| 5 hours 36 min ago | appraisal clause |
It is possible to add an appraisal clause to your sale contract that says that the sale of the house is NOT contigent on the appraisal. What this means for the buyer is that they are essentailly agreeing to cover the difference between the sale price and the appraised price with cash. If you have three full price offers, there's a chance that one of those buyers would be willing to do this. We have been looking for a house in Ann Arbor for months, but the market is like sharks... we used this clause in our contract so that we would have a chance against "all cash" offers which have been blowing us out of the water all month. The last place we offered on had EIGHT offers, four all cash. The Ann Arbor market has exploded. |

I think the greater point is that any large university campus is going to have its share of hot women. The only thing that may vary is the proportion of the female population that's hot from institution to institution. But the relative proportion of attractive women is really only relevant to average Joe's in terms of increasing their chances of "making it" with someone out of their league. Football players, on the other hand, would seem to have their "pick of the litter" due to their status on campus, and therefore, it is illogical that they would use the relative proportion of hot women on campus as a factor in college choice. |

Another way of putting it... whichever fan base can outsmart the other in terms of drumming up fake votes should win... this kind of creative thinking should be rewarded, not punished. After all, we're talking about a contest for the cover of a video game that changes frequently, not a new federal budget. |

There is no doubt about Clowney's talent. The problem I have with all of the attention that he is getting for that hit was that it really didn't involve any special talent. After a missed block, he had a free hit on a RB half his size, and ran him over. Visually spectacular? Yes. Game-changing? Yes. But an example of a play that epitomizes something special about his technique or knowlege of the game? Nope. There are probably 100 D-linemen in NCAA football that would have made the same play in the same circumstance. |

The other contradiction about that kind of statement is that typically it's coming from the same kind of fan that is worried that the Big Ten isn't attracting enough talent to compete with SEC. Well, either good players come to the Big Ten and we play against them and have a better conference, or they go elsewhere and the conference continues to try to get out from under the shadow of the SEC. You can't have it both ways. |

"...and they have a good medical program for me." It's not infrequent that recruits say something like this, and I'm always curious to understand what they are referring to. When I was an undergrad, there was no "pre-med" major. Is there now? Or maybe the 'academic support services' that assist the athletes have developed some type of pre-med track? Yes, Michigan has a great medical school, but that fact has very little impact on you as an undergrad. |

I mean, if Saban said I was their #1 guy, but I knew he was saying that to 3 other guys, I'm not sure I would totally write off Alabama as a possibility. On the flip side, it is nice to see that it is serving as some type of filter or standard for some recruits. The kids who value honesty, integrity, and transparency... those are kids with the kind of character that one wants (in addition to their physical talent). |

Anthony Orr was a top 30 DE with 3 stars on both Scout and Rivals with offers from half a dozen SEC schools. But your point still stands, especially considering he grey-shirted. | 13 weeks 3 days ago | Word. |
I've always respected the fact that the mod's of this blog will quickly delete or lock any thread regarding rumors or tweets of alleged/speculated/implied/unproven illegal or immoral activity. It's messy stuff that, as tempting as it is, should just be avoided. |
| 13 weeks 3 days ago | I respect that. And just to |
I respect that. And just to be clear, I am not questioning Ace's honesty or integrity here in the slightest. I have no doubt that Ace interviewed this guy, and this guy said what Ace reported that he said. But how do I know this guy is telling the truth? How do I know he isn't embellishing? How do I know he didn't misunderstand his conversation with the girl? How do I know he doesn't have a personal vendetta against the guy with the headband and is determined to smear him in public? So to me the issue is a sourcing issue. Ace talked to an unidentified guy (at least to us) who talked to an unidentified girl who said that the other guy groped her (maybe, after she thought about it for a bit). To take that kind of information and spin it as, that guy sexually assaulted that girl, and this gif should be turned over to the police.... man, as they say here in Missouri... that gets my back up. (I honestly can't tell if that DPS comment was meant to be funny.) And then we could go on to debate "grope" vs. "grab" vs. "pat" vs. "incidental contact," which is all a matter of perspective, as proven by the fact that multiple reasonable people on this blog have looked at the same gif and drawn completely different conclusions. But let's not. All I'm asking is a little more thought when writing about situations like this. My perspective is one of a guy who had his life turned upside down by a false accusation. So when I read this thread and looked at that gif, I bristled at the conclusions getting potentially spun out of control in a morass of hearsay and speculation... this guy with the headband, innocent or not, will forever be labeled on the pervert groper on MGoBlog. And with the level of factual information that we have, that's not fair.
|
| 13 weeks 3 days ago | Disagree |
No. We know that some guy (who refuses to even be identified by name) SAYS these two people (who happened to be dressed alike and sitting next to each other) don't know each other. That does not make it FACT. It merely makes it HEARSAY (as pointed out above). To report it as FACT is completely irresponsible. And if completely irresponsible journalism at the risk of someone's reputation (if not more) is your standard, then maybe I need to rethink my participation in this forum. It strikes me as odd that Rapture Guy brought up Headband Guy completely out of the blue... having nothing to do with the question being asked. Is there more to this interview that we are not privy to? Not that it matters, because it still boils down to hearsay and speculation. Your argument is only valid if you have a quote directly from the woman. PS: Thanks for insulting my intelligence. |

