|18 hours 6 min ago||Most of the other other top teams||
are more balanced than UM is. There is not as large of a disparity between their defensive performance and offensive performance. Sure, there a plenty of teams who are unbalanced (Ohio State being an example), but that is why those teams are not considered top 10 teams.
If go by the efficiency numbers there is around a 90 spot gap between their offense and defense numbers. I don't think that is the case with the other teams in the 1-2 seed range.
One of the usual keys in the tournament is having the ability to win games in mutiple ways. This team really can't do that, they will live and die based on how they shoot the ball. The other 1-2 seed teams seem to be more equipped to be able to win games in different ways.
|18 hours 30 min ago||I don't see how that would be a large stretch||
This team has obviously accomplished great things this year, and deserves a ton of respect for that.
However, it is fairly obvious that their chances in the tournament will be based on how they play on the offensive end. One cold game on that end of the floor in the tournament could very well let an inferior team spring the upset. They obviously can't count on the defense to win games in the tournament.
In short, I think their chances in the tournament are highly unpredictable. They are the type of team who could get upset early, or they could go deep like last year's team. I do think they will be a common pick for people predicting upsets.
|18 hours 44 min ago||The same type of defense as all year||
You act like bad defense is something new.
Amazing what this team has been able to do in terms of winning the conference, despite being so bad defensively.
|19 hours 49 min ago||Big Ten Officials||
I guess a ball can magically change directions on it's own now.
|6 days 12 hours ago||What?||
There is no way in hell Indiana is the second best team in the Big Ten.
|6 days 12 hours ago||Need Darius Morris back||
So he can tell Crean to get the fuck off the court.
|6 days 13 hours ago||That was actually a good no-call||
It was actually all ball. These refs are still shit, though.
|6 days 13 hours ago||Big Ten officials can eat a bag of dicks||
They are just awful.
|6 days 13 hours ago||Trying to figure out the doesn't mean anything statements||
about this game. Doesn't a loss possibly bump them down to a 4 seed? It seems like it would pretty much kill the chance for a 2 seed.
|6 days 13 hours ago||Which is why I said I don't like the odds||
I didn't say it was impossible. The odds of playing great on offense every game in the tourney, is not a bet I would take, though.
|6 days 13 hours ago||That is not what I said||
I did not call the team shit, I said the defense is shit.
|6 days 13 hours ago||So I get negged for stating a fact||
Do the idiots who negged me want to actually make a case for how this team's defense isn't shit?
|6 days 13 hours ago||Don't like this team's odds of going||
deep in the tourney, with the shit defense they play. The lack of effort on d is glaring.
|6 days 13 hours ago||Still means something for seeding||
They could still end up anywhere from a 2-4 seed depending on what happens in this game and in the BTT.
|1 week 4 days ago||A couple more that were left out||
Navy Midshipmen, NC State Wolfpack, Nevada Wolfpack, and Tulsa Golden Hurricane
|1 week 4 days ago||Alabama, Tulane, North Texas, Syracuse, Stanford||
Crimson Tide, Green Wave, Mean Green,Orange, and Cardinal.
Edit: Forgot about Marshall, ND and Illinois
|1 week 6 days ago||Makes sense||
College basketball officials seem to have a hard time grasping logic, though.
|1 week 6 days ago||What is with the officials the last couple minutes?||
Definately helping Minnesota right now.
|1 week 6 days ago||Jim Jackson still making excuses for MSU||
|1 week 6 days ago||Izzo is such a whiny piece of shit||
Always blaming something else, not his own team's performance.
And then the officials, instead of giving him a technical like he deserved, screw over Illinois by calling a non-existent foul.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Defense and Rebounding still sore spots||
However, you can't question this teams heart and guts
|2 weeks 2 days ago||GR III||
It is has been rough at times for him, but way to come up huge.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||For once, there wasn't contact there||
That one is all on Nik.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Have to finish that Nik||
I defended him somewhat tonight, but come the fuck on. There wasn't even contact that time.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||He heard you||
It is pretty bizarre, how reluctant he is to dunk it.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Yes||
Though, I wouldn't count on getting calls in OT.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Not a good look||
Too much time wasted, ended up getting backed into a corner.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||No it wasn't||
How is 90% body contact a bad call? He literally ran straight into Stauskas without coming close to getting all ball.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Shut the fuck up Purdue||
That was clearly a foul. They had gotten used to fouling Stauskas all night and getting away with it.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||So intentionally become a non factor on offense?||
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Bullshit||
Walton and others have gotten some calls tonight, with less contact than what Stauskas has been receiving.Would you rather have Stauskas go into turtle mode, and allow shit officiating to take away any shred of agressiveness?
Sorry, you're post is just bullshit.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||What is supposed to do?||
He is the team's leading scorer, he has to be agressive. You can't become passive because of shit officiating.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Is there a no foul call policy on Stauskas tonight?||
How the fuck does a contender for the conference player of the year not get more respect from the officials?
|2 weeks 2 days ago||What the fuck does Stauskas have to do to get a foul called?||
He has been getting hammered all night.
It's not like no UM players have got those calls. Walton has gotten to line with less contact a couple different times.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Rebound the damn ball||
They would ahead right now, with even average rebounding.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Agreed, if your going to foul||
try to do it hard enough so it not an AND 1. To be fair though, that may have been a phantom foul.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Bad rebounding and defense strike again||
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Wish GR III would stick exclusively||
to those mid range pullups, cuts and putbacks. He is effective when he doing those things.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Feel bad for Morgan at this point||
He seemingly picks up at least 2 BS fouls every game.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||One thing this team has constently shown this year is heart||
Hopefully, we see it again.
