| 4 weeks 2 days ago | So Burke, GR3, and Hardaway all played 33+ |
minutes last year and Stauskas played 30.5 but you are projecting the minutes leader will only play 30 minutes a game? At least you are the first to point out the we will probably have a two point guard lineup for 5-10 minutes a game assuming Walton establishes himself. |

No school has ever gotten in trouble for fans acting stupid and recruiting on their own and no school ever will. This is completely out of the hands of the university so let's please stop acting like a Michigan fan is ever really going to get us in trouble in any way. |

Slow to run it effectively in the NFL.It's already questionable how effectively the spread and shread can be run in the NFL as a base offense. But if it can be run you'd need more of a burner than Tebow back there. |

Under the new system it's going to be very rare that a Big Ten team plays in the Fiesta bowl so would love to see them do a Pac12-Big Ten Holiday bowl tie in. San Fran or Vegas wouldn't be bad locations for a 3rd tier Big Ten bowl game either. |

Tebow is too slow to run the spread n shred as a base offense in the NFL. I'm not sure why anyone thinks that's a realistic option. |
| 22 weeks 1 day ago | Hmm |
Sounds like our long snapper might not have a scholarship after all. |
| 22 weeks 3 days ago | Tom certainly did last year |
On Garnett, Kozan, and Diamond. He has done the same this year on LT. Look, as an "insider" it's better for business to keep hope alive unless you are absolutely sure that it isn't going to happen. What I've noticed the last several years is usually when Michgan goes from being in the top of someone's group to no longer being an option the recruit usually stops talking to Tom. Then Tom says something about how he doesn't have any new info but he still feels pretty good about it. Maybe he is just letitng the fans down easy but most likely it's just better for business to have Michigan in it for more players. |
| 22 weeks 4 days ago | Agree |
This is what I was thinking when I read the Grantland post yesterday. I always thought Iverson was underrated by the stats nerds because they didn't account for his drives to the hoop that would draw two or three defenders. Great post by the way Ace. I love this kind of analysis! |
| 24 weeks 4 days ago | And don't forget Mouton |
He will be active for the first time every this weekend for the Chargers and he might even start. The Chargers got a lot of heat for taking him in the second round so here's hoping he proves the doubters wrong. |
| 25 weeks 4 days ago | Knocking on our door? |

| 26 weeks 5 days ago | Also don't forget Vegas |
That is a reasonable drive for most Californians. I guess we forgot to mention the Insight/BW3 bowl in Tempe which has a B1G tie in. |
| 26 weeks 5 days ago | I have to agree with the OP |
Would it hurt to have a B1G bowl besides the Rose Bowl in San Diego or the Bay Area? Both cities are a great place to spend New Years and usually have good weather that time of year. Also the Rose Bowl could host a second bowl like the Fiesta does. I'm still blown away by the number of Big Ten alumni that live out here. |
| 26 weeks 5 days ago | Regarding Treadwell |
This isn't the first time he has said that Michigan wasn't the team recruiting him the hardest. About a month ago he mentioned the Oklahoma and OK State were the schools recruiting him the hardest. Nothing that has happened in the last 4-5 months has indicated the Michigan is the leader. It's extremely rare that a recuit uses all five of his officials and then commits to a team he didn't take an official to. We might be better off lowering our expectations for a Treadwell commitment because at this point it seems more like a long shot. I would say in general when a recruit goes through a 2 year recruiting process and norrows his schools from 10 to 5. to 3 etcetera... and then starts opening up his recruitment again that doesn't bode well for his original finalists. It probably means he is looking for something or a feeling he hasn't found yet in his final schools and therefore opening up his recruitment again. That's why I don't feel great about Green either, although the fact that he came in for an official makes me a bit more optimistic. |
| 28 weeks 6 days ago | This thing is a category 1 hurricane |
and will be a tropical storm by the time it lands. I don't see the big deal. |
| 29 weeks 5 hours ago | You do realize |
that it's very possible that the coaches had no idea that he was throwing up until after the drive, right? |
| 29 weeks 2 days ago | I really don't like when analysts use logic to predict |
where a recruit is going to go. These decisions are often more emotional than logical. If Green for example decides he doesn't want to got to Tenn of Auburn because they lose their coaches it doesn't mean Michigan rises to the top. If Green doesn't feel 100% comfortable with Michigan he will add new schools to his list or he could always fall back on Virginia Tech. And if we start hearing in the next month or two that Green is adding new schools to his list that would be a strong indication that Michigan isn't a real player. We'll see. |

