the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

This site faces is the democratic and entitled mass-ownership ideals that come hand in hand with user-generated content. The blog is, by Brian's at least partial design (more or less), for Michigan Men by Michigan Men, and as the readership continues to grow and grow, so too does the belief that 'hey, we're all a part of it' and deserve to get what we want from it. It's becoming increasingly hard to satisfy the diversity of such a huge following without moving away from the niche content source that made MGoBlog emerge in the first place. So what's a shaggy blog dude to do? |

Sorry... Last year I read a great article about how some of the industry pro's of the past write the script to fill the balloon-- meaning, they put the balloon into the artwork and then tried to choose just the right words to get their point across AND fill up the balloon in a visually pleasing manner at the same time. It's harder than it sounds... and I was also multi-tasking at the same time. Sorry, and thanks for the catch. |

Somebody's gonna go after those phone records at some point-- if I were a betting man I'd put good money on one of the reporters that did a sit-down and feels humiliated by the whole thing. If there in fact was some girl that he sat on the phone with all night discussing his hopes and dreams, certainly she's gonna come out at some point, probably in some exclusive paid interview, book deal, or otherwise a cash grab. Unless, that is, she's already been given a sizeable sum to vanish, as it were. Lies produce more lies, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the 'truths' of the case revealed this week may very well be retracted as the story continues to unfold. Perhaps Swarbrick himself may end up selling the kid up the river and discussing how the ND athletic community was lied to by Te'o in a final effort to distance the Golden Dome from this whole thing. But yeah, the OP is right-- if he is the victim he claims to be, it's time to pony up some proof. |

The Heisman voting has become a joke. Apart from RGIII last year, the Heisman Trophy has become a gift given to the most popular 'story' on the number one/hottest team of any given year. It's what makes this site so tremendous when it's at it's best. And it's also what makes it so messy and divisive when it's at it's worst. Whether or not this is a good era for the blog or a bad one largely depends on your own personal opinions of those who are making the most noise, and their own attitudes, for better or worse. The blog is evolving again... |

Watch football the minute you wake up until you either a.) leave to go out fashionably late for the evening or b.) pass out in the wee hours of the morning with some Pac12 postgame show droning on in the darkness. Shower if you want. Or don't. If you live alone, feel free to turn up the TV volume to ungodly levels when you leave the room to go to the bathroom. When people say freedom is a privilege, this is what they're talking about. And leave remnants of all food consumed throughout the day on the coffee table. Chicken wings? Empty chip bags? Those six pack rings that kill dolphins? Leave it all there as a tribute to the day's conquests. Ants shmants. Is all of this disgusting and maybe juvenile? Sure. But once that page is turned, you can never go back. So I say revel in your glorious and excusable bachelorhood. Good stuff, 707. Happy Wife Day, my friends. |

Today's storyline actually broke off into three separate ones as I thought about how the mental health community would view our fanatici-- err, I mean devotion to UM Football. The finished product was what I originally set out to create, but you may see some of the others soon enough. Go Blue! |
| 40 weeks 3 days ago | Me too |

I started out as that defenseman who was afraid of the puck and cleared it first chance he could get; graduated to the one-dimensional cannon-from-the-point blue liner; then became a power forward and forechecking freak a la Neely with increasing confidence; became the full-blown center and playmaker but was eventually moved because I was always out of position in my own zone; and finally settled back on the wing as something of a finesse player with good touch. |

You can say you love Spielman after his embarrassing display during The Game last year. Dude was literally fuming-- on the air mind you-- because Ohio couldn't pull it off... At one point he almost seemed to be making excuses for their mistakes and couldn't hold back the "wait til next year w/ Urbz" meme. |

I'm suddenly worried about Denard's Twin City mojo when he'll be forced to wear those new ADIZERO socks at the Cowboy Classic.
|
| 42 weeks 16 hours ago | Well let's just say |
That it was no accident that I added a blog label titled 'Michigan Football Gods' this week. |
| 42 weeks 17 hours ago | Yeah, that's great stuff |
When I originally started planning out the storyline, I really got carried away with all these cameos of UM greats and others in the afterlife... and, in the end, it all comes down to story length. And they're already getting longer than I want them to be, which makes for SO much more work. Although I only published 2 strips this week, I essentially did enough artwork for 4.5 of my typical story length... So in the end I chose to streamline and not include anyone but Bo. Perhaps one day I'll kill Glenn again and he can catch up with some of the other greats, haha |
| 42 weeks 1 day ago | Very Telling |

It's not bad... we knew the NW stripe was going to be prominent, but I didn't anticipate this. Actually there was all kind of talk that it was going to be arched, like the architecture in Evanston or something to that effect. Looks better on the home and the away, obviously, because there's less contrast between the purple & black than purple & white. Purple is a high value color, which means it's closer to black than white, which allows it to blend in better and therefore helps those white numbers pop. The purple on the white distances itself more from its white ground, tricking your eye into conceiving that the stripes are part of the numbers rather than the background. The result may very well tamper with the viewer's ability to recognize the numeric shapes. In other words, the white's won't look as good on TV. I also think the whole thing will take another hit if and when the players aren't wearing the base layer. Thoese sleeves certainly help sell the stripe motif, and I'm curious to see how it will look without them. Still, not bad. UnderArmour's hell bent on innovation... but at least they've learned a bit of restraint since last year.
|
| 42 weeks 2 days ago | Not bad |
Not lovin' the socks. Still LOVIN' the one-color numbers more than anything else. One thing is certain-- Adidas will be rooting for M perhaps more than us. Look what's happened with Denard's UTL jersey. Had we not come back those things would've been on the street for $9.97 during Art Fair... now they've sold like hotcakes all summer. On a side note, I took my boy to McDonald's for breakfast this summer, and guess what I didn't see a single person buy, even though they were right there on the menu....? |
| 42 weeks 2 days ago | ENOUGH! |

