He practically broke out his checkbook during the press conference. The apparent lack of interest throughout the country coupled with DB's evident lack of acumen is very disheartening at this point.

2 years 23 weeks ago This

First, Michigan couldn't even get an interview from a coach from NW. A Nebraska coach went out of his way to show disinterest in a rumor. The most prized alumnus working turns down the keys to the kingdom. And now an MWC coach might spurn Michigan for Stanford. Stanford!

When will the DB realize what a toxic environment the Michigan coaching job is immersed in?

3 years 39 weeks ago I LOL'd

This got my morning off to a great start. It also reminds me I need to forward that article to my OSU friend. Thank you.

3 years 39 weeks ago Honestly...

Who carries batteries around?

3 years 39 weeks ago I (for one) wasn't pissed

I (for one) wasn't pissed while they were playing for a spot in the NC. It wasn't until January that year...when I was snapped back into reality watching them, one game removed from a championship, getting waxed yet again in Pasadena by USC.

Watching Dwayne Jarrett hand Willis Barringer the ball after repeatedly catching it right in his face woke me up to the fact that, yes, Lloyd needs to ride off now...

3 years 39 weeks ago He seems to have his finger on the OSU fan pulse...

Tressel doesn't seem to be under any illusions as to who his constituency is:

"You felt like it's been a nine-year honeymoon?" he repeated on Tuesday. "You must not have liked your honeymoon."

AND...

"When I read some of them I feel terrible for them because there's no way they're happy," he said. "They've got to be some of the most unhappy people in the world, and I feel bad because we just made them less happy, and I hate to be a part of making someone less happy. I mean, they're already miserable."

3 years 39 weeks ago In case you're wondering...

Kevin Newsome had 0 passing yards (no attempts) and -14 yards on 4 attempts today for PSU.

3 years 39 weeks ago How does one go about writing

3 years 39 weeks ago It's only the 2nd Game

I'd rather them take some lessons from a ND win than some random loss...

3 years 39 weeks ago Don't forget...

...Stokes was anonymous. The future looks bright!!!

3 years 39 weeks ago Trent

Trent was a 5th year senior who never got better. Boo-boo is a sophomore who just played a game that went in the W-column.

I like the future.

3 years 40 weeks ago Wait, what...?

If this were OSU, MSU or any other Big Ten team, I'd be cheering for them.

...but not Ohio State.

3 years 40 weeks ago Good point

In hindsight, maybe Sanchez should have made an impassioned vow to reporters that USC would be the hardest working team in football...

3 years 40 weeks ago I hate Keith Hernandez...
3 years 40 weeks ago That is true

I root for the Big Ten during bowl season EXCEPT when OSU is playing for a national championship. That's where I draw the line.

I did enjoy watching them run laps around ND in '05...

3 years 40 weeks ago I for one couldn't care less

I for one couldn't care less about the perception of the conference. I'll go as far as to say I don't care how the rest of the Big Ten teams perform on a week to week basis.

Nobody says that the perception of the Pac-10 makes USC look bad. That's because they kick ass and dominate their bowl games.

All I want is for Michigan to WIN GAMES. The rest of the conference can fend for themselves.

3 years 40 weeks ago It's a .500 road trip. Not

It's a .500 road trip. Not the end of the world.

It's like their west coast swing; I expected to get 2 from Oakland and wanted one from the Angels. The opposite happened but they still finished .500 on the trip.

Considering their road record for the season, I'll take it.

3 years 41 weeks ago Good perspective...

"Come back to me when you have complaints about schools buying players, getting cash and clothing, kids cheating on tests.

Give me a break, criticizing an athlete for sweating, working hard, spending time to perform at a higher level! That is a joke!"

3 years 41 weeks ago Tigers just took the lead in

Tigers just took the lead in the bottom of the 9th. Time to get Cardiac Closer warming up...

3 years 41 weeks ago Damn it

I just posted this. That was awesome...

Mod Edit:

Since you posted at the same time, but this got the comments, I'll just repost your thread info here as it's still an excellent description:

For those not watching ESPN at the moment, Rece Davis just told Rodriguez haters in Ann Arbor/Wolverine Nation to chill and let Coach Rodriguez to do his job and win--which he most assuredly will do.

He compared it to Alabama waiting for the right "Alabama Man" to run the show until they found the right "Man" to do it in Saban.

Wow, did not see this coming from the worldwide leader...

