|1 year 45 weeks ago||Question for Brian||
How, if at all, has your opinion about keeping/firing coaches changed after this game? Or, are you waiting for the bowl game?
Obviously, Hoke isn't going anywhere, but what about the others?
|1 year 46 weeks ago||Was a student at that game.||
Was awful. Tried to leave a few minutes early because I felt sick listening to it, but couldn't get out up the stairs because too many other people had the same idea.
|1 year 47 weeks ago||That Yost clip...||
Wow, I wish I had witnessed that and been part of that student section (graduated in between then and what it is now).
|2 years 6 weeks ago||.||
|2 years 10 weeks ago||Class Action||
For class actions, the biggest battle is often the ability to file for a class/obtain class status at all, because then the company (EA) is facing a massive potential loss. Often forces settlements.
|2 years 10 weeks ago||So how will this work when non...||
So how will this work when non-students want to come sit with a sibling or child in the student section (unless they have a validated ticket)? If they are above row 22, it's ok you can be "snuck" in, but not below?
|2 years 10 weeks ago||This.||
+1 to you sir.
|2 years 28 weeks ago||Flipping through Comcast tv guide...||
There are slots on CBS for 2:00 pm and 4:55 pm start times. Since we are non-Eastern time zone, I would guess whatever game from our region, us or not, will be the 4:55, with the winners in Louisville's region playing at 2.
|2 years 30 weeks ago||Got my tickets! Go Blue!||
Also, let's hope that they don't put M and MSU in the same session (I'm not sure if that can happen) Thursday so I can sell that ticket and get outta there.
|2 years 32 weeks ago||It's their cheer.||
We are... Penn state. It's their "go blue"
|2 years 33 weeks ago||I agree.||
Don't see IU losing at home to OSU after they killed them on the road.
Likelihood of IU losing at both Minnesota and Michigan < Likelihood of MSU losing at both OSU and Michigan (or home vs. Wisco).
Therefore, we "want" MSU to win.
|2 years 33 weeks ago||UNC is the best fit so far.||
Assuming we are going to 16 at least, UNC makes more sense than any of the schools we've added so far, probably even including Nebraska because of academics and research. UNC adds an entire state's tv market, a top-notch school with a similar profile to Michigan (public ivy, though less out-of-state), and good-to-great sports (Lacrosse and Basketball AND Baseball, with football that is certainly no worse than Purdue, Illinois, etc.).
What will be tough, unfortunately, is for all of the other sports not-football. This will be killer travel if the conference extends from Lincoln to NYC to Chapel Hill (and possibly even Atlanta). Just really hard on the players to have to go on the road so far away. For #16, my money is on GT, because UVA doesn't add any new tv markets even though it is geographically and academically (slightly) better. Fan base aside, Atlanta will show every GT game, and that's a lot of people.
|2 years 35 weeks ago||B1G is monumentally better than any other conference.||
LOL Kansas. Also LOL Florida (actually not really, they just had a weirdly bad game).
I just hope, come March, that Michigan, IU, Ohio, and MSU are all in different brackets, and play for the all-B1G Final Four. I can dream.
|2 years 35 weeks ago||Thanks for the suggestion.||
I've never done a diary on here before, might be a good time to start. It was a pretty wild time to be sure.
|2 years 35 weeks ago||Go to the game...||
I went as a student when Novak freaked out and we won a couple years ago and it was an amazing experience. Yes, I sat on the roof basically, but they can hear you loud and clear.
|2 years 35 weeks ago||Can someone explain...||
How do the Buckeyes have room for this big of a class within the scholarship limits? I know 82 isn't that much less than 85, but still, it seems like they are going to have to shove people out the door (which, of course Meyes would, but I'm just wondering).
|2 years 35 weeks ago||McGary best defender tonight.||
He had 4 steals, 1 foul, and 1 block. Craft had 3 steals, 2 fouls, and 0 blocks. Oh, and McGary is an actual competent offensive player who doesn't need an extra 2 seconds on the shot clock to score.
|2 years 35 weeks ago||Take GRIII out...||
I know he's crazy athletic but put in Morgan and Mitch together. Try it.
|2 years 35 weeks ago||Go Hogs!||
Wow, even if Florida comes back I guess they are human down there.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Crisler||
Loved Dicky V's excitement to see the new Crisler and the comments about the benefits to recruiting. Credit to Beilein and our entire athletic program's commitment to revitalizing the program.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Watching them grow up...||
...before our eyes. McGary should start. Such better intensity to start the game than Sunday.
|2 years 38 weeks ago||I said the same thing.||
Below it should say "To Hell with ND."
|2 years 38 weeks ago||Wisconsin's schedule over the next month...||
Wow. That is a murderous schedule. 8/10 games vs. ranked teams, and the other 2 against Iowa (a decent/bubble team). It doesn't get any harder than that anywhere.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||Thanks!||
|2 years 42 weeks ago||What's the latest on Horford?||
Anyone heard how he is doing?
|2 years 42 weeks ago||And...||
Jake Long was a 4* and Henne a 5*. All three were all-time greats. Agreed that stars do not translate always (or even usually) into collegiate performance.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||When was the last time M received first place votes?||
1992 also? Any historians out there? What about 1997?
