|1 week 3 days ago||I have one||
I bet no one has ever done or thought of this before. 1)mTake the cell phone out of his pocket, 2) dial 911, 3) tell PA State Police that he witnessed a rape.
|1 week 4 days ago||Sorry||
I had an over-seas conference call late last night.
1) Tigers at 5
2) Tied at 4 are Bulldogs and Wildcats.
|1 week 4 days ago||You are correct good sir||
typo on my part. Thanks for pointing that out. All 7 of our runs were earned as well.
BTW: No one caught my little play on words in the OP. Utah Valley is called the Wolverines as well. There are only 2 D1 schools with that Nickname.
|1 week 4 days ago||Hi MGoBrewMom||
I will not be in SoCal this weekend. Actually I am heading to Atlanta to catch the ND vs GT game either Friday or Saturday. My daughter is a weatherperson for the USAF at Warner Robbins so I will stop and say hi to her as well.
Are you going to be there? If so, can you take some pics for us?
|1 week 4 days ago||This is great||
Izzo is finally getting exposed. I do agree that he runs a clean program so I will give him props for that. However, he is certainly exposed for his coaching ability. Why would a coach stick with Appling when he obviously is not performing.
The RCMB is blowing up because we are better than msu is. They are starting to blame Izzo for msu's woes. Some are even calling for him to leave. The msu fanbase is in a free-fall. They think that msu should win the B1G Title every year.
|1 week 6 days ago||It certainly||
is great. I am proud that Michigan is MY school.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||I would not like any||
Friday Night Games for us. If some of the others want to try it them so be it. I am just old school for November games. Bo was right about this one.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Her speed will||
be her greatest asset. This kid can flat-out fly. I look for her to lead-off next year. I think we have another Bree Evans in the waiting here.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I had||
the pleasure to watch Megan during Fall-Ball. I though to myself, "She is going to be really good in a year or two". Now I am sure my statement will prove out to be true; however, I may not have expected it this soon in her career.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I would not||
call 6 out of the last 8 much of a rivalry. We own staee. Now lets get on to the Tourney and have a deep run and get on to Spring Practice to kick their ass in the fall.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||HAIL Yes||
we own it.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I certainly will||
I gave my sparty friends props for winning the Rose Bowl for the first time in 3000 years. But do you think they will give us credit? I am not expecting any but I sure will rub their noses in my waste.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Izzo got outcoached||

