Ok. Please get in touch if you are interested in having access to a lot for gardening on Cottage Grove Ave. in Flint. The lot is abutting the big field behind Durant-Tuuri-Mott Elementary. The MGoStaff can put you in touch with me if you are interested, or you can just post something here and I'll see it.

Is there a website where I can read more about your plans for Flint-area gardens? Do you need land? The house my mother grew up in is now just a vacant lot; I've been wanting to buy it but I'm not close enough to it, so I need someone who would do something with it to maintain it somehow.

All the people who want Narduzzi for our HC make me really sad. He sent players out to end Denard's career and defended it afterwards.
I scheduled a flight during the second half of the OSU game so I didn't have to watch the beating. But I wouldn't have to put any work into arranging a way to avoid watching games if Narduzzi were our coach. I'd just be done.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I don't understand all the fuss||
We've known Hackett would be around for a while because Schlissel's going to take his sweet time with the search. Some national media guys find this out, and claim Hackett is the permanent AD because they can't wrap their little brains around Schlissel not moving at the speed of the newscycle. And then everybody freaks out because they forget that we already know everything that national media guys think they just learned but actually misunderstood.
That's what happened, right? So we should probably just calm down now.

He's had family members lobbying him to transfer for years, as first noticed (by me!) a few years ago when his sister tweeted that he should become a Gator. I suspect that his family thinks he can play in the NBA, and what he'd been doing at Michigan certainly wasn't going to get him there.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||Just to be clear||
You quoted a 10 year number for cop deaths and a 1 year number for killer cops. That's 150 cop deaths per year, and between 400 and 3000 killer cops per year.
Based on your numbers, I agree with you that cops are in great moral danger of becoming murderers every time they go to work, and in between 5% and 37.5% as much danger of being killed themselves.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||DG's last answer is great||
It's great that these kids continue to have such a good relationship with Hoke. That'll be what we have to hang our hats on if, somehow, he keeps his job.
|4 weeks 5 days ago||Your long paragraph fits me||
I was kind of willing to blame the Morris reinsertion on the doctors, and I was happy to blame the Morris press conference shenanigans on Brandon given that it really looked like Hoke got hung out to dry, but the apology to Dantonio throwing Joe Bolden under the bus was totally beyond the pale. Dantonio has repeatedly let his players try to injure/maim/kill Michigan players on the field without a peep from either side. He runs a dangerous program that our players shouldn't have to deal with. So apologizing to him was not just preposterous, but totally inconsistent with leading Michigan's football program. Even if that was Brandon controlling Hoke, at some point you've got to have a backbone if you want to be a leader, and issuing that apology was just absolutely inexcusable. He lost me for real in that moment.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||Marshall||
The whole point of the playoff was to give undefeated teams a shot. I have Marshall at 4 if they remain undefeated.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||you're right that the OP is wrong||
But I think you were wrong to take this down. All of the critics were just pointing to what the cops said, as if police reports have never gotten anything wrong before. Hoke did say that he got both sides of the story, and how he got FC's side of the story is an open (and interesting) question.
|4 weeks 6 days ago||The OP is not exactly wrong||
It's unclear how Hoke got enough information to make the call without speaking to Clark. But he did say he'd heard both sides of the story. I'm guessing he talked to a teammate who Clark had texted or something afterwards. You can't throw the guy off the team unless you're confident he's not being falsely accused, and you have to have something beyond the police report for that. But Hoke said he had it, and I believe him about that.

Hopefully the victim heals physically and emotionally and gets Frank out of her life before he hurts her or her baby again.
As for us, after Gibbons left, we could claim to be free of violent criminals for the first time in years. With Clark booted--granted only after he turned violent criminal--we are free of criminals altogether, right? YMMV on the role of the second receiver in the Csont'e York sucker punching (I, for one, think he should also have been charged), but this is an improvement.