|2 years 43 weeks ago||I'm actually fine with||
the occasional tech. Got some swag. All good teams do. Just don't do it when the game is on the line.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||WVU is pretty terrible.||
I mean, we look great, but we are not playing a tournament team tonight.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||Inner-Outer for football only||
It's crazy to force constant travel between Rutgers and Nebraska more than once every other year...but Rutgers to anywhere is far and will require a plane ride in most instances. For football only, this makes sense.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||Inner outer all the way||
It's going to be far to get from Rutgers and Maryland to anywhere. So travel is whatever. Travel is beat for Michigan and anyone in Chicago with inner outer.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||As much as I'd love to see him back...||
How can you pass up a guaranteed pay-day like this? All the talk will be comparing Lewan to Jake Long -- which is good for Lewan, considering Long has been good in the NFL. Risk of injury, though possibly less for a sturdy OL than others, is still there. Top 10 pick is huge.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||So NIU...||
is rewarded because a huge percent of its student body doesn't graduate and doesn't ever have players leave for the NFL, whereas almost everyone from Michigan does graduate and the team does have players leave for the NFL, hmm...
|2 years 43 weeks ago||Too many missed open shots.||
Keep working guys. Can't miss wide open 3s if we want to win the B1G.
|2 years 43 weeks ago||I'd flip Minny/MSU||
MSU tends to get better by the end of the year, wouldn't be shocked if they ended as a 3 in Auburn Hills. Minny looks good, but I think B1G play will expose them a little bit. Still not sold on having two #1 seeds from the same conference, but I would guess that Indiana/MI/Ohio should end up as a 1, whoever wins the conference, with the other two being 2 seeds as of now. Which is pretty awesome for us.
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Awesome.||
Carbon copy and equally awesome.
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Tiers of the B1G are forming this year...||
Becoming clear quickly how this conference is shaping up, with only Penn St, Nebraska, and Purdue really terrible (though Iowa hasn't really proven a whole lot yet). Will be interesting to see how Wisconsin plays Marquette later today.
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Nah, don't be worried.||
Beilein has said a few times that he is getting older, has grandkids, and his kids who have settled into Ann Arbor as a home. Kind of tired of bouncing around. As of now sounds like he doesn't plan on coaching anywhere else in his career, especially since the new renovations puts M pretty high up in desirable jobs. Except for the obvious historic powers, where would he go?
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Best start in 24 years ago?||
I'll take it. I'll also take the same result we had 24 years ago.
|2 years 44 weeks ago||There's always this:||
Better than nothing?
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Underrated defensive play by Tim...||
forced his man to rotate towards the baseline, right into help defense, easy stop and taking it the other way. Just great maturity and basketball sense.
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Missing bunnies and 3s||
Neither team can put the ball in the hoop right now. Lucky we at least aren't turning the ball over, that's the difference in the game right now.
|2 years 44 weeks ago||Excellent new post||
Would love to see this every week or every other week.
|2 years 45 weeks ago||We're on the website.||
|2 years 45 weeks ago||What's up with Morgan's D?||
Seems like it has been sub-par compared to last year...
|2 years 47 weeks ago||Pressure from their speedy PG...||
Will be good simulation for Burke as to the pressure he'll face from Craft/Appling later this season.
|3 years 9 weeks ago||Are there any full-season schedule wallpapers?||
Had a great one last year, cannot remember if it was from MGo or from another site, but had the schedule at the bottom in different colored boxes (away were all brown, home were all tinted towards the color of the team we were playing that week), and in the middle above the schedule was a Block M overlapped with a picture of the team huddled together after running out onto the field, with various logos underpinning it (B1G and adidas) and "Hail to the VIctors - Michigan Football 2011".
|3 years 22 weeks ago||08-09 are the best, agreed...||
Particularly underrated is the patch on the arms (I have the maize jersey, but they patch could be universal). To me a close second place are the 07-08 jerseys. Both are just classic looking.
|3 years 22 weeks ago||Great idea...||
Would definitely participate. Though it might be scary to see all the companies that think their employees (or bosses) are working hard all day but we are really all on MGo...let's connect like-minded people!
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Bentley Historical Library||
Also, the AD website has some good stuff.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Also visited Ty Isaac today.||
FWIW, further down on Sam Webb's twitter.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Fine with this||
Because of scholarship constraints and a lower number class to begin with, Ohio is almost out of spots. That means that any recruiting battles between M and Ohio might come down to whether or not Ohio has room, whereas it seems like Hoke has specifically reserved spots for these guys that he wants.
|3 years 24 weeks ago||Current 1L here||
I just want to push back on a couple of the more dire things that have been said - in particular, the BC Law student letter and abovethelaw.com are both really exaggerated sources of data, so please don't take those as fact. They have purposefully sensionalized many aspects of law school and the process, and abovethelaw.com is often times flat out wrong or misleading. I also know plenty of lawyers who do enjoy their work, even with some long hours. I don't think it's unreasonable to have to expect to work hard, especially for the few years out of law school. If you don't want to work hard, I wouldn't become a lawyer. That being said, I think you just have to ask yourself where you want to practice law.
