I got Drew Henson. He showed flashes of absolute brilliance while at UM, but ended up being remembered more for getting in Brady's way early and leaving Michigan for the Yankees (which I understand). He stated recently that he would have come back for his senior season given the choice again. I think he could have gone down as one of the greats had he stayed and concentrated exclusively on football, and would most likely have been a top-five draft pick. What could have been... |

The 2010 class is yet another reminder that we need to be patient with Coach Hoke and Co. He's still coaching mostly RR's players (Ryan and Gardner are more the exception than the rule), and it will take another year or two until his recruits take over the team. I can't wait. |

He might like Bama (I think it's more a respect thing for how they play), but I wouldn't call him a "homer". Danielson was born in Detroit, went to school at Purdue, and covered state of Michigan sports for years before making it to the national stage, first doing B1G with ESPN/ABC, then moving over to CBS, which happens to conver the SEC. |

Berkley ended up at Minnesota - doesn't justify Hoke's evaluation? If he ended up at Alabama or USC I might wonder. I realize that some kids slip through the recruiting cracks (Kovacs), but I would think that Hoke gave Berkley every benefit of the doubt, given the Braylon connection, and still wasn't impressed enough to extend an offer. |

Based on the early schedule, I see UM at 7-0 going into the MSU game. ND plays at the Big House, and they will have lost a ton of talent from this season, so I see M getting the victory. The final five games will be tough, but I see no reason why we can't go 3-2 down the stretch at worst. |

Part of the problem has been the lack of overall talent with the offense. The line minus Lewan is mediocre, and there is no real vertical WR threat. For that matter, we havein't had a consistent guy at RB all season. Without the two dynamic QBs, I can't imagine where this offense would be. |

Very nice story. My dad never liked football, so I missed the opportunity to bond at the stadium like that. You're lucky. |

Business of college football... Not sure how I feel about this. Anytime the word "business" is thrown in with college football the story is rarely positive. |
| 26 weeks 6 days ago | When Kovacs originally took |
When Kovacs originally took the field as a walk-on, I viewed him as the very symbol of a coaching regime which could not recruit effectively enough to, well, keep a walk-on off the field. I was utterly wrong, of course. He's been the leader of what turned out to be a very strong D. Kovacs is the senior I'll miss the most, after Denard. |

I agree, with the addition of the #98 jersey. |
| 27 weeks 3 days ago | I was thinking that Funchess |
I was thinking that Funchess would be the perfect candidate for Kramer's #87 jersey. I would think that Carter, Alexander, and Edwards would rather keep the #1 for a receiver. I also think that the #2 should be reserved strickly for a DB. |
| 27 weeks 3 days ago | I can't see them giving two |
I can't see them giving two Legends jerseys to the same kid in the same season. Getting the Howard jersey was honor enough.
|
| 27 weeks 3 days ago | I was there for the beatdown |
I was there for the beatdown we took fom Syracuse in '98. It was painful, but I did get to see McNabb vs. Brady, and got to see Drew Henson make his freshman debut. Michigan made it somewhat exciting toward the end, so that helped somewhat. I was also there at the end of the UTL game, which was going the same way as Syracuse till the last ten minutes. As you may have heard, the game turned out somewhat interesting. I never leave early, because I couldn't live with myself if I left a game like UTL and heard how it ended from my car radio.

| 27 weeks 4 days ago | Agree that Gardner should |

No chance for Minn., but Kinnick is a tough place to play, and Iowa will be out for blood after their spanking in Ann Arbor. |
| 27 weeks 4 days ago | I just can't get over how |
I just can't get over how well Gardner has played, and I wonder why he wasn't given reps at QB all season to provide insurance for Robinson. Gardner = win over Nebraska, IMO. If Robinson can't go next week, I think that Gardner should get the start against Ohio State, even if Robinson is healthy for OSU, if only because Robinson will likely be too rusty from all the misssed time. I haven't heard anything about Bellomy's status lately. I saw Kennedy warming up with Devin pre-game, but didn't see Bellomy all game. I know he's listed as injured, but havent' heard anything more. I wonder if there is something else going on. At this point, Bellomy's gonna be the odd man out, with Devin being the man next year and Morris as the man in waiting. |

Whatever the reason(s), empty seats at the very least gives the appearence to outsiders that the stadium is not selling out. None of us wants that. Huge crowds is one of the many things Michigan is famous for. |

I love Kovacs, but he's never going to get a Legends patch. Think of all the "legendary" Michigan players over the decades that never got one. |

