6 weeks 4 days ago Wait a minute

As soon as I believe you are my attourney, giving me legal advice, there is power of attourney and you can't go to the police with what I've told you.  With that being said, I need some help, Saul.  My buddy Jesse and I have been working for this man named Gustavo, but I have a feeling he's going to kill me after my next few cooks.  We make crystal meth for him under a laundromat.  What should I do?  I have enough money to retire, but I feel he will be able to find me and my family if we leave.

I feel this story isn't going to be one we're forgetting for a while.

19 weeks 5 days ago I agree with you

But accuracy is hard to coach.  See - Denard Robinson

19 weeks 5 days ago Possible Flaws

Morris doesn't show the most consistency or the best accuracy.  What good is throwing the ball 70 yards if it's not anywhere near our receivers?

I am skeptical if Morris is the long term answer, but I am hopeful.  If he responds to coaching and can gets the timing down with his receivers the sky is the limit.  But if he doesn't adjust well to the college game in a couple years, we're going to rely on Bellomy which I'm not comfortable with, or a player not on the team yet.  I'm confident the coaches will figure it out.

20 weeks 16 hours ago Mr. Everything?

His tape looks alright, but I don't know if I would call him Mr. Everything.  He is a RB/DB that can play some WR, and handles returns for his team.  That is pretty common for high school athletes.  (Not incredibly common to play CB/FS/SS, I commend him for that)  If you throw in another position, like QB or LB, I think that's when we'd start calling him Mr. Everything.

I wouldn't be upset if we offered the kid a scholarship before signing day, but I also wouldn't be upset if we banked a scholarship.  He doesn't look like he has the athletecism to hold more than a few mac offers, but he could always be a late bloomer.

25 weeks 5 days ago YOU THOUGHT WRONG!

INFINITE FAITH IN HOKE AND BORGES

26 weeks 1 day ago Or even usually?

Let's be real here - the recruits with higher rankings usually have those rankings because they have a higher probablity of being a star (pun) as opposed to the lower ranked recruits.

I find it funny to look at every years draft and see how many 2 and 3 stars were drafted as high as the 1st round, but then I look at the 5 stars and see that it's typical most (95%) 5 star recruit that made it through college ball will get drafted somewhere.

As opposed to 4 and 5 star players, 2 and 3 star players make up just as much or slightly more of the nfl draft.  However there are so many more of them it's what we'd expect.

A huge play?  He stole the ball and dunked it.  I agree with the excessive jawing, but I know that wont be a problem when he gets on campus.  If any player on our team does something like that I think Hoke would serve them up some humble pie.

32 weeks 1 day ago See where you're coming from but...

Devin looks like he throws a better ball than Denard. Denard is not a very accurate passer. Even his completions often look off target. With Devin, I really like the way he went through his reads, and if nothing was there took off running, something I wish Denard did more. On designed runs Denard is great, but when he thinks "pass" he doesn't run. I think Devin is and will be a much better passing quarterback.

With that said, Denard's legs are too much of a weapon, and he should definitely stay at qb this year ESPECIALLY with our shaky line play. If Devin put up numbers like that against Bama, I think everyone might be singing a different tune, but It's Minnesota.

6'1" is too short to play DE?  Brandon Graham would like to share a word with you.

51 weeks 6 days ago Stars are overrated

There were 4 5-stars and 4 2-stars in the first round of the last NFL draft, and ~50 other 2 stars scattered throughout the rest of the draft.  Stars mean the kid is probably a good athlete AND has gotten exposure.  I have faith this coaching staff knows what they want.

1 year 7 weeks ago No offense intended to Hart

But Hart ran behind Jake Long for 4 years, was pretty undersized and doesn't have any speed.  Put up great numbers at Michigan, but I don't know if anyone was expecting him to be great, or even good in the NFL.

1 year 7 weeks ago Agreed

Part of being a TE is having to block.  Miller was coming in as a WR.  Could be he's not used to blocking DEs or LBs.  (Purely speculative that the move is because of a less than stellar ability to block)  Blocking 180 lbs corner backs is a different story, hopefully something he could excel at at WR.

Here's hoping it works out for him.

1 year 7 weeks ago Logic is flawed

Just because another DT is 6'1" doesn't mean all 6'1" tackles are going to be awesome, it doesn't work that way.  That's just like saying because Denard Robinson is 6' and Drew Brees is 6' they'll both have successful careers in the NFL as quarterbacks.  Darren Sproles and Vincent Smith aren't destined to see the same sort of success in the NFL because they're both 5'6".  Just because one undersized player made it, not all undersized players make it.

With that being said, I still think Martin is going to be fine because hes a beast.

1 year 8 weeks ago Seeing TD

Seeing 3 TDS doesn't make me think of a fullback getting an occasional carry a la The Fridge.  It makes me think of Shaun Rogers, snagging pick sixes.

1 year 8 weeks ago With a statement as bold as

With a statement as bold as "I'll be having sex with each and every one of their sisters", it could not be from a physical attraction standpoint, so seeing them wouldn't matter..  It could be just to tell them he had sex with their sisters.  It could be to knowingly disrespect them.  It could be to show dominance over them, by banging their sister, almost warranting they watch their mothers' backs next.

1 year 9 weeks ago A Brace you say?

At least it's not a cast.

1 year 9 weeks ago Better logic.