If you want to be in Detroit, Wayne State should get you there, provided you work hard. MSU should probably get you there too. If you want to work in Chicago, then Kent is a good bet. Plus, those schools will teach to the bar exams in Michigan and Illinois, respectively, rather than a kind of "national" outlook. If you have significant work experience, that will help you greatly in your job search. Employers are increasingly looking to work experience not necessarily as a requirement, but certainly a huge boost to applicants.
The market is tough, but having a law degree can open up a lot of doors, and the economy IS getting better. Scholarships would certainly make it easier, and I like the insight of some of the above posters on the possiblities to go part time. Don't be scared or enticed by any one stat; there are exceptions to every rule, and you have to decide if the risk is worth it. So far, I'm happy with my decision.
|3 years 25 weeks ago||For the future...||
If Illinois and Indiana were to ever get teams, Chicago could become a third rotating site.
|3 years 31 weeks ago||BTN2GO and WatchESPN..||
They have both worked wonders for me, everything from bus rides to sitting on the tarmac to general boredom walking around.
|3 years 32 weeks ago||Why don't we just take over the PSU bar too?||
It's highly likely that Michigan will have many more fans there...and PSU won't be there very long...this is just an objective fact, not trying to be mean!
|3 years 33 weeks ago||Brian getting into it!||
Fiery! But in all seriousness...who would take a sign seriously that tries to make OSU look more "academic" than Michigan. Stereotypes aside, this is just a joke. Meyer is trying to imitate Hoke's sincere feelings about the rivalry. Sorry dude, can't imitate passion.
|3 years 33 weeks ago||LT -- Magnuson?||
2012 recruits will still be key. Kalis! Bars! Stacey!
|3 years 33 weeks ago||Let's not forget our 2012 OL recruits...||
The 2012-2013 classes are going to be playing side-by-side. Imagine when they are juniors and seniors, what that is going to look like.
|3 years 33 weeks ago||He doesn't care about "elite" programs||
Honestly, does John Beliein strike you as the type of guy to really care about how "elite" or highly ranked a program is? There are so many other factors that are more important to him: family atmosphere, academics, development of talent, players who want/need to be coached. This guy isn't out looking to be get the most wins ever, or be regarded as the best coach of an elite program. He has to see the atmosphere promoted by Red, Hoke, Hutch, et. al. and want to continue that tradition up here.
|3 years 33 weeks ago||To expand...||
It's filtering through the rest of the programs as well. It's more than just Beilein now referring to Ohio as "Ohio." It's more than vocabularly changes. It's a different expectation. And I thoroughly believe Beilein deserves a fair amount of credit too, he just needed a like-minded leader at the helm of the flagship program, football. The two of them combined: wow. If you are a mom, how could you not want your kid to be part of this family? If you are a recruit, how can you not want to join in the success and the love these teams have for each other?
|3 years 33 weeks ago||The only reason I dislike Sullinger...||
is that he goes to Ohio. Hate to say it, but kind of agree...he doesn't annoy me like Kraft does. He wines a little, but only a little, and certainly not more than average. Pretty classy player for the most part, just wish he didn't wear scarlet and gray.
|3 years 34 weeks ago||One more = fab five?||
If we get another 4/5* somehow, we gotta call this the fab five someone.
|3 years 34 weeks ago||Favorite line so far:||
Did anyone notice that Denard said, "This is Michigan fergodsakes"
|3 years 34 weeks ago||Thanks for the update||
What would this take for M to end up out east - either Worcester or Bridgeport. I actually think there could be more M fans that make that trip, because Green Bay and Minny are not the easiest placest to get to.
|3 years 35 weeks ago||this week...||
needs to be a 2-win week for us. we've been alternating in the tough part of our schedule, and that's fine. but we need to win both games this week against a bad team on the road and a decent team at home.
|3 years 35 weeks ago||This argument...||
can be made with any of the major sports though. Just look at the Cardinals this year...very similar story to the Giants. Both made playoffs on last day of regular season. Both were last team in. Fair record (although 90 wins in baseball is probably considered most respectable than 9 wins in the NFL). Beat 3 better teams to win. For that matter, the Cardinals of 2006 also fall into that category.
|3 years 35 weeks ago||Thanks!||
Great explanation I appreciate it
|3 years 35 weeks ago||New England?||
What are the odds M ends up playing in Bridgeport or Worcester? As an East-Coaster I wouldn't mind driving to see them here...would Ferris have to finish ahead of us in the PWR?
|3 years 35 weeks ago||1 or 2 games||
Does Brown have to sit 1 or 2 games
|3 years 36 weeks ago||Enough.||
Any recruiting ranking is an educated guess, AT BEST. Jake Long - 4 star. Mike Hart - 3 star. Chad Henne - 5 star. Will Campbell - 5 star. You see my point.
College is a COACH'S LEAGUE, in both football and basketball. The NFL/NBA is largely a PLAYER'S LEAGUE. I have no doubt that Hoke and Mattison are better football coaches than 95% of the guys out there. It's what happens on the field, and this year we were 11-2 and beat Ohio and won the Sugar Bowl.
