Last time we beat OKie St in the tourney. We pulled off a stunner in the next round. Let's go history repeating itself
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Poor Robinson||
He had 3 fouls where he made 0 contact. 1) the fore mentioned 3 pointer 2) when he backed away from his guy on the baseline and the guy fell down trying to shoot 3) the 'illegal' screen call where he ran away from both the guy and the direct line to where the defender should go (ok, there was contact on that play but nothing remotely close to a foul)
|5 weeks 4 hours ago||a couple like that||
but far more where there wasn't even acting to excuse the terrible call.
|5 weeks 5 hours ago||Walton and Wilson disagree||
Walton and Wilson disagree with you. Both of them shot the ball 6 feet on 10 foot shots with nothing called.
|5 weeks 5 hours ago||Wisconsin game, higher leverage but waaayyy fewer||
In Madison, it was a 4-5 minutes stretch of terrible calls to move both Wagner and Wilson from 1 foul to 4 and open a 10 point lead. Tonight's were far worse calls, and a whole lot more of them.
|5 weeks 5 hours ago||Indeed he did.. Also on the||
Indeed he did.. Also on the jump ball call before that. Guy took 3 steps and 2 hops before anyone got to him.
|5 weeks 5 hours ago||certainly more contact than||
Robinson or Walton's fouls on 3-point shots earlier.
He was also fouled on the hoop to cut it to 1 15 seconds earlier. At least according to the precedent set by the refs in this game. You could see JB losing it on that one.
|5 weeks 5 hours ago||14 non-contact fouls||
I was at 13 completely terrible fouls whistled on Michigan when the bench got the technical. (I didn't include that one since feet were moving and it was a ~25% chance of that going against you). It went to 14 when Walton got called for hitting the elbow on the 3 point shot a couple of possessions later. 14 of the 28 fouls were 100% wrong.
And that doesn't count anything on the offensive end of the floor. Like DJ getting blatantly hacked on the possession immediately after the technical.
Worst homer job I have seen in a while.
|8 weeks 11 hours ago||foul trouble||
couldn't sit Irvin since MAAR and Wagner picked up really cheap fouls early. The bench got shortened and any aggressiveness was removed quickly.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||included in that 15-0 run||
Mo getting pulled down by an arm around his waist...no call
Blatant moving pick leads to wide open 3 for UW
Over the back gives UW another possession and a 3
So, yeah, I'll include the refs on that part, as well.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||From 13:00 to 10:30 to go||
just wow. UM had UW rattled. Wisconsin was playing poorly and UM was in their head. Then terrible 3rd foul on Mo, terrible 3rd and 4th fouls on DJ and it was over (even with the 8 point lead and ball). Sure, the last 10 minutes had a variety of bad calls, poor offensive possessions, and Wisconsin making some plays, but the key were those fouls with 10+ minutes to go.
|10 weeks 4 days ago||OT - never seen it||
I have never seen bad calls lead to 7 point runs so often in one game. (I guess that's not so surprising when the opponent scored on about 90% of their possessions. Which is on topic for the rest of this thread).
From Walton's charge call to about 12 minutes to go, there were about 4 terrible calls against UM. In every one of them UI went on ~7 point runs. Or maybe I should look at it as, there were 4 bad calls against UM while UI went on a 30-10 run?
The duo of the terrible charge on Walton (plus the technical) along with the charge on Wagner where the guy was both late and inside the arc was particularly frustrating in the 17-2 run to finish the half.
This team just doesn't have it to bow their backs and stop those runs more quickly.
|11 weeks 1 day ago||Difference in this game||
Bad shooting team has best shooting game of their season. (Four sub-30% shooters combine to shoot 8-11 from 3, about 2 of them were catch and shoot). Michigan outscored and outshot MD from 2. Forced a bad shooting team to shoot long 3s, and MD made them.
|12 weeks 8 hours ago||It was intentional||
As they had a could to give, and it still wasn't called.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||Oline or WRs||
I understand why people are on the oline, but a few of them weren't quick sacks. Whether that's WRs or the QB (or route combos), I can't say, but it isn't all on the line.