| 30 weeks 2 days ago | I don't think you guys get it |
The OP is being very generous and I'm sure there's thousands of kids, underpriveledged, disabled, veterans, etc that would love to go but wouldn't have any opportunity to go otherwise. So the OP is being generous enough without also figuring out all the logistics on their own. So if you MGOPoster is a mentor to a Mott kid or anyone else that you think should go then write the OP and hope you get picked. |
| 30 weeks 2 days ago | Or instead of voting you could take a kid from Mott |

| 30 weeks 2 days ago | I'm surprised no one has mentioned this |
Dawson has the three best SEC schools (seems like he wants to go south) on his list and the best school in the Midwest that he has an offer for. Seems entirely reasonable to me. If he decides distance is a bigger deal than he thought it was then OSU is a nice safety school. |
| 30 weeks 2 days ago | Yeah, I'm sure that entered |
into his mind when he put Ohio up there as a finalist. Seriously? |
| 30 weeks 5 days ago | If Michigan truly is his dream school then |
spending two weekends getting to know the coaches, the players, and the school should be enough for him. Look, everyone is different. Some people make up their minds quickly and stick to that decision and some people need time. I think the situtation we had last spring was unique in that so many recruits were committing at the same time that it's possible a few of them committed before being 100% sure. |
| 31 weeks 1 day ago | I didn't neg it |
But I can see why someone would. There’s a couple assertions made in the first few paragraphs and the only evidence is height and weight for incoming recruits. Because the height and weight charts look pretty it does not mean any real research was done. I have no idea whether or not the OP’s assertions are correct but I can tell you that I gained no new insight from this post. Also, Desmond Morgan committed a month before Hoke was even hired. |

| 34 weeks 3 days ago | I don't think you know how sports books work |
And that goes for Blue-Chips and Oorbs too. Last year for the Western game Vegas 20 times the amount of money coming in on Michigan's side then on Western's side. Vegas thought they were going to make a killing on that game and got bailed out because of the thunderstorm prevented anyone from making money. On the Behind the Bets podcast every week on ESPN bookmakers constantly debunk the theory that they want even money on each side. If they can beat the public more consistenly then they make the house more money. Also, several bookmakers have brought up the fact that if they priced in which teams were "public teams" to the odds they would get absolutely destroyed by the sharps. The major expception is the Superbowl in which so many millions of dollars are at stake they try to get pretty close to a 50/50. So the fact that the line has come down means the sharps are betting heavily on Michigan or the bookmakers have taken another look at Michgan and think it will be a close game. |

Anyone any age can play in the NBADL. The NBA relegation thing is another matter separate from the normal rosters. Players make 20K-50K a year in the D-league so why not go to Ukraine and get (I'm guessing) 100K tax free plus a free car to drive and house to live in? His agent might have advised him to make some cash in Europe for a years and tear it up there and hope an NBA team picks him up. Seems reasonable. |

| 1 year 1 week ago | According to Three and Out |
Michigan would typically accept 3 or 4 accademic risks for recruitng class but RR had pushed that to about 6. So it seems like a few guys a year can slip in with minimum standards but it's not going to be a lot. That also means we don't have bare minimum standards like Duke or Standford that are higher than the minimum. Also FYI, also one of my good friend's dad coaches in the Big Ten and he has said numerous times that the Notre Dame higher standards thing is a joke and they can get anyone in they want. I'm guessing that means they have a policy similar to UM but who knows for sure. |

Usually when a recruit is going to commit he is texting and and yacking it out with the Michigan recruiting analysts in the days before the announcement. When's the last time a recruit commited here after having a date set up and Tom wasn't being coy about it? The only time I can remember is maybe Demar Dorsey. |

