|38 weeks 1 day ago||I live in Maine.||
I like Michigan. Outside of 10 people in this state, NO ONE watches college football.
|38 weeks 4 days ago||And pinatas.||
So they can have a plethora of pinatas.
|48 weeks 1 day ago||Some penicillin will take care of that.||
Or so I've heard...
|1 year 2 weeks ago||I'm taking a motorcycle class that entire weekend.||
I booked the class a while back and it didn't even dawn on me to check the football schedule.
At least I have a DVR.
|1 year 3 weeks ago||I live in Maine and would say that the best part of winter||
here is the absence of Masshole tourists. Can't stand them.
That aside, fall here is also awesome. However, there is no one around here to talk college football with. That (and high taxes & Massholes) is the worst part of living in New England.
|1 year 3 weeks ago||I love Mike Hart and was a student during his time at||
Michigan. He was the best running back in his decade.
That being said, Smith's single run was incredible and inspiring at the same time. I would imagine it raised the bar for his teammates. Awesome.
|1 year 15 weeks ago||Season 1 was one of the best things I've ever seen.||
Season 2 is not very good. I almost turned it off Sunday to catch up on Game of Thrones.
|1 year 17 weeks ago||I have a beard because beards are awesome, but||
I do need a razor to trim around the beard and the neck. I found that the Mach 3 I was using didn't offer much precision with their several blades and giant plastic casing, so last fall I switched to a straight razor.
The straight razor shave is a much more satisfying experience. I originally bought a cheap starter razor to see if I would like it (which works great) with replaceable blades and found that the actual blades are only about $.06 a piece. A blade will last me several shaves which means I'm paying $6 for about 3 years of shaving.
I wholeheartedly recommend you guys give it a shot, if for nothing else, the novelty is worth it.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||That is the exact setup I use -||
I have the JDS O2 + ODAC and:
Sennheiser HD 600
Sennheiser HD 650
Shure SE 425 earbuds
Sennheiser HD 280 Pro (my first step into audiophile land).
I'm a big fan of Sennheiser. Someday I'll make enough money to buy the HD800's. I love my HD600's and think they're much better than the HD650's. Shure makes great headphones as well as Grado.
Although I don't own them, I'd recommend the HD380 Pro's for anyone looking for a solid pair of closed back, passive noise canceling headphones. If I were to buy another pair, that's what I get.
If you have $500 to spend on ear buds, check out Shure SE 535's.

Apparantly she thought he was doing a great job. I am very glad she is not handling this situation now because my gut tells me she would not be so thorough or possibly not do what's int he best interest of the school. Cripes, Brandon makes triple what the old AD makes with the potential to make even more.

|1 year 51 weeks ago||"Under Armour could cost us some speed..."||
So could the coaching.
|1 year 52 weeks ago||I can appreciate that you can laugh at yourself.||
Laughing at myself is how I get through each day.
Regarding the second point: I would have done the same thing as WD did. Perhaps not post the actual email, but I would have written about it somewhere on this blog. I would imagine that if people asked me to post the email, I would find most likely do it and not think anything of it. I would thus be verifying my story. If people demanded I confirm its authenticity, I would have absolutely no idea of even where to begin and would think the person demanding it is an asshole. I would then disappear from the blog for a while. Basically, I would do exactly what WD did.
There is apparantly no way to verify the emails because it still hasn't been done. There is no way in hell I would have the resources to do. That would be a shame because it seems to be kind of a big story, or at least worth mentioning on ESPN.
|1 year 52 weeks ago||Is it just me or do you sound like an idiot?||
If my family member called me up and said, "hey, take a look at what Dave Brandon responded to my email! What an asshole!", would you demand to see documentation of authenticity?
If I was a teenager, I wouldn't. I'd probably start thinking to myself, "Gee, I sure bet this would add fuel to the Dave Brandon hating fire on MGoBlog. I bet there would be people interested in seeing what an unprofessional, condescending, and ridiculous prick he is, even while operating as a representative of the University". I would probably be too excited to share the news with my like minded friends than worried about any sort of legal ramifications it could entail.
Cripes, I'm a grown man and still would never have thought the backlash WD recieved was even possible. What a bunch of anonymous, internet assholes tough guys.
|1 year 52 weeks ago||No crap!||

|1 year 52 weeks ago||You're in luck then -||
Chances are we will not win with Jim Tressel. If our current trend continues, we will not win at all. At least you can feel good about it.
|1 year 52 weeks ago||Per Wiki:||
"Jim Tressel – The former head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Tressel was forced to resign three months before the start of the 2011 season for lying to the NCAA about student athletes receiving tattoos and cash for signed memorabilia. According to the NCAA, he had four chances to tell the truth and failed to do so. For this, he was given a five-year show-cause penalty (until December 19, 2016). If he gets another head coaching job before then, he will have to sit out the first five games of the first regular season of his return, as well as any postseason games (including conference championship games and bowl games). "
|1 year 52 weeks ago||Yes, he is.||
He just misses some games and a bowl. Might as well hire him now because we're already missing those games as well as the bowl, already.
|1 year 52 weeks ago||We could hire Tressel now.||
He misses the rest of the season. We are obviously not going to a bowl game, so that issue resolves itself. All in all, if we hire Tressel today, he would be ready to coach in the spring. Problem solved.
|1 year 52 weeks ago||Tressel, Harbaugh, Chris Peterson, Stoops, Mullen||
In that order.
|2 years 7 hours ago||While I understand what you're saying...||
You can't blame these kids for not wanting their future ruined. Think about our current players for a second. If they had a great coach who really develops talent, how many of them would be great players with a possible NFL future? How many are there now? Look at how well Green has done so far. What about Morris?