Pre-rankings but the best 1,2 ever. Toomer was a top 5 overall type.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||the dumbest meme in sports||
Don't let the officials decide a game, let the players decide it.
2 of the incorrect calls in OT would fall into this category. (don't call a PI on a critical play, don't make the game end by a close spot) so those don't impact the outcome? Dumb.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||and OSU had their chance||
and they came up a half yard short
|17 weeks 1 day ago||lots of 50-50 breaks||
The fumble rolling right to a player laying on the ground
The non-PI in the first quarter stops a drive
No block in the back on the 2nd interception return
No holding on the 3rd down before the last 4th down
The spot on that last 3rd down
3-4 passes being batted straight in the air by our defense and not being caught
|17 weeks 1 day ago||the hits just keep on coming||
2 plays after Hill's PI, there was a play where the OSU receiver had a first down and retreated to short of the first down. On that play, Peppers was spinning him around and UM ripped the ball out just as the whistle blew. His forward progress was never really stopped, and it was probably technically a fumble. (I didn't think so live, but on replay, check it out)
Just like most of the rest of these, the call wasn't terrible, but it was probably wrong.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||Harbaugh's point||
is that your point is exactly wrong. He is saying that UM did make the plays to win the game. In particular, the next to last play. Good call and we are talking about what a great play they made to win.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||just rewatched the PI on Hill||
Wow, that was terrible. The ball was past them before the shoulder was turned. Both a legal play and an uncatchable pass. 2 reasons why this was not PI.
Kind of the opposite of the early non-PI on...Butt? There he was held before the ball got there, and the other DB who was covering the other receiver just ran through him while the ball was in the air. Both guys committed clear PI on this one.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||osu had the same||
a way more obvious hands to the face not called back by their goal line (I think we got the sack anyway)
clear block in the back on the 2nd interception return. Would have put the ball at the 30 instead of the 6.
So I guess what you are saying is championship level teams don't get called for their penalties?
|17 weeks 1 day ago||and if the officials||
mark the ball correctly on the 2 penultimate plays, we would have won.
Sure, some things you control, others you don't. But both matter.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||Don't forget||
a missed block in the back on the 2nd TD that gave OSU the ball inside the 10 instead of the 30. For a team that hadn't moved the ball 30 yards in the previous 10 possessions, that's a big difference. But of course, as you say, those things are irrelavent.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||which one?||
are you complaining about a 3rd down call when you have to go for it on 4th? Which they did for a TD.
|17 weeks 1 day ago||to be fair||
The 3rd down spot on the previous play was even further off. should have been 4th and just over 1, instead of 4th and 2 inches.
|18 weeks 5 hours ago||To be fair...it was 4 times||
1) extra 0.5 off the clock when Harris was fouled, should have been 3.9, went to 3.4
2) extra 0.5 on the time out call. Went from 3.4 to 2.4. Should have been from 3.9 to 3.4
3) extra 0.5 on the inbounds play that was batted down. went from 2.4 to 1.6. Should have been 3.4 to 3.1
4) then the final play where the clock started on the throw instead of the catch
And then the refs just made up a rule. Ummmm, the buzzer sounded too soon, but he missed the shot anyway, so good enough. That's not the rule. Inadvertant buzzer. Offensive team's ball where they had it. Taking it out of bounds on the offensive end (probably under the bucket) with 1.6, which really should have been 3.1.
MSU had a really good whistle all night. Why not on the final plays, too. Not so good to see you Bob, we really didn't miss you.

This turned into a game of field position. Their good punts insiide the 10, our fumble, and the last punt return were the difference.

The pitching is better in the tournament. But notice that UM outhit their opponent in both losses. These games come down to timely hitting and some luck. One team hits a line drive right at the CF and other gets one up the gap. One team has to make the quick turnaround from midnight to noon.

