|1 hour 52 min ago||Haha...||
Virtually everyone I've met from this blog in person over the years has turned out to be a very cool person actually, and really, discussing Michigan with those people in person is even better in a way, along with all the other topics that come to mind. I find it is easier when you can put faces to usernames too. It lets you interact with those users in a more rounded way, I find.
|3 hours 14 min ago||Not A Good Start...||
His arrest and expected firing follows a tumultuous week for Oregon, which suspended new football strength and conditioning coach Irele Oderinde on Tuesday for a month without pay, while also including a formal apology on behalf of Taggart, after three UO players were injured during offseason workouts last week and hospitalized for several days. All three have since been released.
Not a good start for the Taggart era at Oregon at all. I mean, I don't know how patient OU fans are willing to be, but this sort of beginning might entail the need for patience since it seems like it could create a problematic recruiting situation, among other things.
|5 hours 48 min ago||About That...||
I would avoid anything on the Arby's menu with "vinade chevaline" in the item description, or anything similar to that. Not that it would stop either Arby's or someone in need of a quick lunch, but still....my avatar would rather you skipped it.
|5 hours 58 min ago||Could Be Worse...||
Imagine having to grow up with the name in this birth announcement:
|9 hours 49 min ago||Jamal Crawford...||
It is still a shame that he was only here in Ann Arbor for what seems like an instant - a few years of Jamal Crawford would have been fun, but what we did get to see was still very entertaining.
First three-time winner of the Sixth Man Award and I also believe he currently hold the record for the most four-point plays in the NBA. I think he's also in the top 10 for made threes too. I would call that successful.
|13 hours 52 min ago||I'll Admit...||
I've been curious about that as well, the grading systems, and it would interesting to compare it across a few teams just to get a taste for differences in style and preference.
As for less-heralded recruits when it comes to site rankings, I trust Harbaugh and the staff to know what they are looking at and estimate what they could do to develop a kid. Hopefully, no one is afraid of what amounts to a weird recruiting version of "Moneyball" once in a while.
|21 hours 38 min ago||You Know...||
Among your suggestions, 3 or 4 of them would simply be good for everyone involved in college athletics or college sports reporting in general actually, but one would definitely make Dick Vitale very sad - not that this bothers me, of course, but one of them would make him sad indeed.
|1 day 3 hours ago||The Weather...||
The one thing I do like about winter in Michigan is that fall and spring kind of lurk in the shadows and we get days like this when by all rights we shouldn't. Of course, you could hardly see for all the fog in my neck of the woods until about 11 AM, but you can't have everything.
Hopefully, he enjoyed the day all the same and the victory.
|1 day 6 hours ago||Yeah, I Think So...||
There is a lot to be said for the anticipation that surrounds that game as the season goes on, and there's nothing to me that says we need to abandon tradition in order possibly better structure the schedule for playoff purposes. I really don't think it would matter, in which case, why upset a good thing?
|1 day 7 hours ago||Refreshing Indeed...||
Well, it is refreshing to see Rutgers make a Top 25 list of some kind, and how right of them to point out that they will be returning their offense - or what passes for it in Piscataway - when Grant returns.
|1 day 7 hours ago||Wait A Minute...||
Wait a minute, I think there are a few people down in Bolivia that didn't hear you...maybe if you use this:
|2 days 37 min ago||Pretty Sure...||
Pretty sure that in the next few years you'll see 24/7 recruiting channels with some teams that essentially follow the endless speculation and drama and then expound on it as if it meant something for 8-10 hours depending on the recruit in question.
Wait, we don't do that now? Could have fooled me.
|2 days 6 hours ago||In Addition...||
In addition, I very much doubt we let oppotunistic folks scurry off with the remains of the damaged wall to build palaces and so forth as they did in Rome. You are right, we would certainly would not have managed the restoration quite so haphazardly, if you will.
|2 days 9 hours ago||Well Then....||
I trust in Harbaugh's ability to innovate and find something which accomplishes the goal in a manner which the NCAA did not conceive. It will be interesting to see what's on the slate for this year, and if it were up to me, the NCAA would be a standing favorite for the award that they used to give out on Laugh-In - The Flying Fickle Finger Of Fate.
It is disappointing that the NCAA and its other members could feel so threatened by one man in particular, but then look at who gets a big say and which conferences they inhabit....
|2 days 11 hours ago||Never Seen One...||
I've never seen a rule explicitly ruling that out, but I am almost certain it is made illegal indirectly by the restrictions on when the regular playing season can take place. I could be misreading it, because the spring game rules allow for one scrimmage, and I think this is the direct quote, "provided the game is with a team composed of bona fide alumni or students or both"
I suppose it does leave it open-ended on second read, but I've never seen such a spring game - one between two distinct teams like Michigan and Stanford - that I can recall.
|2 days 12 hours ago||You Haven't?||
That's Glenn Frey's little-discussed cousin, right? I think he was known for underrated classics like "The Stove Is On" and "You Belong To The DMV", both written while he was in line to apply for a boating permit in 1984.
I could be wrong here, of course.
|2 days 15 hours ago||From The Doors Article...||
Which makes it even more fascinating to consider that if the impressionable young Jim Osterberg had stuck around a little while longer that night at the I-M building, the world might have been denied—for better or worse—the powerful influence of punk rock’s original psychopath. Because it seems that after almost everyone had left, the Doors returned to the stage, complete with an inexplicably sober Jim Morrison, and played an entire set of their material, flawlessly.
That was a very cool and interesting piece, illustrating one of those moments in history where the paths of the already famous and would-be famous cross and timing seems like everything to create the world we know. Even better that someone Jim Morrison managed to get a set in considering how drunk he began the evening (my mother was at this attempt at a concert and remembers this well).
|3 days 1 hour ago||You Know...||
Somehow, many years down the road, I think that the Harbaugh era at Michigan basically ends with the NCAA having an entire section of the handbook dedicated to the things that it fully believes were discovered and "fixed" during the Harbaugh years, and yet they will have always been a step behind. I am sure we will all chuckle at it in retrospect.
|3 days 4 hours ago||2/18/2012....||
Ah yes, I remember it well - I don't recall the precise numbers, but I remember the date well. For a few hours there, it seemed as if entire counties were commiting to Michigan. Of course, getting onto this site was nearly impossible for about 12 hours, but what else is new?
In any case, I wish Shallman nothing but the best wherever he ends up.
|3 days 8 hours ago||Oh Yes...||
If someone ever can get their hands on the footage of Jim Harbaugh blocking the podium into obliterration, there may very well be some MGoPoints in it for you. That would have to one of the top five things just to appear here regardless of coaching "era", if you will.
|3 days 10 hours ago||Interesting...||
It’s not uncommon for NCAA investigations to take multiple years before completion, but Ole Miss’ is now in its fourth, and it became much more crippling when former offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil admitted he received money from staff members last spring. It was then discovered that he is unlikely to be the only recipient.
I mean, it would be so much simpler for them to put a "Now __________ Days Investigation-Free" sign out front so people could just get a quick gauge on where the program stands with the NCAA, The problem, of course, is that it would be zero days for Ole Miss.....forever really.
|3 days 10 hours ago||For A Long Time...||
For a long time, this is how my son felt about chicken nuggets, and not just any old nuggest, but Tyson's Chicken Nuggets. One day, when he was maybe five, we bought the Meijer brand chicken nuggets and this turned out to be a complete calamity. Fortunately, he's past this now, but that was.....suffice to say I remember that level of picky.
|3 days 10 hours ago||About This...||
I have to wonder if this springs from the mumrmurings around town that Chris Illitch and Tom Gores will be getting together on various projects outside of the Pistons move to downtown. I've heard some speculation from various people in the business community that I interact with that one of those projects may be the Detroit Tigers, but nothing is in the news or nothing has been committed to paper yet, so take it as speculation for now, I would say.
|4 days 4 min ago||About RDT....||
I have actually had a couple conversations with the person responsible for that account on Twitter, even asked them to come back and do a followup "How are you?" sort of thread, but they declined.
Shame, as his outing was probably one of the best days this place as ever known. We all had so much fun with that.
|4 days 1 hour ago||In Addition...||
If it is just negative points but no banhammer, you can post here but cannot start threads, and I think you have to fill out one of those Captcha boxes every time you post. That doesn't stop some of the more aggrieved denizens of Bolivia, of course.
There isn't a lot that we can do in the interface other than dock / resurrect points and de-activate usernames, but sometimes that's the only thing that maybe makes people think twice in the future.
|4 days 2 hours ago||Done And Done...||
Done and done.
No more shit talking of THAT variety, unless it is a direct result of expressing your dog's anal glands, which still stands as a weirdly epic thread to which many of us contibuted "advice". Yes, that's what we'll call it.
|4 days 2 hours ago||Don't Worry...||
"We can talk" is - as usual - modspeak for "this decision will stand, but I am curious as to why you think there is another way here".
Well, that's what the manual they gave me said anyway.
|4 days 2 hours ago||In My Defense...||
In defense of my decision to can Section 1, he did eventually create an account at 11 Warriors and they threw him out, and you have to try very hard to get thrown off that site if their threads are any indication. I think we made the right call there, but we can always talk about it, of course.
|4 days 3 hours ago||I Say Again...||
|4 days 3 hours ago||If You Want....||
If you want to start it, I certainly would not stop you - it could be really funny actually, in my own view. As for how it would go generally, that's a good question - I am not sure. If it got too out of hand, we could kill the thread, but I would doubt that it would get too far and would probably be welcomed as a needed distraction.
|4 days 5 hours ago||Much Worse...||
It's much worse when you are saddled with a name that unfrotunately lends itself to humor and then you decide to put your wedding announcement in the paper. For example:
|4 days 6 hours ago||That's Nothing...||
That's nothing really. PSULionInsider will block you before you even have a chance to finish a sentence, or at least that was my experience. He struck up a conversation with Brady but didn't initially ask him for an autograph because he didn't think the kid had a future in the pros. The man only caved and asked Brady to sign because doing otherwise would've been rude.
I kind of hope whoever it was still has this program, because now that sounds kind of funny - "I only got Brady's autograph because I didn't want the dude to feel bad" or something to that effect. How little we realize sometimes where some people are headed, right?
|4 days 13 hours ago||To Be Fair...||
To be fair to those - like me - who have their name often mispronounced and even misspelled to the point of being unrecognizable, it can grate on you especially if after correcting the same people several times they still can't manage something which to you is pretty fucking simple.
Take it from someone who went most of a semester in high school with a teacher who was convinced my name was "Leon". Take it from someone who almost got detention for loudly and sarcastically correcting said teacher in class one morning. How I talked my way out of discipline after telling a teacher that he had the same ability to retain basic information as my jock strap I will never know.

