If there is easy money to made by the smart money, it will be made, thus gross mispricings should be corrected by the demand of the smart money.
But if that easy money has to overcome the vig, then that leaves room for some mispricing before it becomes profitable for the smart money to go against the "dumb masses". But then again, the smart money will be shopping around for a minimal vig in addition to the dumbest line.

|6 days 8 hours ago||We lost 19-17 on a Mike Gillette 49yd FG miss||
about one foot wide to the right as time expired at Notre Dame at night in 1988. (The Rocket's two TD returns came in 1989 at Michigan.)
If memory serves...(I was there)
In the loss to Miami, we were up 30-14 and had the ball at the Miami 40 with 10 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, threatening to blow the Hurricanes out. A penalty stalled that drive and we had to punt. Miami got the ball, drove the length of the field for the TD and converted a 2 point conversion. Miami kicked off and we again had to punt. Once again, Miami drove the length of the field for another TD with about ~1:30 left to bring the score within 30-28. THey went for two, but their pass was intercepted in the flat by one of our DBs, who had an open path to return it for two points had he not been caught from behind, but he chose to play it safe an take a knee. Miami then went for the onsides kick, executed it perfectly with the ball bounding up into the air on the 2nd hop (new for that era), and recovered. After a few first downs, they were in field goal position, and kicked the FG but left a little time on the clock.
Michigan received the kickoff and after a few plays was at the Michigan 40 with about ~10 seconds left. We tried a long pass (not quite into the end zone) that was defended by Miami with a blatant pass interference shove, but the refs chose not to call it. Had the penalty been called, Michigan would have been at the Miami 45 with a couple of seconds left, in possible range for a record Mike Gillete 62 yd FG as he was making them consistently from 60 before the game. But the pass interference was not called, and so we tried another desparate heave on the last play (which didn't make it to the end zone either), and I believe fell incomplete to end the game.

The ND defensive coordinator didn't know how to exploit the weakness, and certainly didn't have pregame practice time employing defensive schemes tuned to our OLine's weakness.

Assuming a normal distribution:
A one standard deviation "big play" happens about 1 / (1 - .5 - (.68 / 2) ) or a little less than once every six plays.
A two standard deviation "big play" happens about 1 / (1 - .5 - (.95 / 2) ) or about once every forty plays.
Is a "big play" something that happens once in a typical touchdown drive or once a game? (Except when Al Borges is the OC.)

What made me go "Holy Cow" about the play was that Henson was sitting in the pocket with a defender (DE?) coming at him full speed from the right. My conjecture as to one of the reasons Gardner performed so well against ND but not others is that the ND defensive coordinator didn't have the chance to see our pitiful O-Line on film.
Others did, and if you saw that O-line combined with the speed of our receivers, wouldn't you tighten your coverage? (Or you could load the box and bet that the O-line won't hold up long enough to do serious damage.)

In 2006, Appy St was the AA National Champion, finishing 14-1 and ranked #53 overall by Sagarin. A loss to a ~50ish team is not that unusual an even, even if the opponent is labeled a AA team.
In 2013, Appy St finished 4-8 and ranked #175 by Sagarin.
So Appy St finished somewhere between the 2013 Connecticut/Akron range (#121 and #137, respectively) and the 2009 BabySealU/Delaware St (#206, 4-6).
I suppose the 2013 Connecticut and Akron games should give us some reason for concern, but I gotta think that a Michigan program going into 2014 with its coach near the hot seat will be focused for its opener.

1) Most likely: Hoke is sucking up to Shane to keep him happy for next year
2) Next most likely: Hoke is going to great lengths to keep Devin thinking there's a QB competition
3) Least likely: Hoke actually believes in the QB competition and is willing to risk his job on Shane. If Hoke chooses Shane over Devin and it doesn't work out, he gone.

The dangerous outcome is for Ghana to beat Portugal while the US loses. In that event, the best the US can do is to tie Ghana on b) if the US loses by only one and Ghana wins by only one, Then, dropping to c) the US would advance if it scores the same or more goals than Ghana in the final game.
