|12 weeks 2 days ago||Quite a bit...||
First, a ticket stub from the 1964 Michigan-Navy game. It was the second game of the season, and #8/9 Michigan beat #6/5 Navy 21-0. Michigan went on to a 9-1 season, winning the Big Ten and the Rose Bowl along the way, with the only loss a 21-20 nail-biter to Bob Griese's #5 Purdue.
Next, the October 30, 1950 issue of Life magazine, which contained a photo essay by legendary photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt. You've almost assuredly seen his most famous photo "V-J Day in Times Square" of a sailor kissing a nurse at the end of World War II. In 1950, Eisenstaedt chronicled the Michigan Marching Band's journey to New York City to perform at the Michigan-Army game at Yankee Stadium. #18 Michigan fell to #1 Army 27-6.
Following the musical vein, a piece of piano sheet music from 1904 entitled "Men of Yost," a little-known march dedicated to the great Point-a-Minute teams of 1901-1904.
I also have tome relics of the three great stadiums/arenas at Michigan. An original California redwood seat that was in Michigan Stadium from 1927 until the 1990s (they were covered with vinyl covers in the 1960s but the wood was still underneath), a brick from Yost that fell off during a heavy snowstorm when I was a student, and a row number from Crisler that fell off the seat I was sitting in during the 2011 NCAA Selection Show.
Before they started manufacturing Little Brown Jug repicas, the only way to have one was to make your own, so about 5 years ago I did just that. Mine is a 3-gallon jug (the real one is 5 gallons) and recently updated with the new score column and the last few scores.
And finally, probably the most unusual piece of UM memorabilia I own, given to me by one of my groomsmen when I got married. It's from a book written by a UM geology professor right after World War I about why, in his opinion, the war broke out. But what makes it unique is who owned this particular copy. The author inscribed it to him.
"To Fielding H. Yost, With the best regards of Wm H. Hobbs, Ann Arbor, Oct 3, 1922."

Having lived in Nebraska for a few years, I just don't see UNL getting a varsity hockey team in the near future. There's been talk of one for years, but UNO is the reason they won't pull the trigger. I believe the worry is that rather than adding a new group of fans for the UNL team, all it will do is siphon off a large chunk--perhaps even a majority--of the UNO fans. And since hockey is UNO's most prominent sport, that would be a heavy blow to their athletic department.
It'd be one thing if they were seperate schools where one could just start up the team and flip the other school the finger as they grab a bunch of their fans, but these are two schools in the same university system. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't think it will happen.

During the 2000s the tradition was that the drum major took their hat off once the Big Ten season started. Iden Baghdadchi (2006) was the first one who did only hatless backbends, and all of his successors have followed suit so far.

|1 year 12 weeks ago||Punting on first down (and||
Punting on first down (and before fourth down) was fairly common back then. Teams didn't have reliable passing games, so most defenses could load up against the run. That meant that the ball was hard to move forward, and if you were backed up near your own goal line, a turnover was potentially disastrous. So teams would play a field position battle with the punting game. Punters were often the best player on the team--Michigan coach Harry Kipke was an All-American in 1922 playing halfback and punter.

I don't think the issue is that the field wouldn't be ready for the first home game. It's the second week of the season, whereas they had it ready for week one last year.