| 43 weeks 1 day ago | 2006 |
was awesome. And so were we. An honorable mention would have gone to the year (2008?) were they put the online Teambuilder into play... I used to create custom vector logos for my own teams and design uniforms and stadiums based on the artwork to create literally my own program... Too bad the online component was constantly malfunctioning and 'losing' my uploads. Grrrrrr, still sour about that. |

| 43 weeks 2 days ago | I hear you |
Not bad. I'll see where it goes. |
| 43 weeks 2 days ago | Pssst |
We're on this. Srsly. For those of you that asked-- shirts cannot feature any branded Michigan name, slogan, artwork, lyric, imagery, and most of all, player likenesses in any way. And by likeness I mean everything down to the haircut, uniform number, and/or nickname. If that makes it hard, trust me... I am well aware of this handicap. |

I proposed a similar concept... http://mgoblog.com/diaries/six-zero-um-mascot-proposal And no, Dave Brandon has yet to call on this one. |

Oriental Andrew is right-- today's strip sees Desmond continue his courtship of the impossibly hot redhead from his summer work. Raise your hand if you saw this coming, naturally... http://www.theblockhams.com/2012/07/truth-about-caitlin.html As for the late-in-the-day publish, it's essentially a double strip and took a whole lot longer than I anticipated. Plus there was some considerable detail necessary for today's strip. Curly hair, the starry firmament, etc. |

But I feel like I was well represented-- I counted at least 4 of my shirts just in a brief scan of the album. Who's that wearing my Chuck "Shadow Heisman" design? FWIW I'm wearing the same tee as I type this! |

The TP diagram makes some pretty broad generalizations. I'd like to think I"m pretty darn 'artistic,' but I'm definitely an OVER. |
| 46 weeks 2 days ago | You're kinda preaching |
To the guys who wore their full UM gear the Sunday after the Horror, Toledo, and other such nightmares. But you're not wrong-- those are the days when true fandom is exhibited. |

Yes, vaguely. And no. I admit I've never been but just googled to try to get a general feel for the skyline... |

Wish I could be there. Congrats and sell several million copies. Also wanted to note that the HTTV edition of The Blockhams will not appear online. It's an MGoExclusive!! |

The best selling shirt in East Lansing history. |
| 1 year 1 week ago | I wore a Half-Shield |
for years and years, and then one summer signed into a league that required full face shield. I had a full Itech cage lying around somewhere, but saw a good deal on a CCM/Leader retractable full visor and decided to try it out. For me, I'm not a big fan. The fog can be an issue no matter how well you supposedly treat it-- I even tried out the ol' toothpaste glaze method and it still got foggy when you got on the bench. That's what made the retractable interesting-- you could pop it 'up' like a riot gear helmet. As far as the 'playability' factor-- I thought it was a significant issue. Felt boxed in, and peripheral awareness was compromised quite a bit. It just kinda slowed me down, and I felt a step behind. With that being said, I still own that HT2 helmet with the full cage on it, and I've noticed myself grabbing it more and more for open hockey and stuff like that as I get older. I've already lost teeth and at this stage in my life it's just not worth it. But if I was 17 or 18-- or more importantly, if my career and future was on the line-- I'd go no visor at all, no question. |

to be nice to Bump, really I have. I just can't help myself. Actually I do like the phrase you suggested-- he is very much a "willing patsy." I can promise you some closure, and perhaps a little change, next week. After the heckles die down, of course. |

I know nothing of Magic: The Gathering, but I knew I wanted cards up on the desk with her number. So I left 'em blank and figured I'd just drop 'em into the comic, all raster style. When I googled the Magic cards, I found all these awesome Photoshopped fake cards of Mr. T. and stuff like that. When I saw the Chuck Norris, I just knew that Bump had to have it. As for good ol' Bump, he's evolved into his own self a bit. He's not just a simple stereotype anymore... |

Every time I go off the grid I miss something. Thanks Seth and all of the staff. And Brian, poor fellow. In case he or anyone else failed to see it, here is today's Blockhams "Friday Rough" in his honor:
Obviously I feel compelled to say that not all of the above t-shirt designs are mine. And out of all the ones I was not a part of, I sincerely wish I could say I came up with "Worst State Ever." That's gold, Jerry. As for ProfitGoBlue... actually a great question. I've actually taught a lecture/discussion on that very topic, whether creativity is learned or innate. When I have more time I'll give you my thoughts. |

Tom and Pam lives just a few doors down from his mom and dad. So he has a tendency to drop in his parent's house for breakfast, mostly as an excuse to talk shop with his Dad. I have a theory that every good comic has some sort of watering hole, or water cooler or whatever, where the characters check in to talk about what's going on in the world. So I guess mine is Donna Blockham's breakfast nook. |