I know the kid can still go blue, and I was not trying to infer RDT has any insider information on the matter.  I hope once he has taken all his visits, and after naming all his new favorite schools, he'll have time to settle down and think with his cousin Su'a, and ultimately decide where is best for them.  Hopefully it's Michigan, but even if it's not, I feel Mathis is really just a luxury get for us at this point.  Su'a is more of a position of need, but I still feel interior DL and WR are where this coaching staff should be focusing.

1 year 9 weeks ago Your logic is flawed

I can tell you what the weather is not going to be today.  It's not going to snow, and be 20 degrees.  Just because I can tell you what the weather wont be, does not mean I can all of the sudden tell you what the weather will be.

Similiarly in this case, just because RDT said Mathis isn't going to Michigan, doesn't mean RDT knows where Mathis is going.

1 year 9 weeks ago Are you sure?

He said assuming Shane is a 5*.  Shane is in the 2013 class.  Then he stated only other class higher was the USC 2012 class.

1 year 9 weeks ago Your facts sir, are easily checked

In 2007 USC had 6 5*'s, 10 4*'s, and 2 3*'s, which comes out to a 4.22 average star.  (Highest I've seen so far on rivals.)

In 2006 Florida had a 3.89 average.

In 2005 USC had a 3.95 average.

In 2004 USC had a 4.05 average.

In 2002 FSU had a 4.09

More Recent history

In 2008 ND, USC, and OSU's classes were higher averages, at 3.96, 3.89 and 3.85 respectively.

In 2010, USC had a 4.2 average.

I could keep going, there are a ton more.

1 year 10 weeks ago Yeah

"It's not bad."

Absolutely, it's not bad, but it's not good.  If we are extremely fortunate and don't suffer any devastating injuries on the OL this year or next year, we'll be smooth sailing, our starters are pretty good.  But, the cupboards aren't stocked full.

Interested in seeing the 2nd team OL at the spring game to say the least.

1 year 10 weeks ago Kalis and Bryant

could very well be better than Omameh and Mealer, but then the depth still comes into play.  We have 4 freshmen OL coming in this year, and we're losing 3 5th year OL.  To me, it doesn't matter if Kalis and Bryant come in and pwnzone.  The depth is still a major concerned, and I don't know if this is just my opinion, but I will only be comfortable around 2014.

2012 we'll have 11 scholarship OL, 4 of which are true freshmen.  Yikes

2013 we'll have a max of 13 scholarship OL, 5 of which are freshmen.  I say a max, because it's possible Lewan doesn't return for his 5th year.  Yikes

2014, barring any attrition, we'll have 11 scholarship OL who aren't true freshmen.  That is when I start to feel comfortable.

Depth can be scary.

1 year 10 weeks ago more debate on an

I noticed some talk about "an."  If you look at this espn article, close to the bottom,

"The younger Sills, who is an seventh-grader at Red Lion Christian Academy in Bear, Del., has been training with Clarkson for three years."

Now, I ain't no english major, and I dunt claim to be such, but I reckon that there "an" article be out of place.  I reckon an a done be the better choice.

“Tell you the truth, I just liked wearing the winged helmet. I just liked being a Michigan Wolverine. It didn’t matter where I was at.”

1 year 11 weeks ago Evaluation

STRENGTHS:This kid's balance is top notch.  He can be nudged and it doesn't affect him in the least bit.  He can make decent, but not fantastic cuts.  He's not going to be breaking anyone's ankles with what I've seen so far.  His speed is above average.  I did a quick google on what his track times are, and 2 years ago (his freshman year) he ran a 12 second 100m.  To give a comparrison, Denard hit 10.28.  Again, that was only his freshman year, he definitely could've grown since then, but I see a lot of DB's keeping up with him in his junior year highlights as well.  Vision looks ok.  Makes a lot of smart moves following blockers.

WEAKNESSES:  His tackle breaking ability is not great.  I have yet to see him churn through a weaker tackle.  If he's wrapped up he's probably going down.  He's not the biggest nor fastest running back.

OVERALL:  With his skill set, my TTB ranking would be ~63.  When he gets to whatever school he goes to, he'll work on his strength, and tackle breaking abilities with a college strength coach.  I think he could be a pleasant surprise.  I've seen a lot of tape of people ranked higher than him, and they don't look like they have as much upside.

With our offensive line recruits though, if that is taken into account, I give JoJo an 83.  The holes our OL is going to be opening up will make any running back look like a superstar.

1 year 12 weeks ago Not tight enough?

Problematic.  We need the spiral tight enough to rip gloves, and the velocity strong enough to break bones.  I want to see shane throw a ball so fast, with such a tight spiral, even if a linebacker gets in the way it'll just pass through his body, slowing down just enough for the receiver to catch it, and still rip his gloves.

Cuba Gooding Jr. from Radio?  Completely agree with you.

1 year 12 weeks ago Oberon, supa beer numba 1!

I feel so girly when I order oberon at a bar, because they bring it with the slice of orange, and I had a chick make fun of me for drinking it once.  It could have also been because I squeezed the juice in, dropped in the orange, and then when the beer was done I had to fish it out to get whatever oberon the orange may have absorbed.  Or maybe it could've been because of the apple-tinis before the oberon.

Either way, oberon is delicious.