As much as I love Michigan, there is NO WAY I would play under the current regime, especially if I had interest from big time programs. It's a business decision.
|2 years 1 day ago||Perhaps there is a coach out there...||
that wants to get even with his former employer. Perhaps this coach is very competitive and as he is currently following a different career, couldn't turn down the chance to come back and see if he still has it. Perhaps this guy has big time experience and has had great sucess. Perhaps he knows that he recruits the B1G footprint well and would have everything he needs to make a historic and incredible comeback through the University of Michigan.
Perhaps this is a dream, but it also answers your question. Revenge and a chance at glory with a well stocked cupboard. The right coach could step in and hit the ground running on his way to historic greatness.
|2 years 1 week ago||The show cause is only for the first 5 games, right?||
And no bowl game?
Hire him now and we wouldn't even feel the penalty.
|2 years 1 week ago||Tressel would be the perfect hire.||
He's a great football coach. He's a big name. His hiring would generate SO much buzz around our program and a LOT of kids would be confident of a Michigan resurgence and want to be part of that.
Tressel and Jim Harbaugh are the only real home runs out there.
For all of the confusion and fear it would cause the Buckeye nation, my first preference would be Tressel. His hire would be GLORIOUS.
|2 years 1 week ago||At least we're consistent.||

I'm currently watching The Wire (episode 11 of season 2) and have watched both seasons of Twin Peaks (plus the movie). The Wire is a great show but so was Twin Peaks (season one, specifically). Both shows are good but very different kind of shows. The Wire is pound for pound the better show, but Twin Peaks shines in its own way. I'm excited to see it back on TV. I hope they keep the original cast.
If you're looking for great telivision, I think True Detective is quite possible the best TV series I have ever seen. It's only about 10 episodes but I couldn't recommend it more.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Don't forget his special teams!!!||
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Weren't the defense and special teams getting worse||
every year? People talk about RR like he is a god, but my memory reminds me that I couldn't wait for him to leave. He couldn't compete against top 10 teams at Michigan and his teams regressed every year except on offense, which couldn't score against good teams anyway.
God bless him, I was so glad he was fired and am stil glad he is not our coach. I certainly wish him success in Arizona, but if I'm going to waste time hoping for a coach, it will be Harbaugh or Tressel.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||At least you don't need insurance to benefit from it.||
Perhaps I'm alone on this, but I NEED it. There are only so many articles written about Hoke and Brandon being fired. I need my fix. I'd rather keep refreshing this site every 5 minutes than ESPN or Mlive.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Without hesitation,||
I would absolutely hire Mr. T as our next head coach.
I bet no one would say a thing if he wanted to sing a Josh Grobin song.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||That's easy.||
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Not bad.||
I didn't know he could play.
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Uhh... That's frowned upon?||
Is that just in Canada?
|2 years 3 weeks ago||Signed.||
|2 years 4 weeks ago||I keep thinking about #2.||
If you have a leg injury, it would be easy to buckle when you first put some weight on it. That is why he needed help getting his balance and to adjust the way he was walking.
It seems like everyone here wants to Shane to have a concussion for the sake of firing Hoke, but it could just as easily be his leg only. I absolutely want Hoke to be fired but I don't want him to be fired for being a piece of crap if he is not one. Hoke is terrible coach but I want to give hime the benefit of the doubt and say that he is not a terrible person. I hope this situation resolves itself positively for Hoke. And then he is fired for his crappy coaching record.
|2 years 4 weeks ago||Speaking of head injury...||
|2 years 5 weeks ago||If anything, I think Mattison should be the interim||
head coach. He's got a ton of coaching experience, been around a lot of programs, and so far, the defense is the only thing working on this team anyway. He's also a great recruiter. Unless we have a home run hire, I wouldn't mind seeing Mattison take the reins while we figure things out.
|2 years 5 weeks ago||Search is over:||
|2 years 5 weeks ago||Does that even matter?||
He was hired to do a job and failed. If he wants to work as a counselor that's fine, but as the face of the entire university making millions of dollars? Not so fine.
I had to go to a dinner party tonight with the Mrs. and just watched the game. I'm drunk and angry but more than anything I'm tired. Tired of my school being a joke. Watching the ND game finally broke my spirit but watching tonight made me throw up. Fire Hoke. Hire Tressel.
|2 years 5 weeks ago||Is that a typo or are we now referring to Dave Brandon as||
Because that is awesome.
|2 years 5 weeks ago||We DON'T know where we are||
and it doesn't seem like we know where we are going (except towards irrelevancy). That is the only thing that is clear to me. After the ND game, my spirit was finally broken. I don't understand how people can be so optimistic still.

big time programs? Did he go into Georgia and manhandle the Dogs at home (who later won their division), or VT, Oregon, Oklahoma? I don't think he did.
|2 years 7 weeks ago||I'm not proud of it but I would hire Tressel.||
Everyone needs a second chance. And B1G championships!!!
I know it would NEVER happen, but can you imagine the reactions to that hire?
Ohio State scheduled a home/home with Notre Dame? Well, we just hired Jim Tressel! Suck it, Ohio!
