That is a fair point, but I'm not too worried about ULL. We've already beaten them once this season (3-1 on February 22nd) and looking at their schedule, they don't really have a lot of terribly impressive Ws in there. A hot pitcher is always scary this time of year, but in a three-game set, I like our chances. That said, I also like our chances against LSU also - we'll see how it plays out. |

Umps gave Cal two free base runners in that inning (missed third strike that turned into a walk two pitches later and an incorrect ruling on a collision on the base paths), and we still get out of it unscathed! That last out scared me, but thankfully we tracked it down on the warning track. Huge win, now let's root for the Ragin' Cajuns to down LSU! |

I'm glad we get to face Wisconsin. It's frustrating that, in a 23-game conference schedule we don't manage to play everyone at least once, although the 3-game series set-up does have its advantages. The tournament creates the chance to rectify that a bit, though, letting us face some teams we haven't seen before. If we beat Wiscy, I hope we get a new opponent in the final as well - partly because Nebraska scares me, but mostly just because I want to face someone new. |

If memory serves, prior to the Penn State game in 1997, Jackson had some comments about the magnitude of the matchup, and then said, "And if that doesn't whet your whistle, you're watching the wrooooooong channel." It sticks in my head, because whatever any channel that has both Michigan & Keith Jackson is *obviously* the right channel! |

Any idea what it pays to play pro softball? I have to imagine it's enough to get by on reasonably well or no one would do it, but of course it can't be huge money either. Just something I was wondering about. |
| 1 week 6 days ago | One of my favorite things |
One of my favorite things about the non-revenue sports is you get way more 4-year players. There is a softball pro league, but it's a fairly minor affair (just 4 teams). The prestige is definitely in the college game, which has way more visibility (regularly on ESPN, BTN, etc.). So yes, we should definitely buckle up, because we are in for one hell of a ride. Romero is clearly the headliner among our young guns, but we also had four other underclassmen earn all-conference distinctions, three of which were first-team (we also had two upperclass first-team selections). Lots of talent and lots of youth - we will definitely be among the nation's elite, competing at the highest level for years to come! |
| 2 weeks 2 days ago | I hope you're right about |
I hope you're right about that NC! Always tough to say, because there are a lot of great teams out there, but we've got as good a chance as anyone, I'll definitely say that. With Haylie & Sara in the circle for two more years and the Sierras here for 3 more, I am really, really excited about the future. As I've been saying, B10 pitchers had better settle in, because it's going to be a long, rough ride for them trying to find answers for the foreseeable future. |
| 2 weeks 2 days ago | Boy, I dunno, I felt they |
Boy, I dunno, I felt they were working a little too hard to not seem pro-Michigan today. They were really nitpicking everything about Wagner's pitching all day the way I heard it. Maybe I'm oversensisitive about these things, but for someone who only gave up 1 run on 4 hits, there was a lot more criticism than I would've expected. |
| 2 weeks 3 days ago | Great game, glad it was on |
Great game, glad it was on BTN for our viewing enjoyment! Just an all-around team win. Multiple home-runs, good pitching & defense, every single player reached base safely at least once. Can't ask for more than that, although I would appreciate the announcers being a little less negative about Wagner - all she did was rack up her 18th win of the season, allowing only one run on 4 hits, but the commentators were ragging on her all day. Romero continues to intimidate B10 pitching. After jacking a 2-run shot in the first, she was walked 3 straight times, two intentional and one semi-intentional (once the count got to 3-1 and a passed ball opened up space at 1st, they just put her on). The most remarkable to me was when NW issued a free pass with no outs and a runner on 1st. That goes beyond respect, that is outright fear! Having her services will be a huge boost to the team for the rest of this season as well as for the next three! |

