But really, that's all people need to do from ages 18-55. A good advisor know that it's from 55 on that you earn your money with tax advise, healthcare options, insurance services, diversification, etc.
I would always recommend people max their retirements first but if you still have left over savings you need diversify into things outside of the market. Most advisors won't explain the benefits of owning income-producing R/E because they don't make the advisor money. Nor will most go into life insurance, fixed annuity or long-term care insurance which is really what a lot of baby boomers should worry about with the increasing cost of healthcare. Most just tell you to put it all in the market because historically it makes 8%. Then you get set to retire and the market dives 20% and now you can't retire because it was all in one basket.

Every situation of abuse seems so unique in terms of the demographics of the people involved but I know, as do you, that there are patterns in how and why they happen. I said I agreed with a lot of what you're saying. I also think it's good to have discussions about topics like this whether they be in person or on a message board because it brings awareness. I agree with some of what you're saying but if you're not a doctor directly treating someone please don't make a diagnosis of them on a message board. A lot of people cite an abusive situation from their life and say that this is the same thing and it's not. It's a unique situation just like everyone's abuse story is unique. I was so misguided in my emotions, decisions and outlook on life it makes me wonder how I made it through. And I had a very comfortable and happy upbringing with great parents. I know it's easy to be an adult and condemn this because it was so wrong but normal young people make awful decisions like this and knowing that we're still dealing with a kid and not a grown adult is important. No one on here is wrong for how they feel but I just think it's key to remember that he's still a kid in terms of mental development. we all were at one point and this may not be the man he becomes just like most of us aren't the kids we were in our early 20's.

While I don't think Stoops is coming here I think Wetzel's point is interesting. There have been rumors that OU fans are frustrated with what they see as disappointing seasons the last few years and I'm sure Stoops sees that as a being a bit ungrateful. Wetzel seems to reiterate that it won't happen but it's worth UM's time to at least feel it out. I doubt Stoops leaves but if things were to get stale or the fanbase chases him out then it seems plausible. I know most of us would say we would take the last 14 years of OU football in a heartbeat and say "how could they be upset with his performance" but he has high expectations and has been a disappointing few years.
The only thing that gives this credibility is every other time a good coach left somewhere because of absurd fan pressure or excessively high expectations.

There's so much to all of this and I think it always gets ugly fast on a board. But I don't feel like people have attacked non-revenue sports. I think they point to the price gauging and say "we paid all that money and don't get a return" in reference to the product on the FB field and atmosphere at the game. I've seen a lot of people point at non-revenue facilities and salaries and say that they don't mind seeing UM spending money there but have a problem with it if the revenue generating product is crap....which it is. I'm always fascinated by how an AD runs itself like a business but is such a warped version of that. We all say how we're the customer but I feel like we're quasi-employees because we're more vested in this "company" than a customer would be. I look at it and think of this scenario:
If I bought an iPad and it was a piece of junk but saw Apple spending a bunch of money into products that don't make money or are obsolete I would be mad about the crappy iPad and laugh when they went out of business for investing money incorrectly. But if I worked at Apple and they made a crappy iPad, charged a bunch for it and then went and spent money in those losing areas I would be hurt, worried and mad, especially if I cared deeply for the company I work for. It would be a completely different set of emotions and I think it mirrors our emotions towards a university better than trying to think of ourselves as a customer.
Note: I'm not saying non-revenue sports are obsolete or bad investments, just using that as my comparison in the manufacturing realm.

I feel for you. Our dogsitter lost one of our dogs two months ago while we were on our honeymoon. We came back early, looked endlessly for the past two months with no luck. My wife is still struggling with it. I hear the "it's just a dog" thing from people but when you raise one from a pup and then one day he's just gone it's more than "just a dog". I've never had a dog that didn't love me but I've known a lot of people who don't.
I hope your daughter is doing okay with all of it.

|32 weeks 2 days ago||1AA Caveats||
My dad has had Univ of Montana tickets for 30 years and I grew up there so I know the Big Sky pretty well and 1AA well. The first thing to look at is not the coach but the program. Any UM fan could have told you Hauck wasn't going to have much success because he wasn't that great at UM. His record was but that program has been cranking out 10 win seasons for 20 years. Plus, the Big Sky was a 2-3 team league for much of his tenure. He just maintained an outstanding program during a down time for the conference. He was a Special Teams coach whose brother was a legend at the school so his name got him the job. Plus, they sucked on special teams when he was there.
Baldwin at EWU is interesting but I'm not sold. When he was at Central they had a nice run but in a garbage conference and mostly because they had a great QB who now starts for a CFL team. He runs a nice offense but his success at EWU has been built on having a dynamic QB with little defense. Plus, the Big Sky is pretty top heavy these days so it's not too hard to have success in that conference. They have the benefit also of getting a lot of Pac-12 drop-downs and non-qualifiers because their admissions are pretty lax. Paull Wulff also built that up before flaming out at Wazzu.
If you go the 1AA route you have to find someone who took a garbage program in a mostly talentless region and developed something sustaining. One player can change a program in 1AA so short-term success should be measured carefully becuase it could have just been because of one elite player. That's why Stitt is such an entriguing possibility.
|33 weeks 4 hours ago||I think the main reason||
I think the main reason behind that is because most fanbases are crazy about winning and recruiting. The UM base is crazy about all these other thing you hear like The Michigan Way, culture and tradition. Not that they're not important but other fans just want wins. That's why some candidates may not come here. They don't want to deal with those non-coaching related things.