I keep thinking of making a snowflake thread of my own about Hoke, but it's not really thread-worthy. I'm sad for him, but I'm also sad for us because I think he would've been a great fit if he could have gotten the team to perform. People have said it before, and I agree: his loyalty to position coaches who are in over their heads will eventually have cost him his dream job. You gotta wonder whether a less incompetent Athletic Director might have been able to support Hoke in a way that led to success on the field instead of Appalachian State rematches and PR disasters.
|5 weeks 3 days ago||Yes||
Everyone is fired, except Williams who ought to be fired and may be before this is all over (although I'm sure they'll allow him to resign if it comes to that). The accreditor has to investigate. Making sure this sort of thing doesn't happen is more or less the only thing they do. They're just very slow organizations.
I suspect that UNC will explain the actions they've taken and the accrediting body will say that's enough and put them on some kind of weak probation. Maybe the accreditors will demand some additional oversight or something if UNC's existing actions aren't sufficiently impressive.
But a really interesting thing will be what the NCAA does after an accrediting body makes it undeniably official that the UNC AD was making an absolute mockery of the whole student-athlete thing.

|6 weeks 6 days ago||Thank you||
Thanks for pushing back against this stupid narrative. Dave Brandon wants people to think it was all about the football team's record. The total clusterfuck surrounding a student-athlete's brain injury, which was reflective of the total mismanagement of the Athletic Department by Dave Brandon and his ego, precipitated his firing. That was Dave Brandon's fault and Dave Brandon's fault alone. Don't let him throw the football team under the bus.
It would be unfortunate if DB and his minions managed to pull the wool over people's eyes about this. The student with the loudspeaker at the rally at the President's house gave DB much more cover than he deserved by complaining about football performance. But that shouldn't cloud the narrative for those of us who have been paying attention.

This was already addressed in a thread on Mealer's comment. Of course it's disappointing, especially if these are the kinds of men Michigan has been making the past several years. When did they fire Roy Williams? I must've missed it.
Also, you can whine all you want, but the rules for accreditation are the rules. The end.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||I see one downside||
The only downside of firing him now that I can see is that the letter announcing he's being fired for cause for not only being screamingly incompetent, not only intentionally and illegally destroying records, but even actively damaging the program's long-term health through his own arrogance will be more awesome the longer they have to add rhetorical flourishes.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||You can re-earn accreditation||
That endowment means that UNC probably has enough money to survive until it can re-earn accreditation, even if it really loses it. Though the much more likely (and I think probably more appropriate, given the rules) outcome would be for UNC to be put on some kind of probation. If individual departments could lose accreditation, that'd be another solution. But I don't know the rules that SACS operates by.
It might be helpful to see the kinds of things that happen when a school's accreditation is seriously threatened. Here are some details in the ongoing case of San Francisco City College, which has 79,000 students.

