I know that we have all assumed for awhile (quite long when you consider he is still in a high school class right now!) that Shane Morris is THE FUTURE of the QB position in Ann Arbor. Although I very much hope that is the case the more I see & read about Speight makes it seem as though he could really push Morris or maybe...MAYBE...compete to take the starting job. |

| 5 days 1 hour ago | Injection |
I also work in ortho and respectfully disagree with the above poster. I've seen over half of people have full resolution with an injection. I do agree that meds (NSAIDs) aren't useful here. An injection to the area could also be a quick fix and if it doesn't work surgery remains an option. |
| 2 weeks 3 days ago | There is some good advice |
There is some good advice above, but let me break it down. -your hydrocodone dose is either 5, 7.5, or 10mg. It would be safe to take another 3 hours apart one time. The issue with taking too much of this medication would be respiratory depression (it'd be helpful if you had someone with you to ensure your breathing does not become labored or slow). It can also cause other side effects like itching and nausea (as well as constipation), but those aren't neccessarily dangerous -the 500 you refer to is the Tylenol (acetaminophen). This is VERY IMPORTANT. Do NOT take more than 8 tabs (4000mg/4g) in one 24 hour period. You could go into liver failure. Also, obviously do not drink alcohol If you are taking the medicine as prescribed after surgery and still in significant pain, a change of medicine could be in order. Oxycodone (when mixed with tylenol is known as percocet) is a stronger medicine. EDIT: After reading the above, looks like all info was at one point or another covered, but I wanted to get some advice out and this info seemed to be spread across multiple posts. |

| 2 weeks 6 days ago | Thank you for bringing this |
Thank you for bringing this up. I didn't know much about him from a professional basketball player standpoint (my interest in the NBA declined with the Pistons performance). It is an interesting thought experiment (we will for obvious reasons never know) if he would have been re-signed WITHOUT coming out, but now will be interesting to see if he does get picked up by a team. It looks like he has bounced around teams and as Butterfield points out, has been minimally effective recently. This is about when teams just stop signing guys like this. But let's throw this out there just for fun on an off-season Monday: Any chance a team would want to add him BECAUSE he came out? Be seen as super tolerant/politically-correct-to-the-max? Sounds odd but stranger things have happened. Thoughts? PS My idealistic semi-political statement is that I wish he would signed or not signed based ONLY on his past and potential basketball production...and maybe that will be the case. |

| 6 weeks 2 days ago | ^^^This^^^ is a very good |
^^^This^^^ is a very good point. When this was happening the NJ Governor (you may remember him from Hurrican Sandy & SNL & his Hoke-likeness) was proposing a massive overhaul & reorganization of the state universities of NJ (including adding & eliminating schools from Rutgers' system). This is not to say that the president shouldn't be cognizant of things that could be harmful to his university and its representatives*, but if your AD notifies you that there is a situation with the basketball coach and you are taking action to correct poor behavior, that should be enough. For the president himself to be throwing himself into an investigation amounts to micro-managing. We can certainly debate if the AD actually handled the situation appropriately, but from the president's standpoint you have to trust your AD to handle a situation like this within the athletic department. *Since people are comparing this to the PSU scandal, I would hate for someone to have hidden behind any form of a "I'm too busy with something else to handle child molestation" argument. (Edit-Directly below me U-M/VA fan did a good job making this point in a sarcastic way) |

Of course that plays a point. Only a fool would doubt that there was huge amounts of negative recruiting during RichRod's entire tenure. I just got frustrated seeing very good linemen and defenders passed over by the coaching staff (especially when some were in the U-M backyard) to get, as Magnus was referring to, undersized speed ninjas. Speed takes you far, but only when the trenches have been taken care of. PS we certainly don't need to rehash the QB situation while during RR era so I will leave this to a discussion of OL & D front 7 vs. speed/skill guys (Edit-this is a response to Ferris) |

I do agree that half the comments that are down-voted are simly unpopular opinions (often well-articulated) or fly in the face of something Brian said (or something similar). I do think that opposing opinions (and opposing fans) should be quite welcome, as long as they are done respectfully. And yes, criticizing coaches is a cathartic thing that us as fans can often (right or wrong). So who wants to start this one? I'll bite: I used to think that Red was a heck of a coach, but after this season I think the game has passed him by. Time to find a new coach! /s (big-time) |

This is an interesting question. I posted the question of who the MgoBoard thought of as our #1 BBall rival was and although there was nothing close to a unanamous decision, the plurality said MSU. Considering they are at best our #2 football rival, I would love to sweep them in Bball. From my standpoint, I expect the football team to win. Sweeping them in basketball is a bigger accomplishment to me, as I see them as a basketball school and I like beating them at their speciality. |