The game was over before the first turnover happened. Plus those other things you mentioned are not just overnight fixes. They're real problems that the team may have all year.

Your title suggests UM is elite. I would argue not being elite is the biggest difference between UM and the other elite programs.

I didn't say football experience, though that argument could be made. In HS he probably played more games by being a 3-4 year starter and the HS all-star games. But, playing at Duke and being hated by every opposing fan gives one a form of experience that Sheridan has none of. So, really he has more experience in athletics and quite possibly in football.

True, but there are a lot of times when people argue against something even when cold-hard evidence is flying in their face. Also, I was more after the reason why he thinks Paulus won't play. The original comment offered nothing to discussion and that is just a waste of the internet.
|6 years 5 weeks ago||Talent is talent and I'm not||
Talent is talent and I'm not saying he's better than Forcier but I think he's on-par or better than Sheridan. I know what we're getting with Sheridan and though he may be improved, Paulus has more talent, more maturity and more experience whether it's basketball or football. Talent is talent and Sheridan has little compared to Paulus. Again, not saying he will be better but the potential is there with Paulus and I don't think it is with Sheridan.
|6 years 5 weeks ago||Sources?||
Did one of the coaches tell you that? I'm not saying you're wrong but the worst part about an opinion is when someone states it as a fact. Statements of fact about unknown outcomes is like trying to prove a point by yelling louder than anyone.
Brown, you are in no way the only person who does this but it happens so often it's ridiculous. But a lot of people give reasons for their opinion, so at least do that.

|6 years 9 weeks ago||No it doesn't. He basically||
No it doesn't. He basically says that you need 16 teams to keep people from bitching. Not that they could actually win, which they could. He says that he'll put aside his logic (that no 8+ seed could win) to appease angry people. How is that better than the current system? How does he know a 17 seed has no right to gripe? 15-25 in rankings are not that different and going with that many teams makes it more objective. His whole argument is flawed and that paragraph should point that out.
|6 years 9 weeks ago||I once had a teacher tell me||
I once had a teacher tell me that an entire paper I had written contained a lot, but said little. You do that a lot. You write lengthy posts that say little that is actually correct. Like this gem:
"Yes, but unlike basketball, the 17th best team has no chance of winning the NC in a playoff unless the ratings are badly skewed. Until a number sixteen seed wins, there would really be no reason to gripe. I am guessing that nobody below eight would win, but letting sixteen teams in is a great way to make sure nobody with a legitimate chance is left out."
That whole thing is just a paragraph of hot-garbage.

There was a 5* kicker from Montana who went to Oklahoma them proceeded to drink his way to some NAIA school. There are 5* kickers, they only get the extra 2+ stars for being a badass from Montana.

if you actually knew he was being paid. The original article didn't mention it. Also, there are a lot of people who do this and there are companies designed to handle recruiting for players. The one I know of is used by non-star players (NAIA, DII, & 1AA level) to get film out and build awareness and also because these coaches at small schools have a hard time finding the right kids because there are so many of them out there. My buddy used a company like that because he wanted to play anywhere but wasn't good enough to warrant a D-1 scholarship.
I'm not saying that Butler is legit, just saying that it's more likely to be legit since he is a business and not a 'family friend' like in the OJ Mayo case. Neutral third party of sorts.

Put in crock pot in early morning (about 8:00 a.m.). Turn crock pot to low - let cook all day. When returning home from work about 4:00 or 5:00 you will have a delicious baked troll. Remove from crock pot with spatula to keep from falling apart. You will have about 2 cups of troll broth in pot. Use for gravy over rice or mix with Stove Top stuffing instead of water. Garnish with spices and enjoy! Serves 6-8 people.

I played in the intramural championship basketball game last night. I joined the team this year but the core group has won 3 straight titles and has never lost. We lost. It was weird but these guys were so much more fun to play with that it was worth it. The funny thing is that they named the team "We Will Four-pete" The irony is so thick I can taste it. No I would not brag about being an IM champ either. Even if I put up 50 pts and hit the game winner in the 6th OT.