|2 weeks 6 days ago||So far||
Haylie is dominating the Cats 2-0 and allowing only 1 hit.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||It was a good day||
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Thanks||
for the post and pic. Congrats to Charlie and Meryl. True Michigan Men and woMen. It great to be a Michigan Wolverine.
I am sure DB will find a way to make the Charlie and Meryl Scholarship fund for anyone who at 5 years old, wanted to be an Olympic Athelete. I cant wait until Appy St. to see them at Half Time.
Go Blue and Bring Gold
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I had her down for the||
RBI for the bases loaded BB. We were down 4-2 at that point. Colie's walk made it 4-3. Romo's single plus the error scored 3 runs for the 6-4 lead. I did not mention Colie's 2 out walk although it was very important. I will make sure to mention something like this in the future.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I personally do not like||
to call out players for making errors. It is my personal preference. I have not and will not EVER publish the name of any player who makes a mistake. Its a softball thing I guess.
When the team wins, the players get the credit. When the team loses, the coach gets the blame. It is the coaches responsibility to prepare the team and scout the opposing team to formulate a strategy.
One of my former assistant coaches could not grasp this concept. In one game, we needed a bunt, the girl at bat was a poor bunter (10% success rate). He was coaching 3rd base and I told him to give the batter the swing away. He gave her the bunt sign and she failed. After I asked him why did he do that when he knew she could not bunt well? His reply was simple, "She has to do what I tell her to do and if she doesnt, then its her fault not mine. She should know how to bunt"
I laughed at him because I could not help myself. If the girl does not know how to bunt, by giving her the bunt sign isnt going to make her enlightened to bunt perfectly. We lost out on a good opportunity to score and win but he just did not understand basic statistics and elite Coaching. It was the Coaching Staffs fault that the girl could not bunt, not hers.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||@Trueblue and @snowcrash||
Sara is an All-American Pitcher. Is she Jordan Taylor elite yet? Well I think so but others may disagree. Throughout her career, Sara has been a slow-starter. Each of the past 2 years there has been at least 2 games where we had a lead and Sara took the loss.
Now some of this is simply the batters getting used to her pitching style on the third time through. Sometimes it is a simple defensive error that starts a snowball effect. I cannot explain it and I have contemplated doing a PhD on why softball players "fall apart" after a simple error as compared to baseball. I do not understand why this is. I have seen it on more than one occassion per year in all my years of softball coaching.
Some can question; "if Sara is prone to having a poor last inning, why keep her in the game?" This is a legitimate question for those that do not truly understand softball. I have had this same argument with some former assistant coaches in the past who just cannot grasp the concept. If a pitcher is hitting her spots, turning the ball over correctly, and her mechanics are all good; why take her out? She is doing what she is supposed to do. If the batters get hot, or the defense makes an error, why penalize the pitcher?
I had an arguement with a former assistant coach several years ago. We were in the State Finals Tournament. My pitcher was pitching a very good game and we were winning going into the bottom of the 7th. The wheels came off and my assistant coach was angry with me because I did not pull the pticher. The #2 pitcher was injured but could pitch some. My #1 was hitting her spots, her ball to strike ratio was even getting better, and her velocity was not dropping. The batters were just getting hot. We ended up loosing the game and the coach blamed it on the pitcher and me for not pulling her.
Years ago, softball rules were the same as baseball rules. Once a pitcher is removed from the mound (circle) she can not pitch again in that game. The rules have changed so that a pitcher can be removed from the circle once per inning as long as she stays in the game. Coach Hutch will do this occasionally.
My assistant coach's argument was to change for the sake of change. Now I agree that sometimes a coach will make a change to throw batters off but this was not the case. I almost fired the @sshole because the pitcher heard him and me arguing and she felt that she was the reason we lost. I did end up firing the guy several years later. It was difficult because he was my friend as well. I could not cover for him anymore and if you always do the right thing; you can never be wrong.
I have not read in any published reports that Sara is injured. Coach Hutch will NEVER take the chance of increasing the injury so we have to trust Coach Hutch. Sara will get better as the season progresses.
I am disapointed that we lost to UF but on Memorial Weekend when we win our Regionals, no one will remember that game...trust me on that. We have to keep focused on what is important.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||There are a few reasons||
that I (we) use first names. Softball in general is more of a first name or nick name type sport. You will rarely hear a Coach call a player by their last name.
I personally like to use nicknames and will even allow my girls to put their nicknames on the back of their jerseys if they choose. I do take some heat from outsiders for this but it is from those that do not understand the close-nit softball family-type atmosphere.
Second I know some former players and some will stop by my (football and softball) tailgate. I have some former players come to my annual softball tourney to speak to the girls (10U through 14U). I have had some current player's parents at my softball tailgates. So I guess you could say that first names are part softball culture and part familiarity.
I have said this several time previously, I have coached elite youth softball for 20 years. I have coached my daughters D1 Club Team a few years ago as well. So even though I do not have any relatives on Team #37, the use of first names or nick names is just second nature for me.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Hi SBW||
