My answer would be one of the following contenders:
- 2006 @ OSU - realizing the magnitude of what had just happened hit me like a ton of bricks.
- 2001 @ MSU - Spartan Bob. TJ Duckett. Enough said.
- 1994 vs. Colorado. 7-year-old me was at the game, and he was not a happy camper.
- The Horror.
- 2008 vs. Toledo - The game where it truly hit me that things would be different now. Harsh realization when you're in your senior year at M.

Belichick flubbed the end of the first half too. Isn't the best decision to have all your defenders purposely tackle/hold the receivers on the play with 6 seconds left? If that happens, SEA gets one more play with 1 second left and will undoubtedly take the field goal.

Since we are the lower seeded team, does that mean we will be wearing maize again tomorrow? I hope so.
|3 years 34 weeks ago||I love Mgoblog,||
but the majority of you have to stop getting your panties in a bunch. The only difference between these jerseys and our normal maize ones (which are amazing btw) is that the Michigan and number are not filled in with blue. Is that really the end of the world?
Stauskas and a couple other players have already voiced their opinion on the shoes, calling them "cold" (that means he approves of them). If the players like them and are excited to wear them, what's the big deal? Beat Ohio!
|3 years 34 weeks ago||If I'm not mistaken...||
they actually do mandate that the numbers are different/stand out from the jersey in the NCAA Rulebook. I don't have the direct citation in front of me, but technically all teams that wear this type of uniform would be in violation of this rule and the opposing team should be granted 2 technical free throws before the beginning of the game. No ref has granted these free throws this season, but it is in the rule book. But we all know how good the NCAA is at rule enforcement...
|3 years 35 weeks ago||psh||
already won it earlier this year in NYC!
|3 years 36 weeks ago||Same division||
Michigan and Ohio MUST be in the same division.
1. by being in separate divisions, it becomes a competitive disadvantage for both M and Ohio because we would still have a protected crossover game every year, where others in our division would have protected crossovers against crap teams, making our strength of schedule more difficult year in and year out.
2. the obvious possibility of back-to-back games which has been discussed.
3. it makes the rivalry mean so much more.
4. It works because if MSU is not in our division, they could still be our protected rivalry game. The only rivalry game we could lose out on every year would be the Little Brown Jug -- does anyone care THAT much?
Proposed divisions (the same as umbig11 proposed above actually now that I look at it):
East : Michigan, Ohio, Penn St., Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Purdue
West: Michigan St., Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Northwestern, Illinois
The reasons why I like the division matchups and think they are good for the conference are as follows:
1. It allows the major programs, Michigan and Ohio, to get yearly access to huge markets and alumni bases in NYC and DC, which is good for the BTN's prospects and the many thousands of fans of either school on the east coast. (while also keeping Penn State in the mix in the east -- something they really want.)
2. it protects all the rivalries in the Big Ten, when considering protected crossovers as well.
3. The competitive balance is still there. The East has 3 traditionally great programs, and the West would be anyone's division on a yearly basis.
|3 years 36 weeks ago||this team.||
This team, man. This is the kind of game that wins Big Ten championships. Going on the road and winning at Minnesota when they don't come to Crisler this year = HUGE.
I just posbanged the shit out of everyone, hope you enjoyed.
|3 years 37 weeks ago||almost..||
I agreed with everything you said until "I would not have been surprised if they had won the game and not ended up being number 1."
The only undefeated team in the nation coming back from a 24-point deficit to win on the road against a top team in the Big Ten. There is no chance in hell we wouldn't have been ranked #1. Every team goes through rough patches throughout the season, and I am proud with how this team bounced back, on the road, and gave Ohio everything they could handle. I do agree that this loss will be a wonderful learning experience for this team, and knowing Beilein, it will help them improve in the future.
|3 years 37 weeks ago||Fair||
I think this is fair considering how the (meaningless) polls work in college basketball. I am not losing any sleep over being ranked #5. All we have to do is take care of business and everything will work out in the end. What truly matters is getting that #1 or #2 seed in the tourney, and I think we are in a very good position to accomplish that goal.
Thursday's game is going to be just as difficult as yesterday's was. This is the Big Ten. Beat the Gophers.

What about the travel distance now for Nebraska fans? The travel to Michigan and Michigan St. are no picnic -- you're definitely flying. And what about the distance between divisional opponents Penn St - Wisconsin. Or Wisconsin - OSU. Or Minnesota - Michigan. Or Minnesota - Michigan St. These are all really long drives as it is. I don't think knocking the inside-outside lineup due to geography holds much weight compared to what we already have now.

Schadenfreude is essentially getting pleasure out of someone's pain. So, in this instance, it would be an instance of schadenfreude for us to enjoy seeing Wisconsin fans who are really, really sad to see Bielema go (which doesn't sound like too many). That's why 'this week in Schadenfreude' that Brian writes is all about fanbases who lose big games -- because it's entertaining to see people so upset.

I'd HIGHLY recommend sitting either in section 34 or 12, at least halfway up, to get a different perspective on things, since you'd be sitting right in front of one of the scoreboards. These sections will allow you to see all the plays develop and see the holes open up at the same time Denard would. I had season tickets in 34 forever and I miss not sitting in those seats anymore.