I have concerns about non-midwest teams as it would likely push U-M into a division with 2 actual B1G teams to have more east coast teams join. I am less concerned about spreading further geographically. Said another way though, who would you suggest we add as 15 and 16? Some would say stay at 12, but that simply won't happen. I also think staying at 14 doesn't seem like it'll happen. So who? Oklahoma & Ok St? Unlikely. OU & Kansas? T Boone Pickens would NEVER allow it (and don't think he can't buy a decision in his favor). Don, I ask (not trying to be a dick) what is your solution? |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | I don't know that would be |
I don't know that would be true. Why do you think they're connected? The "powers that be" might say NC State is tied @ the hip to UNC, but I don't think a private school is "tied" to UNC. Of course Duke is AAU so it isn't out of the realm of possiblity, but I just don't see it. The B1G now wants flagship schools that will bring in the whole state (& between Charlotte and the triangle, that would be a lot of people) Also, chief rivalry has not been important as far expansion has been concerned recently. Nebraska-Oklahoma, Texas-TAMU, Missouri-Kansas, 'Cuse-UCONN, Pitt-WVU, Rutgers-...OK you got me there, but you get my point. |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | My understanding that a large |
My understanding that a large reason that were removed was their medical school/hospital (and its research) was not included because it is in Omaha. This would be akin to U-M hospital being in Detroit-Dearborn region and being considered part of U-M Dearborn. Now U-M Ann Arbor has many other areas of research as well, but this would be a HUGE chunk of research cash lost. In addition some of the reseach Nebraska did with the USDA was also not allowed to be included. Do you know to what degree this played a role in Nebraska being removed from AAU membership? Would it have happened anyway? You seem knowledgable on the subject. |

Don't be suprised if lacrosse (before hockey or baseball) becomes the next money making sport. It is a very fast growing sport which is entertaining to watch on TV (and is having rules to make it move even faster and fan friendly) |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | Returning to the gloryous |
Returning to the gloryous days where they occaisionally make a bowl game against a team with an outgoing coach... All kidding aside my point is this: adding UNC would IMO be the best football addition from these ACC schools and they could be a consistent bowl team. I know a lot (or all) of this is about money and perhaps other sports, but we should try to be adding good, if not great, football teams |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | Careful...you're gonna start |
Careful...you're gonna start sounding like a pre-this year ND fan "we're returning to glory, even if slowly" I don't think Duke is ever gonna be anything in football. They'd be another Northwestern AT BEST |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | I thouched on this above as |
I thouched on this above as well. This is something people should be considering more. Although I think the idea of UNC is generally a good one if the B1G expands (it's happening), more teams east means U-M is either in opposite divisions as their chief rival, or in the opposite division of the real B1G. So as you said ChopBlock, U-M could be in a division with 2 real Big Ten teams (ok Sparty we'll count you-3) and the opposite division would have 7 of them...goodbye history. |

In before lock! Seriously you did add some nice new info...but I just don't see 2 threads back-2-back on the same subject |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | Well I'd say this: 1. We |
Well I'd say this: 1. We won't have odd number schools. 2 divisions of 8 seems to make sense to a lot of people including me. I'm not sure if I support adding teams, but the B1G won't stop at 14 2. Who's better? UVA is not good in footbal nor basketball, but would GT really be much more of a step up? UVA makes sense in the footprint, has great academics, and could help lacrosse, which I do get the impression the B1G would like to take over as being THE power conference (may seem silly to you, but I think it is more likely than baseball or hockey to ever be profitable for TV, which is all this is really about unfortunately) 3. Selfishly, I would like the B1G to look for teams because 2 more ACC likely leaves U-M & OSU with the former ACC in a division which would seem foriegn to me and many fans. This won't happen because there is no one who is feasible to grab (Oklahoma & OK st....just don't see it happening) |
| 12 weeks 5 days ago | Ah I should clarfiy. The |
Ah I should clarfiy. The writing seems to be on the wall that the B1G will not stop at 14. So if there is further expansion (which I think is more when than if) I would want it to be UNC |

