Okay, two things (so sue me):
1. They pay all of their employees a genuine "living wage;" they are ludicrously expensive for that very reason, but hat-tip to literally putting their money where their mouth is.
2. They have a tempeh-based version of their reuben that I tried when my doctor told me to stop eating red meat or I was, very soon, going to be fitted for a casket. It's delicious, and I (almost) didn't miss the corned beef. Most of the flavor and texture components were there, however, which I appreciated.

Finally! Something on which we agree.
It's been said of Harbaugh's move back to college that it was "better suited" to his style; that college players aren't around long enough for Harbaugh to really get on their nerves. But, coaches are another story. As tough and uncompromising as he may be on the athletes themselves, one can imagine that if you're on his staff, he's all that and then some.
So, even if Wheatley and Harbaugh are friends outside of work, that doesn't mean they are compatible professionally.

Whole Foods Market has some great online resources. Also, consider expanding beyond lentils, to include other legumes, tempeh (if you can eat soy), and various crumbled meat substitutes that you can make using tofu (some of them are very good - in bolognese sauce and chili, you won't notice much difference).
Last year, I ate at a vegan restaurant in Calgary. The use of tofu, cauliflower, and other ingredients as meat substitutes was a revelation. It used to really miss eating red meat. I don't anymore.

But Saban has a great excuse now. If Kiffin stayed thru the NC game, and Bama lost, Saban can say it was because Kiffin was "distracted." Now that he's gone, if Bama loses, it could still be "distraction" related to the change in OCs, an unfamiliar style with Sark, etc.

Like any new system (whether on O or D) it takes opponents a little time to figure out, so a coach like Urban (or Rich Rod) will be very successful for a while, especially given the loaded roster he walked into at OSU.
But opponents' coaches are also smart, experienced, and capable of figuring out how to counter scheme. If they are also able to attract good players or already have them, they can and will win with increasing frequency.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I disagree||
Turnovers cost us The Game this year. Because of them, it seemed we tried to put away our scoring O in order to limit opportunities for turnovers. It let the Buckeyes off the mat, and they made us pay for it. By the time we reached overtime, thr D was gassed.

|8 weeks 1 day ago||Exactly what I believe||
We had our chances to win in regulation and didn't do it. We gacked up the game, pure and simple.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||Again, I don't disagree||
But if we choose not to be Norte Dame, we get Delaney and shitty, biased officiating. That's why I stopped watching Michigan football years ago (except when I go to a game). The bullshit calls and no-calls were too much to take; I just can't enjoy a game with refs like these.
So, be as pissed off as you like. But don't expect anything to ever change.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||Don't misunderstand||
I totally agree. But how is this different than any other time in almost FIFTY fucking years? The only way we will ever win in Columbus (and ever have) is by playing a damn-near perfect game where the officiating doesn't affect the ultimate outcome. We had three turnovers yesterday, including one at the goal line when we were going into score - plus a running into the kicker penalty, which is like a fourth.
There is NOTHING we can do to control the officiating. Should we be pissed off that it was so bad? Of course. But by giving the ball back four times, we created the conditions under which bad calls and no-calls decided the game. It should never have come to that.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||WTF?||
Why would they change that rule? It just makes good sense.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||This hasn't changed in 40 years||
I love Harbaugh, but the tirades on the sideline work against us; it was the same with Bo. We just aren't going to get the calls going our way - and most refs, while probably decent human beings - are just not going to go out of our way for us; and a few are unquestionably biased against Michigan.
Bottom line: we will never win a game if the outcome depends on officiating; certainly not in Columbus.
|8 weeks 2 days ago||Complain about officiating as much as you like||
The fact remains that UM is going to be at the receiving end of a lot of bullshit calls - always have been, always will be. How about the bullshit TD awarded to USC, even though Charles White clearly fumbled the ball before reaching the endzone? What about the targeting foul in last year's MSU game?
But this game was about the turnovers. Officiating sucked - but it always will. Our team can't control that. We had them on the ropes and kept letting them back into the game. Simple as that.

Maybe it will be a match made in heaven and the Pistons will be in their Forever Home (or the stadium is no longer considered state-of-the-art in about, oh, 2028; whichever happens first).
But just as soon as Gores no longer believes he's getting a good deal from the relationship with Olympia Entertainment, he'll start the campaign for new digs.
|9 weeks 7 hours ago||As surely as night leads into day||
The Pistons will be demanding their own stadium (paid for largely through taxpayers) within 5 years. I'm fine with the move downtown - in fact, I think an active, vibrant Detroit is good for everyone. But the very likely outcome is a new Pistons arena at some point on the mid-term horizon.
|9 weeks 9 hours ago||The worst part||
When Jim and Dan get anyone up in the booth with them (and often when it's just the two of them) they start waxing nostalgic about the good ol' days; and before you know it, the game is completely incidental to their anecdotes about that thing Dan, or Jim, did with Bo that one time.
It reminded me of the impersonation of Harry Carey that John Campanera does; only that was funny. Jim and Dan aren't supposed to be.