|7 weeks 5 days ago||I believe what happens is||
I believe what happens is that institutions are periodically reviewed by their accrediting bodies on a set schedule (e.g., every 5 years). I don't know if media or institutional revelations can trigger a change in that schedule, but I would expect UNC to get some serious scrutiny in their next regular review. I would not be surprised to see the accreditor demand evidence of acceptable academic standards in UNC's affected departments during the review, although I don't know if that demand would be FOIA-discoverable, so it may never come to light.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Of course it won't. The||
Of course it won't. The question is whether it should. And I do think they'll have some serious questions to answer during their next accreditation review.
I also wonder what the next external review of their Department of African, African-American, and Diaspora Studies will be like. The media ought to be watching that and putting serious pressure on the external reviewers to be thorough.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||The relevant difference||
The relevant difference here is that university presidents don't give a flying fuck about athletics or amateurism. They have real jobs to do. But ensuring that academic standards are upheld well enough to meet the basic requirements to retain accreditation and the associated ability to receive federal financial aid dollars is a central part of that job. They really do care about that.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Yes.||
This website is amazing. Yukon Cornelius. What the fuck.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Wow, thanks||
I don't know how to divide or use calculators, so your comment was really helpful.
But this reminds me that somebody should really do something about calculator companies. Calculator companies are super greedy. I mean, they're too cheap to buy enough ink for the second plus sign on calculators--you know what I mean, the funny symbol with the dots above and below the horizontal line that results from not using enough ink when trying to make a plus sign. Even worse, that plus sign doesn't even work. It's always returning numbers that aren't whole numbers even when you add two whole numbers. Calculator companies just the worst!
|7 weeks 5 days ago||There are a number of regional bodies||
UNC's accreditor is the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||You missed the point||
Accreditation is controlled by much more serious people than the NCAA. It is in the hands of actual adults.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||They were discussing faculty||
They were discussing faculty and staff, yes. Who filed those charges? I haven't filed this closely. I'd imagine there are other crimes here that are sufficiently distinct that double jeopardy would not apply.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Yes||
It might be worth noting that 3000 students is 150% of the size of the student body at Macalester.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Re: federal funds||
If you wade into the comments on the CHE article itself, you'll see some discussion of whether people should be going to jail for defrauding the federal government by stealing federal aid funds in connection with these classes.
Curioser and curiouser.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||They did find that, I think||
The benefit, AFAIK, was not reserved only for student-athletes.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Well, read the article||
The classes weren't only taken by athletes.
And despite the pull quote in the OP, I'm not convinced the real accreditation question is what feels most appropriate. There are standards for accredited institutions to uphold, and UNC blew it.
Your last point is plausible. I don't know what the usual course of events is, and while the headline of the article says UNC should lose its accreditation, the body says only that it should be suspended (per the pull quote in the OP). Are those the same thing? Either way, do you at least agree that UNC should now be subject to the kind of warning period you have in mind?
|7 weeks 5 days ago||Hoke, yes. Brandon, no.||
What you say is a reason to let Hoke resign with some dignity. Dave Brandon has embarrassed himself and the University while apparently repeatedly breaking laws regarding record keeping. He should be fired for cause and marched out of Schembechler Hall by security.

First, holy unnecessary legal argot. Please see item 1 at http://www.kentlaw.edu/academics/lrw/grinker/LwtaLegalese.htm. If you want further replies from me, you'll have to speak regular English so everyone who is interested in this exchange can follow it easily. I would also like you to either (i) acknowledge that you were wrong on the law re: what it takes to freeze FOIA'd documents in Michigan or (ii) provide evidence that you were not wrong on that question. (To satisfy (ii), please cite Michigan or federal legislation or a case that constitutes binding precedent on Michigan circuit courts, and provide direct hyperlinks.)
Second, the FOIA request is already reproduced above, so you can read it for yourself if you're interested.
Third, I believe I've already adequately responded to everything else on this thread.
To reiterate: I will not respond to any more posts from you unless you cut the legalese and speak plainly.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||Not really...||
I didn't say that I think it's fake in the post you responded to. I said that we now have "at least some evidence" that the email is fake. That's a pretty weak claim. (Compare: The extended Bronco chase was at least some evidence that O.J. was guilty. The glove not fitting was at least some evidence that O.J. was innocent.)
|8 weeks 3 days ago||uh...||
I believe a FOIA request freezes the document from the time of the request to 180 days after the U's written denial (at which point my legal right to appeal to the President and/or sue them for disclosure expires).
Also, BiSB is a lawyer, and saw my FOIA request a long time ago, and also I believe submitted one of his own on behalf of MGoBlog. But I appreciate the unwarranted sanctimony of your response; sometimes I think I know everything, too.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||my request should've caught it...||
Dear Ms. Sellinger, This is an official Freedom of Information Act request for a complete email chain, including the email described below, which I will call EMAIL ONE, the email sent from the email address to which it was directed as a response, and any other FOIA-accessible email related to it via the common reply or forwarding email functions. I also hereby request any email originating from email@example.com containing the phrase "have a happy life" and any email originating from firstname.lastname@example.org containing the phrase "without you". I believe EMAIL ONE originated from email@example.com. I believe the content of EMAIL ONE to be, at least in part, the following: I suggest you find a new team to support. > We will be fine without you. > Have a happy life... Please confirm receipt of this FOIA request at your earliest convenience. Thank for your prompt attention, Professor [Jon06] (AB '06, MA [xx], Ph.D [xx])
|8 weeks 3 days ago||I would assume it doesn't exist, but who knows||
AFAICT, it does not guarantee that the thing doesn't exist. But it either doesn't exist or they don't have to disclose that it does. It might just not be a "responsive" record, if part of what "responsive" means is that the thing is FOIA-accessible. There are a variety of law enforcement exceptions that allow agencies to deny that a record exists, for example. Maybe his emails aren't FOIA-accessible, and that allows the same move. IANAL and anyway I can't tell what the law requires here.
But I take this as at least some evidence that the email was fabricated. (We could tell how good the evidence is if someone would FOIA some emails they know to exist to see what happens then.)

