Also, it goes to show that the average football fan has no idea what goes into a gameplan. It is easy to criticize coaches on game day, but they know what they are doing. A good coach never blames the players, but if things don't go well, it's because of exection about 80% of the time.

Hang time is a far better indicator of the success of a punt and the chance of a return. Ask any football coach in the country and they'll tell you they'd exchange hang time for distance any day.

You are right about power not really being an outside play. I just meant that it's not hitting in the A gap, and because of power being a gap scheme, the blitzes shouldn't affect it if it is executed properly. 

It's not uncommon for the inside linebackers to run a stunt on a blitz and switch gaps. The reason Ross looked so freakishly quick is that Morgan has to delay for a split second so that Ross can pass in front of him. These blitzes can confuse offensive linemen. They are looking for number 48, as he is their biggest threat, and number 15 runs screaming past them into the hole. 

And, I don't think they had the same gap. They probably both were blitzing the A gaps, but with the movement of the offensive line, the A gaps became one. 

EDIT: Upon further review, I think the demise of this play is on the shoulders of Miller and Kalis. They are running power. Miller's job is probably to protect the weakside A gap. He gets a little confused when no one shows right away, and decides to block god knows who. Kalis is supposed to pull around and get the playside backer. Once he pulls, he should have eyes on his man. It doesn't look like he ever finds him. If he saw him, he would have seen the blitz coming and probably walled it off. Instead, he looks to help clean up the playside defensive lineman, which didn't require help. 

I've only ever gone to games on someone else's dime (read:season ticket holder.) I really want to go the the OSU game this year. Realistically, how difficult and/or expensive will it be for me to get tickets?

Furthermore, I am an alum, but am I not sure how to verify that so I get my points.

We are very lucky to have him. We should be glad that we are getting to experience him. These last two years have been special.

I wonder how old the Freshman kid is. Just because he is in 9th grade, does not mean he is 14. As a high school football coach, I see this alot. Parents are holding their kids back in elementary or junior high school so that they are older when they start high school. That way, they are a bit more physically mature to play sports. In the league that I coach in, we had a couple of 16 year old freshman because of this. 

Malcolm Gladwell did an essay on this sort of thing in his book, The Outliers.

I see what you mean, but the thread is RS freshman who will make an impact. The flip side of your point is if he is bad, or isn't ready, then whoever takes his spot is simply better than him. 

For example, Mealer played center this year. He was not good, he was just better than the alternative. Great guy, Michigan man, but he struggled. 

I think (and hope) it will be Kalis. It SHOULD be him. 

As a side, I ofenn wonder the reason more Freshman don't get a shot playing on the offensive line. There are obviously some physical issues such as size and strength that play in, but I wonder if more often than not it has to do with understanding scheme. Offensive line is the most complicated position on the team outside of quarterback, and the jump from high school offenses to college offenses is pretty significant. 

I guess Josh Garnett wanted to do research at Stanford?

I honestly think that Hardaway can be a bit selfish at times. It's a little frustrating to watch him huck up terrible shots. He does it quite a bit. I think we tend to forgive him when he is shooting well, but when he's off, it really hurts the team. As you all know, we aren't exactly awesome at offensive rebounding.

I don't think getting hit is the issue with Denard playing running back. He got tackled just as much as any running back during his time in the winged helmet. 

His issue, especially in the NFL, is pass protection. I'm not sure he can pass protect well enough to be an NFL RB. 

If I recall correctly, he was in for about one pass play as RB in the Outback bowl where he had to pass protect, and it didn't go well for him. 

He's a "project." NFL teams don't really want projects. They want dudes who can play, and play right away. 

I think they just broke Dick Vitale.

It's time for some competition. I feel dirty watching ESPN at this point, but there is nothing else. ESPN has essentially resigned itself to being a sports tabloid. 

You need to understand that this drill favors defensive linemen. Really, they should be winning. If an offensive lineman wins, it's impressive.

I usually don't participate simply because I feel like I end up defending the coaches more often than not. The lay person doesn't really understand the preparation that is required for each game. It a coach is doing (or not doing) something, there is a reason. We don't get to see practice, or to watch hours of film befor these games. All we see is the product on the field, which is really just a piece of the puzzle. I don't think any coach is perfect, but I find it hard to second guess them. People on the boards love to play the armchair coach role, and it's just not that easy. 

I forget his name, but I saw the coach from the documentary "Undefeated" speak a couple months ago, and he said it best. He said, "Coaches don't win games, players win games. Coaches win players." I think he nailed it, and that's why I have faith in this staff. These players play hard for them.

I never understood how idiots like McShay and Kiper could rate him so highly as a receiver without ever actually seeing him catch a pass. Hopefully, it's something that we will see in the bowl game.

The Army- Navy game is the only rivalry game that even comes close to Michigan- Ohio for me. I  love watching it. It's a great way to end the college football regular season every year.
