IDK man, 7-6 might just do it. Think about it- that's either 6-6 and a win in a crappy bowl or 7-5 with a loss in a slightly-better-than-crappy bowl.
The schedule this year looks pretty tough b/c the big 3 are all on the road- but realize that M skips Wisco, Iowa AND Neb from the West division this year. The home schedule is infamously turrible.
M should have a floor of 9-3 this year. 8-4 is worst case scenario.

of course a few guys who could have signed decent minor league developmental contracts go on to play NCAA baseball, but generally that's b/c they value the educational opportunities- which is why it's such a good fit. the purpose of NCAA baseball (and every other sport besides the Big 3) is not 1st and foremost professional development and generally speaking the kids who choose NCAA over available alternatives (CND Major Jr, MLS, mLB) understand that.
|1 week 3 days ago||and almost all of those guys||
and almost all of those guys spent a significant amount of time in the minors before they made it to MLB. that's the point.

What is the purpose for your proposal, in 1-2 sentences? B/c it reads as, "to have NCAA D-I soccer become a pro-development league on par w/ MLS or Euro-academies."
I don't think the NCAA is interested at all in structuring sports for the sole purpose of becoming top developmental leagues for world class atheltics. Basketball and football turned into developmental leagues by circumstance, not design ... and hockey- hell IDK how to explain that.
I think NCAA soccer 'remaining' relevant is a moot point- it's completely irrelevant now on a global skill level at least. It's like NCAA baseball- sure, a few guys can make a jump to MLB, but that's like once in a decade kind of circumstances. NCAA baseball is not a relevant league on a global skill level - but it fills it's niche by taking hard working, well skilled if undersized kids and late bloomer-type kids who want to use what baseball skills they have to gain opportunities ouside of (playing) sports. Sure some very talented kids play in the South/West but primarily mLB developes them, not NCAA. One could argue that it's the same in hockey, but to a lesser extent (more guys go right to the NHL from NCAA, but most still take a year or 2 to develop in the AHL, etc).
The bottom line is, the NCAA doesn't see itself as a pro-developmental sports league (in spite of basketball and football becoming the defacto- developmental leagues). I would say it is right in doing so.

Plus, we've had issues in goal off and on for a decade.
I can't believe M is charging 20% more than the next highest program for student stickets this year with that schedule.

Last year, the hockey/hoops preview got me excited, so without that (and with the malaise, TM) I'm just not that into it.
Plus, I've been getting HTTV and the Wolverine preview for as long as they have existed, and every year I skim more and more and get less and less out of them. I don't want to "get to know" the coaching staff and how much the D will be "more agressive" and teh offense will "man ball" down the field. I can read up on the team thru the site here- I already know the OL is gonna be a disaster and if it's not, I already know it'll be b/c of Nuss's "simplicifcation" and that the inner OL posiitons are more important to the running game. DG is a known comodity at this point and so is Shane Morris. The D returns almost everyone- so the questions are 1) will JMFR's move work out and 2) will a safety step up? I'm sure there will be a dedicated article to Peppers. At this point, I'm in a "show me" sate of mind.
It's nice to have a tactile experience on the beach in Aug, but every year it's more of the same and the result is dissappointment 7/8 years.

|9 weeks 4 days ago||I feel pretty good about the||
I feel pretty good about the losses from this year (relatively). I think the gains will add depth and overall we gain a ton of experience with only 2 outfields and at 1B as losses. return ALL FO THE PITCHING. I'd expect and outright B10 title and 50 wins, with another super regional appearance, but this time in A2.
The outfielders were good OB hitters and speedy- but in '15 I like the best 2 hitters not named Sierra at 1 and 2 in the order, followed by Sierra L and Romo at clean-up. With Romo protecting Sierra L, she should be doing a lot of hitting and with those 2 protecting the 1st 2 hitters, the Sierras should have a lot of hitting w/ RISP.
hopefully the pitching will improve as well

Baserunning mistakes really kill me. It's probably the most overlooked part of the game and the least covered in practices (in relation to hitting & defense). Baserunning hurt the M baseball team the other day and it hurt softball yesterday. As others have said, she needs to read the CF- she was clearly going to need a miraculous play to catch that ball (momentum away from the infield had she caught it) and Romo needed to be in position to score if the ball hit the ground: probably 2-3 steps PAST 2nd.
there was another play where they had a pinch-runner on second with a grounder to her left that went to the CF- that girl needs to have enough speed to scpre there, IMO.

