but the whole atmosphere of higher education in general.  What was the cost of college 20 years ago compared to what it is now?  What did the average BA grad make upon graduation and what are they making now?  I have a feeling that college grads 20 years ago made as much or more than they do today upon entering the workforce.  However, I would imagine that the cost of education has gone WAY up in that same 20 years, despite the average income staying the same (or maybe even decreasing).  

I guess my actual point is that higher education is a racket.  One must think of college as a literal investment and be completely job/career focused the entire time.  I didn't.  I went to college because it was the thing to do.  I admittedly loved college, but wish I knew then what I know now.  My mistake.

It seems like Rahm Emmanuel is the mayor of this board and it's demanded that everyone be open-minded unless they have a different opinion than the machine.  In that case, they are intolerant and are unwelcome because we only accept people who respect other people's opinions (unless they are different than our own).   We won't toerate intolerance here.

Our post play/strategy/talent seems to have a negative affect on rebounding.  I wish we were less of a finesse team and more of an inside power team.  When the shots aren't falling (like last night for Burke), the inside post is often times what's needed to win.

Are thrilled to be leaving the Big East to join the B1G?  

It was never a matter of the B1G not having bad programs.  The difference is that Mich has been playing Minn since 1892, not 2014.  There is no history, nor rivalry, nor much appeal like there would be when Nebraska joined.  Rutgers is a non-conference cupcake to start the season.    

and at this point, I admit I'm just holding on to the past even though it was taken from us, Michigan doesn't need Rutgers to recruit the NY area.  It doesn't need Maryland to recruit the VA/DC area.  What this means is that we're playing schools that no one wants instead of playing the schools where my family and friends went to college.   This makes it more difficult to travel to games and now I can't talk as much smack.

Beilein needs to start recruiting a couple more bigs and couple less guards.  You need to have a strong inside.  Shooting teams can win games, but you need post players when the shots won't drop.  Don't get me started on rebounding.

Why does everyone want Michigan in the same division as Ohio?  I'd rather give my team a better chance of winning their division and competing for the conference at a neutral site than making it more difficult.  How fair is it to take out the two best programs (Michigan and Ohio) and give the other side a pillow fight?  Will the new names be Leaders and Cupcakes?

Or at least the first season.  One of my favorite shows is "Ancient Aliens" on the History Channel?  Is it ridiculous?  Yes.  Is it awesome?  Yes.  

Oddly enough, I used to know someone in marketing and the "toothless alligator hunter" show was that networks most highly rated show.  Keep in mind that a big part of the History Channel's targeted audience is white men over 50.

The real meat on that ranking all lies on the second half of the season.  All of the teams we haven't played yet.  So far, (in keeping with your food analogy)  it has only been pigs in a blanket and stufffed mushrooms as we work or way to the T-bone and roast beef.

The current players also said they were in favor of no more drug testing as well as practice being optional.  We should respect the wishes of young kids since they are current players.

Doesn't mean he's making it stronger or better.  While I could probably sell my kidney and in the short run make money that would pay my rent and buy me food, that would be a REALLY bad idea.  There is a lot more to the University of Michigan than making money.  

As it should be handled as a business as opposed to college atheltics which should be handled with more of the education and personal growth of the students in mind.  (i.e. no more alternative jerseys to make a few extra bucks!!!!!!!!)

We were not dressed appropriately and it was freezing (and kind of rainy?).  I was drunk before the game and the weather was sunny and it was a beautiful day.  Went to the game and the temp dropped, I was freezing, had to pee really bad and Mich was getting handled.  We left the game in the 4th quarter and caught the end at a warm home with cold beer and no line for the bathroom.  

Did I feel bad that I wasn't personally at hand to witness history?  Yes.  

Was I mad that I was watching the game in total comfort with much better TV views, cold beer and an empty bladder?  Not even a little bit.

If only Wolverine In A Bag was here to enjoy this...

