of the fans would be disappointed that Shoelace wasn't starting.
There were rumors of Tate transferring after Rodriguez started trying Robinson a little more at QB. Imagine if Shoelace actually starts some games. The rumor-mill will explode.
I want to win, period. Tate, Denard, Gardner...Kennedy. Just win.

I like the idea of the pulley though. Bottom line: I suck on defense. The 3-3-5 helps out guys like me who can score at will but can't stop anyone on D.
It just depends on your tastes and experiences (Thats what she said). I got tired of running the 4-3 and having online opponents dance around in the backfield for an eternity only to launch 63 yard TD bombs.
The 3-3-5 honestly isn't that bad against the run. Blitzing is fun out of it and I have more opponents settle for field goals than giving up big play TD's.
You are right about the RB/FB out of the backfield though. I usually like to play with a LB selected but I switched over to my DE's in the 3-3-5. Thats honestly about the best chance for me in that situation...to catch a RB's route with a DE.

|6 years 18 weeks ago||Start as a Freshman: Cullen||
Start as a Freshman: Cullen Christian - With our depth, I think he is a near lock to start. Not sure if it will be the opening game, but at least half of the season.
Surprise [offense]: Stephen Hopkins - I think this is one of our most underrated commits. Hopkins is an absolute bruiser.
Surprise [defense]: Courtney Avery - He seems to have more "game speed". I think Avery has the potential to really contribute to the team, much faster than we expect. He might not deliver bone-crushing hits for the highlight reel but the kid is a sure tackler...something we have missed the past couple of years.
Overachieve: I'm also going to go with Davion Rogers. He has the potential to be a monster with the Barwis program. Rogers has a good frame and could be a major beneficiary of a redshirt year.
Be the "First off the Bus" (a.k.a. most physically intimidating): Has to be Marvin Robinson. Nothing else to say other than he is a freak.
Boom or bust: Jibreel Black. I think he goes either way. Rankings vary on the kid. I don't think his offer list is as good as some others make it out to be. Don't get me wrong though, I'm extremely happy we landed Black. I love this kid's motor.
Take a redshirt: Jordan Paskorz. I'm not going to say any WR for this one. RR has a very open competition and there is no telling how some of the WR's will perform. I simply don't think Paskorz will be ready to contribute on the field as a freshman. 100% redshirt.
Switch positions: Does Josh Furman count? Ah, then I have to agree on Conelius Jones. By saying that, I don't necessarily feel that he WILL change...I just think he has the best chance to. Most of our guys will end up where they were recruited for. I personally think Jones stays at QB...but may be used in weird packages.
Dominate youtube: Has to be 100%, without a doubt...Demar Dorsey. Cissoko brought an annoying version of "swag". Dorsey has that infectious version of it. I can't guarantee his success as a football player but I think he is going to entertain the hell out of us.
Be a team captain: Ricardo Miller. No other answers are acceptable.
Be the #1 pick: Devin Gardner. We racked up on S, CB and WR this year. Those typically aren't No. 1 draft picks. We landed good kids at DE and DT but not elite. That alone gives Gardner the best chance to win this superlative.
Win the Heisman: The only school to have a defensive player win the Heisman...will do it AGAIN with Cullen Christian. The only way he does it is if Dorsey teaches him a thing or two. Woodson had that swagger...Christian will have to get some too.

I don't think we can use Mario in the argument. Manningham could have been even better than he was but there was no way he was getting that jersey from Carr. Manningham was fantastic at Michigan but his attitude and off the field *ahem* activities kept him from any chances of receiving #1.
If Ricardo can prove on the field that he is deserving of it, he will definitely get it. Even as a freshman, he has the character to earn it. He is more mature than most upperclassmen.