We signed up for this one a while back like others. As someone said, I think the deadline is the end of this month. I was also part of the one Mad Hatter talked about which revolved around having personal information sold to 3rd parties, and I think I got maybe $65-$70 out of that one. The only other one I joined that comes to mind is the TicketMaster one, and we did get free ticket vouchers - albeit to shitty concerts and out-of-state ones at that.
|5 days 7 hours ago||Now This...||
Now, THIS is one of those moments where the phrase "Big, if true" comes in handy on some many levels. Indeed, I am shocked that no one went there immediately actually, a little dsappointed in fact.
|5 days 10 hours ago||Yes, But...||
Yes, but only on Tuesdays and Fridays, and then only between the months of March and June depending on the daily rotation of shoes as determined by whoever is in bed with their Regional Brand Strategy folks. If the cafeteria in the football building is emphasizing a corn-heavy selection of sides, add Wednesday to this list.
|5 days 12 hours ago||It's A Good Thing...||
It's a good thing I saw this at work because we'll be voting - going to a Michigan-heavy meeting later, so this will be an informal agenda item.
Once again, thanks for taking on the task of pushing out the daily reminders on these.
|5 days 13 hours ago||Haha...||
I can only imagine what that might be like, where you come home and your own kids start grilling you about playcalling. The conversations that must take place in that house, right?
"Could you pass the vegetables, please?"
"First, explain that 3rd and 7 call in the 2nd quarter...."
|6 days 8 min ago||Oh Yes...||
All I can say is that I am glad we're in a position where we can go ahead an label threads "RBCC" and we just know what's going on and what we're looking for and.....dear lord, I thought this gig would get EASIER for a harbaugh-led Michigan team, but then coaching tree and.....