1 year 13 weeks ago Agreed

Gardner is more familiar with Borges system by one spring practice.  And you're right, Gardner could shine if left to drive the team for a while.

But, I don't necessarily think we'll be more balanced with DG at WR.  DG does have great size, and he might even have great hands, but he doesn't have phenominal speed to be a game changer outside.  Even if Bellomy beats him out at QB, i would rather keep DG at QB.  If he was moved, next year we'll have DG and Bellomy at QB. The year after we'll have Bellomy, and true freshman Morris.  2 deep at QB with one being a freshman scares me a bit.

1 year 13 weeks ago I agree with you, and I

I agree with you, and I understand.  It's just like when you bring out a 5 WR set, you're probably passing the ball.  But I like the idea of a single running back, because it takes away from any potential predictability.

It's just like having Denard as your QB for a 5 wide set.  Takes away from the predictability of the pass, because Denard can break it loose if there's any hesitiation.

1 year 13 weeks ago I would really like a 3rd

I would really like a 3rd running back in this class, Isaac, but right now I don't feel we have that luxury.  We need interior d linemen and wide receivers.  With only ~ 19 left in the class without any attrition (which I know there's always some) I really feel our focus should be elsewhere.

1 year 13 weeks ago If I were to comment

I would say the poster was trying to say he's not a fan of all the "situational backs."  Vincent smith is a receiving 3rd down back, it seems Shallman is going to be a bruising short yardage type of back, etc.  Within our stable, it seems like we could go further and start having ridiculous situational backs, like a specific 2nd and 7 back.  I'm not a real big fan of situational backs solely because that makes your offense more predictable.

1 year 15 weeks ago That leaves me with confidence....

Morgan, Ryan, RJS, Bolden, Ringer, Ross, Jones, Bell, Antonio Poole, Cam  Gordon, and the 2013 freshmen.  That's 10 already on the roster.  If we pull in 4 more this recruiting class, that's 14 on the roster for 2013.  That seems a little on the high side for me for 3 positions.  If we had 4.66 deep at every position, we'd need a scholarship limit of over 100, and that's not including kickers, punters, or longsnappers.

In 2013, the 2012 freshmen will be 2013 sophomores.  I feel very comfortable with Ryan/Gordon, Bolden/RJS, Morgon/Ross as the two deep.

1 year 16 weeks ago Different Game

College and High school are two different games my brother.  I was really excited about Justin Turner because I thought with his side and speed, he could've been something special, but that didn't turn out as I had hoped.

Don't get me wrong, if they ranked Blake Countess lower than Kendal Fuller, them being from the same schools, I think Kendall Fuller is going to be a BEAST.  Or maybe they're ranking him so high because they saw how Blake Countess performed, and they were previously underestimating that school.

With that being said, I think I can speak for everyone in saying Magnus' evaluations are very much appreciated.

Edit: This was supposed to be in reply to the first poster, but I messed up because I'm a noob.  And, rivals says he reminds them of Charles Woodson.  Blake Countess is from his school as well.  I want this guy.

1 year 16 weeks ago Top 10?  Cutler no doubt has

Top 10?  Cutler no doubt has the TALENT to be top 10, but he is not a great QB.  Off the top of my head I can name 10 better.

Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Stafford, Ryan, Manning (Eli), Roethlisberger, Romo, Rivers, and Flacco are all better quarterbacks.  That's not including a questionable Vick, or Peyton Manning, because of the possibility of him not coming back.  One might even throw Alex Smith into the discussion.

I would love to see what Henne could do in Cutler's situation, or just in a new setting in general.

Hoke whispers:  Tell him you thought of him because you're in the shitter.

Kyle:  No, I'm going to commit to Michigan.  I thought of you because I'm in the shitter.

(Kyle and Hoke try to contain their chuckles)

Dantonio:  Is that coach Hoke in the background?

(Hoke whispers to Kyle, laughing)  Say no! Say no!

Kyle:  No, that's just someone outside the stall door.  Totally unrelated.

(Dantonio takes one of his assistant's phones and calls Hoke.  Hoke's distinguishable ring tone, Xplosive by Dre, plays loudly)

Dantonio:  I can hear Hoke's ring tone!  Damnit Hoke!  Why do you have to keep doing this to me?  Stop with the crank calls!

Hoke:  Hang up!  Hang up!

Hoke and Kyle burst into laughter.

1 year 17 weeks ago 5-6 wins?

More like, 3-4!  HAHA!!!

In all seriousness tough, I actually thought they were going to win 7-8 games last year.  Not because I'm an MSU hater, but because I looked at Dantonios coaching record.  In his first few years at MSU, any game decided by a score, he came up with the short straw more often than not (6-12).  2 years ago, he only had 3 games within a touchdown, won all of them.  Last year, he had 5 games within a touchdown, and the only one lost was the Big10 Championship game.  I thought he could possibly revert back to his first few years at MSU, but that hasn't been happening.  Next year I see a ceiling of 10, with a floor of 5 if they can't transititon well to a new QB, and their DL gets less pressure without potential 1st round draft pick Worthy, and of course, Dantonio loses the close ones.

1 year 17 weeks ago Every man has an assignment

They were learning a brand new scheme, and I'm sure Mattison had it as simple as it could be.  That being said, everybody would be used to their one assignment, and not prepared to hit a curveball like a TE switching sides.  The defense would then change so that everyone could execute the scheme they'd learned, with all of the same assignments.  You don't want to think too much, you want to react.  When you have to think about a change of responsibilites, you're not going to execute as well if you're mind is cleared.