He hasn't answered many questions so far, but here's one:
Q: What was your perception of big ten football before going to Michigan? Did you're (sic) perception of big ten football change at all after playing in the conference four years? As someone who lives in Florida I only hear how inferior it is.
Tae's answer: Every time i watched a big ten game i always saw 6'3 guys and taller that looked like the lived in the weight room so i always felt like you had to be extremely strong and tall to play in the big ten unless you had super athletic ability. I feel like with time everything changes maybe not a lot but it does changes. The conference to me is still the same and still stands for the same thing but teams in the conference are just adding new stuff on to what they been doing

OSU favored by 45 points to Little Sisters of the Poor. OSU is up 49-0 and is playing "Tresselball". Who is to say that a routine tackle couldn't be "missed" and give up that late touchdown for Little Sisters to cover the spread. On a good team, this situation presents itself more often than normal. I could definitely see that happening, especially at a fine upstanding institution such as Ohio.

Screw you, Harbaugh. Screw You. Mike Hart was right.

who cares about Maryland v. ECU without a little gambling involved??
ECU has a worse defense than ours (worst in the nation in fact), and Maryland's O is pretty good. Throw in the fact that Maryland's LB corps is great, and I like Maryland comfortably.
Maryland -7 and Maryland total points over 39

Gonna go on and on for 2 hours about the history of tattoos and how they have developed over the years. Explain that this is a minor blip on the radar of OSU football, and everything, rest assured, is corrected. After that, he will invite the media for coffee and donuts and free candy canes.

It's funny(?) reading all of this law talk right after finishing up my 1st semester of 2L year today -- seems like there are quite a few attorneys making the mgoblog rounds. The best part is that this has been the most interesting thing I've read pertaining to the law in weeks.
Hook a Michigan grad up w/ a summer clerkship? It'd make a good story, right!?
|5 years 40 weeks ago||don't know why this||
don't know why this originally got negged. I agree with you. The only way to actually get a decent idea of what will occur is to look at it with common sense. There is definitely a chance RR gets to stick around (and I'm hoping he does get that chance), but I think Brandon wants to see what happens with Harbaugh before jumping to conclusions. As weird as it sounds, from what has occurred so far, I think the ball is in fact in Harbaugh's court, which in my view is unfortunate.

i pick them often to lose in contests like this. I care about Michigan enough that if they win (which I obviously hope to God they do every time), I do not give two shits about the confidence pool I'm in. Same goes for wagering a few bucks on the games too. A Michigan victory is much more valuable than a little cash.

for me had to be Denard's run @ ND. In such a big game on national television, that was probably the most pumped I've been all year. Definitely the win that elated me the most this season.

5. USA v. Canada in Olympic Final
i would say Tigers World Series, but I've been, albeit with a bad overall outcome. The WS game I did attend was the only Series victory we had in 06.

a HUGE stretch to say "typical CC kid". While I do know plenty of nice CC guys, it is definitely not a breeding ground of good character. Let's just say the students don't necessarily practice what the school preaches.

|5 years 42 weeks ago||4.5||
it's at 4.5 at some places right now already. I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up real close to 3 by Jan 1.
I REALLY like Oklahoma -17 over Uconn -- that line could not be high enough as far as I'm concerned.
I also love Stanford -3 over Va Tech -- even though VT has been playing real well lately, Stanford is still somehow underrated and I expect them to win by at least a TD.
Agree with you on Wisco.. but I'd be more apt to just wager on the money line at + odds. IF I were to do that, I WOULD HAVE done it a few days ago... or now.... if you're in Vegas...
this all should be prefaced with "If I were a gambling man..." obviously ;)

Devin would be a great addition to this class -- a kid with a good head on his shoulders and great physical capabilities. He'd have a wonderful opportunity to be worked in to the starting lineup not too long after getting on campus, but before that, he'd have the opportunity to learn from our current WRs who have been in the system for a few years now.
All in all, whichever school he picks will be lucky to get him. Hope it's us -- we'll definitely show him the most love at least. How many other schools' fans watch recruit highlight films regularly on this big of a scale and are as knowledgeable about the recruiting landscape as us?! Devin G to Devin L all day!

|5 years 43 weeks ago||very good and interesting points.||
I agree with many of the points you've raised, but I think the supposed hit that we've taken on a national scale is being a bit over exaggerated. Granted, some bad or embarrassing stories come out in the national media -- it's a part of being an elite university with a storied football program. But I do not think that these stories affect the vast majority of peoples' views on how they think of the program as a whole.
We are still the all-time winningest program in the history of college football. People don't just simply forget that. You look at other Big Ten campuses, and the Michigan game is STILL the game everyone looks forward to most (perhaps excluding OSU), even after a few sub-par seasons. I go to grad school at another Big Ten school and I'm a M alum, and I know it's the case here. The respect for Michigan is still there. People still expect us to be back at the top, and I think Rich Rod has this program on that path.
Saying all of that, I do love the moves that we are making to improve PR, as it is essential in this day in age.
|5 years 43 weeks ago||absolutely||
100% agree. it is the worst thing ever and could make a hilarious post not hilarious immediately.
|5 years 43 weeks ago||uhh,||
they'll have a "good" shot at making the playoffs next year? Really? Maaaayyybeee if they stayed 100% healthy, but there is no reason to think that'll happen, especially with our starting QB. (who i think, when healthy, is a stud)
Don't get me wrong, I'm as big of a Lions fan as anyone, but I wouldn't say that the Lions' playoff chances next year are "good". possible? sure. probable? no. good? hell no.
BUT, you are entitled to your opinion (hence why you said IMO) so all I can say is I admire your optimism.

If that player is someone who is deserving of the #1, he will probably be one of the best players on the team anyways. I think people will say that about the best player dropping some passes regardless of what number that player is wearing. I REALLY have a hard time believing that if Roundtree or Hemingway put on that #1, their world would be rocked and they'll start playing tight, etc.
It's an honor to get the #1, but at the end of the day it's another number. I think if anything it will give the player wearing it even more confidence because he's "the man", and players who play with confidence perform better.
