|1 week 2 days ago||This has been covered||
What was as he supposed to say, "Gibbons won't play this week because he has been expelled from school due to his involvement in a sexual assault case"?
You are wrong. This has been covered previously, on the main page, and on the boards, including input from lawyers who are mgoreaders. No, Hoke couldn't say that, not without opening himself up to a lawsuit from the Gibbons family, for discussing the academic standing of a student publicly without that student's permission. Hoke's options were as follows, without exposing himself to a lawsuit:
a) "it's a familty matter"
b) "violation of team rules"
c) no comment
Both a and b were both half-truths, and he could've gone with either. He probably would've been better off with going with b, so it looked at least like Gibbons was being punished for something, in terms of appearance's sake. But, saying violation of team rules would've gotten the press searching for what that violation was, leading to a distraction right before a bowl game. Saying "family matter" nipped questions in the bud and allowed the team to focus on the game they were about to play. going with c would've also resulted in a press storm and distraction.

The AV club from the Onion folks, www.avclub.com does two distinct recaps for GoT. One for those that have read the books and one for those who haven't. Book spoilers are heavily ban-hammered in the non-books thread. Here's the link for the non-book readers thread for last night's episode
If you're looking for discussing the show with absolutely no spoilerage from the books, that's a great place to do it.

You should do this to your quad. Also, do you do r/c planes as well? There's kits you can buy (or just build your own) of flying snoopy's doghouses. Flyingthingz.com has the kit for $150.
But in the meantime, great photos, these are awesome and definitely keep doing more! Thanks for posting them!

Returns in a week on FX. I'm surprised no one has mentioned that yet that I saw. 1st season was pretty good, so I'm looking forward to season 2. Also definitely can't wait for Orphan Black & GoT to return in April.

BiSB - great work as always, especially the missed J's for the OSU section. However, one error, on the Iowa's remaining schedule section, you mentioned Indiana twice, but forgot @Sparty 3/6/14. I'd want Iowa to win that one, just to help keep Sparty back behind us.

I'm not sure if it's available on netflix streaming but Orphan Black is amazing. 1st season was 10 episodes so very easy to binge-watch it. If not on netflix I'm sure you can find a torrent of it. Season 2 starts on BBC America in April. I can't recommend that show enough.

|15 weeks 2 days ago||2013 Northwestern||
I have been to colder games but the 2013 @ NW game was the most miserable both in terms of the awful product on the field, and the cold rain all game long combined for just a wearying, miserable afternoon. I'm just glad we got out of there with a W, because suffering through that for a loss would've been way worse.
Also, 2010 vs Penn State was pretty miserable too, it was cold and rainy but not as cold as 2013 NW.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||Happy Friday!||
My weekend plans consist of doing absolutely nothing. Work has been grueling the past few weeks, so I am going to use this weekend to just chill on the couch and get caught up on the few remaining shows I have backlogged on my DVR. Have a good weekend everyone!
|15 weeks 6 days ago||Wow||
As a Bears fan, I am disappointed in this deal. I'd much rather they have spent the money shoring up the defense, as that was the main problem this past year. What a waste of money.

|16 weeks 5 days ago||& for the record||
I only speed like a lunatic on highways. On surface streets I keep it to < 5 over the limit 95% of the time. I also always use my turn signal, keep 2 hands on the wheel, don't tailgate, and don't cut people off or weave in packed traffic. I just like to get where I am going as fast as possible so if the road is open I will take it as fast as I can. I've done 120 on open highway before on empty roads. I made the drive from my childhood home in Deerfield IL to my student apartment in Ann Arbor, a distance of 267 miles, in 2 hours and 50 minutes of driving time once. It was from 2-5 in the morning and the road was completely empty.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||leadfooted IL driver here||
Coincidentally, my last ticket was for the same speed as Clowney's ticket. I was pulled over for doing 86 in a 55 zone on the highway, on empty roads in dry conditions. In IL, 30+ over the limit means the cop has to arrest you for reckless driving, can't just give you a ticket. However, if you ask him nicely and are polite to him through the pullover process, he may be willing to drop your speed down on the citation and give you the ticket for 84 in a 55 zone, so it's a big ticket at 29 over, but not an arrest. This is what happened with me.
Considering Clowney's ticket was for 84 in a 55 zone, I wonder if there is a similar law on the books about an arrest for 30 over the limit in the place he was pulled over, and the cop was doing him a favor by putting him at that speed on the citation. It wouldn't surprise me.
I have a severe leadfoot, but have gotten better with age and now that I'm a dad. In my 16 years of driving motor vehicles, I've been pulled over about 30-odd times, but only received maybe a dozen tickets. I have a pretty decent success rate at talking my way out of them, or in the case of the two times I talked it down to 29 over (the other time I was doing 88 in a 55), talking myself out of getting arrested.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||This year cannot end soon enough||
On top of the disappointing sports moments this year, my December has sucked majorly. I got the flu on my birthday, so I spent it puking my guts out for non-alcohol related reasons. Then on Christmas eve I came down with strep throat that I couldn't get in to the Dr for until yesterday, so I've just begun antibiotics and still feel like crap. I'm now majorly behind on work and am going to have to come in on Saturday. I just hope 2014 is better for all of us. Hopefully Shane can pull off a miracle tomorrow night. Happy New Year everyone!