I know many people complain about the massive amounts of RB's and WR's that will be at Michigan. The glass half full version:
We are going to have ferocious position battles. Competition only makes the players better so we're definitely going to see these guys giving it their all to get on the field. Should be a very exciting time.
I think Fitz is a lock to get some great playing time. Although RR's offense has been tinkered with a bit, he seems to be the type of RB Rodriguez really wants on his team. We're gonna see a healthy dose of all these guys though.
|6 years 28 weeks ago||I tend to disagree that||
I tend to disagree that Boston College would be a bad fit. That isn't a knock on you.
Even with the points that have already been made, I just don't see how a Syracuse or Rutgers could fit the mold of a "Big 10 team" while Boston College does not. I'd really REALLY like to have BC in the conference over Rutgers or Syracuse.
Boston College has just as much national attention as Northwestern or Minnesota. The college is private and a religious institution, but so what? Notre Dame is too, they are just larger.
Boston College has terrific academics, a great athletic program and IME, would produce ample amounts of attention. I hope we include their name along with Pitt and Mizzou.

Giving you a +1 since somebody negged you for no apparent reason. The negging has gotten ridiculous around here. People SHOULD be allowed to complain when a million topics are made about one subject without the OP even looking first.
|6 years 31 weeks ago||I also live in ACC/SEC||
I also live in ACC/SEC country(Greenville, SC). Running into Buckeyes around here is a very unique experience. You are so far away physically from MI/OH that you feel somewhat detached. You would think this would calm nerves down but in my experiences, it has made things worse.
I run into Buckeye fans pretty frequently downtown or when I visit Charleston and it typically ends in shouting. I am a born and raised South Carolinian(...but the biggest Wolverine you will ever meet), so my usual response is telling Buckeyes to "Go back to America's asshole. South Carolina hates the Buckeyes". They usually end up telling me I'm not a real fan since I'm not from Michigan.
|6 years 32 weeks ago||I don't really know how to||
I don't really know how to say it. I definitely wouldn't call it a "feeling". Last year, I was optimistic as always but still way too nervous to have a good feeling about it.
I just have a sort of calm about this game. I definitely haven't felt this way about the OSU game before. All I know is we have a chance and I can't wait to see our boys take the field on Saturday. GO BLUE!
|6 years 32 weeks ago||Well, yeah. Of course we're||
Well, yeah. Of course we're up against it. It's a football game and we're the underdogs. I still don't see how admitting that we are the underdog in this game = "Well shit guys, we're gonna get our asses kicked. Lets not even show up".
This is why we play the game. Its called an upset and I personally believe we can pull one. Just like I believe we can win every single time Michigan steps out on that field.
|6 years 32 weeks ago||I'm not real sure what to||
I'm not real sure what to expect. It does seem that Tressel always tries some new shit in "The Game". I don't know how much trickery we should expect from Rodriguez. Hell, whatever it takes to win. They can run the "fumblerooskie" every play for all I care, as long as it puts up points.
|6 years 32 weeks ago||You won't get negged to hell||
You won't get negged to hell and back for "dissenting with the mob"...but you will get wrapped up in a neg-orgy because what you said was pretty stupid.
I don't care who the coach is, you really think he would stand up there and admit defeat before the game even started? Love him or hate him, Rodriguez hates to lose and he doesn't intend to go into the Big House and lose to our biggest rival.

I live in SC so I only get to travel to AA once a year. I saw my first Michigan-Ohio State game in 2007 and it was awful. Like previously mentioned, awful weather and terrible performance. Not to mention, having to deal with all the Buckeye fans chanting "WE LOVE LLOYD!" over and over.

There are a number of things I would give up.
* 2 year old bottle of Westvleteren 12.
I would actually give up or do every single one of those to ensure a win this Saturday.

Been to quite a few Clemson games throughout the years. Experienced Florida State and Virginia Tech in Death Valley along with the Miami game in 2005 which is the loudest I've ever heard that stadium. The youtube video of that game is unreal.
Here it is for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaJwiOjt9fE
I was at Miami @ FSU game this previous labor day which turned out to be a classic.
Been to Williams-Brice(SCar) once in my life. Never plan on going back. Place is an absolute dump and some of the most obnoxious fans I've ever encountered. I live 2 hours from Columbia.
Nothing compares to Michigan Stadium. I trek once a year to Ann Arbor and will be there for the Penn State game this year.

