I just wanted to play video games. I have the transcript right here. |
| 4 years 5 weeks ago | I didn't say football |
I didn't say football experience, though that argument could be made. In HS he probably played more games by being a 3-4 year starter and the HS all-star games. But, playing at Duke and being hated by every opposing fan gives one a form of experience that Sheridan has none of. So, really he has more experience in athletics and quite possibly in football. |
| 4 years 5 weeks ago | True, but there are a lot of |
True, but there are a lot of times when people argue against something even when cold-hard evidence is flying in their face. Also, I was more after the reason why he thinks Paulus won't play. The original comment offered nothing to discussion and that is just a waste of the internet. |
| 4 years 5 weeks ago | Talent is talent and I'm not |
Talent is talent and I'm not saying he's better than Forcier but I think he's on-par or better than Sheridan. I know what we're getting with Sheridan and though he may be improved, Paulus has more talent, more maturity and more experience whether it's basketball or football. Talent is talent and Sheridan has little compared to Paulus. Again, not saying he will be better but the potential is there with Paulus and I don't think it is with Sheridan. |
| 4 years 5 weeks ago | Sources? |
Did one of the coaches tell you that? I'm not saying you're wrong but the worst part about an opinion is when someone states it as a fact. Statements of fact about unknown outcomes is like trying to prove a point by yelling louder than anyone. Brown, you are in no way the only person who does this but it happens so often it's ridiculous. But a lot of people give reasons for their opinion, so at least do that. |

Say what you want about Cowherd being a pompous, arrogant, self-righteous ass...because he is. But he often times right when he talks about sports and how it relates to most people. Hate him or love him he tends to be spot on. He could be Jim Rome and nobody wants to be Rome. |
| 4 years 9 weeks ago | You're right. Making |
You're right. Making character assumptions about someone, based on the first thing you hear or infer about them is HARD. If it was easy then everyone would be on the internet casting judgement on 18 yr olds based on when and how they announce their commitment. But instead there's a select few who do that for us, like Tater. |

| 4 years 9 weeks ago | No it doesn't. He basically |
No it doesn't. He basically says that you need 16 teams to keep people from bitching. Not that they could actually win, which they could. He says that he'll put aside his logic (that no 8+ seed could win) to appease angry people. How is that better than the current system? How does he know a 17 seed has no right to gripe? 15-25 in rankings are not that different and going with that many teams makes it more objective. His whole argument is flawed and that paragraph should point that out. |
| 4 years 9 weeks ago | I once had a teacher tell me |
I once had a teacher tell me that an entire paper I had written contained a lot, but said little. You do that a lot. You write lengthy posts that say little that is actually correct. Like this gem: "Yes, but unlike basketball, the 17th best team has no chance of winning the NC in a playoff unless the ratings are badly skewed. Until a number sixteen seed wins, there would really be no reason to gripe. I am guessing that nobody below eight would win, but letting sixteen teams in is a great way to make sure nobody with a legitimate chance is left out." That whole thing is just a paragraph of hot-garbage. |
| 4 years 9 weeks ago | Wrong |
There was a 5* kicker from Montana who went to Oklahoma them proceeded to drink his way to some NAIA school. There are 5* kickers, they only get the extra 2+ stars for being a badass from Montana. Edit: He was a 5* to Scout. Rivals did give 4* in the 2002 class though, which was his. Still, you have to be Montanan to get the extra star. |

| 4 years 10 weeks ago | I was just asking |
if you actually knew he was being paid. The original article didn't mention it. Also, there are a lot of people who do this and there are companies designed to handle recruiting for players. The one I know of is used by non-star players (NAIA, DII, & 1AA level) to get film out and build awareness and also because these coaches at small schools have a hard time finding the right kids because there are so many of them out there. My buddy used a company like that because he wanted to play anywhere but wasn't good enough to warrant a D-1 scholarship. I'm not saying that Butler is legit, just saying that it's more likely to be legit since he is a business and not a 'family friend' like in the OJ Mayo case. Neutral third party of sorts. |

| 4 years 10 weeks ago | Troll Recipe |
Ingredients: 1 Troll 1.Wash troll and remove giblets from inside. Dry troll and rub with butter on all sides. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Be sure to get some salt and pepper on inside. Put in crock pot in early morning (about 8:00 a.m.). Turn crock pot to low - let cook all day. When returning home from work about 4:00 or 5:00 you will have a delicious baked troll. Remove from crock pot with spatula to keep from falling apart. You will have about 2 cups of troll broth in pot. Use for gravy over rice or mix with Stove Top stuffing instead of water. Garnish with spices and enjoy! Serves 6-8 people. |