3 years 41 weeks ago (No subject)
3 years 41 weeks ago I'm willing to bet that a lot

...two down on the list from this one.

3 years 41 weeks ago Countable vs. Non-countable

I can still hear the detractors in stereo: "Just because everyone else does it doesn't make it right." The article is a step in the right direction, objectively speaking.

Countable vs. Non-countable hours would be the real wet blanket on all this.

3 years 41 weeks ago Wow

Prior to the past 2 weeks, I've barely been on here since the NCAA tourney and your statement brought a lot flooding back.

3 years 41 weeks ago I keed, I keed

In all seriousness, last year's team (the most abysmal in decades) was within 2 points of Utah. The same Utah that finished undefeated and punked Bama in their bowl game.

There's no way that WMU is better than Utah and no way this M team is worse than last year's.

I'm still of the opinion that 3 qbs = Sheridan's out.

If he has two years in the system (for all intents and purposes) and he's "equal" with two new freshman...that's not exactly a ringing endorsement.

3 years 41 weeks ago At EMU.

3 years 41 weeks ago BTN should suffice. I live

BTN should suffice. I live in Virginia/ACC Country (weak) and between BTN and ESPN/ESPN2/ABC I think I got to see every M game last year.

Not that I would have remembered missing one...

3 years 41 weeks ago It used to be different; not

It used to be different; not that any of us are old enough to remember.

They invited each other to dedicate their stadiums back in the day after all.

OSU even gave Tom Harmon a standing ovation after he single-handedly whooped that ass. This is probably the closest we'll get to that level of sportsmanship in this day and age.

Having said that, my Tom Harmon avatar will drink to that! Thanks OSU.

3 years 41 weeks ago Just an observation...

A diary vanished as I was attempting to comment on it. But it's only happened once.

I'm hoping that BG and Minor (among others) really step up and take charge of "their" season.

3 years 41 weeks ago If the allegations are false...

You'll hear nothing. And that's what really pisses me off.

3 years 41 weeks ago In all serious this is

In all seriousness this is exactly what I wanted to see/read.

Two questions, though:

1) Is it a coincidence that all of the former players NOT speaking anonymously are currently in the NFL and assert that they put in extra work to become better (Henne, Trent, Butler...)?

and

2) Does anyone know if Rick Leach has come back from the stratosphere to make a comment?

3 years 41 weeks ago No doubt about it.

No doubt about it.

3 years 41 weeks ago This is what I read: "Words

This is what I read:

"Words words words words (I AM NOT A NARC) words words..."

3 years 41 weeks ago I'm looking for Minor to run

I'm looking for Minor to run wild and BG to fold someone up.

BTW, this is going to be my prediction for every game this year.

3 years 41 weeks ago I appreciate everything Lloyd did, but...

I would just as soon he stay away from this for a few reasons. I know I'm probably going to get some negative points but here me out...

I don't think Lloyd fostered a culture of leadership. There, I said it. Where is his coaching tree? Has he not spent more time "coaching" EMU since English is there in spite of his AD job at M?

But deeper than that, and leaving the talent cupboard out of this, WHERE IS THE LEADERSHIP ON THIS TEAM!? All of the Jrs and Srs left are Lloyd's recruits and this ship seems to have no rudder; and they're the ones who have "bought in".

Give RR a couple years, and let this transition run its course and you will see a completely different program/culture.

3 years 41 weeks ago SSDS

Same Shit Different State

I feel like I just stepped out of Doc Brown's DeLorean. I grew up in WV and remember when everyone wanted to run the new 3-8 loser coach out of the state. The no-huddle didn't "fit" at WVU...how could we hire this bum...? And so on and so on.

However WVU never had the sense of entitlement that (some) UM alumni/boosters seem to possess until...you guessed it...RR had WVU winning 10+ games a year and winning BCS games. Some people even considered UM a step down(!).

I have to say I'm disappointed that this is still going on during year 2. Les Miles is never coming here and RR given a chance WILL WIN.

These whiny, entitled ex-players should have stuck it out. It seems like they would have had a lot in common with some other (though not all) alumni.

3 years 41 weeks ago Judging by the latter season

Judging by the latter season records (save '06) and the "identities" of the detractors, I would be willing to guess somewhere in the arena of...not enough.

3 years 41 weeks ago I don't know

I wouldn't call it necessary, but it's nice to see some support out there.