Edit: Looks like we are. That is a definatly a strength of Beilein, team displays poise.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||What?||
You're out of your mind if you think this was expected. Possible yes, expected no.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Your point about size is well taken||
However, small ball is becoming more common in college basketball , which makes it less of a disadvantage than in the past.
Also size does not 100% explain giving up a large number of uncontested jump shots every game. People can argue it all the want, but that is a simply a lack of effort. They are also horrible in terms of fighting through screens.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Should have been a AND 1||
Seen longer continuations given than that, this year.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||There are two ends of the floor||
Consistently bad defense is becoming a trend.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||He is not an unquestionable god||
He has done great things at UM, but you have to wonder about the consistent lack of rebounding and defense. Some of that is a clearly a lack of effort. Do you really believe this team doesn't have good enough athletes to better than horrible on the defensive end of the floor?
I mean, in past years we chalked it up to having less than optimal athletes, but now this team is better in that department and it is still a significant issue.
Obviously not worshipping everything Beilein related is clearly not accepted on this board. He is clearly the best coach this program has had in while, that still does not mean he is exempt from any criticism. It shouldn't fall 100% on the players.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Yes, because possibly blowing||
the Big Ten against a shit team is all sunshine and rainbows.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||BS||
Teams get those calls at a higher clip in our building.
In general, homecooking in college basketball may be the norm, but that doesn't mean it is not a horrible aspect of the sport. Sport would be better off if it changed, though I doubt that will ever happen. You don't see this bullshit in college football nearly as often.
With that said, while the officials aren't helping the way, the way UM is playing is the bigger problem tonight.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Really hoping they can win the Big Ten||
Because it is becoming obvious the chances of a deep run in the tourny like last year are not good. You have to a more well rounded team in order to do that.
Doubting this team will find what is lacking on the defensive end of the floor between now and then.I could understand it when they didn't have great athletes a couple of a years ago, but they have better athletes now.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||It might be because this||
team looks like they might blow the Big Ten title against a shit team. Just a thought.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Your seriously saying there hasn't been||
a lack of effort on the defensive end ? Of course it has been happening on defense all year, so we shouldn't be surprised at this point I suppose.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Put a fucking hand up and contest shots agressively||
Is that too much to ask somehow?
|2 weeks 2 days ago||That tends to happen when||
you're a horrible defensive team, that doesn't give a good consistent effort on that end of the floor.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||That tends to happen when||
you're a horrible defensive team, that doesn't give a good consistent effort on that end of the floor.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||No effort on defense again||
This team gives up a ton of easy looks every game. This team has good enough athletes to not play this bad on the defensive end of the floor, is clearly about effort.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Too early to get nervous huh?||
They look out of sorts right now.
Is it too much to ask for some effort on defense? I swear it seems like this team is not trying on that end of the floor at times.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||That ball was off Purdue||
I seriously hate college basketball officials. Why the fuck is it seemingly impossible for these guys to call a fair game? I love college basketball, but the homecooking is one aspect that I despise.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||What is with the bad starts lately?||
It is becoming a trend.
Stauskas was also clearly fouled on that drive though, typical Big Ten homecooking from the officials.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||The issue is that defense and||
rebounding has been a sore spot all year with this team. The defensive effort today was atrocious, plain and simple. Iowa was getting easy looks every time down the floor, without too much effort. The fact that poor defense and rebounding have been recurring issues points to a lack of effort and focus on the defensive end. This team has good enough athletes, to at least be average on the defensive end of the floor. Hopefully, this team gets it through their heads by the end of the year, that in order to be a legimate contender you need to put in a consistent effort in on both ends of the floor. Otherwise this team is going to be going home very early.
Also as far as calling out individual players, people do sometimes go too far, but there is nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade. Saying that GR III, for example, was awful today is calling a spade a spade. There is no reason to sugarcoat his performance or anybody else's performance for that matter (since he wasn't alone in that regard).
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Spike was also clearly fouled before the TO attempt||
Not giving Spike the TO was just ridiculous though, since there was no reason why he should not have been given it.
Beilein actually snapped a couple of minutes later, after Stauskas and Levert were hammered at the rim with no fouls being called.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||Levert and Stauskas getting hammered||
is what set him off ( and rightfully so). Not to mention Spike getting mauled and not being given a timeout by the ref standing right there a few minutes prior to that.
|6 weeks 6 days ago||I am going to echo the sentiments of others||
Based on doing something that no other team in the country can claim ( 3 straight wins over the top 10 teams) they deserve a top 10 ranking. Unfortunately, they will probally end up getting shafted by idiots who shouldn't have a vote and end up in the 10-15 range.
|10 weeks 7 hours ago||Um, what?||
They did. Though that's not saying much, OSU's defense is not a good unit.
|10 weeks 7 hours ago||How many times do they||
have to commend Miller for playing injured? As if he is the only player to ever play with an injury. Devin Gardner says welcome to my world for almost the entire season, Braxton.
|10 weeks 8 hours ago||That was the most bullshit explanation I||
have ever heard. Since when is finishing a clean hit in the chest a penalty? Football is seriously being ruined by this shit.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||Played well all things considered||
One of the few semi-bright spots in this entire game. Has a bright future, at the very least it seems like the QB is in pretty good shape next year with two talented guys at the position. One coming off a profilic performance against OSU and the other playing well in this game as a freshmen. I would still expect Gardner to be the starter, but it is nice when the backup can step in and play well.
Wish I could be as optimistic about the other positions (and coaching staff for that matter).
