I hope U-M makes an effort to keep playing the non B1G Michigan teams. I seem to recall reading that NMU wanted to keep playing U-M, but only if Michigan was also willing to play in Marquette (ie. No payday games in Ann Arbor). I wonder if any of the other Michigan schools have taken that stance. |
| 8 weeks 6 days ago | NOT a good year for me so |
NOT a good year for me so far.
16-16 headed into the weekend. 5 elite eight teams left 3 final four teams left. On the upside, I picked FGCU and Ole Miss. I almost looked awesome with Southern, but stupid Gonzaga had to win. |
| 9 weeks 4 days ago | Oh, I'm well aware. This |
Oh, I'm well aware. This bracket methodology is probably the only thing my History degree has been useful far. |
| 9 weeks 4 days ago | I started doing brakets |
I started doing brakets before I really started following college basketball because my friends were doing a pool and I decided to get in on it. Of course, I knew nothing beyond how teams were seeded and I didn't want to go with that, so I developed my own personal mascot challenge system. I choose every games based on which mascot would win in a fight. Sometimes it's obvious (eg. a Wolverine beats a jackrabbit 10 times out of 10) but sometimes it gets interesting and you have to do some reasearch. Does a Spartan beat a Trojan (yes. A Spartan would never fall for the old wooden horse trick) Does a commodore beat a boilermaker (again, yes. Presumably the commodore has a fleet, or at least a warship , at his disposal. The Boilermaker just has a train.) I haven't done my bracket yet this year, so I haven't had a chance to look at any particularly interesting matchups, but if you need help deciding a game, I suggest using the mascot method. |

I can't speak for most of these arenas, but I thought the write up on the Berry at NMU was pretty much spot on. I grew up going to games at the old Lakeview Arena and then the Berry and always had a great time. Also, Marquette is great and everyone should visit.
Seriously, bring us your tourism dollars. |

Yep. Pretty telling that half of the elite 8 teams are from the B1G (Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State and Nebraska). Too bad PSU and Minny have to play each other so there's not the potential for an all B1G Final Four. |

| 44 weeks 1 day ago | I know you specifically |
I know you specifically mentioned hand rolled, but I'm going to completely ignore that and suggest http://international.villiger-cigars.de/en/round-and-pressed.html . Specifically the box pressed, maduro variety.
I have very little experince with cigarillos or flavored cigars, but those little Villigers cheap and a really excellent short smoke. |
| 44 weeks 1 day ago | Take it from me, I'm a tobacconist. |
If the price of the cigar seems too good to be true, it (of course) is. It's not at all un-common for people/stores to put fake bands on cigars and Cuban in order to prey on American tourists. If you do decide to buy them find a reputable business to purchase them from, avoid anything too touristy. If you're not willing to pay a decent amount, there's no reason to get Cubans because you'll just be paying a premium for the country of origin.
Now, if you're looking to get some Cubans just for the novelty of it, go for it. If you're expecting them to be miles ahead of what you can get in the US, don't waste your time. Yeah, a good Cuban Cohiba or Montecristo will probably be great, but it's going to cost the same or (more likely) more than an equally good, if not better cigar from Nicaragua or the Dominican Republic.
As to sneaking them back into the US I have no suggestions. I know people who have had no problems at all, and I know people who have had them confiscated, more often than not people seemt to bring them back without too much trouble. Putting them in a checked bag seems to be the easiest way. However, you should know that maintaining good humidity and temperature is crucial to keeping the cigars in good quality (70 farenheit at 70% humidity is a good rule of thumb) and maintaining this in the cargo hold of an airplane is quite difficult.
My advice? Buy a good Montecristo or Cohiba in Brazil and smoke them with a great cup of coffee. Then come back to the US and buy an Opus X or a good Padron (like the 1964 or 80th anniversario). Even better, find your local tobacconist and talk to him about what's good that he has in stock. [Time for a shameless plug->] If you're in Ann Arbor, come to Maison-Edwards and we'll get you situated. |

If im lebron i leave cleveland too, "the decision" was overboard but it did raise 2.5 million dollars for the boys and girls club. He said all along it was all about winning and in the end he went to the team that he felt gave him the best chance to do that. The fans in Cleveland need to get over the feeling of betrayal, he was a free agent and he did'n't owe anything to the fans just for the fact that he is from Ohio. Gilberts letter even furthers my point, maybe this rage is not so out of character for gilbert, and if thats the case he is really the one with no class and i cant blame lebron for not wanting to play for him. |

