Brian Kelly is the antithesis of everything coaches like Harbaugh, Bo, Woody, and even Dantonio and Meyer stand for. Did you hear his press conference after yesterday's loss? Once again, it was all about "him."

Why on earth would anyone want to play for that douche rocket?
|4 days 9 hours ago||Disappearing Mark||
This is slightly changing the subject - but I've noted that his demeanor seems to be much different this season than last; and different than at any time since he went to MSU. He seems to be taking in every moment and not getting worked up by much.
I get the feeling that he is planning to retire at the end of the season. No direct evidence, just a suspicion.
|4 days 10 hours ago||Fire him at the end of the season||
I think the mostly likely course is that LSU gives him the choice to retire, which allows him to save some dignity, or they will have to fire him. We'll see how stubborn he is.

I agreed with Flutie on that one. The Irish had the ball - and they were relying on things working out for their defense - that had been gashed by the Spartans rushing attack - in their favor. They'd come storming back by having Kizer throw the ball downfield; and the MSU D was only rushing 4 and dropping back 7.
It seemed to me more like Brian Kelly's strategery was out-kicking his mental coverage.

The backup QB got thrown into the game unexpectedly without having nearly the reps running the #1 offense that he will if Liufau can't go this week. CU has some pretty good players on both sides of the ball - so, maybe Russell Bellomy -1.0 still wins enough games to be bowl eligible?

|1 week 4 days ago||Louisville is #3||
They've been playing lights out - but they absolutely dismantled FSU in every conceivable way yesterday. It's very similar to what happened to Michigan's ranking in '97 and '06.
Clemson and Houston will be big tests for Louisville, for sure; but that is an outstanding football team.
|1 week 4 days ago||Eh||
I'm okay with #4 in the AP. I'd argue that 'Bama shouldn't be #1, but the Top 3 seem like the right teams. 4-9 need to clean up a few things, but could be contenders; and then there's "Everybody Else."
|1 week 4 days ago||It wasn't just that they won||
It was that they dominated - and I think it was pretty clear that if MSU hadn't let up on the gas midway through the 3rd quarter, ND would have lost by a lot more than the final score indicated. Sparty looked like a totally different team than the one that struggled against Furman. Sure, one could say that Dantonio had two weeks to prepare his team, but he had FOUR weeks to prepare for Furman, and, yeah....
|1 week 4 days ago||I totally concur||
Kelly is good for at least one WTF? play each game. Yesterday's was his decision to punt with 4 min left and down by 8. When he's up against an inferior team/coach, it may not matter - but when ND is playing a very good team - and/or if they're losing, it can cost them the victory.

