I think the greater point is that any large university campus is going to have its share of hot women.  The only thing that may vary is the proportion of the female population that's hot from institution to institution.  But the relative proportion of attractive women is really only relevant to average Joe's in terms of increasing their chances of "making it" with someone out of their league.

Football players, on the other hand, would seem to have their "pick of the litter" due to their status on campus, and therefore, it is illogical that they would use the relative proportion of hot women on campus as a factor in college choice.

There is no doubt about Clowney's talent.  The problem I have with all of the attention that he is getting for that hit was that it really didn't involve any special talent.  After a missed block, he had a free hit on a RB half his size, and ran him over.  Visually spectacular?  Yes.  Game-changing?  Yes.  But an example of a play that epitomizes something special about his technique or knowlege of the game?  Nope.  There are probably 100 D-linemen in NCAA football that would have made the same play in the same circumstance.

I've been trying to hold off, but this thread is disturbing and below the usual standards of MGoBlog, where it's not unusual to delete a thread containing speculation of criminal activity.  And yet, here we have a respected mod putting forth such speculation on a front page post.

Yes, I read the interview.  But the fact is that we don't know the relationship of these two individuals wearing the same overalls and eye stickers while sitting next to each other at a game.  I agree that it is creepy at a minimum if they do not know each other.

An alternate explanation?  Headband Guy is in the circle of friends with Rapture Guy and Overall Girl (maybe even Overall Girl's BF), and Rapture Guy thought it would be a good joke on his buddy to say in the interview that none of them know who he is.

Not sure who it was "obvious" too.  Even most Ohio boards early on were conceding that Ohio's 2013 class might never catch up to Michigan's because of their limited scholarship numbers... which turned out to not be so limited.

They seem to be giving a lot of credit to our 2013 OL haul.  Odd, given that it's unlikely any of them will see the field in 2013... and if they do, I would think that would mean a lower ranking.

How about "the kids who have shown the most interest in Michigan early on" instead of "kids most likely to end of at Michigan."

It's going to be hard to live up to 5-star talent without a supporting cast.

What stands out to me is how poor the recruiting is at the bottom of the Big Ten... especially when you compare it to the bottom of the PAC-12 (or whatever the hell they're called now) and the SEC.  I haven't really followed recruiting beyond Michigan before, so I don't know if it's always been that bad for the bottom half of the conference, but it definitely makes one worry about ever catching up to the stature of the SEC.

We can only hope there's still a battle for Webb.

Had the same thought when I saw the "somewhere between DI and DII" assessment.  Last time I checked, Michigan, Alabama, LSU... you can't get much more DI than that.

While thinking about this, I took a peek at Auburn's recruiting class.  How is it that they already have 3 players that have signed LOI's??  I see that all three are JUCO types... are there different rules for kids transferring vs. kids coming out of high school?

Yes, and he may very well realize that.  All I'm saying is that given our more recent OL recruiting, he's less likely to see the field even as a RS sophomore than he might at other programs.

While I agree that "early playing time" can mean very different things depending on position (like OL vs. RB, for example), there is still such a thing as early playing time for OL.  consider that we will likely be playing a RS Freshman or two next year at OL... while not ideal for the team, still counts as early playing time for the kid.  But our 2012 and 2013 OL recruiting classes have to look pretty daunting to a 2014 kid who wants to play as soon as possible.  So it seems reasonable to see how the situation is shaping up at other programs showing him interest.

Completely agree... the use of the phrase "injectable painkillers," while not inaccurate, makes this drug, sound much more scary than it truly is... like we're talking about heroin or some kind of highly regulated performance enhancer.

Keep in mind that ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (Alleve), which are the same type of medicines, have the same warnings.  It would be interesting to see if there would be as much controversy if the team doctor had given him Advil before the game.

Totally depends on the dose.  Generally IM injections of this drug are every 6 hours, but that's at max dose... you could theoretically use a smaller dose and inject more frequently (although this ignores the pharmacokinetics of the drug, and may still be dangerous by exceeding toxic AUC serum levels, blah blah blah).