I agree with your assessment of Besta. I watched her pitch in Fall Ball and she has all the tools to be a Jordan Taylor type pitcher. Her speed and accuracy is almost to the elite level. All she needs is to "learn" how to pitch. She will certainly get that experience and coaching with Hutch.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||I have not heard the||
term "Natural Hat-trick" in years. I wonder if some of the youngsters know that term.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||I will try||
but these Spring Tourneys are not very well run in terms of stats. The Big Ten Games all get posted correctly and quickly.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||The stream was||
a little shaky as well. They did not post the box scores until much later. I always try to catch the official line as compared to my score-keeping just to make sure I have the stat correct.
The official box score did not get published until an hour or so after the game. Maybe they were not expecting a beat-down of Wolverine Proportions.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||I think we agree on this||
There are some situations where a walk is needed. I have even walked a batter with bases loaded twice in my Coaching Career. Once I called time out to talk to the picther. I told her that I wanted her to walk the next runner. I told her to roll it up there if she needed to. She replied, "but Coach, are you crazy the bases are loaded".
Intentional Walks are not very common. In a vast majority of the cases, it is better to pitch to a batter. Good pitching beat good hitting EVERY SINGLE DAY. The data is clear the better the K:BB ratio; the more likely it is to win.
The dropped third strike will certainly cause chaos if a team is not prepared. I teach my players to run to first regardless if 1st base is occupied. I have scored many a run because the catcher throws the ball down to 1st and the runner on third is eagerly waiting for the throw. One time I had a coach tell me that it was illegal to have the runner take off because it "confused" his catcher. SAY WHAT?!?!
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Did anyone||
notice the cheerleaders in the aisles? Cheerleaders...........at a hockey game?..........Must be a Russian thing.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||I am totally biased here||
but there is no other sport on campus that is consistant in winning B1G titles. Coach Hutch is a machine and her program is second to none.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||Jim Delaney||
agrees with you. CF is an open market in the East. I hope this conversation is different in 5 years. There is no better sport than CF. Now this is coming from a Life-Long Michigander who has put up with William Clay Ford.
I have always contended that if the Lions ever get hot for several years, Sparty will take a hit in attendance and popularity. A Sparty grad can only choose one football ticket on such a meager salary.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||PBR? Really? PBR||
Now that brings back some good memories of my youth. Errr, on second though, maybe I dont have memories after some PBRs and these memories are second-hand accounts from my friends.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||You are correct.||
Good Sir. Every home game is televised. Most will be on the paid MGoblue TV though. It is a small price to pay for those who cannot make the games.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Agreed.||
However, SB is not a men's revenue sport so the television demand is just not there. Also the overall popularity of SB is not very high. I will say that Michigan SB has a very large following: partly because "This is Michigan" and partly because of the success of the team and Coach Hutch.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Felt bad||
for a sparty loss? Isnt that a contradiction in terms?
|4 weeks 6 days ago||We need||
something to talk about. Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy.
Congrats to the swim team. This takes away some of the pain of this Day from Hell!!!
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Hi SBW||
Nice to see you. I agree. Two wins today would kick off the season in great form, especially against #3 Florida. What a way to open the season.
I wish the game video was available as I would pay to watch this game vs Florida. It will be a 1-0 game regardless of who wins.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I was||
wondering who would be the first to catch that. No offense to Si-Lo but she is "better than ever".
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Not really||
part of the problem is the B1G is not a softball powerhouse. The Pac10 could have teams with 4-6 losses, all in conference, and still rank higher than a 6. The Big Ten is 4th out of the 6 major conferences.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I agree||
Sometimes Section 1 gets on a rant and tries to get political (ie "UMAA of Boliva Refuses to allow Rich Rod or John U Bacon to Speak").
I will say that these harmless posts are actually entertaining and insightful. I am at a 50% upvote/downvote with Section 1. This post is an Upvote.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||I suspect||
that we will improve every year. We may not have the tradition of the east coast schools. However with Michigan being only a handful of schools that recruits alone regardless of the sport; top recruits will come to Michigan instead of powerhouses like Duke, Syracuse, ND and MD. Our overall college life is equal or better than any of these schools.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||We open||
with Florida at 3pm. The only broadcast I can find is the UF radio broadcast: http://www.wruf.com/listen-live/
The game against USF will be live video broadcast on USF BullsCast from their $$$ website. : http://www.gousfbulls.com/liveEvents/liveEvents.dbml?&&DB_OEM_ID=7700&KEY=
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Ditto||
I screamed "Trey, What the F are you doing?" I was at a bar up north. Everyone in the bar froze and stared at me like I was crazy. Then when it fell, I did go crazy and they cut me off.
|6 weeks 5 days ago||Like I always say,||
sometimes the better team does not win. However, this was the case where we were the better team, poor officiating or not. I had tickets for the game but the weather was not good.
This is the first time since 1987 where a team has beat 3 Top 10 teams consecutively. We showed why we are the best team in the Big Ten and possibly the entire Country. I cannot wait for the polls to come out. Maybe a top 5???
Now I will also agree that we get preferential treatment, all things considered. But I am not complaining.