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Thought the same thing||
Didn'y look good to me, wish they would have shown a better angle.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Because the Big Ten is shit||
As much as I hate the SEC there is no way a team in this conference should go over a one loss SEC team. MSU has played a soft schedule, if they win this game it would there only win over a team still in the top 25. Meanwhile, Auburn has wins over two top 10 teams just within the last two weeks.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Why?||
A one loss team playing in the shitty Big Ten should not be put in over a one loss team in a better conference.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Not if they get blown out||
My ideal scenero would a OSU blowout that keeps MSU out of the Rose (feel dirty typing that). Then hope OSU gets embarrased in the title game against FSU.
|14 weeks 1 day ago||Bad Argument||
The digital downloadable versions are still there for people who want that option. That doesn't mean that option should be shoved down everybody's throat who still wants a physical disk.
Also the fact of the matter is the internet infastructure worldwide is not at the point where all digital makes sense for most people. The internet bandwith caps that some providers have alone would make downloading every gaming digitally very difficult. Also the harddrives on both consoles are not not equiped to hold a ton of digital games, since they are larger than their physical counterparts, at least so far. Many people also don't want to wait 2+ hours for a game to download either. Currently on the PS4 with a physical disk, it takes only 30-60 seconds after putting it in for enough data to be installed in order to start playing.
The way they have it now is perfect. Give people the option to download digital, but still allow physical since it is still the best option for most people at this point. MS original intent to all digital at this stage would have been a disaster.
As far as the other aspects of MS initial plans that were scrapped, there is no logical reason for why somebody should have to be connected to the internet in order to play the campaign/single player portion of a game. MS was also be shortsighted with the no used game stuff, since many people use trade ins of games they are finished with as means of buying new games.
Gamers aren't somehow wrong for not wanting to give up their rights as consumers of a product.
|14 weeks 1 day ago||Went with the PS4||
Have a Xbox 360 and PS3, but spent most of my time with 360. Decided to go with the PS4 this time around for these reasons:
1. More powerful system for games, and it really isn't close. People in this thread have been saying there is a slight difference, but the estimate from tech individuals is actually 50% more powerful at minimum, which is quite a difference for consoles releasing at the same time. The GPU (most important component for games) in the PS4 is superior to the one in the XB1. The numbers for the GPU'S have been released by both companies, they are what they are. We are already seeing games run at higher resolutions on PS4, and I would expect framerates to be better on the PS4 moving forward. Muliplatform games should be better on the PS4.
2. $100 less.
3. Don't care about Kinect, and don't feel like being forced to pay for it in the box now that it isn't required for the system to function. Might be interested down the line if MS releases a cheaper option without Kinect.
4. TV features/integration on the XB1 are nice, but honestly when I am playing a game I am doing it at a time where I am not interested in watching tv/or doing other things and would not be flipping back and forth anyways. Most of the apps I have any interest in (Netflix, etc.) are on both.
5. Free to play game support on the PS4. Currently playing Warframe (originally a PC game) and having a blast. Planetside 2, which is supposed to be pretty good is coming soon as well. It is true, that F2P games try to encourage you to spend real money, but you can still have fun and unlock most things in the game without paying a dime.
6. DS4 controller is big improvement or me. The 360 controller was my prefered controller, but the improved triggers, altered sticks, and slightly bigger size of the DS4 make a big difference. Only two complaints are battery life is awful compared to DS3, and the bright mostly pointless LED light (since I am not looking down while playing) should have an option to be shut off.
7. Developers on PS4. Most notably Naughty Dog (Uncharted, The Last of Us, which is my personal game of the generation), along with the devs who make MLB The Show since that is the only sports game that I think is worth anything right now.
Also just as side note anybody saying there isn't a big difference in graphics between next gen and current gen needs to check out Killzone Shadow Fall. The graphics for both systems should also get better as time goes, it happens in every generation. Compare early PS3/360 to more recent PS3/360 games, the difference is staggering. With a game like Killzone looking as good as it does at launch, I can't wait to see what games will look like a couple a years from now.
|14 weeks 2 days ago||NC hands down||
Even as a bigger fan of football, a NC championship over a win that still would have resulted in a 8-4 season is a no brainer. As much as I hate OSU, a win would not have changed the fact that the football teams season was a failure. Chances to win championships don't come along too often. The football team, on the other hand, gets to play Ohio State every year.
|14 weeks 3 days ago||It's 8 games into the season||
It is a bit premature to write this team off. They clearly have some things that need to get straightened out, there is still time to do that though. This is not college football where a couple of losses can ruin your whole season.
|14 weeks 3 days ago||Coach K acting like an prick||
Despite being up 16 late, god I hate Duke.
Offense has just been so disjointed tonight, hope the b-ball season doesn't turn into a massive disapointment like the football season. Still time to get things straightened out, but clearly Burke's loss is a huge problem right now. If this team is going to improve McGary and Robinson have to become larger focal points and be more agressive.
|14 weeks 3 days ago||Gardner accounted for 30+ tds this season||
Trying to argue that people are being blinded by one good game (it was better than good BTW) is absurd. It is not like the good things Devin did this year, occured all in one game. Nobody is going to argue that the two biggest improvements Devin needs to make in the offseason are getting rid of the ball when neccassary and cutting down on turnovers, that much is obvious. To act as though he also didn't make his fair share of good to great plays is ludicrious, though.
He was a first full year starter, trying to essentially carry a team without a running game. That is not a reasonable thing to expect. For you to sit there and try and downplay his great and gutsy performance against OSU after the beating he took this year flat out pisses me off. You talk about the screens inflating his yardage, while ignoring the of plays where Devin made something out of nothing. The level of criticism leveled at him by some questionable fans such as yourself, has been over the top. As if a QB in his first full year starting, with not enough help around him, having issues with consistency is really surprising.
|14 weeks 3 days ago||Is that supposed to be attractive?||
She looks like a corpse in that pic. Wouldn't kill her to eat something once and awhile.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||They better not overturn this||
It would pretty much confirm conspiracy if they do.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||No way it should have standed either||
They showed a still shot with his knee down and the ball still in his hands multiple times.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||No way it should have standed either||
They showed a still shot with his knee down and the ball still in his hands multiple times.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||Fucking bullshit||
He was fucking down and they know it. Gave OSU a short field. Love the bias OSU broadcast, not saying that refs were wrong. They showed a fucking still shot with the ball still in his hands , and his knee down.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||Bullshit||
He was down.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||Thanks||
That's what I figured. Still have to wonder about the safety position if there are no injuries back there. Furman didn't look good against Nebraska, and he has been out of position today as well.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||Why is Furman back there?||
I hate singling out individual players, but he has been out of position 3 different times. Is there an injury back there?