Came back for his sophomore year and magically got drafted fourth even though he didn't grow. Tj Ford and Felton came back and ended up lottery picks as well. No reason Burke can't improve in other areas besides his height. |
| 1 year 6 weeks ago | Top 100 |
He is not even in it. The top 100 is where you would be drafted if you declared now. Next years draft is assuming improvement. His ability has a part and feel for the game can improve for sure. If he is on a top ten team next year and averages close to seven assists he is a lottery pick. He may lose millions if he leaves now. |
| 1 year 6 weeks ago | Practice |
After training camp there's about ten practices during the year. That's it. You have to be very self motivated to learn during an NBA season and the kind of skills you need as a point guard can't really be learned without structured practice or playing time. Point guard is the one position that without a doubt it helps to develop more in college unless you are a super star. |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | No one will ever be uglier than Sheldon Williams |
His kids might be the best athletes on this planet but I feel sorry for them. |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | As a Duke fan growing up all I can say is |
thank God. He was very talented but he was just bad for chemistry, was a ball hog, and rarely got the ball to the bigs in good positions. He also has absolutely no idea how to run a pick-and-roll correctly. He'll probably go 15-25. I think it's a smart move on his part because I think if he had stayed another year scouts would start to pick him apart. He's being drafted more on potential than production. |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | Yes, but our coaching staff didn't retain him |
We encouraged him to look into declaring and once he did he liked what he saw. |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | If there is any chance you are going in the second round |
you should most likely stay. 2nd round is a non-guaranteed contract and you can be cut before you ever play a game. Also being picked by good teams late in the second round means you may not get the time to develop or you may be stuck behind a star. |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | Mat, he can dominate like CP3 did his sophomore year |
Burke has the talent and he will have the talent around him next year to put up 7-8 dimes and get close to 50-40-90 next year. That's a top 5 pick. Point guard is one position where you can dominate at the college level (and nba level) without overwhelming physical advantages. If you want to dominate at the next level then learn to dominate at the one you are at first. |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | This is all because of the new NCAA rule which |
requires you to declare by April 10th every year. Before you could work out with teams for a few months and see if you get a first round promise or what kind of feedback you get from coaches and GM's. You would be making a relatively informed decision as the consensus to who is in the top 20-25 picks are pretty settled about the last week before the draft. Now you have time for one workout at best and you are making an almost completely uninformed decision. Morris had a couple agents/scouts tell him before the workout in Jersey (he pulled out) that he was a first round lock and he declared. Who knows who is in Burke's ear. If he declares there is almost no way he goes in the first round this year. We will see. |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | How about Hansbrough? |
I know it's taboo to compare black to white or vice versa but both were wide bodies that physically dominated the competition in college but were limited athletically and a bit short for the PF position. I see them having similar careers. |
| 1 year 8 weeks ago | short term, yes |
but as prices go up and rabid fans are priced out and even students begin to get priced out you become more and more like a pro team. Fans can become less engaged, playing at home is less of an advantage, and recruits are less likely to want to play for a corporate dead stadium. Long term there can be so many drawbacks to the "if people keep buying tickets we'll keep raising prices" strategy. I hope DB realizes this. |

| 1 year 9 weeks ago | Yeah it really sucked in 2004 |
when a the 3rd seeded Detroit Pistons had two incredible series with the Nets the Pacers where they were down 2-1, pulled both of them out, and then faced the Lakers with 4:1 odds against them and completely annihilated them in the finals. But I guess since the Pistons didn't have one of the four best records that year or have a superstar on their team none of that really happened. |
| 1 year 9 weeks ago | Agree 100% |
What these teams don't get is that instead of spending money on overpaid players to make your franchise star happy just do like Miami did and have a massive amount of cap room the same year that your start is a free agent. If Orlando had a ton of cap space Deron Williams would be joining him in Orlando in the summer rather than likely vice versa. |

So on these boards it's okay to rip on anyone who does something stupid (unless they are a minor or current Wolverine) but if they ever ran for a political office or held an office or declared allegiance to a particular party now we can't chuckle at that person's expense? It just seems that things have gotten so PC around here and in the off season can't we cut loose a bit? |