We'll likely be home for the regionals no matter what, since we're 12 in the RPI and 10 in both polls. It'd be a stretch for us the get high enough to host a super-regional, but we should be back at Alumni Field to start things off. |

| 2 weeks 4 days ago | Yeah, I really don't see a |
Yeah, I really don't see a 5-7 season as being within the range of potential outcomes. This is a really, really pessimistic prediction that is dependent on believing that there will be no O-line improvement, Gardner will not be as good as his numbers say, and the defense without Jake Ryan will be hamstrung. I just don't see that as likely at all. Gardner is a great fit for what Borges wants to do, we've got the best LT in America, and Mattison continues to head up the defense. We'll see, but a 7-5 season really seems like the worst-case scenario, if a lot of things go wrong, not a most-likely outcome. |

Also, as a bonus for any Ann Arborites going to Evanston, there is a bar there that took their entire deli menu from our very own Zingerman's. When they were opening, the Zingerman's guys let them come and observe them in their kitchen, etc., so they got all the inside info. I've only been there in the evening, so I can't vouch for the food directly, but it certainly has good credentials. The place is called Bat 17: http://www.bat17evanston.com/ |

Manziel's rise from obscurity to becoming the first player in history to win the prestigeous award as a freshman can, in large part, be credited to his work under Whitfield's guidance." That sounds alright to me! |

Looks like you're right - the BTN commentators were saying all day that we had a chance for a share with a win today. We did put Nebraska away, but Wiscy could still sneak in there. The good news is that all we need is one more W and we've got 4 chances to get it - I sure don't want to have to root for Sparty in order for us to get our crown! |

Like everyone's been saying, you just can't win them all, especially in a sport with a 60-70 game season. Never in UM history have we had a perfect conference record - we were very fortunate to get this far, with a few close calls in there. Just gotta get back out there and get the W on Saturday. Game will be on BTN, I can't wait to watch it! We get to watch so little softball throughout the season, it's a real treat when we do. |
| 4 weeks 1 day ago | Believe me, this problem |
Believe me, this problem absolutely predates the RR era. As a student for the last 4 years of Carr, the top part of the student section was *never* full by kickoff, unlike the rest of the stadium. It seems to have gotten worse since then, but it's been an issue for at least a decade now. Additionally, going GA will substantially improve the crowd's intensity level. One of the major issues we've always had is that juniors & seniors who don't really care about the team buy tickets just because they can get good ones, then some of them no-show, some sell their tickets (including to opposing fans), and when they do come, they don't get crazy. I'd love to hear an explanation of why someone like that should get to sit up close while a kid who has been dreaming of coming to Michigan his whole life and loves UM football has to sit up in row 90 just because he's a freshman. As a student, I longed for GA, and if I were a student now, I'd be celebrating. Imagine, a system that rewards fans based on their intensity level! This is really good news. |

Looks like the first game was a bit of a wild one - too bad only the second one was on BTN. At least we were able to see that one, and it certainly was a treat! The team was really clicking on all cylinders, and that 3rd inning was a thing of beauty, getting production from every part of the line-up. It's just amazing to watch Sierra Romero continue to produce at such a high level, especially now that everyone knows what she can do and so they're all doing their best to pitch around her. It's so great to know that we've got 3 more full seasons of her (and the other freshmen, who are looking pretty good too), along with two more full seasons of Driesenga & Wagner anchoring the rotation. The future is as bright as those maize basketball uniforms. |

Such bullcrap. We were up 4-0 in the third, and have to leave with nothing to show for it. There's plenty of time between now & the end of the regular season to finish the game, no reason not to. I hate it when stupid rules get in the way of things. |

Seriously! The thought of 3 more years of her play, two of which will be alongside the dynamic duo of Driesenga/Wagner in the circle, is incredibly exciting. I really feel like we've got a chance in these coming years to make some serious tournament runs if everyone stays healthy & sharp. |

| 5 weeks 6 days ago | Seems like we've been doing a |
Seems like we've been doing a great job lately of jumping out to big leads and then cycling in some bench players to get them game experience. It's great to do this, and also drives home how annoying the mercy-rule is (Hutch has expressed her opposition to it on a number of occassions as well). A) Michigan at least is clearly not running up the score on anyone, we're playing through the bench, and those lost innings are coming out of playing time for players who don't see a ton of action, and B) if Michigan can score 8 runs in an inning, so can another team. No lead is safe in modern softball, this isn't 1990 anymore, and softball no longer has soccer scores all the time. |