| 13 weeks 3 days ago | I've been trying to hold off, |
I've been trying to hold off, but this thread is disturbing and below the usual standards of MGoBlog, where it's not unusual to delete a thread containing speculation of criminal activity. And yet, here we have a respected mod putting forth such speculation on a front page post. Yes, I read the interview. But the fact is that we don't know the relationship of these two individuals wearing the same overalls and eye stickers while sitting next to each other at a game. I agree that it is creepy at a minimum if they do not know each other. An alternate explanation? Headband Guy is in the circle of friends with Rapture Guy and Overall Girl (maybe even Overall Girl's BF), and Rapture Guy thought it would be a good joke on his buddy to say in the interview that none of them know who he is. Bottom Line #1: It's all speculation. Bottom Line #2: Accusations of sexual assault ruin lives. Bottom Line #3: There is no place in this blog for this crap.

| 14 weeks 1 day ago | The only thing that worries |
The only thing that worries me about Speight's lack of ranking visibility is it's impact on him as a recruiter. I think Morris doesn't get enough credit for helping recruit the 2013 class. Speight is in a similar position, but I kind of cringe when I imagine a potential recruit looking him up after getting a tweet from him and finding that he's a 3-star not even in the top 500 nationally (247), or not even rated (Rivals). Hopefully that will change soon. |

But our 2012 and 2013 OL recruiting classes have to look pretty daunting to a 2014 kid who wants to play as soon as possible. So it seems reasonable to see how the situation is shaping up at other programs showing him interest. |

| 19 weeks 4 days ago | Not sure about a miracle, but |
Not sure about a miracle, but it remains the only NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug, similar to a strong ibuprofen or Alleve) that comes in a form that can be given injection or IV... therefore it works quickly and is quite effective with minimal side effects (compared to narcotics, anesthetics, etc). It is used in the ER and hospital setting very frequently. |
| 19 weeks 4 days ago | Totally depends on the dose. |
Totally depends on the dose. Generally IM injections of this drug are every 6 hours, but that's at max dose... you could theoretically use a smaller dose and inject more frequently (although this ignores the pharmacokinetics of the drug, and may still be dangerous by exceeding toxic AUC serum levels, blah blah blah). It sounds like the doctor/school is in trouble for not explaining potential risks of a prescription drug. BUT if there's a burden of proof on their part that they have to show that this drug caused the heart attack, then that will be very difficult. While other drugs in this class (NSAID) have been correlated (not causily linked) to thrombotic events including heart attack in elderly patients with other health conditions, this particular drug has never been correlated with such a complication, and this kid was a healthy young adult. The chances that his heart attack was caused by this drug are slim to none in my MGoDoctor opinion. That will be $500. |

Agree. I get that Clowney's a great player and his tackle for loss/forced fumble/fumble recovery was a huge play, but he was pretty quiet the rest of the game with only 3 other tackles. Seems like the guy who scored 3 TDs and couldn't be stopped on offense (Sanders) should be the MVP. |

And where did you get that these players were "trashed?" There is nothing in the article nor the police report that suggests the players (if that's even who is being refered to in the report) were drinking. This is the kind of bullshit post that just makes me wish these kind of threads were locked. Horrible rape jokes aside, all kinds of assumptions and inferences get made based upon little fact and a lot of speculation... these assumptions and inferences get stated as fact... and everyone gets carried away. |