It has that grating copper finish to that just seems cheap and leaves a bad after taste. I love the beers from SD and I would put Stone/Alesmith/Green Flash/Port up against about any microbreweries I've tried around the country. Fat Tire is available at just about every bar around here. Their other major beers they produce I would say are mediocre at best and I just don't get the popularity. I have to say, my neighbor out here is a part owner of Beer Baron in Livonia and he gets a lot Michigan beers and lets me try them. Some of the best stouts I've tried are from Michigan. |
| 1 year 9 weeks ago | It is possible we are a five or six seed |

| 1 year 10 weeks ago | This is a variation on the pin down screen |
I imagine earlier in the game or earlier in the season Smotrycz's pick would have allowed Novack to pop immediately out for a shot or Smotrycz on a smaller man on the post miss match. If that had been scouted out then Penn State wouldn't be expecting this variation. If this was football I'd call it an inverted pin down screen. Very cool. This isn't a pick and pop by the way gordie, that involves the pick man popping instead of rolling on a high or side screen.

Newsflash, this isn't breaking news. Not even for whomever 'broke' it. You're not breaking anything if you publish information that will become public knowledge within minutes or hours anyways. I wanted to point a few things out however. By your calculations a DT is over three times more likely to be drafted as a 5star than 4star yet you closed with saying that Rivals hasn't done a good of distinguishing between the two. Also, what are we getting at with the draft position chart? Is it an "even if they do get drafted they won't be drafted as high as 5 stars" kind of thing? You seemed to draw a different conclusion with the DT's. |
| 1 year 11 weeks ago | I can't watch this game but |
anyone think Leonard looks like a lottery pick? If he can't get 10 rebounds in this game how is he going to do in the NBA? |
| 1 year 11 weeks ago | I disagree |
Don't declare unless you have a first round gaurantee at the least. Plus, this year there are like three pg's worth taking in the first round. Had Darius come back and improved is floor game a bit and really shown he could shoot he would be looking at a likely lottery selection. |
| 1 year 11 weeks ago | Explain this to me again |
Our LB recruting has been a bit light the last 4-5 years and we'll only have 9 scholarship players (at best) and possibly less when the 2012 class arrives. Generally you want to be 4 deep or close to it at every position. If we can get 3 linebackers that are top notch I don't see why the coaches wouldn't take them. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | I nominate Larsonlo/SpaceCowboy |
although I think ZoneLeft would be a good one too. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | I think it's a matter of trust |
If we are winning big and everyone is happy it doesn't matter what the fans think of the AD. However, if things start to go south or Brandon goes over the top with comercialization our trust in his word and that he is doing the right thing means something. His lack of honesty about the coaching search (and feigning interest in Les Miles), not taking meetings or phone calls from players in RR's last month and saying his office was always open, and claiming that he never said he was considering moving The Game may lead some of us to question him personally. In the end he may end up being a great AD for Michigan but personally having a much lower approval rating from the fans. As I said, as long as we keep winning this won't matter. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | No you wouldn't have your answer |
The two things are related but not 100%. In fact he majority of fast break points yesterday came off of tournovers not defensive rebounds. I really wish we would push it more off of defensive rebounds to punish teams for sending so many guys to the glass. |
| 1 year 13 weeks ago | The player needs to set prior to the basketball move |
which is typically as the player starts to bring the ball up before he jumps. This is rarely called correctly and often the player arrives late and gets the charge anyways. |

| 1 year 14 weeks ago | I'm surprised the Lakers haven't sent Morris to the d-league |
for development. I would be interesting to see how he does with their affiliate. I really wish he was on a team like the Hornets where he would be a true play maker without a dominent wing scorer like Kobe. I think Morris just had bad luck with who selected him but hopefully he finds the right team at some point. |
| 1 year 14 weeks ago | I think d-league players get 20-40k a year and the minimum |
NBA contract is 450K (obviously prorated for call-ups). NBA players also get 200 a day per diem and a host of other benifits. |
| 1 year 14 weeks ago | Most players in the d-league do not have rights held by an NBA |

