Let's give Cowherd the benefit of the doubt. To be perfectly fair, Jim probably couldn't recognize him with that rediculous new hair color.
|1 year 14 weeks ago||Why is it interesting that||
Why is it interesting that our QB throws 3 picks and the backup doesn't get a sniff of playing time? You pick your player, you go with that player. This was one game in a new offense, on a new team, against a tough defense, with some relatively inexperienced wide outs contributing, in an emotionally charged opening game, and a partridge in a pear tree. If his performance is the same against O State or UNLV, sure give Shane a go.
I think he was genuine with the OR statement. The starter could have been Jake OR Shane. He picked Jake.
Lets not forget that there were some flashes of solid play in there too. He found Jake Butt with regularity, Darboh looked good, Chesson stretched the field and looked like a vertical threat if we can just hit him on the numbers...
The sky isn't falling people. We lost to a pretty good team. Michigan will get better. Harbaugh. Etc.

He has good touch though, velocity is there, and he's athletic enough to get out and run. He's got all the tools.

|1 year 26 weeks ago||My 2 cents||
Though it be worth far less than that:
MJ is the best pure scorer the game has ever seen. You could argue Wilt there too, but there was no one to stand against Wilt in his prime w/ regard to scoring.
MJ could score at will, on whomever he wanted, and he was a true assassin when it came to the Finals.
Lebron is not the scorer or killer Jordan was. He doesn't have that same instinct. What he does have is the ability to make every player around him better. Delly, Thompson, Mozgov, Shumpert, all come alive when playing with Lebron. I'm not sure MJ gets out of them what Lebron gets out of them.
What Lebron also has over Jordan is pure athleticism (as many have already stated). He's just a bigger, faster, stronger dude. Jordan was a much better ball handler, I will say that for sure, but Lebron's vision, passing, defense are all top notch.
I think they have to be 1 and 1a and you could make an argument for either of them being in either position.
I'd still probably take Jordan but that's because I have this moment seered into my mind:
And that's not even his greatest moment ever. Just remember watching that game and being in awe of his command and confidence.
|1 year 28 weeks ago||Wiggins is a good player||
and he is going to get better still being so young, but I think that if you had to take a Irving, Love, LeBron team or an Irving, Wiggins team there is no question which direction you go. The complimentary pieces they have at Cleveland far outway keeping Wiggins as well. Shumpert, Smith, Thomas, Mozgov, Dellavedova (he's not as big a deal for this team, but his scrappy play is too Spike like for me not to like the guy).
I hate to sound like the simpleton, but the job of the GM is to assemble a team that best compliments itself as a full unit. Granted, most say it was LeBron who orchestrated this whole thing, but even if that's the case, I think LeBron knows what is best for assembling that desired concoction of talent.
I'm rooting for them. Should be a really exciting NBA Finals.

If there's one aspect of Michigan that I'm must supportive of, its the fact that we have a history of doing things "the right way." We don't hire guys or recruit guys (for the most part) with questionable character.
I get that we want to win, but part of this university's allure, at least to me, is that we have achieved greatness and we didn't have to compromise to get there.
You may say that such an era no longer exists. Maybe that's true. But what we love about Michigan, the fanfare, the pagentry, the Winged Helmet, all of those things shine a little brighter becuase Michigan has had the privelege of achieving greatness without needing to suffer the scrutiny of potential malfeasance.
For those who want to bring up stretch gate (which would be dumb), we were great before that.

You think he has the chops to be a HC in the NFL? DL coach maybe.
Having said that, I think Hoke's passion for coaching revolves around being able to impact young players. By the time they get to the NFL they are kind of a finished product as far as moral fiber and molding into "young men" is concerned. I don't see him staying in the NFL as a DL coach long if that's the direction he goes in the short term. He's a college football coach at heart and will find himself a better fit at a smaller school I think.

In all seriousness though, even Dabo, the Kind of Clemsoning, would be an upgrade to the HC we have currently. Amiright?
Don't get me wrong. Its hi time for Harbaugh (Harbaugh: 2015!!) but of all the names that have been floated out there (Todd Graham?? Greg Schiano??????) Dabo is not the craziest.