CBS Sports and a few other sites are running with this now, so I going to assume that this has legs, although I would love to be wrong as it was fun to have Wheatley back in Ann Arbor for a while. Good luck to him though in Jacksonville and I thank him for coming back to help the cause for a bit - we will miss him.
|6 days 5 hours ago||Oatmeal....||
Oatmeal and "deep rotation" just seem awkward in the same post, even though the point of eating oatmeal is to get some deep rotation in your GI tract, and I am easing into that time in life where this isn't necessarily a bad thing to experience now and again.
|6 days 8 hours ago||Perhaps...||
Perhaps he tweeted at Thomas Wilcher meaning to tweet at Thomas Wilcher - there's a subtle but very important difference, you see. It's kind of like if your name is spelled "Raymond Luxury-Yacht" but is pronounced "Throatwobbler Mangrove". Easy mistake to make, right?
|6 days 8 hours ago||Interesting Stuff...||
There are a few college coaches that have moved in this direction too actually. When Chris Ash was still the DC at Ohio State, I think he actually talked Urban into adopting it as well, and they did so with some success when it came to overall performance as well as safety. I think the Atlanta Falcons are also huge believers in this approach too, and as I recall, the Seahawks and Falcons have the lowest concussion rates in the league.
|6 days 13 hours ago||Off Today...||
We get today off, so I am still sort of basking in the post-wakeup haze....as I woke up only about a half hour ago. It just rare for me to be able to get up at 8 AM on a Monday, so I am enjoying that little bit of the day first, also being in no hurry to eat breakfast. I'll probably go for a nice run later, and it won't be because I am running from a meeting.