Also is Gedeon playing for somebody? I know Ross and Morgan left the Iowa game. I assume one or both them are out?
All in all though being tied is more than most of us expected, though I hate playing it conservative at the end of the half when you're the team with nothing to lose.
|15 weeks 3 days ago||People still defending the offensive coaching staff||
are the sane ones. Now, that is funny.
|15 weeks 3 days ago||Yes, because not expecting to be||
second to last in TFL allowed is such an unreasonable expectation. Expecting more than one legimate td drive in 4 games is also an unreasonable expectation. Absolute nonsense to try and suggest that fans are demanding too much. The offense has been awful, to the point where youth can not be the only explanation.
I agree with people who think Hoke should get a little more time, but I honestly can't believe that there are people trying to defend the offensive coaching staff by argueing that fans are being irrational or expecting too much. As if expecting better than god awful is some outlandish request.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||Devin has scored 27 tds this season||
Acting as though only negative things can happen with the ball in his hands is ridiculous. He has been inconsistent, that doesn't mean he hasn't done any positive things.
The funny thing is when they did put the ball in his hands later in the game at the goalline they did score a td. Putting the ball in the hands of somebody who has accounted for 27 tds is the better alternative than running behind a horrible o-line.
Keep posting nonsense though.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||Devin has accounted 27 tds||
He is still raw in some respects, however the talent is clearly there. He showed it against ND (excluding that one bad play).
Definatly commend the guy for the heart and fight he has shown. Not fair to ask a guy in his first full year starting to be the entire offense, while getting hammered behind a horrible offensive line.
Hopefully if they go with a new offensive staff next year, he can develop and gain his confidence back. The potential to be a very good QB is there, he just needs to become more consistent. Some help from an actual running game, and better coaching would be beneficial.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||Wing eating contest among coaches in pressbox||
Seriously, though I would spread Ohio out and go with short quick passes/screens, with an occasional draw mixed in. Target Gallon and Funchess as often as possible, to maximize their touches.
Though, I know Al won't do that exclusively, so I guess bang your head against the wall trying to run some power type plays hoping fruitlessly that the wall somehow breaks
|15 weeks 5 days ago||He was talking about offensive starters specifically||
While his numbers may be slightly off the overall argument is still valid, there are other teams that are doing more with less. Weisman was a scout team FB for Iowa at the start of the last year, for example.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||And how many tds would they have if you||
took away Devin's 27 tds, which is twice as many as anybody else. Keep bagging on the guy though.
If you took a minute to get your head out your ass, you would realize that despite his deficiencies in certain areas Devin has been one of the few consistent playmakers on this entire offense all season.
You know what though keep shifting all the blame away from Al, who is grown man paid to be an OC, to berate a college player who has been battered and bruised all season while being asked to be the entire offense. Real classy.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||No talent?||
Less than optimal talent/experience sure. But no talent, that is just flat out nonsense.
I am really starting to think you may be Al Borges, that is the only explanation for that level of nonsense.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||It wasn't a completely worthless excuse now or in 2008||
However, you're comparing apples to oranges. That was the first year with a brand new offensive system and different expectation level in general.
Also, despite Gardner's turnover and confidence issues he is far more talented than either Threet and Sheridan were in 2008. Gallon and Funchess are also a better receiving combo than the 2008 team had.
Also I would like to point out that the 2008 team averaged 3.9 yards per carry, this team is at 3.3 or so. That is pretty damning by itself, though some of that is sacks.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||The last Big 10 title UM won was in 2004||
The idea that UM fans are somehow just impatient, given that fact is nonsense. The level of peformance has been disappointing people for an extended period of time at this point.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||The overall offense stats are inflated by a couple||
of outliers though. The stats put up Indiana's beyond awful defense being the most obvious.The offense has generated one legimate td drive, without the aid of defensive turnover, in the last 4 games. This offense has been every bit as bad as the 2008 offense in the last 4 games.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||Last in the country in negative yardage plays||
Also mutiple games of negative rushing yardage. Find me the last Michigan team who could claim those awful stats and I will agree they aren't historically bad. Though I guess I should have said historically bad in certain aspects to more precise.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||Not calling pointless PA||
in obvious passing situations would be a nice start.
|15 weeks 5 days ago||Juggernaut?||
Who is asking for a juggernaut offense? You're talking about an offense that is not even bad, but is a flat out trainwreck. Some of that is in fact personal/youth issues, but when an offense is historically bad there is no way that some of it is not due to bad coaching/playcalling.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||Coaches and players ultimately control what happens on the field||
Taking focus away from where it should be, to try and label fans who are understandably frustrated at this point as fairweather is nonsense.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||Expressing displeasure does not equal abandoning||
Most of us are on this site because we are extremely passionate about UM football/athletics. There are some fairweather fans just like any fanbase, but most of the displeasure is from people who will not stop supporting the team, and are understandably frustrated with the program not being up to the standards established by past greats like Bo, for several years now.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||On a related note I just saw||
a Honda commercial that was talking about giving a free car to people if UM shutout OSU. That gave me a good laugh.
