I think Michigan can win any of its remaining games. I also think it can lose several of the remaining games. Until Denard poses a real passing threat, it's hard to imagine the Maize and Blue winning the LEGENDS division.
I am pleasantly surprised by the defense.
|2 years 36 weeks ago||Birthday present||
So I am turning 30 tomorrow. I would love a national championship as a present.
|2 years 41 weeks ago||Not mutually exclusive||
I would love for the good guys to go into the season ranked and still gain respect through their play. Wouldn't it be nice for the team to be hyped and actually perform in accordance with that hype?
I agree, though, that the prseason rankings are meaningless, other than potentially framing a season-long discussion of seeding (or epic failure).
|2 years 47 weeks ago||Adaptation||
I can't believe I'm bringing this up, but does everyone remember the 2008 Capital One Bowl? DeBoard brought out a swanky new offense that left me (and I assume many other fans) wondering where the hell that was the last x years. It was awesome.
Granted, this offense was just for one game, but if DeBoard can adapt, I'm willing to believe that Borges can at least tweak.
|2 years 48 weeks ago||Not incompatible||
It's okay to be less than enthused with the hire of Hoke and still wish Hoke every bit of success. Given DB's comments, this hire is puzzling. It concerns me that this was the best Michigan could get. But I'll be cheering as loudly as ever come early September, regardless of who is at the helm.
|3 years 3 weeks ago||Blame Barwis?||
I'm trying to figure out what Barwis & Co. could do to prevent concussion "like" injuries. Also, I don't care how strong you are, if a joint gets hit just right, there's going to be an injury.
But, I forgot- the earthquake in Haiti and North Korea shelling the South are also RR's fault.
|3 years 3 weeks ago||Well said||
I am looking forward to DB's decision (regardless of what it is) just so this incessant prognostication will stop.
Of course, then we'll have to hear the insufferable voices from either the empire or the rebels complaining about that decision.
Here's hoping for a good game on Saturday. Go Blue.

If Tressel shuts him up, then we lose some good laughs. I say, keep Pryor unplugged.
|3 years 5 weeks ago||Hail to the Victors.||
That is all.
|3 years 7 weeks ago||My problem||
My problem with tonight's game is the complete lack of improvement by the defense. Honestly, this team makes me feel like a little kid whose absent father keeps telling me he'll come to my next ball game, but inevitably doesn't show up. I still love the team, but it really hurts to keep watching.
|3 years 7 weeks ago||Maisel v. CFN||
I like IM pretty well, detest Schlabach and Forde. I know we at mgoblog generally dislike College Football News, but they had a great line in the prediction for the game this weekend:
Sometimes even the cretins get things right. Go Blue.
|3 years 8 weeks ago||THE KNOWLEDGE||
What does THE KNOWLEDGE say about the outcome?
|3 years 8 weeks ago||Depends||
This strategy depends on how many FAKES the freshman credit cards pulled in the 40.
|3 years 8 weeks ago||Thank you||
I like your post, as it is a good reminder that there is a distinct difference between a sports rivalry and the merit of individual persons.
As a general rule, I dislike OSU fans, but primarily because they are quick to talk shit. They probably feel the same way about UM fans.
|3 years 8 weeks ago||Don't care||
I just want him to help the team win more games, and to limit the terrible interceptions. If he is still in the Heisman race after that, then that's just peaches.
|3 years 9 weeks ago||Great work, Brian.||
I've also noticed that you don't do Vicious Electronic Questioning anymore. I assume VEQ is a victim of mgoblog's success, but I really miss it!
I don't know what to expect tomorrow. The D is terrible. If Denard doesn't do whatever that was last weekend, it should be a great game.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Not bad||
Learned a decent amount about MSU, so it was interesting in that regard. It's got nothing on Brian's preview, though.
The whole thing seems about as reasonable a prediction as any. Hopefully the boys prove Brian right and RCMB wrong.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Same division||
For the longest time, I was really upset about splitting up OSU and Michigan and moving The Game. I am still unhappy about the prospect, but my anger is starting to dissipitate.
If the Big Ten really goes to 9 conference games, then there is a good likelihood that the championship game will be a rematch of some sort. In that scenario, would it be better to play OSU for the championship (albeit twice), or some other team, like Penn State? I am not sure what I would prefer anymore...
|3 years 15 weeks ago||The Herbies||
I like Herbie. He does a good job calling games and, I think, is pretty impartial in his analysis of teams. He seems to think highly of OSU (big surprise), but OSU has been really damn good over the past 7 years. Despite that, he can still look at OSU relatively impartially.
He has unbridled affection for Columbus and OSU in his columns. So what? A column is simply a matter of opinion. I doubt anyone here would look at the editorial pages of the New York Times or Wall Street Journal and treat those as assertions of fact.
Let's hope the Maize and Blue surprise some people this year and garner some post-season love. I think you'll note that Herbie listed Michigan as one of five teams on the rise, so it's not like he's dismissed Michigan out of hand.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Bruce||
has always been pretty fair in his evaluations of Michigan. I also like his chats on espn.com, he is a lot of fun and has good insight.
Here's hoping his hunch is correct. Go Blue!
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Unreasonable?||
With all the question marks surrounding the team, particularly on defense, is CFN's prediction really that unreasonable? I sure as hell hope it's wrong, but right now, I don't begrudge anyone who picks UCONN.
|3 years 16 weeks ago||Stand if possible||
but be considerate. Also, try to encourage those around you to stand and scream their heads off.
|3 years 16 weeks ago||ND with my brother||
My brother (both brothers acutally) went to Notre Dame. Every year, we bet on the game. The loser buys the winner a bottle of Woodford Reserve bourbon. We also have a traveling trophy, which is an empty 1.5 liter Woodfor bottle. On the backside of the bottle, we write the year and score of the game.
Last year, my brother told me the liquor store was out of Woodford and bought me a bottle of Bulleit instead. Not bad, but hopefully this year, the boys win a bottle of Woodford for me.
|3 years 17 weeks ago||Genius.||

