I agree. I think there are better jobs out there that would have come calling. Don't know if USC would have come after him, but with another year under his belt or maybe two more games (depending on how the rest of this season goes) there could have been other bigger schools giving him a call.

He has done quite a bit to hire in guys with college coaching or college playing experience so I think that will have a positive effect on the kids. Hiring in Koger is a great move. I don't know if he's getting paid enough to make a living (like some have mentioned on here), but the experience is second to none. While the gun was probably a bit excessive, I kind of agree with the father.
I'm sorry, but kids these days need to be put in their place. I realize it is not the 1950's or 1960's or whatever time period anymore, but parents are big softies for discipline now and it shows. While the daughter being upset with her parents is typical, it's more or so the attitudes they take with other authority figures that is bothersome. Trust me, as a teacher these kids have no respect for anyone but themselves and their peers, and many of their parents just let it go.
As to it being "wrong" for the dad to take it to a public forum, I think that's horse manure. The girl needs to learn that if she's going to go public with something so personal, that it can go the other way too. And that goes for anything, not just family disputes. For her to think it's ok to post anything on facebook and see no retribution is just letting her go down the wrong road.
I know that's not popular opinion here, but I guess hater's gonna hate :)

I guess I just wanted to see that this would have some longevity and have potential to bring us back to elite status.
In terms of longevity, I'm somewhat nervous about having older Assistant coaches. While their knowledge of the game is perhaps as extensive as can be and most of them are AC lifers meaning they probably won't take a job elsewhere, I was hoping for some younger coaches to perhaps better relate to the players they will be coaching, and perhaps when the time comes, be groomed to take over the HC gig down the road. I see many of these coaches retiring after they're done here and while that is fine, it's kinda nervewracking in a sense.
Back to elite status is self explanatory and something that will be graded over the course of Hoke's career here so not something you can check off the list immediately.

So far I have seen nothing wrong with Brian's point of view. He was upset with the process and yeah a little upset with who got hired, but it was with good critical reason. Brady Hoke has had a so-so head coaching career so far, all the statistics back that up. While everyone, including me and my grandmother, are hoping he will be successful and believe he will be, you have to understand that from one side this wasn't an impressive hire.
I will continue to follow Brian, solely for the fact that he is one of the most objective sports fans I have had the honor of knowing/reading about.

I think Brian has reason to be upset.
This is a different situation than the one we found ourselves in three years ago when we hired RichRod. The future is tough to predict, but going off of history in most cases one is able to predict accurately off trends. RichRod had a successful head coaching career in a BCS conference. Brady Hoke, while somewhat successful, hasn't proven as much during his tenure.
I think this is just an emotionally laced post. We know Brian to have his outbursts and I expect that he will do his analysis on the subject and come to be all in for Michigan once again. He will give Brady Hoke a chance, else do what? He's not in a position of power.
|6 years 11 weeks ago||Thanks M-Wolverine||
This really has me in a positive mood. I think we learned an unfortunate lesson from the previous regime and that is that we cannot be divided as a fan base.

|6 years 11 weeks ago||I'll say this, now that it's||
I'll say this, now that it's all said and done, looking back I am more disappointed with how Brandon handled the search than who he actually hired.
Is Hoke our plan C? Yes.
Is he a competent coach? Yes.
Will he lead us back to prominence? Who knows.
At first I was in meltdown mode not getting our top choices, but coming down from the cliff I'm a little more confident that maybe we'll be just fine. Looking around the blogosphere and the mediasphere there is nothing but positive buzz about this hire.
Maybe we have to take a step back and remove the emotion from an event such as this coaching hire and realize that maybe things will be good. Whatever the case, and regardless of what I think of Hoke, I will support the University of Michigan and will not waiver in support. He deserves all of our support after the last 3 years and knowing what no support can do to a team.

I think he just had his hands tied behind his back.
Maybe the bowl game did have more worth than we think it did. Maybe if we didn't get blown out and showed some resemblance of a team effort, things might be different.
I think the plan always was Harbaugh, then RichRod; but after DB couldn't secure Harbaugh and RichRod got embarassed in the bowl game, DB had no choice but to cut RR loose.
I can say I was very upset with what transpired yesterday, but thinking over it, I realized that Db isn't so much to blame, but our damn luck as a program lately. Who knew a guy who claimed to love Bo and Michigan would turn us down, and our current coach would act like a dead fish during a game that probably was the final nail in his coaching coffin.
|6 years 12 weeks ago||I have to agree||
I hate it too, but it is what it is.
I defended RichRod for as long as I deemed fit, until it hurt too much to continue to do so. As good of a coach as RR is, and I believe he is a great coach, it just didn't work out, this little marriage between him and Michigan. Maybe in an alternate universe or in some other frame of time, but at this moment, it just didn't work.
I wish him the best and hope that he finds success somewhere else, but even at this point, with DB holding off for so long, I don't see Rich Rod being retained even if Harbaugh goes to the NFL.