Seriously though, normally I am one to say anything can happen in college football, but is it just not happening with the current state of the offense. I think the bigger question is whether OSU backs off once they have the game in hand or tries to run up the score. As others have said this is not 1969.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||Normally I enjoy watching non-UM games||
This year though, my general interest in college football has been killed by UM's performance. Probally because watching other games makes UM's issues even more depressing in comparison.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||Good riddance||
Get the hell out with that nonsense. Questioning whether people are real fans, because they are justifiable questioning certain aspects of this coaching staff in what has been an ugly season.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||PAC 12 >>>>>> Big 10 this year||
No way UM would be 7-4 in the PAC 12. Also last I checked UM doesn't have a win over a single top 25 team, and nearly lost to UCONN and Akron. Losing to WSU(who actually has 5 wins) 24-17 is not nearly as bad.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||In a superior conference||
You can't compare those records one to one. The Big 10 is a dogshit compared to the PAC-12 this year. UM also doesn't even have a win over a top 25 team.
You are right on your second point though, it is past history, and RR was not succesful here. It is still disgenous to try and compare records when one team is clearly playing in the better conference though.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||While, we could of possibly had Casteel||
If the athletic department would have backed up the assistant coach money truck earlier. Unless people honestly believe he wasn't coming to Michigan under any circumstances, but yet decided to go to Arizona along with RR.
Of course, that is past history and there is nothing anybody can do about it now.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||And UM almost lost to Akron and UCONN||
So what is your point? WSU has at least won 5 games in a tough conference.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||In a much better conference though||
PAC 12, at worst, is the second best conference this year. UM would easily have a couple more losses in the PAC- 12.
Also UM has no win that compares to hammering the #5 ranked team.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||Why is that surprising?||
You have to be physical to run the ball successfully in any offense. Not sure what is with the misnomer that spread teams don't have to play physically in the trenches.
Clearly Arizona is a very good running team, there is a reason Kadeem Carey has put up the stats he has and is considered a potential high draft pick.
|15 weeks 6 days ago||He wasn't talking about the entire era though||
He was only refering to the state of the team in year 3 under both staffs. It is a perfectly valid argument, that they are in fact not any better off right now. They essentially traded a mess of a defense for a mess of a offense, don't see how that is any better.
About the only thing you could argue is that the young talent is probally better, but if you matched up this UM team against the 2010 team I think it would be a push.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Hope that was sarcastic||
First road game for a somewhat young team, it happens. They will most likely get better in those situations as the season goes along, and be where people think they should be by the end of the season.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Not too concerned||
Young team in a hostile environment for the first time this season, not worried about this team long-term. I think they will still be a clear cut top ten caliber team by the end of the season.
NCAA tournament is about where you are at the end of the year.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Based on what exactly?||
Because I posted displeasure about the officiating in this thread, doesn't mean I am freaking out about this team prospects three games into the season though.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Get out||
Seriously, leave. Doom and gloom 3 games in, get out with that shit.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Plenty of season for somebody to become that guy||
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Alternative suggestion||
This homecourt nonsense in college basketball needs to go away altogether. Why do the people running college b-ball just give the refs a free pass on it? It is not like it is impossible to call a fair game, if they wanted to.
Of course that is probally never going to happen since people give the refs are free pass on it, so your suggestion is the next best option.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Fuck these officials||
Why is this homecourt nonsense seemingly accepted in college basketball? The refs have got a free pass on it forever, people should demand better.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Why would you say that?||
I think it is safe to assume that this program is in very good shape moving forward, the level of play the last couple of years is not some fluke.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Considering they have now||
gone three straight games scoring 13 or fewer points in regulation I don't see what gives you any confidence that this offense can score on anybody. O-line is still bad, Borges is thick headed, and Gardner has lost quite a bit of his confidence at this point. OSU's defense is still better than both NW's and Nebraska's, who both were able to shut down UM's offense.
I will agree the run game was slightly better this week, but the pass pro was still atrocious in picking up blitzes.In all likelyhood the game against OSU will get ugly.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Overreact much?||
Calm down, this will be very good team by the end of the season.
|16 weeks 5 days ago||Typical homecourt bullcrap from the refs||
Have they even called a foul on ISU? They have gotten away with some blatent shoves under the basket on rebounds.
And than they turn around a call weak fouls on UM.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Can't criticize the defense too much||
However, they have had a annoying tendency to not close out games on drives that could win the game this season.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||His confidence has been destroyed||
By all the sacks and AL's inept playcalling. He is also only a second year QB (in terms of actual playing experience) who is still learning.
He is what he is at this point. An extremely gifted player from a raw physical standpoint, with the potential to be really good with more experience, and a better offense around him. I don't think anybody could dispute that he is still raw in certain areas of his game, and is making too many mistakes right now.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Special teams staff, yes||
Everybody else, no.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Props to the field goal unit||
Getting tackled in bounds was a disaster, they somehow salvaged it. Big props to Gibbons.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Confidence has been destroyed by||
o-line issues and AL's playcalling. I agree he hasn't been good the last 3 weeks, but it is understandable that his confidence is lacking, given those circumstances.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||So that is what Hoke does during the game||
Pointless clapping, good to know.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Al should be fired on the spot after this game (Funk too)||
Rest of the season is fucked anyways, might as well get it over with as fast as possible.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||So was Hoke telling the||
truth when he said he liked the playcalling last week? Or maybe he is just clueless when it comes to offense.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||How many times have we seen that play from||
that formation this year? More than I can count. Somehow Borges thinks it will suprise NW though. Guy is indefensible at this point.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||What the fuck Al?||
It didn't work the first time, just tipping plays at this point.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Something I am wondering||
Has a Michigan team ever been held to 13 or fewer points in three straight games?