If I channel Gerdeman and think about the Buckeyes objectively for a minute, it was about time. The guy makes plays - if he played defense, too, he and Jabrill might be spoken of in the same breath.
It really makes no sense that the OSU coaches didn't figure that out sooner. At Florida, Urban had Tebow, around whom he built a nifty offensive scheme... but maybe that's the issue - Urban is a great coach, but not inventive enough to see past what a dual-threat QB can do. So, with respect to Samuel, Urban is a like a duck looking at a wrist watch.
Maybe Samuel would like to be tutored for a couple of years by Harbaugh and his staff instead.

They lost at Iowa that year but held the Chuck Long-led team out of the end zone (Iowa won on 4 FGs). Michigan scored the game's only TD.

At least for a while, they'll keep it close - maybe much like the MSU game. Hills has been playing much better lately.
Sometime late in the 3rd qtr or early 4th, we'll probably put away our scoring O; but until then, Durkin is a pretty damn good coach - and he may well have picked up on a few chinks in the armor from the State game that he'll dial into his own game plan for Michigan.
|11 weeks 4 days ago||Buffs||
Have an asstastic game plan going on. I'm about to start shouting "Buffy NO!"
|11 weeks 4 days ago||That depends||
I've thought about this issue ... It COULD work, but a school would have to be ready for a war with the NCAA - one it may not win. It would get waged for years in the courts, etc. In the meantime, you'd have upset alumni who wouldn't be seeing their alma mater playing intercollegiate sports; a billion dollars in capital assets going unused (and in declining states of repair); etc.
Even if we won the court fight (which we well could - no school to my knowledge has ever directly sued the NCAA itself), you'd have to rebuild all of the impacted athletic programs from the ground up. It could be a disaster akin to getting dealt a death blow by the NCAA regardless of the legal outcome.
Someone at U-M would have to be REALLY pissed off to take that route, is what I'm saying.
|11 weeks 4 days ago||Really?||
Okay, so perhaps not "terrified." But wouldn't you agree that Harbaugh taking a team from 5-7 to contending for a playoff spot in 2 years is making the SEC, Pac-12, and every other program in the country extremely agitated about what he's going to do next? He's made Michigan Football more visible than anyone outside of a handful of others - and it's attracting the nation's top recruits for the effort.

You're right on all counts. Still, this is the Horseshoe and the Buckeyes we're talking about. I hate those guys, but no matter how bad they look, they have way more talent on both sides of the ball than the Huskers. They deserve a wary eye of respect.
The score predictor on Foxsports said that OSU was favored to get around 25 points, while Nebraska would score a few less; and a 58% chance to win.
Interestingly, their same predictor gave us a 59% likelihood of victory against Maryland, with a final score of about 29-23. I can't imagine that we'd only score 29 points against the Maryland defense, but their score predictor was fairly accurate last weekend. Just a curiosity, I suppose; but it's the only one that didn't suggest that we'd straight-up murder Sparty on the road.

That INT happened within the first 4 min of the 2nd half. On the very next drive by MSU, Michigan got the stop on 4th-and-Goal. From the shadow of our own goal line, Speight went over the top to Darboh for a 40-yd gain.
If you recall, they went down the field, and when finally stopped short of the goal line, got the FG to put us up by 3 TDs going into the 4th Qtr. At that point, the odds-to-win were firmly in Michigan's favor, and (according to the FEI) almost 98%.
That's not playing scared; not even close.
|12 weeks 12 hours ago||I'll get negged for this||
Probably for even suggesting that it's appropriate to get negged, but...
I agree that I don't think Urban's issue (to the extent he has one) at this point is specifically Harbaugh. I think it's more about not having a 100% assurance of a win.
That may change if the rivalry with Michigan/Harbaugh tilts decidedly north.
|12 weeks 12 hours ago||Right||