|1 week 5 hours ago||If I Had To Guess...||
Well, as a Lions fan, I could do with Dallas and Green Bay going down to asteroid, but since this is not a realistic possibility, I will go with Dallas in that game. As for Kansas City and Pittsburgh, I think the Steelers can pull that one out on the road, although I expect that one to be very close.
|1 week 11 hours ago||I Applauded...||
I freely admit to standing up and clapping when I saw that highlight - Grayson Allen pretty much deserves being the traget of some good old-fashioned in-game retribution just to remind him that you can't be a douche with impunity in any sport, let alone basketball. Hopefully, that shuts him up for a while.
|1 week 22 hours ago||It Is Interesting...||
I could be wrong, but Tom Brady might now be the career leader now in playoff games - I haven't looked at the stat in a while, but I think he has passed the likes of Jerry Rice, Peyton Manning, D.D. Lewis and yes, even Adam Vinatieri. That's a pretty impressive feat as well, just ot be in that many postseason games.
|1 week 22 hours ago||Three Pointers...||
At last report, this is more or less true statistically as well - whereas Michigan's own overall percentage hovers around 40% and it in the upper fifth of Division I basketball, we give up about 48% on threes, which is #348, so within earshot of the basement for defending threes. It rolls into the opponent eFG% of 53%, which is #259 in Division I.

That's sort of where I am at - I saw that tweet and now I am searching for an additional source for the report that he's heading to Jacksonville and not finding it. We own the redundant feed to the building (main feed is from Michigan's own power plant) and we're supposed to be out of there in April, I believe.

|1 week 1 day ago||Right Now...||
Michigan hovering around 62-63% for eFG% right now, which is better than most games recently. Need to keep that pace, of course, because Nebraska isn't too far behind that statistic right now.
If nothing else, at least the Cornhuskers aren't spectacular at rebounding either.
|1 week 1 day ago||This Is True...||
Mine are 10 and 9 and.....yes, this is true. You do find yourself doing things you wouldn't normally do and going places you wouldn't normally go because of the fallout from statements like, "You two need to get off your you-know-what and do something, and here's what we're doing...."
|1 week 1 day ago||Very Cool Indeed...||
I'll have to go back and find some of my letters to the editor, and there were several of those, during my time on campus. I think the first warning sign that I was eventually going to end up modding this blog is that even back then I was finding means to make people hate what I had to say, in fact. It was a perfect fit, but I simply wasn't aware of it at the time.
|1 week 1 day ago||Does That Mean...||

|1 week 1 day ago||Thanks Again...||

Thanks again for the daily reminder and hopefully we can pull off a victory for this cause.
|1 week 2 days ago||You Know...||
Now that I see people like Lester who are my age.....in some cases younger.....getting positions like this at various levels, it leads me to ask a question that has been on my mind lately - what DIDN'T I do in my life that I couldn't break into sports as something other than a second-rate player?
Seems like an anticlimactic follow-up to Fleck, but we shall see, I guess.
|1 week 2 days ago||Interesting Development...||
Smith, who has been Ohio State's AD since 2005, knows a thing or two about selection committees as he previously spent five seasons on the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Committee and served as its chair in 2010-11.
It's still alright if we can get Smith to agree to recuse himself when they are talking about football, right? I mean, if he can get the organizational hierarchy backwards, surely he can be made to agree to this.
|1 week 2 days ago||Come On Now...||
Oh, come on now. Bill Belichick played center for little old Wesleyan University in Connecticut and he is now a Sith Lord. In part, it takes the drive to develop your skills and to get a broad experience in the sport - the rest is simply replacing Drew Bledsoe with Tom Brady due to an injury.
|1 week 2 days ago||Wait A Second...||
Wait a second, we had this debate and I missed it?
I am kind of pissed about that honestly. I have thoughts about this one.
All the same, it would be interesting to see if LTT transferred back to Michigan - this is just my own interepretation here, but I would think that Harbaugh would take him back and give him another shot.