And you don't need an out. If you have a runner on 3rd and the fielder throws home to try to get that lead runner, it is a FC if they could have gone to first and made the play, as well. FC whether they get the runner at the plate or not.
|49 weeks 1 day ago||Last run||
If Abby can score from 2nd, and the runner on first can get thrown out at 3rd (not 2nd), how does Romo get a FC? Sounds more like a single, and probably an odd RBI.
|49 weeks 5 days ago||Minutes at the 4-5||
MSU's minutes at the 4-5 were already interesting with their 2 smaller, backup 4's transferring. They have Schilling, Goings (man, we he a fortunate addition), and freshman Ward. Those are all 20 minute/game guys. That leaves 20 minutes open. Who will fill those? Bridges? Harris? Am I missing someone?

I'm seeing a lot of Chatman, or maybe Wilson, in the rotation at the 4, when MaAR, Robinson, or Irvin come out. (Irvin moves to the 3 when MAAR or Robinson come out). Seems like Chatman was close to grabbing that rotation spot from Dawkins anyway.

More solid depth. With so few backcourt folks healthy, JB absolutely coached the team to not foul even more than usual. More depth allows: more energy (fewer minutes played), more aggression (competent backups), and sustained shooting later in the year (again with fewer minutes played/game).
Rahk to find an appropriate role. He was a black hole these last few games. Very inefficient. If he can learn to pass, great. If he can't, then be much more selective in going to the hoop.
One of the existing not--quite bigs to be a solid backup at the 4 for Irvin. UM relies on the 4 to give a bigger positive mismatch on offense than the negative that they are on defense. Kam showed some flashes, including being able to defend the 4. or...
JB to tweak his offense to allow one of the bigs to play a more traitional 4 without losing his JB-ness. With the number of bigs on next year's team, this would help the depth problem in the backcourt.
Continue to be a very good defensive rebounding team (even if most don't realize it) and a very good team at not allowing transition baskets.
That should lead to the double-bye at next year's BTT.
|1 year 1 week ago||defensive RB rate||
and our team defensive RB rate is in the top 3 in the B1G. Tonight we got out-rebounded but had 11 offensive rebounds to their 5 which is really a win. Basic looks at stats often lead to incorrect conclusions.
|1 year 1 week ago||Not tonight||
I agree. It was something like 30-24. But ND is the most UM-like team out there. Check out the Purdue and MD games at home (the best bigs in the b1g) and most games since. My point is that most poeple on here think we get destroyed inside regularly, which isn't actually true.
|1 year 1 week ago||take out the first 15 games||
Irvin played his way back from back surgery. Those first games hardly represent who he is now. Sure he shot poorly tonight. Go back and look at Lou Bullock vs. UCLA...it happens.
|1 year 1 week ago||layups by the bigs||
UM had 3 big possessions down the stretch that led to layups by the bigs. One had a terrible block called vs. Wagner. One was a Donnal layup for 2. One was a missed layup by Donnal. (and another led to 2 shots by Donnal, I believe) Does JB not get any credit for those sets? No adjustments? Those were followed by open looks for 3 by Walton and Irvin. They missed them. When Robinson hit those in the BTT, we were all happy. Misses today lead people to say we had bad coaching.
|1 year 1 week ago||I break it into 3 parts||
They can be inter-related, but it works well for me. Irvin and Walton missed really good looks in the final 60+ seconds, and ND hit a tough shot from over 20 feet away as the shot clock ran out to take the ultimate lead. That's often the difference when evenly matched teams play.
By some people's logic, ND should have fired their coach at halftime, and UM should fire JB now. Others of us see this one as normal ebbs and flows, with one team winning. Sure, the final possession from UM wasn't good. That's legit. And ND had 2 (3) bad possessions leading up to that one, but since they won, shallow people won't remember that UM played well on defense there.
|1 year 1 week ago||+1||