it was all over the media how he was on the hot seat. If they were truly shocked, then that is one hell of a sealed bubble those boys live in. |17 weeks 6 days ago||I don't have a lot but||
I do have some stuff in my mancave. The prizes of my collection (all Chicago sports teams, sadly no good UM stuff yet aside from my diploma)
An Ernie Banks autograph on a scorecard, a Jeremy Roenick autographed picture, a Jim Harbaugh autographed Bears sweatshirt (from his playing days for the Bears), a John Paxson autographed Bulls pennant, and an autographed photo of Mike Singletary. All are autographs that I got in person from the player in question, as opposed to bought.
The Paxson autograph has a bit of a cool story bro backstory to it. If you remember the OJ Simpson murder case, he had flown to Chicago the night of the murders. It was to play in a charity golf tournament at my dad's country club. I was there with my dad, who was president of the golf board, and would've had OJ as his playing partner. Instead, OJ flew back home upon learning of the news (not that he didnt already know) of his exwife's death, so instead my dad was partnered with Paxson and I got his autograph instead.

when we had voting on posts prior to the start of the football season, the app wasn't able to do modding and upvoting. I'm from Chicago, I just hate deep dish pizza. Especially Lou Malnati's. Their deep dish bites and their thin crust is worse. I much prefer Giordano's to Lou's for both thin and thick. Rosati's thin is my favorite though.
|19 weeks 12 hours ago||My unpopular opinions||
Zingerman's is way overpriced and overrated.
I look down on people that watch Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead that don't read the books the series come from.
The Vampire Diaries is one of the more entertaining shows on TV.
People that watch Honey Boo-Boo should be sterilized.
I think it is perfectly acceptable to be a fan of both the Chicago Cubs & Chicago White Sox.
Chicago Style (deep dish) pizza sucks.
This is a great thread, even better with the return of up and down voting. - not an unpopular opinion but a statement of fact.

|20 weeks 13 hours ago||Hoops title||
The hoops title is the easy pick for me. I'd only pick the OSU game if your sports Genie revealed the outcome of the upcoming BCS games. If OSU wins it all this year in football then my hatred of OSU would make picking the football game more likely.
Nah, even if OSU wins the BCS title this year, I'd still probably go with the hoops championship. I would've won my pool had Michigan pulled off the upset, instead I had to settle for 2nd place. Plus, national championship would've helped tremendously with recruiting, probably would've helped us do better with some of the guys we lost to KY.

If we lose to them a 2nd time it'll be nothing but bad press, & I'm sure enough fans will vote w/ their wallets that DB realizes he made a mistake.
|20 weeks 2 days ago||Surprising||
I'm not surprised that a football fan killed another over a game. What does surprise me was that the killer & the victim were both women. That's more of what I'd expect out of male fans of football. Sad tragedy. It's just a game, people!
|20 weeks 2 days ago||it's my favorite loss||
not sure if that is even possible, as no one likes losing. But as losses go, it's the loss that feels least like a loss to me. I was expecting a slaughter. When it was 35-21 my thought was: "well, I had thought before the game they'd stay close early but OSU would pull away in the 2nd half as the defense gets exhausted, so I was spot on" but then somehow we came back and got back in it, and the game came down to the wire.
Yes, losing sucks, agreed. But as losses go, this is probably the loss I am least ever upset about.
If I were to set aside my fandom, as an outsider you'd probably enjoy watching this game between two teams slugging it out. Someone mentioned it is like Rocky 1, where the underdog goes the distance but loses in the end. That feels right for a description of this game.

no, we can't "demonstrably prove" that fan reaction is behind Peppers' recent decision, but considering the kid himself said that he was looking again because of rumors that Hoke was out the door, fan reaction could be what caused those rumors in the first place.