A couple things:
- If you're local to A2, consider WCC- the cost will be WAY less (probably half) and you might find some evening (late afternoon?) courses that fit your schedule a bit better as a HS student.
- if do the UM route, those credits will Xfer anywhere. You're obvsly a fast learner and hard worker being in BC calc as a JR, but UM is a whole different level than AP courses- the structure and contact time is WAY different and the instructor won't be spending a week or 2 on the basics- more like 1-2 lectures. The learning is on you, not the teacher (unlike HS). Short story: Math 215 at UM is what I'd recommend. The honors courses are great, but 215 is a fine course and surely will have more scheduling options.
- contact an advisor, obvs

There is a theory of diminishing returns that basically says it's fairly easy to go from F to C and harder to go from C to A (on the OL in this context).
basically b/c to go from a F to a C, you just need basic competance- and that's not extraordinary to achieve.
but to get to an A, you need all cylindars running to perfection at all times. every little thing needs to be executed at the highest level- takes a lot more effort (for lack of a better word) to get to the very top.
in this way, I could see a decent year this year (9-3, say), but not too much better in '15 (10-2, say)- even with the schedule in our favor in '15. (tho with a preseumed new starter @ QB)
So, would everyone be happy with 9-3 in 2014 (no BT CG appearance), and 10-2 (BT CG appearance) in 2015?

if the running story was from the ESPN broadcasts, well...... they don't know shit about college hockey, to be honest. Now, I could be wrong, but I assume they meant that DIII schools don't give scholarships as a general rule, and that's true AFAIK. HOWEVER, the DIII schools that sponsor DI hockey (LSSU, MTU, Clarkson, Union, Rensselaer, Ferris, CC I think is basically the list) get a special waiver from the NCAA to offer the full s'ships for the DI hockey teams.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||What Union has done these||
What Union has done these last 3-5 years is amazing, considering 1) the location of the school in Schenectady, 2) the arena, and 3) that the school doesn't have a national rep (tho it is a good school) and 4) not a lot of NHL draftees. The current coach is only in his 3rd year, so I don't think he gets 100% of the credit but it's these last 3 years that they've played well deep into April. This team is no Cinderella in teh traditional sense of the term- they have been one of the top 5-10 teams for most of the last 3 years.
Their previous coach went to Providence, which had a good few years too, but this guy is working some magic for the Dutchmen. I thought the days of the small school were over in college hockey about 10 years ago when TV really became a big part of the sport and the big schools poured money into facilities like in Madison, and M-SP, Columbus, etc. Amazing.
As a side note, I'm not sure that they DON'T give our s'ships. the ECAC has several small schools and I'm pretty sure they give out the same as any other program for the hockey teams.

but we got this. our offense won't turn the ball over like yesterday (partly b/c UK doesn't force them). They are missing their best defender and are 90% freshman who haven't seen an offense this effecient and a team who can shoot like M. They don't defend the 3 well, don't have much transition D. typical young team, really. They are talented and will surely have a few OMG plays, but it's not like we haven't seen talented teams before. We can get their collective egos to get in a long range shooting contest at times- but we can do that in the context of the offense, they do it in the context of an all star game. they will have a few transition WOW plays and a few great plays in the paint, but I really think we win by 8+ by getting hot and making a couple 8-0 or 11-2 runs, perhaps spurred by a 1-3-1 phase or two on D.

I think this year's team was decidedly lacking talent, both on the blue line and the forwards. This isn't the Michigan of 3-5 years ago that had healthy scratches of drafted defensemen and a 3rd line that most would ID as a top line. We have one top-level scorer, not much besides that, and 2-3 defensemen. We were 1 win away from the tournament and 3 wins over an awful PSU team from a 2 seed (or a 1?). That's frustrating (and given our start the ending was also frustrutating) but we we'ren't a turrible team this year. Last year was different, but firing this coach after this year would be a bit over the top.