Why risk injuring our other QB? Unless DG is ready to step in, this would be a horrible idea, and even then, it still is inadvisable.

Your post does not state whether this woman gives a rat's ass about football (I assume she does). If she doesn't give a shit about tOSU, then who cares? If she does, then your friend is a real chode.
|3 years 18 weeks ago||My seats||
My seats are the best (feel free to buy my tickets!). I'm in Corner 17, row 92. It's high up, but it has a good view of the entire field.
As a senior, I stood in Row B. It was awesome because we were right by the field (and after the heroic victory against Washington - yes, Huskies lick their balls - the team was fiving all of us in the first few rows). But, I could not see the far end of the field worth a lick. You're better off sitting a bit higher where you can see the whole field.

|3 years 19 weeks ago||A Purdue grad's perspective on OLS||
So I wanted to know what OLS was like at Purdue. I emailed a buddy of mine who is a proud Purdue grad to ask what it was all about. His response:
EDIT: I did not see the Purdue student's explanation before I posted this. Seems pretty consistent.
|3 years 19 weeks ago||Hope.||
Dantonio is a douche, but he's more of a reflection of the university he represents. State has a huge chip on its shoulder with respect to U of M, and Dantonio plays to that.
Hope, on the other hand, is a complete asshat. Calling out RR was one thing, but then bringing his player over for the handshake showed his total lack of class. In his free time, he probably punches kittens and yells at babies.
|3 years 19 weeks ago||Decent||
I thought the preview was pretty decent and had fairly solid analysis. Let's hope that the team exceeds BHGP's (and most folks') expectations.
|3 years 20 weeks ago||'06 Notre Dame||
The '06 ND game was one of the greatest moments of my Michigan fandom. Even my wife (who did not go to U of M) loved that game and to this day laughs about a screen shot of Brady Quinn pouting like a bitch on the sideline.
It didn't hurt that my two younger brothers went to ND and the youngest, who was a sophomore at the time, called me before the game to ask me why I would even bother watching. Awesome.
|3 years 20 weeks ago||Loud||
I was in Row B of the student section at that game, and that was easily the loudest I can recall the Big House ever getting.

|3 years 29 weeks ago||Impressed||
This is awesome. I'm too intimidated (and lack the knowledge) to play, but this is a great idea.
|3 years 29 weeks ago||Wendy said it best||
Set some boundaries. My wife knows I wouldn't go see shit like this (she wouldn't either), but she unfortunately likes Twilight. She asked if we could put the second Twilight movie on our Netflix queue, to which I said, "hell no". She then promised to watch it when I'm not home, so I thought that was a decent compromise.
Of course, my wife gets more excited about Michigan football games than I do, so maybe I'm just lucky.

Westvleteren 12, a Trappist ale from Belgium.
It is almost impossible to find in the U.S., and it will run you about $10 for one 12 oz. bottle, but it is worth it. I would pay $30 for a bottle, it is that good.