So, my understanding of that rule is that with only 1 second on the game clock, any touch by a Michigan player causes the last tick to come off; the game is immediately over, and even if MSU recovers a muffed kick-off, they can't run a play because no time is left.
|12 weeks 12 hours ago||I read on RCMB||
I think I found your problem.
|12 weeks 13 hours ago||You raise a couple of good points||
Meyer's focus is completely to win. No matter how close, he's happy to get it; but when the victory is in doubt, like it has been at times this season, it really eats at him. I have to believe that he probably goes home to kick the dog after a loss.
Harbaugh obviously loves to win - and there's no substitute for it; but he is really excited about everything it takes to plan, train, and execute on the road to victory.
|12 weeks 14 hours ago||They're not playing "not to lose"||
They're playing the highest percentage odds to get the win. There's a difference; "playing not to lose" means playing scared. "Playing to the best win odds" means limiting the opponent's opportunities.
|12 weeks 14 hours ago||My opinion as well||
A few folks have even gone so far as to express concern about not beating the spread in the last two games. This is probably the least of the things that concerns our coaching staff right now.
They know that we're coming down the stretch, and at this point, just winning out - no matter by how much - puts us into the playoffs. So, the strategy has changed from early in the season - where getting noticed for style points matters - to simply securing the "W" in the least risky way possible.
This is just one of the many ways in which our NFL-experienced coaching staff plays chess while almost every other college staff plays checkers.
|12 weeks 17 hours ago||That was exactly my thinking||
MSU's D sold out to stop the run, and they (and we) knew the play calling was going to be all-run (except for the one first down we got on a pass play). Statistically, that pretty much iced the game; and although MSU went down the field really fast, they needed to do it too many times in a row to put a win into serious jeopardy.
Someone said yesterday that it was a typical NFL-like strategy. Our coaches wanted to get the WIN, first, last, and always; not send "mental messages," or any other such bullshit.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||I'm not sure||
If I would watch that live webcam, first down or no first down.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||I'd like OSU to have another loss before we play them||
But not if it's to Sparty. Because fuck those guys.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||Wait||
Did something move to the Dairy section?
|12 weeks 1 day ago||Grammar nazi reporting in...||
|12 weeks 1 day ago||I've heard the same thing||
$200 per year and no Animal Husbandry program is a deal-breaker for some people.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||Cumong, man||
What are the odds that NO ONE from Michigan gets a finger on an onside kick with 1 sec left on the clock? I'd say the likelihood isn't "almost zero;" it's COMPLETELY zero.
And Dantonio was pretty clear that going for 2 wasn't about a chance to win the game. By his own admission, he wanted to send a "mental message" to Michigan... Whatever that was.
Of course, he didn't count on Jabrill sending a message of his own: "Fuck you."
|12 weeks 1 day ago||And yet||
Sparty would sacrifice an entire dog show worth of puppies to have an athlete like him.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||Nope||
Not in the least.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||Oh, yes it is||
To people who have a sense of humor.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||Someone must not have seen the same game Sal saw||
Because, in his opinion, we'd lose to everyone in the Top 10.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||It's not the stiff joints that make you grouchy||
It's the lack of stiffness in more important places.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||It must still go 10 yds||
And there was no way it would have gone beyond the Michigan line without being touched by a Michigan player. If Dantonio's logic had somehow worked out, he should have immediately played the Power Ball Jackpot because his luck in life would never be so high again.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||Exactly this||
I think the whole team, coaches included, came to the realization at the end of the 3rd quarter that the outcome of the game was basically decided. They took the boot off Sparty's neck and it showed.
The only problem with that approach is that momentum is a funny thing. Once a team decides to let go of it, they may never be able to get it back.
|12 weeks 1 day ago||I'll you one thing||
During that 4th Quarter, I was so concerned that I got into a funk and my personal FAP rate hit an all-time low; which, not coincidently, saw a marked increase in my SHART rate.