Imagine the ratings on The Game with Tressel vs. Meyer. My head is about to explode.

|2 years 7 weeks ago||I want Chris Petersen to come to Michigan.||
I've wanted him for years. I loved Bosie St.
What good is all the money Brandon has made for the program if he can't spend it?
|2 years 8 weeks ago||Blue Barron, Which one are you?||
|2 years 8 weeks ago||I can understand that,||
but look at our record vs. any decent team 2008.
Ohio State 1 - 5
Michigan St. 1 - 5
Penn St 0 - 4
Iowa 1 - 4
SEC 0 - 2 (Florida being from 2007 season)
At least we had the Irish (6-2 since 2006). My point being that it wasn't so much that OSU was great, it's that we just haven't been very good.
I sure hope this year is the year it finally turns around.
|2 years 8 weeks ago||This topic has already been beaten to death, but...||
When our conference wins against other major conferences, it makes us look better. That could easily be the difference between going to a playoff game and not.
Also, and I'd have to think about this for a while, I might hate the SEC as much/more than I hate Ohio State. At least in the last 8 years.

Now if we can only get a homerun hire for our new Oline coach!
|2 years 41 weeks ago||If you like RPG's than you will love Skyrim.||
I've spent thousands of hours playing Morrowind as it would crash often and eventually REALLY crashed leaving all my saved files not accessible. I then played Oblivion for around another thousand hours. The game play and overall experience in Oblivion was much better than Morrowind.
I've probably put in close to 300 hours into Skyrim. At this point, my character is pretty juiced and is at level 58. However, I'm not really playing to "beat" the game or even advance the story at all. I know what I have to do and could easily do it, but instead just roam the countryside looking at the beautiful scenery and enjoying the peaceful music. I play the game to escape from my own life for a few hours here and there. I really enjoy it. I will finish the main quest soon enough but there is no hurry. The beauty of this series is that you can enjoy your journey and not just the accomplishment of "winning". There are so many things you can do to improve your character and thousands of random tasks and quests to go on. It will take more than a few days to really get into it. I wasn't a fan of Morrowind at first but was too bored at the time not to play it. As time went on, it became one of my favorite games of all time.
For anyone complaining about Skyrim, know that this series is the industry standard and won Game of the Year. While some people may like other games more, most people interested in this genre do not. Give it time and realize that you haven't even scratched the surface yet.
I was at about level 20 and I thought I had a really good handle of the game. I went home for Thanksgiving and found that my brother was on level 72 and I really didn't know what I was doing. There is a lot in the details.
|2 years 41 weeks ago||Exactly.||
While I'm not condoning the use of ecstasy, I'm willing to bet that there has been considerably more tragedy caused by alcohol (by a lot) than by ecstacy, yet according to Center Ice, the possesion of ecstacy is a "5th degree felony" and alcohol is completely legal. Hence my calling it "arbitrary control".
Cripes, 5th degree felony? How many degrees of felonies are there?
|2 years 41 weeks ago||To be honest,...||
How can you be a Michigan fan and concede the season before it has begun?
To be honest, it's been pretty easy to do so since 2009.
|2 years 41 weeks ago||No, I'm not. I didn't even break a sweat.||
My point is illustrated by your varying levels of offense. I don't condone the use of hard drugs and I've never used ecstacy, I'm just amused by the arbitrary punishment doled out to people by the "powers that be" often times for the sake of appearances and not fairness.
While I conceed the need for order, it blows my mind the punishment people recieved under the banner of "War On Drugs" for offenses related to marijuana. Can you imagine having a weed growing on your yard and out of curiosity, smoking said weed to see what the fuss was all about? Can you imagaine going to prison for doing that? It's happened in the past.
Taking out of the equation any talk about legalizing drugs or that they are in any way beneficial, I find it ridiculous that athletes (Ricky Williams) are penalized by organizations for the use of a non-performance enhancing drug. Smoking weed has nothing to do with the game, and I don't see how any league should have the authority over that. You could argue that the team itself (or whomever owns the actual players contract) should have the right to punish a player if the owner can prove that the players performance is negatively affected by the substance (and I woudln't disagree with that right), bu that's a seperate discussion entirely.
Ultimately, my point is that we have far too many laws that are put in place solely for the sake of having a law. These laws are often based on feelings and not objective research or evidence. What I'm saying has nothing to do with drinking or taking drugs. It's about authority heads trying to assert control over anything they can, while not spending the time to really evaluate what's actually happening or the fairness and/or rightness of their punishment. Hence the big disparity in punishment. Remember when Denard Robinson had his neck vilently twisted while helplessly under a pile during the MSU game? What do you think deserves more punishment: The malicious intent to physically hurt someone (potentially permanantly) or some kid ignorantly taking a potentially harmful recreational drug while at a party? The B1G originally thought the kid at a party should be suspended for an entire year but the asshole maliciously trying to hurt defensless players didn't deserve any sort of punishment until he actually threw a punch in that same game and then only gave him a one game suspension.
To the MGOSpelling Nazis on the board, I apologize beforehand for any misspelled words and/or improper grammer. Also, you can suck it.
|2 years 41 weeks ago||Absolutely!||
Using that logic, I think all players under the age of 21 should be suspended for a year if they are caught using alcohol. Maybe even two years. Maybe they should just be kicked out of school. After all, it's an arbitrarily illegal substance for everyone under 21 and each student knows that and should be subjected to an equally arbitrary punishment.