With another year in the system, hopefully everyone will understand their assignments for the given play, and hopefully any curveballs thrown their way, like a TE switching sides, WR's motioning around, a RB moving to the slot, a TE motioning to H-back.  Hopefully, the understanding of the scheme takes over, and they don't have to think about their new assignment, they already know and can execute.

1 year 17 weeks ago I like what you did with the cars

For me, I think of Brady Hoke as a '89 Ford Taurus SHO, with an aftermarket supercharger.

The internals on the yamaha engine are all overengineered to the point where a supercharger wouldn't harm anything.  It's a 4 door family sedan, with a 7000 rpm redline.  Upon first glance, you might look away.  But if you try to hammer down vs a supercharged SHO, you will lose, and you'll never look at it the same again.

HOWEVA!  I didn't like what you did with Bielema and Dantonio being scared.  If some sleezy BRO comes up to me at a party, and shits in my drink, I'm going to say something.  Not because I'm scared of him, but because that's a shitty (pun) thing to do.  Urban Meyer is that sleezy bro, and he took a big dump in Bielema and Dantonios drinks.  He even tried to shit in Hokes drink, but little did he know, Kalis popped out and pancaked him, and Corso hopped out from behind the curtain yelling NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND.

1 year 17 weeks ago Pretty trim

I try to hit the gym as much as the next guy, and I'm at about 6'1 185.  This dude has 2.5 inches on me and 25 pounds off me: that's pretty trim.  Not just one sandwhich is needed, but an extra italian nightclub from Jimmy Johns (1000 calories) every other day.  That should put on about a pound a week.  By the time he's a redshirt freshman, he'll be 240 pounds, which is fine!

But, if we want him gaining good weight, I'm sure our strength and conditioning staff can do it up.

Looking at the last 5 threads I posted on, I'm really longing for spring practice news where we heard how Wilson Bolden and Ringer are receiving great hype, BWC is emerging as the beast we know him to be, and several other names are receiving great hype a la Jake Ryan last year.

1 year 17 weeks ago The ole Derrick Jeter special

If she was banging someone who banged out often, like Jeter, who gave herpes to my girl Jessica Alba, I might be worried.  But I remember reading a story a year back about Sanchez banging out a 17 year old, and she was posting pictures of his messy apartment up on her twitter?

I'm sorry, but isn't Sanchez a relatively attractive rich young man living in New York?  He's supposed to be able to do better than a 17 year old.  (Like Kate Upton)  The only reason I can think of is that he's sexually inexperienced, and feel more comfortable with younger girls.  And if that's the case, I wouldn't worry about Herpes too much.

To answer the post's question, I was googling information on Michigan recruits and mgoblog came up.

1 year 17 weeks ago Oh really?

1 year 18 weeks ago There you go, just calling

There you go, just calling them Sparty without even thinking about it!  I'll try my best to define sparty now.  Sparty is difficult to define, but I know when I see one.  They have a 'bro' mentality with a napolean-esque complex, feeling the need to build themselves up by any means necessary.  I remember high school, when kids started getting accepted to college, and there'd be the "spartan fan" who got into michigan, and ended up in ann arbor the next year.  They'd get razzed by their friends, "Why would you want to go to that liberal piece of shit school?!  Come Sparty in East Lansing!"  Sparty has every affiliation with that school, because who else would want to be a fan of Michigan State?  Doesn't matter what the argument is, they'll throw something out to make sure you know MSU reigns supreme.  "Yeah!  That's right, little sister!  4 years in a row whoooooo!!!!"  (Takes sip from natty light) "We historically own your ass!!".  Few sips later,  "I hate people saying we couldn't have beat Ohio State last year, did you see us reck them this year in the shoe?!  Whooooo!!!!!"  (Continued sip from natty light).  Like I said, Sparty is difficult to define, but I know one when I see one.

What a fantastic article, with no spelling errors.  (Just kidding, I found at least one)

Really though, I remember Rich Rod's first year, I was a student walking to a party with my roommate and our girlfriends, on the sidewalk the night before the U of M MSU game.  When all of the sudden, a group of 2 chicks and 5 bros, all rocking spartan gear, start yelling go green, go white, across the street.  Of course, being any reasonable michigan student on a friday night, you'll yell back, Go blue!  The spartan bros did not appreciate that, and took it upon themselves to cross the street, get in my face, and push me, repeating the words, Go Green!

That has been, and I think will always be my fondest memories of sparty.  Sure, there are some good spartan fans.  Some of my best friends went to MSU.  But, every experience I've ever had with sparty in public has been less than desireable.

I know, cool story, bro.

Respect for Dantonio?

I knew Dantonio was going to be a problem the moment he responded to Hart's little brother comment.  Buddy, you're a 50 year old man, talking back to a 22 year old student athlete.  Why don't you put on your big boy pants and understand you're an adult.

I'll always give credit where credit is due, and he's a decent coach.  He had a couple balls bounce his way a couple years back, and last year he did a pretty darn good job coaching that team, no lie.  As a coach, he does pretty well for himself.