Michigan State's mascot was based off of the cast from In The Heat Of The Night, which took place in the fictionalized town of Sparta, MS.  The show ran on NBC from 1988 to 1992.  Four years is about how long Dantonio's run is going to last as well.  With MSU returning to the middle of the pack in the B1G , things are finally returning to normal around here.

Not only do normal people NOT lose their jobs over  fist time DUI offenses where no person was injured nor property destroyed, but what you seem to be implying is that the defendant should not only be punished legally through many fines, lawyer and court fees, the loss of driving privelages, probation, higher insurances rates, public shame, etc... but that the person's employer should also suspend them from work for a pay period(two weeks) without pay?  Is that fair?

I'm not saying he should play or not, but the kid's crime had nothing to do with football or school yet everyone insists that he should be punished there.  What if Hoke took away his driving privelages for the year and won't allow him to drink or even go out on the weekends till next summer?  Would that be enough?  Should he be forced to drop his semester in school too?  Why not?  Sports are supposed to build character and discipline.  Doesn't Fitz need that now more than ever?

On the other hand, what if Hoke suspended him for the month of September, but didn't do anything else.  What if Fitz couldn't play football but could drink and party?  What that be okay? 

Next time I'll make sure to just regurgitate what everone else says and not have any of my own opinions. 

Definetely not a job.  I do not work in finance and transfered with my company from Chicago.  After living there for five years, I LOVE Chicago and could spend my whole life there.  I've been here over a year now and don't want to spend one more day in NYC.  I miss Chicago. (sigh)

That's my point exactly.  You're equating Paterno with Sandusky because that's what everyone is saying, not because Paterno was convicted of 48 counts.  

Don't confuse what I'm saying as the only point I have is that Paterno has/had a right to defend himself from the accusations.  He was never able to defend himself and everyone is condemning him as if HE WAS Sandusky.  (Which he may or may not be, but that's besides the point...)  My only point is that nowadays, people are guilty once they are accused...

Probably around 2001 I was at a party in Detroit.  A lot of people were there and I ended up talking to a former Spartan wide reciever.  We talked for a while and he told me that when he was playing there (under Saban), he'd find an envelope inside his locker every week with a few hundred dollars enclosed.  "and I was only third string, imagine what the starters got", he said.

What level do you think we're at now?  Do you think Thursday night games and a mascot are going to take us "to the next level"?  Get real.  Great programs don't need any of this crap.  Oregon needed something to draw in recruits because they had no history (as we talked about in a recent thread comparing them to USC).  Michigan has history.  A TON of history.

I am very happy that Brandon hired Hoke.  But as much as I hated RR, I think that how DB handled that situation was very public and wrong.  I hate the new uniforms every week.  I hate the piped in music in the Big House.  I hate having a game on Thursday?  I hate the 3 million dollar billboard.  I hate the cheap and classless gimmicks.  We're Michigan fergodsakes, not UCF.   I feel like we're a little kid who tried to cut his own hair and now the tradional schools (ND, USC, Texas, Alabama, etc...) are staring at us because we look ridiculous.  A Thursday night game...

It was a good attempt at a South Park reference.  After all these years, that stupid reference pops into my head (usually for no real reason) and I can't help but chuckle to myself.

I doubt we'd have too much trouble finding a suitable replacement team.  Why not use the new agreement with the Pac12 to our advantage and make a permanent deal with USC, Oregon, Stanford...  I think Boise St. would be pretty exciting.  Clemson, Virginina Tech, Miami...   Michigan is an elite program and it seems to me that strength of schedule is starting to carry more weight these days.

Michigan's brand HAS been tarnished the last several years, but if you think wearing a gimmick uniform will gain the respect of others in the football community, then I feel you don't understand what the Michigan brand is(don't mean to sound like a condescending A-hole).  Only winning on the field, good academics and our student-athletes staying out of trouble will restore our reputation.   To me, Michigan was always about: Winged helmets, no advertising in the stadium, no piped in "arena" music, and no gimmicks.  We had tradition and the respect of everyone.  By 2016, Brandon will have made "The Noid" our official mascot and going to the Big House will be like going to a Piston's game.  Even though I love the Pistons, that makes me sad...