Yeah, I remember that too. Several of the players, including Howard, said that they could never play for Ole Miss after seeing all those rebel flags. The flag was very prevelant back then at Ole Miss games. |
| 29 weeks 3 days ago | The defense has been great |
The defense has been great this season, including (and maybe especially) against Nebraska. A lesser defense might have allowed another 30 points after Denard went down. |
| 29 weeks 4 days ago | I think we'll appreciate him |
I think we'll appreciate him most next year, when he's gone for good. The new starter (whether Shane or Bellomy) is bound to have significant growing pains next year. I was hoping that Devin would be the guy stepping in with some experience to run the offense while Morris developed as his backup, but that doesn't seem likely anymore. Gardner was a 5-star coming in, and we were set up to have a much smoother transition than what we're likely to have now. |

| 30 weeks 4 days ago | The ranking doesn't really |
The ranking doesn't really matter at this point in the season if you're out of the national championship hunt. If UM takes care of it's schedule it can expect to make the Rose Bowl trip in the top ten. A Rose Bowl victory will assure a top five or six finish, I would think. |
| 30 weeks 4 days ago | Yeah, I saw it. I have it on |
Yeah, I saw it. I have it on DVR and have watched it several times. You are correct - Denard played his heart out for the win. I couldn't agree more. That's why I said that Denard deserves all the praise he gets. You need to read a little more closely before commenting. |
| 30 weeks 4 days ago | I am easily most impressed |
I am easily most impressed with the defensive turnaround, which was on full display last night. It seems impossible, since it was a national laughingstock just a couple years ago. Denard deserves all the praise he gets, but the defense is the heart of this team. |

Thanks for the advice. My wife just got off the phone with Dish and, after getting a fabulous initial offer of $5 off our bill for three whole months, we got the 10 bucks off for the next 12 months. Small consolation, but at least we were able to get something out of those pricks. The customer service agent thinks the impasse will be over within the next 24 hours. We'll see. |
| 37 weeks 3 days ago | Yeah, I'm sure that Howard |
Yeah, I'm sure that Howard approved it. It's nothing against Roundtree; I just believe that these numbers should be worn only by exceptional players. If you're going to un-retire legendary jerseys (as in Bennie's case), the players must have earned the priveledge, both on and off the field. |
| 37 weeks 3 days ago | In my opinion, no one this |
In my opinion, no one this season. It should go to a Woodson, Howard, Carter-type player. I'm not saying that no one should ever get it, I'm just saying that it should remain shelved until someone proves he deserves it. I also feel that Howard's #21 should not have gone to Roundtree, who has been just average. |
| 37 weeks 3 days ago | The silver lining for me is |
The silver lining for me is simple: there were a bunch of fresh-faced freshmen who got to see how the gold standard in college football (right now) performs on the national stage in a bowl-like setting. I'm sure they learned a lot - much, much more than a drubbing of a MAC team would - and this experience should serve them well going forward. |

I agree, but the talent is lacking at certain positions, and I maintain that once freshmen like Ross get acclimated to the speed of the college game we'll see a change or two. Not wholesale changes, but changes nonetheless. |

| 37 weeks 4 days ago | The Arizona game was eerily |
The Arizona game was eerily familiar to a three-year stretch of games up here. I don't know how many times Arizona was on the verge of blowing out Toledo, but for a series of inexplicable fumbles, drops, misreads, and missed tackles. Success is measured much differently at AZ. RRod will be fine as long as they're a slightly better than average. |

After being a 4WD truck owner for years, I now drive a '09 Legacy and love it. Subarus are quirky and fun to drive, and very reliable. FWIW, Consumer Reports ranks the Impreza as their number one compact car, and ranks Subaru as the most reliable brand this year. The new Impreza is getting great reviews, and the all wheel drive is a definite plus. |

I live in Norton Shores, just north of Grand Haven, and love Lake Harbor beach on the north side of where the Mona Lake channel meets Lake Michigan. Nice walking trail along the channel to the beach, picnic tables and grills, and about a mile of essentially untouched Lake Michigan shoreline. You'll have the beach you yourself, essentially, if you want to get away from the crowds. Might be worth the 15 minute drive from GH to get some peace and quiet.

Have seen the Peppers four times: at Pine Knob for Lalapalooza (with Ice Cube, Ministry, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden), and three times at Van Andel in GR. IMO, they are not the same without Frusciante - and that includes their stint with Dave Navarro, who fronts one of my all-time favorite bands (Janes Addiction). Frusciante is an absolute genius on guitar, and was the main architect of that unique Peppers sound from Blood Sugar Sex Magic though Stadium. Still love them, but even they'll admit that they're not the same without John. Best concert for me has to be the Metallica/Guns show at the Silverdome.