Romero was a highly-touted recruit, and is more than living up to the hype. She is already within striking-distance of the single-season home-run record (record is 21 and she's at 15, IIRC). The fact that softball players don't go pro early makes me very happy, because there's no fear of a one-and-done here. Sierra has moved into Ann Arbor and will be terrorizing pitchers throughout the Big Ten and the entire country for years to come! |

Good couple of wins today to keep things rolling. Holy cow, did the bats ever come out for us in these ones! | 7 weeks 3 days ago | Something tells me this news |
Something tells me this news is about to get overwhelmed on the board, but it's worth noting nonetheless. Hutch remains arguably the greatest softball coach in history, and certainly one of the top three or so. What she has accomplished, in the face of staggering odds, and with such rock-solid consistency, is nothing short of amazing, and we can be proud as Wolverines to support her & the team. |
| 7 weeks 5 days ago | One more game, one more win. |
One more game, one more win. Obviously we expect to roll a team like BGSU, but it's good to see us cruise this easily. I was especially glad to see Wagner get some good innings in since she got a late start on the season. |
| 7 weeks 6 days ago | I'd say we have a solid |
I'd say we have a solid chance, although we won't necessarily be on many people's lists of favorites to be in the final 8. We've taken a couple of questionable losses, which is what's holding us back in the polls, but we also have some really impressive wins, most significantly over #2 Arizona State. Our shot rests primarily on the arms of our two sophomore pitchers, Haylie Wagner & Sara Driesenga. When they are playing their best, there isn't a better one-two punch in the nation, so if they both bring their A-game to the postseason, there's no limit to what we can do. That said, I am pinning my hopes on next season & the year after, when we'll have an upperclass pitching staff & some of our young guns (Sierra Romero most notably) will have a little more experience. This team is going to be fun, though, and can go far! |
| 8 weeks 2 days ago | Gotta give a huge shout-out |
Gotta give a huge shout-out to Sierra Romero. In her 12 plate appearances in this series, she went 7-7 with 5 walks (two intentional). To reiterate: she reached base safely every single time she came to the plate in this 3-game series, batted 1.000, went yard 3 times, scored 6 runs, and had 7 RBIs. That is as good of a series as a player can deliver, and we got it out of a freshman! |

My one beef here is that I never like having the schedule printed on the back of the shirt. Sure, it's great when you win most of the games, but sometimes it is just plain painful. I might wear a shirt that reminded me in a general sense of the 2007 football season - we did have some cool moments that year. That year's shirt lists the date of the App State game, though, and renders it unwearable. I prefer the ones that have historical facts & figures about our program. |

I look forward to reading it! I was looking at the rankings, and while we're still the only B10 team ranked, a couple are right on the edge. I definitely don't expect to cruise through, although at the same time if we play at the level we're capable of, we can take care of business. |

Best day of the season so far for the team. Two wins over quality opposition, including a decisive one over a ranked team! This moves us to 5-3 against ranked opposition. Today I was really hoping for a split, hopefully with the win coming against ASU, since that would be such a high quality win. To get both is awesome. Have to be especially encouraged about the offense - dropping 14 runs over the course of 13 innings is fantastic. Can't wait for the B10 season to start, we have a title to defend! |

That's a huge win for the team. Looking at ASU's schedule, they haven't played the toughest teams (they'll get plenty in the Pac 12 schedule, so unlike us they don't have to work as hard to prove themselves in the non-conf portion). However, they only have two losses, one of which was to us, and 12 mercy-rule wins. Hopefully we can complete the Arizona sweep! Down 1-0 early, but lots of time to come back. |