All hail the B1G!!! All hail arbitrary means of control!!!
|2 years 41 weeks ago||Unless you like defense.||
I wonder how MSU would have done against either FSU or Auburn.
|2 years 41 weeks ago||Why is she carrying three footballs?||
I'd offer to carry two of them for her.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||Go B1G!||
|2 years 42 weeks ago||There was plenty of talk regarding||
Ohio being jumped by Baylor and/or a 1 loss Alabama team. To root against one's conference is just dumb. Everyone hoping the B1G loses every game outside of Michigan sounds so ignorant and Sparty-like.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||Whatever you're planning,||
My anus will have NO part in it.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||Don't you have some preparations to attend to?||
Don't you have some preparations to attend to?
|2 years 42 weeks ago||I wouldn't say "wildly inaccurate".||
While I would certainly concede that the success of another program carries importance in competitive recruiting, I wouldn't necessarily call it the biggest thing. Look at how uncompetitive we've been with Ohio since 2006, and yet we're able to recruit with them. We've been uncompetitive with MSU since RR and have had more success in recruiting than them. Clearly recruiting is less of a factor than some people think it is.
Don't get me wrong, I see what you are saying, but think about how much better Texas A&M is regarded now that they play in a more respected conference. I wish people would talk about the B1G like they talk about the SEC. Just because our team sucks doesn't mean I want our conference to suck. The quickest way to gain more respect is to win in a conference people respect. Otherwise, someday we could be like Ohio and go undefeated in the B1G and still have to worry about being passed by a 1 loss SEC team to go to the MNC. How the mighty have fallen.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||It's obviously good for the Big Ten Conference,||
and ultimately good for the teams in the B1G. Or do you think that a B1G team winning the Rose Bowl is bad for the B1G?
I just think your thinking is very shortsighted. The only thing that will help Michigan's recruiting is Michigan winning. Not their rivals losing.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||It not MSU winning that is doing that.||
It's Michigan's losing that is affecting their recruiting.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||If our top tier teams beat the top tier teams they play,||
and start to do this consistently, if/when our team begins to win our conference, the talking heads won't say that were not deserving of a high ranking because they know that the teams we had to beat on the way to the top are competitive with the best. BCS games are more important than the Copper Bowl.
Also, it sounds like you think that if Stanford had won the Rose Bowl, then MSU didn't beat our ass during the season?
If State beat everyone in the conference but looked really bad in their bowl game, it would make the teams they beat look worse. If they handled their bowl game, the loss they gave teams doesn't look so bad.
It's like everyone excusing our loss to Alabama last year. I'd rather lose to Alabama than Toledo. But it seems that to you, there is no difference in losing to an undefeated national champion and a 5 loss MAC team.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||You received 31 MGoPoints on your first day?||
I'm sure you weren't kicked off the board for being a huge douche and are now using a different avatar.
I just listened to Musburger say and I quote, "This is a huge, huge win for the Big Ten Conference". He's absolutely correct. The headlines earlier were that the B1G sucked because only Nebraska won their game. If the conference wins both BCS games, that will look much better for us next year when it comes to playoffs and rankings. I have written enough about how idiotic to root against your conference and hope the B1G looses any of their bowl games. Just remember this next season when the talking heads say that the top four teams in the country should all be chosen from the SEC.
Also, I just watched Season 3 of Downton Abbey and am appalled at how poorly you managed your estate. Not only were you incompetent, but you were opposed to any changes Matthew suggested to modernize the farms and wouildn't even think about operating for a profit. It seems like Lord Grantham is running the coaching staff at Michigan.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||I also wonder this.||
Obviously, Penn St. could have lost more games, but it seems like any competent head coach worth millions of dollars a year, could come in and have a similar record. He didn't win a MNC and was never competing for conference title. People talk about him like he was Ghandi or something. I don't get it. He had a 10-6 conference record. Brady Hoke has a similar conference record at 15-9 and people are talking about him being fired for his incompetence.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||Where are the Grammar Police?||
When you actually need them?
|2 years 42 weeks ago||Like the SEC does?||
If the B1G was a dominant conference and a conference team beat a non conference opponent in a bowl game? I probably would. I don't live in the midwest and am VERY happy to watch the B1G beat other major conference teams.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||The worse the conference looks,||
The worse each school in that conference looks. With national perception a factor in bowl games placement and rankings, only a moron would root against their own conference.

|2 years 46 weeks ago||Clemson is very overrated this year.||
If I was a betting man, I'd pick Ohio to thump Clemson. I'd also pick State to control Stanford.
I also think FSU is also going to lose in the NC. As bad as it sounds, 40% of me was hoping Ohio would have played them in the NC. Whoever FSU plays will win. Another year of the SEC winning the NC makes me nauseous.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||Minus the "sorta".||
|2 years 46 weeks ago||No doubt!||
How can the idiots on this board not see that? I hope State and Ohio lose every conference game, and hope EVERY B1G team wins EVERY non-conference game EVERY time.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||I LOVE Boise St.||
I have nothing but respect for Peterson and his program. I watched them beat OK St., Oregon, push Georgia aroung in their own house, and man handle VT. Those are things that for some mysterious reason, Michigan woudn't have done in the last decade.