... For real, enjoy it while you can...

UConn is up against USF. It's amazing to think that despite the fact that we dominated them, they would get a BCS bid.

I'm not going to lie, hearing that Dee Hart had an announcement last night and that it was most likely a decommit really set me off for some reason.
I was actually depressed that this kid, who's making the biggest decision in his life, was having second thoughts. But when you think about it, this board and all the fans who follow recruiting really liked Dee Hart and came to actually care about him. I know I did. Maybe it's the fact that he sung our praises or that his name is remenicient of another great runningback here at Michigan, but he was and is loved here.
While nothing is set in stone, yet, I wish the kid the best luck in whatever choice he makes.
|6 years 16 weeks ago||Yeah I have to agree with||
Yeah I have to agree with magnus, our guys just weren't effective enough to remove Denard from carrying the ball 20+ times in some cases. I think that will definitely change next year whether Dee Hart is in the stable or not, but I doubt that would be a reason for his decommit.

I'm sorry but that's a weak argument. You take away any coach's best players and of course he's going to fail.

God you will probably be able to cut the tension with a knife that night. How awkward that is going to be...
|6 years 17 weeks ago||I think it's been discussed||
I think it's been discussed somewhat ad nauseam but scheme is really not the big issue here, it's the execution of the scheme that is important.
Our biggest problem right now is having a coach that has no idea what he's running and how to execute it. Getting a guy like Casteel in here, the mastermind behind this scheme much like Rodriguez is the mastermind behind the spread, would do wonders for the defense learning how to execute properly.
Sorry, but it just bothers me to no end when people try to purport that a specific scheme, offense or defense, won't work in the game of football. Obviously these people have never played or have no idea about the fundamentals of this sport.

|6 years 17 weeks ago||Yeah I'm sorry I have to||
Yeah I'm sorry I have to agree with Fuzzy Dunlop here, there is a difference between records. You definitely have to look between the numbers.
While I came on here preseason and predicted 7-5, this was not the 7-5 I predicted. I didn't guarantee any blowout wins or losses, but I expected that the losses we had we would be handed our butts to us not shoot ourselves in the foot.
The fact that the games against MSU, Iowa, PSU, Wisconsin, and OSU could have seen different outcomes had this team executed and played better football is by far THE most frustrating thing about this season. Had those teams dominated ours in every aspect of the game then I could understand, but they didn't, we just killed ourselves.
Chalk it up to whatever you want, inexperience, whatever, it's a bit telling when your team hasn't even won one game against one of these teams and has lost in embarassing fashion each time.

Last time I checked the coaches aren't out there dropping passes and fumbling the ball. Look the play calling has been good, even for the defense. To put full blame on the coaches would be wrong -- everyone is to blame for this.
|6 years 17 weeks ago||Easily the most frustrating||
Easily the most frustrating thing right now. It's not that we don't have the talent, it's our poor execution that is KILLING us. We should have a MINIMUM of 21 points right now if not for turnovers, dropped passes, and timely penalties.
I just have to vent right now, so I can't really tell you where the true problem lies, but I'm about to go on a spree and break everything in my path. We should not be playing this poorly. Especially when our Defense is playing their hearts out.