But as a person?  Summer's Eve could offer him a contract to make him the posterboy for their douches, because Dantonio is a grade A douche.  I can not respect that man for how he conducts his business.

Saban, Pete Carroll, and Urban Meyer fall into the same category.  Amazing coaches, but I would never respect those snakes in the grass for how they conduct their business.

Pete Carroll reminds me a little bit of Dantonio, in the sense that they're hypocritical children.  Quick Ex:  Dantonio says it's important to build the program recruiting instate.  As soon as we start beating him, he claims to recruit nationally.  Ex:  Carroll used to run up the score on everybody when he was at USC.  Harbaugh is beating him by 4 touchdowns and goes for 2.  Carroll comes up to him after the game, "What's your deal?"  To which Harbaugh responded, "What's your deal?"

I respect Brady Hoke for how he conducts his business.

Maybe he lists his high school because it's the last school he graduated from?

Or maybe, Braylon Edwards was his idol while at Michigan, and he lists his high school to be different, like when Edwards would say, "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan"

I don't approve of him not saying Michigan.  Let's get him on the board to explain himself.

1 year 19 weeks ago If I was coaching?

If I was a coach at Michigan, and was trying to negatively recruit, I'd just compare everything the one school has to Michigan, doesn't matter what school.  I wouldn't make it real negative, just more positive about Michigan.

Oh, you think OSU has good academics?  That's nice to hear!  Ours are better.

You enjoy Notre Dame's rich history?  That's cool!  Most wins highest win percentage here...

Oh you like the party atmosphere State has to offer?  Back in 97 when we won the national championship, Michigan was ranked top 10 party schools in the nation, and Ann Arbor is consistently rated one of the best cities for singles < age 29 to live.

You like Meyer's coaching accolades?  Hoke has won conference coach of the year in 3 of the past 4 years he's been coaching.  Greg Mattison?  Gorgeous Al Borges?  Done deal.

.... I might not keep it as positive for OSU all the time though

You think OSU has some coaching stability with Meyer?  You saw what happened at Florida.  He jumepd ship as soon as his team started to waiver, despite having phenominal recruiting classes, every year.  Said he wanted to spend more time with his family, and then became an analyst for CBS where he traveled to a different game every week, while his team went 6-6.  Oh, but he's a class act.

What?  Meyer told you he was recruiting ONLY you for quarterback?  There's another athlete in the class, his name is Tim Tebow, he's not being recruited as a linebacker.  Meyer is lying, here is Tebow's number.

Now I heard you're a big Michigan fan!  Wait...... what?  You've actually been an OSU fan your whole life, and Meyer is telling you to say you're a Michigan fan so the rest of the recruiting world will think Meyer is turning Michigan fans into OSU recruits, and hopefully everyone else will follow suit?!  That seems rather classless, don't you think?  Meyer is such a classy individual!

OSU is going to be a great place for you to develop as a football player AND a person?  Meyer had 6+arrests/year while he was coaching at Florida.  He is a model disciplinarian, and I'm sure you're going to be a better person for having attended OSU.  (But there's so much sarcasm in my voice, the recruit will know I'm being sarcastic)

A buddy of mine on the team during the Barwis era, a WR, said Barwis didn't have him bench.  He would only have them incline, which I thought was interesting, and a more effective motion for the WR's to tailor their strength to for shedding blocks.

If BWC is inclining 370, I'll tip my hat to him.  I could be wrong, but I remember him coming into U of M being able to hit 315 for reps, which would show not too much improvement from freshman year to now.

That video of Martin training with Barwis shows him hitting 365 for reps and a 4 second negative.

In conclusion, I hope Campbell gets big enough to shed every block, every down, and pick up at least 3 sacks/game.

Center:  I'm trying to stay confident regarding Jack Miller.  He's going to be a redshirt freshman next year.  After seeing him around campus, I can tell he needs to put on a little more weight, but he could come in and be great next year.  Khoury could do well if he and Denard get their chemistry right.

QB:  I'm not too worried.  We only will have 3 on the roster the next two years.  But how often do two starting quarterbacks go down, and you have to play the 3rd stringer?  (Besides the colts?)

Running Back:  After Fitz I'm not super confident about the backs as well.  But then I guess it's a good thing we have Fitz back next year.  Running back is a position a freshman can come in and make an impact right away, so hopefully we pick one up in 2013.

Cornerback is a bigger concern for me than it is for you I feel.  We have, what I feel is an elite corner in Countess.  After him, I feel Avery is our number 2, and Floyd is 3rd, just my opinion.  I haven't seen Richardson play a down in college yet, so the verdict is out on him.  But again, that's another position I feel a freshman can come in and make an impact, so hopefully we snag an elite one in 2013, or Richardson lights it up.

1 year 20 weeks ago A lot of recruits

I don't know if we'll have that many spots.  If we sign a full class this year, we only have 16 graduating next year, and this hypothetical class is 23 (With question marks, 25).

I like where your head is at.  But with this 2012 class, I'm really hoping for no attrition.

I too believe it sucks ass when I see a cute girl somewhere and can't talk to her.  Do you feel I am not a class act?

That tweet doesn't seem outrageous at all, and I'm pretty sure the majority of our fanbase would have still wanted him.

1 year 20 weeks ago Not so fast my friend

They moved Miller from WR to TE because he wasn't the fastest WR.  Now, after having him throw on 20+ pounds, I don't think moving him back to WR would be the best move.