|21 weeks 16 hours ago||They don't suck||
however they are grossly overrated and overpriced. Maybe its because I grew up on some great Chicago delis, but I was never seriously impressed with Zingermans when I went there. It's probably considered as good as it is because of the total lack of competition in the area.
|21 weeks 17 hours ago||HAM AND CHEESE?!?||
FERGODSAKES everyone knows that Corned Beef on Rye is far superior! You should be ashamed of yourself!
|21 weeks 17 hours ago||as a somewhat mad person||
I have twice in the past week told someone to GTFO and to not let the door hit them in the ass on their way out. But both times that was not directed at people not renewing their season tickets, it was directed at people that stated they were giving up on the team altogether until they were good again, stating they were going to sell their UM gear and never watch a game until the team was decent. Those people can GTFO for all I care, and I think that I'm probably in the majority opinion where we don't want fair weather fans of the team.
As to season ticket holders, if you're not going to renew but still go to every game by getting tickets cheaper on the secondary market, and you're just avoiding paying your PSL, then I am okay with that decision. From a budgetary standpoint, that makes a ton of sense. However, If you are giving up your season tickets and stating you're not going to go to the games until the team improves, then you're being fairweather and in that case my GTFO comments stand.
|21 weeks 1 day ago||No kidding||
At least we are bowl eligible while they are not going to make one this year. Also I lol'd at the Arkansas fans pointing out how Bielema has led them to an unprecedented 8 straight losses, thus keeping his word that he'd show them something they'd never seen before.

|21 weeks 2 days ago||Silver lining||
for me as a Bulls fan: This should hopefully cost the Bulls a playoff berth, putting them in the draft lotto and giving them a shot at McGary or GRIII in next year's draft. I'd love to have a Bulls jersey with a M player's name on it.

This has been a brutal season for the mods - the mod action sticky is up to 3 pages again already. It had 47 new posts since I last posted in it on Thursday. I feel bad for you guys and thank you for all of your hard work. BiSB, LSA2k, & JustinGoBlue if we ever meet in person first round is on me. I fully support super harsh modding right now.
|21 weeks 4 days ago||Only conditioning this week||
That's nearly all the D should do is just run all week. It's clear the O can't stay on the field long & give the D a rest, so they need to be in super endurance shape for this week or they'll be dead by the 3rd quarter.
|21 weeks 4 days ago||Out of gas||
They are clearly getting gassed, it's not so much that they are giving up, they are just collapsing from exhaustion. No surprise there given how little rest they would get with all the O's 3 & outs
|21 weeks 6 days ago||even as the OP of that thread||
I kind of tend to agree, a lot of the comments have gotten ugly. There's a reason I ran this by LSA2k this morning on Twitter before posting, to give him a heads up in case that happened. It'd probably be too much effort to clean up by deleting the bad posts from the good (and there were some informative and well thought out ones in there). Or, maybe just lock it instead of deleting so it won't get reposted again next week by someone else?
|21 weeks 6 days ago||Wow||
I hadn't read the statement from the girl's attorneys yet, if even half of that is true that is explosive, even more so than the DNA stuff. I strongly encourage everyone here to read that link.
|21 weeks 6 days ago||App State||
For me that one hands down. Even if we still got destroyed by Oregon the following week, it'd be nice to not be the first ever ranked team to have lost to a FCS school. The other losses were bad yes, but at least to respectable teams. Losing to App State made us a laughingstock nationally. I'm still mad at DB for scheduling them again.
|21 weeks 6 days ago||Gotcha||
I can see why that would be something you'd be concerned about then, given your experience. And yeah unfortunately but not surprisingly, some of the comments here have been disappointing and shameful.
|21 weeks 6 days ago||why do you think I thought he was guilty?||
I specifically have said "alleged" every time I referred to the incident, and all this DNA test proves was that they had some sort of contact that night. It does not prove consensual or non-consensual. I don't know what to think right now, and will refrain from convicting him until a court does.
***EDIT - I have changed the title of the post and also more clearly spelled out innocent until proven guilty in the main body of the post, I hope this alleviates your concerns. I was not trying to convict him, I was simply bringing up a story I found newsworthy.
|21 weeks 6 days ago||This happened in 2012||
The alleged incident happened in December 2012, before he had his breakout season and became famous.
|21 weeks 6 days ago||agreed||
the fact that they didn't get DNA from Winston until after the story hit the media in the first place, 11 months after the alleged incident, reeks of shadyness. (is that a word, shadyness?) that fact alone makes it look to an outsider like a coverup for the football team was in effect.