I had my doubts like many in the beginning of the season as well as during the season watching him play I was critical of him. But seeing him persevere and get back to form has been amazing and I am so glad for him. He is a true Michigan man in my eyes. |6 years 18 weeks ago||Spreadriguiez||
You sir, have made your contribution to this fair site. Good Day to you.
|6 years 18 weeks ago||Well I understand what you||
Well I understand what you are saying and I agree to a point -- by this time in the year, we should know who is good and who isn't. However, to penalize the team for a previous win just because the team they played ended up having a poor season is a metric that should not be used. Like I said, we have no control over how their season plays out, only our own.
We have to win the games that are on our plate, regardless of the opponent's record. I would love for all of Michigan's opponents to have 11-1 records so long as that one loss came against Michigan, but that is out of our scope of control. You're going to play teams that suck and play teams that are good. Should we win the ones against teams that are good? Yes of course. But if we lose the ones against the teams that suck, we would already have another head ball coach by now.
I guess I also have to agree with you in that we don't know whether the wins are enough. I misspoke and realize that like Dave Brandon said himself, we have to wait till the end of the season. I support RichRod only in the hopes that I want him to return Michigan football back to prominence. If he is not doing that, then he needs to go. If we don't see continued improvement next season, then he will be gone. That I am sure of.
|6 years 18 weeks ago||I get that we have to||
I get that we have to practically go undefeated to satisfy all your needs as a Michigan fan, but that isn't going to happen every season. God I would love for it to -- don't get me wrong -- but we're not playing NCAA 11 here either.
Yes we have to beat teams that we "percieve" to be good, but wasn't it everyone and their mother who predicted preseason that UConn was going to be a seasoned team that won the Big East outright? Now they're middling at 5-4 and it's considered a weak victory.
I'm not saying we shouldn't have high expectations for this team, we wouldn't be true fans if we didn't, but we also need to have realistic expectations and everyone knew that going in this defense would be terrible and the weak link on this team, hence why many predicted this team to go 7-5.
We got the required number of wins needed for RichRod to keep his job, we shall live to fight another day. We will take some "good" teams down soon enough, or else there will be changes. Don't be afraid, they will be made if deemed necessary. As for now just remember that Rome wasn't built in a day, we will see the light again.
|6 years 18 weeks ago||But my point is, how can we||
But my point is, how can we control that? How can we control that our opponents NOT be "mediocre"?
What do you expect? That we make our schedule on a weekly basis? I realize that we haven't beaten teams with great records at the time of playing them, but many of the teams we played did have decent ones. Even Indiana was 3-0 this year when we played them. How can we control their records to ensure that they win more games? We can't.
|6 years 18 weeks ago||Unfortunately we cannot||
Unfortunately we cannot control what our opponents do and how many games they win. Is it our fault then, that all those wins saw that our oppnents went on to have mediocre seasons?
I realize we haven't had a "signature" win (barring Wisconsin 2008), but a season nor a team is built upon individual wins. You have to look at the big picture. Right now we are bowl eligible and have won more games than we have lost. We will get better, the sky has yet to fall my friend.

|6 years 19 weeks ago||Exactly. Execution is key,||
Execution is key, even for trick plays. If the team isn't executing the regular offense, what makes you think they'd be able to execute the trick plays?
Granted they are doing a great job executing the base offense, but they are still young and require more practice before they go nuts on the playbook.
You look at Boise State and yes, they had one game where they went hog wild on the trick plays, but do you honestly think that they do that every game? They're much more efficient and can run an effective offense out of their base set. Every once in awhile they'll throw a gadget play out there to throw the defense off, but to expect a lot of "razzle-dazzle" would be counterproductive.
|6 years 19 weeks ago||Razzle Dazzle is cute, but it||
Razzle Dazzle is cute, but it doesn't win you football games. Execution wins you football games.
If it ain't broke then why try to fix it? I would rather see this team gain confidence and continue to do what they are doing now than to see it all lost trying to work in some gadget plays.
We have a whole offseason to add more tricks and work on new things. Right now let's just work on execution.

I am a happy panda tonight, perhaps happier than I have been in awhile.
These last 2 wins are much more satisfying than the first 5 wins this season just solely based on the fact that they are Big Ten wins. Proving that 2010 =/= 2009 has been one of the most satisfying memes of this season.
Yeah we played terrible, turnovers abound, but seeing that we can win games even when we play terrible means that we are getting better and closing in back to what's normal for Michigan football.
We've got two more tough games ahead, but I ain't scared. We're gonna practice harder and faster in these next two weeks than we have the entire season. Having a chip on our shoulder is going to do wonders for us I just know it.
Yeah... let the good times roll...

This was an ugly win no doubt, but coming off such an emotional victory last week it makes sense as to why they played as poorly. It's unacceptable, but understandable.

I agree that not enough blame is being put on RichRod for hiring GERG in the first place, but you also have to realize that RichRod has very little involvement in the schemeing and the development of the defense.
I mean have you looked over the last two year's worth of Defensive UFR's to see how bad the scheming has been? It just hasn't been the players getting minuses but the coaching as well. That's pretty telling.
