I believe top 2 would have to be Tate and Gardner. Tate had off the field issues, but he was a talented QB.
Gardner never had an offensive coach like Harbaugh, and his supporting cast was not what it should have been for him to be successful.
For the same reason as Gardner - Funchess.
I do not agree with Denard, Hart, or Campbell.

It is a stupid reason to drink. But St. Practice Day weekend is still the weekend before and then there are still celebrations on 3/17.
|1 year 23 weeks ago||Perspective||
The drunk driving was dumb.
When I was in college (LC and RR years) and it was St. Patty's day weekend, we drank early and we drank hard.
This offense was stupid. He's on probation and there's always the chance he'll be randomly drug tested. He made a poor decision and got caught.
But really... lambasting a college kid for drinking during a holiday weekend where the holiday is celebrated by drinking all day with your friends? He took a risk and things did not come up Milhouse. He is going to be appropriately punished. Whoever is trashing him, I'm sure you were a blast at parties.
I understand you're disappointed in him, and that disappointment may come out in the form of name calling and anger because he is arguably our best offensive lineman. But name calling and belittling the kid is does nothing positive for our fanbase.

I have to imagine Glasgow is going to be in the lineup next week, and I think it's a 50:50 chance Cole or Miller comes out. Cole did a fine job against App St., but they listed his size as 275 lbs on tv(I know I've seen him listed as heavy as 292, but I think that's grossly inflated). I don't think 275 lbs is going to hold up against the more talented DEs our LT could be facing.
I don't feel it's a wasted red shirt, because he could be our 6th man, who will probably see time down the schedule.

|2 years 22 weeks ago||Summarizing this thread||
There have been a lot of arguments made in this thread, and I feel like people are trying to get in their .02 with disregarding what has been said.
A coach doesn't have to have played a position to be able to coach it.
This is true. I don't know anyone that would make this arguement. It may help to have played the position, especially with a QB coach, but it's not necessary, and there are a ton of examples where this is true as posters have pointed out.
If a coach is a good coach, then they can coach wherever.
To a point this is true. All good coaches should have similar skill sets. I think we could summarize those skills/abilities to: motivate kids, teach them proper technique, teach them their assignments, correct their mistakes, and really get the best out of them.
But technique is not always technique. Blocking is different for WRs, RBs, FBs, and OL. I don't think I've ever seen a RB kick step, for them it's more striking and driving, or cutting.
If someone has really coached 7 position groups, great. But I feel it takes a coach some time to really develop the expertise to know everything they're supposed to correct, and the ability to have the athletes correct those mistakes, even if it's a bad habit they've developed. That's where it may not be good to have a coach bounce around between a half dozen position groups, and most coaches resumes dont reflect those kinds of movements.
NCAA or NFL coaching career:
Meyer is the only coach to coach on both sides, but it was only for one year as an OLB coach. Coaches seem to have a specialty, either offense or defense, and they stay there.
Now, to the thread title: Why Roy Manning is the New CB Coach
Would they move manning to CB coach because of the rapport he developed with prospective athletes, who haven't played a down of Michigan football yet? I don't think so.
I do think Hoke put it best when he said something to the effect of dividing the coaches up a little more based on how many athletes/position group are on the field at one time. When we go into nickel there are 5 DBs on the field with 2 coaches, and a front 6 with 2 coaches. In our base 4-3 package every coach has at least 2 athletes.
Last year, we had a linebackers coach, Mark Smith, and we had an outside linebackers coach, Roy Manning. So in our base package there were 2 coaches for 3 positions. For our nickel package there were 2 coaches for 2 positions.
Overall I wouldn't worry too much about moving Manning to CB coach. I know not everyone agrees with me, but I really like Mallory as a DB coach, and I think if Manning has any issues, Mallory can help guide him.