its not like he didn't do this just 3 weeks ago vs Sparty, so he'll probably do something similar. I was surprised he didn't vs Northwestern but maybe he only does it if it's below 40 degrees?
|22 weeks 12 hours ago||might not be a newbie||
his start date is 11/3/13, so he is unlikely to be a newbie, IMO. he's more likely to either be: a) someone who got Bolivia'd or outright banned in the wake of the MSU game or b) a Sparty Troll.
But otherwise yes agree with your sentiment 100%
|22 weeks 14 hours ago||Cade McNown||
Now there's a name that will make Chicago Bears fans shudder with revulsion. What a horrible bust in the NFL that guy was.
|22 weeks 1 day ago||That's every NW game||
Their stadium is always half fans of the opposing teams regardless of who is in town to play them. This is due to a) NW fan apathy & b) large alumni networks in Chicago from all the B1G teams

**Edited since I didn't see your comment about Roy Manning at first.**
They're definitely two different people whoever they are. The guy hugging/groping Hoke is wearing a jacket and blue pants. The guy headbutting Gibbons is wearing no jacket and tan pants.

Sadly I still see DB using some wiggle room here & tweaking the helmets instead.
|22 weeks 1 day ago||This kid||
Has more character than the overwhelming majority of his peers. Even if he never makes it all the way back, I'll be cheering for him every step of the way. Coach B has done right by this kid too, probably many coaches wouldn't have done the same. Great post.
|22 weeks 1 day ago||Phew||
That's a relief. Now instead of redundant alt uni posts we can go back to endless fire Borges/Funk posts.
|22 weeks 1 day ago||The mods||
could just send him to bolivia for awhile, take away his points so he can't post new threads but can still comment.
|22 weeks 1 day ago||Why?||
Why didn't you just post this in the thread "Could these be the jerseyz for the Game" thread? It's just three posts below yours. http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/could-these-be-jerseyz-game This did not need it's own thread.
|22 weeks 5 days ago||3 of them:||
|22 weeks 6 days ago||I disagree||
in this case, because we need to balance out the inevitable morons that send him hate filled messages with positive messages, in the .01% chance that Saban leaves Bama for Texas and Hand reopens his recruiting. We dont want him to hate Michigan because of a handfull of dumbasses on twitter.
|22 weeks 6 days ago||nobody is cheating at Bama or Kentucky?||
hahahahahaha are you serious?
Smoke follows Calipari wherever he goes. Of course KY is cheating, just like his prior teams did. They just haven't been caught yet. And Saban cheats too, by exploiting oversigning rules as has long been detailed.
|22 weeks 6 days ago||Reminder||
If you are on Twitter, don't send any tweets to Hand unless they are of the "best of luck to you in the future" variety. Don't send him hate filled garbage, that just hurts our appearance with other potential recruits.
Yes this sucks but life will go on.
|23 weeks 15 hours ago||I think this is what he meant||
I think he thought you were referring to Dave Brandon, because Dave Brandon is paid $800k a year, and some would argue that he sucks and is doing a shitty job
|23 weeks 16 hours ago||why not hold?||
Agreed, they should push the limits until the refs flag them. Besides, I'd rather have a pass play wiped out by a holding penalty than a pass play wiped out by Devin taking another helmet to the ribs.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||Can he be an OC?||
I know he's a defensive player but can he be an OC? If not him, then who would you like to see be the new OC at Michigan after Borges?
/s in case not obvious
|23 weeks 1 day ago||you know some will||
it'll be extremely easy to blame Hand not coming here on the fact that we've dropped 2 straight right before he announced. And even if not everyone says it, many will, because many will probably be thinking it, whether rational or not.
Besides, how often do people here let their emotions get the best of them? As a mod you know that the answer is all too often.
Lastly, were some comments deleted earlier in this thread after my original comment back near the top? Some of the responses I read earlier seem missing, or maybe I'm just sleep deprived.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||It will start small||
with a few outspoken people blaming it all on the offense's failure to win us games lately (and thus blaming Borges) and then it will amplify as the board has become a bit of an echo chamber lately (something I must humbly admit myself to have taken part in lately).
|23 weeks 1 day ago||not play calling mistakes?||
So, repeatedly running a play that isn't working, over and over again, for loss after loss, that's not a play calling mistake? What would you call that then?
|23 weeks 1 day ago||If we miss out on Hand||
this board is going to erupt massively in rage. It will be a meltdown unheard of on non-game days.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||woohoo!||
Time to celebrate! I hope he's back in time for Duke.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||Wow experience||
in a way, we are still providing a "wow experience" but it's just of the "wow, I can't believe our offense is this terrible" variety. Still not the sort of think that'll make DB happy though, you are correct.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||he's probably||
as frustrated with Borges as RichRod was with GERG. Other side of the field is blowing the game weekly.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||deja vu||
I feel like this was discussed recently. oh wait, that's because it was yesterday.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||I'm sure you're right||
Same thing happened in 2009 coming off of the 3-9 year. We bought tickets to the PSU game that year direct from the athletic department, they were in row 30 and right on the 25 yard line, so clearly they were someone's former season tickets. I'm sure the AD will be running a lot of promotions for tickets to next year's awful slate of games, but the only one I plan on getting tickets to is @ ND as long as I can find them for <$300 a seat.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||Exactly||
You can see this happening in other sports. Your point here
is spot on. You can see that happening with the Cubs for example. For decades under the ownership of the Chicago Tribune, there was zero incentive to field a winning team as the Trib viewed the team as a programming and advertising revenue generator for its TV affiliations with WGN and CLTV, because they filled 3 hours a day on the network 162 days a year. After the Trib sold the team to the Ricketts family, we finally got owners that realize you need to field a winning product, and finally the fans have realized it too as the attendance has finally started to drop as the team rebuilds and sucks worse than normal.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||Thanks for clarifying||
Based on your comment and her comments further down on the thread I realize now that I had misunderstood her words and she was not calling out people priced out of the market.
I just wonder if DB will realize before it's too late that he's pricing longtime fans out of the market for season tickets, and stifling futher growth of the fanbase. I'm a 2nd gen alum and have every intent of my son being 3rd gen alum of our great university. But if the prices keep skyrocketing for tickets it'll be a long time before I can get him up to Ann Arbor to go to a game. When I make trips back to AA I don't typically go to the cupcakes, I like to see an actual game. Plus, with NW now in the other division for the Big Ten, it'll be a long time before he's able to see Michigan easily on the road. I'm already looking forward to the 2019 game @ UW, as he'll be almost 8 then.