Easy: intent to blow in hockey is the worst rule in all of sports and should be dropped immediately in favor of the objective "when the whistle actually went" rule. Second worst rule in sports is the puck-out-of-play rule in hockey, where it is a 2-minute minor. The rule should be the same as icing - face-off in your own zone & you can't make any changes. Since I'm on hockey, for good measure get rid of the stupid trapezoid in the NHL & let goalies handle the puck wherever they like. |

Big tests next weekend, I really hope we can seize the opportunity. We've struggled against ranked teams, but we have also shown that we are in fact capable of bringing them down. Great to see Haylie back in the circle, and I'm glad it's before the Big Ten season. "Her stats this year are better than Wagner's last year in every dimension." Considering what a dominant campaign Wagner put together last year, that is truly, truly impressive. Now I really can't wait to see what improvement Wagner has made in the offseason. Once she's back from injury, our pitching will be downright horrifying. |
| 11 weeks 3 days ago | Yeah, I'm definitely not |
Yeah, I'm definitely not surprised that Driesenga is making strides. She was a very highly touted recruit coming out of HS, so when you combine that with the excellent coaching that she is getting under Hutch's staff, it was just a matter of time before she started living up to her potential. The amazing thing to contemplate is that she & Haylie are both just sophomores - we still have two & a half years of this dynamic duo! Opposing batters had best settle in for a long, hard slog for the forseeable future. |
| 11 weeks 3 days ago | MGoSoftball is definitely the |
MGoSoftball is definitely the leading light of the softball fan faction here on MGoBlog, but I always make sure to stick my head in when I can. I checked & re-checked the boards a few times to make sure I hadn't missed the post, since I wouldn't want to double. :) Driesenga's progress this season has been just plain outstanding - almost at the level of freshman Denard to sophomore Denard or Darius Morris to Darius "Stop calling me the butterfly" Morris. Last year she was a decent pitcher, but very much took the back seat to Wagner, who had arguably the best freshman campaign in UM history in the circle. Now Sara is mowing them down on one side, and lighting up the scoreboard offensively as well (which is where she made most of her contributions last season). These two games were a great showcase of the progress she's made. To get 25 Ks over the course of the 42 total outs available on the day is ridiculous. Hopefully she can keep it rolling on Saturday! |
| 12 weeks 2 days ago | Driesenga just continues to |
Driesenga just continues to impress in the early going. Once Haylie is back, we are going to have an absolutely dynamite duo in the circle. It is so great to think about the fact that both of these highly-talented young ladies are just sophomores. We still have 2+ more seasons to enjoy watching them mow down opposing batters! |

Michigan wins! ISU plates one in the 10th, but Driesenga gets the big K to end things there. That was a lot closer than you want to cut it, but a win is a win, and I'm sure Hutch will find a lot of points to coach the team up on after that one! |

Gotcha, thanks for the explanation. I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of this rule. Basically every inning starts w/ a sac bunt & then you try to drive in the run, it seems. Also, it doesn't really seem to be speeding this particular game up much at all! :) |

That's exactly the kind of quality win it's great to see the team picking up in the non-conf schedule. People just expect us to win a lot in the Big Ten, since we're usually the only (or one of two or three at most) ranked team, so getting these wins early is the best way to prove ourselves. It's especially great to see Sara doing so well, although I certainly hope that Haylie gets back in the circle before too much longer. It looks like, once that happens, we'll be back to having a truly great one-two punch at the pitcher position. |

Frustrating in many ways, but I'm actually not worried at all. We played the team that will take over the #1 ranking in a tight game despite terrible 3-point shooting and being on the road. There's no doubt in my mind that we're capabled of cracking the top ten in due course, we've just got to grow into it. I also think the schedule sets up very nicely for us. We've got a few easier tournaments (although there is #12 USF right there off the bat) & whatnots where the team should be able to find its legs before going to the Judi Garman Classic to take on the perennial powers. Come through the non-conf in good shape & we'll be set up well for another strong run through the B10 & into the NCAAs. |