|2 years 24 weeks ago||Consistency||
We saw Michigan have a few good games last year against a couple top 30 defenses - ND, OSU. We've seen what they can do. Nothing we lost on offense is completely unreplaceable. The loss of Gallon can be mitigated with the stable or receivers we now have. Lewan hurts the most. Lewan is going to be hard to find a replacement for, but replacing both tackles is a lot easier than replacing all 3 interior linemen.
"The one thing that needs to be done isn't an easy fix - and the bodies and experience at the position aren't improving a whole lot."
The bodies can improve quite a bit. What makes you say they aren't improving a whole lot?
There is no question we still have a lot of youth on the offensive line. We have no juniors or seniors at tackle or guard. I don't know another NCAA team that can say that. But we have plenty of bodies there, and I think the competition is going to be good for everyone. To me, the starting lineup looks like it has a little experience and a lot of talent. Mags - Bosch - Glasgow/Kugler - Kalis - Braden. (Assuming Mags fully comes back from his shoulder injury)
Mags, Bosch, Glasgow, and Kalis all had meaningful snaps last year. I would make the argument that offensive linemen make their biggest jump from their first year in gametime - as long as they take enough snaps - to their second year. Their position coach really can go through their tape witih them from the previous year, and work on whatever errors they had. The bodies we have there are capable, and hopefully they had enough mistakes on film from last year for Funk to correct with them.
About half a year until they need to play.

|2 years 26 weeks ago||Can't be a roster management move||
Definitely not a roster management move. SIgning day was a bit ago, and we didn't oversign; we actually banked a scholarship. If you wanted to make the argument that it opened up a scholarship for the 2015 class, I still don't know if I'd be able to see that. Bryant is a RS Junior. After this season, if the staff didn't really want him on the team, they may have parted ways with him graduating after 4 years, and he could've played somewhere on a grad school schollie.
Saban's medicals upset me because his players will still transfer to other good schools and are competetive. Saban has all sorts of creative ways to free up scholarships.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought when walk-ons are given scholarships, they're typically one-year scholarships. It wouldn't be pulling his scholarship, it would be not awarding him another one-year scholarship.
|2 years 31 weeks ago||Last I heard||
Last I heard about quality control coaches were from the Rich Rod era. IIRC, they were the ones overseeing summer practice sessions that got us in trouble with the NCAA with number of coaches that can attend summer events... or something to that effect.
Haven't heard about them in the Hoke era, but I imagine there were some in place.
|2 years 31 weeks ago||Locker||
Was actually having a discussion with a friend about Locker today. Locker's first year he put up 13 rushing TDs and 986 yards on the ground. In later years he was more of a ~400 yard rusher.
But I would have to say he has great speed, as would The Seattle Times Not elite, but great. I've heard when he was in high school he hit a few in the 4.4s. At the combine, he hit a 4.52 at 231 lbs.
I like the mobility comparrison of Barnett to Forcier. People give Forcier a lot of crap for throwing a lot of picks, but I think he could've been great in college if he was a starter later in his career.

They have to be delusional. 18th best scoring offense with 38.2 ppg.
|2 years 33 weeks ago||My .02||
Hoping Funk is gone, but I will not be heart broken if he isn't.
I don't agree with everyone bashing on Mallory. Our defense had the 23rd most interceptions this year, tied with Michigan State, at 17. To give some reference, the 97 defense had 23, and Florida State's ball hawking defense led the nation this year with 26. Ii have been impressed with each of our DBs at different times.
I don't mind if Jackson stays or goes. He's shown in the past that he is a very capable RB coach. He's been at U of M for over 20 years. He's coached with Moeller, Carr, Rich Rod, and Hoke. He's coached some amazing backs in his time here. He has seemed a bit lack luster since 2008, but I think he still has it in him.

I'm not saying Hoke is going to bully him into not being a douche nozzle. I'm saying I think Kiffin could learn how to win over a fan base from a guy like Hoke.
|2 years 33 weeks ago||Player development?||
He didn't seem to have much problems developing players at USC when he was TE coach, WR coach, or OC. From 2001 - 2006 he had a hand in developing offensive players. In that time there were 31 draft picks, 14 being offensive players, 9 of which were drafted in the 1st or 2nd round. Breaking it down a little further:
2001 - Kiffin is TE Coach - (6 - 6) - 3 players drafted, all later rounds.
Seems like they had some pretty good player development with 17 players drafted his last two years when he was the OC/recruiting coordinator. Also brought in some pretty solid recruits.

From LT to RT, I imagine it will be Magnuson, Kalis, Glasgow, Bosch, Braden.
Question: Why do you say Kugler and Dawson are so much in the mix that you just have to sit back and watch?
I've heard Kugler is coming off a shoulder injury, and is technically as sound as they come. I have not heard anything about Dawson though. Is there something I've missed?
What about Bryant? He started a few games this year. I think an entire off season to help his knee heal up will do wonders for him.
What about Miller? I know he was a little weak this year, but a full off season of lifting could help change that.
Overall, I think there is going to be some good competition on the OL, and I think they'll surprise a lot of people next year.