|23 weeks 1 day ago||16k?||
How many tattoos did he get for $16,000?
|23 weeks 2 days ago||That's not always fair||
The continuing rise in prices can price people out of the ability to maintain their season tickets. It's already expensive as it is, especially if you have a block of four seats. My family had to give up our season tickets for the Blackhawks a few years back because we got priced out of it when seats went from $35 a game to $90 a game in less than 7 years. Now we go to 4 or 5 games a year as that's all we can afford to pay. As I'm in Chicago and not Michigan, it was never practical for me to get UM season tickets in the first place, but now that they keep raising the prices there's less motivation for me to ever get them for more than 1-2 games a year from Stubhub. So when some people cancel their season tickets, don't call them fair weather fans. They may just be broke instead.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||you're confusing||
Ohio State with Michigan State. OSU demolished Purdue 56-0.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||.||
Even with that wait, we'd still get play calls in faster than we do now.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||Unless it was someone else||
I believe you may be talking about me with the "Fire Borges" sign, which I referred to in the Angelique article thread. If not me, then someone else said it somewhere too. I like your idea better and would gladly do it if there were plenty of other people to do it with me. I'm going with my dad to the game though, and I doubt he'd be willing to play along. But if there's anyone else here going to the game @ NW in section 107, I'll gladly do this with you.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||Sounds like||
you read this diary post: http://mgoblog.com/diaries/lets-turn-wrathimpatiencewhatever-happy-fun-challenge
And if I was the person he was referring to in his post, then I am not ashamed at all. I may just bring three posters- run, pass, and fire borges. Unless Borges dramatically changes his tendencies from the past two weeks, I feel I could probably predict the playcalls with 75% accuracy or so. I've done it before. It's sadly not that hard.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||pass||
pass on first down.
pass on second down.
pass on third down.
Don't run for at least the entire first half, just pass every play. And not deep drop slow to develop plays either. Quick outs, screens, and short passes. If we pick up 5-10 yards every play, then perfect. Once the opposing D has finally backed way out of the box to respect the pass, then and only then do you start running the ball. & even then, no more than one run for every three plays. If the D starts stacking the box again, then go back to all passes all the time.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||Two chickens then||
One to crap out the formation, and a second to crap out the play. Boom- problem solved. Plus, think of how funny it would be if first chicken craps out a goal line formation but the second chicken craps on "hail mary." It'd probably still be more effective than our O now.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||my early prediction for OSU game||
The game will be somewhat close in the first half, as our defense will not be too tired yet. Ohio scores maybe 2 or 3 times in the first half. Then, in the second half, after the rails have finally come off for the offense after yet another three and out or turnover, the defense will just be tired and worn out. Ohio will score every series after that, running up the score. It'll be just like the end of the MSU game where the defense just crumbled after the offense failed on their last chance to make a game of it.
Our D is decent, but they'll get tired eventually having to be on the field so long without getting any rest. OSU is going to run up the score as high as they can, in part to help them with the voters for the title game.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||My seats||
are in section 107, which is between the 30 and the 40 yard line on the Michigan side of the field. I'll be directly across the way from the press box cameras, so odds are good that it'll be visible on the telecast. At least assuming the NW security people don't take it away if people behind me complain.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||He may think highly of himself||
& obviously he thinks highly of his wife and deservedly so, but that doesn't make what he said wrong.
Misdirection and hiding plays makes a team successful. My high school football team had only a handful of formations, and we ran 30 different plays out of them, and we could and did run every single play out of every single formation. It's not rocket science. As someone else said earlier in the thread, it goes back to last year's OSU game. Devin in as QB = pass. Denard in as QB = run.
Yes, comparing football to war is stupid, as usually people don't die from football. That doesn't make his point about failing to change tactics in light of new advancements any less valid. The US won the revolutionary war in part because we realized the European way of fighting "i.e. line up in neat lines and stand there and shoot at each other" would not work well with how outgunned we were, so we resorted to ambushes and bushwhacking. WWI was a meat grinder because the generals were content to send men running (and even men on horseback) directly into machine gun fire without any sort of cover. WWII was a disaster for the Allies in the early years because the French thought that WWI tactics would work against WWII tanks and planes of Germany's blitzkrieg.
Just because Al has had a lifetime of coaching football doesn't mean that he knows more than everyone else. In fact, it could very well be why he's so set in his ways and obstinate in the face of change. His contempt for Heiko's bubble screen references in the press conferences is proof of that. When the other team is gifting us 5 yard gains minimum by having their DBs way back from the line of scrimmage, and him refusing to take those yards because they don't meet his definition of what he wants to do is idiocy at its finest.
|23 weeks 2 days ago||Simple solution||
If our playcalling is that obvious where we line up in a specific formation and do a certain play, then that is the fault of the OC for not running mutliple plays out of one formation. For next week we should run the exact same formations as the past two weeks, but do completely different plays out of them. Example - line up with our usual pass set with Funchess and Gallon stacked, and do a run. Or line up in a formation we usually run from and throw a bubble screen or super quick out to the wide receiver. In general we should be doing more screen passes anyways, our O-line is looking like swiss cheese as it is, so a screen up the middle would be nearly indistinguishable to the D from our O-line looking like a revolving door anyways.
If Borges is too stupid to change anything despite our opponents basically admitting that they are stealing our playcalls based solely on formation, then he needs to be fired, no excuses. I agree with the OP that someone needs to bring this up in the presser to Hoke.
I'll be at the game Saturday, and I am sorely tempted to bring a "Fire Borges" poster into the stadium to unveil if he keeps being a dumbass with his playcalling.