I don't see how anyone could not respect what they've done.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||No doubt.||
I've always been a big fan of Peterson and have secretly wished he'd come to Michigan for several years now. I'm also sad to see him leave Boise St. though. I loved what he did with that program and he seems like he is a man of character. It was refreshing to see someone with that kind of success, buck the trend of greed and cut-throat ambition in college football.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||The quick success of Missouri and A&M in the SEC||
is the proof I point to when discussing how overrated that conference has to be. I posted somethings to this effect, yesterday. Look at their records in the last few years in the Big 12 and look how quickly they become top SEC teams. A&M even beat Alabama last year.
I don't understand how this topic NEVER seems to be mentioned on ESPN.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||While I see your point,||
And you are correct in saying that only a few teams from the SEC have been great. However, one of the fair-to-middlin teams beat Bama last year. Alabama can be beaten. Everyone can be beaten.
Even if the same SEC team won the MNC every year, the talking heads and national perception, would still say that the SEC is the almighty conference and nothing else compares. According to the media, Florida St. is unstoppable. Alabama is the greatest. Auburn is in the SEC and therefore more deserving of Ohio because the B1G sucks. Blah, blah, blah...
Would you rather the SEC win the NC for the next 20 years just so Ohio doesn't win it? When will enough be enough? Sooner or later people are going to quit looking for excuses for the B1G and hope their conference starts winning. Why not start now?
If you are looking for somthing to help change your mind, go hang out with an SEC fan for a football season. After that, you'll always cheer for the B1G in bowl games.
Also, didn't it really get your blood boiling when Alabama didn't win their conference but was still able to go to the NC game because the talking heads said they were the best team? Remember 2006 in the B1G? That's the national perception I'm talking about. That's what needs to change.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||Amen, Brother!||
Tell it like it is!
|2 years 46 weeks ago||Exactly.||
It blows my mind all of the people on this board rooting against their own conference. While each team is measured by the conference they play in, these idiot posters are hoping our teams lose on the national stage to further perpetuate what a crappy conference the B1G is. The ACC is more highly regarded than the B1G these days. What a joke! To hope whatever team represents us in the MNC and Rose Bowl get embarrassed is idiotic, trashy, and reeks of insecurity.
The only way for our team to become relevant again is for us to beat the teams that beat everyone else. If our top two teams won big in bowl play, think about what that would mean for our conference and how much better we would look as a team.
In league play, I want Ohio and MSU to loose ALL of their games, but I always root for the B1G in EVERY OOC game. (Except, I'll admit, when MSU played Boise St. in Detroit a few years ago)
Maybe the posters on this board have never been outside the Midwest and don't realize everyone in the country thinks our conference is a joke. I'm suprised I haven't heard talk about a three loss SEC going to the MNC over an undefeated B1G team.
|2 years 46 weeks ago||It seems like I'm in the minority, but...||
I always root for my conference. If my conference looks good, my team looks better. I want a B1G team to win the next national championship, even if it can't be my team.
I can't stand the fact that the SEC has won the so many national championships in row. I can't stand knowing that Missouri and Texas A&M were middle tier teams in the Big 12 but by virtue of them being in the SEC, the "experts" are saying they are powerhouses. Cripes, Missouri lost to Navy just a few years ago. A&M was 7-6 in their last year in the Big 12 and the next year 11-2 in the SEC. These are largely the same teams. I guess the Big 12 must have been better than the SEC, right? No one seems to mention this very often.
People were talking about a 1 loss SEC team is more deserving than an undefeated B1G team. This is outrageous! So few people on this board seem to question this at all. Is Alabama a good team? Absolutely! Could they go undefeated in the B1G? Absolutely! Could a random B1G team beat them on a last-minute fluke play? Absolutely. I'm tired of my team being crappy. I'm tired of our conference being crappy. However, I'm not going to wish failure on my conference because my team sucks.
Ohio is the best team in our conference. That's where they should be. Michigan is supposed to be the other great team in our conference. They are not. That's not Ohio's fault. That's our fault. Someone once posted on here that we let down our rival, Ohio; that we are not living up to our obligation to them in this rivalry. The poster was immediately chastised, but I wholeheartedly agree with them. I absolutely HATE Ohio fans. They are the worst. However, their team wins. They won with Tressel. They're undefeated with Meyer. It's not Ohio's fault that we suck. It's Michigan's fault. It's Michigan's fault we lost to App. St. It's Michigan's fault we were owned by USC. It's Michigan's fault we can't win a Rose Bowl. It's Michigan's fault we've only won two bowl games in the last decade. It's Michigan's fault RR was hired. It's Michigan's fault we lose every time we play a good team.
The B1G is a great conference with a great history. It represents the Midwest and how many of us were raised. The B1G is also not as bad as everyone is saying. The B1G is all we have right now. If we can't bring glory to our conference, we need to cheer on those who can. It's not about a single team anymore. These days, the national appeal of a conference is almost as important as a team's record. I want Ohio and State to represent the B1G at the highest level and both smash their opponents. I hope every team in the B1G wins big. I hope one day soon recruits will want to play in the B1G because it’s the best football conference in the land.
Go Blue! Go B1G!
|2 years 46 weeks ago||Moral victories?||
I can't remember the last time we even had one of those.
|2 years 49 weeks ago||I'm a huge fan DG.||
I think he is a great QB in a less than ideal situation. He is mature, handled all of the bad as well as a real leader can, and is a great frontman for the Team.
|2 years 49 weeks ago||You liked who?||
|2 years 49 weeks ago||I thought your post was funny.||
|2 years 49 weeks ago||Thanks for your insight, Space Coyote!||
Thanks for your insight, Space Coyote!