Can't wait for another year of UM softball. Haylie Wagner really impressed in her freshman campaign, so it will be tremendously exciting to see where she can go as she continues to develop. The fall season exhibition win over the professional all-star team certainly sets the table for us to make some noise this year. #15 seems about right based on last year's results & who's returning. We're getting some respect, but with plenty of room to rise! |

Not disagreeing with your analysis necessarily, but I love that we can not play our best game, be sloppy in a number of aspects, have our best player come up a bit short of his own high, high standards, and still win by 14 on the road in the B10 with the refs and a raucous crowd against us. Just one year ago, a 14 point win like this would've been among our better Ws of the year. Now it's just how we roll, meh. |

A few comments on the game: - Stauskas with one of his best games, esp in the first half. -We're capable of winning even when Burke doesn't get his shooting going right away. -Seeing Horford, McGary, and Bielfeldt step up in the absence of Morgan is tremendously encouraging. Bielfeldt = Albrecht of the big men - not competing for the starting job, but capable of plugging gaps in the rotation off the bench. - Also, a point from the Purdue game on the "Why we love McGary" front. After one of his dunks, the announcer accurately pointed out that he was the first one back on D. No preening, no patting himself on the back, nothing but effort. Also, I noticed that on the final possession, while we were just dribbling it out & the rest of the team was casually walking up the court, McGary was still sprinting the length of the floor at top speed. Again, nothing but effort out of the big man. |

Can't feel too bad about Kentucky. Championships are forever (unless they get vacated :p), so I doubt there's too much worry about a slight down year. I do worry a bit about sustaining a high level of success without 4 year players, but maybe that's just because in my bones I still don't believe we'll continue to pull down elite recruiting classes year in and year out. It seems, though, that 1 and 2 year players are the way to go for teams challenging at the highest levels these days, like it or not. |

Arguably not only the best coach at Michigan but also one of, if not the, greatest softball coaches of all time. I never tire of citing the Ann Arbor News' comment on the 2005 National Title: "What happened during the past five months might be the most unlikely accomplishment in the history of a storied athletics program, analogous to setting out to win an NCAA hockey title at the University of New Mexico. Then doing it." Doing what she's done at Michigan in the face of the massive structural disadvantages a Northern/Midwestern team faces is nothing short of incredible. Great to see another solid class of recruits coming together for the team! |

The badminton decision was a horrible one, though. I believe the players were absolutely right to tank the games, and I would've done the same thing - if the IOC didn't like it, they should have structured the competition differently. The goal of an athlete or team is to win the championship in their sport. Other wins are subordinate ends. If sacrificing one win will help you to achieve more wins in the long run, that is what should be done. |

The Kenpom factor is really what's helping me wrap my mind around the idea that we might actually be good here. Last season's over-achievement is by far the best UM b-ball I have any real memory of, so it's tough to believe. However, if the tempo-free stats are showing it, it becomes tough to deny, esp when you consider that we've beaten Kenpom #12 (Pitt) and #21 (KSU) teams. |

Doubtful that we see much of the 1-3-1. As much of a Beilein staple as that defense was, we have really gone away from it in recent years, using it only as a change of pace D in specific situations. That said, the long arms & athleticism to run the baseline on this team would be interesting to see in that formation. |

Crabtree was a great coach in his day, and did a lot for Saline. There is no question that the team declined in his later years, as happens with many coaches as the game starts to pass them by. Coach Glennie definitely moved us forward as a program, including getting us back into the state playoffs for the first time in 13 years during my senior season (class of '04). I'll never forget our last home game that year - we beat South Lyon on a 50 yard hail mary to a wide open receiver and we all got to rush the field. For all those coaches did over the years, though, you've gotta love where coach Palko has the team going. The defense I saw last Friday was dominant, and the offense looked as sophisticated as many D-I college offenses that I've seen. |