From 7-6 to 11-2 Sugar Bowl champs. Keep repeating this until it sinks in.
|3 years 36 weeks ago||Roddick-Federer final...||
had 30 games in the fifth set, about 80 games total for the match. I guess in terms of actual time thought it might have been shorter.
|3 years 36 weeks ago||ESPN wrong?||
Also...ESPN keeps saying this is the longest final in Men's Grand Slam history. Didn't the Wimbeldon match a few years ago that went to ~80 games in the fifth set beat this?
|3 years 36 weeks ago||Thought about waking up early for it...||
Woke up about 20 minutes ago, realized it was still on. These guys are good, wow.
|3 years 37 weeks ago||let's go blue[s]!||

I think the schools exchange tickets. Last year ~50 of us went on a bus to Breslin and sat way up high together.
|3 years 39 weeks ago||Novak needed for some DEFENSE||
we need to play better D. the shots will fall.
|3 years 44 weeks ago||Having been to...||
both Army/Navy and several Mich/Ohio...granted, I'm biased towards Michigan and Army, but I'll say this:
Of "typical" rivalries, Michigan vs. Ohio has to be the greatest. But Army vs. Navy is not typical, and the atmosphere was just incredible. The feeling of mutual respect and absolute competition is not something ever experienced at a Michigan sporting event. Fierce isn't even the right word. It's something more. Michigan/Ohio is intensity, hatred, passion, and blood. Army/Navy is everything that is good about college sports.
|3 years 44 weeks ago||gotta be hoke vs. snyder||
wonder if not making a bcs game could come back to hurt k st again in this way, as hoke can claim the same record, about equal expectations as k st, and a better bowl. though k st is playing in a good bowl too, so who knows.
both are deserving, obviously i hope hoke wins.
|3 years 44 weeks ago||True, but...||
I think you can't under-estimate the effect of home field advantage in college football. This is why I'm much more inclined to give #2 to Ok St, as opposed to Bama...they lost on the road!
Aside from quality of victory, it's really hard to win away from home. It's the same reason why I think Michigan and MSU are basically even teams, and their records reflect that. If that game had been in Ann Arbor, I think we see a different result. If we play ND in South Bend, I think we probably lose.
In other news, Rob Gronkowski is a MAN.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||ok st could end up....||
we could see ok st a strong #2 in computers, and a close #3 in human polls....and they could end up #2 overall. could happen.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||quick update...||

we beat ohio. so there's that.
also, this was a "good" loss...on the road, to a probable tourney team.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||I don't think Houston will drop below us even with a loss...||
they are way up in computers right now.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||so......||
we have to root for state......ew.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||Yes please...||
He's gotta see Hoke, Kalis, Magnuson, and dream about Dunn/Diamond/himself getting added to that mix. We could be talking Wisconsin-type run efficiency in 3-4 years if this were to actually happen.
|3 years 45 weeks ago||Noise factor||
Those fourth down plays in the fourth quarter when Braxton was pretty close to the student section is as loud as the big house gets. Overall I think UTL was a bit louder, but yesterday at the beginning and end up the game was deafening. I also put our comeback vs. Wisconsin in 09 up there in terms of noise.

|3 years 46 weeks ago||Get Burke back in there!||

|3 years 46 weeks ago||Houston...||
will lose at Tulsa this week. Just my opinion.
|3 years 46 weeks ago||Worst case scenario if we beat Ohio...||
Okay first let me say that there is no worst case scenario if we beat Ohio. Everything is good if we win Saturday. In terms of bowls, however, here's how we don't move up to top-14:
14) Michigan St wins out, or Wisconsin wins out and replaces MSU ahead of us
13) Georgia either wins out, or plays the SEC champ game tight so they aren't really punished and stay ahead of us.
12) South Carolina wins out.
11) K St wins out.
10) Oregon wins out.
9) OU wins out; OSU is still probably ahead of us.
8) Houston wins out.
7) Boise St wins out.
6) Standord wins out, beats ND (which is a potential upset here).
5) Va Tech wins out.
4) Even with a loss, OSU stays ahead of us.
3-2-1) All are too far ahead to slip below us.
|3 years 46 weeks ago||Yeah, Arkansas would have to win SEC to get in...||
If LSU beats them, they're out.
|3 years 47 weeks ago||I agree, but MAKE NOISE during the game.||
Next week we'll all have plenty of opportunity to yell the worst things we can think of towards our opponents and their visiting "fans."
|3 years 47 weeks ago||The only bowl game I'm worried about:||
November 26, 2011.
|3 years 47 weeks ago||Compare BiG to Pac12/Big12||
We are very very competitive with both of these leagues in Sagarin, despite everyone calling this a down year for us (which might be true, but still). A couple good teams at the top (though we are less top heavy), lots of teams decently, and a coupel horrible teams. It's a pretty fair match up.
|3 years 48 weeks ago||It's kind of like almost every other Michigan season...||
all comes down to one game. Even in those bad RR years, if we had won the last won the season would have been tolerable.