|9 weeks 2 days ago||I love the timing||
because today is the first day of EE attending class. At least these guys cannot slip.
|9 weeks 2 days ago||WHAT!!!!||
This is unacceptable. Borges single-handedly almost won the game against osu.
What the hell is Brady and DB thinking?
|9 weeks 5 days ago||The current structure||
of any NFL contract makes discipline nearly impossible. Cutting a good player only hurts because a draft pick is wasted and the team gets nothing in return.
We all agree that Suh is a great player but needs to be checked every so often. There is no mechanism to do that. Sitting him only hurts the team, cutting him is not going to happen.
I say WIND SPRINTS for the entire team if Suh swears again.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||More Importantly||
Why the hell is Borgess calling anyone? I thought we fired him? This means Borges is returing for this senior year.
Damn, another year of Borges????? WTF???
|9 weeks 5 days ago||Hi MGrowOld||
I agree. The PSD should fluctuate based on market conditions. Are you proposing Dymanic PSD?
As the demand for season tickets lowers, so should the PSD. As the demand for season tickets goes higher, so should PSD?
I like It.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||Yea||
it look like they are having fun though. Lets get the subs in for som quality minutes.
|9 weeks 6 days ago||Good point||

|9 weeks 6 days ago||This is a classic||
it looks more like a bitch slap than a punch.
|9 weeks 6 days ago||Yea but||
shouldnt we buckle up for safety sake? I mean it IS possible although not likely. I am not going to break the tradition. You will not be able to pin that on me.
|9 weeks 6 days ago||I'm going too||
I would not miss this for anything. I usually try to get to 1 away game every year. This year was Penn State and we all know how that turned out.
At least ND is much closer if the game does not go as planned. It should be a great atmosphere though.
|10 weeks 2 days ago||How true.||
Their fanbase fluctuates weekly by the number of wins. It is a shame really because the kids have played their @sses of this year and is a penalty or two away from playing in the NCG.
No one cares about msu. They cant fill a 75K stadium for a game fergodssakes. The fanbase is the biggest band-wagon fans of them all. And they talk about "Walmart Wolverines"? Hell we have nothing on their Walmart sparties.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||Very nice.||
I see what you did there.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||That will be a stretch.||
Can anyone at the game give us an update on the crowd?
|10 weeks 6 days ago||Nice Post||
|10 weeks 6 days ago||What was the final score?||
|10 weeks 6 days ago||Why wait until Monday?||
We can call Metro Cars to pick him up from Ford Field at halftime tomorrow.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||For me,||
a solid performance by the offence.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||Crash is||
a huge M fan. I see him often at Softball games. There is no doubt he knows Michigan. I dont think he will do a good job as he hurts my ears on his mid-day show.
Shep is a much better choice IMO.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||Kevin, is that you?||
|12 weeks 4 days ago||Yea but||
how is his jumper from behind the arch?
|12 weeks 4 days ago||The real question||
is WHICH number on his jersey???
|14 weeks 2 days ago||He has||
to earn it first. Blake deserves it now.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||^^^Exactly^^^^||
I could have support this if we thought we could hurry the snap and catch them off-guard. But after the time-out, I be like....Kick the dang ball and win it in overtime. There was no gurantee we would have won it in OT either.
Everyone in my section wanted OT. Is a loss in OT better than a loss in regulation? I dont know.
|15 weeks 4 days ago||The leak was||
to Kirk by design to get it out into the public so LSU would put pressure on Les to stay. However that person was, some say it was Carr, is a master at politics.
Either way, Les wanted to come home (per Bacon) and it was derailed by someone in Power or authority.
|15 weeks 4 days ago||How do you know||
that he said "No" twice? Just because he is not the coach does not mean he said no. My guess is that he said "YES" but because of the distant indescretion by Mr. Miles left many powerful people in AA, a little apprehensive.
Now that Mary Lou is gone, that clears the way for Les. I have not seen where DB comes down on the issue because he was not on campus when the alledged incident took place.
Moeller is getting old, Carr is long gone, Bo Jr probably does not care, ML is heading for AA (not Ann Arbor the other AA).
If Brady does get the axe, I will put money that Les will come home.
|16 weeks 4 days ago||Especially in SB||
where Hutch must have a hologram of herself in Orange County. She is well-loved out there and her magical powers are spread far and wide.
|16 weeks 4 days ago||Hi MGoBrewMom||
I just might do that. I have a few vacation days that I need to burn up. I prefer to go south in March but I just might head out west.
Why? Are you offering me some MGoBrew?????
|16 weeks 4 days ago||Coach Hutch||
has more than a pipeline; she has a Bullet Train line from Orange County to Ann Arbor. Over the past 15 years, we have been very fortunate to have many top softball players come from the O.C.
|22 weeks 4 days ago||I will||
be making the trip on Saturday. I will be there about 2pm so that leaves plenty of time to enjoy a few prior to the game.
What is the typical Michigan turnout for PSU games?
|24 weeks 2 days ago||MGo-Code||
"Dont be too picky" = She should be over 200 pounds
|24 weeks 4 days ago||Let the students||
pay full price for a season ticket. If they go to all the games, and show up on time, refund 50%. If they dont show up or are late, sux to be them.
We have to give them a financial incentive to go. Then maybe those who only want a few games will not buy a season ticket. This will leave more for the Alums and general public.
|24 weeks 6 days ago||NC here we come||
|24 weeks 6 days ago||Might as well fire Mary Sue||
while we are at it.
|24 weeks 6 days ago||Someone||