I'm no coach but am more troubled by these issues knowing that Hoke and Mattison are D-Line coaches themselves. I'd have guessed that with all of their experience, they'd have noticed this right away and nipped it in the bud. I now understand why they were so excited about their defense in pre-season practice.
|2 years 49 weeks ago||Also Space Coyote, what do you think is the best way to fix||
The O-line problems that you're seeing? If the coaching is so bad (and it seems it), how can the other coaches not notice it and fix it themselves? Is this common?
|2 years 49 weeks ago||Amen!||
I root against Ohio in every conference game. However, I always root for the B1G in non-conference games (Except MSU when they played Boise St.).
|2 years 49 weeks ago||While that seems to be an unpopular opinion around here,||
I wholeheartedly share it. I absolutely want a B1G team to win the next NC, even if it's Ohio. The best way for the national perception of the Big Ten to change is for its teams to start winning big games. The more OSU wins, the better off the entire conference is. I'm not sure if Shitsburg St. is eliiglble due to the sanctions, though.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||Maybe GERG is actually a great coordinator, but||
when he was at Michigan, RR refused to let him do what he wanted. Perhaps at Texas, Brown told him to do whatever he wanted. He obviously can't be that bad he was the only change and Texas has gone on a winning streak.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||Brown Bear, I'd really like to know your opinion -||
I hate to put you on the spot, but.... I know that you've been around this program for a long time and know a lot more about this team, and football in general, than most people do. I'd really like to hear your honest opinion about what the main problems are with this team and in your opinion, how they can/should be fixed.
Is it just youth? Are the players not being developed properly? Is it mostly on the coaching? Should the Oline be better this far into the season? Do you think this team is soft? etc...
What does Brown Bear think?
I've wanted to hear this from you for a while but never saw it posted.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||You're absolutely right!||
Michigan is the only college to have fans make ridiculous statements after a crappy loss during another crappy season. Thankfully they don't make ignorant, sweeping generalizations, though.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||Exactly. Especially with him being a D-line coach himself.||
Hoke must know more than anyone that his O-line sucks and is getting worse every week. What could it be besides coaching. I realize they are all young, but the should at least be progressing every week. The O-line is just like Gardner. They are both getting worse every week. He was better last year when he had a week to transition from WR to QB. What else could it be? I like Gardner and think he has tremndous potential. It's sad to watch him in these games. Just like the O-line though, I don't blame him.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||If we had a good line,||
If our Oline was good, Gardner would be awesome. Now we have Joey Harrington, AFTER he played on the Lions for a few years. Gardner is a psychological mess right now. This is where Borges' lack of ability is most evident to me. Gardner has a lot of potential, he just needs the coaching to get him through this rough patch.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||Right?!!!||
Everyone talks about youth, but it seem like the talent we have, especially anchored by an All-American and future draft pick, would be enough to control the line of scrimmage against Akron and UConn. I'm not saying they should be world beaters, but should manage the line against some of the worst teams in college football.
|2 years 50 weeks ago||Keep in mind this isn't Nam. There are rules here.||
This sitcom would have to be one that you actually watched in the 80's, you can't just pick someone that is hot now. Also, you'd be dating them in their prime in the 80's and you would be an appropriate age to theirs.
My top three (at least this week):
Lori Loughlin - Full House
Markie Post - Night Court
Lisa Bonet - The Cosby Show
What's your top three?
|2 years 51 weeks ago||Your very good points...||
Your very good points are my biggest fear. I love Hoke and want him to go down in history as the next Bo, except with MNC. I don't want him to be fired and I will absolutely support him until the end of 2015. That is fair. However, for being a line coach himself, it seems like our young O-line would be much better than they are. After struggling against Akron and UConn I'm also beginning to wonder what's going on. I realize there is a lot of youth on the team, but young players seem to be playing on other O-lines just fine. Not only that, but ours doesn't seem to be getting any better as the season progresses.
Without people jumping down my throat, what could it be besides coaching?
|2 years 51 weeks ago||gbdub,||
I appreciate your compliment as well as your random and excellent use of that phrase.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||I certainly appreciate that, but||
When I'm watching that game, swearing up a storm and thinking about throwing my TV through the window, I like seeing random, angry comments from people thinking the same thing. It's really only during the game and right after, when everyone is still on their emotional rush that things get crazy, and that's exactly why I love watching college football.
I guess my point is that some people take this blog too seriously. I'm on MGoBlog several times a day and admit that my GF thinks I'm a little too involved, but I am just looking for new content regarding my favorite team. Sometimes it's a little dumb, but so are a lot of things I discuss with friends at work just to get through the day. For instance, name three 80's sitcom characters that you'd like to date: in order of most desirable to least and give an explanation for each. Or, who would you rather fight, Clubber Lang (Rocky III) or Ivan Drago (Rocky IV) and why. I Dream of Genie or Bewitched? Perhaps, I'm just not as smart as everyone else on this board. Maybe, I'm just a child. Or maybe some people on here are a little too invested in this.
