You're right that no player would skate off in that situation or just lay on the ice.  Hockey players are tough and accountable to their teammates.  Saying he is just standing there isn't recognizing how much effort it took just to get up and wave his stick around.  The picture is comparing hockey to basketball in terms of toughness.

I was most likely to succeed in my high school class (albeit a class of 62), and had really solid test scores.  My grades, for the most part, were underwhelming.

I applied early to Holy Cross.  Growing up in Central Mass I'd always had a great deal of respect for that school.  I also applied to Villanova, BC, Lehigh, and Fairfield.  I was deferred to regular admission at Holy Cross and ultimately rejected.  Villanova and Lehigh placed me on waitlists that I never got off.  BC flat out rejected me.  The last school that I heard from was the school I wanted to attend the least, Fairfield University.  Thankfully they accepted me.  I always think that if my late father wasn't an alum I might not have been headed to any college in the Fall of 2001.

I'd like to say I learned my lesson and got really good grades at Fairfield but I basically mirrored my high school career of underperformance.  I'm ok with that, I guess.  Some people just aren't good at being students and I was one of them.  Either that or I was lazy.  I started out as a math major because calulus came easily to me.  Eventually I realized that the more abstract courses were going over my often hungover head.  I switched to Econ because it left more room for bullshit.

Things went pretty well for me in Southwestern CT.  I'm glad that I got to share a common experience with my father.  We had a lot of fun rooting for Fairfield hoops together and Fairfield football before they cut the program when I was a sophomore.  When I started following Michigan Football religiously I had a moment of regret for not applying to UM.  Then, I did some research and realized I likely wouldn't have been admitted there either.

I wish 18 year old MAgoBLUE could have read this post and seen that things worked out ok.  Despite my lack of preparation the college search was important to me and I took myself pretty serious back then.

You're going to be frequently disappointed if you use Texas as your expectation for national football fandom.  Especially in comparison to Connecticut.  Now women's basketball on the other hand. . . 

I'm not ready to say he'd be the best player in our secondary.  McCourty has shown some things at safety and Talib is a very solid corner on the field if not off the field.  But yeah, Kovacs could certainly make the team.

Fairfield grad here.  Lax is by far our best sport and the team is pretty good this year.  For Michigan to compete like that on the road against us is a good sign for the young program.  With the resources and reputation of Michigan and the growing popularity of lax around the country it's only a matter of time before you pass us by either in the ECAC or eventually in a B1G Lax conference.  (Sigh. . .)

As for the artcile, I've been enjoying it and the comments all week since Jason Kirk tweeted about it on Monday.  I went to college in the town next to Wesport and this type of party would be very typical for the residents of Connecticut's "Gold Coast".  As others have noted, it doesn't sound like a bad party, just not a good tailgate.  Also, in my opinion you can't have a tailgate at your house.  That would be considered a BBQ.  Without a car there is no tailgate.

I'd expect this type of behavior from the Common Man but I thought Torg was better than this.

I was in D.C. for work a couple of weeks ago and a coworker offered to let me use her map and travel guide of the city.  I figured I could just use the internet for that information but didn't want to be rude so I took the stuff and thanked her.  Of course I left it in my hotel room and today after work I have to go buy a new book and map for her.  Totally sucks.

As someone said above, the actual jersey and pants aren't too bad.  Our clowniforms against MSU last year were worse.  It's when you consider what they did to that iconic helmet that the real tragedy begins to take shape and you realize that we could have had it so much worse.  Please no more crazy uniforms and don't ever touch the helmets.

I'm not only entertained by goals.  I like the "build up" as you say.  However, if no goals are scored for 2 straight games and 4 hours of total running time I start to wonder how they can maybe improve the quality of the product.

There are unlimited subs in American sports and there's still plenty of strategy.  There would be ways to prevent substitutions just for the sake of stalling and I'd argue that the official would be able to add that to the extra time at the end anyway.

Trust me, I'm a soccer fan.  I grew up playing the sport.  I've been glued to every World Cup since America '94.  I'm an Arsenal fan and have attended 2 of their games.

I wish Dave Brandon could have been at the bar I was at for the MSU game last year.  I took quite a bit of shit from people who didn't have a dog in the fight just based on how ridiculous we looked in the bumble bee uniforms.

Providence is a nice mid-sized city. They put a lot of work into redeveloping the downtown area about 10 years ago and it really paid off. Waterfire is a nice weekly event on the river in the summer. It may sound stupid but Providence Place Mall is really cool. It's under an hour to Boston and the Cape. Rhode island is a very quirky place in general but I think that adds to its charm. I'd say go for it. Brown is obviously a great school too.