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Ridiculous post||
Hard to do what you're asking when he is being hamstrung by a horrible o-line and OC who has destroyed his confidence with his playcalling.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Rush game has been slightly better||
Blitz pickup/pass pro has still been a tire fire though.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||????||
Was that sarcastic?
|16 weeks 6 days ago||What the hell was the point of the PA?||
No reason for it, serves no purpose in that situation.
Devin looks flat out shellshocked from all the sacks, not making confident throws.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||Good job Al||
Run into a 10 man box, yep, that is going to work.
Gardner also looks bad today, think the sacks are starting to take their toll mentally.
|16 weeks 6 days ago||He is when he doesn't have three guys surrounding him||
That one is on Al, completely predictable playcall. How many times have they run that exact play from that look? Not going to fool anybody at this point.
|17 weeks 4 days ago||Gardner is most likely the QB next year||
It would make no sense taking snaps away from his development either at this point.
The people calling for Gardner to benched are out of their minds. Some people excuse the o-line troubles based on youth, but yet fail to realize that Gardner hasn't even started two full years at QB yet. He is still in the beginning stages of his career as a QB.
He has shown flashes of greatness throughout the season, he just needs to become more consistent. He has accounted for 20+ tds this year. Having an actual running game to help out would go a long way as well.
I just wonder who in their right mind would believe any QB would excel consistently given the current state of the offense. There is a real chance that a less mobile QB like Morris would end up getting seriously hurt, behind this awful o-line.
|17 weeks 4 days ago||Clearly you didn't quite undestand what I was saying||
Why you think Hoke can't sidestep throwing Borges under the bus, while still letting people know they are looking for ways to improve the playcalling is beyond me. It is not rocket science to manuever his way around that situation, that doesn't come across to fans as him saying that everything is fine and dandy with the playcalling.
I gave a perfectly viable example for how Hoke (as have a couple others in this thread) could have answered the question, while straddling both sides of the equation. It is not impossible to do so, despite what you may think.Clearly Hoke isn't going to do that though, so I look forward to hearing him say the exact same thing a couple more times this season.
The thing is I wouldn't care what Hoke was saying publicly if the playcalling was being adressed behind closed doors, but judging by the last couple of weeks I question if that is taking place. As I said actions speak louder than words.
|17 weeks 4 days ago||Not an A/V person by any stretch||
Not sure I buy this explanation, but obviously I can't claim any expertise in this area.
|17 weeks 4 days ago||Why does he have to mention Al by name?||
He could simply say as a staff that they are looking into possible adjustments moving forward. That would not be throwing Al under the bus or singling him out. The bullshit coachspeak Hoke continues to use week in and week out, is getting tiresome to say the least. It may deflect some criticism of Al, but all it is doing is causing that to be redirected at Hoke himself. One of those guys has a higher chance of not being here next year.
Like I said, Hoke has to be smart enough to realize that spouting bullshit and insulting fans intelligence in the process is only going to make them angrier.
Not to mention there is a chance he does actually believe what he saying, considering the playcalling has pretty much stayed the same most of the season. It sure doesn't look like many adjustments have made behind closed doors. Actions normally speak louder than words. I do that is the less likely to be the case, but you can't rule out the possibility that he is being genuine entirely.
|17 weeks 4 days ago||My personal take on your question||
Anytime you have one guy trying to account for both the QB and RB on an option that is bad situation. The optimal outcome would have one guy taking away the inside cutback from the QB, while another free defender comes over to cover the pitch. I don't think it is fair to pin that play on Clark. It is possible for one guy to take both away if he plays it perfectly, but that is very hard to do. He did force Armstrong to hold on to it for an extra second before pitching it, in the ideal outcome that would given other defenders time to get out on the pitch.
As Brian noted the playcall was the major problem, they only had 6 guys in the box and were shaded to the wrong side to cover the option to that side. That play was somewhat doomed for failure from the start and it led to no help coming for Clark on that play. Personally I think UM should have stacked the box on that play, and dared Nebraska to throw the ball.
|17 weeks 4 days ago||I don't think he it is a either/or situation though||
I don't expect him to rip his OC publicly, but that doesn't mean he has to act like everything is fine and dandy with the playcalling either. He could phrase his answer in way that indicates it could be better or that they are looking to make possible adjustments, without ripping Borges in a direct manner.
If he is lying (which seems most likely), the answer he gave is pretty much insulting the intelligence of the fans. Does he expect people to honestly believe what he is saying?
|17 weeks 4 days ago||Going to echo the thoughts of others||
I really hope Hoke truely doesn't believe this, otherwise this program may be looking for a whole new staff within the next couple of years. He is either in denial, clueless or is just trying to cover for Borges.
|17 weeks 5 days ago||Gardner is most likely the QB next year||
He is too dynamic of a player to not have the ball in his hands as often as possible. He has made strides in recent weeks with cutting down on turnovers, and last I checked has accounted for 20+ touchdowns this year (something he wouldn't be able to do at WR).
Do people not understand that Devin has not even started two full years yet at QB? He will most likely make significant improvements next year to become a more consistent player. He does need to learn to throw the ball away more, but that is not something that can not be improved on. To throw him under the bus in not even his second full year when he has no running game to support him, is being coached by a predictable OC and is playing behind an awful o-line is borderline ridiculous.
Also his mobility has created alot of plays out of nothing this year (though it has created some negative ones as well). Those positive plays made out of nothing would not have occured with a less mobile QB back there.
Morris will get his shot in 2015, UM doesn't need to throw another inexperienced QB out there. That has happened far too often in recent years.
|17 weeks 5 days ago||On what planet was the o-line borderline ok?||
Seven sacks allowed and 29 yards on 22 carries if you remove the sacks. This was against a Nebraska team who has allowed 5+ yards a carry to pretty much everybody.