|24 weeks 6 days ago||Wut?||
That is the purpose of a 3rd down punt; the "return team" does not expect it. They would be in their 3rd and long defense. This play is executed fairly often at the High School level.
|24 weeks 6 days ago||A pooch is not||
limited to 4th down. It is typically more effective on 3rd down although rarely called at the D1 level. Thats right, I said D1.
|24 weeks 6 days ago||This must||
be the first quarter. The student section is not full.
|24 weeks 6 days ago||I checked with the USAF||
Weather Person. She has 40% chance of rain at the kick. Then increasing chances throughout the game.
The cold front that extends from Canada to Mexico is moving East at 30 MPH. Her prediction is the first drops of rain will occur at 10pm +/- 30 minutes. So I hope everyone brought their raingear.
|25 weeks 1 day ago||We can get the definitive||
answer right quick: Who has the Flight Aware App?
|26 weeks 5 days ago||I will withold judgement||
until I read the article and wait for the responses. However, my respect for Les will be diminished even more. The man has issues and it was known by everyone on campus even before he banged a coach's wife.
|26 weeks 5 days ago||I sit in sec 4||
row 10. The visiting band is always annoying. I did see them using sheet music most of the time. However, I have seen every opposing band use sheet music so I am not sure that is a good measure.
I hear our band about as equal volume as the opposing band that plays abot 15 feet in front of me. I will say that the ND fans were much like Husker fans: polite and respectful. There was only one instance where I was annoyed. This was when when we had an injury time-out and they took the opportunity to cheer "Lets Go Irish". I thought some of our fans were going to jump a Blue Haired Couple sitting next to me as they joined in the chant. They did not stop when it was mentioned that we have an injured player on the field.
|27 weeks 1 day ago||From a bunch of assholes||
this is coming from my daughter who is active duty in the USAF. She is a weather forecaster for the Eastern US. She would do anything to be home and go to the game. However, she cant because she is serving our country. So anyone who is against our service men and women who want be home at Michigan but cant, I say FUCK YOU!!!
|27 weeks 1 day ago||Michgoblue858:||
Last week it did rain on Plymouth Road at noon. I have the wet, soggy hotdog buns to prove it. So my duaghter's forecast was 100% CORRECT.
The forecast is for an area around KARB. Obviously you did not read the OP. This forecast is from my daughter who is a weather forecaster for the Eastern US serving in the USAF. She is watching KARB for me every week.
Please refrain from posting until you have facts.
|27 weeks 5 days ago||The Ohio State University||

|28 weeks 16 hours ago||This is the||
version that the MMB plays during pregame. This is not the official version as written by Elbel. The first stanza repeats then the second stanza repeats with some minor lyric changes.
|28 weeks 16 hours ago||Agree.||
It was difficult for my wife because she had to root for M and AF last year. My youngest daughter gradutated from CMU (Michigan has no Actuary Program) so my wife will be conflicted tomorrow.
My daughter will wear her Michigan Season T with her CMU hat.
I paid enough money to CMU so I will be dammed if I wear anything CMU tomorrow.
My boss will be tailgaiting with us tomorrow as well. He is a Wiskey Grad but will be wearing Maize. I told him he should wear Wiskey T shirt but it could be mistaken for ohio.
|28 weeks 16 hours ago||I have to||
use the term "unofficial" because she and her Lt could get into trouble because of sequestration. All of the civilian meterologists have been furloughed. The active duty service people are manning the stations. She does not like it because she has to work a swing shift.
|28 weeks 17 hours ago||Actually this is quite||
different from the USAF. She is forecasting a much higher humidity than Intellicast has. Humidity+Heat=Trouble.
I will certainly heed my daughters advice and bring ponchos just in case. I just hope it done not rain until after the game.
|28 weeks 17 hours ago||Dont jinx us||
I remember CMU and the first-ever delay at Michigan Stadium. I was watching the radar on my Moto Razor phone and watching the clouds roll in from the North. (I was sitting in South End zone). It rained about 2 inches in 30 minutes and there was no where to hide.
The PA said to "exit the stadium for your own safety". Where the hell were we to go? Out on an open golf course?
I was there in 11 but was smart and left before the storms came in. We pulled out onto State St when it unleashed. We made it to I94 and got ahead of the storm by going 90MPH.

The truth is the truth and the facts are the facts. Many people I know mistake this data for arrogance. I think it is just jealousy. We are one of the greatest institutions known to man. Why should be down-play this fact? I am proud to be a Wolverine and I display my pride every day. I make no applogies for it.
I am sure that DB is three steps ahead of us. Afterall, he did go to Michigan.
|29 weeks 5 days ago||I think||
you are missing one very large point. Michigan has the largest Alumni Association on the planet. The Alumni are in the top 10% of wage earners as well. I dont think a Texas degree garners much excitement outside Texas and surrounding areas.
An OSU network would not work IMO because after paying the trailer lot payment, cigarettes, Busch Light, and porno mags; there is not enough left of the welfare check to pay $15/mo. They steal cable anyway so they would probably get it for free.
I personally have written DB about this. I offered to pay 9.95 + TAX per month. I am not sure if I would pay $15/mo but probably would. I would find a way to make it tax deductable anyway.