Excellent Karate Kid reset.
|4 years 19 weeks ago||Not so bad considering||
Given that this guy is not a Michigan fan or blogger, this wasn't a terrible post. A lot of it strikes us, who live and breathe Michigan football, as wrong, but that does not mean his entire post is crap.
I was suspicious when he said he'd have fired RR. That's silly. As was the assertion that Michigan was loaded with talent. As has been said above, talent without experience is meaningless.
But let's be honest- what do we know about Purdue's squad? Most of that information would be gotten from easily accessible sources, such as ESPN. Could this guy have done more homework? Sure. Was this a completely ignorant, poorly written post? No.
What matters is that he got the result right- so let's hope the Maize and Blue delivers.
|4 years 19 weeks ago||Wherever he goes, I wish this||
Wherever he goes, I wish this kid well. He sounds like the kind of player any team should want.
|4 years 20 weeks ago||2006 ND||
My favorite blowout was also the 2006 ND game. I specifically remember: Brady Quinn looking like he was going to cry because he played so terrible; Shawn Crable destroying Brady Quinn; and the stunned look of 80,000 fans as Manningham pulled in the first Henne bomb for a touchdown.
Add all of this to the fact that it was a total slap in the face to Weis E. Coyote, and that was the most gratifying blowout I have witnessed.
|4 years 21 weeks ago||2002 Michigan/Washington||
Echoed. The student section was so loud that day I couldn't hear myself screaming.
|4 years 21 weeks ago||Who are our biggest rivals?||
I think rivals are defined as "circle the date" games, regardless of how the teams perform that year.
My personal take as to Michigan's chief rivals:
1) Ohio State
What do you guys think?
|4 years 21 weeks ago||So what?||
Since when does close games indicate that a particular opponent is a rival? As I see it, MSU is, at best, number 3 on Michigan's totem pole (although Michigan is #1 on MSU's). I think it's safe to say UM and OSU are number 1 on each other's- hence rivals.
|4 years 22 weeks ago||Indiana||
I've only been to an away game at Indiana, back in 2006. There were a lot of Michigan fans, and the tailgating was surprisingly enjoyable. Bloomington is not the most exciting place, but the people are pretty friendly, and there are some decent bars.
IU is redoing its stadium, so the gameday experience may be a bit improved, although I would be pretty surprised. I would definitely not put this game at the top of your list.
|4 years 22 weeks ago||Lighten up.||
Everyone needs to chill out. BlueFront's post smells of hearsay and of dubious quality. That does not take away from the bigger question of how we want our coaches representing the University off the football field. Just as I suspect we all want Coach Rod to represent Michigan with class, shouldn't we all show some class to? Attack the arguments, not the person.
|4 years 40 weeks ago||Who cares?||
I'm just excited they're in. Anything beyond that is gravy.
|4 years 49 weeks ago||Homer||
Schlabach is an unabashed SEC homer, whose analysis is more often than not quite weak. I quit reading his columns last summer when it became apparent that he has no real valuable insight.
|5 years 13 weeks ago||Extension!||
Given last week's precedent, it's time to give Stewart a contract extension!
|5 years 13 weeks ago||Well said.||
My two younger brothers are ND alums, so the loss was especially painful for me. However, I am encouraged by the team's improvement (minus the fumbles, obviously).
I thought the team moved the ball very well. Although the first INT wasn't Sheridan's fault, I think that Threet needs to be the QB. Threet was decisive and, for the most part, made good decisions. If Michigan eliminate those fumbles, it wins this game.
The defense was harmed by one bad pass interference call, which led to a long touchdown. If you take out the idiotic fumbles and the incompetent officiating, Michigan wins by 10.
I believe that if Michigan can continue to improve as it did yesterday, it can make some noise this year and maybe even make a bowl. Next year, the team could even challenge for the Big 10. I am excited. Go Blue.
|5 years 14 weeks ago||Well said||
However, since this is Michigan, a certain excellence is demanded and expected. I think Brian's point is that we should not be satisfied with, let's admit it, a sub-par performance.
Where I disagree with Brian is that the chant is a good bolster to the team still struggling to find its way, and at this point, the team needs all the support it can get.
|5 years 18 weeks ago||SI?!||
Sports Illustrated is a garbage publication and always has inane picks. I do not anticipate that UM will be world-beaters, but 5-7 seems overly pessimistic.
|5 years 19 weeks ago||No 2006 UM-OSU?||
That game was awesome, even if the good guys lost.
|5 years 19 weeks ago||Who cares?||As long as Coach Rod believes in the guys he's recruiting, we should be fine. Who cares about the recruiting rankings? Last time I checked, they aren't what win championships.|
|5 years 20 weeks ago||Great Idea||
My top five would be:
1. Notre Dame. Huge superiority complex without the superiority. Jimmy Clausen. NBC.
2. Wisconsin. They load up on cupcake games. Ron Dayne. The "jump around". Their fans are insufferable, particularly because none actually attended UW.
3. OSU. I'm from Ohio. I respect the program. I want them 11-0 before Michigan beats them. But I'm tired of losing to them. Their fans are classless. None of the fans went to OSU. Troy Smith.
4. Texas. Vince Young. White see-through pants. Vince Young. Mack Brown. Vince Young.
5. Tennessee. I live in Tennessee. The uniforms could be mistaken for prison-issue garb. Rocky Top. The fans didn't go to college and probably can't read. The Clausens. The Citrus Bowl.
|5 years 21 weeks ago||Outstanding.||I want to send this to all of my relatives who went to MSU.|