He started almost all of last year. It will also be interesting to see this year from the guys we lost who if anyone does well at the schools they transfered to. Also don't forget V Smith, BWC (hoping for a bigtime year from him this year), Cameron Gordon, and Washington. This class still has some upside and all of those guys i mentioned have a shot or starting or major contributions next year. |
| 1 year 15 weeks ago | I've felt the exact same way |
There was a time last summer where it seems like he was on the verge of commiting. Then something happened and made him start looking a lot more at other schools and there was at least one unofficial visit that was canceled. It also appeared the coaching staff backed off him for several months and really went after some West Coast linemen. Whatever seed of doubt he had last summer made me skeptical that he would ever commit to us. |

Magnus, always enjoyed your scouting reports. Since you are answering questions I got one for you. For 2011 class you had Frank Clark has one of your lowest rated guys. Have you seen anything from him this year that would make you change your scouting report on him? Personally he seems a bit more athletic than advertised. |
| 1 year 21 weeks ago | I love these Ace |
I can't wait for the next one and too see how they evolve. As far as the bigs getting too many pluses I think if you study pick-and-roll offense enough you can find place where the big screws up and sets a bad pick, or doesn't slip the pick when he should, or pops when he should roll, etc. . . I would also think that whether or not a big is fighting for position or settling on catching the ball too far from the basket could also play into things. |
| 1 year 22 weeks ago | That was a long rant |
I think Bacon was right, but for the wrong reasons. There was no reason for RR to adapt to a pro-style players because there was only one returning starter to adapt to. Unless you think he should have delayed implementing his sytem for the sake of Threet. The truth is that if Michigan had returned 4 or 5 O-lineman and a QB like Henne in 2008 we have no idea if he would have adapted his system or not, we also have no idea if RR would have been hired under that scenario or if Carr would have choosen to retire under that scenario. As Brian has said before the defense is a better example of RR being stubborn, not the offense. |
| 1 year 22 weeks ago | One question for Bacon |
He says in the book when talking about Carr that he could never quite square Carr making first contact with RR to Carr's lack of support and possible undermining of RR once RR got the job. But he also says Carr was upset that RR didn't hire more of his coaches. I would like to know why Bacon thinks Carr's lack of support was so misterious when it's very likely he was upset that he wasn't involved in in more of the decision making once RR got to town? Chitown already asked my other big question which was why wasn't Shafer's firing talked about more? That seems like a major decision and I would like to know if it was RR's alone or if the AD's office pressured him to have a fall guy. |
| 1 year 23 weeks ago | We will likely have 2-3 transfers in the next |
9 months so we'll have some open spots if we take 28 guys regardless. Also new coaches usually like to bring in as much of their guys as they possibly can right away. |
| 1 year 23 weeks ago | Trading the greatest PG since Magic |
and not receiving an all star or top 3 pick in return is in no way a great trade. They were going to get an above average PF, and above average SG who plays horrible defense, and a below average PG. Then a couple worthless late draft picks. Not a good trade for the Hornets. |

But call the casino before you go. Fox Sports is showing Iowa State - OK this weekend instead of the Michigan game so you might be stuck with a shaky internet feed.

| 1 year 26 weeks ago | UTI?-Under Tertiary Inspection? |
Kidding. . . but I'm a bit of a basketball nerd and first you'd have to think of all the thing you want to quantify. I'll just throw somethings out there on offense and defense. Offense: Shot making. Probably difficulty of shot and how appropriate the shot was. two different metrics. sometimes because of the shot clock or situaion a difficult shot is needed although usually it's not called for. Shot creation might also be a third metric here to see which players are able to iso their defender. Moving without the ball. Setting picks, and getting open (whether or not they get you the ball) would be easily quantifiable Creation. A great pass that leads to a bucket should count the same as one that leads to a missed bunny or a foul shots. A bad pass, or missed open player could potentially count against the passer. Hustle/Derp metric. Here we have level of offensive rebounding, saving or diving for a ball, and offensive fouls or turnovers. Turnovers could also go under Creation. Defense: Rebounding: Who contributed to the rebound whether it was boxing out or out jumping someone. Shot making of oppent: Who's responsible for high quality shots or someone breaking down the defense? Assist defense. Who's responsible for easy shots that were created by the other team or potential assits that were defended? Pick n Roll defense: The hardest play to defend so maybe it needs its own metric. Fouls: There are good fouls and bad fouls and bad calls either way. A metric can be created to quantify this. Overall an offensive rating and a defensive rating can be calculated for each player and if you want to parse out hustle/rebounding then you would have potentially a third rating.