It sounds like the doctor/school is in trouble for not explaining potential risks of a prescription drug.  BUT if there's a burden of proof on their part that they have to show that this drug caused the heart attack, then that will be very difficult.  While other drugs in this class (NSAID) have been correlated (not causily linked) to thrombotic events including heart attack in elderly patients with other health conditions, this particular drug has never been correlated with such a complication, and this kid was a healthy young adult.  The chances that his heart attack was caused by this drug are slim to none in my MGoDoctor opinion.

Agree.  I get that Clowney's a great player and his tackle for loss/forced fumble/fumble recovery was a huge play, but he was pretty quiet the rest of the game with only 3 other tackles.  Seems like the guy who scored 3 TDs and couldn't be stopped on offense (Sanders) should be the MVP.

And where did you get that these players were "trashed?"  There is nothing in the article nor the police report that suggests the players (if that's even who is being refered to in the report) were drinking.

This is the kind of bullshit post that just makes me wish these kind of threads were locked.  Horrible rape jokes aside, all kinds of assumptions and inferences get made based upon little fact and a lot of speculation... these assumptions and inferences get stated as fact... and everyone gets carried away.

As a resident MGoDoctor (Michigan '01), I can't fathom what Cameron Hunt is describing.  I don't recall "too much adrenalin" as a diagnosis.  Heat stroke seems like the most reasonable explanation (common things being common), although it's an odd time of year for that... unless it was unseasonably hot in southern California this weekend. 

It brings up an interesting point... NFL players go through all kinds of physicals and evaluations before being signed by a team.  It's interesting that there's not a similar process for college sports.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to be hard on the guy.  Sounds like whatever happened was not clearly explained to him by his doctors.  But it raises the concern that he might have a health issue that could affect his ability to play.  It's probably nothing, but if this isn't a one time incident, it might raise some eyebrows amongst the teams recruiting him.

That's the first time they've ever done that, and they wouldn't have done it if both Penn State and Ohio were not banned.

I'm not saying he's not a solid coach... and certainly in the top half of Big Ten.  But he will be replaced and Wisconsin will be fine.

I suppose the bright side is this (other than another open slot)... our staff is so good at recognizing talent before other staffs and scouts, that there are bound to be a couple of decommits each year of kids who jumped at that early Michigan offer before anyone else noticed them.

Totally feel like Denard could have beat that contain guy to the outside on that second play, or at least gotten a few more yards to the outside.  Barnum -2, Robinson -1.

...or someone else who wants to actually look at the data.  The assertion has been made here by defenders of the zero tolerance no visit policy that it actually leads to fewer decommitments.  Wouldn't be interesting to look at the actual numbers?  Comparing schools with zero tolerance policies, and those without... comparing number of decommitments, number of eventual transfers, and examining specifically what happens to those "commits" who do take other visits after commiting.

I suspect the numbers will be pretty similar... if one policy were clearly better than another, than every major program would adopt it. 

Probably a nearly impossible analysis retrospectively, but maybe someone is willing to track this kind of data prospectively so we actually have some factual information to weigh in future years.  This is going to come up every year.

Kovacs, duh.  Roh is having a nice year and seems to have the least proven talent coming in behind him.  Demens has put it together, but our LB core seems deep.  Floyd... I've always been pretty meh on Floyd... he's solid and has his moments, but I have never seen him as difficult to replace.

Last time I checked, DR was pretty crucial to our offensive game plan, but not our kick return game.

But being out there for a kick return is more dangerous than not being out there for a kick return... pretty sure that was the point.

It was particularly hard to watch them come out in the second half and continue to try to run it up the middle on a defense that has not allowed us to run up the middle for years.  I about threw my beer through the TV in the 3rd quarter hoping it would hit Borgess.

On the other hand... that may be preferable to Denard punt passes in a tight game like that... so maybe Borgess is brilliant.