Easily 2009 for me.
I didn't think 2006 was going to be a bad year but I didn't expect 11-1 regular season either. If we would have been undefeated and played them say, I dunno, when we were 9-0 it may have been different.
But beating the hell out of them in 2006 was simply a surprise. This was just different. It does so much more than simply win. It starts to put Michigan back on the map. It does so much for Rodriguez. This previous win felt monumental for me.

Ah, my bad. I read literally every diary and post and somehow managed to miss it. Sorry fellas.
I'm not saying to refrain from yelling.

Kaiser is quite delicious.
I think I'm going to layer some of The Czar Imperial Stout on The Kaiser Imperial Oktoberfest and call it IVAN THE TERRIBLE.
Mostly cause it will taste terrible as those two beers do not belong together but fun nonetheless.

Somebody else please tell me they also caught the OSU female fan cheering for the wrong team after Navy scored that TD! Hilarious!

I usually tend to go polar opposites on game day beer.
Pabst Blue Ribbon is a must for me. But I always take advantage of this time of the year and drink Oktoberfest brews for the college football season. Stoudt's Oktoberfest and Avery's Imperial Oktoberfest are my choices for today.

Honestly, I think the best thing to do is find somebody nice enough to DVR it for you. And since you are involved in a church, it shouldn't be too difficult to find somebody.
Good luck and have fun today!

Herbie isn't bad but he REALLY needs to get off the Miami train. He says every single year that Miami is the team that could surprise. 2 years ago, he said Miami was a dark horse for the NC. Yeah. FAIL.
This morning he said Miami could upset FSU and be a very surprising team this year. Geez, get over Miami Herbie.
|6 years 42 weeks ago||I think the poster means||
I think the poster means something else. I'm not sure he used the best words to describe it.
What I think he MEANT to say (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that Dantonio is driven by an inferiority complex. The guy has a chip on his shoulder but for the wrong reason.
I want RR to coach like he has a chip on his shoulder but the last thing I want is a coach he feels the need to consistently bang his chest, talk junk to players and boast dominance over the state.
The "empty shell" comment is perfect.

Haha. I like it. Nice job.
North Texas vs. Ball State - Dear God. That looks awful on paper. It might look even worse in real life.
Charleston Southern vs. Florida - This is going to get REALLY ugly. Meyer will be playing 283rd stringers by the 3rd quarter. He may have to borrow seniors from the local retirement home for the 4th quarter.

I'm an out-of-towner and other than bars and what not, the only place I visit in The Brown Jug.
I don't particularly care for "nice" restaurants or the "best" A2 has to offer. The Brown Jug means more to me from an outside perspective because it is historic.
I get more out of a mediocre burger and beer for under $10 than spending $40 alone on appetizers at some really nice place in Ann Arbor.
I realize there are different strokes for different folks, but for me, I want to see Ann Arbor for its history of Michigan/Michigan football and the Jug provides that.

Thanks for sharing. I live in SC so now I know exactly which channel to be on so I don't miss the 3.57 seconds of the opening segment due to switching from the ABC to ESPN2 b/c the TV Guide is labeled wrong.

Morgan Trent seemed to get high praises during camp as well.
Vlad is scaring the crap out of me. I'm reading reports that he is looking extremely solid then reading 5 minutes later that he looks "completely lost".
|6 years 45 weeks ago||Why are we bitching?||
I really don't understand the complaining over the towel. I know you can't suit everyone but some of the actual reasons are beyond stupid.
For years, we've bitched about how depressing it is to watch our crowd cheer with enthusiasm rivaled only to watching the Barefoot Contessa chop up almonds for a picnic.
Then I read a complaint that this is "cheesy" and we should do something more Michigan oriented w/ tradition. Michigan has an assload of tradition but what tradition is reserved solely for the stadium? Throwing toilet paper rolls? Michigan Stadium doesn't have any traditions that involve fans other than the wave. We need something introduced to get fans off their ass.
And seriously, the over the top suggestion joke has gotten old. I can usually guess whats coming next after people start talking about "night games w/ RAWK NICKELBACK MUSIC". I was waiting for your SPARTY LASER OMG EYES comment to pop up next.
Now lets all have a brutal fistfight(or orgy depending on your perspective) over the color of Maize.