|3 years 48 weeks ago||Any update on Dunn?||
|3 years 48 weeks ago||This article is extremely promising...||
I hope all Diggs says is true, this would be a great fit.
|3 years 48 weeks ago||About the people who can't understand why he's fired...||
It's really hard to explain, but you should re-read the post on the main page from Six Zero about the PA perspective. As a native Pennsylvanian myself and a Mich grad, it's just a different mindset surrounding Paterno. I imagine it was something similar to what Bo had when he was coaching, but maybe even more extreme.
Joepa was probably the most influential figure in the STATE for the last 30 years. Not just sports, not just college or education, but in GENERAL. While I think this is the right thing to do in firing him, don't try to find any rationality in how people are acting. They are rioting in State College right now because everything PA has been told for the last 46 years has just been shattered. It's not about sports. It's like Joepa was the father of the state, and this is the backlash.
|3 years 48 weeks ago||Not bad...||
except the one scene where he Hails! with his left arm and not his right. Otherwise pretty good.
|3 years 48 weeks ago||If M isn't number one...||
I'd vote for Penn St (without touching on any of the issues going on there right now). Loudest stadium I've been to by far, and pretty cool. Ohio is just, well, a dump.
|3 years 48 weeks ago||It's one of many things...||
MSU "fans" say that don't make sense. I think it's supposed to be derogatory against Michigan fans who didn't attend the university and buy Michigan apparel at Wal-Mart. Part of this might actual have historical background, because Michigan was the first university to widely brand and sell its logo and clothing. This is just my theory, however. Ironically, it is just because no one outside of Michigan cares about MSU that they go with this.
|3 years 49 weeks ago||Patience yes, but not mediocrity...||
There is still a difference in being patient and accepting less than what we are capable of. I think anyone who watched that game today would say Michigan has such a higher potential than Iowa, at least with current talent levels. I don't really buy the arguments that we lack talent right now. We are LOADED on offense, and decent enough to be a mid-to-above-average defense. I'm all for being patient, but we have to take advantage of our players with better playcalling and less mistakes/ turnovers.
I'd be shocked if we won or lost all three of our remaining games at this point. We're just not quite that good or bad to do that yet. It seems, like almost every other year for the last 50 years of Michigan football, that at the end of the day it will all come down to the last day of the year against that school down south...
|3 years 49 weeks ago||Stu/Novak veteran leadership...||
Huge. Can already see the intangibles coming from the two of them. I like it.

#73. Unbelievable. That honeycup mustard is amazing. And there's a parking garage on South Forest basically across the street, usually parking even on gameday.
|3 years 49 weeks ago||How is his defense???||
Obviously the kid's a baller and his sheer size should be able to make him a good defender. But any scouting on this?

|3 years 49 weeks ago||Moral of the story:||
It's just really hard to win on the road in college football, especially in the power conferences. All this craziness is much more easily explained in that one simple sentence.
|3 years 49 weeks ago||Highest rated game 7...||
Since 2004 game 4. So yeah, while this is a Tigers market, let's just be clear it was well-watched. Congrats Cards!

|3 years 51 weeks ago||On the plus side...||
Wisco probably hasn't had a worse quarter in five years, and they're still in the game.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||What's up with ND's helmets?||
Someone used the wrong paint, they are a bit, eh, reflective.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||So is ILL getting worse or Purdue better?||
Or are just both mediocre and Illinois got a lot of breaks to start the year?
|3 years 51 weeks ago||So who do they have us losing to?||
Ohio? Illinois? I think 10-2 is a stretch, but it may get us into a BCS game, even over 10-3 MSU (oh how they would hate us for that).
|3 years 51 weeks ago||Just keep this in your back pocket Mr. Lewan...||
It's done with for this season, so you have to move on and have a strong finish to the season. But remember this for next year, and respond not by punching back, but my putting Gholston on his back. Pancake him. Just destroy him, cleanly and legally. Use this for motivation.
Good week for a bye week.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||It's because our helmets have wings.||
Clearly, the rankings are flawed. But hey, any ranking is going to be, and this takes into account the entire University, not just undergrad, not just research, etc.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||I'm gonna say...||
1) Stu (gradually leading to Burke, if ready)
Howeva, I think Horford has the potential to play a lot more. He's lengthy. Brundige will be interesting to see if his defense allows him to stay in games, seems like the offensive potential is there. McLimans is my big wild card. Pretty sure we'll see the same role playing from Vogrich unless he put on some weight as well.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||The game could be closer than expected...||
Wisconsin isn't really road-tested either, remember. Last time didn't go so well for them at MSU. While I certainly expect Wisco to win easily, it might not be by double-digits (unless they get really angry, then watch out). Going on the road in college football is hard, regardless of who you are.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||Two of the top 5 fan bases in the country...||
they won't match us up against each other unless it's a BCS bowl, which is, fair to say, unlikely. If somehow neither team lost (except for Big Ten championship) the rest of the way, I could see a remote chance of Mich vs. ND in either Orange or Fiesta, but otherwise, probably not. The bowl games want to sell tickets, and Mich and ND travel so well that tickets will sell. Plus, we already played each other, and so ratings on tv won't be as good.
....what would you call the bowl game? Since we already had UTL, it would have to be the "Hey, it's daytime" bowl?
|3 years 51 weeks ago||My general rule of thumb:||
Any team we beat in the last two years, we should probably beat this year. That would put Purdue and Illinois as wins.