|9 weeks 5 days ago||[you aren't] asking me, but i'll respond||
Earlier today I said (in some MGoBoard thread...maybe not this one) that I don't buy the narrative about a team-wide talent development problem. It seems right at QB, OL, and RB (and maybe I should add TE), but not elsewhere. I do not think the problem with Countess is how he is being coached. I think the problem is the scheme change, which I don't consider a talent development problem even though it was obviously the coaches' decision. Hopefully that makes sense. For what it's worth, I think Lewis has always been pretty good, and I don't have any opinion about how he's being coached. (I may be confusing Lewis and Stribling here, but I think Dear Leader thinks he's just stopped getting beat by perfect throws and/or phasing out of existence when the ball comes at the whim of a pissed-off gypsy.)
As for Stribling, I can't tell whether he got any snaps because I had a hard time distinguishing 6 and 8 on the jerseys from my seat during the game. Every time I thought he was in the game, it turned out to be Taylor.
ETA: I just realized you were asking somebody else. I am apparently an overactive OP today. Sorry.

In my defense, you can be a heck of a muse.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||an unrelated question for you||
Where do the conventions for abbreviations you use come from? I've never seen them before, but they seem to be completely unambiguous and easy to decipher, so I assume it's from some established newspaper or gambling typographic system.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||It's my fault on this thread||
Usually the snarkers are to blame but I did it to myself here. But no worries--there is some real discussion above, and hopefully there will be more below.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||yep||
From the OP:
The way this discussion board thing works is that you read the OP before you comment on it. /snark
|9 weeks 5 days ago||one point of disagreement left||
I disagree with this, because (having had it pointed out to me already on this thread that it's hard to play in the NFL if you literally cannot play man) I think he's basically a depth CB and/or a practice squad player who earns his keep simulating zone defenders. I think it's easier to catch on as one of those things if you can get a team to spend a late-round draft pick on you than if you're an UDFA, and I think somebody would spend a late-round draft pick on Countess if he can record a few more interceptions next year. But I think that'll only happen if he's playing in a zone coverage scheme.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||oh fuck off it's a metaphor||
[ETA: wait a minute...are you guys just quoting Austin Powers? My bad. Leaving this for posterity anyway.]
You can find hundreds more if you want, I'm sure.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||Look upthread||
Blue in Yarmouth raised this issue upthread, where it already has one response. Please continue that discussion up there--it's an interesting question.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||Yes.||
It is really surprising that BC has played so poorly this year after he'd looked so good early in his career. It's worth talking about.
I do think the #2 thing makes it more ironic than it'd otherwise be, though. (See tags.)
|9 weeks 5 days ago||agree to disagree?||
If he can prove he's still an A+ zone merchant, I think he's easily worth a 6th/7th round pick. But I also think that's a reasonable thing to disagree about, so ok.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||i'll play||
So I told you what advice I'd give him, and I'll tell you now as explicitly as I can that I think it's supportive to give people the advice that you think is actually in their best interest, even if they don't want to hear it.
Here's a related example: I have a student right now who is about to walk away from a 60k/year scholarship at my current SLAC doing something he's good at to transfer to a community college in order to pursue a degree in my field, with which he's fallen in love. I give him a new reason why this is a stupid idea every week, because I think it's a stupid idea. But I'll also write him a recommendation letter when he does it anyway, because I want to support him in whatever he ultimately decides to do. That's how to be supportive, IMO.
In Countess's case, I'd present him with all the reasons to transfer that I could, because that's what I think is in his professional best interest. I'd also support him if he decided to stay, of course, but I don't think whoever's advising him is being supportive if they're not advising him to the best of their ability, which will sometimes involve telling him what's true even if he's not inclined to believe it or act on it.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||I know :)||
Why do you think I put the over/under so high on this otherwise good thread? I know how the internet works. I've just never seen a bear I didn't want to poke.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||I mostly agree||
I hope I didn't seem mad at BC. I think it's sad that the staff changed schemes in a way that put him in a position to fail. (I kind of think the NCAA should have one-time no-fault transfer rules that allow student-athletes to switch programs if there's a scheme change, even if there isn't a coaching change.)
I'm not sure about the development issues on a team-wide level, though I do think there are serious questions about our RB, OL, and QB development. I agree that talent identification is a big problem when it comes to getting the most productive players on the field, although as recently as this summer we all thought this coaching staff was very good at identifying high school talent.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||just couldn't resist||
…I know. That's why I did it. I'm sick, doc.
Substance: I don't think it's coaching. I think it's 100% a bad fit with the new scheme.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||gimme fuel gimme fire gimme somethingsomethingsomething||
More supportive? If I were advising Countess, I would tell him to transfer to a program with an established zone coverage scheme. He has high-level skills that are not being used in this defense, and it's endangering his future in his craft. The fit is just bad for him in a press coverage scheme. It's best for the program if he stays, but I'm not sure that's best for him.
I really don't know how saying that is unsupportive of a student-athlete, though. I think he can be great and make it to the League if he gets himself on a zone coverage defense.

