This is exactly why I no longer follow recruiting as closely as I used to. You used to be able to take a young man at his word. A commitment on a recruiting weekend should ALWAYS be interpreted as "I had a good time".

That's a big "IF" too. Why didn't M go out and spend a million on the best DC money could buy?

Because the LC cronies' dirty hands are all over it. I'm not even one hundred percent convinced RR would have been brought back regardless of how this season played out. I mean, barring winning a B1G championship, what have we seen over the past three weeks that lead any of us to believe this wasn't a decision made when Denard threw his first pick against Michigan State?

This is an absolute joke of a hire. Not only is he less qualified, he brings in a totally different scheme which will run off the single most electrifying athlete to ever play at this damn school. SHAME.

I love stats comparing the Big Ten and the MWC. Can we do it again?

Loving a school is not a qualification at this level of athletics. This dude is unproven, no matter how you slice it. Can you honestly say this dude is an upgrade over RR? Don't forget to take into consideration the fact that the most electrifying player in the history of this damn school will almost assuredly transfer.

That's great though. Doll-hairs is one of those things where no matter how many times I hear it, it still makes me laugh.

People keep saying that he told his players he'd be back, but other than three athletes who were paraphrasing his post Cotton Bowl statements and providing their own hypothesis as to what he'd do, there is not a single credible source from inside that meeting. Like I said before, Les probably told his players the same thing he's been telling everyone else:



"I love it here, why would I go anywhere else?"



This is what is called a non-denial denial. It can be interpreted as, "He's staying" or "I love it here, why would I go anywhere else. Oh yeah, because of cash doll-hairs and it's Michigan". You either read it one of two ways and it's probably based on which school's colors you wear on Saturdays. People need to stop saying that he promised his players to be back, because it just gives the uninformed haters more stones to throw at the guy who is probably going to be our next coach.

but these quotes are paraphrased to the point of almost unreadability.  Is the writer quoting Jeffries quoting Miles?  Is the writer quoting Jeffries paraphrasing Miles? 

They have rumors going around about (me) going to Michigan, but it's not true.

Ok, great.  The rumor was that he had already accepted the job at Michigan.  He says nothing about not accepting the job tomorrow.

We respect our coach, and this is our coach for right now, and we're going to enjoy him as long as we can. Coach Miles is a Tiger. This is his group of guys, and he's proud of us. I think this is where he will be next year.

"For right now..."  "I think..."  Great kid, no one asked you what you think.  We want to know what he said.

Very poorly thrown together if you ask me.   Even if Miles addressed his team with these quotes, they still read as more nondenial-denials than actual denials.

that Les Miles informed his team of his intention to do anything, whether it be stay or leave.  I can almost guarantee that what he did say was the same thing he's been saying to the media since about two hours before last night's game:

"(LSU) is a wonderful place.  I love it here."

This is in no way a commitment to returning to LSU.  Considering this is what he has said REPEATEDLY for almost 24 hours now, I can only imagine it is, verbatim, what he said to his players.  If they are misinterpreting this information as a commitment to LSU, then that's their problem, but as of right now, no one is saying anything about confirmed quotes from the meeting.

My brother worked at Mancino's.  He once brought me home his leftover Chicken Parmesan sub. 

That future schedules have anything to do with a coach's decision to take a job. Not that they've been great hires or anything, but if the schedules were take into account, ND would NEVER have a coach.

I know this thread is supposed to provide a sense of calm over the masses. I can definitely appreciate that and applaud the mgoblogger for his perspective.



However, let's not get carried away with the "Well in that case, Hoke wouldn't be a totally terrible option."



Hoke has won nothing compared to Tressel (circa 2000).



Hoke:

Eight seasons as HC, three winning seasons (including one "set the world on fire" 7-6 season)



1-1 in Bowl Games



His one "great" team under-achieved and lost the MAC Championship game



Tressel (circa 2001)

Ten Div I-AA Playoff appearances, six Championship Game appearances, four National Titles



Fifteen seasons at YSU, only three losing seasons



I'm not saying Hoke would or wouldn't be a good coach at Michigan. Who can honestly predict that? However, I am saying that while this OSU timeline and apparent fan backlash may be slightly encouraging and calming for perspective purposes, it should not be a reason for the Michigan fan base to automatically go "All In For Hoke". Keep it in perspective people!

But the timeline leaves me scratching my head. Based on how soon after the Cotton Bowl we heard the news, one can assume that DB and LM have been in talks since before the Gator Bowl. Meaning, the result of that game probably factored very little in the decision regarding RR. If that's the case, then why wasn't some sort of move made post OSU, pre Gator debacle. Some sign of competency that wouldn't have cost us further embarrassment and nearly four weeks of recruiting. I'm not saying Les couldn't have coached LSU in the cotton bowl, but maybe the announcement of his hire at Michigan could have saved some face.

Sorry, it's late, this whole thing has me resorting to paragraphs of random streaming consciousness, and for that I apologize.

Michigan offered Harbaugh $5.2/year?  Anyone know where he's getting this number from?

Also, I guess any debate as to whether DB was serious about moving the HC's salary from the "middle of the pack" to the top is over...