This year is a little tame because of the thunder storms but overall a very nice crowd. My prediction is Stars and Stripes to take the flag.
|35 weeks 1 day ago||Without getting political||
and speaking purely on a historical basis, I can name a certain recent President who lead by conviction and not polls. This recent President is GREAT in my mind as Ford is. Both of these Presidents have average historical rankings but were top 10 in my opinion.

OSU and PSU. That is much better than OSU and moo u IMO. I hoped moo u would get moved to the west like they wanted. Maybe with future expansion, they will.
|35 weeks 1 day ago||2016 is not bad||
We get PSU, Colorado and Wiskey. Since Nebraska gets traded for PSU; that is a wash IMO. Colorado is a shell of its former self but this will still be a bigger game and Wiskey is always tough.
Overall I like 2016 better than 2012 and 2014.
|35 weeks 3 days ago||Exactly my point||
DB sets the "initial" price. However, the market sets the price. Stubhub, Craigslist, Scalper guy on State St (my favorite) all factor in to the price. The price will fluctuate depending on many factors, weather, opponent, supply etc.
Why do you think so many season ticketholder sold their ohio tickets to ohio fans in 2009? They (season ticket holders) determined the cash value of the ticket was worth more to them than watching the game. Some people (us) did not value the ticket so we sold them to others (ohio) who did value the game and paid a premium for the tickets.
We are a very unique fanbase. We have the best stadium, the best band, the best game-day experience and dare I say, the best football team in history. So the value of the tickets is higher than most others even though we have the largest supply.
If we cut 30,000 seats, the tickets would cost $300-400 for Indiana. The ohio game would yield over $500. However, I suspect having the largest stadium (supply) has its value in other forms of revenue (advertising).
I would like to know how much revenue is generated for the ads outside the stadium. I would guess it is a pretty penny. By not having advertising inside the stadium, that raises the value for the ads outside the stadium for all 114,480 to see.
|35 weeks 3 days ago||Econ 101||
"Insofar as the amount people are prepared to pay for a product represents its value, price is also a measure of value."
Dave Brandon does not set the price, the market sets the price. As long as people continue to pay for season tickets, "dynamic pricing" will contiue to keep prices high.
Fairly simple actually.
|36 weeks 3 days ago||Good point here||
One more item to consider is that basketball is a much "easier" sport to play than softball. I dont want to offend by basketball brothers/sisters. Basketball is played in third world countries at a much higher rate than softball. Softball and baseball need real estate to build a diamond. Whereas basket ball just needs a small area that can be outdoors with a dirt floor. Softball/baseball needs several thousand dollars worth of equipment as well. Soccer is in, basically, the same situation. All one needs is some tarps and a ball.
Baseball is a little different in that many Carribean countries play the game well. This influence is seen by many Latio players in MLB. So I am a little surprised the IOC does not take that into account.
I, like you, am not emotionally invested. I really enjoy watching softball but I understand the arguements both pro and con. I did get involved by sending an email to the USOC as a courtesy for my softball commrads but I have no control over the IOC's decision. Would I like to see them keep softball/baseball? Yes.
|36 weeks 4 days ago||Yes JGB||
The IOC did tie baseball with softball. However, softball is DOMINATED by the US. Japan did win in '08 and Austrailia is fairly good too. The Philipines are runner's up. That is all there is to say about that.
No European countries can even compete with a D1 powerhouse let alone Team USA. I was disapointed to see the IOC drop softball. However, I will be the first to admit; in the spirit of fair competition, I understand why it was dropped. We "bitch-slap" the world in softball.

and every inning thereafter, the batter who made the last out of the previous inning gets placed on 2nd base. The next batter is up just like normal but there is a runner on 2nd with no outs (obviously).
The runner on second has a 43% chance of scoring. Typically the coach will but the runner over to 3rd. Then the runner is now in scoring position and can score on a base hit or sac fly.
|40 weeks 6 days ago||This is to protect||

I would bet anyone that the NCAA adopts the International Tie breaker because of this game. Tornados, game cancellations, and now a marathon.