Try yoga for athletes. It will build core strength and tendon strength along with improved agility. About a 1/2 hour a day 3-4 times a week. Also, bands. Strength bands are money for young kids still growing. *One last thing that I heard was being tried a few years ago was some sort of speed treadmill that forced you to run at an accelerated rate (faster than you could otherwise) and it had some safety device as well. But I heard it was being tested on HS kids in Texas to get them to run faster than they usually would. Don't know a name or anything...sorry. |

| 4 years 11 weeks ago | Kind of OT |
I played in the intramural championship basketball game last night. I joined the team this year but the core group has won 3 straight titles and has never lost. We lost. Our best three guys went about 1-20 from deep (not exaggerating) and we lost by four. The past few years I have been one of the best players on my IM team but this year I was the 6th man. It was weird but these guys were so much more fun to play with that it was worth it. The funny thing is that they named the team "We Will Four-pete" The irony is so thick I can taste it. No I would not brag about being an IM champ either. Even if I put up 50 pts and hit the game winner in the 6th OT. |

| 4 years 12 weeks ago | Damnit! I made a comment |
Damnit! I made a comment below this, hit save and realized that instead, I should have posted a recipe. So here goes: Stomach bag and pluck (heart, liver and lights of a sheep -- Thoroughly wash the stomach bag in cold water. Turn it inside out and scald it, then scrape the surface with a knife. Soak it in cold salted water overnight. Next day remove the bag from the water and leave it on one side while preparing the filling. Wash the pluck. Put it into a pan, with the windpipe hanging over the side into a bowl, to let out any impurities. Cover the pluck with cold water, add 1 teaspoon of salt and bring the water to a boil. Skim the surface, then simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Meanwhile parboil the onions, drain, reserving the liquid, and chop them roughly. Also toast the pinhead oatmeal until golden brown. Drain the pluck when ready and cut away the windpipe and any excess gristle. Mince half the liver with all the heart and lights, then stir in the shredded suet, the toasted oatmeal and the onions. Season well with salt and pepper. Moisten with as much of the onion or pluck water as necessary to make the mixture soft. With the rough surface of the bag outside fill it just over half full, the oatmeal will swell during cooking, and sew the ends together with the trussing needle and fine string. Prick the bag in places with the needle. Place the haggis on and enamel plate and put it into a pan of boiling water. Cover the pan and cook for about 3 hours, adding more boiling water when necessary to keep the haggis covered. |

| 4 years 13 weeks ago | There is a huge difference |
There is a huge difference between a walk-on and a Elite 11 QB. Threet has had NFL aspirations since HS and is trying to fulfill that dream. Playing at UM is not the be-all end-all for some guys. Playing in the League is the ultimate goal for other, better players. A walk-on better than average HS player's only goal maybe to play on the UM team, get an education and move on to a career with that education. Not everyone's priorities are the same and I find nothing wrong with Threet's priorities being to look out for his potential NFL prospects. Good post and a good story. |

| 4 years 13 weeks ago | Threet does have a chance at |
Threet does have a chance at the pro's unlike schlubs like us. If he is a fringe prospect for the league then not playing for 2+ years kills his chances. They are looking at this as a career choice, not just a college choice. I'm not saying that Threet is a pro-prospect, but any chance he has is going to be at another program. |

Good thing you provided a ling Brodie. Because Craven blew a fuse at the audacity of someone making a claim without a link to the thread. That claim was the initial Threet to transfer thread that he call "OUTRAGEOUS!!!!111!!!" |

| 4 years 13 weeks ago | Yeah, his play was a huge |
Yeah, his play was a huge factor. Sheridan's had nothing to do with it. Neither did the shitty O-Line that gave him little time and couldn't run block. The piss poor sheme's, execution and overall level of play by the defense didn't hurt much. The ungodly number of fumbles and the shitty special teams play also weren't huge factors. Of all the reasons that UM went 3-9, Threet not playing well (while he was hurt) was way down on the list. I would take a guy like Threet next year over a true frosh. Look at how 'well' Pryor did with 2x the talent and being an overall better player than our two frosh QB's. Next year will be a huge struggle without Threet. |

| 4 years 14 weeks ago | He was not a very high |
He was not a very high recruit. He was a 3* by both sites. He wasn't very fast and would need a few years before he was ready to chip in. Plus, he's not that big either. He was considered a good athlete that could chip in but not a immediate impact guy because he didn't star at one position. |