I think our WR depth will be fine next year, but 2013 we need to pull a couple blue chip prospects.

Tree, Gallon, Dileo, Jackson, Robinson, with Darboh and Chesson coming in.  We should be alright.  Jump Balls?  Chesson and Jackson I hope.

I don't question anything Hoke and Co. do anymore, I have faith.

No lie, couple months ago I did throw a few questions out, especially regarding interior DL depth.  But, if Hoke and Co. think Q, BWC, Wilkins, Ash, and PeeWee can handle the situation, then I wont question it.

(Perhaps a move to a 3-4 coming in a couple years with all the LB recruiting?)  Is a question I wont ask, because Hoke and Co. know better than I do.

1 year 20 weeks ago I don't think so

1 year 20 weeks ago Future is bright on Palo Alto?

Just my two cents, but I think Luck will be a detrimental loss to their team, and they don't have Harbaugh.

When Jim Caldwell stepped in at Indianapolis, he had Peyton for two years.  Their win loss went from 14-2, to 10-6, to 2-14.

That 14-2 kind of reminds me of Stanford's season this year.  They have a different head coach, but still had a stellar quarterback, and they did well because of it.  But then, after Caldwell lost his stellar quarterback, his team flopped.  So, maybe the success of their team was really on their quarterback more than the coach.

Harbaugh steps in to a 6-10 team, takes them to 13-3 and makes it to the NFC championship game, with essentially the SAME TEAM.  Now, that SAME TEAM had 1 pro bowler during their 6-10 season, but in their 13-3 season, they had 9 pro bowlers.  Is it that those players got so much better during an NFL off season that now they're pro bowlers?  No.  You make the pro bowl based off the season you have.  So, those 10 all conference players returning doesn't mean a ton to me.  Without Harbaugh and Luck, I don't see Stanford being great.

Before I start to ramble, the point I'm trying to get at is head coaches and star quarterbacks matter.  Who knows, maybe David Shaw is going to be a phenominal coach, and as soon as I see it I'll eat my words, but I don't know how bright the future in Palo Alto is.

Either way, best of luck to Garnett.

1 year 21 weeks ago Missed FG?

I am going to have to disagree.

Williams gave up 7 points off his first turnover, and then 3 points off his second turn over, ultimately losing them the game.  You take him out of the equation, 49ers won.

The Ravens team could have done something to score a touchdown, or score more points earlier, or hold off the pats.  But, you don't blame one person for one missed shot, it will happen, and it wouldn't have won them the game.  Sure, at the end of the game, the Ravens COULD have tied it up with a field goal, and then went on to POSSIBLY win in overtime, but Williams straight up lost the 49ers the game by allowing the giants to go to overtime in the first place, and then giving them the field position in OT to win.

For the people who don't know, nor can use the internet for anything besides porn, and I'm NOT singling out any 15 or 16 year olds in particular, they will have to wait for a question they know.  But, as soon as you get 2 trivia questions wrong, you are locked out for 2 weeks before you can try again, problem solved.

1 year 21 weeks ago My best guess

Hoke tells all the recruits the best eleven will see the field, and there's no doubt when a freshman comes in, and works hard, they can work their way onto the field to be one of the eleven.  Look at Countess, Morgan, Clark, and Beyer from last year, just to name a few.  So, Reeves could believe he's going to see the field because he knows he's going to come in and work hard.

1 year 28 weeks ago ... was it a shot at Barwis or pointing something out?

Last year we started out 5-0 before finishing the season 2 - 6.  Second half of the season we weren't playing as well as the first half of the season.  Could that be due to the team wearing down over the course of the season due to poor conditioning?

This year after starting 5-0, we finished 5-2.  That to me seems like a better conditioned team to me.

Last year, after game 5 we outscored our opponents by 5 points in the second half of games.  This year, after game 5, we outscored our oppnents by 56 in the second half of games.  The whole year, we outscored opponents in the second half by 121.  Last year, we needed to outscore our opponents because we were behind in a lot of those games, and we ended up +5.  This year, we were winning a lot of those games, and we ended up +56.

No shots intended for Barwis, it seems like this team was better prepared and better conditioned.

If I wanted to take a shot at Barwis, I'd say something like, my friend Ricardo Miller (#80) told me Barwis didn't have them doing any flat bench press, and I think that's stupid.

1 year 29 weeks ago Agree kind of

I agree, kind of.  He was splitting carries with Smith and really had to emerge as the #1 tailback.  That 50 yarder vs bowling green (I think it was a 60 yarder?  But I could be wrong) he was caught from behind, where this year I don't feel that would have happened.

And who knows.... maybe Gibbons would've made his next 9 kicks last year and had been 10/14 too!

1 year 30 weeks ago BCS + Playoffs

Why can't we have playoffs AND a bcs?!

BCS pros - provides a lot of revenue during bowl season.  Tons of bowl games = tons of cash!  Teams like houston aren't playing for the national championship.

BCS cons - potentially Miami, LSU, and U of M are all undefeated.  Who gets left out for the national championship?

Playoff pros - we get to definitively decide who is number 1

Playoff cons - we wouldn't get bowl season, and it would take up too much of the athletes time during december - january.

I would propose to keep the BCS, and have an 8 team playoff.  That way we could have the definitive champion, and still keep bowl season.

