I was crushed, but I have to be honest . . . I'm still not sure we would have won the game without that call.  The call happened with 5 minutes left in the game, not 5 seconds.  

It put them up five.  We still had time to get some stops and get back in it, but we could not get stops.  That's why we lost.

Sometimes you have to give the other team some credit.  Louisville played outstanding to win, and we forced them to have to play outstanding to win.  No shame in that.

Aren't GA student tickets all season tickets?  If so, then to oversell them, DB has to oversell season tickets.  

It will work great for Indiana games when half the students will stay home.  But for Ohio State when they all want to go to the game . . . .not so much. You can't just give them a voucher for a future flight for the biggest game of the year.

Yeah, we did just fine in the Big Two-Little Eight era in the '70s and 80s when OSU was the only compelling game and it was not at home half the years.  We still drew 100,000.

I thought the top teams from the East and the West were supposed to play each other?  If we are not playing Wisconsin, we should be playing Nebraska.

Long run, we'll be grateful for splitting OSU and PSU.  They will be our toughest competition, more than MSU.

I gotta say, for 14 year old kids playing 7 on 7 football in Denmark, it looks remarkably organized.  They look better than a lot of American high school teams.  And Purdue.

We get a lot of mileage out of "Winningest College Football Program of All Time".  It's even painted on the side of our equipment truck.

Now we are in danger of losing the Winningest % part of that title to Notre Dame.  While we are playing the B1G East and the top half of the B1G West and a strong OOC opponent every year, they will be playing a cherry picked schedule of ACC teams.  They will never play Florida State, Clemson, and VaTech all in the same year. 

I wish him well and hope he finds a spot where he is happy.  He came here with best intentions.  Sometimes it does not always work out exactly as planned, but that's OK.  There is no one single path to success in life.

What is amazing is that I'm starting to see a lot of our successful recruits have an Alabama offer.  

Granted, we are not (yet) in the position where we are going to consistently pull a kid out of the heart of SEC country that Alabama really wants, but I am also no loger in dread of one of our recruiting base recruits having an Alabama offer.  The game is not automatically over.

The times they are a changing . . . many recruits would like to take their time and check out schools during the fall and then do the hat dance at a January all star game.  But it's getting to the point that unless you are a can't miss 5-star, you risk missing out completely.  

Coaches are not waiting anymore to fill out their classes early, save for the afore mentioned can't miss 5-star.  Very few recruits have the luxury of dragging out the process into their senior year.  I wonder how many of the recruits that you see comitting on or around NSD were already comitted to their school, just not publically?

As a hub city, DTW helps a ton.  I live on the east coast, and I am always amazed at how easy it really is to get to A2.  Much easier than most places are that require an airplane trip.  Also, the fares are pretty good . . . the hub thing again.

I'm not sure that the move to the Big Ten was a good one for Nebraska football.  Actually, I'm pretty sure it was a bad one.

They lose their annual presence in TX which is a key recruiting ground for any Big XII team.  Now they are just an out-of-the-way team that is out of sight out of mind in TX.  They are reduced to having to fight for scraps in OH after OSU, Michigan, and even MSU are done there.

Nebraska must have really hated the University of Texas to put themselves in this postiton.

And Madison is not that far from heavily populated areas like Chicago.

I really did not like this quote in the article:

It was in a section discussing the players' improprieties and Ed Martin's run ups with the law.  It made it sound like Traylor was involved in some kind of illegal activity when he died.  

He died of a heart attack.  Why leave that detail out if you are going to all the trouble to mention where he died and how he was found?

If you did not know he died of a heart attack, the article makes it sound (purposely?) like he died of a drug overdose or a gang murder.

We're still hearing from Jalen Rose years after his national fame at Michigan.  He went on to have a successful pro career.  Now he's a broadcaster.  Without the nation-wide exposure he gained playing college Basketball, would we have ever heard of him at all?  He'd be working at an auto factory somewhere . . . if he was really really lucky.  

And then is the trivial matter of a free top-level education, assuming these poor exploited athletes bother to take any classes.

The requirements are artificial and expand to take up whatever money comes in.  If Bill Gates were to decide that his salary requirements are all of the money Microsoft brings in, then Microsoft is not going to show a profit either.

You bring up a good point.  Have you ever seen a horse flop during a soccer game?  Has anyone?  No, nobody has.  Because. They. Just. Don't. Do. It.  The deterrent is too strong.

This needs to be extended to humans by FIFA.  You flop more than once during a match, you are put down.  Euthanized right there on the pitch.  Keep the game moving.

Nobody's going to call a phantom foul in Pitino's horse's favor with 5 furlongs left just because it looks like he touched the rail.  Call the foul, not the motion.

Does the NCAA even allow a scrimmage between two different programs outside of the regular season?

If not, one interesting option might be to have a "fall" game that is like the Spring game, but is held the Saturday before the regular season starts.  It would generate a lot of interest (that means revenue Dave!) due to its timing and the weather.  It would give the players a simulated game experience and be a nice way to wrap up the end of practice.  Injuries would be minimized since your own guys won't be trying to tear your head off. 

I have to admit it, I think our court is boring.  

It should at least have an "official" yellow block M in a blue circle or something like that.

Yeah, I'm pretty pleased with where we ended up.

This ^ is why we are better off with the new arrangement.  Nobody in the new East has a built in advantage over us the way teams in the Legends Division currently do who do not play Ohio State in a given year.  

Not playing Ohio State is a huge gift for NEB this year, and they may very well win the Division because of it, even if we beat them head to head.

The marginally interested students are purchasing the tickets to get the Ohio State / ND / MSU games.  The rest they just skip.

There needs to be an easier way for the students to sell those other tickets to people who really want them.  Maybe a way to sell them back the the University who can then sell them on-demand to people who want to go.  None of this combersome validation stuff.

In fairness, they should announce but delay the GA policy 2 years so that the upperclassmen don't get screwed.

If you followed Michigan for a long time, you know how absurd the notion that Michigan would ever be Quarterback U was.  That was for Miami or BYU or UCLA.  Michigan?

On Monday Night Football one night in the '80's, a comment was made by one of the announcers to the effect of "There have been over 10,000 Touchdown passes throwrn in the NFL, and not one of them has been thrown by a Michigan Quaterback".

They should have announced but delayed the policy for two years so that current upperclassmen were not impacted.  If you are an incoming freshman and it's the policy when you come in, you don't really care.

It would be reasonable to ask them to delay this for two years.

I've been following Michigan sports since 1982.  There has never been a player as beloved as Denard Robinson in all that time.  Never.  It goes far beyond his exploits on the field.  We've had lots of great players on the field.  But never one so beloved for who he is and what he means to us.

We play and watch sports for glory.  By coming back to Michigan next year, Mcgary and GRIII will play for glory again.

They will see money when they go to the NBA, but they may never see glory again.  They could ride the bench or be on a bottom feeder team.  Unless they are hurting for the money, it will be there for them in another year.  But the glory may never come their way again.