I like it. Texas hasn't been mentioned as a serius contender out of the B12 and Wofford doesn't seem like an upset in the making. Louisville is opposite the 1, so we can't face both.
the truth is, this is a deep field with a thin top. lots of good 4 seeds and 3s also. If we get to the sweet 16, we have to beat someone good. had we gotten the one, we would have UVa's spot: plaing a Carolina team in Carolina and seeing a strong, strong 4 in the next weekend (louisville, as the committee'd avoid the MSU-M Sweet 16 match up). Would you want Duke or Louisville in the S16?
Now, that 8/9 winner is a better 2nd round matchup than we have, but that's what being a #1 is.

You can teach intelligent design without naming the "designer"
Not in a science classroom. Intelligent design is just a name change for creationism. No matter what you call it, it doesn't belong in a science classroom.
and being one of the guys on the Big Bang Theory (which I obviously am not and don't claim to be)
I was one of those guys on BBT. Now I teach. I don't know as much about evolution compared to BBT. Nonetheless, I am very confident in saying 2 things:
I'll have to look into your angular momentum information.
you do that. may I suggest:
you may want to do backgroud research on moments (rotational inertia), torque and angular velocity all of which can be found at that site.
I could list many names of great scientific pioneers whose Christian beliefs did not preclude them from making some of the greatest discoveries in the history of man.
No one would dispute this. As I mentioned in this thread somewhere else: NOT all religious/devout people attack science, but ALL people who attack science are religious/devout. And they aren't attacking just any/all science, just the parts that make them feel "squishy" about their faith. Not gravity, but biological evolution via natural selection. Not cancer, or quantum theory, but BBT.
I have never seen any science that has interfered with the narrative of my religion,
could have fooled me. it sounds like BBT and evolution via natural selection seem to slightly interfere.
|20 weeks 2 days ago||why don't all the celestial||
why don't all the celestial bodies spin in the same direction?
this is why I assume you don't have a science background. you don't demonstrate any knowledge [edit: no, it's reall UNDERSTANDING] of the science behind the Big Bang or evolution. Assuming that an infinitecimal singularity whose initial composition is all energy and no matter would be spinning (which is a big assumption), as the universe expanded, the rotation rate would actually slow down (for the same reason that a figure skater slows down when their arms extend). Now, assuming a finite initial rotation speed, and the amount the universe has expanded since then (essentially infinity), it's no surprise that we don't observe rotation: it would be so close to zero that we likely couldn't observe it. Not to mention, that local gravitational influences cause torques that can change the amount of anular momentum an individual local system would have. In addition, angular momentum is a vector, so the DIRECTION of an objects spin (Counter clockwise, say) can cancel out the ang. mom. of a clockwise spinning object- resulting in a net ang mom of zero. So even if the ang mom of the universe has to be constant, individual objects within the system can spin in opposite directions to produce a net ang mom of zero. This angular momentum arguement is one of the more sophistic arguments I've read from creationists. Looks like you've been reading a lot of Ray Comfort literature. I mean, are we gonna argue that bananas were perfectly designed by god to fit into the hands of humans next? well, there goes evolution theory, everyone.
I accept most of science as fact
Sure, as long as it doesn't interfere with the narrivite as described in your religion.