"8 team playoff, how would that work?!"

There would be the championship game weekend, where we are left with our champions of the B1G, ACC, SEC, Pac12, Big12, and big East (althought let's be honest, the big east doesn't deserve a bid most years) and then we could have two at large bids with teams who are either undefeated in terrible conferences (Houston, usually Boise, etc.)  or an at large bid (Like Alabama this year).  Then we're left with 8 teams, that would only take 3 rounds to decide a winner.

1 year 30 weeks ago Dirtbags?

You can never be too sure about these kinds of things, but this one feels a little bit fishy.  It comes out right after the PSU case came out?

Devil'sAdvocate:  Well maybe this finally gave him the courage to stand up for himself now!

Noooo no no, he accused Fine of mollesting him back in 2003.  All the witnesses he said would support him all denied any wrongdoing on Fine's part, and Syracuse's head coach has said this is the product of thousands of lies, or something to that effect.

Devil'sAdvocate:  But, now there is another coming forward at Syracuse about the molestations.  Surely it can be no coincidence!!

The other one coming forwardo is related to the first one....  He could just be supporting his brother-in-law by saying these things.

I agree with your overall sentiment, but I don't know if I'd say dirtbags.  They seem like crazies.  I saw the same partial interview (on ESPN?) and the first guy couldn't keep his eyes straight for more than a second.  He looked like a recovering drug addict.  I don't think that's a response to a sexual assault, dude looks crazy.  Second guy, the step brother, seemed a little more on the dirtbaggy side.

I definitely want to hear the results of this investigation, because I don't think Fine has sexually abused those guys.

1 year 32 weeks ago Lou Holtz

Just because they lost to Minn doesn't mean this is a cakewalk for us.... or does it?

USC beat Minn by 2 points, losing to Stanford in triple overtime.

So, if Lou Holtz logic applies, we beat Minnesota by 58, who lost to USC by 2.  USC trounced ND by 14, who beat pitt by 3 and Iowa beat Pitt by 4.  If Lou Holtz' calculations are correct, we should beat Iowa by 69 points.  (58 - 2 + 14 +3 - 4)

In all seriousness, I think this is one of the closer games we have this year.  If Denard shows up in the passing game we'll blow them out of the water, but if their defense is strong, I think we win 27-23.

Another thing ot worry about, our OL depth this week in particular.  Barnum and Lewan aren't 100%.

1 year 32 weeks ago 5 more... no?

Like everyone said about, 25 is the limit, with an additional 3 could be early enrollees.

My question would then be, what if we take 28 this year, the fullest a class can be.  HYPOTHETICALLY, if next year we had room to take 28 kids in the 85 scholarship cap, would we be able to?  Would early enrolling put our scholarship numbers the year before at 31?  Or would we only be able to take 25?

Would we be able to take 28 if 3 members of the 2012 class leave the program during the year?

1 year 32 weeks ago Visit is the first step

So, Shaq Thompson is taking a visit, and Greg Matteson is one of the best recruiters nationally.  I like our chances.

Jordan Payton is deciding soon, Yuri Wright has us in his top two, Stefon Diggs just named us in his top 5, and we're in the running for another elite lineman.

If Payton wanted a fab 5 to commit to Michigan with, the above scenario sounds pretty good to round out the class to me.

                                   ..... practices.

1 year 35 weeks ago Exactly!

It may be a bummer of a post, but it most certainly needs to be said.  We're losing RVB, MM, and Heininger.  That's 75% of our starting line.  If we're replacing them with people down the depth chart, and we're worried about our starters, that's what makes me worried about next year a lot.

Granted, the only reason I think Heininger is starting over BWC is because I feel Hoke is trying to send a message to his players, "if your practice your hardest, you will earn a starting spot", we're still losing valuable depth.

Side Note: makes me so happy with how our recruiting is going this year.  To me, our trenches seem like they are our weakest points right now in terms of talent and depth.  5 OL and 6 DL in the 2012 recruiting class.  Hoke will correct the problems, we just need a year or two more.

1 year 35 weeks ago Agree and Disagree

I agree with you, it's not like our D line is getting such crazy penetration this year that next year we are doomed without them.  But at the same time, I don't feel comfortable with our D line next year at all.

Maybe it's because Mattison doens't really like running a 4-3 under?  Maybe he feels much more comfortable with a 3-4 and that switch is coming.  3 Linemen are supposed to eat up the blocks and leave room for the outside linebackers to turn into quarterback seeking missiles.

Past 2 years, true DTs recruited looks like it'll stay with just Pipkins.  (I'm still hopping for Shittu, but we'll see)

Past 2 years, linebackers recruited are at 9, with us losing Kellen Jones, and Frank Clark kind of being a DE-LB hybrid.

This leaves us with 7 linebackers, 1 DT.  Seems like a switch to a 3-4 to me.

"But John, what about all the DE's we have, some of them are probably going to turn into tackles!"

They very well could, we have 5 recruited this year and 3 recruited last year.  However, a ton of players would be great for a 3-4 OLB, like Beyer, Clark, or Ojemudia.

1 year 35 weeks ago Isn't it obvious?

Tom Pomarico

On our only punt of the game, Tom Pomarico pancakes a defender after the snap, runs down and strips the ball from whoever is returning the punt, and returns it for a touchdown.