Agree with all the players, but I think Ferns could see some playing time at linebacker. This coaching staff doesn't seem to have any problem playing freshmen linebackers.
|2 years 33 weeks ago||Every bit the receiver Braylon was?||
That's asking a bit much. Braylon turned into the #3 overall pick, an all-american, and 10th in heisman voting. Edwards holds the record at michigan for most receptions, yards, and touchdowns.
I'm hoping Harris is going to turn into a great receiver at Michigan, but saying he's going to be every bit the receiver Edwards was is a statement.
|2 years 33 weeks ago||Supposedly||
Supposedly Watson has went through a bit of a growth spurt as of late and is at around 6'1" 190. If he really is that big, there is a chance he could see the field early because he has that size Mattison wants in his DBs.
|2 years 33 weeks ago||Jumping the gun a bit||
Hoke has been 2-1 vs. Notre Dame, but it's not like he holds Kelly's number and we can chalk that up to a win. It's an away game, and it's vs. a mobile quarterback, which Hoke's teams have suffered against. I would hope we win this game 5/10 times.
We take back the state? Michigan state loses Fowler, and 3 OL next year, but they have some pretty good depth on their OL and I think they'll be fine. Michigan state went 13-1 this year, with a win over a very talented Stanford team, and will finish #2 in the polls.
Their defense will take quite a blow, losing playmakers like Dennard, Lewis, Bullough and Allen. They're losing a few other starters as well like Hoover, and Reynolds. Then, they have a couple players who could leave early for the NFL if they wanted, and get picked up somewhere early, like Calhoun and Drummond. As of right now, they're definitely losing 6 starters. Seeing how Michigan state has had a great defense year in and year out, I am left with no reason thinking they wont be great next year as well. I would think we win this game 3/10 times. Definitively saying we take back the state is a bit unrealistic.
OSU, again, is an away game with a Mobile QB. Hoke vs. Meyer is 0-2. If this is a toss-up, you're using a weighted coin here. I imagine we win this game 3/10 times.

|2 years 34 weeks ago||Universally accepted||
Your reply doesn't really address what my post was about. We had 4 scholarship offensive linemen that were RS Sophomores or older. That number is insanely low. You need the players to play the game, and if you don't have the players, there isn't much you can do. It's rare underclassmen kill it in the trenches.
I think it's universally accepted this season was a disappointment. A lot of people were predicting an 8-10 win season with a big ten championship game. This team had a great game against ND, just like they had a great game against OSU. One was the second game of the season, one was the second to last. The offensive line woes were exposed after the ND game, and everyone knew how to beat us after that.
What I don't agree with is something NEEDS to be done at the coaching level. If Hoke fires Borges, I'll be happy. If Hoke fires Funk, I'll be happy. If he fires both, I'll be happy. If Hoke fires neither of them and we have a 7-5 season next year, I'll be a bit unhappy.
|2 years 34 weeks ago||Stats can be deceiving||
Stats can always be deceiving. Sometimes it makes sense to look at things without focusing solely on the stats... Disclaimer: I am neither pro nor anti Gorgeous Al
2013 OSU he had a great game plan, and came out guns blazing. He hung up 41 points on OSU. Did OSU shit the bed a little bit? Yes, but Borges' gameplan worked well. There were moments he showed why he's one of the highest paid OCs in the country.
I know this site has been redundant with the fire Borges mentality, peppering in some Borges Apologists here and there, but I feel quite a few of the posters here don't really form educated opinions on their own, they just regurgitate others' opinions. I love reading the same thing posted 100 times on a board post. Some examples:
OT: 2 RS Sr Tackles multi-year starters, 2 RS Fr, 2 Fr.
Counting Burzinsky and Glasgow as scholarship players.
Not Counting Burzinsky and Glasgow as scholarship players
Youth might be a bit of an excuse in this case. The trenches are where the game is won, and we have between 63-72% of our offensive line seeing the field for their first time this year.
Youth is not an excuse! Player development is key!
I can agree with that, but you can't expect players to make insane leaps and bounds only seeing the field for 3 months. Next year they will have had an entire off-season to correct their mistakes on the field from this year. If Funk and Borges don't show they have corrected the errors from this year, then something should be done. But with the hands they were dealt this year, I can't rationally say this staff needs extreme readjustments.