This blog is my entertainment. Sometimes I learn things from it, and that's cool. Other times, I just use it to get my mind off of real life and just want to read about my team in some capacity. I doubt anyone on here is getting paid for their statistical analysis of each game. I don't work for Sports Center. I don't want to be criticized because I spelled a word wrong or didn't indent my paragraph. I graduated from LS&A and wasn't as worried about my writing and grammer skills during college as I am writing on this free football blog. Something is really wrong with that.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||Is it your job to decide whose opinion is valid?||
Things have not been great this season and I take solace in the fact that other people share my pain. I often watch the game with the MGoCommunity (via MGoBlog) and it makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only person who wants to fist fight Al Borges during the game or that other people's heads are also about to explode. I don't post these things for fear of regretting it later, but I enjoy it that some people do. You may not agree with this, but that's like, your opinion, man. And that's okay, too.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||Get over yourself.||
Some people on this board think its their own special, secret club. They forget that it's the internet, this blog is free, and this school has a ton of fans.
If I could change one thing on this board it would be to ban people who write on this board for the sole purpose of saying that the board sucks or that whatever post they are replying to sucks, or to correct spelling or grammer, etc... This is a college football blog, not the Skull and Bones. It's amazing how many people post on this board to say how bad it is or to chastise someone's post for not being up to their standards. If MGoBlog is so terrible, go start your own blog and run it however you want. Clearly, it would be better than this.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||I didn't hate on Borges today.||
I was hoping they'd just stay in the shotgun and pass all day. They should have had a lot more quick passes, but whatever.
My problem is that the Oline is a joke. How can anyine even talk about power anything when you have such a soft line. Practice be just a big pillow fight.
Also, Devin Gardner seems to be regressing. He looks like he's afraid to throw the ball and that accounts for a LOT of negative yards.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||Actually, I think Borges is doing okay, today.||
I just wish Gardner would get rid of the ball quicker. Maybe have shorter routes.
|2 years 51 weeks ago||My pick is the Officiating.||
My pick is the officiating. If Michigan want's to win, they need to draw penalties from MSU. Use State's aggressiveness against them. Pass intereference and personal fouls. I hope the refs keep players on a tight leash tomorrow and don't just "let 'em play".
Other than that, it ALL depends on how Gardner performs. If he plays up to his full potential, we could win by a good amount. Turnovers will hurt us tomorrow.
Also, Borges needs to set up DG for sucess. I hope we see a lot of the Shotgun.
|3 years 1 week ago||Absolutely -||
I don't blame Gardner, I blame his O-line. I'd be nervous as hell back there too. Remember Joey Harrington and what happened to him behind the Lion's O-line. He was conditioned to dump the ball within two seconds before he was punished. There is no way Morris could be effective right now.
|3 years 1 week ago||I'm not being unreasonable.||
I think the O-line should go in a different direction (away from Funk) and not that Borges should be fired, but that start trying to win games using the strengths of his actual team rather than his imaginary team. The O-line is terrible. There is no reason we should be pushed around by every team we play (with the exception of Central). How can Akron come into the Big House and be a 3 yard catch away from a win? What other excuse besides poor coaching can their be?
|3 years 1 week ago||Actually...||
"When Devin is throwing interceptions like it's his job (as he has been prone to do at times this season), it's hard to throw to set up the run."
Gardner regrouped rather well in the second half and was playing at a much higher level. The coaches should have used his momentum to 1) win the game and 2) build his confidence for the rest of the season. Gardner could have won that game. He was/is the best/only option at this point.
|3 years 1 week ago||Is there a link to the presser?||
Is there a link to the presser?
|3 years 1 week ago||Amen!||
Running up the middle for a loss when the whole night on Devin could get positive yardage... I don't understand why anyone is defending that.
|3 years 1 week ago||2006? Really?||
Isn't that the year we AGAIN lost to Ohio which was then humiliated by Florida the next game 41-14? Weren't we also wearing our asses as hats, courtesy of USC in the Rose Bowl? Great team? Nope.
|3 years 2 weeks ago||If it were up to me -||
On the last drive I would have had DG keep the ball and either look for Funchess/Gallon or scramble for yards. Either that or I would have used designed QB runs. We needed a first down. I almost threw up when Gardner kept handing the ball to Fitz.
|3 years 2 weeks ago||Your response was reasonable and insightful.||
You CAN'T spitshine a turd.
|3 years 2 weeks ago||They probably would have been unranked||
even if they won in 4 OT's last night.
|3 years 2 weeks ago||The loss last night was not on the players||
development. Gardner had a pretty good second half, showing he was able to shake off the mistakes from the first half. That's improvement. The loss falls squarely on the coaches. Running the ball up the middle for no gain and not managing the clock or using time-outs properly. Last night's loss had nothing to do with a transition in coaching philosophy. We should have won that game.
|3 years 2 weeks ago||B||
I love Hoke and am certainly willing to give him a few more years to develop this program. Currently though, the O-line is crap. Our O-line gets pushed around by MAC teams, We can't even run on the worst teams in college football. How is that possible? We need spomeone who can and will right that ship. Immediately.
Borges can and does put up points, but the final drive in regulation last night was the last straw for me. Running up the middle for a loss or no game repeatedly. It was painful to watch. Our last drive lost us the game. Then there was overtime. Run up the middle for a loss or no gain. Repeatedly. Puke.