I appreciate people trying to look for silver linings, but there is no sugercoating how awful the o-line has been this year and most notably the last two weeks. None of the RB's (Fitz or Green) missed multiple holes, because they did not exist.
|17 weeks 5 days ago||Says quite a bit about the state of this team||
Dogs to a team that is in meltdown mode, and has no conference wins. Though I guess since homefield is usually worth about 3 points, it is closer to a push.
|17 weeks 5 days ago||Absolutely Not||
This team's goal before the season was to reach the Big Ten title game, there are still 3 games left and that goal is already gone. It may help take some of the sting off the season should a miracle occcur against OSU, but this season is already a failure if you go by what the stated goals of the team were.
Somebody already said it, but stating otherwise is basically the same line of thinking that we made fun of MSU fans for having in the past, by the outcome of one game somehow making their season a success. The bigger goals are gone for this team, regardless of what happens against OSU.
|17 weeks 5 days ago||Unreasonable expectations?||
How the hell is it unreasonable to not expect a team to go two straight games with negative rushing yards. Regardless of any excuse you want to throw out there, that shouldn't happen. Nebraska's rush defense coming into the game was giving 5+ yards a carry on the season, with some of those games coming against what should be less talented teams than UM.
Also is it unreasonable to expect even a tiny bit of improvement throughout the season? Not only has this team not made improvements, but they have regressed instead.
Nobody was expecting this team to win a national championship, but it was not unreasonable for this team's goal to be to reach the Big Ten title game. That goal is completely gone with three games still left in the season. If some people want to continue to bury their head and the sand, and try and claim unreasonable expectations or make other excuses that is of course their prerogrative, but back in reality the rest of us will wonder what the hell has gone wrong with the team this year.
Changes most likely need to be made on the coaching staff, whether that means an entire clean of the offensive staff or a more limited change such as letting Funk go as o-line coach is of course the million dollar question. Just don't try and shield the coaching staff behind nonsense about unrealistic expectations, when that is clearly not the case. This is a 6-3 team that could easily be 3-6, despite playing a weak schedule and in a garbage conference. You can't sugercoat that.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Funk would have to go along with Borges||
O-line issues should fall on Funk and Borges' shoulders, youth alone can not explain how bad that unit has been at this point.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Who in this thread was asking for a national title this season?||
That isn't the problem, the problem is how far this team is from even being in that conversation. This is a 6-3 team playing in an awful conference, who could easily be 3-6 right now instead. Two games in a row with negative rushing yards, one against a Nebraska defense who was hemoraging rushing yards all year. The goal for this team was to reach the Big Ten title game, and they are now eliminated from contention with three games still left in the season.
In short, get you're head out of the fucking sand.The people trying to act like everything is fine and dandy are the ones being irrational. This team is not where people thought they would be in Year 3 under this staff, it is perfectly rational to discuss whether the current staff will get this program to where they want to go.
I do agree with the notion that Hoke should probally be retained, but to sit there and act as though the whole staff deserves to be around next year without question is absurd.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Unfortunately, I was going to say the same thing||
Took a superhuman effort from Gardner to beat ND, and pulled games out of the fire against two terrible teams in Akron and UCONN. I do tend to agree with the rest of his post though, I think regardless of what happens to Hoke, there definately need to be changes on the offensive staff.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||So a player upset after a loss is having some drinks||
I fail to see you're point. Lewan is clearly frustrated, which is understandable at this point, and trying to blow off some steam.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Serious Question||
What gives you hope that this line will be competent any time soon, given how awful they are now ? Some of this can't simply be chalked up to only inexperience at this point, it is clear there are fundamental issues besides youth.
Maybe Al is a decent cordinator when he has overwhelming talent, but this team aspirations are to get to an elite level. I doubt he is the guy to get them there at this point. I do understand the o-line is difficult to deal with for Al, but at the same time he isn't helping matters with hard headed playcalling.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||That is the caveat||
I am fairly sure I want Al gone at this point, but the replacement has to be good enough to get this team to an elite level. Also like I said what Hoke wants and what the fans want may not be the same thing. Unfortunately, my gut tells me the most likely outcome is he sticks with Al, and the only person fired is Funk as o-line coach.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Honestly no idea at this point||
Some people would try and tell you it is simply a matter of time in terms of the youth growing up and accumlating more talent. I was onboard with that early in the season, but suffice to say I have lost faith at this point that more experience will make this team elite. I don't see much hope for next year that the o-line will be able to get anywhere close to competent. With road games at ND, MSU, OSU I don't like the outlook for next year.
Personally I would lean towards cleaning out the whole offensive staff at this point since I don't believe they are good enough to take this team where they want to go. The problem however, is whether Hoke is willing to do that and whether you could find a top notch offensive staff out there in the offseason. I am not sure the answer to both of those questions is yes.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||I can buy that against better||
defenses, but when terrible defenses are having their way with you there are clearly fundamental problems beyond just youth. Two negative yardage rushing games in a row shouldn't happen whether you are starting 5 seniors or a line without experience.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||While to be fair, I remember||
the offense moving the ball fairly well in that 2010 game against OSU. The problem was they sabotaged their own drives in that game with turnovers, penalties, etc.
He's right though, about UM's offense lacking any kind of coherence in playcalling that you see with the more well run offenses in the country.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Amazing what offenses can do when they actually||
|17 weeks 6 days ago||I don't either||
Still like to simple things like that be called right though. It was clear on the replay that he was at least a half a yard short. Spot was wrong by a full yard.The fact that the replay booth didn't change it even though it was clearly wrong is even worse. I don't remember seeing a year since I have been watching college football where spots have been wrong this often.