That's 11 bodies, which is enough to have a healthy 3.7 deep at those 3 positions. I'm most worried about Nose though.
I feel comfortable with Pipkins playing there, but who knows if he can come back from the injury that quickly. I feel comfortable with Henry playing there, but who is going to spell him? Ash/Hurst/Mone? Ash hasn't made too big of an impact yet, Mone is an incoming freshman, and Hurst hasn't seen the field much as a freshman. Makes me a bit nervous when looking at depth.

|2 years 41 weeks ago||Agreed, but..||
Getting one recruit may not be a program defining moment. An extreme talent at DE is great to have, but they're not going to be able to carry a team to victory by themselves.
But getting the #1 recruit in the nation can do a lot of good things for the perception of the program, team's perception to future recruits, and perception of the direction the program is headed.

They may not always be right. RR's second year my buddy was a GA on the team. Every week he would tell me they are starting Denard over Forcier. Never happened... but he still told me every week that was what was happening.
With that being said, I don't think Ace Williams has any sources period, nor does he knows shit about shit.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||Changes||
If Hoke grabs a new OL coach, I'll be happy. If Hoke grabs a new OC, I'll be happy. If Hoke doesn't replace either coach, I'll be a bit skeptical, but the results on the field next year will speak volumes to Hoke's decision. If next year our OL is so porous no OC would be able to succeed, I'll be a little upset then.
When I look at this team, Hoke's first full recruiting class are now sophomores. There are times I don't like youth being thrown around as an excuse, but let's just take a deep breath and stand back. Hoke had 3 weeks to finish the 2011 recruiting class: that is not fair. I'm hoping 2014 and 2015 have some brighter days. Hoke assembled some pretty good 2012 and 2013 recruiting classes, and hopefully it shows on the field next year when the team is filled with Hoke's juniors and sophomores.

I never said the players are receiving nothing in return for playing football. I believe I said a 2,000 dollar a semester stipend wouldn't be so bad for the athletes playing major revenue producing sports. I understand you're frustrated with participating in the Michigan Cycling Club, but Michigan football will take in more than 80 million dollars this year from big house ticket sales alone. A 2,000 dollar a semester stipend wouldn't even be 0.5% of the big house ticket sale revenue.
I included the food point having just read about Arian Foster complaining there wasn't food in his fridge, and he needed his coach to buy him tacos. That's a violation.
Another example would be if Devin Gardner wanted to workout with a 100 dollar an hour quarterback guru. If he worked with him for 40 hours, his yearly stipend is already gone.
|2 years 48 weeks ago||I'm all about||
bullet points 1 and 2.
3 I think has enough going on right now, I don't think it needs to be hammered further.
Bullet point 1 - Would something like 2,000 a semester really be so terrible to give to the major revenue producing athletes? If we're talking about 10,000 a year, that's a little silly, but a small stipend for groceries seems reasonable.
Let's look at a guy like Taylor Lewan. His diet requires something like 6000 calories a day.
Let's say he's taking in 2000 calories from protein, 2000 from carbs, and 2000 from fat. For convenience sake, let's say all the protein is from boneless skinless chicken breast: it's cheap, it's easy, it's healthy. That's 500 grams of protein - that's 5 pounds of chicken breasts every day. at 1.99 a pound, on sale if you're REAL lucky, that's 10 dollars a day just in chicken.
2,000 a semester would be 4,000 a year. Barely more than the 3,650 Taylor would be spending solely on chicken.
Bullet point 2 seems reasonable - and could potentially create jobs for an unemployed actuary like myself. Win win!

I tried to be polite. There's no reason for you to be a dick.
I understand you need both strength and technique to be a good lineman. I understand that. If you're trying to say being a good lineman is dependent on both physical prowess and technique, I can agree with you there. You're going to need to be a powerful guy, and you're going to need to know how to use that power, with great technique, to block someone.
Do you understand that being big and strong and having great technique aren't related? They are not dependent on each other. Therefore they are independent.
And Molk could bench press 370 pounds and squat 520 as a senior in high school. This is before he was ever in a college strength program. He has always been extremely powerful.
You can ask coaches, players, trainers, everyone involved in sports. Just because you're an athletic freak doesn't mean you have great technique.
|2 years 49 weeks ago||I didn't mean to offend you.||
Not trying to be snarky, just stating a fact: Physical prowess and technique are independent.
|2 years 49 weeks ago||..?||
Physicality is independent of technique. I may be a phenomenal technician, but I'm 6 ft 180 lbs. I'm not going to be able to block anyone on any line anywhere.
Molk had great technique, but he was also physically dominant. He hit 30+ reps at the combine if I remember correctly.