But, he starts crip walking into the endzone from 5 yards out, and the ref's call excessive celebration, and we need to take it back to the 5 yard line.

Vincent Smith comes out, guns blazing, halfback pass to who?! TAYLOR LEWAN.  That's right, this play we lined up Lewan at TE.

I'm getting too exciting just thinking about all the possibilities.

1 year 37 weeks ago Agreed... but

I think that's true to a certain extent.  People who doesn't appreciate their team will come out of the woodwork when their team starts owning.

But if you look at a team like the Lions, we were still having sold out crowds when we went 0-16.  U of M fans were still packing in over 100,000 during 2008.  Jets fans are of a bit of a different breed.  They lose any sense of reality with every win or loss on their schedule.  A loss against the Ravens, and like ^ said it's 2-14 and all hope is lost.  A win against the pats, and they're right back in the runnings for AFC north champs.  They don't stop takling regardless.

I live with a new yorker.  He is the worst.

1 year 37 weeks ago Adjustments + Scheme

Not just the added experience for our players that will obviously make them better, but it's also this scheme Mattison is using.  I'm loving the blitz packages he's shown.  We have been improving week by week, and I can see it with our alligment and our assignments.  I remember week 1 vs Western, I think it was their first drive, Carvin Johnson was lined up on the wrong side of the field, and Avery was left to defend two receivers, which he did admirabley tackling one of them to save the touchdown.  I haven't seen any alignment issues like that since week one.  I've noticed the team is making adjustments as the game goes on.  If something isn't working, we adjust accordingly and keep trucking.

I wasn't actually saying our defense is 2nd best in the nation, or that we were comparable to Bamas or LSU's, but we are definitely making leaps and bounds in the right direction.  If Campbell can start consistently shredding blocks and hitting QBs we'll be in serious business.

1 year 37 weeks ago 2 Straight years

We've been 5-0 two straight years.  2009 we were 4-0, then lost to State.  We won our 5th game vs Delaware state a little later in the  season.

I really hope Persa is healthy.  I want to see how this defense can handle a quarterback like that, because right now, we are 2nd in scoring defense with 10.2 ppg.  I want to see some great competition for our defenders, and Persa can definitely provide that.

I remember when everyone was predicting, "How much can Mattison really improve the defense?"  Oh... This predictor says we can only move up 40 spots.  Oh... I think we're going to be somewhere in the 60's.  Right now, we're at number 2 behind bama.  I think the difference is with what Roh said in how they trust their defenders, and how they've completely bought into the new system.

1 year 45 weeks ago Thanks but no thanks?

If the staff really said no to him visiting, then my Ace Corbin rumor was true.

Ace Corbin:  Ondre Pipkins loved his BBQ visit so much, he decided to commit on the spot, but Wormley beat him to it.  He didn't want to steal any of Wormley's spotlight, so he decided to wait a few days, before making it official.  But, he gave the coaches a heads up.  The coaches, wanting to only take 1 DT in this class, Schutt the door on Tommy.

1 year 45 weeks ago 4-2-5

Continuing your totally off, but right now running a 4-3 with Cam Gordon at linebacker is almost like running a 4-2 with a 3rd safety playing on, or close to the line.  Also, I believe they're going to run a few 4-2 packages on long 3rds with a Nickel Corner.  Has already  been said, but Thomas Gordon is great for that position, Reeves looks too much like a full time lockdown corner to just come in on 3rd downs IMO.

Still, continuing your off, I was wondering if Mattison might've wanted to eventually put out some 3-4 packages with the way linebackers have been recruited the last two years.  If we still had Jones, that'd be 8 in the past two years..  If they really only want one interior lineman in this class, instead of rotating a lineman out with a lineman in, maybe they'll send in a linebacker for 3rd down or just a change of pace.  Thinking about it, last class, 0 DT.  This class, only 1?  Ravens run a 3-4....

Either way, staying on topic, I was really excited for Reeves before there was the "falling out".  He'd be a great pick-up.  If we wanted to take only 5 OL in this class, I feel the reallocation of the scholarship to Reeves would be awesome.

1 year 45 weeks ago Only 1 DT

Some food for thought.  Godin, Strobel, and Wormley are all 250+ right now as juniors in high school.  They still have 13 months before they suit up in maize and blue, it's quite possible one of them could outgrow the DE position and be moved inside.

If they really only want 1 DT + the way they've recruited linebackers, maybe Mattison was thinking of a switch to a 3-4?  Ojemudia would be a great OLB in a 3-4... plus 4 other studs in the 2012 class.

1 year 48 weeks ago Different offense = Better defense..?

I know our offense:defense time is really only like 32:28 on paper, but I felt our defense was always on the field.

No huddle offense.

This is changing.  We're going to be slowing it down a little next year offensively, which will hopefully give our defense an extra second to breathe.

I mean, I'm a math major and have taken some upper level statistics classes, and I think it's a bit ridiculous they're trying to use statistics to justify how we're going to perform next year.  There are too many variables for our team specifically that are going to change how we do next year defensively.  Everyone has made points on how much difference coaching makes.  That, plus a little bit of depth, is going ot make us great.

Look at the talent on the defensive side of the ball.  If you tell me a competent DC can't mold those players into a respectable defense, I'll call you a liar.  There is a lot of talent there, we just need to use it correctly.