|1 year 1 week ago||quality of shots||
Our shot quality was as good as theirs. We missed, they didn't. Not coaching. (i also distunguish between execution and shooting. This one was primarily shooting, not as much on execution)
|1 year 1 week ago||You are right, and....||
our recruiting has been vastly underrated on this blog. Walton, Irvin, Chatman, and Wagner are all top 50 kids (Wagner wasn't rated officially, but was generally considered in this range). Donnal and Wilson were both top 100.
By star ratings, we have more stars than MSU. We are bringing in another 50-60 rated recruit and 3 more solid, b1g level other guys. We are truly not Kentucky or Duke, and MSU is bringing in an amazing class. We are still top 5 b1g in stars.
|1 year 1 week ago||The end of the game||
The last 5 minutes sucked, but if you watch again, UM played better down the stretch. Donnal had that layup. Irvin and Walton had great, open 3s, which they missed.
ND hit a 25 foot 3 at the end of the shot clock, and rebounded an air ball (due to good defense by Donnal) for a put back.
UM forced a TO and had a good stop to set up the final, missed 3 from Irvin.
The final look from Irvin wasn't great, but wasn't terrible for a shot with 15 seconds left in the game.
And it all turned on that foul on Wagner, which was a terrible call.
Bottom line, JB did a good job. Donnal did a good job. UM missed shots. ND hit shots. That's more bad luck than anything. I'm bummed, but lack the anger that many on here seem to have. This team will be good next year as long as we stay healthy in both the off-season and through the year. 5 minutes less for Walton and Irvin will do us well down the stretch.
I haz snowflakes.
|1 year 1 week ago||2 bigs||
UM's strategic advantage goes away if they play 2 bigs very much. People complain that the bigs aren't better, but UM consistently wins the 4-5 position battles statistically (just not visually). UM's biggest deficit this year was at the 2-3 position. Not surprisingly, the positions where we lost a lottery pick!
Remember, they won 2 big team titles with Jordan Morgan at the 5 and GR3 or Zach Novak at the 4. You have to be who you are.
|1 year 1 week ago||Eye test vs. reality||
The eye test agrees with you, but the stats don't bear it out. Our bigs held their own in every game except the tourney game vs. Purdue. For a a team not built around their bigs, that's solid performance.
And when our big's rotation had 2 sophmores and 2 freshman, that is especially not bad. I expect our bigs to continue to not be a liability next year and usually be an advantage.
|1 year 1 week ago||To be fair||
First ,Caris was supposed to be the star.
Second, Irvin missed the entire off-season with back surgery. Then he played a ton of minutes. We should all expect him to take a big step forward next year.
|1 year 1 week ago||You are just as wrong||

|1 year 1 week ago||Bullock vs UCLA||
Irvin is stil a 40% shooter and has hit key shots all month. That's his shot, not to mention it wasn't a terrible look. I'll take that over what Kam made vs. Indiana.
|1 year 1 week ago||Irvin missed the entire off season||
His early season stats shoud largely be ignored (and some of him playing into shape was a big cause of the UConn and X games). Nobody believed Valentine was a fBig Ten first teamer a year ago, much less an all-american. Irvin's first 2 years showed a lot of promise. He was getting pretty good at the pick and roll last year. And his shot, with good legs, is a solid 40%. Put those together with a solid off season and we will see. I'm not saying he will be national POY by any stretch, but 1st team all B1G is well within reach.
|1 year 1 week ago||did you rewatch the final 5 minutes?||
None of their points down the stretch was on him. He helped once, made a good play and Walton/Irvin didn't help for the rebound, but that was it.
Tell me on which play you disagree.
|1 year 1 week ago||It's a SD local (but not Sculpin)||
but why? Which part don't you see. They got 10 points from their 5 position, we got 15. We almost never lose the 5 position. We lose the 2-3. Robinson and MAAR. We lost tonight because Beachem went 7-7 with 4-4 from 3. That was it. ND is a 6 seed, ie 21-24 national rank. With our entire team back, and nobody having off-season surgery, we are already even with them. Why do you think UM isn't top 20 next year. The biggest issue down the stretch was too many minutes played and guys getting tired. One more guy in the rotation will help that significantly.
|1 year 1 week ago||I'm glad JB is our coach||
and not you.
Some people love the look. UM looks way worse than we are. MSU looks way better than they are. MAAR does what he does, but he doesn't create anything other than his own show. Last game people talked like he was player of the game with his 5-14 shooting with 0 assists. That doesn't get it done. Walton and Irvin are our guys. Play though them and the team is better, even if you untrained 'coaches' can't see it. Advanced metrics don't lie.
|1 year 1 week ago||You have all lost your collective minds||
Rewatch it. UM played well down the stretch. UM had better shots and played better defense. ND hit some shots, UM missed good looks. It happens. That doesn't mean you have a bad coach, and it doesn't mean you have bad players.
Good game, good playing, bad result.
This is a top 20 team next year with one more player in the rotation at the 1-3 (Simpson or Watson) If Irvin is healthy all summer, he will be ready to be 1st team all B1G.
|1 year 1 week ago||Your analysis is all kinds of wrong||
a rebound going over your head happens on 75% of plays. Rewatch that one and see if anything looks odd about that one. Hint, it doesn't. BTW, that possesion ended in an offensive foul on ND.
Donnal missed a contested lay-up which may have been tipped. Ok.
Irvin, our best shooter takes a shot at the end of the game down 3. Good thing Tery Burke never tried a 30 foot contested 3 vs. Kansas. Sometimes, that's all you get.
Yes, they lost. Sorry, there wasn't anyting especially bad about the end of that game. ND hit some shots, UM didn't.
|1 year 1 week ago||Donnal scored the last 3 points||
played good defense and fought for rebounds. One missed shot does not make him terrible. He played well in those last 5 minutes. If Walton or Irvin make any of those 3 open 3's, we have a very different game.
Also, one awful call on the Wagner 3 point play was by far the biggest play of the game.
|1 year 1 week ago||watch those last 5 minutes again||