I think it was 2010, if we're going by overall record - they were 6-7 thanks to a loss in the Liberty Bowl, if I remember correctly. Still, they finished 3rd in the SEC East even at that, which is not generally difficult to do most years given your divisional competition.
|1 week 3 days ago||Thanks...||
I just wanted to say thanks to the OP for posting this each day. I was going to try to remind myself to just bump threads, but January is a bad time for me and what I do and you see how well reminders and me work now anyway.
Anyway, excellent work keep the community updated here.
|1 week 3 days ago||On The Fence Now...||
I sit on the fence with this right now - I am pretty frustrated with this start to conference play and the seeming lack of on-court leadership that seems to dog the team currently. That being said, if they can do well enough in the next 5-6 games, they may be able to salvage something, in my view. What that something might be is debatable, but they would be in an infinitely better position than the one they seem to be barreling towards at the moment.
If we finish this season as flat as we look now, I will probably join the crowd that wants to see change - I don't come by those decisions easily, but it would be time then, in my view.

|1 week 4 days ago||In Short...||
I would agree with others - no complaints about the look of the football uniforms at all, and I like that we've basically stuck with the classic look that makes Michigan's uniforms as iconic as they are in the sport.
I have complex feelings about the basketball gear - I think there's some room for improvement on those uniforms honestly. I am just not a fan of the overall aesthetic in this case.
Fan gear is sort of a mixed bag for me - some of the Nike stuff I liked and have bought, whereas other designs I couldn't fathom. That's probably any fan gear really, but I would add that it seems like I'll either really like or really hate it. Very little in between for me.
|1 week 4 days ago||If I Am Not Mistaken...||
If I am not mistaken, our own Braylon Edwards is doing this very thing right now, in fact tweeting some of the awkwardness of being a 33 year-old college senior in a sea of people a decade or more younger than him. I have a lot of respect for people that can do this after years away.
|1 week 4 days ago||The Takes...||
The takes....they are hot today apparently.
As for me, I would take that endorsement from a recruit or a parent of a recruit, that Michigan in their view provides for a better life after football. I think the weight of that cannot be underestimated and you can only hope that it is one of the things which ultimately tilts the scales in your favor.
|1 week 4 days ago||Signed LOI...||
I am pretty sure that a signed LOI is the official end of the line when it comes to being able to change your mind without taking any sort of hit to eligibility or whatnot, although I am more a fan of kids signing the grant-in-aid and not the LOI.
I do agree with the main point though - I like the idea of having an early signing period available, particularly for kids who are fairly certain where they wish to go and want to escape the drama, much of which seems to come from things like social media and overzealous boosters and the like.
|1 week 4 days ago||NO...||
Does an 8-win season next year put Harbaugh in the hot seat?
|1 week 4 days ago||My Thoughts Too...||
This is kind of what I was thinking too - it will be interesting to see what the first draft class looks like, because that might speak a lot to how long this lasts and if it can really take off as a vaiable alternate route to the league. If it looks like it can be successful, I would think that the NFL would be shortsighted not to pay attention to what could be forming here, but it is far too early yet to tell.

He did a couple of them, mainly in the 1990s, as I recall unless we're going to count the promos for Michigan Replay, where he was obviously a constant presence up until the day he retired from coaching. As someone mentioned, I also think that this will be an interesting group to watch now that Butt is not here, but so far, so good with the TEs under Jay Harbaugh, I would say. They truly were an asset and they should continue to be an asset in this offense. Also, he seems to be a pretty damn good recruiter.

A note to the OP:
As a rule, posting articles which are of subpar quality and are essentially troll jobs really don't go over well here regardless of who wrote it. I know some people like to point these out, but rest assured the audience for ill-conceived and ill-constructed claptrap is pretty limited here.
|1 week 5 days ago||I Chuckled...||
Not long after Alabama’s devastating loss, people back at Auburn were rolling Toomer’s Corner with toilet paper, a tradition that has spanned decades.
You know, for all the "conference pride" BS that some in the southeastern US espouse, I have a feeling that the only people devestated by the loss were Alabama fans, if this is any indication. M-Dog is right though, I think that if we were the ones that had to face Alabama every year and this loss happened, there would be celebration of some kind.

His career is one that I think we'll all follow into the pros - he is going to make one team very pleased indeed, I assume, and he will continue to be fun to watch for years. Best of luck to him in this next phase of his career.

I agree - what would really add to this analysis is the weekly tracking of each team. There used to be a great site called PollTracker (which I think was resurrected in some form) that would let you follow the weekly progressions of each team down to the individual voter. I would also like to see the deepest pit anyone has climbed out of in order to eventually come back in the rankings and win it all.

It would probably shock a lot of people to know that I have no clue how to play Magic and in fact never even really did more than glance at a deck of Magic cards until well after high school and long after the game had reached peak popularity.
I am, however, pretty damn good at most card games you can play with a standard 52-card deck.

The Android version the MGoBlog app is nice for reading posts (if you can overlook the lack of successful embeds and photos), and it isn't bad for making short posts, but writing anything of length in it is a nightmare right now. The problem I have with the apps in general is that they do not have any mod functionality, so when people report stuff and I only have my phone on me, there's nothing I can really do.