If AC had worn the #88 jersey then Braylon, David, Derrick, and Greg would have wanted that to wear #88. It's hard to ignore Carter's off the field issues, but I would still argue that the #1 jersey will forever be his. I would also argue that if not for those issues Carter would have received the "legend" honor before Howard (who is my all-time favorite Wolverine).

Yeah, it was Stanton over Harris, but what did Harris ever do? Way to go Millen! |

I think a mascot could really help us sell out some football games. Lord knows what a struggle it's been without one. |

Cowherd is the "bad boy" at ESPN. You never know what he'll say next. He's a real loose cannon, that guy. Don't tell him he can't wear jeans with a suit jacket... he's a maniac! Just another ESPN talking head who has nothing to say, and the biggest reason why I swore off sports talk radio in favor of blogs like this. |

I've always wondered if some coaches warn kids about how tough UM's academics are as a way to steer recruits away. I'd imagine a degree from Auburn would be somewhat, ah, easier to attain than one from UM. |

Love lists like these, and enjoyed your's, though it's incomplete without Oosterbaan and Erick Anderson as starters, in my opinion. And Harbaugh or Fiedman would be my starter at QB. |

Bummer. Hope he's happy there. Stanford is a great school. |

UM's uniforms are the best in college football just the way they are. This may be the wave of the future, but I'm not a fan.

Certainly a blow, but at least this wasn't announced on the eve of the season opener. The team has time to adjust, and the opening might just compel a cerain WR recruit to make a commitment. |

Love the Stripes, and while I think we have a bigger claim to the song than PSU (with Jack's and Meg's Detroit roots), I can't help but think that UM is copying Beaver Stadium every time I hear it played at the Big House. |
| 1 year 19 weeks ago | Michigan has the most iconic |
Michigan has the most iconic uniforms in college football without the helmet numbers. It was cool for a season, but I'd like to see them go, along with those damn alternate uniforms. I would like to see the helmet stickers return, though. |

Not sure what to make of that. I can't believe that ND was in any danger of losing him. |
| 1 year 20 weeks ago | Don't think he'll lose his |
Don't think he'll lose his job next season unless the team totally implodes. Kelly is a lot of things, but he can coach, and I think the brass at ND is growing tired of the coaching carosel the past few years. If not for their -424 turnover ratio, they'd have at least two more victories this season. The real test will be 2013 IMO. |
| 1 year 20 weeks ago | Well put CRex |
I agree. In the span of 12 short months, Hoke has built Bo-like credibilty. Not comparing Hoke to Bo, but Bo had complete and utter autonomy with his program, and NO ONE ever questioned that it was Bo's program, not even Canham. If Bo decided to take a chance on a player, it was understood that Bo knew what he was doing with his team, and that it was in the best interest of the team. Hoke has been able to gain the same type of trust. |
| 1 year 20 weeks ago | Michigan became "Quarterback |
Michigan became "Quarterback U" in the nineties and 2000s, sending Collins, Brady, Grbac, Henson, Griese and Henne to the pros (and Mallett was next). While it's been a great ride with Denard, it's exciting to see UM going back to the pro-style offense, and recruiting pro-style QBs like Morris. |
| 1 year 20 weeks ago | Speaking of Dorsey... |
"I'm in the same state!" Dorsey said. "Why would you miss out on your best shot in the state? C'mon, Brady Hoke!" From a Nov. 17 Detroit News article. Not saying that it'd be a good move for UM to take Dorsey, or that he's even eligible, but he sure does seem determined on playing for the boys in blue.

| 1 year 20 weeks ago | Like it or not, the southern |
Like it or not, the southern states by and large have an enormous advantage in HS football talent. It's hard to honestly compare the Midwest talent base to that of the deep south when it comes to football. SEC schools have talented rosters. Couple that with the win-at-all-costs mentality of most SEC schools, and this is the result.

| 1 year 20 weeks ago | With NE needing a win to sew |
With NE needing a win to sew up home field, I expect Brady to get those 188. Amazing that one of the greatest players in the history of the NFL was a primarily a platoon player at Michigan. Easy to take it for granted now, but there are three shoo-in NFL Hall of Famers from Michigan playing right now in Brady, Woodson, and Hutchinson. This will give UM 11 in the HOF, which will surpass ND's 10 and will tie USC's 11 all-time. Keep going, Jake Long!