Amen! Already this is arguably the greatest season in school history. First 10 win season ever, 2nd district title ever, SEC Red title. I got to see us pound Pioneer's face in last Friday (first game I've made it to in years), and I was really impressed. Coach Palka absolutely has us headed in the right direction. The defense was dominant until we put in the scrubs late, and the offense was a very sophisticated spread-running attack. Hope we can keep it going against the Cass Tech machine. |
| 27 weeks 6 days ago | Great news indeed. It puts |
Great news indeed. It puts me in mind of what Hutch said to the team after winning the NCAA regional this year: "The only thing I've ever wanted - another chance to get better!" Her persistent drive for true excellence has made her program one of the crown jewels of the AD. Related to this, I think you can make a compelling case that she belongs in the conversation among the greatest coaches in NCAA softball history. She probably can't take the top spot, because some of those Southwestern coaches have huge piles of National Championships. As the Ann Arbor News put it after we won the 2005 title, the accomplishment is " analogous to setting out to win an NCAA hockey title at the University of New Mexico. Then doing it." The systemic disadvantages that Michigan faces due to the nature of the sport are gigantic, and the fact that Hutch turns out a nationally elite team, year in and year out, is nothing short of remarkable. The Southern teams may have bigger trophy cases, but Michigan has worked much, much harder for what we have. |

I'll agree that it's a little silly when we do it right before an obvious go-for-it 4th down or after a long drive ending in a FG, but that's on the band for playing it at the wrong time, not the students. It's always bothered me that seating priority goes by credit hours (!), and not by any measure that has to do with passion or love of the team. The kids in the first row should be the most hardcore fans, not random seniors who bought tickets for the first time ever just because they know they'll get good seats. The most frustrating thing is how badly the coverage this year compares to the excellent coverage of the Winter Games just 2 years ago. Theey commandeered a whole host of stations (4 or 5 in total, as I recall) and had tons of stuff available to watch. As for the tape delays, I don't mind that at all - I get that things are happening in England and that creates issues. What pisses me off is the salami slicing of events. I don't want to watch part of a beach volleyball match, an overproduced recap of two British medals, the end of the same volleyball match, and then alternate between swimming and gymnastics for several hours and skipping the rings (one of the most incredibly impressive events) entirely. Show me the whole volleyball match, THEN the whole British-winning events, THEN all the swimming, THEN all the gymnastics. Guh. I miss watching this stuff on the CBC as a kid so much, they knew what to do. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EC_Red_Bull_Salzburg Looks like they're a pretty good team, too - they've won their league a number of times in recent years. Edit: Austrian Hockey has the most facinating season/playoff structure. The twelve teams play every other team, once at home and once on the road. At the end of this, they have the Placement Round for the top six teams, where they do the same thing (the Qualifying Round), in order to determine playoff seeding. Meanwhile, the bottom six teams also do this, and the top two get to go on to the playoffs, the rest drop out. Here's where it gets really interesting - the #1 team from the Placement Round gets to *take their choice* of which of the bottom four teams (bottom two from the Placement Round and the two from the Qualifying Round) they wish to face. The #2 team then gets to pick from the remaining three teams, and so on. After that, they proceed to a best-of-seven format. (For the information, check out "Infos zur Season" at the bottom of this page: http://www.redbull.com/cs/Satellite/de_AT/EC-Red-Bull-Salzburg---Season-... ) Edit edit: Marty Turco played for this team briefly as well. | 45 weeks 3 days ago | Feedback |
In re: feedback, steviebrownforheisman makes a good point, and it can be expanded on a bit. There is a bit of a tendency in this video to show the last two or three plays before a scoring play, regardless of what they were, as opposed to giving a sense of the overall plot of a drive. We often skip straight to Michigan having the ball around the 20 yard line, doubtless leaving behind some cool first downs, big gains, etc. On one occasion, we even watch a false start, which should pretty much never happen in a highlight video. Overall, this is a pretty good effort, and it's great re-living this game. I was a senior in HS at the time (Saline Hornets!) and went with a good friend who had never been in the Big House before, so a lot of cool memories. Thanks for putting this together - I think you're well on your way, but could use a little polish. |

