Hah, I remember that guy. Not going to say his last name, but his first name was Pete or Peter wasn't it?
Though he also burned the OSU band pretty hard. Someone posted a picture of an OSU band hat sitting in the middle of the field during their pregame. So what ensued was the Great Chinstrap Debate of (whatever year it was 2006 or 2007). The OSU band members were vociferously asserting that chinstraps were unnecessary, to which this Wisconsin guy said "Well yeah, you don't need a chinstrap when your pregame has all the intensity of a grandma with the flu."

Punting on first down (and before fourth down) was fairly common back then. Teams didn't have reliable passing games, so most defenses could load up against the run. That meant that the ball was hard to move forward, and if you were backed up near your own goal line, a turnover was potentially disastrous. So teams would play a field position battle with the punting game. Punters were often the best player on the team--Michigan coach Harry Kipke was an All-American in 1922 playing halfback and punter.

I don't think the issue is that the field wouldn't be ready for the first home game. It's the second week of the season, whereas they had it ready for week one last year. My guess is that Harbaugh wants to be able to practice in the stadium as much as possible and having the soccer game would mess with that.

"fawned over Tom Izzo like he was the reincarnation of Dr. James Naismith himself " I get the point you're making here and I agree with it...but James Naismith was actually a mediocre/bad coach despite the fact that he invented the game.
Fun fact: he's the only head coach in the history of the Kansas Jayhawks basketball program to end his career with a losing record (55-60, .478). He only had two winning seasons, 7-4 in 1898-99 and 12-7 in 1905-06.
I wish Izzo was a reincarnation of Naismith, because then MSU would kinda suck.