As an alum I always wear my M gear with pride, even in the 3-9 RR year. I'll be at the NW game Saturday, & wearing M gear Sunday, win or lose, just like I did today. Any fair weather walmart wolverines that want to stop cheering for us: there's the door, don't let it hit ya on the way out. Go root for Sparty, I'm sure they'd love to have more fans.

for clarifying! I have a gay cousin so the whole "that's so gay" thing annoys me when people are using that to refer to something being stupid.
|23 weeks 6 days ago||Politics||
I'm pretty sure you forgot politics from that list.
On a similar and serious note, can we also have a discussion about what sort of comments within threads will earn you a banhammering/trip to Bolivia? I propose that personal attacks on another mgouser should be on that, as well as using "that's gay" to describe something with nothing to do with homosexuality.
|23 weeks 6 days ago||maybe instead of deleting||
The mods should just lock this one? I have a feeling this topic will keep popping up otherwise.

Speaking of which, I've got 2 extra tickets for it for sale, I'll be adding them to the ticket sticky later tonight, but if anyone is interested they can hit me on Twitter about them. They aren't next to me so you won't have to put up with me at the game.
|24 weeks 19 hours ago||I didn't||
even think that was possible, given how bad their hoops squad is. Things have definitely cratered in Evanston this year. Lets just hope they still suck on the 16th.