This guy doesn't get a break in the media and I have a feeling there's a silent majority out there.

3 years 41 weeks ago 219 now

I tweeted him earlier. I doubt he personally checks it, but I figured it couldn't hurt.

http://twitter.com/UM_CoachRod

3 years 41 weeks ago Maybe...

Just maybe, it doesn't say the allegations aren't true because they are withholding indictment until an official investigation report (worthy of reporting)is released.

If Michigan were to "win" and go 0-12 rather than "compete" you will soon find them on Brown and Princeton's schedule or worse, in pages of history next to Chicago...

3 years 41 weeks ago Pessismism on the Situation...

When Martin/NCAA discover nothing wrong occurred it will get buried on page 12 or not mentioned at all.

3 years 41 weeks ago I'm not a big recruitnik...

But most articles I've seen show most recruits blown away by Barwis.

I think if you weigh these allegations against current NFL players that come back to work out at Michigan, it's a draw at worst.

3 years 41 weeks ago Good questions

I only remember him from Terelle Pryor's recruitment trip...

We know there is a constituency of people who did not and do not want RR. But these guys (Rosenberg/Snyder) are just reporters, right? There has to be someone with an axe to grind green-lighting this stuff.

I've seen enough people better versed in journalism than I commenting on the lack on integrity apparent in an article such as this. My question is, who is pulling these strings? Editors, advertisers...? Just a thought.

Way too much time chipping away on the interwebs.

4 years 5 weeks ago I think you kind of touched on it...

I, for one, treat this board like a party setting. It's fun to talk smack knowing you're doing it to another Michigan fan. It's like arguing with your brother. It's no big deal until someone else tries to pick on him. Then the infighting ceases to matter and you're at each others' defense.

It's part of the accountability of the whole thing. Let's be honest, and correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the cream of the crop when it comes to Michigan boards. If someone comes with something irrational or idiotic they aren't being flamed by some other team's fans; they're being checked by Michigan fans with enough know to post here in the first place. Furthermore, if someone registers/posts without reading or researching this board, they deserve anything and everything they get IMO.

If I were to say something like "Sure Mike Hart was pretty good, but I would have rather seen Underwood get a few more touches first..." I would expect to get slammed by knowledgeable, rational Michigan fans who could give me realistic reasons why I was wrong.

Or if I were to ask, say, "Why did Mike Hart get drafted so late?" and got reasonable, rational, logical responses I would say "Oh, thank you." and go on my way. Others aren't this adept and keep driving uninformed irrational points into the ground until it borders on trolling regardless of their original intentions.

Having said that, I like it just the way it is here. People have been pissed at me and flamed me one day, and agreed with me and joked the next. It's situationally dependent and only for people adjusted enough to accept it. If not, Scout and MLive are always open.

Per: http://mvictors.com/

MVictors: One of the things that I’ve heard is that, down the road, you’d like to be a coach. Is that true, has that always been a goal?

Sheridan: Yes, but some people think that I came here as someone who didn’t want to compete and that I just came here to learn and to be a coach, etc., etc. I don’t know how that got blown up. That’s not the case at all.
I came here because it was the best school I got into and the it was the best opportunity to be a part of something special. I could come here and play Michigan football, that’s why I’m here.
Probably since eighth grade my dad’s been a coach and I’ve been around football my whole life so I can’t imagine not being around it. Since then I’ve wanted to one day be a professional, college or maybe even high school

4 years 10 weeks ago It was also nice to see Perry

It was also nice to see Perry go 1-2-3 in his debut. Something the veteran bullpen didn't seem able to do the 2 games before.

Yeah, Porcello is pitching tonight. That's what I'm interested in seeing. And with a win (and the mathematical certainty they can't start 0-7) behind them, there isn't as much pressure on the kid.

4 years 10 weeks ago STOP IT!!!

4 years 10 weeks ago Not the same old Inge

3 jacks in as many nights. Wow.

4 years 10 weeks ago A cab?

My entourage would have a full-time DD.

4 years 10 weeks ago That is my point.

It is not merely stats. It is also not just stats. Furthermore, it is not stats alone. And, if I may be so bold, it is not strictly stats.

1) Pryor is an awesome athlete.
2) Pryor put up great stats during his freshman year.
3) Some people aren't that impressed.
4) This year will be a much better barometer of future success (IMO based on TP having a new supporting cast and a year under his belt).