I like what you're thinking but I don't think SAs should have to stand up to an incompetent AD administration themselves. I think that's too much to ask of them.
Incidentally, this pretty much is a school in the middle of a civil war, isn't it? The whole point of continuing to protest is to show them that the tension will be here until the root problem is fixed.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Why?||
Why, exactly? This morning I wake up to find I'm up 30 MGoPoints from before I started the thread, which now has 35 upvotes to 26 downvotes. I've been the only one arguing my side against literally the entire board before. I've even been wrong--badly wrong--on the internet before. It's ok, it happens. I'm an adult, so I can handle it. But in this thread there's a pretty deep disagreement, more people upvoted the OP than downvoted it, and I'm not quite the only one on my side no matter how deep you go in the comments.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||It must've been the 90s,||
It must've been the 90s, because I can remember it pretty clearly and I was born in 1983. In fact, I have pictures of myself in the stadium in 1989 and I'm almost certain the wall is short then.
Also, Wikipedia says 1991.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||?????||
I genuinely have no idea what you find wrong with that comment. A guy with 200 MGoPoints suggested the problem was DB lining his own pocket. That is not and never has been my complaint, nor anyone else's major complaint. The only time DB's money comes up is when somebody trying to defend DB pretends he's "serving his university" rather than raking in beaucoup bucks to try to make us feel bad for criticizing his poor job performance.
If I make another handle and get it 200 points then agree with something you say and offer a terrible reason for agreeing with you, will you thereby be committed to that terrible reason?