He has several friends who are struggling with what appear to be ADHD and other disorders. He encourages them to seek help; and if/when their parents wave off his concerns, he'll speak with his high school counselor, a teacher, or the dean of students, explaining what he's observed and why it's necessary for them to seek help.
A few of his friends' parents have barred their sons from getting medications which may help. That drives him crazy because he believes it's solely based on ignorance (which isn't necessarily wrong).
By the way, speaking of him, my son REALLY wants to go to college in Texas - Houston is his dream school (it's about the location, not the quality of education). Any advice?
|2 weeks 2 days ago||My 16 year-old son is one who has||
When he first began to suspect that he had ADHD (both my wife and I thought he probably had it, but were reluctant to simply put him on medication) he researched the disorder and the various drug therapies extensively. As a high school freshman, he could already draw the serotonin molecule from memory.
Since he started visiting a psychiatrist, my son has very detailed conversations about the various options with the doctor. As a teenager, he errs on the side of "more drugs is better;" so the doctor has to moderate his enthusiasm for a pharmaceutical response to every issue. Nevertheless, his doctor has said several times that it's easy to have a conversation with someone as knowledgeable as he is.
One of my high school classmates has a Ph.D. and is a researcher in Pharmacology; he spoke to my son about the various therapies and drug options at my request almost two years ago. When I asked my friend about my son's degree of understanding, he replied, "Your son could write down what he knows today and have a better thesis than most Ph.D. students I know. His knowledge base is really impressive."
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Actually, I have||
Over about the past year (must be something in the water around here). In all seriousness, beginning last fall, I started having mounting problems with my client portfolio and then, with a few of my colleagues. Mostly, they were things beyond my control.
But as my own anxiety increased, so did the cortisol. My sleep was not restful, a routine blood test returned high levels of an enzyme (MPO) for arterial inflammation, and I started gaining weight.
The MPO levels in my blood increased my anxiety even further. My doctor doubled my daily statin dosage, and worked with me on my diet. I also made sure I got more exercise (going from 2-3 days per week to 4-5 days). Finally, I've found time to laugh - this blog has been a great source of humor; but the return of Bloom County has been a Godsend.
It's all helped. The anxiety is still there, but it's managable. Having had a small taste of what my family has gone through for several years, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Like a cold||
Or, even, the Shingles virus. It's always there, but dormant - until it's not.
And, thanks for the kind words. It's sometimes hard to react "correctly." I am not too proud to admit that my reaction at seeing my wife and our kids get "that look" on their faces, and knowing where their brains are about to take them, has sometimes been, "Seriously? This shit again? Stop it, already!"
If I'm being honest about it, that reaction is borne from fear. I can't do much to help them except to be supportive - and I'm a "Type A" personality, and an engineer to boot, which means I want to throw a switch and fix the problem (so I have more time for myself to chase the shiny ball).
|2 weeks 2 days ago||And then there's TMS||
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is what was recommended by my wife's Psychiatrist because she wasn't responding to the usual therapies.
Naturally, our insurance carrier's response was, "Yeah, no." Additionally, the out of pocket cost was more than $10,000 - something we couldn't afford at the time.
But, I couldn't really fault our insurance company. The success rate was only about 30% - so, it's a pretty steep bill, and no way of knowing until AFTER the treatment (which required treatments a couple of times a week for several months) if it had been successful.
Sadly, medical science knows a lot about mental illness - but also very little.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||It CAN be treated in everyone||
But not everyone can BEAT it. As Meyer said in the article, in some people, it's a matter of simply managing it.
My wife, daughter, and son all suffer from a combination of anxiety and depressive disorders. They've each been in treatment - including both prescribed drugs and therapy - for a long time. The last several years have certainly had their ups and downs - the downs have been among the worst moments of my life as I've helplessly watched them enter downward spirals.
You're correct, though, that there are techniques that can be learned which really do help manage the disorders. They are very important to practice every day.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Key difference between Bo and Bobby||
Listen to the actual words of Bobby's speech - he made it all about HIM and the embarrassment over losing that HE felt. They were letting HIM down.
Bo would never have made it all about him ... "No coach is more important than the team..."
I don't doubt for a second that Bo yelled his head off when his players screwed up on the field or in practice - if it was the right way to motivate a player. But he didn't go into orbit because a player did something that was a personal affront to him. His overriding interest was in getting his team to do what it didn't think it could - not for his glory, but for theirs.

Then you were in the area to possibly have tried Jim Shaw's in Macon (incredible fried green tomatoes). Around the '08 timeframe, there was a bbq joint across Bass Road from the Bass Pro Shops in Macon. The woman who cooked and owned the place made the best ribs I've had to this day. I asked her whether she'd ever considered entering a competition and she made a face like it was the craziest thing she'd ever heard.
I'm also a big fan of some places in OKC. I spent a lot of time at Tinker between 2008 and 2011. I love Brahm's for the burgers; McNellie's for the beer and atmosphere; and several other spots around the city as well. I love the Nichols Hills area of town, and stopped every morning at the Starbucks on my way over to the base. OKC grew on me as you can probably tell.

I broke my "pinkie toe" a couple of years ago - it took almost 9 months to heal. The ortho doc tried everything short of surgery to fix it. What finally did the trick was ultrasound stimulation of the bone.
If it is broken (get it x-rayed) you absolutely want to make sure it properly heals. According to my doc, if it breaks through to the joint, that makes you a candidate for arthritis.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Maybe not||
With Cam Cameron calling the plays for LSU, they need all the help they can get.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||I'm okay with their Michigan snap judgment||
It's hard to project future outcomes based on the level of competition. We had a few key injuries during the first game of the season. That probably won't matter against UCF; but Colorado doesn't look like the cupcake we thought it was (though we should still win, it's not going to be a laugher).
MSU started horribly last year, too. We'll know more about them after they've played ND. If they look like they did last week, they're in for a long season. But they are always a different team when they play against Michigan - at least that's been the case for the past 10 years.
For me, Penn State and Wisconsin will tell the tale. Win those comfortably, and we're in the driver's seat.

While it's possible that the previous comment about Kelly not wanting Zaire to transfer is correct, it's a sure sign of arrogance to think you can get away with that in a big game on the road.
Kelly is too clever by half. If he'd stuck with his starter and saved the experimentation for later, he'd probably have won comfortably.