|40 weeks 6 days ago||The underhand||

I have seen pitchers throw 150 pitches per game in back to back games. Its not uncommon in summer leagues and at the JC level where teams have only one pitcher.
Conditioning and stamina is way more important. Usually the smaller girls tire more quickly than the larger (Ricketts, Traina) types.

|41 weeks 1 day ago||Lets get out of this||
ladies. Damn it all to hell.
|41 weeks 1 day ago||I will certainly||
get that for you. A study was performed recently by a former Minny softball player going for her Masters in Statistics (IIRC). Her paper is a coach's dream.
My personal data shows about 40% of runners on second base score on a sinlge. But my data is skewed because I do not have D1 level talent.
|41 weeks 1 day ago||Hi there R,||
I saw that too. What the hell was she seeing that the rest of the world was watching?
|41 weeks 1 day ago||Coach is the best at||

|41 weeks 1 day ago||The data does not support you.||
A single will only score a runner in softball 43% of the time. In baseball it is 75%. So in baseball, second is in scoring position but not softball.
|41 weeks 1 day ago||As my good friend and former player Brooke Ward says||
|41 weeks 1 day ago||Contrary to popular||
belief, a runner on second base is NOT in scoring position.

|41 weeks 1 day ago||Come on Sara||

|41 weeks 1 day ago||Kailani can||
throw hard. Already she has hit 71 MPH on the gun. We need to swing the bats tonight.
|41 weeks 1 day ago||After I looked at this again||
if I am the official scorer, Im giving her an error, a 4 base error. No home run.
|41 weeks 1 day ago||Looks like Sara||

Come on ladies, lets do it Wolverine style.
|41 weeks 1 day ago||no.||

|41 weeks 1 day ago||I was heading||
to DTW when the storms came in. I checked the airline and they said "delayed". So being a pilot myself, I called Flight Service and asked them what they thought my chances were. Lansing Flight Service Station have great weather men. He put my chances at under 50%.
So I tried to make it home before the start of the Texas/ASU game. I will try it again tomorrow.
Southwest has $200 round trip tickets right now. That is almost free.
|41 weeks 1 day ago||I watched it||

|41 weeks 1 day ago||I was heading||
to the airport for the flight down but the weather cancelled my flight. Looks like I will try tomorrow. It is an easy 3 hour flight and the fields are only a few miles from the airport.
Im not sure if Haylie is healthy to pitch.
|41 weeks 3 days ago||The organized cheering||
is unique to softball. When I first started coaching, I did not allow my girls to to any organized cheers. They were loud and distracting. Then my 10 year old daughter said, "Dad, can I transfer to that team, because they have a lot of fun cheering?" and that was that. Botta Boom, botta bing.
Now I enjoy it. Especially the M cheers. They do a great rendition of "cant turn you loose- Michigan Style" It is fun to cheer along with the girls.
|41 weeks 4 days ago||Ashley||

|41 weeks 4 days ago||Thanks Alton||

We can win this if, and only if Haylie is healthy. I do not believe any rumors floating around campus.

|41 weeks 5 days ago||I applaud the ND||

This is similar to the Dorsey issue. The school would not commit this kid regardless of the AD because he did not meet minimum standards. I was sad for Dorsey and RR but happy to see this action.
Congrats to ND for sticking to their guns. I would hope we do the same in the future.

|42 weeks 2 days ago||Lloyd Carr||
was the best I ever heard. It was 2003 at my daughters HS graduation. He spoke about when he interviewed for the job at my (and my daughter's) high school. He was chosen over another good guy in my HS Football Coach.
Lloyd was almost my HS coach. It is difficult to grasp but true. Lloyd said he regretted not getting the job because of the HS tradition we had. Somehow I think he landed a job that had just a little bit more tradition, but not by much.
I still have it on tape and I transcribed it too.