Zoomed in on the regional charts to my hometown of Saline, MI and found Vince Helmuth's name - I actually didn't realize he was from there. I think the only real football name Saline HS ever had to offer (that immediately comes to mind) was Chris Baker, who was orginally from NYC but was two years behind my class in high school.

You know, the Hochuli / Defee arm wrestling match - if we could get it to happen - could very well be the most watched thing on the Ocho ever. Actually, I would imagine the pre-match hype alone gets this one booted up to ESPN2 potentially. The only question now is this - how many rounds do we want?

Although sometimes such things make it here before they are in fact truly known, hence the infamous thread followed by a subsequent thread which effectively retracts the original thread, thereby cluttering the board. It happens with recruiting news too, but transfers are almost as bad. Worse are the threads which serve as a retraction followed by the actual story, then we don't know what the hell is going on anymore.....possibly ever.

Yeah, you don't think about how many people we are going to be losing sometimes until you see it neatly listed like that - and quite the list it is too. Additionally, this proposal will serve to reduce costs that are associated with travel to off-campus locations for the sole purpose of practice outside the championship season. This concept is consistent with other proposed parameters aimed at emphasizing student-athlete time balance.
Most kind of them to frame the "Harbaugh Rule" as "cost conscious" as well so that it might market better, if you will, not that many coaches needed a lot of urging on this one sadly.
|1 week 6 days ago||The Way To Do It...||
The way to do that is to secretly fly Rutgers and Wake Forest down there and somehow get them to play as one team or the other (it wouldn't matter which team chose which actual championship team really). When the score is in fact -14 to the square root of -21, it might dawn on people what is going on, but it will be far too late by then to do anything but play out the game.

I still find the NFL's need to push the narrative that no one leaves (for good anyway) a bit sad, and worse, the need of rival fanbases to troll others with it even more sad.
I mean, whatever happens here happens, but the NFL beat seems awfully and unusually hurt by the idea that someone like Jim Harbaugh should leave and express no obvious interest in returning, so I wonder if we get to see this with every coach that leaves now, at least to some extent.

(OT) Nick Saban: Elite Head Coach. Fact or Fiction?
There's no way this goes well, largely in part to being poorly conceived, in my own opinion. You can't discount recruiting due to your own ethical qualms and you can't simply cherrypick a coach's overall record to fit your pre-ordained conclusion.
|2 weeks 12 hours ago||You Can't...||
You can't really do that though - if we're going to acknowledge that recruiting, however it happens, is part of his job at Alabama like any other coach and that the talent he recruits is part of that sustained success, then your moral apprehension to what might be happening is not part of this. If you're going to do that, then you have to come up with a factor which adjusts program success to some subjective view of ethics across the board, which you also cannot do.

|2 weeks 2 days ago||I Don't Know...||
My point is simply this: Conference championships, as currently devised, don’t make much sense. Because of imbalanced divisions, championship games often don’t pit the two best teams in a conference against each other (Big Ten championship participant Wisconsin was probably the fourth-best team in its league, for instance).
I definitely agree with him here - they don't make a lot of sense in that they don't put the best teams in the conference together on one field and you can see situations where these games could effectively be useless for ranking purposes in that one or both teams may not move much barring a fantastic or unexpected result elsewhere on Championship Weekend.
It's an interesting idea that he proposes, but the logistics of it, when magnified to the logistics of college football and moving teams around week to week and so forth, would be rather difficult to manage, I think.

Let's go with the failure of referee Tony Corrente's crew to notice that a 4-yard pass to New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in Week 15 actually hit the ground, then rolled between Beckham's legs before it was "caught." Back judge Todd Prukop had the same view as the photo below. Yikes.
Still hoping that Prukop maybe thought for a moment that there is "The OTHER Process" for a catch, but then Triplette's crew seems to be always on the verge of ruling that the ball hit above the white line on the jersey therefore it is a home run.
This was a call I was hoping not to see another photo of, but yeah.....ugh.