Anyone or any system that will choose a team because they beat the #200 ranked team over a team that beat #300 is really dumb. Sure JB could/should stop scheduling them, but other team's schedule is not really tougher because of it. X, SMU, U Conn, Texas is not the 150th toughest non-conference schedule. |1 year 2 weeks ago||You don't get it||
Coach B has a philosophy, and it works. He recruit the type of players that fit his system. mark D is a solid 5 in that system. He gives you a mismatch on one end to create one on the other end. Next the bigs will be more experienced (Donnal and Doyle were much improved in the 2nd half of the season), hopefully Irvin will be healthy to start the year. All they need is more depth at the 1-3.5 positions. A solid freshman guard plus the apparent emergence of Chatman should give those guys more rest and allow them to not be exhausted come February.

Sure many of us on this board will still not understand what JB is trying to do (the same group that doesn't know that UM's 4 and 5 out scored Wisconsin's and Maryland's, and still complain that we need to be bigger). So we will have the same conversations.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||But why not||
If you are a 10 seed today, losing to a 7 on the road and a 2-3 at home is expected. That doesn't make you worse to me. Using that same logic, I agree with you on the worth of beating Nebraska.
|1 year 4 weeks ago||DVR||
I watch a lot of games like this one....5 hours after it was live. I miss the game thread to help me through those stretches like the beginning of each half
|1 year 5 weeks ago||Again with the eye test||
You are judging more on how it looks and not the results. This group:
|1 year 5 weeks ago||It's hard to judge||
A year ago, I thought this team could end up a top 10 team. I still stand by that. With Spike and Caris, the small 4 had awesome depth, were very experienced, everyone could shoot, you had both Caris and Zac to run the pick and roll, not to mention Walton. And once Zac was healthy, you saw what the inside guys could do in that Illinois game.
|1 year 5 weeks ago||How can you tell anything?||
What could you see?
|1 year 5 weeks ago||At Purdue||
That game was a 6 point game with about 5 minutes to go. I'll call that one not a blow out either. But the point remains.
|1 year 6 weeks ago||All northern schools||
Have teams take spring break trips to practice and/or compete. (See softball/baseball for example). I went on spring break track trips to Clemson. It was fun.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||This team minus Caris||
Is tied with MSU in the standings.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||How is next year worse?||
They have 0 seniors aging and all of the 4s and 5s on the roster are freshman and sophomores
|1 year 7 weeks ago||And the other 9 conference games don't count?||
You talk about it being a results based business out of one side of your mouth, and then say that looking at results more than a week old isn't fair.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||MSU 7-4 (seniors leading team)||
UM 7-4, both seniors out for entire B1G season
|1 year 7 weeks ago||And fans||
That don't understand JB's system/strategy
|1 year 7 weeks ago||Won B1g title by what? 3 games?||
Then has had 2 seasons with his best player being hurt, and last year had unexpected attrition at a position of need (Horford). Relax.
|1 year 7 weeks ago||watched the game out of order||