|20 weeks 2 days ago||http://www.talkorigins.org/fa||
it's incredibly frustrating when people who have absolutely no fucking idea about how science works or how evolution works basically say, "teach all the alternatives." that's just stupid. I have an alternative theory of gravity: you see, I think magic pixies drag all objects to the ground. Shall we teach the magic pixies theory of gravity to everyone in elementary school & HS too? It's only fair, afterall. I mean, if newtonian gravity theory is really so superior, let it rise to the top in schools. Hey, here's another idea: let's teach the alternative to D=M/V (I call it the "witch theory"). You see, my theory on density is that witches float because they have renounced baptism when entering the Devil's service. If you sink, you're innocent. if you float, you're a witch and shall be burned. I mean, if D=M/V is such a solid theory, then all the kids will clearly see that if we teach both theories.
Let's switch shoes for a moment. Imagine if I were harping on trying to get people to teach something in your sunday school at church/mosk/temple. Would you enjoy me coming in to your church and teaching against the fundamental tenents of your religion? Consider, I don't even know much about your religion- I'm sure I'm almost totally ignorant of it in fact.
Here's a deal I'm willing to strike: How about I stay out of your church and you stay out of my science classroom. Neither of us have a leg to stand on in the other's area, so let's agree to that. I'm in. Let's do it.
And I'm not ridiculing you, I'm ridculing a belief. laughable beliefs like pixies and witch density and creationism should be ridiculed, not respected. people should be respected, not beliefs. beliefs should be questioned & held to an evidentiary standard.
|20 weeks 2 days ago||well again, DM can be||
well again, DM can be measured thru it's gravitational influence only.
Similar for DE, tho it has been a few years since I've read about the details.
I don't know if it's reasonable to doubt theories b/c past theories are often wrong. much of the time the theories are amended based on new evidence. Certainly, electron theory, QM, evolution, gravity shouldn't be doubted b/c humans have been wrong in the past. Hell, we can't directly observe electrons (recent advances in technology the last few months to a year may have changed this, but IDK), yet our theory of electrons and atomic & molecular interactions works pretty damn well. So, just b/c we can't physically see it or measure it doesn't mean the theory should be doubted.
I suppose the order of magnitude needs to be greater than 50 for your hypothesis to work. the problem is, there isn't any evidence to support it and there's no way to test the hypothesis that I could think of (in less than 5mins anyway).
I also think you've got a misconception about the DM/DE theory. no one's "trying to make sure our equations remain correct." In every other application of the laws of physics, they do work. So we have 2 possibilities: 1) all the equations work in every observed experiment we've ever done, except at the galactic scale. 2) there is some form of matter that we heretofor could not detect b/c it apparently doesn't interact with photons in any way.
now, given the fact that a) there's no evidence and thus no legitimate reason to believe that the laws/equations of physics and chem wouldn't work at large scales and b) the DM theory seems to explain, at the very least, 1) Galactic rotations curves, 2) gravitational lensing, 3) the timescale for and structure of formation of galaxies and superclusters of galaxies on the largest scales, CMB power spectra, and standard candle supernovae confirmation of the Lambda-CDM model of the universe, I'd say DM theory has a pretty decent leg to stand on.
|20 weeks 3 days ago||have you ever watched CSI? It||
have you ever watched CSI? It is possible to solve a crime without having to literally witness it in real time. That's precisely what scientists do in Astrophysics.
Why not doubt our estimates for the mass of the sun? We can't run out to the sun with a bathroom scale and weigh it. You tell me why you're so confident about the mass of the sun, but not the larger scale masses of galaxies or super clusters. And don't play scale here either, boss: the masses of stars are ~ 30 orders of magnitude greater than what we can "tangibly measure."
How about the temperature of the Sun? we have very accurate values for surface and internal temperatures of the sun which are 3-6 orders of magnitude greater than temps "tangibly measured" on Earth.
How about ages of the stars? You have to doubt that too, since we can't sit around and wait for a sun-like star to first be born, migrate to the main sequence, migrate off the main sequence, go nova and eventually EVOLVE into a white dwarf.
Even better: intrinsic brightness (luminosity) of stars? those are 40-50 (!!!!) orders of magnitude greater than what we can "tangibly measure" on Earth.
I guess it's more plausible to 'expect' that the laws of the universe just work differently at +x orders of magnitude. Heck, why not? the conventional laws don't work at 10-30 orders of magnitude smaller (quantum scales). Oh wait, I do know why not. There isn't evidence to support that hypothesis. Look you're a good dude, and seem knowledgeble, but you're essentially calling into doubt 90+% of astronomy and astrophysics, with no data, observations or any reason to do so other than a 'gut feeling' or some such, I guess. But hey, you could be right.

you're not understanding the difference b/t a hypothesis (closer to an opinion) and a theory. Hypotheses can be invalid based on one piece of counter evidence- theories can not b/c they have mountains of evidence, predicted observations, and experiment in support of them. Generally, it would take more than one single piece of data to counterbalance the evidence in support of evolution.