I love Hoke and still have no doubts he is the man for the job. However, I absolutely think he needs to find a new O-line coach and a new offensive playcaller.
|3 years 3 weeks ago||This!||
I think this is the real factor here. However, it's been a lot longer than an offseason that we've been a looking forward to having a good team, again.
|3 years 3 weeks ago||I'm neither scared nor obsessed...||
At least regarding MSU and their coaches. I am however interested in USC's current situation as a college football fan and have wondered who they'll go after. Narduzzi is an interesting choice and worth talking about. I also wondered about Fitzgerald and if he would be someone they would go after. Regardless, it sounds like you're insecure because you refuse to talk about something our fanbase has a closer relationship with than most. Don't sweat it. Narduzzi is nationally recognized as being a great defensive coach and his name has been thrown around quite a bit the last few years regarding a HC job. I think this is a perfect place to discuss this.
Also, the earth is not flat.
|3 years 4 weeks ago||In all honesty...||
In all honesty, I thought you had some really good stuff. It was nice to know I wasn't alone in my drunken feelings while watching the game.
|3 years 5 weeks ago||Absolutely NOT!||
Isn't it bad enough we have Rutgers and Maryland coming in?
|3 years 6 weeks ago||Is it just me...||
Is it just me or do our lines suck? Barry Sanders would have a hard time running behind our O-line. Our D-line didn't put much pressure on Akron's O-line most of the game. Terrible.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||I absolutely agree with you.||
The patches are huge AND ugly and the with the B1G logo and Addidas logo, the jerseys are way too busy.
Also, why wouldn't you want Jake Ryan make his own number a legend? If I was a player, I wouldn't want to wear someone else's number. If I was a player, I'd wear my own number and be my own player.
I love the idea of the #1 jersey. It means you are THE receiver in a long line of great receivers and there is no gaudy patch to ruin the uniform.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Like pessiMICHtic said,||
$75 to watch Akron. If I ever have a kid, I couldn't afford to take them to a decent football game at the Big House. Those buildings sure are pretty, but it looks like UMich is turning into a professional sports center. It's like the Russians in Rocky IV.
|3 years 11 weeks ago||"Kinda small"?||

That. Cripes, the Mustang's V6 puts out 305 HP nowadays. Makes me wish I was about 10 years old right now. By the time I was old enough to drive, I could buy a used Mustang or Camaro, or a ton of other cars with 300-400 hp. When I was a kid, the used American cars didn't have much muscle. Good to see things back to where they should be.

|3 years 12 weeks ago||Just to clarify,||
"then every player who ever drove drunk should also face a similar suspension, for something that's just as despicable and more dangerous."
When you say "ever drove drunk" do you mean over the legal limt of perhaps drinking 2.5 beers in one hour and driving down the street to a friends is as dispicable as intentionally and publicly slapping a woman across the face?
Or do you mean "stinking drunk" and then driving? Or both equally?

|3 years 20 weeks ago||I would disagree.||
Just worry about the frame refresh rate. You'll need at least a refresh rate of 120 but for that large of a screen, I would recommend a 240.
I have a 46" Samsung LCD which I LOVE the picture - Refresh rate is 120 and it's the sharpest picture i've ever seen, even for sports and action movies.
Also have a 40" Samsung LED -
Samsung makes a good TV, but for a larger screen (60" or larger), there might be a better brand option. Do a lot of research and don't believe what you see at Best Buy. I've been told that they pick and choose what TV's they want to look best on display.

"For what it's worth, I don't want any other schools in the Big 10. I would like 10 schools and a nine game league schedule. We can dump Penn State and its scandal-ridden carcass to the wolves for all I care."
But am very happy with Nebraska. I feel like there is already a rivalry budding with them and the rest of the conference, including us. I would LOVE to keep the original 10 (no, not Chicago), but trade out Purdue for Nebraska. If we did that and went to a nine game schedule, well, that would be close to perfection.
|3 years 20 weeks ago||Can we throw "Staee" (or however it's spelled here),||
in with that group to be banished, as well?
|3 years 20 weeks ago||That's what I'm thinking...||
I like the idea of adding the Duke/NC rivalry to the B1G, but understand the point of those two schools already sharing the same market. I wonder how much Duke would be worth to the conference, assuming they already pull in NC.
I would agree with you regarding VA. Great school, but where's the value? If I had to choose between them and Rutgers or Maryland, I would take them in a second, but at least Maryland brought a market. I still wonder about Rutgers.
|3 years 20 weeks ago||I certainly appreciate your opinion...||
and feel you raise some good points, but as far as viewership goes, doesn't Maryland already attract the DC market? Isn't the DC market the big draw in Virginia? Yes, Virgina is a great academic school, but what do they bring to the table sportswise?
I can see your argument against Duke (and that makes sense), but I don't see one FOR Virgina, assuming the DC market is already ours.
Outside of DC, I wonder if VA has enough viewers to earn their share of the TV money. I would be interested in those numbers if I could find them.
|3 years 21 weeks ago||If the ACC disbanded,||
Why wouldn't Duke come to the B1G with NC, as well?
|3 years 21 weeks ago||No crap!||
Northern football games are a ridiculous idea because of the cold weather. NOBODY wants to go to a football game outside in the middle of winter. It wouldn't be fair to the student athletes!
Oh wait, those were criticisms only for campus bowl games. It's completely different if it's in New York where college sports are second fiddle to the pros. Then it's a good idea and the student athletes will love it.
What a crock of shit.

I am most disappointed with the loss to South Carolina last year. It hurts so much because during the RichRod disaster, I dated a South Carolina grad who would talk SO much smack about the SEC's supiority over the B1G. I couldn't say much because Michigan was historically bad during our relationship and the rest of the B1G wasn't doing that great either.
I wanted so badly to win last years bowl game and it crushed me when we lost.