I saw the last 10 minutes first. So when I watched the 25-0 run, I knew it was coming. That let me keep my sanity through it. I'm a big believer in Dylan's 5 key plays. I hope 1 (or 4) of them, were the 4 terrible calls in the middle of it. First Robinson's 2nd foul, which put him on the bench, of course, was terrible.
|1 year 9 weeks ago||I know I am 15 hours late||
But I watched this on DVR. I think the best summary of that is....Maryland, welcome, again, to the B1G. Go on the road to MSU (or IU...or generally) and you get this crap.
|1 year 9 weeks ago||Last possession||
2 blatant travels. Egad refs, when a player fakes a pass and keeps walking. It is a travel. Davis took 4-5 steps
|1 year 10 weeks ago||Clemson||
Starting a few years back they surprised me, similar to MS. They had had a little more recent success, but not enough to vault to the #1 class a few years back
|1 year 10 weeks ago||We actually did||
We recovered the muff....then the really bad part happened
|1 year 10 weeks ago||Surprised||
This wasn't Illinois just having a great shooting game. On offense, Illinois got good shot after good shot. On defense, Purdue couldn't get anything going with their bigs against the same Ill defense that Donnal dominated.
|1 year 10 weeks ago||100%||
That got it going and allowing Porter to cause the final scrum plus calling a penalty on a guy for pretending to try to break through the ref holding him back (only happened about 20 other times tonight without a call). The Bengals did almost enough to lose, but the refs put it over the top. Poor job at 2 key moments.
|1 year 14 weeks ago||Tim B||
This proves Biakabatuka deserved it over George, /s since Timmy was an injury caused bust. That year was funny. George had 2 200+ yard non-conference games, one vs ND to get a head start on the hype. In Big10 play, I thought George was only the 3rd best back. Timmy (obviously) and the kid from NW were amazing that season.
|1 year 17 weeks ago||Elliot||
another first half with 10 carries. jut like last week
|1 year 18 weeks ago||Win probability||
Am I misreading that? It looks like UM scores to tie game in OT 1, IU's chance to win tumbles, but when UM scores in OT2, IU's win prob moves back up?obviously I'm reading it wrong.

I must have seen something wrong. Maybe it was just 3rd down passing

Outside of the 2 TDs, we are 4-4 for -12 passing!?!?

This summer we were in Paris and popped into McD's for a drink. I couldn't resist getting a Royale with cheese. Thanks, Quentin.
|1 year 22 weeks ago||That's after||
He knees him in the head too. Not to mention the other guy who took 3 steps after the whistle and then landed on Rudock
|1 year 22 weeks ago||MD saved||
Yet Another reason that ending was so frustrating, is that MD botched the game so badly and would have been a big goat. The fake punt was just stupid, and wasting his final TO was awful. Assuming the ultimate ending didn't happen, MSU should have been getting the ball back with almost a minute remaining. But that dumb TO should have sealed the loss....should have, sigh.
|1 year 22 weeks ago||2 extra letters||
Just like everyone using 'at' to finish a sentence that adds nothing. "Where is it?" Is correct, "where's it at?" Is not.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||3rd time||
In my UM fandom. Plus 1-1 in OT. Michigan has won some close ones, but none on flukey/stupid plays

Did 74 dive in Bolden with the crown of his helmet in that play?
|1 year 23 weeks ago||Good grief||
He neither led with his head (both hands held him up before the hit) nor used the crown of his helmet.