At Iowa: if we can correct at least a couple of the mistakes we made at MSU, then we should win this one.
Nebraska: going to be tough, as this is still potentially the game to go to the BiG championship. Being at home will help, as they don't have anyone who has ever played in the Big House. Toss-up, but if we lose, we lose.
Ohio: I'm not convinced they are any good at all. Their defense is decent, yes, but I think we match up exceptionally well to their offense. I'm sure the game will be close, as Michigan will try to give it away at some point, but win here, and we could end up 10-2 on the season. It's easily forseeable.
Then again, if we don't fix our mistakes, 8-4 is easily forseeable too.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||The reason they are still inferior...||
is because of how they act. It's not even the way we react to them, but the way they react THEMSELVES to their OWN success. From the Gatorade, to the way their coaches and players speak about the rivalry, to the way announcers on ESPN subtly refer to the state of football in Michigan, that is why they are still inferior. They don't know how to handle being a better team and take that next step up! Call it pride, or tradition, or arrogance, or whatever...there is a certain swagger that teams like Michigan, Ohio, USC, Bama, Texas, and Oklahoma have (and Wisconsin is developing it seems) when we are winning, that teams like MSU still don't have. Call it a yearning to be taken seriously, or just a desire to be in the national spotlight, but it's a different feeling when the great programs expect to do well and are, vs. when the middle-of-the-road programs like MSU are having a few good years in a row and take it to the extreme.
Just look at the things MSU is saying and doing on a day-to-day basis. That is what makes them an inferior program, not anything we say to them.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||No way...||
You have to factor in that Michigan is 40% out-of-state. While the MSU rivalry is significant, especially to the in-staters, it doesn't even approach OSU, and may not even be as big as ND. If I could have 1 win every year, it would be against OSU, hands down, I wouldn't even think about occasionally beating MSU just for fun. OSU first, always, and most. They are a national power, just like Michigan...MSU is a regional power and hasn't proven otherwise (look at last year). Let's see them beat us 4 more times in the next 20 years, but even then OSU would still be a bigger rival.
It's also mutual rivalry with Ohio. They hate us the most, bar none. That's part of what makes it so special, the mutual rival-respect thing going on (or lack of it).
|3 years 51 weeks ago||At the end of the day,||
being able to grill Borges would be nice, but it's not going to make me feel better. Winning our next 3 (or 5) games, however, would do the trick.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||Would love to see us win the last year of the CCHA...||
would be nice to go out on top. With our goaltending, anything is possible this year. Stay healthy boys!
|3 years 51 weeks ago||Maybe he can talk some sense into certain...||
other people over at freep...
|3 years 51 weeks ago||Great post, but let me ask this...||
do you think MSU should be the ones to pre-emptively suspend Gholston? What about the coaches who were gloating on the sidelines while it was going on?
Thanks for the rational thoughts, nice to know they are out there somewhere.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||The thing is, Wisco will push back, HARD...||
unfortunately, as we saw, we just aren't quite ready yet. They most DEFINITELY are. You think Wisco's O-Line is going to let that nonsense fly? Ha!
|3 years 51 weeks ago||I think it is important...||
to keep in mind that you could see MSU coaches and other players congratulating each other after dirty hits. I agree, that at the end of the day if you lose you lose, but celebrating obviously illegal plays and late hits is pretty awful. Next year, I don't want to give in and play to their level...I want them to come into the Big House and get stomped 70-0. You better believe there won't be any mercy rule.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||I still think a bit high, howeva...||
every week ND wins, that W looks better and better.
|3 years 51 weeks ago||Good points on over-thinking and Countess...||
hate to say it, but Woolfolk just looks slow. Countess hasn't done anything yet to make us believe he isn't capable of stepping up. Unusual for a young player to be solid at CB, but hey, why not?
|3 years 51 weeks ago||I think we'll start to see more DG/DR mix...||
My guess is that Saturday wasn't an anomaly, that as the season goes on we'll start to see more of a mix of the two, both because Denard won't be quite as healthy and Hoke has more than hinted DG is a better thrower. This is like Ohio a few years back, where Pryor split time as he developed and whatever-his-name-was appeared to be a much better thrower. This may not be a bad thing, because it gives teams more to think about when planning for us. But, I think the play where DG missed the wide-open Hopkins shows that he still isn't necessarily ready for the starting gig on his own.