| 1 year 27 weeks ago | Smith is an h-back and is 5'6". |
What the hell are you talking about? H-back either refers to the RB or the postion that's half-way back in the backfield. it doesn't refer to the fullback although sometimes the TE, FB, or HB can line up at similar depths depending upon the play and the offense. It's just odd to say tight end or H-Back when a TE is usually 6'2" - 6'6" and an H-Back can be anywhere from 5'6" to 6'3". |
| 1 year 27 weeks ago | Not an H-Back but maybe a RB? What?? |

| 1 year 27 weeks ago | The almost PI on the throw to Roundtree |
I haven't seen anyone mention that that throw seemed to be dead on, only that Roundtree slowed down to catch a second too early and thus ended up not being in position. I don't think the db bumps into him if he just keeps running and makes the catch attempt. Denard's long throws are far from good but when he does make a pass that is spot on it seems our receivers aren't in position or are step too slow to make a play on the ball. Our receivers seem to be better at catching long jump balls than catching the long ball in stride. I think this would be maddingly frustrating at times even if Andrew Luck was our QB. |

| 1 year 28 weeks ago | I was worried about with Carvin and Marvin |
at the beginning of the year. From far away place + lack of redshirt + coaching change + lack of playing time = high likelyhood of transfer. I really hope we hold onto Marvin as I think he will be a stud at Strong Safety his senior year and we'll need someone to step in for Kovacs. I still don't understand why an athlete would leave in the middle of the season though. You never know what will happen and at the end of the semester once you've passed your classes you can make an informed decision about whether or not to transfer. Bummer. |
| 1 year 28 weeks ago | Those number are good |
We were good during that time (8-9 wins) for the most part. I don't think we can be elite though with numbers like that unless we are passing a lot more, getting crazy ypc from our qb, or have a top 5 defense. |

Here's a link to the old (prior to 2004) admissions process with the points for each one. An outstanding essay was worth 1 out of a total of 150 points. 1 point! So that tells you how much they care about your essay. Getting straight A's was worth 80 points. And 100 points guaranteed you admission. So even if they don't use that system anymore that should still give you and idea of how much they value your achievements and other factors. so probably not worth worrying about the essay unless you think you are really borderline or have a small shot at getting in. |

| 1 year 29 weeks ago | After two years of JUCO you come into school |
as a sophomore at least. If you take spring and summer classes for two or three summer you can easily graduate in four years. Seeing as some football players graduate after FIVE years I don't see this as a problem. Also depending on the classes you took at JUCO and what your major is at Michigan you may be able to transfer the majority of your credits. Also, you can't just take anything you want and get in. Here's what UM says about tranferring. |
| 1 year 29 weeks ago | Let's clarify the JUCO thing a little bit here |
So a year ago I did some research about why we don't take many JUCO's. I have several friends that transfered to UM from community colleges so I was curious why everyone was saying it was so hard to be done. So between my friends and Michigan's website (which talks about how to transfer from a community college) I figured out that you have to specifically prep to get into Michigan as a JUCO. You can't just get a good GPA and take a Gen Ed track and think they will accept you. So if Dorsey is taking the coursework that would align with Michigan or that calibur of school he could get in here. Since a lot of JUCO kids went there for grades and are doing all they can to qualify for your average BCS school, they aren't real candidates to transfer to Michigan. So if say a lifelong UM fan was recruited but had a bad ACT they could go to JUCO and prep for 2 years to specifically attend Michigan. It's odd that we have the same admission standards for football out of high school that State has but not for JUCO's, but that's the way it is for some reason. |