It's hard for me to do that totally between being a mod here and my podcast and a few other things, but it has gotten to a point where coverage of these kids is down to a microscopic level in recruiting's own version of the 24/7 news cycle and it does wear on people, I have noticed. I don't even follow recruiting that closely and I still get leery of the amount of coverage that is available on teenagers basically.

|2 weeks 4 days ago||Regarding This...||
From the FAQ on Loss Of Value Coverage - LINK
"Insurance underwriters will first determine an athlete’s eligibility based on their draft position. If they are projected to be selected early in the draft, underwriters could offer coverage limit that typically falls between $1 million and $10 million, based on the projected draft position. The underwriters will then set a loss-of-value threshold that is typically 50 to 60 percent of the athlete’s projected rookie contract. If the contract an athlete signs falls below that threshold as a direct result of an injury or illness suffered during the coverage period, the insurance would pay them the difference between the actual contract’s value and the policy’s predetermined value."
I would imagine part of the decision is your draft projection versus how much you're potentially (key word) willing to lose, so I would think that if we're talking a high pick with a commensurate contract, then going pro is probably not even a question most of the time - not everyone does, of course. I could be wrong about this entirely, but I have to think there are considerations like this in the decision.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||My Own View...||
In my own view, and this could be me being judgmental (one of my many faults sadly), that it was a case of a good topic more or less ruined by the final paragraph, asking if Harbaugh was worth the money being paid him. The OP wasn't there to revise or defend the question (unless I missed it, and if I did, I apologize and will reinstate it), and standing as is, it wasn't going to go well most likely.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Reading Those Accounts...||
I was reading those accounts a little bit ago - there was some stuff that made me laugh actually, including a few people who actually predicted his draft round as "7th at best", and that was the OSU fanbase. I imagine much of this is bitterness in the aftermath of the Buckeyes deciding not to attend the Fiesta Bowl (which was rude, quite honestly). The bloggers and beat writers were much more upbeat about it, as one might expect.

|2 weeks 4 days ago||He's Worth It...||
Is Jim Harbaugh really worth 8mil a year to a public university (no question he is to a pro team)? It isn't like he is curing cancer or inventing a new physics theory.
Yes, Jim Harbaugh is worth every penny he gets from the University Of Michigan, mostly because not only does it help to ensure the team's success, but it manages to keep those seats filled AND the maximum number of Michigan fans watching from home or wherever.
I do agree that the in-person experience can be an ordeal - it IS an ordeal in Ann Arbor for a lot of reasons (mostly traffic-related), but it is an awesome ordeal if you're a dedicated fan of things Michigan, in my own opinion, and an experience everyone should have at least once, I think.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||The ND Series....||
I honestly can take or leave the ND series - it's nice for the tradition of playing them but I wasn't necessarily all that keen to resurrect this one, at least not as quickly. What kind of gets me, and to the point of some here, is that we rushed into this and, as a result, became subserviant to THEIR scheduling, hence the one October game, which is going to feel rather awkward in the midst of the conference slate.

|2 weeks 4 days ago||As I Recall...||
As I recall, Bob Quinn did say before the 2016-17 season even began - because he was asked repeatedly - that getting to the playoffs (means regardless apparently) was not a prerequisite for Caldwell keeping his position. To me, that sort of implied that getting to the playoffs, however it happened, meant that in all likelihood we were stuck with him for at least another season. In that respect, this is hardly shocking news, and while I am not a Caldwell fan, by Lions standards he is succeeding where others have not (take that for what you will, of course - I find the man grating).

Although, I will say that the fact that he has not attempted - to my knowledge - to start a new account on the main site in quite some time and is instead content to continue posting in the confines of the app, where only a certain percentage of us can see him speaks to a dwindling dedication to trolling, or an admission that trolling is all he has left. It could be a bit of both.

This part was interesting, I thought, not the sole reason Claeys is out obviously:
Another issue Coyle faces is sagging attendance. The Gophers averaged 43,814 over seven dates at TCF Bank Stadium this past season, their smallest average attendance since 2002.
Apparently, in 2015, the average home attendance was north of 50,000.

|2 weeks 5 days ago||I Will Say This...||
This is going to be one of those posts where I think the answer is something like this - "The staff here likely will not do this because of the time investment that it would probably take, but if someone wants to create such a matrix and keep it updated, feel free as there is probably a niche audience for this."
One of the great things about a board with a lot of user-generated content is that the users can take on some of the more time-consuming projects, right?

One small clarifier that I've brought up before when people have asked this question - the mods themselves can't raise the threshhold. As tempting as it is sometimes, we don't have that level of access to the site. It is a Brian / Seth decision, if it indeed happens.
I think the original intent of the 100 points was to avoid discouraging new content, but I'll let those above me give a more detailed answer on that one if they should choose to do so.

|2 weeks 6 days ago||Here's The Thing...||
The point I'm trying to make is that unless we get an equivalent number of difference makers, having program that contends for National Championships is a pipedream.
I don't think that's strictly it though....we were a play or two away from being perhaps in the CFP this year, and if you move away from recruiting rankings as being more than just one of many indicators and accept that a large part of this is also maximizing the talent that you do have (even if it isn't talent that you recruited), that becomes obvious. That is to say, it's a very dynamic issue.
You can find difference makers in more places than just the 4 anf 5 star listings, but you have to employ a staff that can develop those players. We have the luxury of being able to get a decent mix of highly touted names but also to develop those players as well as players that might not be as highly ranked. You can recruit "difference makers", but you can also develop them. If you can do both, you'll have a team that gets into the CFP eventually.
We're just fine.