Next fall is going to be a real interesting situation. Just think though, at least now we are debating DG vs. Denard instead of Threet vs. Sheridan. Remember 2008...or don't...
|3 years 51 weeks ago||Not quite on topic but not sure where else to post...||
Anyone know where we can buy the under-gear they were wearing yesterday? The maize with the Victors and Valiant on either arm. I thought that was by-far the highlight of the game.
|3 years 52 weeks ago||Mike Martin's comments about bouncing back...||
I sure hope he's right, because this is right about in the season where we folded the last few years. I think we benefit from a weaker BiG, but his confidence needs to be backed up in practice the next two weeks...
a) get healthy
b) make sure we avoid losing streaks; one loss is fine, streaks are bad
c) maintain poise and don't give into msu's bait of dirty football
d) figure out if you want devin passing or denard
We can still make this a successful year (hell, if we beat ohio, we could go 7-5 and have it be a success).
|3 years 52 weeks ago||The transition-ness of the O came out today...||
We've been lucky so far to get by on great talent, a little bit of luck, and pretty solid defensive play. I think what we saw today was a lot of bumps in transition, and an OC who has never coached the type of players we have on the team now. Give it a few years, and these bumps will even out, especially with the new players coming in. The goal should still be to be competitive in every game this year, maybe get to 9 wins. Can we go 3-2 with our remaining opponents? Or, a better question is (because Purdue really doesn't count) can we go 2-2 against Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, and Ohio? I would hope so.
|4 years 58 min ago||This has got to be one of the most...||
ridiculous things I've ever seen. A top-25 match-up at a supposedly "elite" level program? They will never be elite, and this proves it. Even with a few strong seasons, this is actually absurd. To have tickets available the night before for such a matchup...they just aren't ready for the big leagues, win or lose.
|4 years 1 hour ago||I'll take our running game vs. MSU any day...||
Make them one-dimensional, and our D should be able to either step up or adjust. Let's do it!
|4 years 17 hours ago||Same story...||
started watching at Mich bar in another city...left at halftime. Just like magic.
|4 years 1 day ago||hysterical||
well done, well done.
|4 years 1 day ago||So when you say Surprise!||
What you mean is "Not at all unexpected or atypical" or "par for the course" or "I love it because they just don't know when to stop."
Won't be satisfied until we beat them, however. No mercy rule either. 100-0 would not be a big enough victory.
|4 years 1 day ago||Just win baby...||
Win this week, and I think we can probably hope to be ranked for the rest of the year. Yes, I'm keeping my sights low after the last few years.
|4 years 4 days ago||Here is the difference between 2010 and 2011...||
In 2010, we only won when Denard was perfect. Virtually any mistakes would mean that we had no chance of winning. In 2011, Denard can make a couple mistakes and we can still win. The supporting cast has gotten so much stronger, and our defense gives us a chance to make up for those mistakes.
That being said, like 2010, 2011 is all about Denard not making too many mistakes. 3 INTs against a better team will just not fly.
|4 years 4 days ago||I love the fact that he never says much...||
Always keeps the other teams wondering first of all, and second of all, Hoke is an example to our players about how to act in public. It is no wonder that the demeanor of our team is changing dramatically, because look at the coach, he truly acts how he tells his players to act. Keep it up!
|4 years 4 days ago||It was meant to be slightly sarcastic...||
sorry if it didn't come through. It was obviously the best four years of my life.
|4 years 4 days ago||Need to give up 21 or less this week to State...||
then I'll really think of the D as a strength rather than adequate.
|4 years 4 days ago||Last time seniors graduated with a losing record...||
Was this year. 2011.
Yeah, it was awful being in school then.
|4 years 5 days ago||DEFENSE!||
Every week, we look more and more competent! But seriously, competence was all anybody wanted last year, and now we have seemingly leaped above that to above-average. Part of this has to be maturity, but even so, Mattison really is as-advertised.
|4 years 5 days ago||Overall, a great start...||
D MVP: Has to be Kovacs, Bo would've loved this kid
O MVP: Denard, I mean, come on.
ST MVP: Gallon, remember the days we couldn't catch a punt?
Most Improved: How about Lewan? Remember all those penalties he used to make? I think BWC could make a run at this too if he continues to impact games like the last couple weeks.
Most importantly: Hoke...they are buying in. The team is speaking as one. There doesn't appear to be any internal friction (well, duh, we're winning), but the players are whole-heartedly believing now.
|4 years 5 days ago||OSU should always lose...||
I always cheer for OSU to lose. By a lot. As in, if they lost 100-0, I would wonder why the opposing coach didn't run up the score more. They can never be embarrassed enough after the hypocrisy of the last few months and the cheating coming out from down South.
|4 years 5 days ago||Yeah, I can picture it now...||
"Live from the tennis courts at East Lansing...it's college gameday!"
HA! There's nothing to see there, good choice going to Eugene.
|4 years 5 days ago||Basically a pick-em, plus home field advantage...||
I wonder if the noon start will help or hurt us in the long run. Seems like we should be used to playing early by now, not sure about MSU.
|4 years 5 days ago||Gotta start fast...||
This team will be amped and ready to go, we just can't turn the ball over first half. Stay within one score going into half, and the way we've played second half so far, we'll be strong.
|4 years 5 days ago||Maize.||
It's beautiful, plain and simple.
|4 years 5 days ago||Probably noon.||
It also gets really cold at night for 3:30 starts, which may be a consideration, especially in AA.
|4 years 5 days ago||Too hard to predict, but...||
it's safe to say that we will probably win more games than everyone thought August 1st. The BiG is just so weak, to say the least. We'll learn a lot about Illinois the next couple weeks, and if we don't turn the ball over, we should be really competitive in East Lansing. Hold on to the ball!
|4 years 5 days ago||We still need to beat them...||
psychological edge still has to be in their favor somewhat, as we simply haven't won for too long (duh) and they will be amped for the game. not taking anything for granted, especially if we have a good record and this is their chance to ruin our season.
|4 years 1 week ago||Notable, but not yet excited.||
Narrow it to a top three, then I'll start hoping, or hok-ing.
|4 years 1 week ago||Why not?||
As long as the MMB accompanies it, don't you think the students in band would get a huge kick out of playing for these guys? Maybe not the entire halftime show, but popping out for a surprise number or two. I think it would just be fun...we're trying to break the streak of losing to Ohio, why not break the streak of traditional halftime shows for some good karma?