We didn't just say "no you can't use it". They were looking for the drill charts from pyware, software used to design halftime shows. (In fact, if you go to www.pyware.com you can see them bragging about pyware being used to design the marching band segments in NCAA football 10.) Anyway, the MMB's pregame routine predates these programs and we don't use them for it. In fact, the pregame we do now is somewhat different from the pen-and-paper drill charts, because little changes from season to season have accumulated and never been recorded, everyone just knows how it's currently done. This cause some consternation when we got a new band director in '07 who was trying to read the pregame drill off of the charts and everyone in the band knew it differently. |

Also, we have a much larger pool of students to draw from, so it's more competitive. The music program at NMU is nothing special. I didn't see anything terribly bad last night. However, I did have a kid (probably 19-20) come into where I was working at 10:30am who was already QUITE sauced and looked like he was ready to puke. Everyone in the store was giving him a wide berth because they all saw it coming too. Fortunately he didn't and we all got to laugh at him as he tripped/stumbled walking out the door. I know seeing a drunk on St. Patrick's day isn't impressive, but I thought that the degree to which this kid was drunk at that hour was notable. EDIT: I take all that back. This video was the worst thing I saw. These guys suck. |

Yeah, I don't know how much your son is really going to learn at the camp, but it would almost certainly be a great experience for him. My brother (is a traitorous swine) went to MSU's basketball camp this summer and absolutely had a fantastic time. I know he really enjoyed getting to stay in the dorms, meet players and coaches and play in the Breslin Center. Now I just need to convince him to come to M's basketball camp, he has a good "white guy with good fundamentals and grit" background. So, yeah, if it's economically feasible I say it's probably worth it to send him. |

| 3 years 16 weeks ago | I can't believe I neglected |
I can't believe I neglected to mention my absolute favorite book. Earth Abides by George R. Stewart - Written in 1949 (or thereabouts) it chronicles the fall of civilization when almost everyone is killed by a virus (swine flu style) and then it follows as the main character finds the few survivors in the San Fransisco area and they attempt to build a society of their own. I think it's absolutely necessary if you consider yourself a fan of science fiction, but even if you're not it's a great read. |

I would suggest "The Soviet Experiment" By Ronald G Suny. He's a professor here and I just took his course on the Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union and (of course) we read his book. The majority of the book deals with the Soviet Union, but the last few chapters are about Post-Soviet Russia. Still, I highly recommend the book. |
| 3 years 16 weeks ago | I didn't actually read |
I didn't actually read everyone's additions, but there's one series that my conscience requires that I post. A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin Four huge books (They average around 1000 pages each, with at least three more on the way. They're technically fantasy, but have a lot more to do with political intrigue and conflict than they do with magic. A word of warning, though: Martin is a notoriously slow writer, so there's a good chance that you'll get caught up and then wait for 3-5 years for the next book like I did. Other good books of note: Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons (he does horror as well as Stephen King. Some might even say better.) Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond (An absolutely enlightening read dealing with the "fates of human societies" and why different cultures developed how they did.) |

| 3 years 17 weeks ago | Great timing! I've been |
Great timing! I've been playing for the last 5 hours, and just thought I'd check here before bed. Take it from me. As someone who has played BG, BGII (Still my favorite game of all time), Neverwinter Nights, KoTOR, KoTOR 2, Jade Empire and Mass Effect, I can confidently say that I LOVE DA:O. It is definitely worth the money/time investment. I'm currently on my second playthrough. My first time I pretty much stuck to the main storyline (which is great) and and I still had less than 50% of game content unlocked. This time I'm going for 100% (or as near to it as I can get.) I don't recall how many hours it was, but it took a bit longer than a week of playing every day to get it wrapped up. Another thing I enjoyed is that there are a lot of little references to Bioware's previous games, especially BGII. You can see a list here, but there may be spoilers. Fair warning. |
| 3 years 17 weeks ago | One of the nice things about |
One of the nice things about DA:O is that it gives you a couple of options on how to fight. You can play in a real time, over-the-shoulder environment (ie. World of Warcraft, Fallout 3 or KoTor) or you can play from a top down/isometric viewpoint like (Baldur's Gate or the original Fallout games.) I find that I tend to play with the over the shoulder view when moving around, talking to people, etc. But when combat starts I zoom out to the top-down view. I think it makes combat much more fun. You can also set the game to auto pause during combat so you can get all your tactics set up just right, or you can wing it and just pause when you need to. |

They've got 36 varsity teams, and are typically pretty good in hockey and Basketball (which as been mentioned) they're a major Lacrosse power and they've got solid rowing, volleyball, softball and wrestling programs. Cornell would probably be a solid contributor in just about everything except football, which for better or worse is pretty much a deal breaker. Something that was mentioned in OP's link was that Cornell has a very "Big Ten" feel on campus. I totally agree. My step father worked there, and every time I've been out to Ithaca to see him I've been strongly reminded of Ann Arbor. |