I'm glad I doublechecked before posting, I had just created an identical thread, but opened a 2nd window and saw it up.
Anyways - this bodes well for us, I feel way more confident about Saturday now. Nebraska's defense is swiss cheese, and now their offense is something we can more easily stop.
|24 weeks 2 days ago||My thoughts||
For me, a long time (pre-Horror) reader of the blog but only a poster here since last August, I noticed that I cut way back on participating in the comments ever since the moderation went away earlier this fall. At one point there's a month or so gap in my commenting, because the boards had gotten so toxic, where before I was commenting several times a day. I've found that I far more enjoy the conversations I have on Twitter with other mgousers there, as opposed to here on the boards, and as the season has progressed I've been spending more time talking about Michigan there than here.
I think things will be better after the season once they are able to fix the site upgrade and get user moderation back. Until then things are going to continue to be messy, and I don't envy our mods one bit with all the crap they've had to deal with this season.
|24 weeks 5 days ago||Unlucky me||
My father in law is turning 50 tomorrow, so I'm going to his birthday party. It starts an hour and a half after kick off, but unfortunately they live an hour and a half away, so I'm going to miss the entire game. Also, the party is at the gym/rec room at his church (he's a pastor) and there's no tv, so I can't watch it there. And also, since it's at a church, no beer. Oh, and since it's in kind of a rural area, 4G coverage there is spotty too, so no guarantees I'll even be able to follow along online. *sigh*
|25 weeks 8 hours ago||This thread probably can come down||
http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-team-134-shirt OP got his answer in the first comment, and confirmed he saw it. everything after that is pointless and its just taking up space on the front page.
|25 weeks 8 hours ago||not to mention||
a 3 loss season where we finish 10-3 including the bowl game outcome is a win percentage of 77.9%, so it is still a season with a win % higher than our team's historical average of 73.5%. Thus, even a 3 loss season is still above the historical standard here at Michigan. But again, that's bringing facts into an argument, something that seems to be frowned upon here lately.
|25 weeks 2 days ago||points/game stats||
At first glance, that 26.3 points seems high. At first I thought that it was looking at the total scored by MSU in games, but I just checked the math and no it doesn't.
MSU total scoring through 8 games: 26, 21, 55, 13, 26, 42, 14, 42, which is 239 points. /8 = 29.875 per game total between O and D scoring.
Based on who they played though, those 55, 42, and 42 point games (Youngstown, Illinois, & Indiana) show what they can do against no defense whatsoever. I doubt they will score more than 26 on Saturday, which seems to be their ceiling when playing against a defense with a pulse.
|25 weeks 2 days ago||punt coverage||
It's interesting that he mentions how our punt coverage needs to be improved, yet we still keep going with the dinosaur punt formation. Gee Brady, maybe there's a correlation there?
How many more times will we have to be burned on coverage before he accepts that things have changed and that we need to adopt the spread punt like everybody else?
|25 weeks 2 days ago||Xbox live: MikeCohodes||

|27 weeks 17 hours ago||2019||
I'm looking forward to the early season games vs Wisconsin and Illinois. As I live in the Chicago burbs, I'm only about two hours or so from either campus, so it'll be nice to go to a road game early in the year while it's still warm out. I've been to U of I for a game before, but never Camp Randall, so I'm excited. Yes I know we play Wisconsin on the road sooner than 2019 but it is in November and I prefer to watch those games indoors. Same for 2018 at Northwestern, I'll be at that game for sure too.
|27 weeks 1 day ago||to spark discussion on a slow day||
because this is a discussion board after all. And other than the ALCS open thread this has more comments than any other topic today, so I'd say mission accomplished. And because I see people talking about how much they're looking forward to hoops and giving up on the football team already and it makes me sad.