I don't know how much more clearly I can explain myself. I'm not saying he's not good. I'm not saying he wasn't productive. Quite the opposite. But when someone isn't impressed all anyone can do is cite stats. There are other variables. That is all I'm trying to get across. That is what you got across when discounting Brennen (and rightly so).

If it were just stats, as I pointed out above, 2004 UM had more offensive production than 2008 OSU with one less game. OSU also had Jr. Beanie and an NFL-bound receiving corp. Is anyone going to be so bold and say that the 2004 UM team was better just based on stats?

For the record, I am looking forward to seeing how he progresses. Of course, I want UM to beat OSU, but I would like to see what happened to the guy who got away.

4 years 10 weeks ago But you just discounted

But you just discounted Brennen's stats. You will go round and round with this logic.

BTW the random peoples' opinions were in response to the homerism comment, not a definitive evaluation of TP's abilities.

Read the whole thread.

4 years 10 weeks ago You're supporting my point.

It's not just stats. As simple as that.

4 years 10 weeks ago True

My devil's advocate platform was built on the fact that Brennen broke like 10 all-time NCAA records that year to counter Tebow's 20-20 year.

4 years 10 weeks ago Oh.

I don't by any means think he should switch positions. I'm actually curious to see how he does at QB. Especially since M wanted him so bad.

I didn't account for the "Position-Switchers'" Camp. I guess that blows my two faction theory away--unless they are some unsanctioned splinter group of the unbelievers...

4 years 10 weeks ago Yeah

After re-reading I did make it sound kind of stark. Most people do tend to lean one way or the other, though. I've seen/had this argument so many times on here I can't even invest emotion into it anymore.

And since that's the only reply I get from Magnus, I'll assume my point was articulated appropriately and sleep better tonight. ;]

4 years 10 weeks ago I hope you're right. A

I hope you're right. A porous infield and blown leads easily cost them 15 games last year. Anyway, I'm still optimistic...as long as they go at least 1-6 to start the year. :]

4 years 10 weeks ago Now it's bugging me.

I swear he dove over it. The commentators even mentioned it a couple times. I wish I would have DVR'd it now.

Whatever, I just hope it's not a trend. I would hate to have traded Renteria's noodle arm for a transparent Everett.

4 years 10 weeks ago I was merely trying to point

I was merely trying to point out that you have to take other variables into account when forming an opinion/evaluation.

I used Colt Brennen while playing devil's advocate during a Heisman argument against Tim Tebow. If it's all stats, Brennen wins hands down. (Of course, I would pick Tebow for my team any day.) That's when everyone chimes in with "It's not just stats...look at how Tebow does this...look at how Tebow handles that...etc.". But sure enough, anyone who isn't impressed with Pryor (yet) gets an encyclopedia's worth of stats thrown in his face and that's supposed to settle it. Remember, statistically speaking, 2008 OSU had less offensive production than Henne's 2004 UM team--that's including a 13th game.

There are two factions on this board: those who are convinced TP is the second coming, and those who are waiting to be impressed. I happen to fall in the latter. Don't get me wrong, TP is a tremendous athlete with undeniable talent. I'm just not that crazy about his QB-ing...yet.

4 years 10 weeks ago Thank you.

The "context of their offense" was kind of what I was alluding to.

4 years 10 weeks ago The Royals

4 years 10 weeks ago Who knows with Lyon. I was

Who knows with Lyon. I was more disappointed with Everett missing that hit up the middle. How do you dive for a ball that goes under your stomach? Of course, if there hadn't been a leadoff walk...

I think we'll see that new kid Perry tonight and Fernando Rodney. What I'm really looking forward to is Porcello tomorrow.

They can't start 0-7 again. Comerica will have tumbleweed in the stands all year.

4 years 10 weeks ago True but...

Remember, statistically speaking, Timmy Chang and Colt Brennen are two of the greatest college QBs in the last few decades. You do have to take several variables into account, not just stats.

As far as homerism goes, I work right beside an OSU grad who was not impressed with Pryor this year (in spite of results). I also have a cousin who lives in Cincy and has heard many Buckeye fans and media personalities express various levels of skepticism. It's not just this board...

4 years 10 weeks ago "It is dumb to think his

"It is dumb to think his passing game won't be drastically improved."

Not necessarily. With a new receiving corp TP might just break even. He will probably be throwing more too without an experienced backup.

4 years 10 weeks ago That's OK...