| 1 year 29 weeks ago | Greg Brown was our first commit, right? |
Maybe it was the frustration of being the first commit, the only EE, and then getting passed on the depth chart by almost everyone on the depth chart. I still think that if you are going to transfer, the end of Winter term is probably the best. You probably have a pretty good idea of where you stand on the team and you can leave in good academic standing. Also, you've got the whole summer with your new team before fall camp to get acclimated. The middle of the 2011 season doesn't make sense. He won't play until 2013 at the earliest. |
| 1 year 29 weeks ago | Standford at 2 makes no sense |

| 1 year 31 weeks ago | Good point |
but the whole idea of the DSR is to be a more accurate reflection of what kind of passing day the QB had. otherwise we would just use completion percentage. with the DSR the QB doesn't get credit for screens or bad throws that were bailed out by amazing catches or DB stupidity. It also doesn't penalize them for throwaways and throws while they are getting hit. If you don't agree with the DSR then just look at the completion percentage. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | In either case it is a bad throw so it shouldn't help out his |
DSR. But if you wanted to make the case that the throw should be marginal I can see your point. |
| 1 year 31 weeks ago | Would you consider adding short passes and screens? |
to the big chart where blocking and YAC can be very similar to that of the ground game? That if Gallon makes a catch that was 3 but sets up his blocks and later breaks through a tackle or two he would get credit for the YAC. |

Seems like the obvious fit. They just fired their coach a couple months will be looking for a new one at the end of the year. The ACC isn't that tough and North Carolina has shown over the last few years that you can pull in top 15 classes on a regular basis. Also, since NC doesn't have a lot of football history they might be willing to hire a riskier high upside guy who has recruited the area before. As mentioned above Georgia and South Carolina could be in play if their coaches decide to leave after this year as well. If I were Arizona I would throw a bunch of money at Malzahn and hope he bites, but UCLA might already be thinking the same thing. |

Mattison's zone blitzes he uses often require DT's to drop into coverage. We may be looking maining at DT's/NT's with that kind of athletic ability and therefore the coaches are looking at bulking up some 5-Techs and using them as DT's. It's possible they didn't see that kidn of versatility in O'Brien. |
| 1 year 32 weeks ago | This is one of the biggest myths of them all |
During the one week evaluation period where college players could go to NBA workouts many front offices types were saying that there would be no lookout and that it was a scare tactic by college coaches. At least 50% of agents were saying the same thing in attempt to sign clients. Darius likely got some bad advice along the way. Whether that influenced him I have no idea. I do know there are very few point guards projected to declare for the 2012 draft ihad Darius continued to improve he would have been well positioned for next year's draft. That being said I think he will be given plenty of opportunity (especially if he D's up) to be successful in LA. |
| 1 year 32 weeks ago | Please leave your uninformed opinions off this blog |
After Dallas and Portland, LA was probably the best place for Darius to land. He's on a winning team and the starting point guard probably has one year left in the league; backup point guard might not have many himself. LA WILL NOT be a player in free agency because they have the highest payrool in the league this year and have no cap room. They might sign a midlevel guy for a few years but if Darius continues to develop he is their future. Darius probably has a clearer path to the starting PG position than anyone next year that is a rookie besides Jimmer and Kyrie. Darius isn't going overseas because he needs to be ready the day training camp starts to 1) make the team (he is a second round pick) and 2)position himself to beat out Blake for the backup PG position. Players that are playing in China this year are stuck there for the year and can't get out of their contract, likewise for most contract-less NBA players that went to Europe. Only players currently under contract playing in Europe got out clauses for when the NBA season begins. Rookies don't have that kind of leverage so the safe bet is to train and be ready for training camp. I have no doubt Darius will be ready.

You guys keep hoping though. Also, for those who say it's illegal to delete some of these records don't forget that potentially millions of dollars are at stake here, no one circles the wagons like OSU, and people rarely get jail time (not sure that would even be on the table in this case) for white collar crimes.