|12 weeks 2 days ago||The 2nd half wasn't good, but...||
I think it's safe to say that Michigan let up on the gas. In fact, both Jabrill and Jourdan said they did.
There is an obvious lesson learned here: don't let up. Ever. College football relies on emotional swings and momentum.
I think Michigan needed that wake up call. They'll be better for it going into the final four games of the regular season.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||It sure is||
And it's probably the most common sin committed in all of Catholic history.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||But a hundredy jillion to nothing||
Sure would have been fun.
I think that's the real issue with most people (me, too, if I'm honest). We wanted to "cackle with knowing glee," but we couldn't at any point.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||Oh, Lord, it's hard to be humble||
When you're 8-0 perfect in every way.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||That was so unsatisfying||
MSU will walk out of there with its head held high. Pisses me off.
|12 weeks 2 days ago||I'm getting a bad feeling||
UM suddenly playing like ass.
|12 weeks 5 days ago||Thank you for your interest in Michigan football||
One of us will be sure to get back to you.
|12 weeks 5 days ago||To be clear||
I agree completely with you; not Bando. At all.
|12 weeks 5 days ago||I don't think this is quite the same as MSU last year||
I think there are deficiencies that Meyer is trying to minimize or mask. But, I think he over-thinks the issue; and rather than play (and coach) the way it's worked all season, he goes into Tresselball mode.
A coach like Harbaugh would recognize that he can get into Meyer's head and affect the game planning and in-game decision-making.
|12 weeks 6 days ago||I wasn't the first to make that argument||
But, I agree with the statement in its entirety.
UM '90, BS AeroE
|12 weeks 6 days ago||Where in Livingston County?||
I grew up there ... Just north of the Howell-Fowlerville border lies Cohoctah. In that community in the 1980s lived the Grand Wizard of the KKK. He held many rallies there during the summer months and it scared the crap out of the rest of us. That was shit we just didn't need.
|12 weeks 6 days ago||Herman will go to Texas...||
Charlie Strong will go to Oregon.
And they'll both be better for it.
|12 weeks 6 days ago||Japan||
|12 weeks 6 days ago||Also impossible to tell the difference||
Because for all practical purposes, there isn't any.
|12 weeks 6 days ago||We aren't||
That's a sad fact. BLM has been quite vocal in Toronto about the racism that exists in Canada as well.
Then there are those countries in the world (whose names may surprise you) who have xenophobia and racism as official policies. While we have a lot of problems in this country, becoming a permanent resident or citizen is allowed no matter who you are or where you're from. That's not true for many highly developed, First World countries.
|13 weeks 13 hours ago||That would explain the 3rd quarter||
But not the ineffectiveness of the jet sweep and Pepcat. Nor the TFLs.
|13 weeks 13 hours ago||Da||
|13 weeks 15 hours ago||Success||
Has a way of generating interest among elite athletes.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||Evidently||
You're completely ignorant about what goes on inside a diocese and among the laity. That's unfortunate.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||Hilarious||
I think "WHAT THE FUCK MEYER" is a banner-worthy quote.
Just one question: Where/who is "MICHIGNA?"
|13 weeks 1 day ago||Watching BTN Football in 60 right now||
The 3rd quarter wasn't great for Michigan. Many missed opportunities. I'm not sure what it was, but we definitely weren't hitting on all cylinders.
There are a few things to clean up before next week. We allowed way too many TFLs; gave up a TO; had some dropped passes; the Pepcat formation wasn't terribly effective; and even the jet sweep was sniffed out pretty well.
I'm interested in seeing how the offensive UFR grades out. I think it will reveal a number of opportunities for improvement.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||I think you misunderstand||
MSU would have to be playing above their heads; and Michigan would have to be making a number of errors for that to happen. It's not impossible; unlikely, but not impossible. That's why I wouldn't be surprised if we were down by, say, 10 points early.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||Dantonio will have them ready||
He has tried to "have them ready" for five weeks - each more desperate than the last. If they haven't figured out a winning formula yet, it's hard to imagine that they will this time.
I don't expect an epic beat down by the Wolverines; but it's going to be a fairly easy win.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||This is really the big difference for me||
MSU will come out and play with a lot of emotion early. It wouldn't surprise me if they took a 7-10 point lead in the first half.
But, their strength and conditioning, not to mention poise, has been appalling late in games. They can't finish games.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||The sky is the limit for him||
Or, you know, the bedroom.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||Absolutely||
Sparty's slide this year makes no sense if we accept as holy writ that Mark Dantonio is an exceptional coach. He is no doubt a GOOD coach; but MSU's slide makes perfect sense in light of a few key facts:
- As Michigan's football fortunes go, so go MSU's, but in the opposite trajectory
MSU will be a tough opponent in most years, so long as Dantonio is in charge. But, they are unlikely to remain a juggernaut with Michigan's ascendancy.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||This||
The Catholic Church, most of it's leaders and followers, anyway, were very introspective after the scandal broke. Was there some damage control in play? Sure, but there was a great deal of sincerity in the heartbreak for the actual victims: those who suffered the abuse. Followers of the Catholic Church demanded answers of its leadership, and changes to be made to prevent the likelihood of future crimes; and, for the most part, we got them. Nothing is ever perfect; but there has nevertheless been progress in the right direction.
Penn State's fan base seems to harbor more regret for the scandal coming to light than for the crimes. Most STILL can't imagine that JoePa knew anything at all about what was going on right under his nose. And, unless and until the school and its fans come to terms with that, my sentiment will be the same as it's been since the news about JoePa broke:
Fuck Joe Paterno and Fuck Penn State.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||Meh||
He is a coach justifiably proud of his team. Most coaches would have said the same.
Also, Fuck Penn State.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||Exactly||
That isn't a veteran team last last year's squad. Emotions play a huge factor.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||I'd love to have a beer with that guy||
I felt exactly the same way after last year's MSU game.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||Wasn't on that unit.||
That was on the coaches... it was OSU's blocked punt moment.