Plus, it'll be damn cold, and it might get the crowd even more pumped up for the second half (not that we're gonna need it, after all, it's Ohio).
I understand some of the concerns, but it's just music, and it would be cool for most people involved.
|4 years 1 week ago||Oh how the tables are turning...||

2011 ND...the promise of the Hoke era...the Big House on gameday...
|4 years 1 week ago||Do the players look at the spread?||
Just curious, I have no clue. I kind of hope they do, because -5 is great motivation to beat it. Seems low for #12 vs an unranked team, even on the road.
|4 years 1 week ago||I'm just an anxious to see how the team handles a road situation||
What with different routines, travel itineraries, and unfamiliar stadium lights, it could be interesting. Should be a great preparation for MSU (not looking ahead, just saying MSU will be a much nastier environment). Also, I am curious to see what our guys are made of. I want to know if this is like the last few years or not. Looking forward to seeing how the players handle themselves overall, and the coaches control emotions.
|4 years 1 week ago||My opinion...||
(The Pacific Ocean)
We actually have the stronger division I think this year.
|4 years 1 week ago||Wilson will end up in the top 3 of Heisman.||
The BIG is obviously pretty weak, so the numbers will still be there and it would be shocking at this point if Wisconsin lost a game in conference. He does seem to have a certain poise that takes him to the next level. But, he's at his potential, and Denard is still no where near, which is terrifyingly awesome.
|4 years 1 week ago||How can we not believe in Karma?||
Hoke came the exact season Tressel imploded...we are getting better as they lost Pryor and suspended players...we were mostly vindicated by the NCAA and they will most likely not be...
We'll see how classy the hairless nuts stay when they go 6-6 this year, maybe 7-5.
|4 years 1 week ago||Is Romo good or lucky?||
Stafford can't seem to catch a break here
|4 years 1 week ago||IMO, turnovers will determine NW...||
Not saying we need to force any turnovers, but we can't have more than 1 ourselves. NW will need a few breaks to beat us, because we just have better talent and are executing well. Without giving them breaks, we should compete and handle our first road game.
We saw with ND/Floyd that while one player can try, he can't beat us. One player can't win games (unless you are Cam Newton or Denard). Persa will need help from someone, and the NW defense will have to have the game of their lives.
|4 years 1 week ago||still going to be hard to beat them...||
it's a big mental factor as well as physical talent. long way to go before then, that's for sure.
|4 years 1 week ago||let's hope hoke keeps this team in check...||
i think he will, as will the seniors, who haven't experienced a good team in their entire time at michigan.
|4 years 1 week ago||NW first.||
Remember the last few years...one game at a time.
|4 years 1 week ago||the analogy to boise st is good...||
who have they beaten that they deserve such a high ranking? are they even better than michigan? how do we know?
i'm just going to appreciate the ranking for now, because while we may or may not end up this high at the end, the fact is that no one else out there has earned it more than us. it's just true.
|4 years 1 week ago||Execution!||
The game in two weeks is a toss-up...if we come out and execute, we should win, based on talent (and MSU's porous O-line). If not, we could have a lot of turnovers and be in for a long day.
First, let's get through NW. You know they are coached well, and we haven't seen a road game yet. Luckily, the Big Ten schedule sets up so well for us, with the last three games of the year seemingly the hardest, after we've had almost a whole season to get into Hoke/Borges/Mattison efficiency.
|4 years 1 week ago||We're gonna be 12...||
not saying we deserve it, but we are 5-0, and that's what happens. The right teams lost in front of us this week, and Nebraska lost big enough to drop below us. This is slightly terrifying, because looking at the schedule, what game isn't winnable right now?
|4 years 2 weeks ago||a good coach tries to take spotlight off his players||
hence, borges is a good coach.
|4 years 2 weeks ago||we're gonna win this year with DEFENSE||

Denard. On the road. True, 2010 didn't turn out as nicely as 1997, but there aren't too many instances of more dominant individual performances outside of Tom Harmon or Biachabatuka ever.

|4 years 5 weeks ago||I'll take it...||
Definitely going to have to work on some coverage issues this week leading up to ND, and our DBs need to learn to line up right on the first possession of a game. But, can't argue too much when our defense outscores the other team by itself. Hopefully ND's woes and bad luck continue against us!
|4 years 6 weeks ago||From a 4-year cowbeller.....||
the cadences above are basically correct. Do it 3 times + ending for football, 4 times + ending for hockey (in addition to other instances). Hockey is a bit faster than football, but both should be done decently fast...a lot of times people do it way too slow. If you aren't sure though, don't do it. Practice first, it's worth it.