ESPN - NR Pro Style QB
Rivals is showing he has an offer from Harvard.
After watching his tape I can say that he is a dual threat quarterback. He has some nice touch on the ball, and he shows some decent accuracy with shorter passes. However, he doesn't have very good arm strength, and it shows on his mid-range passes' accuracy and lack of long-range passes. I think the longest pass I saw on his tape was 35 yards, and none of his shorter range passes have any zip on them. I like his ability to throw on the run. It looks like he's making some ill-advised passes when he's under pressure, but the DBs never seem to be able to make a play on it. Decent athleticism. Decent vision as a ball carrier.
Overall, he seems like a pretty decent prospect and should provide some good depth for Meyer.

Ribs - I might do an orange barbeque sauce. Orange zest, orange juice, orange marmelade, my barbeque sauce, reduce. I like to have different spice levels too.
First - your tongue gets hit by the cayenne pepper, and it notices the heat.
Then, it is overwhelemed by the unexpected hint of orange flavour.
But wait - the chilis are now taking over and you're back to the heat.
But wait, you have hit the ribs with a little orange glaze on top of your spice rub, and now it's back to a hint of orange.
Spice rub hits - back to spice.
I'm all about the depth of flavour.

Morris doesn't show the most consistency or the best accuracy. What good is throwing the ball 70 yards if it's not anywhere near our receivers?
I am skeptical if Morris is the long term answer, but I am hopeful. If he responds to coaching and can gets the timing down with his receivers the sky is the limit. But if he doesn't adjust well to the college game in a couple years, we're going to rely on Bellomy which I'm not comfortable with, or a player not on the team yet. I'm confident the coaches will figure it out.
|3 years 30 weeks ago||Mr. Everything?||
His tape looks alright, but I don't know if I would call him Mr. Everything. He is a RB/DB that can play some WR, and handles returns for his team. That is pretty common for high school athletes. (Not incredibly common to play CB/FS/SS, I commend him for that) If you throw in another position, like QB or LB, I think that's when we'd start calling him Mr. Everything.
I wouldn't be upset if we offered the kid a scholarship before signing day, but I also wouldn't be upset if we banked a scholarship. He doesn't look like he has the athletecism to hold more than a few mac offers, but he could always be a late bloomer.

Let's be real here - the recruits with higher rankings usually have those rankings because they have a higher probablity of being a star (pun) as opposed to the lower ranked recruits.
I find it funny to look at every years draft and see how many 2 and 3 stars were drafted as high as the 1st round, but then I look at the 5 stars and see that it's typical most (95%) 5 star recruit that made it through college ball will get drafted somewhere.
As opposed to 4 and 5 star players, 2 and 3 star players make up just as much or slightly more of the nfl draft. However there are so many more of them it's what we'd expect.

Devin looks like he throws a better ball than Denard. Denard is not a very accurate passer. Even his completions often look off target. With Devin, I really like the way he went through his reads, and if nothing was there took off running, something I wish Denard did more. On designed runs Denard is great, but when he thinks "pass" he doesn't run. I think Devin is and will be a much better passing quarterback.
With that said, Denard's legs are too much of a weapon, and he should definitely stay at qb this year ESPECIALLY with our shaky line play. If Devin put up numbers like that against Bama, I think everyone might be singing a different tune, but It's Minnesota.

|4 years 18 weeks ago||Agreed||
Part of being a TE is having to block. Miller was coming in as a WR. Could be he's not used to blocking DEs or LBs. (Purely speculative that the move is because of a less than stellar ability to block) Blocking 180 lbs corner backs is a different story, hopefully something he could excel at at WR.
Here's hoping it works out for him.
|4 years 18 weeks ago||Logic is flawed||
Just because another DT is 6'1" doesn't mean all 6'1" tackles are going to be awesome, it doesn't work that way. That's just like saying because Denard Robinson is 6' and Drew Brees is 6' they'll both have successful careers in the NFL as quarterbacks. Darren Sproles and Vincent Smith aren't destined to see the same sort of success in the NFL because they're both 5'6". Just because one undersized player made it, not all undersized players make it.
With that being said, I still think Martin is going to be fine because hes a beast.