|42 weeks 2 days ago||I have said||
this many times before. MSU is not our rival. A rival needs to be able to compete with us year after year. We compete with Ohio for recruits and they have a decent football team.
MSU does not compete with us in any metrics. We only compete on the athletic field, court or ice. The casual fan considers this a "rivalry game" but by definition, MSU is not a rival to most people that have a financial investment in our school. If you ask "Joe Football Fan" on the streets of Fowlerville, he will say MSU is a rival, when in actuality, they are not.
We have so much tradition (and hatred) for Ohio over the years: The Ten Year War I, the upcoming Ten Year War II, Tatgate, Fab Five, etc. Hell we even want to beat them in the annual blood drive every year. MSU is just another Big Ten conference that happens to be in close proximity to us.
The UM/MSU game does not even get on regional TV and is relegated to BTN Channel 3. However, UM/ohio is the prime time game every single year.
|42 weeks 2 days ago||Toledo War|
|42 weeks 4 days ago||The key is||
that softball seams are higher and larger surface area compared to a baseball.
YES!!!!! You hit the nail on the head. The batter CAN see the pitch. However the reaction time is actually less in softball than baseball. The plate to the front edge of the mound is exactly 43' by rule. However, the ball is typically released 3~5 feet in front of the mound via the foot drag and forward leap. So the pitch is released at about 37'. A good college pitcher is up around 67 or 68 MPH. So 68 MPH = almost 100 feet per second. 100 fps @ 37 feet is 370 miliseconds.
Now keep in mind that the batters swing is about 100-200 miliseconds so the batter has about 200 milliseconds to decide to swing. This is why good pitching beats good hitting every time. Most good teams hit about .300~.350.
A good baseball pitcher is about 92 MPH = 135 FPS. But baseball mound is at 60'6" and they do not get the benefit of the foot drag. So 135 fps @ 60'6" is about 450 miliseconds.
|42 weeks 4 days ago||EDIT: Friday and Saturday Games this weekend.||
Friday at 2pm and Saturday Noon with the "if" game following.
|42 weeks 4 days ago||The "drop" pitch||
is very similar (but not exactly) to the curve in baseball. I could get into the physics with you but I'm an engineer and I love geeky things like this.
Basically as the pitcher releases the ball, she rolls her wrist. I teach my pitchers to "turn the door knob" (counterclock wise for RHP).
The index finger should be in full contact with the seams. As the ball is released, the follow through will force the arm to come across the body as opposed to the fast ball where the hand/wrist will follow through up to the neck/face area.
The ball will have severe rotation. The ball will develop high and low pressures around the ball surface. If enough rotation (and speed) are acheived, the ball will "drop". This is very similar to a "stall" in an airplane. There is not enough pressure to hold the weight and the high pressure will cause the ball to move down.
The "rise" ball is just the opposite of the drop although very difficult to master. The ball starts off at the hip of the pitcher. As the ball is gaining velocity and rotation, the ball bites into the air molecules and "climbs the ladder". The batter sees the ball at the letters but when she swings, the ball is up around her chin. Typically the batter misses the rise ball. Ashley Lane is probably the best rise ball hitter that I have ever seen. She will at least get a piece of the ball to foul it off.
Alabama's Jackie Traina is a master of the rise ball. I counted every pitch in the WS. From my vantage point (my lay-z-boy) she threw about 33% of her pitches in the strike zone. Most of her strike outs were from batters chasing the high ball. Even Ashley struck out a few times on the rise ball.
Most people do not understand the game of softball. Many think that a high pitch is the sign of a pitcher losing control. FALSE. A good pitcher will throw the rise ball until she walks two batters in one inning. Then she will mix up her pitches a little more. Teams have figured out Traina and now force her to throw pitcher in the strike zone where it can be hit.

|42 weeks 5 days ago||We must have||
been sitting very close then. I was originally in Sec 1 row 7. Then I moved down to the dugout area.
Emily Hepker is out of the hospital and was in the dugout with the team. It was such a treat to see her smile and get a hug from all the girls.
|42 weeks 5 days ago||Henderson was in the dugout||
and not having muh fun. I spoke with her briefly after the game as we waited for the players to come out. She said her knee was killing her and she was about to pull herself out. If Cal won the first game, she would not have played in the second.
I felt bad for her because she played very well today but not good enough. She was hobbling toward Schembechler Hall with her dad. A good game by both teams.
I only ask that the best team wins. I think this happened today.
|42 weeks 5 days ago||The delayed dead ball||
was the second call he made. The first was interference then he quickly changed to delayed dead ball AFTER the second base umpire called delayed dead ball. The second base umpire did not have position to see Ashley in relationship with the ball or the runner as the Ashley obscured her vision of the play.
The home plate ump then confirmed what both base umpires called. Hutch was arguing the original call with the first base umpire. Then the home plate umpire injected herself without being invited.
Bad call either way. If the first base ump CLEARLY called delayed dead ball and then the other 2 umpires confirmed the call, then you can say "umpires judgement".
Hutch was spitting angry. The home plate umpire was just as angry. I rarely see other umpires lose their cool with a coach. Overall I thought this umpire did a decent job but not good enough for Regional Play.
I have umpired many a high school game and I will admit I made more than my fair share of mistakes. I do not claim to be an NCAA quality umpire but I would have called this a "collision" or no-call as the runner did not leave her feet and just side stepped Ashley.