deserves a standing ovation the first time he steps out on the floor at Crisler. Anyone that doesn't stand and cheer this kid deserves to be thrown out of the building. Even if he's only a off the bench role player or not a big star at UM, this kid has shown he's a Michigan Man long before stepping foot on the hardwood. He'll make a great addition to the team.
|27 weeks 6 days ago||Less AC/DC||
I'm a little tired of AC/DC, especially Hell's Bells and Thunderstruck being played at every sporting event. Maybe that's just because the White Sox use AC/DC all the frigging time and I've gotten tired of it from going to those games, but I'm tired of it.
I'd like to hear them play "How You Like Me Now" by The Heavy whenever we make a badass play, it'd be a nice taunt to the other teams, like after an interception or a huge sack. Plus, the MMB can play it, it's got a bit of horns in it.
|27 weeks 6 days ago||Out of my price range||
I live in Chicago so it is already a large cost for me to go to Ann Arbor to see the Wolverines play in any sport, with the cost of tix so high now I've only gone to one game in A2 since I graduated (a decade ago). It's far easier and cheaper for me to catch them vs UW, Northwestern, or U of I on the road, which I do regularly. I doubt I'll see them play in A2 for at least 5 more years, until my son is old enough to appreciate the trip.
|28 weeks 2 days ago||agreed||
That was why I used the sad Kain Colter picture above, you just know that fumbled snap is going to be living in his nightmares for a very long time. I'm curious to see how NW comes out against Wisconsin this week, whether or not they can bounce back from this. A 2-loss Northwestern will help us with the division race quite a bit.

Funniest: Hockey games at Yost vs Northern Michigan between 01-03. NMU had a captain named Cockburn. IRL it's pronounced co-burn, but obviously that wasn't how we were chanting it. Every minute he was on the ice, every shift, nothing but "COCK-BURN, COCK-BURN" echoing throughout Yost. Best was there was a fight incident, so the zebras cleared the ice, except for the team captains. Cockburn was a C for NMU, so we were chanting his name throughout the entire delay of game.
Worst: @ Illinois in 2009. I had just traveled to the Penn State game at the big house the week before, so I was coming off of that disappointing loss, but was optimistic that we would be bowl eligible by the end of the day. We were in the 2nd row, on the 50. Sitting immediately to our left was Juice WIlliams' entire family. Sitting directly behind us was the Illinois recruits on visits. The first half went well, but you all know how the 2nd half went. That was the worst loss I'd ever been to in person for UM.
Closest to a fight: Cold War @ MSU in 2001. Between the 2nd and 3rd periods there was a group of us inside the concourse singing the Victors at the top of our lungs. Suddenly, a very white trashy MSU fan (jean jacket, mullett, booze on breath) comes elbowing through our group, shoving people. Notably, he only made physical contact with the girls in the group, not the guys. One of the girls knocked his hat off his head and a game of keep-away began. He wound up to take a swing at the girl holding his hat, and I had a feeling a massive fight was going to break out if he connected, because he would've been promptly jumped by the guys in our group, and then we in turn would probably get jumped by all the Sparties around us. Suddenly, a massive MSU fan (6'6", 300, had to be a former player) grabs Mr. Drunk White Trash and throws him against the wall. He berates that guy for going to hit a girl, and tells him to get lost, and that he is a disgrace to MSU. Big guy then apologizes to us for Drunk guy's behavior. Probably the only nice MSU fan I'd ever met at a game.

Heading to Iowa to visit one of my wife's old high school friends and his wife and kids. We haven't seen him since he returned from deployment to Iraq, so it'll be nice to see them again and catch up.
Have a good weekend everyone!

per the mod action sticky thread, that thread got tossed for linking to the article on Bleacher Report, which is cause for auto-punting a thread.

Second semester of freshman year my fraternity dragged the pledge class over to the strip club in Ypsi. One of the dancers came over to me and asked me what grade I had gotten in our history seminar first semester. I didn't even recognize her as my classmate since she'd come to class in loose clothing to hide her figure and no makeup. Had she not said anything I'd have never known it was her. Of course, I got a lap dance from her and it was good.
So moral of the story - when some girls say they are stripping to pay for college, it sometimes is actually true.

I was at that game in the 2nd row, and Roundtree's tackle at the one was devastating. Even worse were the four stuffed 1 yard run attempts, completely took the wind out of the sails of all the UM fans in attendance as well as the team right in front of us. That was definitely the worst UM moment I've seen in person
Colorado in 1994 I don't mind as much, as that moment was actually the catalyst for my becoming a Michigan fan in the first place, as I wrote about in a diary for the board here: http://mgoblog.com/diaries/18-years-ago-today-my-trek-michigan-fandom-began but my family was devastated by that, I remember.

she didn't break her nose I have no idea, she's majorly lucky in that regard. It's definitely one of the best schadenfreude gifs I've ever seen though, always cracks me up.

I never watched it but I saw this gif from an episode once, never forgot this. A competition involved giant slingshots and watermelons. Didn't end so well for this lady. That's kinda what this day feels like at work.