| 4 years 14 weeks ago | Your argument sounds so |
Your argument sounds so familiar....life-long coach retires after years of sub-standard play, young coach causing off-season controversy, good recruiting class, fan base torn between old way of life and new regime......no QB, a team that should have a strong defense with a sure fire first round pick in the next year or two, no real offense to speak of.....where have I heard this argument????????????? Oh yeah, we all made the same irrational posts last year. Good fucking luck in a conference a helluva lot harder than the B10. You may win more than three games, but not a lot more. |
| 4 years 14 weeks ago | Whoa |
No one team was the dirtiest. They were probably all on par. The Oakland teams couldn't have been much worse and A-Rod probably only said that the atmosphere there was 'worse' to make it seem like he wasn't the only one else who was doing it. |

How is it a shock? There was a notice that this was coming so the 'shock' thing is weird. But people act like this site is their life. Any change to the site and 'Holy Smokin Hell' their lives are turned upside down. Its a free site about amateur athletics at an academic institution. This isn't completely against you but so many people act as though their house burned down because Brian's gone. What if he just didn't post anything for a week? Would that work better? |
| 4 years 15 weeks ago | Who |
Haven't heard much from him. Is he the one that's a sleeper but also a package deal with Gonzalez. I hear he lacks power and needs to get in the WR but Barwis should take care of that. I'd be stoked if we got him he looks great on film and he's been playing forever so he's got good experience. We need lottery tickets and he would be one more. |

| 4 years 15 weeks ago | Wrong |
"I was starting my junior year of college when I was 18 and would have definitely have found it patronizing if someone had decided I was a kid that needed to be protected from the big bad world" You are an exception. These are not kids who are in their jr year of college and have known nothing in life but football and the people around them. Don't think that because you are more mature than them that they should be like you. Plus, there is so much seedy backdoor dealings going on that are way above these kids' level of comprehension that it is overwhelming. Yeah, they can vote, but I think most 18 yr olds are too immature to know who to vote for. I work with a lot of kids this age and they don't know jack from their ass. That's not a slight on them, it's just the way the vast majority (obviously you are an exception) develop and grow. |
| 4 years 15 weeks ago | The whims of 18 year olds |
The whims of 18 year olds change faster than a toddler's diapers. It's not that big of an issue for a kid to come back blown away from a visit and claim that School X is now the favorite. A lot of kids do this after visits. Big Will would be dubbed a "drama queen" to UM fans if he committed elsewhere, but he didn't, so he's a goofy big guy to us. It all depends on which fan base you ask. |

There's a natural level of talent and from there what is gained is based on work. Kids from Pahokee have a higher ceiling than a lot of the kids from Texas. Makes sense to me. |

| 4 years 16 weeks ago | Our AD in HS would not let |
Our AD in HS would not let you chant anything that might hurt the other teams feelings. He said that anything mean said to a player on the opposing team would be suspended from school. So the students started chanting "We Don't Like our AD" and "We have to be nice to you". Then when that was banned they just chanted "Our AD sucks". Since that was at a sold-out game against the cross-town rival, he has left students alone from then on. |

| 4 years 16 weeks ago | Proximity |
Though kids may not want to leave the south because of warm weather, the proximity to home probably plays a bigger factor. I don't see a lot of kids leaving the north to play at non-elite programs in the south. Yeah, the big time schools will get big time players but not many 3* from Indiana go to a southern school for the weather and I would bet that the same holds true for a 3* out of Florida not leaving his home state. |
| 4 years 16 weeks ago | limits |
Teams have more scholarships out there than those available and if someone doesn't sign on LOI day then they run the risk of having their spot filled. i don't know the technicalities of it but i know when pryor didn't commit, the Mexicutioner got a scholarship. thank god pryor didn't come here. can you imagine a UM world with out the Angry Enchilada. What's sad is that type of behavior is more prevalent in youth sports. Being competitive is a good trait to teach kids, but kicking people when their down is just BS. Maybe we are getting soft but a lot of people are turning into assholes, more so than before. It goes both ways |

| 4 years 16 weeks ago | I think there was more to it |
I think there was more to it than that. He kept pressing most of the game and afterwards was asked by school officials to apologize and he refused. Also, I think there was something where he posted some harsh comments about the school officials on a webpage. 100-0 is just being a dick. If I'm the ref in that game I'm calling fouls on his team if they breath hard on the other team. |