I get that Lions threads annoy some people, but I ask those people to keep in mind where a significant portion of this blog's readership lives / grew up.
Sorry, this sort of behavior annoys me.

This is the more informative one, so we'll go with this one - no offense to DCGrad, although his was in fact the first one.
In any case, hopefully Wiltfong is correct.

"....it's time I made it to the top...."
Memorable theme indeed.
Yeah, I watched the show for Kari Michaelsen, even though I was a wee lad at the time.
|3 weeks 3 hours ago||Interesting...||
I am just surprised that you can see the banner at all, unless they put out the raging tire fire temporarily as it was such a nice day and didn't want a heavy smoke obscuring the fans' view of futility.
|3 weeks 3 hours ago||Wait A Second...||
Wait a second, on what game data do you base that statement, because unless I have missed something, Dawson hasn't seen the field much at all, and disparaging a staff laden with NFL experience that has already shown in can develop players and maximize the talent that it has just seems.....not smart, if you don't mind me mentioning it.
|3 weeks 6 hours ago||You Know...||
You know, while I am not a huge fan of the overuse of "literally", DJ Wilson literally has scored a smidgen over half of Michigan's points. Indeed, without his contribution right now, Michigan would be hovering around 30% for an eFG which....yikes...
|3 weeks 8 hours ago||Not Really...||
There have been some sporadic instances where a few users (most of them long gone or trolling under new accounts now) have come dangerously close to this sort of meltdown rage, but I don't think we've managed anything quite like that e-mail on this board. That level of empty-headed, irrational, gratuitous abuse should NEVER be tolerated by any fanbase, and indeed there are many OSU fans openly decrying it as I expect we would in a similar situation, if it ever occurred here.

If you're going to post a lazy take, I can be lazy too, right?
|3 weeks 9 hours ago||Not Only MASH...||
While nearly everyone know Christopher for his character on MASH, what you may not know is that he has a son - like I do - that is on the autism spectrum and he did a lot of work helping to bring awareness to autism before there was an army of people doing so. He and his wife wrote a book called "Mixed Blessings" about 30 years ago and if you're in this situation - having a child on the autism spectrum - it is a great insight into day-to-day victories and struggles.
|3 weeks 12 hours ago||I Was Thinking This...||
At least to me, not only have they become less meaningful but it has become more apparent, as a result, just how much of a money grab for sponsors nearly all of them are. The fact that these companies that sponsor bowls seem to want the exposure at the expense of attendance or even a quality game and are OK with teams taking a bath on these games rings terrible in my head - just too many games for too few really good matchups, IMHO. Indeed, I watched fewer outside of the playoffs and our game this year as opposed to last year and that trend will likely continue.
|3 weeks 12 hours ago||Wow...||
I mean, people say some pretty shitty things during our games, but most of these fans quoted in the OP probably wouldn't last an hour on a blog like this, and for that I am thankful. There were some chuckles in that list though. For example:
Urban, punch a Clemson player! As is tradition.

Chip Kelly's salary / buyout situation may become the object of some controversy - LINK
The 49ers likely would argue that Kelly should get whatever he was owed by the Eagles for 2017, and that any excess will be covered by his 49ers contract. The Eagles likely would argue that the 49ers contract supersedes the Eagles contract, and that as long as the 49ers are paying Kelly as much or more than he would have made with the Eagles, the Eagles owe Kelly nothing.
There have not been a lot of instances - maybe none, in fact - in the NFL where someone is fired from one team while still earning a check from the team before the current firing, #Weis'd
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I Will Say...||
At least Ohio State shook hands with their opponent.
That Alabama could not be bothered with that is just incredible to me.
At this point in bowl season, asteroid is an acceptable solution as always, but damnit, be a good sport at least.

Harbaugh sends Pep to pressbox - Suspicious?
Oh for fuck sakes, OP.....
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Watching Now...||
Well, Alabama is trying to make sure that Washington understands that their first TD was essentially a form of trolling, if this drive by Alabama is any indication, especially if Washington is going to be that unable to stop Bo Scarborough for the rest of the game.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Out Of Curiosity...||
Out of curiosity, did he mention who specifically might be seeking transfers? I am rather curious now. I think that especially for the first few years under Harbaugh, the attrition will fascinate me almost as much as who arrives at Michigan, as weird as that might sound.