What really stood out to me was the fact that she attacked every single batter, went up 0-1 or 0-2 in almost every pitch count, and kept the pressue on the hitters. When I saw that the school involved was named "Our Lady of Sorrows, I immediately wondered if the Society of St. Pius the Tenth (SSPX) was in charge, and that turned out to be the case. The SSPX is a group that is in schism from the Catholic Church over a number of issues. I just thought it was important to put this out there before people start going "Ahh, stupid Catholics," etc., as this group is not representative of the Catholic Church in any way. |

That's a good point, although with one major caveat. "Chelsea Dagger" is an awful, awful, incredibly annoying song. When we choose our own stuff to become unique, we should definitely not take repetitive and annoying as a template. |

Hope you're right! Still a close race, but we're in the driver's seat. Not too bad for a re-building year. :) |

Can't wait for next Saturday. I'll be back at Alumni Field for the first time in a year, hopefully to watch the ladies wrap up a B10 title! Should be great! |
| 1 year 2 weeks ago | Please tell me that, in all |
Please tell me that, in all that "Toast to Yost from Coast to Coast" audio, we're going to get to hear the old man's famous line about the spirit of Michigan at some point. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | Getting all 3 against |
Getting all 3 against Illinois would be huge. After that all we have left is Wiscy & Purdue, and neither of those will be easy. I'm really looking forward to that Purdue series - I'll be back in Ann Arbor for it, so hopefully we'll be able to clinch a B10 title while I'm there! |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | Disappointing weekend, but we |
Disappointing weekend, but we knew going in that this would be at least somewhat of a rebuilding season. Fortunately, for us "rebuilding" still involves contending for the B10 title, and we've got some freshmen showing great potential. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | I know this is the rule, but |
I know this is the rule, but doesn't it seem like something that should obviously be changed? I mean, Verlander goes 8 scoreless innings and gets nothing (stats-wise), Valverde gives up a pair in one inning of work, and for some reason he gets the W. In what world does that make sense? In games that end up w/ 3 or more pitchers, I could see giving the W to the 3rd (or 4th, etc.) pitcher. In games with only two pitchers, though, there really should at least be some discretion re: who gets the win. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | We should be celebrating a |
We should be celebrating a 4-game sweep based on level of play to this point. Absolutely ridiculous that we're going to be out of the playoffs any day now. |

Idiot play by Z there. You absolutely have to be responsible for your stick, esp in a critical situation like this. Game over. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | Bone-headed errors killed the |
Bone-headed errors killed the last 40 seconds there. A mishandle right on the blue line, and then Hudler somehow skating straight into 3 defenders. Yikes. |

GOTTA make something out of this PP chance. |

Not to mention the fact that three defenders followed the initial shooter and no one even attempted to pick up the trailing man. Just plain awful play all around. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | What the hell were we doing |
What the hell were we doing there? Our defense was unbelievably out of position there! |

GOAL! If that doesn't stand up, then the world makes no sense. Which is why I'm nervous. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | No kidding. We dominated |
No kidding. We dominated Game One, too, and lost because of two ridiculously fluky goals. Oh, and stupid Rinne. |
| 1 year 5 weeks ago | I'm really looking forward to |
I'm really looking forward to that series against Purdue. I'll be back in town then and plan on attending the double-header we have against them. If the standings continue looking like this, it might be a really big series! |
| 1 year 5 weeks ago | Great work from the ladies |
Great work from the ladies this weekend. Every win matters in the conference, and of course any time you can sweet Sparty away, it's an extra bonus. |
| 1 year 5 weeks ago | Weber should not play again |
Weber should not play again this season. Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable behavior. |

I love these Southerners booing that call. Someone needs to buy them some rulebooks to read. |
| 1 year 5 weeks ago | NBC announcers are idiots. |
NBC announcers are idiots. If you have a chance to end the game w/ the open goal, you have to take it. Brady Hoke would've shot that puck. |

Homer with the PPG. Gotta keep pressing! |

Come on, Z! I know you have our only goal, but you should have a hat trick! |

We're playing much better this period. Just an amazingly flukey goal keep the Preds out front. |