I know the kid can still go blue, and I was not trying to infer RDT has any insider information on the matter. I hope once he has taken all his visits, and after naming all his new favorite schools, he'll have time to settle down and think with his cousin Su'a, and ultimately decide where is best for them. Hopefully it's Michigan, but even if it's not, I feel Mathis is really just a luxury get for us at this point. Su'a is more of a position of need, but I still feel interior DL and WR are where this coaching staff should be focusing.
|4 years 19 weeks ago||Your logic is flawed||
I can tell you what the weather is not going to be today. It's not going to snow, and be 20 degrees. Just because I can tell you what the weather wont be, does not mean I can all of the sudden tell you what the weather will be.
Similiarly in this case, just because RDT said Mathis isn't going to Michigan, doesn't mean RDT knows where Mathis is going.

He said assuming Shane is a 5*. Shane is in the 2013 class. Then he stated only other class higher was the USC 2012 class.

In 2007 USC had 6 5*'s, 10 4*'s, and 2 3*'s, which comes out to a 4.22 average star. (Highest I've seen so far on rivals.)
In 2006 Florida had a 3.89 average.
In 2005 USC had a 3.95 average.
In 2004 USC had a 4.05 average.
In 2002 FSU had a 4.09
More Recent history
In 2008 ND, USC, and OSU's classes were higher averages, at 3.96, 3.89 and 3.85 respectively.
In 2010, USC had a 4.2 average.
I could keep going, there are a ton more.

"It's not bad."
Absolutely, it's not bad, but it's not good. If we are extremely fortunate and don't suffer any devastating injuries on the OL this year or next year, we'll be smooth sailing, our starters are pretty good. But, the cupboards aren't stocked full.
Interested in seeing the 2nd team OL at the spring game to say the least.
|4 years 20 weeks ago||Kalis and Bryant||
could very well be better than Omameh and Mealer, but then the depth still comes into play. We have 4 freshmen OL coming in this year, and we're losing 3 5th year OL. To me, it doesn't matter if Kalis and Bryant come in and pwnzone. The depth is still a major concerned, and I don't know if this is just my opinion, but I will only be comfortable around 2014.
2012 we'll have 11 scholarship OL, 4 of which are true freshmen. Yikes
2013 we'll have a max of 13 scholarship OL, 5 of which are freshmen. I say a max, because it's possible Lewan doesn't return for his 5th year. Yikes
2014, barring any attrition, we'll have 11 scholarship OL who aren't true freshmen. That is when I start to feel comfortable.
Depth can be scary.

|4 years 22 weeks ago||Evaluation||
STRENGTHS:This kid's balance is top notch. He can be nudged and it doesn't affect him in the least bit. He can make decent, but not fantastic cuts. He's not going to be breaking anyone's ankles with what I've seen so far. His speed is above average. I did a quick google on what his track times are, and 2 years ago (his freshman year) he ran a 12 second 100m. To give a comparrison, Denard hit 10.28. Again, that was only his freshman year, he definitely could've grown since then, but I see a lot of DB's keeping up with him in his junior year highlights as well. Vision looks ok. Makes a lot of smart moves following blockers.
WEAKNESSES: His tackle breaking ability is not great. I have yet to see him churn through a weaker tackle. If he's wrapped up he's probably going down. He's not the biggest nor fastest running back.
OVERALL: With his skill set, my TTB ranking would be ~63. When he gets to whatever school he goes to, he'll work on his strength, and tackle breaking abilities with a college strength coach. I think he could be a pleasant surprise. I've seen a lot of tape of people ranked higher than him, and they don't look like they have as much upside.
With our offensive line recruits though, if that is taken into account, I give JoJo an 83. The holes our OL is going to be opening up will make any running back look like a superstar.
|4 years 22 weeks ago||Not tight enough?||
Problematic. We need the spiral tight enough to rip gloves, and the velocity strong enough to break bones. I want to see shane throw a ball so fast, with such a tight spiral, even if a linebacker gets in the way it'll just pass through his body, slowing down just enough for the receiver to catch it, and still rip his gloves.

Gardner is more familiar with Borges system by one spring practice. And you're right, Gardner could shine if left to drive the team for a while.
But, I don't necessarily think we'll be more balanced with DG at WR. DG does have great size, and he might even have great hands, but he doesn't have phenominal speed to be a game changer outside. Even if Bellomy beats him out at QB, i would rather keep DG at QB. If he was moved, next year we'll have DG and Bellomy at QB. The year after we'll have Bellomy, and true freshman Morris. 2 deep at QB with one being a freshman scares me a bit.