Social media strategies are individuated by platform and obviously change over time. I agree that I didn't make that explicit before but I thought you weren't an idiot. Mea culpa. Thanks for the additional pictures of coaches' quotes and things from other years. I appreciate their continued irrelevance.
The Funchess picture is still not on Facebook. You are still lying. I am still not super impressed with your candor here.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||I think Brian Cleary has been||
I think Brian Cleary has been getting mocked because of his statement, and that the AD bears responsibility for that. That's all I mean.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||NOT ON MICHIGAN FOOTBALL FACEBOOK PAGE||
Does the mic drop mean you want me to respond to this one? It's hard to tell because you also posted a bunch of irrelevant things, like images of coaches' quotes after I told you like 5 posts ago that previously they'd used coaches' quotes. I'm not really fluent in obfuscationism.
Let's just respond to this one. You work for the AD, right? Is that why you're pretending this image was on the Michigan Football Facebook page, which is the only thing we've been discussing here? It wasn't. Simply wasn't. You're lying. See the previous image I posted. I confess it was relevant after all. Why are you lying, dude?
It's not a tin foil thing to point out that you're lying, which you are, plain as day. It's just not there. You and the other Brandonites can downvote me all you want, but you know I'm right, which is why you first posted a bunch of coaches' quotes I already told you were there, and then you came up with this image which was never on the FB page. So, are you ready to agree the social media strategy has changed now?
|10 weeks 5 days ago||I'm confused about what||
I'm confused about what game we're playing here. Am I just supposed to compare a number you pick with another number you pick? Why do I care about revenue rather than profit? Do you even have to pick numbers that both represent profits or can you pick profits in one case and revenues in the other case? Are we allowed to engage in "hypothetics"? I mean, can we compare what the profit would be if DB hadn't alienated a ton of fans with what it turns out to be?
Let me know what the rules are and then maybe you can tell me how to feel about the comparison if you're feeling generous. I mean, I hear I only have an EMU degree so you might have to help me out. My poor Eagle(?) head is spinning here.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Yes, those were all coaches||
Funchess is also wearing last year's number in that photo. What year is it from? We're trying to establish whether they changed their PR strategy to avoid the kickoff boycott by using a SA. The Funchess picture isn't from the FB page in 2014. I mean, I could also post irrelevant things. For example, here is a picture of a movie poster:
But let's focus here.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Easy fix: I don't believe||
Easy fix: I don't believe that.
ETA: there are a few people just downvoting everything I say on this thread, but maybe this one requires more explanation. Michigan taxpayers have an interest in how virtually every part of the University is run, regardless of whether their tax dollars go to any particular part of it. In the case of the AD, unused dollars become General Fund dollars, so stupidly used dollars or stupidly foregone dollars (in the case of alumni told to find other teams to support) are dollars that do not end up in the General Fund. That's a connection that involves only following the money. I also think Michigan taxpayers have an interest in their public institutions being run in a transparent and accountable manner, which is another source of interest in the AD despite its self-sufficiency on paper. There is also the fact that the current AD's points policy undermines academic fundraising by dispensing privileges disproportionately on academic donors, which both President Schlissel and academic development officers do not like. Ok. Just spelling out the rest of the easy fix for all you haters.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||what is this shit||
I don't hang out with cats, mofo.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||This made me laugh||
But we know the AD revamped PR strategy last Wednesday. I urged President Schlissel, in the same email where I notified him of my pending FOIA request, "to instruct the athletic department to put an immediate end to any activities intended to produce positive social media buzz about the current athletic director in a way that places current student-athletes at risk of harsh public censure."
At the time I was reacting to last week's spate of pro-DB SA tweets. But this image is more of the same, and it should be beneath Michigan Athletics to repurpose an athlete's enthusiasm to protect the Athletic Director from a protest.
Ain't no reach.

Oh, I must have missed all the pro-DB tweets from before this scandal. Might you be able to link me to them?
By the way, I don't think and have never said I think that DB is forcing SAs to support him. I think he is doing things that encourage them to support him publicly (wink wink nudge nudge), and otherwise (as here) publicly repackaging/repurposing what they say to prevent protests directed at him personally.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Go to Michigan Football's||
Go to Michigan Football's Facebook page and see if you can find something. (Hint: nope.)
At this point I would just like you to admit that it is a change in social media strategy. Then we can work on getting to the acknowledgement that it is a change in social media strategy that treats SAs as pawns to save DB's job.

It was probably also made by one of the 118 yes men DB hired after he fired a ton of AD employees for risible reasons.