I don't understand that. I mean, I get that we hate OSU, blah blah blah, but at the end of the search, don't we want the best man for the job? If the best man were from OSU, and he wanted to come here, we wouldn't take him? I'm not advocating for Urbs. Not that he would come to M anyway...
The expectation is for the position! Whoever we hire better be able to handle the job. That's all I ask.

|2 years 11 weeks ago||Okay, this I don't get.||
Okay, this I don't get. Gardner has struggled, the fanbase clambors for Shane Morris, they may or may not switch to him, but if they do we say that the coaching staff is grasping at straws?
What we have blasted Hoke for over the last few years (Borges mostly but it appears to be Hoke as well) is his unwillingness to make critical changes. Now, this may not be the right change. I think our personnel is much more suited to a spread-them-out pass to run kind of an offense. But if he's going to make a change, some attempt to get the team better, how can we say that's grasping at straws?
|2 years 11 weeks ago||I disagree. What we need is||
I disagree. What we need is more 3 TE sets. Maybe bump that up to 4 TE sets. Do we have enough TEs for a 5 TE set? Gardner thrives with more TEs in my opinion.

|2 years 13 weeks ago||I hear a lot of people say||
I hear a lot of people say how they like Hoke as a person -- comes across as down to earth and really invested in the players he oversees -- but the consensus almost to a person is that, despite his likeability, he has absolutely no clue what he is doing.
I think part of this is the old George W. Bush syndrome. Lots of people didn't like him because of the way he talked i.e. perceived to be either arrogant or stupid or both. I am not making a judgement on Hoke or ex-President Bush, but if perception is reality...
Here's hoping this staff can get their shit figured out.

but I think that play was more a miscommunication than anything else. The D was in zone and my guess is that in that situation Funchess was supposed to sit down into the zone's open space. Either way, it was an all-around solid performance on both sides of the ball.

I totally agree. Let's be honest here. OSU is going to reload with Barrett and they are going to come prepared every week. Are there some question marks on their O-Line and secondary? Sure. But this is a team that's going to be well coached and their other skill position players are really good.
Now lets go out there and kick their ass!
|2 years 16 weeks ago||Timing of Content uploads||
I'm not sure how much this is already considered, but I'm wondering how much thought has been/is given to the time of content being added to the front page. Obviously some things just go up when they happen (i.e. a new player commits) but I know that my prime MgoBlog time is usually during lunch time and I'm always hoping/praying there will be some fresh content dropped right around that time.
As I speak, I see the Speight board post from Ace, so obviously we get a pretty good continual flow of new/fresh content from the board's powers-that-be. Just my two cents though.

All kidding aside, this sounds exactly like what everyone inside the program has said is happening. The Ben Braden CtK talks about how much the guys are pushing each other, not starters to 2nd string, but the whole group.
Hoke continues to emphasize it. I saw a few people say it and I will echo them: Lets just wait and see what the product is on the field. If they suck in a few weeks, criticize away. For now though, let the coaches and the players do their work.

RT - Mason Cole
|2 years 18 weeks ago||I agree with your assessment,||
I agree with your assessment, and you are right, he was a 4*. Obviously the coaches thought there were holes in his game last year or they would have played him more, so you are spot on.
FWIW, I listened to the Hoke fall camp presser and he was name dropping Thomas at the safety position. We will see how it all shakes out in a few weeks!

I'm really surprised how little talk Dymonte Thomas continues to get. He was a highly touted 5* recruit. I really hope he is a big time sleeper this year. M needs to get top production from these kinds of recruits.
This is in no way a slight against anyone who has NOT put DT on their excitement level lists, btw. Just my 2 cents.

|2 years 18 weeks ago||Its hard to extrapolate too||
Its hard to extrapolate too much from this... Both jumped around a bit as coordinators are want to do and Borges had a pretty good track record pre-UofM stop. There a lot of moving parts that get to those numbers so would be hesitent to make any real judgement based on the above, but it is still good information to have.
I do know there have been some other kinds of comprehensive reviews of Borges' career that might indicate his jumpiness is due to an inability to take a team to the next level FWIW.