1 loss...counts as 1 loss...hurts a lot more but at the end of the season it will count in the standings the same as outplaying Wisky but dying by halfcourt & will be regarded similarly to Duke vs. Miami and TCU/Kansas. This next game won't tell us much as PSU stinks. Hopefully though GRIII can snap out of it and get into a groove becuase for U-M to accomplish anything at this point they need some production out of the 4 spot. |

| 14 weeks 4 days ago | Once Morgan is healthy and |
Once Morgan is healthy and splitting minutes with McGary I think Horford should split time with GRIII. I like GRIII just fine, but he can't keep playing 40 minutes a game. I also really like what Horford brings to the game. I like the idea of Morgan/GRIII alternating with McGary/Horford frontcourts. An offensive specialist and rebounding specialist (way over-generalizing the players I know) in each pairing. McGary can be a GREAT player but there is no doubt their interior defense and rebounding take a dip when he is playing the 5. Having Horford out there too may mitigate some of that. At this point it doesn't look like they'll get much production out of their backcourt bench. |

| 16 weeks 3 days ago | My guess for a more likely |
My guess for a more likely 2014 controversy: Gardner dosn't come back and it is Morris vs. true freshman wunder-recruit vs. Bellomy (maybe). Don't forget it is possible that Devin makes great progress in the off-season, has an outstanding year, takes advantage of an easier schedule, lights things up and decides to jump to the NFL. What would perhaps make this unlikely is how strong of a class that next year's NFL QB class will (potentially) be. THAT is your more likely 2014 QB controversy scenario. |

C'mon the U! That is the avatar of the Sons of Ben-the main supporters group of the Philadelphia Union. Going to these games is more fun than going to the Eagles games. I still love being in Michigan Stadium, but a lot of that is due to it being sentamental. I agree that going to Philly Union >> TV whereas going to Big House >or= to TV (UTL notwithstanding) and finally Eagles/NFL<<<TV. My concern is as TV timeouts get longer and longer for CFB that going to the games will feel more like the NFL. This means more incentive to stay home, actually drink a beer while watching the game, cheaper better food, etc. I think that we are going to see attendance continue to go down in CFB. What we may see is Michigan and other powerhouse programs continue with huge attendance but the MSU, Illinois, Cal, Cinncy type schools will see a dip...if not plumet of attendance |

| 17 weeks 2 days ago | I think that we got a slight |
I think that we got a slight advantage as far as calls (not nearly as much as the fans at "the Barn" would argue) However, they did something the refs at OSU didn't...they actually called the mauling hits fouls <gasp>...too much physicality is allowed and just chalked up to "o this is the B1G" in my opinion. A foul should be a foul, and last I checked tackling was only allowed in football and checking was only allowed in hockey. |
| 17 weeks 2 days ago | Nice response. I think 3 |
Nice response. I think 3 makes a lot of sense. I was thinking about it and U-M is starting to really get into an 8 man rotation (starters, Spike, Levert, McGary). Bielfelt (sp) didn't see much of the floor either I noticed and he seems to have given good (not great) minutes in the past. The reason I bring this up is that I really do think he could be a valuable contributor, but can't seem to stay healthy along enough to do it. But I suppose as Brian noted, U-M doesn't seem to be moving to a 2 post man set-up anytime soon. |

Speaking of depth and minutes, why no Horford? I know about the patellar subluxation/dislocations, but he had been playing and I thought he'd be good to go. Did I miss something about aggrevating the knee? He is a good player (and could become very good if he ever stayed healthy long enough). Seems that he could have helped the team given the strength of Minny's frontcourt. |

Good question. Without an MRI I really can't tell you if it is bruised/irritated or entrapped. Nerves are netorious for slow healing, but it has been over 2 months without improvement (and it sounds like this was a re-aggrivation of previous problems). My best from-the-couch guess diagnosis would be entrappment, but who knows (that is rhetorical...obviously he and his docs do) *please excuse terrible spelling...long day |
| 18 weeks 4 days ago | Gotcha...not trying to get on |
Gotcha...not trying to get on ya. I guess that we agree then that given his inability to throw a week ago coupled with his lack of improvement over 2 months since the injury makes me believe that this injury is still very much lingering. I do agree that (when healthy) he can throw the ball and would make quite a good Wildcat QB if there is any NFL team/OC who is willing to dust off that idea. Seems to me that we have option QBs (RG3, Kaepernick, sort-of Wilson), but the change-of-pace/Wildcat QB has fallen out of favor recently. |

Now that the season is over and we're in to this kind of Draft prep stuff my question is when would he consider surgery for his arm. Considering how long this has lingered it is quite possible he'd need ulnar nerve transposition. I would imagine he'd want to do that after the senior bowl before the draft. Or conversely does he try to minimize this until he is drafted and let the NFL team docs guide his decision. Thoughts? |