I assume you also missed the half-dozen other SAs who "spontaneously" posted about how much they love Brandon during his tour of practices last week.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Let's be honest here||
Downvote this post if you're paid by the athletic department to downvote posts that criticize Brandon. I'm putting the over/under on AD sockpuppets at 12. Any takers?
|10 weeks 5 days ago||But it's not their job||
Football players are at the Universty of Michigan to play football and to get an education. They are not here to help DB put out PR fires he created through his own arrogance and incompetence. If he can't do his job without asking student-athletes to spend their personal political capital to stop the fans from protesting him, he can't do his job.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Because there will be consequences to ignoring it||
First, it's a public school, and aside from having paid Michigan taxes for several years, I'm also an alumnus (x3) and periodic donor. They include several of my academic accomplishments on various umich.edu pages to boost their own profile. How dare they not care what I want?
But you're right, aaamichfan. There's no reason in all that that some of them--e.g., Dave Brandon--can see for them to care. That is, there's no reason they can see for them to care unless they repeatedly get bad press for flouting their fans' desires. That's why the boycott must go forward. That's why the students should again be on the Diag and on the President's lawn demanding change. We have to give them reason to care what we want.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Please read the comments||
Please read the comments above from your fellow Wolverines--not just me--about the appropriateness of this specific change in PR strategy.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Perfect illustration||
We're going to have days if not weeks of jokes at Brian Cleary's expense because of the way DB is encouraging student-athletes to go out on a limb for him. The AD should be telling student-athletes to stay out of it and emphasizing to them that the fans only want what is best for them and the program. But instead the AD has them all convinced there's no distinction between boycotting Brandon and criticizing student-athletes. That's yet another instance of Dave Brandon's Athletic Department letting student-athletes down.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||It's the first time all year||
It's the first time all year they've used a quote from a student-athlete instead of something made by a graphic designer with no quotes, or occasionally a Brady Hoke quote or (once) a Swag Mattison quote.
They're changing their social media strategy specifically to combat the boycott. They're well within their rights to do that, but using student-athletes as pawns to stop a protest is a bridge too far.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||Too convenient||
It's the guy who fields kickoffs. But DB is counting on people being as gullible as you'd like me to be.

|10 weeks 5 days ago||It proves they actually need to fire Brandon||
If people give up now, as all these DB puppets are suggesting, then DB will be able to tell President Schlissel and the regents that people were just emotionally overreacting to the Utah loss. He'll be able to tell them it will all blow over soon. He'll be able to survive.
If you're a DB supporter, just own it. Don't pretend you want him gone while you work to save him. That's some Benedict Arnold shit.

|10 weeks 5 days ago||This is not indirect. This is not failing to support the team.||
This is visible and public. It is direct. It will be maximally direct if they show up for pregame events and then leave en masse for kickoff before returning.
There is no distinction between demanding DB's firing and supporting the team. People want DB fired so that an AD that better supports the team can be hired.

He has a high paying job here, Professor. Higher paying than the job you purport to have, for instance.
Also, nobody is saying he's evil. He's just not good at this job.
|10 weeks 5 days ago||They can do both||
They can also be in the stadium for the pregame stuff and leave for kickoff. In fact, doing that would send the clearest message. (I actually think they should do it for the entire first quarter, but what they actually do is up to them.)
|10 weeks 6 days ago||"Decatur"?||
Wish I understood the rationale behind all the names here.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||Brandon out||
I think Brandon has proven too divisive and must go ASAP. I'm willing to give Hoke a chance to turn it around under competent leadership, but they need to fix the AD leadership now so that the turn around can begin this season. I think it'll be hard to justify giving Hoke another year under new leadership next year if we haven't seen signs of improvement with Brandon already gone towards the end of this season.
|10 weeks 6 days ago||The real issues are not about football performance||
I think DB should be fired because it's totally believable he would send insulting emails to the fanbase. If the FOIA requests come back showing he's actually done it as egregiously as reported, he's simply not fit for the job no matter who supports him or what coach he can hire.
Corporatism/profiteering is another disqualifying feature of DB, IMO, but the most serious issue is that he appears to be unable to accept responsibility in any substantial way for any problems that have occurred. Not only do they all have their own story, but that story certainly exonerates DB.
|11 weeks 1 hour ago||I'm not the right person to ask about this||
I think of FOIA as only applying to government agencies, but I suppose publicly traded companies also have some obligations. But IDK. IANAL, and I've never done this before. 5 business days + a 10 business day extension for complicated requests is how FOIA law works in the state of Michigan. But I only know that from Google.
This is not in Brandon's hands. He doesn't oversee FOIA releases, and UM has bigger problems than we all think if he can personally obstruct them.
Re: legal action: I have lots of lawyer friends, but I love Michigan and have every confidence in the people who run the place (at least, outside of the current AD administration). I do not expect to have to make any decision about legal action.