Given that SC WRs are short (5'7"-5'9") and fast, this could be a match-up move to a degree. And I say to a degree because even if the physical match-up seems an advantage, you have to worry about the experience match-up. |

| 23 weeks 1 day ago | As a resident MGoDoctor |
As a resident MGoDoctor (Michigan '01), I can't fathom what Cameron Hunt is describing. I don't recall "too much adrenalin" as a diagnosis. Heat stroke seems like the most reasonable explanation (common things being common), although it's an odd time of year for that... unless it was unseasonably hot in southern California this weekend. It brings up an interesting point... NFL players go through all kinds of physicals and evaluations before being signed by a team. It's interesting that there's not a similar process for college sports. Just to be clear, I'm not trying to be hard on the guy. Sounds like whatever happened was not clearly explained to him by his doctors. But it raises the concern that he might have a health issue that could affect his ability to play. It's probably nothing, but if this isn't a one time incident, it might raise some eyebrows amongst the teams recruiting him. |

I know he's officially visiting, but are there other reasons to think that things "look good" with Hunt? Has he made noise about serious interest in flipping to Michigan? |

That's the first time they've ever done that, and they wouldn't have done it if both Penn State and Ohio were not banned. I'm not saying he's not a solid coach... and certainly in the top half of Big Ten. But he will be replaced and Wisconsin will be fine. |

It's against my better judgement to continue this thread, but it's a slow day at work, so what the hell... 1. So it's better to get in a tizzy about the moderation of someone else's post rather than the moderation of your own? 2. The fact that you were talking about someone else's post, but that was not apparent because the moderation of that post must have changed as time went by only reinforces my point that it's not worth getting fired up about (feel free to use "fired up" in quotes in your next post, btw). 3. What about my straw? 4. I think we both agree that the current moderation system is silly/useless. 5. ?? 6. Profit!

| 25 weeks 4 hours ago | I completely agree. One of |
I completely agree. One of the most important factors for a recruit to consider is their position coach. Based upon our play this year, coaching on the offensive side of the ball has been less than impressive... from Borgess to Funk, etc. Of course, you could spin this both ways... one could see this as a need for more talented players, and that those more talented players will get early playing time. Others could see it as a concern that their talents won't be developed to the fullest. I can't help but wonder if Dawson looked at the poor O-line play this year as a factor for bailing. |

| 25 weeks 2 days ago | Not to blow your theory out |
Not to blow your theory out of the water, but I'm closer in age to Borgess, and I think he has the wrong mindset. If you listen to his pressors, there's a certain passivity there that is quite bothersome. He often uses the phrase "it isn't there" or "it wasn't there." This first struck me when he said it as an explanation as to why there were not more called runs for Denard against Alabama. Sure, the guy knows football far better than I do, but it almost implies that he's letting the defensive formation dictate his play calling... passively calling plays the defense is forcing you into instead of aggressively calling plays that highlight ur playmakers. It's all easier said than done, I know but the point about not going back to the play that got Denard the long run illustrates my point. That play should be run until it's proven not to work any more, and then run at least once more. It shouldn't be avoided because the defensive formation has changed and "it's not there." |

Gardner will trun out to be a better QB then Denard. Not as fast, but more athletic overall, strong and more accurate arm, and clearly a better field manager. Don't get me wrong... love Denard... but I don't think we've seen Gardner in his prime.

...or someone else who wants to actually look at the data. The assertion has been made here by defenders of the zero tolerance no visit policy that it actually leads to fewer decommitments. Wouldn't be interesting to look at the actual numbers? Comparing schools with zero tolerance policies, and those without... comparing number of decommitments, number of eventual transfers, and examining specifically what happens to those "commits" who do take other visits after commiting. I suspect the numbers will be pretty similar... if one policy were clearly better than another, than every major program would adopt it. Probably a nearly impossible analysis retrospectively, but maybe someone is willing to track this kind of data prospectively so we actually have some factual information to weigh in future years. This is going to come up every year. |
| 29 weeks 5 hours ago | Well said... and I would put |
Well said... and I would put forth that one step in the right direction would be to hire a QB coach. It's a position of weakness that is starving for development (Denard included), and we're at a time when Borgess is trying to handle being OC and QB coach, and apparently doing neither very well. Hiring a QB would take some of the load and some of the heat off Borgess, hopefully result in better prepared and better coached QBs, and most importantly, make me feel better. |

My point being that Magnus's point is only valid if Denard is equally important to both our kick return performance and our offensive performance, which is clearly not the case... so why risk the majority of our offensive game plan by putting him out there on special teams? It was particularly hard to watch them come out in the second half and continue to try to run it up the middle on a defense that has not allowed us to run up the middle for years. I about threw my beer through the TV in the 3rd quarter hoping it would hit Borgess. On the other hand... that may be preferable to Denard punt passes in a tight game like that... so maybe Borgess is brilliant. |