And the sight lines are terrible. But, there's something to be said for being a part of a "spectacle" like this.
Bristol Motor Speedway set up a new, permanent, HD display suspended above the infield. The thing is HUGE. Most people will be watching the game on it - which will be almost as good as doing so on their own couches.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||Welp...||
|4 weeks 3 days ago||I'm all||
|4 weeks 4 days ago||We win||
But with a new starting QB, a few questions on the OL, etc., I don't think the first quarter will be a walk in the park - probably closer through the first half than anyone expects.
However, that travel schedule and the relentless pounding of huge OL and DL will wear down the Warriors. It'll be a completely different game (and Michigan team) by the fourth quarter.

|7 weeks 2 days ago||Delta is getting better at that||
Earlier this summer, my family and I were traveling home from Seattle and were delayed for three hours. Delta provided pizzas and bottles of water at the gate while we waited. As we boarded the flight, a "red coat" Customer Service Manager was handing everyone boarding a voucher for a $100 gift card of our choice (including Visa, Amazon, Amex, Delta, etc.).
That keeps the passenger griping down I'm sure.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Amen!||
Living in a secondary market is asking for trouble if you travel frequently. Moreover, there are hubs that it's just better to avoid altogether if you're connecting from somewhere.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Shouldn't, but they do||
I read an interesting take on the outage yesterday that it's pretty likely Delta (as do MANY, MANY other companies) outsources its IT Operations function; and how it manages the relationship with the service provider is one of the probable root causes.
Even though there are Service Level Agreements governing disaster recovery, 3rd party companies are incentivized to maximize the profitability of the engagement (I used to work for an IT services provider - I know from whence I opine). Consequently, client teams are typically understaffed; even IF they have the hardware and software applications needed for service recovery, backups (which in the SLA may be required every night) are only done occasionally, if ever. Moreover, few service providers maintain more than a skeletal staff on-site, even under the best circumstances. Most of the team will be remote (whether overseas or in the U.S.).
I'm sure Delta's executive leadership is going to want to know just what the hell happened. However, its own IT organization (starting right from the CIO) will be in CYA mode. The service provider is going to be made out to be the bad guy, of course; but I'd bet my own paycheck that the IT function responsible for oversight wasn't following its own rules.

It's probably about exposure and revenue in a large media market (Ohio) that includes a wealth of recruiting talent. It's the same logic that had the B1G expanding into New Jersey and Maryland.
|7 weeks 3 days ago||Yeah||
I want someone to tell me just what the hell I was thinking by going that site. I'm pretty sure that the only brain cells I killed were the weak ones; but I won't know for sure until I try something requiring more cognitive function than grunting.

A walk-on, sophomore DB from Commerce Township, and my neighbors' son, who graduated from Walled Lake Northern with my daughter. Your parents are mighty proud of you and so are we. Well done, Louis! Making the roster, even as a walk-on, is one hell of an accomplishment. Go Blue!

Or perhaps the first thing she notices when she walks in the door is the laundry that needs to be done.
Or the dishes in the sink.
Or eight days of dirty underwear on the bedroom floor.
Or the pizza boxes and empty beer bottles in the living room.
Just sayin', ya know, it might be wise to tidy up the place before she comes home if it's a "posbang" you're looking for!
|7 weeks 6 days ago||My Brent Story||
I lived next to Brent in South Quad during my freshman year. He was a year older and far wiser than I was. Growing up a fan of the Wolverines, I was star struck at the thought of one of Bo's Boys living next door.
Early in the year, my mom found out that Brent was from Dayton and liked the zucchini bread she had made for me that I had shared with him (at this point, if Brent is reading this, I just gave away my real identity). She made a bakery's worth for him and brought them to him during her next visit. She adored Brent and treated him like her own son.
On more than one occasion, I came back to my room having been over-served. Brent literally stood over me like a big brother and made sure I would be okay; and gave me some "tough love" a time or two.
Thirty years later, Brent is still someone I admire greatly. He's still my "big brother" (from another mother).
God bless, Brent. Many thanks for everything. You made a huge difference in helping me to grow up.

Losing someone to addiction carries with it similar feelings of regret as when a friend or family member loses a battle with depression (I have experienced both). In addition to dealing with the loss itself is the almost unshakeable sense that something more or different could have been done.
If you have them, work hard at putting those thoughts and feeling behind you; seek counseling if you believe it will help. I have little doubt that you, your family, her friends, and even your sister herself did everything that could have been done to prevent her passing.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sister.