Not that the odds were in ND's favor even if they would have got the ball back with 20-30 seconds on the clock, but still a game shouldn't end on a spot that is clearly wrong.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||ND got screwed by that spot||
Pitt was clearly a half of a yard short. Seems like refs have been horrible this year spotting across college football, and worse yet it was somehow upheld on replay.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||You mean the one that||
turned over at a alarming rate last year and had a better o-line in front of him. Not to mention another 1,000 rusher along side him in the staff's first year. Don't get me wrong, Denard is one of my favorite UM players ever but let's not act like he did not have signficant drawbacks as a passer or was highly successful from a W-L standpoint.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Yes, because leading the Big||
Ten in total offense and accounting for 20+ td's coming into this game is somehow worse than this line. Get a grip.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Question for the people ripping Gardner||
Name me one QB who has ever been highly successful with no run game to help him out, and average receivers. It is not realistic to expect that from anybody.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Dammit Dileo||
Perfect throw, and ball went straight through his hands.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||He is still the equilivant of true||
sophomore in terms of actual playing experience. He also has no running game to help take the pressure off.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||The caveat is it is a mash unit Nebraska's offense||
Armstrong hasn't been able to pass the ball a lick, that has made things easier.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||There were only 5 defenders in the box||
I don't think help was coming, looked like they were playing pass. Poor playcall by Mattison, no idea why he was respecting the pass like that.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||What the hell was that?||
Why were there only 5 guys in the box on that play? Nebraska has not proved they can pass the ball so why are you respecting it Mattison?
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Which is the complete opposite of the last couple of years||
Defense was unsually good in those situations in 2011 and 2012.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Good thing Nebraska is a mash unit on offense||
Probally the only reason this is still a ballgame.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Should just stop running altogether at this point||
Whether it's Green or Fitz, this line just can't block anybody to open holes.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||To be fair to Fitz Schoefield was the||
primary blocker on that play, and completely whiffed. Still though, Fitz's blocking has been dreadful the last couple of weeks, I could have swore he has been a better blocker in the past.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||4 guys to meet the RB at the line||
|17 weeks 6 days ago||It did look like the WR dragged him down after falling||
Probally would have been an easy INT too.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||The quick passes that worked||
on the first drive of the half might be a good option.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Has a team ever finished with two negative||
rushing games in a row? -18 yards rushing for the game.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Worst offensive line ever||
Hard to imagine this line being anywhere near competent next year.
Borges can also go fuck off.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Has the o-line opened up one actual hole today?||
I just can't believe how bad the o-line is.
Sure looked like interference on Gallon there.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||RB trying to block DE, while Lewan blocks air||
Interesting play design there.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||TD!TD!TD!TD!TD!||
Sorry for getting overexcited, forgot what those looked like.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Watched every game of the||
3-9 season, so I think I can take it. Might end up driving me clinically insane though.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||I would think the odds would be low||
However, 6-6 in year 3 would be tough to swallow. Only way I could see Brandon doing that though, is if there is surefire name that he feels confident he can get. I think at the very least 6-6 would mean Brandon should scan the market to see what names are out there.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Are the receivers even making||
an attempt to come back to the ball to help Gardner out on scrambles? Only saw a couple of replays that showed the WR's downfield, but it sure didn't look like it on those plays.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||I don't think Gordon has been great||
Still though I don't see any logical reason for this unless he is injured or had another off the field violation. No idea why Avery would be playing over Wilson either.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||You asking for Morris to get||
killed if you put him out there behind this o-line. Henne had a o-line thatw was 100X better protecting him.
Also are people in their attempts to rip Gardner apart, forgetting that he still only the equilivant of a true sophomore in actual playing experience at QB. Who just happens to be playing behind a god awful o-line, and only has two viable WR targets to work with.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||What are you smoking?||
Unless the interception happens 20+ yards downfield, than yes it is almost always worse to throw a pick.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Funk needs to be gone at the bare minimum||
No way around it as this point.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||So he can get literally killed behind this O-line?||
If an athletic QB is taking a beating already, what do you think would happen to a less mobile QB?
|17 weeks 6 days ago||And you can't tell that how?||
You couldn't even see any of the receivers from the camera angle, but yet you somehow know Butt was open.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Is that suprising?||
He is probally still extremely sore from last week.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Did people ever think||
that maybe AL is just not a big fan of audibles in general, regardless of the QB? Also even if Devin had the free reign to audible at will, it is hard to do so when you don't get plays in quicker and get to line with the clock under 10 almost every time.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Except for the fact that he did||
it all night against ND.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Don't think he has free reigns to do so||
Even if he did though it is hard to have time to actually audible, when you spend so much time in the huddle and have less than 10 seconds when you get to the line.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||When exactly is there a hole?||
1% of the time? I could see getting Green more carries to prepare for next year, but anybody expecting any better results is dilusional. Green is averaging 3.3 YPC this season to Fitz's 3.7
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Fitz is averaging 3.7 YPC to Green's 3.3 YPC on the season||
If you want to rip apart Fitz for bad pass protection that is fair, but don't act like Green has somehow been better in his limited time. Green hasn't exactly been great at breaking tackles, which was expected of him.
The bottom line is if you can't block it doesn't matter who is running the ball.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||The people who are calling||
for Green realize he is only averaging 3.3 yards on a carry on the season, right? If you can't block it doesn't matter who is getting the carries.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Except for the fact that||
he came into this game averaging lower YPC than Fitz somehow. Might help in pass pro, but people are being delusional if they think any RB on the roster is some magic bullet for no blocking upfront.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Might help in pass protection, but I doubt any||
RB will able to run behind this shitshow of an o-line.
|17 weeks 6 days ago||Is it crazy to ask for some improvement from||
the beginning of the season to the end of season? Almost seems like it is with this team at this point.