|1 year 24 weeks ago||JT Barrett||
"He is one of the best runners in all of college football". Hyperbole much?
|1 year 24 weeks ago||How to answer?||
It's an away game in the US? SoCal games, this one in the Rose Bowl, can be like home games for Mexico.
|1 year 24 weeks ago||Coaching and time||
3 years ago, I thought this was our year. The great O-line recruiting would finally be bearing fruit. 10 returning starters on offense, plus a 5-ish star QB being the new starter (which obviously isn't the case). The big question mark on d from back then was middle lb, and we got a 5th year out of Morgan.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||JH looks confused||
Says, 'but it was 4th and 16?'
|1 year 28 weeks ago||Cold on Perry||
He had 2-3 great blocks last week. Misses 1 this week and 'Perry can't block'. That's cold

|1 year 35 weeks ago||Denard's record||
Being lazy, but isn't Braxton within range of Denard's NCAA record for career rushing yards by a QB? (Miller has more starts than Denard already) This would end that pursuit.
|1 year 35 weeks ago||I like those categories||
1) Michigan football, basketball, and softball. USMNT for important games
|1 year 39 weeks ago||Is there really anything new here?||
I didn't learn anything I didn't already know or assume.

|1 year 41 weeks ago||Chop block||
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Reasonable call but||
As you say, if it was fair....so calling it fair would have been reasonable, too.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Oh, balls and strikes||
That's where every team out there has legit complaints. Sure there were some terrible calls, like that pitch a foot outside called against Abby, but if that's where the complaints are, then I agree with the down voters out there.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||I'll go 50-50 on this one||
True, there were about 4 or 5 50/50 calls in this game, and none of them went our way.
- they hit ~4 balls where at least 90%, and probably 100% of their foot was out of the batter's box. That includes the 4th RBI hit. None of them were called.
- Romo's potential double down the line was a really tough call for the plate ump (I think he made the call). He needs to determine where the ball crosses the bag. from my guess, I would say it was within 1-2 inches. (If we were the team that always got calls, that would have been called fair, for sure)
I don't think any of the HBP's were really bad calls, with the possible exception of the first one. But even that one, her foot was out of the box, but it wasn't intentionally leaning into the pitch. I don't know the rule there.
What was worse in this game was that more of the 'almost hits' went against us (see SiLo's 2 line outs), while Haeger's RBI was off of a pitch where she was jammed and it fell. That's just softball (or baseball). It doesn't make UF less deserving, but it does make for a frustrating game.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Bat and ball sports||
Totally agree. I love some baseball and softball, but the down side is that there is a lot a luck involved.

|1 year 42 weeks ago||Tomorrow night||
More than just our first hitter scores.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Still defending her||
It was a very hard hit ball. She probably scores if she runs on contact, but maybe not if the ss comes home with it. With no outs, you have to be a little more careful.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Agree and||
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Get off it||
With no outs, you aren't necessarily running on contact there. If not, it was a hard smash right at the ss. If you aren't running on contact, that's exactly the ball you don't go on.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Missed opportunity||
More hits, "better outs". Florida stole one there.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Giving the p some credit||
Our hitters haven't made good contact but 2-3 times. Lots of just misses which generally means good movement and location
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Flexibility||
Hutch wanted to be able to switch her pitchers back and forth, so she made Wagner the DP.
|1 year 42 weeks ago||Tuesday morning pitchers||
They kept calling for the change up down and in. She threw it out of the zone and it gets jacked, then they have 20 reasons why that was a bad idea

That's the umpire mantra. So far lots of balls have been called strikes, and one clearly safe runner has been called out
|1 year 46 weeks ago||Due to attrition||
Not due to missing out on 5 star guys
|1 year 46 weeks ago||Congrats!||
This team has impressed from game 1 to the end of the regular season.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||Have you tried Tower 13?||
I haven't been there for a game yet, but I love the beach there. I'm planning on making out there for a game this year, assuming they are still hosting.

It would have been a 3 for the win. Far for guaranteed, but I really doubt that NC would have fouled
|1 year 51 weeks ago||Why not||
The Colorado Hail Mary is on here 100 times. Why not one that would have gone the other way
|1 year 51 weeks ago||How about....||
Under Izzo, in games where they, by seed, should be playing a top 4 seed they are:
14-9 against those top 4 seeds and
9-2 playing against lower seeds that had made it further than 'by-seed'.
and 1-1 when playing a lower top 4 seed than by seed (e.g. playing a 3 seed instead of the 2 in a regional final)
They have advanced further than their seed 9 times, same as seed 6, and less than 3 times.
They have advanced futher than their pre-season rankings 9 times, less than 7 times, and 2 equal.
